The Near Misses Tourney: Round II (1 of 2)

In 400+ submissions many worthy and noble (also some dastardly and evil) men (and orcs and elves and hobbits and the like) were admitted to our fair Tourney.

These are... not them.

No indeed, 20 men (and one... unit?) of those submitted failed to qualify for the tournament, for diverse reasons. They were therefore turned away and tossed on the Near Misses Pile. But the spirit of competition still burns within them, and they have erected a makeshift tilt on the outskirts of the Tourney Grounds.

In the first round, our 21 competitors faced off, in two polls of 11 and 10 respectively. The four highest voted contenders from each side have advanced and will also face off in two polls of 4 and 4.

The two highest voted from each poll will advance, while the rest will be sent home in final disgrace. We wish them the best of luck in their fruitless endeavour!!!

Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas is a 2013 French-German historical drama loosely based on the 16th century Hans Kohlhase. Mads plays Michael Kohlhaas a horse dealer who gets into a feud with a local baron, leading to an ill-fated revolt.

A Royal Affair is a 2012 Danish historical drama and romance set in the 18th century court of King Christian VII of Denmark. Mads plays Dr Johann Struensee, the mentally ill King's ill-fated physician who has an affair with the King's wife.

Bastarden (The Promised Land) is a 2023 Danish-German-Swedish historical drama set in 1755. Mads plays Kahlen, an impoverished Danish officer who obtains permission to build property on barren land but runs into trouble with a local magistrate.

Flammen & Citronen (Flame & Citron) is a 2008 Danish historical drama set after the Nazi invasion of Denmark. Mads plays Jørgen Haagen Schmith, a member of the Danish resistance.

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is a 2009 French historical romantic drama. Based on a 2002 fictional novel, the plot follows the rumoured ill-fated love affair between French fashion designer Coco Chanel and Russian composer and conductor Igor Stravinsky - played by Mads.

Earlier this evening, my husband is scrolling through Amazon Prime Movies and comes across Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas, a movie starring Mads Mikkelsen. He knows I'm a fan and asks if I've seen this movie. I must try and control my response because, duh, obviously, I have seen this movie. Several times. It's a good movie in and of its own right.

But also Mads looks amazingly beautiful in it.

But seriously, if you haven't seen this I would highly recommend it. It really is an amazing film.
