“Now and Then ~Ver. for the Pretty Cure 1,000+ Broadcast x Yona Kuromatoki Platform 10th Anniversary~”

SYNOPSIS: On the last recording day of the Pretty Cure Max Heart finale episode, the three main voice actresses Yoko Honna, Yukana and Rie Tanaka are in all emotional sides that the moment has come - their tenure as Pretty Cures will be over. However on the other side of the spectrum, Cures Black and White, and Shiny Luminous are still struggling on their final stand against the resurrected Dark King until six familiar figures appear on a bright realm, which will definitely ensure the future of the Pretty Cure series.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Hallo again, everyone! I’m so back in writing fanfics again and again for the first time in a while, but actually there are slight changes in some lines from the first version, which was commemorating 20 years of the Pretty Cure series last year, yet almost the same. And oh, check out my notes about it for the newbies out there!

2024 marks the tenth anniversary of the Yona Kuromatoki Platform as well as more than 1,000 broadcast weeks of the action magical girl franchise, and so a new, updated version is finally here, this time the Wonderful team plus Satoru-kun and Daifuku will make an appearance in the story. As with the original 20th anniversary version, there’ll be nostalgic feels while reading and I apologize in advance.

It was the last day of recording sessions for the Max Heart finale episode and everyone in the studio were in mixed emotions as the moment had finally come. The three main voice actresses, Yoko Honna, Yukana and Rie Tanaka, as well as the other cast members were doing the same.

The session began and the voice actors had gave their all to deliver their emotions to the characters they played. Sure, there would be mistakes in some parts, but for one last time it was now or never, just like Cures Black and White, and Shiny Luminous fighting for all of Earth and the entire universe to defeat the resurrected Dark King. And then, emotions were overflow in the studio as a certain emotional scene when Luminous started crying in front of Black and White, but also had no regrets to be the Queen of Light again.

"Okie dokie, that's it for now!" The director finished the first block session of the recording and the voice actors already took their one hour lunch break.

At the nearby pantry, Yoko, Yukana and Rie began to recall about their memories throughout the two-year run on the show.

"This brings me back memories," Yukana reacted as she looked at the pictures of the Pretty Cure Live Stages featuring the three Cures' live action kigurumi forms and the various kids throughout Japan, to which put a smile on her face.

"I know, right?" Yoko chuckled while tapping the other veteran seiyuu's shoulder and seeing those pictures. "Honestly, I still can't believe we reach another new milestone for Pretty Cure."

Rie nodded after munching an onigiri before seeing the photos of the promotional activities, "Mm! It's really been a wonderful ride for everyone. But come to think that we're about to reach the end and it makes me so sad."

"We have the same thought as you, Rie-chan," Yoko replied but there was also sadness on her face. "It's sad, but we have to face it."

"Just like Nagisa-chan, Honoka-chan and Hikari-chan really used to be," added Eri Sendai, Shiho Terada's voice actress, and later would go on to play Milk/Kurumi Mimino aka Milky Rose in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! a few years later. She then sat beside Rie with her lunch and munched a takoyaki that she bought outside the studio.

"What do you mean, Sendai-san?" the outgoing lead Cure seiyuu wondered.

"Simple, even if we're apart, our bond will always be connected."

Yukana then commented, "Therefore, we all share the same pot under the same sky! That's the true spirit and magic of the Pretty Cure series!"

"That's right!" Rie nodded and added in a similar manner as Hikari, "Our time on the show may be almost over, but the legacy will still carry on to the future generations."

"And I hope this amazing franchise will go on and on so that everyone can still be enjoyed and amazed by the Pretty Cures' adventures, and to pass this legendary story to their future kids!" Yoko said as she was imitating Nagisa.

"Oh, Yoko-chan! You are so like Nagisa-chan indeed!" Yukana laughed while doing a Honoka impersonation.

"I can't believe this~!!" The three women wackily chuckled on Yoko's iconic line.

Lunch break was over and the voice actors were returning to the studio for the final recording block of the episode. Suddenly, two figures appeared on the podium and were greeted by the sound engineers, producer Takashi Washio, the episode writer and the director with bows and handshakes. Those two women therefore were Orie Kimoto and Atsuko Enomoto, the voice actresses of Saki Hyuuga and Mai Mishou in the upcoming Splash Star season.

The two women then approached to Yoko, Yukana and Rie with a warm reception at the studio.

"Hello everyone! I'm Orie Kimoto, Saki Hyuuga's voice actress! Nice to meet you!"

"I'm Atsuko Enomoto, Mai Mishou's voice actress! Nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet you too!"

Later, Yoko had some advice to Orie on how to fill the former's shoes once the Cure leadership role would be passed on to the latter.

"You see, the Pretty Cure series is turning two years old next year and it looks like we'll take the same page as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai in terms of cast changes. So, I just wanna tell you that you will give your all in playing a Pretty Cure. Just enjoy every single moment and when things get tough, the Cures will always be there to cheer us up."

"Mm!" Orie nodded in confidence, "I didn't have any prior main roles as a voice actor though, but I will do my best in playing Cure Bloom! I'm on a top form~!"

Rie clapped her hands and commented, "That's the spirit, Orie-chan!"

"Thank you, Tanaka-san! Honna-san!"

"No problemo, Kimoto-san! If you have some advice then I and my fellow seiyuus here are just one call away." Yoko said taking the phone pose before turning her face to Atsuko. "Same goes with Enomoto-san."

"Yeah! I'll do my best too as Cure Egret! Ahhh, I'm so excited to meet her~!"

Yukana smiled and replied, "Well, this takes me back to the moment when I got the job as Cure White three years ago, even though we had switched roles on the last minute. Right, Yoko-chan?"

"Haha yeah, Yukana-chan!" The veteran lead seiyuu chuckled. "Who could we not forget this thing off? It's a production stuff!"

"Mm! Everything has a reason after all," Rie smiled. "And we are so blessed to be part of this amazing show like Pretty Cure."

Yoko nodded, "Yeah..." And the beep sound heard.

"Okay everyone, the last recording part is about to start!"

When the director called and gave last suggestions and thoughts to the voice actors for the last recording block, and Orie and Atsuko returned to the green room, Yoko, Yukana and Rie might be in mixed emotions right now. But they knew that they'd be the first to carve the history of the first action magical girl anime series on the planet.

Yoko took a sigh and turned to her two fellow main Cure seiyuus with a smile, "You know, ladies? I'd have one last advice to both Kimoto-san and Enomoto-san before we really bow out."

"What?" Yukana and Rie were all ears.

"Tag, you're it!"

"Ahahaha, that's so funny!"

"Ack, it's not!"

"That'd be the funniest advice we had got to our successors!"

"Huhu no, it's not!"

The beep sound on the technical room interrupted the conversation as the director was instructing the other voice actors to get ready. It was about time to take a one last shot for Max Heart and everything would be changed forever.

Final recording block ready in 20...

As Yoko, Yukana and Rie took deep breaths and put the headsets on their heads, they closed their eyes and a white light appeared. Then, the real world recording studio in Tokyo was shifted to the fictional Koizumi Gakuen City in its apocalyptic state with Black, White and Luminous still struggled to take their final stand against the Dark King.

However when the twintailed light hero, together with the 12 Heartiels and the Heart Charinet, was about to become the resurrected Queen, she and her two teammates were noticing a strange bright realm surrounding the destroyed city. There, six colorful figures stood in front of the three heroes with wonderful and colorful smiles that would usher a brighter future.

Cures Wonderful, Friendy, Nyammy and Lillian. The Wonderful Pretty Cures. Together with their two brave helpers, Satoru and Daifuku Toyama.

Black, White and Luminous were still in mixed emotions within, but they already took that short opportunity to see the future with happiness and assurance of what happened next. Wonderful and Friendy smiled at their two senpais, to which Black and White replied them back. An emotional Luminous on the other hand was giving a head pat by Satoru-kun and some encouragement by Nyammy, Lillian and Daifuku.

“Alright, alright. It’s okay now,” Satoru-kun assured at the reincarnated light royal.

“Really?”

Nyammy nodded, “Yeah! You can count on us.”

“Ahhh, this is so exciting~!” Lillian flexed her confident aura in front of her three teammates and Luminous much to their surprise. “You see, I’m curious about seeing the future!”

“Me too!” The four-eyed light brown brunette boy replied while adjusting his glasses with glee.

Meanwhile, Daifuku in his human form tapped his hand on Luminous’ shoulder.

“What?”

“Well, I’m no fortune teller whatsoever. But I can also sense that there’ll be more moments to share to everyone in the comin’ years.”

“Albeit with a different set, but carrying the same energy and the will to fight for the people and things we care about,” added the actual feline hero while smilingly facing Luminous.

“Whoa, that’s amazing!” Exclaimed the light-themed hero. “I’m looking forward to it!”

"Hmm, what does the future really look like?" White wondered curiously.

“We actually don’t know,” Friendy giggled. “But…”

"As long as the Pretty Cures exist, this world and the otherworldly worlds will always be in safe hands from the darkness," Wonderful added as she flexed her dog pose. “Therefore, it’s really wonderful~!!!”

“Wonderful, eh?” Black widened her eyes and realized the importance of the heroic deeds they left to the next set of Cures.

But time was running out, and Wonderful and the others were about to leave the bright realm.

"No, wait!" Black cried. "Where are you guys going?"

“To our beloved town,” Wonderful emotionally replied and gently put her hands into her chest. “You see, I’m really not a human at all. But my heart and mind is always with humanity.”

“You’re not a human…” the very first Pretty Cure leader began to get curious. “So that means you’re a pure-blooded living creature that’s turning into a human and a Cure?”

“Mm! A dog to be exact!” The first non-human Cure leader then nodded and grinned energetically at her legendary predecessor.

Black shockingly surprised on that reveal while covering her mouth and took her iconic catchphrase with a low voice, "I can't believe this... B-But, can we meet again sometime?"

"Of course! No matter where we come from or what we look like, we're all sharing the same pot under the same sky," Wonderful replied with a dog-like smile.

"Mm! Then, it's a deal!" Black shook her hands at Wonderful’s and the two leaders were giggly laughing, much to their respective teammates' delight.

"I guess you two are very similar," White commented.

Friendy nodded, “I agree, especially with the mannerisms and sporty appearances. Yet, Komugi’s more energetic and hyper though.”

“Iroha~!”

"Oh geez, please stop!" Black's and Wonderful’s cheeks went red on the compliments had given from their partners giggly after the former let go of the latter’s hand.

“But yeah, thank you very much for the compliments...” Black then smiled.

“Hey, Wonderful! Friendy!” Satoru-kun called the dog duo and noticed the realm was almost becoming transparent. “The Niko Diamond’s portal energy is running out!"

"Yeah, we're coming!"

"Wait!" The first generation Pretty Cures were about to give their last line to their successors.

"Thank you, everyone!"

The two teams were taking their bows with respect and all smiles in the midst of eternal darkness outside. They knew that this would not be the last time the two Cure teams saw one another, and would manifest for another meeting and possible bonding again in the future.

As the bright realm and its portal were about to disintergrate from the apocalyptic city, Wonderful and the others smiled at Black, White and Luminous one last time. Now and then, they would always be the heroes of our time and beyond forever. And with all the Cures that came after Black and the others, the future of the Pretty Cure series would be ensured in safe hands.
