hey everyone who liked knives out listen up

if you havent already, PLEASE watch See How They Run

it is an absolute MASTERPIECE and the storytelling, plot line, characters, plot twists, foreshadowing/imagery and literally EVERYTHING have me obsessed

its an absolutely deLIGHTFUL murder mystery that has a similar humorous tone to knives out and glass onion (they are very different storywise but in terms of vibes are very similar)

anyways saoirse ronan is amazing in it, sam rockwell is amazing, literally the entire cast is amazing idk at this point im rambling but its truly amazing

anyways thank u for coming to my ted talk pls watch it i want to scream about it with someone (its on amazon prime and like other streaming stuff but if im being honest, i 🏴‍☠️-d it

what is it with trigun anime adaptations and having to dehumanise knives in order for him to be evil ,,

in tri98 hes just sorta not given much reason to be evil - yes he was verbally and at points physically abused by one member of the crew but not enough of that is shown for the big fall to feel justifiable . he just sorta went off the rails with very little reason to imo , although i cant really blame the show for this as the Tragic Childhood vol of trimax wasnt out yet so they had quite little material to work from

HOWEVER in tristamp they decided on this weird plot of him physically being ‘less human’ like he doesnt need to eat to survive , and personality wise seems very unconcerned with humans . a lot of the tristamp interpretations of the characters differ significantly from their maximum counterparts but this way of portraying knives as well as how his arrogance and superiority beliefs are portrayed … kinda makes my skin crawl . i just really dont know why they did this - a character doesnt have to be ‘not human’ to be evil , and i felt like it ruined knives’ character quite a lot because trimax knives is so different

trigun maximum shows that knives as a child was extremely nervous about being accepted by humans and even shows him crying from relief and happiness after he meets a human other than rem for the first time and he almost instantly accepts him . knives’ character is so interesting in trimax because he was SO caring as a child and that changed drastically because of the trauma he was put through , you definitely feel more of the impact of the tesla incident in maximum

and although knives IS non human , he takes a very human perspective on things , he feels very human emotions . hatred is an inherently human thing . evil is an inherently human thing . a character doesnt need to have inhuman emotions to hate humanity and this is where the anime adaptations miss the mark on knives’ character because they reinforce the idea that he needs to be MORE alien in order to hate humanity

Don’t worry about answering my asks late! The fact that you answered them, is it all matters to me, i’ll wait months such for one response 😁😅. I lowkey have a attachment to you, I’m always so happy when you post something or send me a response. Also happy 1000 followers!!! You deserve it, I honestly can’t see why you wouldn’t gain such a huge following :). I thought about going in depth with reader’s past, most specifically her experiences at the research facility. Now I thought making a new character and making a introduction to the boys father was needed. Not only to Flesh out reader’s backstory but to make more depth to readers character and goals. Also give a bit of explanation to many people’s question, “why didn’t she leave her children behind?”. So here’s Rodney. I felt like there had to be some outside force to push her to survival beyond a retaliation to her pack’s abandonment. He’s not the typically dead beat father. Being paired with him for breading and insemination. After everything, abandonment, stripes of rights and freedoms and force to breed and birth,all traumatic experiences. She’s still traumatized but with Rodney. Who not only took cared of her, like helping her through her heat, when she was pregnant, very attentive to her when she was giving birth and even after. He became her family. And she became his.His pack got killed,they took him in because unfortunately (his words not mine) he managed to survived, they liked that and took him in.They loved each other but in a more of a family way.he was able to keep her from shutting Heart completely.And together they planned an escaped with the other test subjects.But from the very beginning he knew it won’t be possible for all them to escape alive, so with a heartily exchanged “i know the boys will be in good hands, with a mother as stubborn and loving as you” “live for yourself” “I love you”,he sacrificed himself before they could get to her.Now with this heavy burden and guilt that he sacrificed himself in order for her to live fully but their children too.And wanting to respect his last dying wish, which became her wish as well.This couple (or more years) she’s been pushing.And after being their sole caregiver,she never expected herself to rely on others.Roy really had to conditioned her to (with lots of love and attention). When Roy asks about their father ( she nearly about to last out of being able to satisfy her urges and sedate her heat), he found her docile and out of mind attitude to be cute and rewarding.Learning things about her he knows he wouldn’t normally get out of her. Was just curious (figured Rodney to be a deadbeat), but instead “Rodney was a good man, I loved him” and then she rolls over and pasts out. But Roy is like wtf. “That’s not what I wanted to hear”.And starts skating her to explain, but she’s out. So he starts interrogating the boys, but of course his luck they don’t have any detailed memories beyond that seem more fever dreams than memories.But they do tell him what they mother tells them . Like for starters it’s a “big no no” to ask reader about. About the rare times she mentions him,she says stuff like “you know? You have your father’s eyes. Never seen any eyes that can hold that much kindness” after receiving a gift,maybe she’s receiving a foot rub and she goes “do you have any idea how much I had to carry when I was pregnant? I glad your father was there, he did always give the best foot rubs”, “oh this? Nooo I learned this from your father and now you’re learning it me”. Now Roy is basically panicking because he didn’t think a cold and ruthless (not really but if you’re not her kid basically yeah) woman could hold any love or have a soft spot. This man that he can’t find himself to take another breathe of air,can beat him from the grave.Won the heart of the woman that he’s still trying to win over.He’s having every yandere’s worse nightmare. How can he complete against a dead man?He has questions he wants answered, but after that fuck fest she been out for a couple of days……. There’s more but yeah:)what did you think?

And I agree; giving the reader a prominent reason as to why shes so caged off and her demeanor makes her a lot more relatable and depthy ~~ rodney seems like a perfect man: caring, doting, in tune with her needs. It makes sense as to why shed become stuck in her ways and incredibly independent after his sacrifice :(. I like how the reader kind of releases information about him bit by bit though;; it really stays in line with her personality, rarely mentioning him because of her hurt surrounding him and how she loved him.

I LOVE that roy feels this, almost invisible competition with him though. I mean you're right, how DO you compete with a dead man? Will he always be compared to rodney in the readers mind, or does he not even cut close to this seemingly amazing man? I could see him either getting more upset, or trying to step up his game after learning about rodney. People always tend to remember the better parts of their loved ones once they've passed, too, so all he can really compete with are the best memories she had with rodney. So while he may have won over the boys, the reader has shown to be much more difficult than he thought. Even with progress, there are so many more layers to peel back.

I think having her be in heat and completely wiped out is a good time to bring up rodney, since it shows that it's a moment of weakness for her and that she used to be supported by rodney during that time. I'd like to think that maybe this is the first time shes been supported by someone else while in heat since rodney👀. I wonder, I dont know how roy is going to be consoled or how his "rivalry" with rodney is going to end, unless the reader says something to him.

But I just really like this angsty dynamic between them!!

I love how there was no build up for the audience to feel any sadness at Mona Lisa’s destruction. It is just a piece of paper and the ultimate symbol of Miles’s unfathomable greed, it means literally nothing compared to the real human lives that were destroyed
