Symbolism And Significance Of The Seven Horses Surya - Sun God in Hinduism

Lord Surya is the sun god in Hinduism. Important scriptures and mythology associated with Hindu religion contains several depiction of Lord Surya riding seven horses. The seven horses are known as Harits. Ratha Saptami is an important festival dedicated to Lord Surya riding seven horses.

In Hindu Mythology, Lord Surya rides across the heavens (sky) in a chariot drawn by seven horses. The horses symbolize the cosmic rays, which radiates warmth and life. As they move across the skies, they remove darkness and usher in light. The seven horses also symbolize the seven colors of rainbow.

The reins of the horses are firmly in the hands of Aruna (Charioteer of Sun God). The reins are the seasons and Aruna makes sure with the reins that rays of the sun sustain all living beings. The seven horses are also said to represent the seven days of the week.

The seven horses are often referred as Harits and sometimes instead of horses it is seven mares. Occasionally, they are also depicted as one horse or mare with seven heads.

“The seven horses of Surya’s chariot are the meters of the Vedas: Gayatri, Vrihati, Ushnih, Jayati, Trshtubh, Anushtubh, and Pankti.”

“Surya’s chariot is yoked with seven horses. They are the Vaidik meters that have assumed the form of horses… They assume the forms as they wish.” - Brahmanda Mahapurana 2.23

Likewise Garuda Mahapurana says “The chariot of Surya is pulled by seven horses. These horses symbolize the seven meters Gayatri, Vrihati, Ushnih, Jayati, Trshtubh, Anushtubh, and Pankti.”

📙अध्याय 11 श्लोक 47 में पवित्र गीता जी को बोलने वाले प्रभु काल ने कहा है कि ‘हे अर्जुन! यह मेरा वास्तविक काल रूप है, जिसे तेरे अतिरिक्त पहले किसी ने नहीं देखा था।‘

सिद्ध हुआ कि कौरवों की सभा में विराट रूप श्री कृष्ण जी ने दिखाया था तथा कुरूक्षेत्र में युद्ध के मैदान में विराट रूप काल ने दिखाया था। नहीं तो यह नहीं कहता कि यह विराट रूप तेरे अतिरिक्त पहले किसी ने नहीं देखा है। क्योंकि श्री कृष्ण जी अपना विराट रूप कौरवों की सभा में पहले ही दिखा चुके थे जो अनेकों ने देखा था।

📙 ‘‘गीता ज्ञान श्री कृष्ण ने नहीं कहा’’:-

जब कुरुक्षेत्र के मैदान में पवित्र गीता जी का ज्ञान सुनाते समय अध्याय 11 श्लोक 32 में पवित्र गीता बोलने वाला प्रभु कह रहा है कि ‘अर्जुन मैं बढ़ा हुआ काल हूँ। अब सर्व लोकों को खाने के लिए प्रकट हुआ हूँ।‘ जरा सोचें कि श्री कृष्ण जी तो पहले से ही श्री अर्जुन जी के साथ थे। यदि पवित्र गीता जी के ज्ञान को श्री कृष्ण जी बोल रहे होते तो यह नहीं कहते कि अब प्रवृत्त हुआ हूँ।

An old image of a monk serving food to Muslims has resurfaced in social media posts that falsely claimed it shows a Hindu priest who was killed by Islamists during the recent unrest in Bangladesh. AFP previously debunked false claims with the same image and identified the monk, while his religious organisation confirmed the photo was taken in India.

"Swami Nitai Das Ji Swami of ISKCON temple in Bangladesh... he organised Iftar for Muslims in the temple for 30 days. The same Muslims burned the temple down and killed the swami," read the Hindi-language claim shared on Facebook on August 7.

Iftar is a meal taken by Muslims to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

The photo shows a monk serving food to a number of men wearing traditional Muslim dress.

There have been multiple reports of violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh since prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted on August 5 following protests led by university students.

More than 450 people were killed during the protests that ultimately led Hasina to flee the country, AFP reported (archived link).

Rights groups and diplomats in Bangladesh have since raised concerns over reports of attacks on minorities. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council said at least 10 Hindu temples have been attacked by "miscreants", AFP reported.

The image of the monk was shared with similar claims elsewhere on Facebook here and on social media platform X here.

But the photo, circulating online since 2016, does not show a Hindu priest killed in Bangladesh.

AFP previously debunked the photo in 2021 when it circulated online with a similar claim, after deadly violence in Bangladesh over the desecration of the Quran during a Hindu religious festival.

Combined reverse image and keyword searches on Google found the photo published in an article by UCA News on July 4, 2016 (archived link).

The headline reads: "Hindu group hosts fast breaking event for Muslims."

The caption with the photo mentions the event was held at an International Society for Krishna Consciousness temple in Mayapur, a neighbourhood in Nadia district of eastern West Bengal state (archived link).

Below is a screenshot comparison of the image in the false post (left) and the picture shared in the 2016 article (right):

Yudhistir Govinda Das, ISKCON's communications director in India, told AFP in November 2021 that the photo was taken in West Bengal.

Das identified the monk pictured as Ivan Antić, also known as Chaitanya Nitai Das, an ISKCON devotee from Croatia.

AFP in 2021 also contacted Antić, who confirmed he was the monk in the photo.

अध्याय 11 श्लोक 21 व 46 में अर्जुन कह रहा है कि भगवन्! आप तो ऋषियों, देवताओं तथा सिद्धों को भी खा रहे हो, जो आप का ही गुणगान पवित्र वेदों के मंत्रों द्वारा उच्चारण कर रहे हैं तथा अपने जीवन की रक्षा के लिए मंगल ��ामना कर रहे हैं। कुछ आपके दाढ़ों में लटक रहे हैं, कुछ आपके मुख में समा रहे हैं। हे सहस्रबाहु अर्थात् हजार भुजा वाले भगवान! आप अपने उसी चतुर्भुज रूप में आईये। मैं आपके विकराल रूप को देखकर धीरज नहीं रख पा रहा हूँ।

#SantRampalJiMaharaj 📙गीता अध्याय 18 श्लोक 43 में गीता ज्ञान दाता ने क्षत्री के स्वभाविक क��्मों का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा है कि ‘‘युद्ध से न भागना’’ आदि-2 क्षत्री के स्वभाविक कर्म हैं। इससे सिद्ध हुआ कि गीता जी का ज्ञान श्री कृष्ण जी ने नहीं बोला। क्योंकि श्री कृष्ण जी स्वयं क्षत्री होते हुए कालयवन के सामने से युद्ध से भाग गए थे। व्यक्ति स्वयं किए कर्म के विपरीत अन्य को राय नहीं देता। न उसकी राय श्रोता को ठीक जचेगी। वह उपहास का पात्र बनेगा। यह गीता ज्ञान ब्रह्म(काल) ने प्रेतवत् श्री कृष्ण जी में प्रवेश करके बोला था। भगवान श्री कृष्ण रूप में स्वयं श्री विष्णु जी ही अवतार धार कर आए थे।
