Thought of the day: If I'm being honest, I really don't understand why elves (disregarding the Neverseen in this scenario) don't use their natural skills more. Let me list them: telekinesis, blinking, regulation of body temperature, vision in the darkness, holding their breath for an extended period of time, levitation, appetite suppression, outward channeling, and channeling.
Like, PLEASE. Elves are (obviously) superior, but they choose to forget or ignore using these talents that could get them the upper hand in a lot of situations. I need more powerful elf content.

Can you imagine how freaked out human women would be talking to Emma Foster about her first pregnancy?
Like, “oh yeah my belly button turned pink and puffed out and stayed like that for the entirety of my pregnancy. It returned to normal immediately after I gave birth, though, and it didn’t happen again.”

i doubt the kotlc elves would be religious at all mostly because to them they are the higher power and most elves hold the belief (even if it's inherent) that they're kind of... greater than other species (especially the nobility, this isn't trying to point fingers at anyone, it's just how elves are raised), but it's surprising to me that they aren't spiritual at all? they claim to live harmoniously with nature but that isn't really... demonstrated a lot and i wish kotlc went more in depth on elven culture beyond what we've seen so far
and on that note, what would they say that'd be the equivalent of "oh my god(s)", "what the hell", etc.
also they hold festivals for total lunar eclipses and their society is structured around light so do they view celestial bodies as their higher power(s)?
do they believe in an afterlife, in ghosts?? because we've seen a bit of what their customs are regarding death but so few elves die so there's not much instances to build a culture around that and actually if nobody's died of old age yet then how the fuck did they get here?? how did elves come to be??? because them knowing what dinosaurs are and being able to successfully rehabilitate them and keep them alive implies that they've been around since at least that long
so is it plausible that they've potentially been here longer than everything else? like the elements humans are made of were formed from like... dead stars and material from the big bang but like... are elves literally made of stars? did the first elves walk this planet when it had just begun cooling? did they form with the first signs of life? are elves the physical incarnations of light or something?????

Elves vs humans and dealing with guilt and other conflicts.
This post is mostly based on Tiergans line of dialogue in Exile:
“Good Girl” he said, releasing her. “If any thoughts like that start to rear up, you must shove them away - immediately, do you understand?”
He specifically says to shove them away. Which I think is a philosophy many elves seem to have of ignoring the problem, running away from it, avoiding it. Because confronting pain normally leads to more pain before it gets better, and elves like to believe they live in a perfect world without pain. And since they don’t deal with this grief opting to shove it away instead, to the dark corners of their mind, into a bottle, the guilt slowly grows over time. Eventually breaking them.
This also reflect how Elves deal with conflicts. Elves continue to ignore growing problems and conflicts, so bent on keeping up the illusions they’ve built for themselves about how their world is perfect and peaceful. So when problems arise they pretend they don’t exist, erasing them from their memories. And those problems and conflict can only be shoved away for so long before they grow to big, and if the elves continue to ignore these conflict they will break.
Meanwhile how humans, or more specifically Sophie, deal with their guilt. They confront it. They’ve built up tools across the millennia to deal with their guilt and emotions in a way that doesn’t break them. Are these tools and methods perfect? No. But they true to deal with them.
Taking a more specific look at Sophie she’s someone who constantly confronts her guilt and talks herself through it. She lets herself go through the pain instead of hiding it all away and let’s it out before it breaks her. When she’s talking about her guilt over what happened with Alden she tries to talk about her feelings. Something she was taught constantly in the human world to do, and as something positive. She’s used to talking about her feelings and having someone reassure her or just help her get through whatever’s happening in her life. Even if that person is herself. Elves just don’t seem to be in a strong practice of doing this. They do it for smaller conflict obviously, but bigger problems come to close to shattering their illusions that they refuse to talk about it or mention it.
This again comes into how Sophie deals with her problems. She comforts them, head on. While closer in the middle she seemed to be taking a slightly more elven way of dealing with things. Waiting until the neverseen actively made themselves a threat before she did something(this doing something is more than many elves would’ve done mind you), but as the series went on, especially after Nightfall when she was reunited with her human roots, she’s begun taking in more and more human ways of dealing with problems. Confronting them, starting to deal with them on the offensive rather then the defensive. This clashes violently with the elves ideologies and puts her on the ends with most of her friends who even if they have adopted some of Sophie’s more human ideologies still fall into many classical eleven opinions and worldviews. With the exception of those that have been in the outskirts of elven society. Who have seen how elven world views have failed people before and are far more willing to question classical elven schools if though because if it.(And while this also includes Linh she seems more against Rayni then Sophie lighting the fire and just vaguely sides with the rest of her friends because they’re the only support system she feels she has at the time while her previous one she no longer feels is actually helping her)

Have you ever wondered about the age difference between the adults? Like, is Edaline older than Grady? Or is it the other way around?
We know Alden took a while (aka 100 years) to finally pick Della, and it's seriously weird thinking about the age difference. A hundred years. Doesn't it feel weird? A hundred years is a loooong time. Even for elves. I think. I mean, everything that happend to Sophie and her friends was in a FEW years. Or maybe they're just special.
My point is, for some reason, my mind just immediately assumes that Edaline is older than Grady. Is that weird? Cuz she knows how to read some ancient runes. Or did she just study more? Idk honestly can someone just tell me I'm freaking out for no reason?

Note
elves should stop aging in like their 40s or 50s rather than 20s or 30s like it’s implied. and there should be other signs of aging that show up after a few hundred years, like wrinkles and grey hair, or other signs specific to elves that aren’t pointed ears. like they can remain healthy and i don’t mind the not-dying-of-old-age thing but a group of people can only be so interesting when everyone looks like 25. and they should be allowed to be fat too. and disabled. actually i think i just hate the whole everyone-fitting-a-specific-beauty-standard thing which isn’t an unpopular opinion at all but oh well.
i have another thing to say but it’s not related to this so i’m gonna send another ask for that.

Issue Three: Elves
The immortality of elves has always bothered me. How do they keep the population at a sustainable level? Wouldn't time be meaningless? But, more importantly for KotLC: Why do they look like humans if none of the other species do? I mean ogres, gnomes, and some if the trolls, kind of. But dwarves sure as hell don't. Why do elves look exactly like humans? If you're saying plot convenience, that's probably the answer. Even so, I have a solution: You know how trolls go through stages? What if elves did that, too? The younger ones can look like humans, and the older ones can look different, and the Anchients can look even more different. Problem solved.

I was in a girl in CA doing alright
Then I became an elf overnight
Now I gotta figure out how to do it right
So much to learn and see!
At Havenfield with my new family
And a school that's just for elves like me
A whole confusing world is thrown on me
I'm so excited to be... (Sophie Foster!)
I'm finding out what being an elves all about (Sophie Foster!)
Making my way, making mistakes every day! (Sophie)
If I don't die (Sophie)
I'll show them all that I'm
Sophie Foster!
Sure, a kotlc movie is cool
but what about a musical

"we don't get pointy ears until we're like a thousand years old" actually all elves are born with slightly pointed ears, it doesn't get as pronounced until they're a few decades old but they're still born w/ pointed ears

nobody ever talks about the fact that the elves and other species are right about humans. we have destroyed this planet and shannon is right to talk about it. but all anybody talks about is the "the elves hate humans unfairly!!!!" stuff like yeah. but also no. they have pretty valid reasons. imagine if there was some species ruining the ecosystem and your government was doing absolute jackshit about it, like it would be difficult not to feel superior about it
