Hello! I am posting here regarding a project me and my friends are undertaking regarding a fan made voice acted mod for the game Homicipher.

We are looking for Voice talents! Amateur and professional welcome!

The game is a visual novel, with horror and romance mixed in and is inspired by japanese urban legends (think kuchisake onna) , it is made independently by one lovely writer/artist/programmer (Yatsunagi) and she's given us her permission to undertake this project. Finally, the much belated final member of Uuzi Hama'uri's crew!

One of the first youkai that Uuzi encountered, Karin had made a name for herself harassing people on the street at night (as a kuchisake-onna is wont to do). Upon confronting Karin, Uuzi was asked if she looked pretty. Uuzi replied that "outward appearance doesn't matter, as long as [her] mabui remains pure." Karin found the answer very entertaining, and decided to stick around with the nuru who gave her the best answer she'd heard in a long time.

She may act like a bratty delinquent at times, but Karin has the group's best interests at heart and is close friends with Wakaba, acting like the latter's older sister. Like Wakaba, she just wants somewhere to live out her life and isn't tremendously powerful. The stage 2 boss to her stage-1-boss-turned-stage-2-midboss (This, too, is yuri.)

Kagurabachi theory part 2

In my previous post I talked about my thoughts about the allusions to gods in Kagurabachi, and I mentioned that 7 Enchanted swords could be a vague reference to the 7 prosperity gods. And now I want to talk further about the swords.

Part two. The Enchanted Swords and what makes them special.

At first, I thought that the swords could be a further reference to the different prosperity gods, as Enten summons goldfish and Ebisu is the god of fishery.

This could also tie into the title of the story if the swords have something to do with the gods. Kagura dances often are accompanied by props, and fighting is often associated with dancing.

Meaning that possibly every time Chihiro uses Enten to dance/fight, he invites the (power of the) gods in his bodies.

Then, when I thought it through, I think that I found another connection:

All swords, until now, have a potential link to yokai/mythological creatures.

Enten summons goldfish, and there is a Yokai, Kingyo no yurei, which are goldfish possessed by spirits of the deceased, often murder victims.

Cloudgourge gives ice, water, and lightning abilities and sometimes summons attacks in dragon forms. Dragons in Japan are associated with water and the weather, so that tracks.

Tobimune has summoned feathers in a move called 'Crow/Karasu', and Tengu are a Yokai based on crows.

Kumeyuri has not revealed much about it, just some geisha-like spirits, however, there are enough Yokai that are based on normal-looking women. Yuki-onna, kuchisake onna, Ame-onna etc. I will have to see more to determine (if true) which yokai it is precisely.

The last revealed sword is Magatsumi, which has references to multiple yokai. It creates flowers and butterflies through spider (Jorogumo), dragonfly (koshinuke no mushi), and centipedes (omukade) techniques.

However it could also be a reference to a single yokai: the Jubokko, a vampire tree that consumes all your blood and is associated with insects that will take care of the carcass that is left. It could also explain the black liquid, as blood can become near black the longer it coagulates.

(A Jubokko would also be kind of ironic considering these trees are created when a huge amount of people died at their feet. And wouldnt you know, there was a war going on at the very moment Magatsumi was created.)

We have not seen the other swords, so everything is still possible, however, my theory for now is that the essence of yokai has been in one way or another placed/forged into the swords (hence why they are called Yoto, demon swords).

The first swords contained 1 yokai each, however those swords were just not strong enough. So the 6th sword was forged with either 3 yokai in it to make it more strong, or 1 yokai that could be stronger the more it is used in battle/gets blood.

This theory could also be why Magatsumi had to be sealed away so carefully compared to the other swords. It was already so powerful due to the 3 yokai that nobody should wield it in fear of damage/being corrupted by the yokai.

Or because if it continued to be used it would eventually get so strong that anyone wielding it would be overcome by it.

(If this theory is true, Enten could become an interesting plot point later, as Chihiro's father was murdered, so he could be in the sword.)

TLDR; The demon swords can possibly contain demons. Who could have thought?

Modern Monsters 2: The Kelpie

On to part 2!

The water horse (Each-Uisce in Irish Gaeilge, Each-Uisge in Scottish Gaelic) and the kelpie are often used interchangeably, but do have some differences.

While I’ve used the term Kelpie prominently here, that’s mainly because I think more people might recognise or at least remember how to spell that term. The creature in the poem is inspired by the more vicious Each-Uisge.

Both creatures are shapeshifters with an affinity for water, who like to take the shape of horses and so entice humans to trust them and climb up on their backs. This doesn’t tend to end well for the humans.

Skip the more detailed paragraph below if you’re squeamish…

The Each-Uisge in particular was said to allow humans to mount, only for the unlucky people to find that they had immediately begun to meld to the creature’s back. They would be dragged into the nearby river, where the creatures could tear into them at their leisure and throw their entrails towards the shore. In some stories several people (usually children) would try to ride the “horse” together, with the slowest only managing to get a hand on the beast before it ran off, taking his friends and his hand to the deep with it.

So.

How would this change to fit into the modern world?

Honestly… it’s intelligent, but it’s far more animalistic in lots of ways than some of the other monsters I’m looking at. I think the instinct to hunt and eat in its traditional way would never leave, and that while it would want to have plentiful food nearby, and therefore probably move to an urban centre on the river, I don’t think it would want any humans to know it was living among them.

It relies on attracting people to it then springing a trap, a bit like a carnivorous plant - it doesn’t tend to chase them down, although it does need to be able to carry them off underwater quickly once they’re stuck.

The horse disguise is a bit outdated, though, and the creature quickly learned that people would be much more likely to call in the authorities immediately upon finding a straying horse in town these days, rather than risk getting too close to a half-ton block of muscle and hard bits that could be spooked by a plastic bag blowing past.

Luckily, the lore doesn’t limit the Each-Uisge to only horse shapes, and it’s not hard to find a free space in the e-bike parking ranks.

If you’re ever walking past the river at low tide and spot a bike in the water, just be happy that it’s resting comfortably and probably won’t need to eat again for a while.

[To the second edition of the Monster Log, we have Genocider Syo as a version of the Kuchisake Onna - in this case, I image it's her, at night and in back alley, wearing a dark purple trench coat that goes down to her thick hips, white thigh highs, as well as a black mask that can barely contain her incredibly long tongue and shows stitch marks to the side of her face ~ Skinwise, she's grey and is wielding two pairs of scissors]

(a bit too close to what syo is naturally, its always hard to make a character have different clothes who are VERY close to what they have, the ai will always try to make them just have their normal costume, anyway~)

You're Fanon aura post makes sense but at the same time isn't that something that Dimple can canonically do? Iirc we see it in the urban legends where he mentions the intensity of the power from the Kuchisake-Onna and in the divine tree arc where he mentions shigeos power fluctating/coming back. Or am I misinterpreting

i did forget these (and honestly just. dimple in general) but i think that 1) a spirit being able to sense another spirit’s power level is more a survival thing than anything else (need to know if this guy can eat you or not) and 2) him being able to tell whether shigeo’s on “full” or not is also him actively checking that level to see how much he still needs to drain. (also didn’t go as much into this in the post but part of my he for that is that auras as they are sensed by other living psychics depends on some level on how much the other psychic Wants to be seen/how much power they’re actively using. to use reigen’s “psychic powers = knife” metaphor, you can get an idea of how big someone’s knife is/how good with it they may be from their movements or the sheath or smth but your pictures gonna be a LOT better once they start using it) (the dead get to cheat a little though)

A touhou fan game idea where the incident is a steam-powered locomotives is coming out of the Hakurei Border bring in various and various from the outside world (which the only survior is Sumireko). The Playable Characters come in teams, which are: Reimu & Yukari, Marisa & Mamizou, and Sanae & Sumireko.

Stage 1 Boss: A Makami based on Hachikō with the power of gaining strength from patience

Extra Stage Boss: A Tanuki based on the nisekisha/yūrei-kikansha which are fake trains with the power of passing through physical or spiritual matter tends to shapeshift into trains and was the train Stage 3, both Stage 4, and the Final Boss was using them as a train

The plot is the Final Boss once was an ordinary calico cat who gained fame for being a station master and operating officer at a Japanese train station who was turned into God. She found a world between the Outside World and Gensokyo that looked like an older Japanese station called Kisaragi Station. She encounters suffering yokai who are the Stage 3 and both Stage 4 bosses. She found the Extra Stage Boss disguised as a train, so she going from Kisaragi Station brings various suffering Yokai to Gensokyo. But the group ends up picking up people from the outside world since Kisaragi Station and the outside world look so similar.

TAMA DAIMYOUJIN GAME... this would truly be the Ultimate touhou game

YYH fans are confused about what makes a youkai a youkai especially while living with a secret human double identity in the human world because they do not know much lore about youkai in the first place. There are also different connotations due to its translation as "demon" as well as some parts of the manga not getting animated. But here's the thing: a lot of youkais had human origins in Japanese folklore but they are full youkai and aren't half human. That's because youkai are more like spirits and a spirit could come from a human (Yusuke) or an animal (Kurama) past life amongst other things. Example of this is Kuchisake-onna or slit-mouthed woman that was mentioned in the manga when youkais were starting to live with humanity (unfortunately, that wasn't shown in the anime).

Kurama is a demon fox (youko) but was also called a spirit fox (kitsune) which are actual born foxes that turn youkai after living a hundred years. We don't call Kurama a half animal for being born a fox before turning youkai so why should Kurama or Yusuke be half human half demon?

More about Kuchisake-onna on this link if anyone's curious because I don't want to get distracted by overexplaining one of my favorite folk tales:

Are there actual half youkai or youkai hybrids in YYH? Yes, in the manga there were 2 of them. These half youkai pretended to be Yusuke and Kuwabara in chapter 45 of the manga.

You can assume that these are also just youkai assimilating into the human society like Kurama does based on them being described as having "registered name and citizenship in the human world" but in the manga they are actually textually called half youkai and Kurama wasn't referred to with the same wording nor Yusuke after his atavism.

Also, something about Kurama that had puzzled me in a while is that if he was half human half demon and hybrids are supposed to have both youki and reiki like anime only Yusuke, then why was Kurama never shown using reiki?

The anime is confusing because of 3 things: It doesn't follow everything in the manga and makes up its own lore; It makes a distinction between youki and reiki by different red and blue colorings but isn't really consistent about it; the anime doesn't include the ending of the manga which is unfortunate because the anime is more popular but doesn't do the manga justice.

TLDR: Depending on how much an audience understands youkai and which source they like better (anime or manga), they might experience YYH a little differently and that can make the story confusing.

Bonus: Sensui as Shinobu talking about RPG after beating up Team Urameshi is funny and shows more of himself being innocent and non-malicious like Itsuki described him.
