Referee Selorm Kpormegbe hopes Ghana gets more referee representation at AFCON in future
Referee Selorm Kpormegbe hopes Ghana gets more referee representation at AFCON in future, is hopeful the country will produce more officials in future Africa Cup of Nations. The West African nation is being represented by only one referee despite it pedigree in football.Daniel Laryea is the only referee selected from Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon."I would urge them to remain much focused and continue to exhibit the high standards required to catch the eyes of the selectors to get the call-ups for CAF competitions," he told Times Sports.
Selorm Kpormegbe hopes Ghana gets more referee representation at AFCON in future believes improved performance and hard work will earn Ghana more places at the elite tournament.
"It is not only Ghana that has only one referee in the AFCON tournament. There are other countries with just one referee and those with no referees at all," he said.
"Ghana had no referee at the previous AFCON. We only saw that as a duty to work harder. We did our very best and this year, we have one referee representing the nation at the showpiece.
"I will advise my colleagues to keep up with the good work; it is those good works that will open the doors for such opportunities."

Ghana FA Referees Committee clears referee Selorm Kpormegbe and Charles Bulu
The Referees Committee of the Ghana Football Association has cleared Selorm Kpormegbe and Charles Bulu of any wrongdoing following protest from Berekum Chelsea and Medeama SC.
The two Clubs petitioned the Committee after their Ghana Premier League games against Elmina Sharks and Aduana Stars respectively.
Below is the decision of the Referees Committee Complaint Berekum Chelsea's complaints from the said match centered around two incidents.
The club claimed they had been denied a penalty when the ball struck the arm of an Elmina Sharks defender in the 16th minute.
The club also claimed in another complaint that after awarding a free kick against them, referee Selorm Kpormegbe had not played according to the rules by allowing Elmina Sharks to go ahead with an attack despite showing them the whistle. That attack led to one of Elmina Sharks's goals.
Recommendation After initially studying the video, the committee found it neccersay to meet the center referee and his assistant involved in both incidents to review the incidenta together.
Ref Selorm stood by his decision not to award the penalty in the 15th min because he says the hand of the Sharks defender was in a natural position when the ball struck. He was not convinced that there had been a delibrate attempt to block the effort with his hand.
The committee agreed with Ref Selorm's explanation so the committee cleared him.
In the second incident, at no point from the video review does referee Selorm show the whistle to the defending or attacking team to indicate that the game restarts when he blows.
Instead, he is seen in the footage imploring the defenders of Berekum Chelsea to move back by the mandatory distance before the free kick is taken which they are reluctant to do.
At one point another defender steps forward, completely flouting the referee's orders before Sharks restarts the game.
All five members of the review committee agreed that if referee Selorm had pulled play back from the restart, he would have disadvantaged the attacking team who had not been responsible for neither the foul nor the delaying in restarting the game.
Referee Selorm and his assistant are there cleared of any wrong doing.
Aduana Stars versus Medeama
Medeama complaint against referee Charles Bulu centered on a disallowed goal on 85 when the referee whistled for an infringement against them.
They complain that it was rather a coming together of two Aduana players and not a foul on their part.
Recommendation. After studying the video independently and later with Charles Bulu, the committee was unanimous that the referee had made the right call to disallow the goal as the Aduana goalkeeper had been impeded in the build up to the goal.
Referee Charles Bulu had indeed whistled for an infringement before Medeama put the ball in the net in that sequence of play.
Referee Bulu is therefore cleared.

2019/20 Ghana Premier League: Week 9 Match Preview — Elmina Sharks v Berekum Chelsea
[caption id="attachment_761314" align="alignnone" width="2048"] Elmina Sharks[/caption] Elmina Sharks will be aiming for become only the second team to record a victory against Berekum Chelsea when they welcome the Blues to the Ndoum Stadium in Week 9 of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League on Sunday. Chelsea have been impressive in the ongoing campaign, winning five, drawing one and losing one game in eight round of matches. The Berekum-based side have been even more dangerous on their travels after picking nine out of a possible twelve points. Their only loss came against Bechem United at the Nana Ameyaw Park in Week 7. But a trip to the Ndoum Stadium looks tricky on paper as Sharks are motivated to end their four-match draw streak at home. Elmina Sharks played the Blues in 2018 for a Premier League fixture which ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Over the last ten years, the two teams have played 3 times. Elmina Sharks have won in 1 of the match-ups when they've met. Berekum Chelsea have won 1 of these occasions. The other match ended in a draw. In those matches, there has been an average of 2.0 goals per match. Elmina Sharks score an average of 1.0 and Berekum Chelsea score an average of 1.0 per match. Looking specifically at the match-up on the road, whichever side has been away has won 33% of the matches between these sides. The home side has secured the win 33% of the time. Elmina Sharks have 8 points in the Premier League, giving them 14th position. There is a total of 7 matches played by the home team over the recent 12 months. They have 1 win; 5 draws; and 1 loss. Therefore, Elmina Sharks have won 14%, drawn 71%, and lost 14% of their recent matches. In this period, they have an average of 1.0 goals for, and 1.14 goals against. At home over this time, they have a win rate of 0% (0 wins) from 4 home fixtures. 100% (4) of these matches have been a draw, with the remaining 0% (0) being a loss. On average they have scored 0.75 goals when playing at home in this period. They have conceded 0.75. Their recent performance, in league or cup football, shows that they have scored a total of 11 goals in their last ten matches. In this time they have a win rate of 10%. The total number of times both Elmina Sharks and the opposition have scored is 8 out of the ten; and there has been 2 matches with three goals or more. They have scored at least once in each of their last 4 matches. Berekum Chelsea are sitting top of the summit of the pile with 17 points. Looking over the last year, they have played 7 matches. They have 4 wins; 2 draws; and 1 loss. This gives Berekum Chelsea a recent Win-Draw-Loss rate of: 57%-28%-14%. In these matches, they have averaged 0.86 goals for, and 0.43 goals against. A look at their away record in this time.
