hi! 👋☺️
I got a few headcannon requests for the npcs
.how would they react to slime?
.how would they react to a ballpit?
.how would they react to sinking in mud?
.can they roller skate?
.what is their reaction to being ticked?
WOAH GUYS I POSTED TWO HCS BACK TO BACK AND NOW I HAVE REQUESTS FROM NON FRIENDS???
Anyway here you go glookie shmookie and I'm gonna assume you meant tickled on the last one
Barry
He'd be the reason they put the do not eat warning on the store bought slime
Would jump in and throw balls at other people
Would shrug and roll in the mud like a pig
yeah but not very well he needs one of those stroller things
Would giggle like a toddler but kind of to the point where it just starts to get weird after maybe 10 seconds
Jean
Would enjoy it a lot. Smile on his face the entire time he messes with it
Would be a parent watching his child play in the ball pit, so happy
Would just get out of the mud like a normal person and go on with his day
Yeah, he'd help teach people how to skate (I ❤️ FATHERLY JEAN)
Santa Claus laugh 🎅🎅🎅
Jacob
*poke poke* *sniff* and then walk away
He'd be the kid that sits in the corner by himself slowly covering his body with the balls until he's completely submerged and out of view. Then someone would trip over him and he'd just stare into their soul as they tried to get up
Would stand completely still and let himself sink down into it to the point where someone else would have to pull him out of the mud
No??? Yes??? He'd put the skates on but just stand near the edge watching people
Unnamed Prussian Officer/Karl/Klaus
Would refuse to touch it in the first place
He's the kid Barry is throwing balls at. Would get out after 5 minutes and scowl with his arms crossed exploding Barry in his mind
Complain about the mud on his shoes but get out himself
He's too edgy and serious to have joy in his life so no (would fall on his ass immediately)
Would say ow (he's not ticklish in the slightest)
WOW GUYS I NEVER THOUGHT I'D GET THIS MUCH TRACTION THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️
Also if you want stuff from me I write headcanons fairly fast but if you're looking for art it's going to be an uncertain amount of time bc school is hard and my brain no want to draw sometimes BUT STILL REQUEST IT BC I NEED MOTIVATION 😢😢😢🙏🙏🙏🇺🇲

It’s almost Christmas time so I figure it would be the right time to talk about one of my favorite animated Christmas movies.
It’s the story of one postal worker named Jesper and how he participated in (or practically invented) the origins of the Santa Claus myth. Taking place sometime before the 20th century, Jesper was a young man who would rather coast through life living off his family’s wealth rather then partake in the family business. His father the Post Master General decided enough was enough and gave his son an ultimatum. Fulfill a large quota in a certain amount of time or be permanently cut-off financially. A task which proved challenging for Jesper as the mail route he was assigned to had a long history of neighbors battling on a daily basis which meant no one was interested in reaching out to one another even by mail. Just when things are looking hopeless for the guy, Jesper comes across a stray child’s drawing and a widower woodsman. The woodsman who is named Klaus saw the sadness in the child’s drawing and tasks Jesper with giving said child a toy he had made back from when he and his late wife were planning for children they were never able to have. Realizing he could work this to his advantage, Jesper convinced Klaus to keep giving away his old toys to the children so he could fulfill his quota and go back to his wealthy lifestyle. Overtime they both indirectly transform a desolate town into a warm community. Jesper started out as wanting to get back to a life of luxury but that begs a question. If he found the right people, does he want anything more?
There have been a lot of Christmas movies and specials over the years. Animated ones, live action ones, and romantic ones where the lead learns the true meaning of Christmas from small towns where most times their love interests turn out to be royalty. But this particular recent creation stood out to me. It’s not very commercial, the color schemes are more subtle and it’s not particularly overt with religious tones that usually come with the holiday. It wasn’t so much as about Saving Christmas as it is with Saving a community with Christmas.
It’s particularly a down-to-earth kind of Christmas movie where it’s not very clear about the magic occurrences that goes on in particular scenes. It also gives credit to the postal service. Portraying it as the serious function to society as it’s meant to be. It also serves a bit of a humorous tongue-in-cheek wink to the instance of Santa Claus taking credit for the deliveries made by the put-upon postal worker. We also get representation for the Sammi people, which rarely happens even in live action works. Not to mention how they serve the plot and the contribution to the reindeer element of Christmas.
Overall this movie deserves love and praise for its themes of community and good deeds sparking a chain reaction of positive change. This deserves to be in the top ten list for Christmas movies to watch annually.

Happy 5th anniversary, Klaus! 🎉☃️⛄❄️🌲🍪🎅🛷🔔📬📭📮📪
On this day, November 8th, 2019, Netflix premiered the enchanting animated film Klaus for the very first time. This remarkable film stood out as it beautifully blended 2D and 3D animation techniques, creating a unique visual experience that captivated audiences. From the moment I watched it, I knew Klaus was destined to become one of my all-time favorites, especially during the holiday season.
And that also included the music, especially the song Invisible by Zara Lesson 😭
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at SPA studios involved into the making of this incredible movie, including the talented director, Sergio Pablos, who brought the story to life. Their hard work and creativity truly shine through in every scene. Klaus not only evokes feelings of warmth and nostalgia but also offers a fresh perspective on the origins of Santa Claus that resonates deeply. I can't express how much joy it brings me to watch it every year, and I'm grateful to have such a fantastic film to enjoy during the holidays! 😍😍😍😍😍🐪🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🎅🎅🏻🤶🤶🤶🤶🤶🤶🤶🤶🤶 😍😍😍😍😍🐪🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
I gave it a 10 out of 10 and I highly recommend this film

Could someone please tell me...
...why I'm still tired after the sixth espresso doppio today?
...how far equality can be when Disney features far more princesses than princes?
...where do all these idiots who vote for far-right parties suddenly come from?
...who invented the stupid saying "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing"?
...why my work-life balance doesn't feel balanced at all?
...where is Donald Duck's complaint that Donald Trump should be stripped of his stage name?
...why humanity is once again investing more in going to the moon than curing cancer or ending hunger in this world?
...why so many people find it funny to call me (my name is Klaus - thank you, dear parents!) "Santa Claus" at this time of year?
...who invented the term "guilty pleasure"?
...who is actually to blame for all this shit?

I was absolutely sure that I’d written a Movie Munchies review for this movie, and apparently I didn’t? I can’t find any record of it existing. I figured I’d go ahead and watch it again this Christmas season because why not?
Klaus is an animated film meant to tell an origin story for Santa Claus. We open with our protagonist, Jesper, the son of the Postmaster General who would rather spend his life in leisure wasting his family’s money. His father’s tired of that nonsense, so he sends him to the remote island of Smeerensburg as a postman and tells him that unless he sets up a successful post office (delivering six thousand letters), he will be cut off from the family fortune.
Jesper is not having a great time in Smeerensburg, which is an unfriendly backwater home to two feuding families that have hated each other since the dawn of time: the Krums and the Ellingboes. That is, until he runs into Klaus, a reclusive woodsman with a massive stash of homemade toys. When Klaus is inspired to deliver one of those toys to a child in town, children get the idea that if they write letters to Klaus, they can get toys too–and Jesper, wanting to capitalize on this, decides to help this along so he can go home.
Of course, no one counted on the side effects of this: not only does Klaus become beloved by the local children, but also the town starts cleaning itself up when the children are told that only good children will get toys. And Jesper starts realizing that maybe Smeerensburg isn’t so bad after all.
Alright, so right off the bat: what makes this movie really shine is the animation. The purpose, as described by the makers, was to make a traditionally-animated film that “picks up where traditional animation left off.” See, in the US at least (director Sergio Pablos recognizes that other countries have rich traditions of animation that are still going strong), most of the major studios switched to computer, 3D animation, and when they go back to traditional animation it’s for nostalgia or callbacks to classics. This movie is not that–it’s meant to be where traditional animation would have developed if it had been allowed to continue as the dominant art form. The result is a movie that looks really, really good–to the point that you might be surprised to find out that it’s traditionally animated.
The movie’s story does not strike me as being particularly original. I suppose that’s a result of me watching a butt-ton of Christmas specials back in the day, in which there are tons of origin stories floating around for Santa Claus. Still, the movie is good–it’s a solid telling of how Santa Claus came to be, and it weirdly doesn’t have many supernatural elements at all.
I am fond of this take on Santa Claus. It is amazing that the first time we see him in the movie, Jesper is terrified of him, because he’s a massive guy living by himself in the woods chopping wood with a giant ax. OF COURSE that’s scary if you have no context to him. Klaus is also, as Jesper points out, not at all talkative at first.
With so many shows and movies we’ve seen jolly, happy Santa. In stories like Rise of the Guardians we see badass warrior Santa. And here, we meet… gruff loner with a heart of gold Santa. I don’t know, I just find it amusing.
He is also, to me at least, just a fascinating take on Santa. He’s a man who takes joy in bringing gifts to children because he doesn’t have his own children–even though he desperately wanted them (that’s why he made so many toys to begin with). There are a few Santa Claus origin movies where he loves children, but the element of “Because he and his late wife couldn’t have any” seems fresh and interesting, and tragic in a way that I don’t get a lot.
There are a couple of things that I don’t think worked for the film. First: the romance between Jesper and Alva. It’s… not really A Thing. Their interactions never struck me as being particularly romantic. Sure, they get closer as the story goes on, but I can’t say that any of it is really strong enough to make it feel much like a romance by anything other than ‘He’s the lead man, she’s the lead woman.’ Maybe I’m just missing something, but it felt a bit forced compared to other elements.
There’s also the film’s moral that it tries to hammer in: that “one selfless deed always inspires another.” Except that’s not what happens–the children aren’t inspired to do good because they’re selfless, it’s because they want presents. Which leads to them becoming more selfless. Likewise, Jesper’s not trying to be a good person, he’s trying to get back home and his family fortune. It’s weird, because the actual message you’d get from this, that acting good regardless of motive will lead to being actually good and bringing out that side in others.
Still, I think it’s a solid and entertaining animated film. It’s funny, it’s fun, it’s cool to look at, and it’s an original Santa Claus origin story that sticks out from many others. If you want to try a new Christmas special, I think this one’s worth a try.

Oh my god!! The art!! Okay so here’s some more, I think:
Demon-Os gets an intern either in season two or right at the start of season one (though I can imagine he’s added to ‘spice things up’ or something like how some sitcoms or shows do with adding new characters), which would be Snake. He usually keeps to himself and is really quiet, which makes it kind of easy for him to end up hanging around the triplets a lot.
I think there could be a scene a bit like with Kevin and the baggers from Mohican from F is for Family where they are in like the triplets’ secret space that they chose to show him and that’s where they are for the rest of the episode, and Sebastian could be cursing them because where the fuck are they?!
Eventually in the same scene Snake shows them pictures of his snakes and one of them (the gruff one — Canterbury… he’ll always be Timber in our hearts though) says “Bit creepy, innit?” — (Timber, the soft one) “I think they’re cute.” — (Thompson, the middle one) “I think they’re pretty decent.” And I think Snake likes them a bit more because he realises that they remind him of his snakes a bit.
The main child actors for the Funtom company / Demon-Os are O!Ciel and R!Ciel (and Lizzie), and their maternal cousins are Jim and Luka Macken (Angelina adopted them).
Mey-Rin, Bard, and Finny are also actors for the commercials, but only recurring ones.
Lau and Ran-Mao are executives, but also keep trying to push their all-new “Seaweed Crunchies” into the limelight.
It’s actually R!Ciel who doesn’t like Sebastian straight away, as he’s the main diva, main actor too, and O!Ciel is just his stunt double most of the time (like when the lights give him fatigue or whatever).
Eventually somewhere down the line like the middle-end of season one or somewhere around season two, R!Ciel gets badly injured (but comedically, if this is like a Dramedy) which forces him to step away from acting and, initially, spend all his scarce scenes during the rest of the season’s episodes in bed, typically venting to Tanaka or telling O!Ciel, a bit vehemently (but mostly out of passion to preserve his image) to be “The best Ciel he can be”, and as such O!Ciel takes on the stage name “Ciel” and no one really checked the credits for stunt doubles anyway so who cares where the other one went?
By the way, Diedrich is their manager/agent (moreso seen with the Mackens, though) and before R!Ciel’s injury the twins sometimes offhandedly mention “their daddy and agent [sometimes] wrestling” and, once, “their daddy kissing Santa Claus”.
In the latter instance Claude turns to Sebastian and says, “Are you sure that wasn’t you, Michaelis?” either to suggest that Sebastian has also done this before (kiss a ‘Santa’) or that Sebastian and Vincent have also been together — it’s up to viewer interpretation. Alternatively it would be a call back to a season or just a few episodes prior, or calling to a flashback, where something comedic happens with Sebastian kissing a Santa.
It’s also suggested that throughout the series, Sebastian and Claude have a secret (and genuinely secret in the sense of what they do and when they do it, but from a tension standpoint it’s not-so-subtle) in- and out-of-workplace relationship. Though it’s never shown on screen.
Sebastian also has the love life and libido of Klaus Hargreeves. Anything and everything is at risk.
As for the Mackens, their stage names are “Alois Trancy” and “Cort Trancy”, both German names (starting with 9 letters before their first initial) that Diedrich had actually picked out. Additionally, they keep pitching this idea of “Trancy Bran” behind the scenes and off set that only Ronald will pay them any mind over.
Alois and R!Ciel also get along like a house on fire and it’s scary. (He brings out the Alois in Alois a bit but when with Luka, he is still just Jim.)
They’re at first used for extras in the Demon-Os commercials (though Alois moreso than Luka Cort because of the whole ‘blond hair blue eyes’ thing).
They don’t get cast in Grim Loops commercials until this one episode of hijinks* where Grelle (who is suggested to dating Red at the time, which this is around season four or five where gay stuff was starting to gradually be green lit, and because F/F is easier to get past censors) had volunteered to babysit them (to appease Ann, this is made abundantly clear), and ‘realising’ that the they’re also child actors (Grelle told him), Will decides to book a day on set to make couple of commercials. This is also where ‘Trancy Bran’ is first mentioned.
* This episode would be a parallel to an episode just a few seasons before where the Demon-Os crew had to babysit the twins. Though, additionally, I can see an episode where the Mackens visit the Demon-Os (Ann is taking forever to pick them up, and it cuts to a scene where she’s out with Grelle or someone occasionally where she’s like “Oh I wouldn’t worry about it, they’re in safe enough hands for now.”), and Alois imprints in Claude but Hannah, who wants to prove herself to kids, is trying super hard to get him and Luka to like her too. Alois is far harder to win around than Luka. This also highlights the competitive and ‘frenemy’ nature of Claude and Hannah’s relationship, as Claude only finds interest in hanging around the kids to anger Hannah. Maybe there’s also a scene where they take Luka out to a toy shop or something while Alois is with the twins, and there’s a reference to that one episode in Friends where Claude and Hannah get off the bus bickering but then realise that Luka is still there sleeping and chase after it. Neither of them are actually that good with kids, they realise.
Eventually, in the same episode, I can see the triplets ending up with Luka (they at first stare down at him blankly) and either it substitutes the bus scene where Luka instead goes missing during one of Claude and Hannah’s arguments (they were tasked with looking after him for Alois) and they have to find him before Alois comes back (Hannah is particularly frightened because she wants Alois to like her — there’s a moment towards the end of this B-plot where Claude decides to finally comfort her and tell her that they will find him). After coming clean to Alois when he returns, they then hear him giggling and find the triplets’ secret spot* wherein they’re with him playing and doing silly cute things (like eating cereal from the box). (I think I like this one more.)
* Now that everyone from Kuro II knows (making me think that maybe Snake comes a season or so later), either Luka or Alois call it “the Trancy Manor” (it’s a storage unit-thing made up of a cereal box fort with pillows. Claude is always huffing because he can’t actually fit that well.) (Maybe there’s a few episodes / B-plots in “the Manor” and the boys all come to treat Hannah like Dee is in It’s Always Sunny.)
Concerning dynamics, Alois also asks, offhandedly, for Claude to marry their mother (Ann). Luka asks if Claude and Hannah are married (feeding the fraction of the Cereal Heads (the viewers of the show) that ship their frenemy dynamic).
The fact that Alois gets most of the spotlight as the main Grim Loops actor later down the line also brings more of the Alois out in him.
O!Ciel gradually gets more and more like the O!Ciel we know in canon because he takes the “be the best Ciel you can be” to heart, like a mantra.
‘Again’ as a reference to Friends, with Ross and that cookie scout girl, something happens accidentally (though, comically) between Sebastian and O!Ciel that causes O!Ciel to lose or injure his eye. Sebastian feels guilty even when he and O!Ciel argue over O!Ciel giving him a hard time.
In Grim Loops, the first season is filled with their failed scripts because who trusted the dyslexic one (Ronald) on the typewriter?!
Undertaker is also there (and flirts with Grelle a bit, sometimes), though like The Office’s Creed, most of the time. But he’ll sometimes, without fail, have these moments of seriousness where he explains why Holy Charms or Demon-Os will do what they do (sometimes with a “Classic” or “Oldest trick in the book” or even “Haven’t seen that one used in a while”), and why they’d do it, because he’s been around for ages so he’s seen all the tricks in the book.
Towards the end of R!Ciel’s arc in bed, he’s started to see his brother rise to fame with now one being able to tell the difference (he even wins an award in R!Ciel’s name — his father even gives him the family ring for a job well done). Once he is no longer bed-ridden, the twins’ (at first) one-sided bitter rivalry is first made apparent. R!Ciel also walks with a cane, now, too.
A branch of Grim Loops shut down leading to new workers, Eric Slingby and Alan Humphries to be working at the main dispatch, but a season later they’re gone.
Ash and Angela are also and brother and sister, but in the sense that Stranz and Fairchild are brother and sister in Blades of Glory. If you know you unfortunately know. (And in the sense of how the two are petty villains, also.)
There’s also this recurring theme of Demon-Os and later Holy Charms trying to invade the health inspector aka Abberline. (Whom Hannah is also dating. It’s all very convoluted.)
Also, in the penultimate season of the show the two hire the Double Charles, and the two duos do not get along that great in the sense of aggressively staring at one another in silence (smug silence, in Grey’s case).
Eventually, a fair bit after the twins’ rivalry is made mutual, it’s revealed that Undertaker has been getting Demon-Os personnel from R!Ciel and then feeds the information from both companies to Holy Charms, exclusively because he wants to watch all the drama (and his pension would be very good if everything went to hell and he decided to retire to avoid all the wreckage).
Towards the end of season seven or eight, the penultimate season, Holy Charms are finally shut down as the Double Charles were undercover cops. (There’d been and arc of Ash and Angela being suspicious of them but the big reveal doesn’t come until the very end of the season.)
Towards the end of the show, say like the third-to-last season, I thought that Claude would have a big build up to coming out as gay now that the show is officially more woke, but I think such a reveal would be better suited towards William for what I’ve decided for the last two seasons.
Now that William is out as gay, it’s made more apparent immediately in the next season how his rivalry with Sebastian is far more homoerotic than initially thought (also validating the Sebiam Cereal Heads) and slowly how Sebastian could also reciprocate. At the end of the penultimate season they end up getting together.
Now that the two are together, this (smaller than usual) season consists of them trying to merge the two companies into “Demon Loops” where they’d sell both brands as well as a combined brand and many reduced sugar options that kids all across the world will absolutely love, as well as plan for their wedding. After many bumps and struggles they manage to merge just an episode or two before the show’s finale: their wedding, and the speeches are all very cereal related and the vows aren’t without several cereal analogies apiece.
Modern Drama AU where the grim reapers are the CEOs of a cereal company whose mascot is a reaper. And the demons’ (and Ash/Angela I guess) are CEOs of another cereal company whose mascot is a demon. They unfortunately booked conferences for the same resort. They’re enemies. Oh no :)

Review: ‘Klaus: The Life & Times Of Santa Claus’ Turns The North Pole Epic
There’s no denying that Santa Claus is a mythic figure. Many cultures have their version of Santa- Sinterklauss, Father Christmas, even Odin himself- so turning him into a fantasy hero is a natural step. Klaus: The Life & Times Of Santa Claus continues BOOM! Studios’ take of that unexpected concept. Five years ago, the world was introduced to the god-like warrior Klaus. Now Boom’s new collection…

Okay so can we please have a "wrapping presents fic" with Percy and Grover? Like you always do it with them cause they have a terrible memory so they won't tell the rest of your friends what you get them for christmas but also i think it would be very fun to see Percy struggle with wrapping paper— and while you do it you're watching christmas-themed movies and eating tasty holiday snacks
Christmas 2021 Masterlist
We have apparently no content on Grover on this blog which is truly a shame.
Warnings: none!

Dec. 13th - Wrapped up (Grover and Percy x platonic!reader)
“Alright team, we have a big task ahead!” you announced as Grover and Percy sat on your bed.
“I thought we were watching movies?” Grover questioned you as you grinned widely.
“We are, and!” you gestured to the pile of presents on the floor, “we are wrapping my presents for my friends!”
“Aren’t we your friends?” Percy asked as he scanned over the pile of unwrapped presents.
“You are, but I have pre-wrapped your presents,” you smiled knowingly, “and if I hadn’t you both would have forgotten by the end of the night anyways.”
“Hey!” Percy protested but Grover shook his head.
“They’re right, man.” he agreed, “But you better get the snacks out because otherwise I will start eating the wrapping paper.”
After a while you noticed Percy struggling with his presents. You stared at him as he clumsily cut off a piece of wrapping paper, only to tear it halfway through. He silently cursed as he tried again, succeeding this time. He then tried to start wrapping the present, only to have it not properly fit around the box. Grover noticed that you had stopped wrapping your presents and followed your gaze to his best friend, whom he noticed had only wrapped two presents before that both, well, sucked.
As the both of you watched Percy struggling you noticed a small shine in his eyes.
“Dude, Percy,” Grover started, “Are you crying?”
Percy looked up in surprise, embarrassed that the two of you had been staring at him intently for the past five minutes.
“What? No,” Percy gestured around, ruining whatever process he had made on his package, “I am just not good at multitasking,” You slowly nodded.
“Do you want me to show you how to wrap a present?” you offered and Percy nodded.
“Please.” he said as he shoved the present he was working on to you.
Somewhere in the middle of your second movie, you had run out of presents to wrap, which resulted in Grover, Percy and you just making fun of the shitty Hallmark Christmas movie you had found under the couch of the Big House, while eating snacks.
“I think we should make our own movie.” you said and Percy snorted as Grover bleated, “I mean, we have the template right here of, what’s it-” you repressed a laugh, “Okay, so, you move to a new place - Camp Half-Blood - where you’re trying to start a new life and there you meet a kid named Klaus, child of Hermes.” Grover shook his head while he took another bite of his can.
“Sure,” Percy interrupted, “The main character is a child of Hephaestus and they first don’t like each other until,” Percy grinned, “Bare with me, Klaus needs the main character to fix his chariot because he is actually Santa Claus!”
“Now you're getting it!” you exclaimed and the three of you burst out in laughter.
“As long as you don’t change the reindeer to be saters I’ll help.” Grover bleated and you grinned.
“We’ll call it Camp Christmas, or something, it has to be stupid.” you suggested as you put another gingerbread man in your mouth. Grover and Percy both agreed as you continued watching the movie with your friends.

Why Klaus IS Christmas Kino
Klaus isn’t flawless, let’s get this out the way. My love for this film won’t deny that it bears a couple nits that can distract the experience. Jesper and Alva’s relationship felt like an eye-rolling inevitability, notable cliches here & there, a notable song felt both fitting and out of place, and while enjoyable, I’m not as big a fan of the climax as I thought. But in spite of it all, I love this film and it is one of the best modern animated Christmas films, period? Follow me here. I could go on about its wonderful animation cuz yeah, it’s unlike any other film. But a philosophy of mine is that the best animation enhances the writing and I can say Klaus is that surprisingly well written and has become an all time Christmas fave
*deep breath in* So let’s do this...
I mention that Klaus has its cliches, but you gotta know that it’s smarter than expected. Believe me when I say if the writers didn’t care, this could’ve actually been so much worse. Jesper could’ve been more manipulative towards everyone for his goals, Klaus would’ve given up entirely after knowing the truth about Jesper, we could’ve had an argument between Jesper and his dad about upholding business, the townsfolk could’ve reverted back to their old ways, plenty writing moments where this could’ve been Emoji Movie levels of insulting to your intellect. BUT, they don’t. The film never really turns back on itself, it keeps moving where, as the notable quote goes, an act of good will sparks another as it starts with Jesper’s father.
Even if nepotism was responsible for Jesper getting the job in the first place, he clearly sees his son be more spoiled than he’s worth so is like, “Ma boi, I will send you to the ends of the earth or leave you to the streets if you don’t do something with yourself.” He never cared about his son representing the postal company, or ruining his top class image, he was only tired of Jesper taking advantage of his fortune while not having any ambition of his own. Can’t help but say Jesper’s dad is a very respectable character because the sole reason the whole plot happened in the first place was because he just wanted his son to do better. It’s that act of genuine consideration that pushes Jesper to his wake up call as he reaches Smeerensburg.
People have compared this movie to Emperor’s New Groove through Jesper’s character and I say yes, but this film takes that next step and put Jesper in the pit of pits way early. Reminds me more of Ratatouille’s beginning where Remy’s lowest point is around the same time as Jesper’s. The harsh atmosphere of the island is treated very blunt in how this is our mailman’s nightmare come true. With his situation, our guy is truly at his lowest. Gives up now, he’ll be cut off his inheritance and probably will have worse. Everyone hates him and each other, his post office itself is in shambles, symbolic of how communication is practically thin outside conflict, and the teacher turned fish seller Alva is that path Jesper could notably be if he didn’t try. Everything is literally grey for this guy, but like Ratatouille, when you’re at your lowest there’s no where else to go but up. That’s where Klaus comes in...
This is genuinely the most clever interpretation of Santa I know, hands down. A well established woodsman, a crafter both of living, for him and the birds that reside in his woods, and recreation with the toys he made himself not just for kids, but specifically the kids he and his wife wanted but couldn’t have. Klaus feels like a real person, not just another take on the mythical man. You’re with him and Jesper as he, after familiar winds provide him a letter, a small spark to do something good, soon opens up and gets reminded of what’s kept him going all these years. It is no wonder he sees his wife in Jesper, it’s thanks to him that he could refurbish his dashed dream into a new one. He didn’t just want to do it for the children of the island, but for himself. That is another thing about this film: communication. I mention before how it’s practically thin at first due to a long going feud that isn’t even aware of why it’s still going. The joy in hate is only for hatred’s sake, and they make it very clear how miserable it all feels. That is where Jesper comes in. They don’t take shortcuts with how he gets the ball rolling, both accidentally and purposefully, he boots up to get things done, pushes himself to go to Klaus to make things happen. This is all in part by the youth, what really ties the plot together...
As I mentioned before (again), life in Smeerensburg is noticeably miserable but thanks to Klaus, by extension Jesper, the kids are enticed to do what it takes to get some genuine joy in their lives through the toys they’re able to get. They’ll make them letters, and if they can’t write, they’ll go to Alva for teachings, and if they act naughty, they’ll try to do good which in turn pushes the adults to do good for the sake of their kids. It really would’ve been one thing to sure enough make the kids spoiled because of the toy giving, focusing more on the extrinsic value of Klaus’s kindness but no. The children are very grateful for these gifts enough to feel compelled to do good, and it makes them feel good as much as it soon makes the adults more convinced to stop fighting. It helps that this all takes place in older times cuz I believe this would’ve been far different, possibly worse, if this took place in modern times. That or just kinda rip off Arthur Christmas, it’s my guess. As such, it gradually becomes an amazing Christmas film because it isn’t just the presents, the Santa Claus myth, the festive style of it all that makes this holiday special to me. It’s the warmth... of togetherness.
My favorite detail about Klaus is how it transitions from cold to warm with its atmosphere. We start out with the emptiest, harshest environment, enough fog to choke your eyes, and then we get to this moment with a brighter, clearer sight of the more united town as the Christmas spirit builds in the film, even when it isn’t even that day yet in-universe, so too does the warmhearted feeling that can come from celebrating it appear more and more. This film fleshes out more of what the Grinch taught me, what A Charlie Brown Christmas taught me, what I’ve come to appreciate about Christmas as I grew up in this materialistic world. I can say everyday can have the Holiday spirit, but Christmas is the time where I feel compelled to be grateful of what I’ve made and got and give back when honestly, I don’t care about getting the most expensive stuff anymore like I used to when I was way younger. This film is so sincere in what it wants to say, and you know this is indeed the same guy that made Minions. Yeah, not kidding and I’ll let you sit with that if you’re reading this as I continue because we have to talk about that moment...
Yeah, I don’t like being the Nostalgia Critic, but I too don’t take kindly to the ‘liar reveal’ trope myself and this could’ve been a point where the film lost me a little. Though you know what? It still works. See, with that trope, what sucks is that it can tend to unravel the plot to where you know as soon as they break apart, they’ll get back together regardless of the deed done. This is why I don’t like A Bug’s Life, don’t @ me. But I’m not saying it can’t done right, like in Over the Hedge. The breakup between Jesper and the others is painful, but it is necessary to give us a couple great character moments. One is with Jesper and his dad, who came back personally to see that Jesper has indeed built something for himself. We get no dialogue between them but it’s clear that even when Jesper’s unintentionally successful thanks to Yzma and Bubba, he can tell his son wasn’t happy leaving everything behind, so he lets him stay since that was what he truly wanted this whole time. Again, give that man some credit for amazing dad. Another moment comes before the big reveal where not only do we see Jesper come to understand his own guilt surrounding his original intentions, but in the end they never hated him for coming back, especially due to him inadvertently stopping the enemy feud all together. Lastly, without that moment, we probably wouldn’t have got this smile. When Margu, purest character ever that I could make a whole segment about but I don’t wanna keep you too long, started to tear up after calling for Jesper thinking he left for good but she then sees our guy never really left and we get this teary smile:
I felt that. Almost more than anything else in this film.
Cliched as it can appear, the execution excels in those more memorable emotions for this film. It’s been a year since I watched this again and I remember so much about these characters. And my god, I haven’t even gotten to the animation which... my god.
Klaus is indeed the most beautiful upon beautiful films I’ve seen, and what makes it better is that it all enhances the story. I mention before of its transitional visual from cold to warm sights, but goddamn, the character designs, the environments, the expressiveness, the textures all amount to style perfect for this alone. I think it would’ve as well received if it had a more flat look, but they seriously went higher for a traditional appealing story that compliments the unique children’s storybook look of it all. This honestly is better than most of modern Disney films that I’ve seen, ironic since it feels like if you took Tangled the Series and made it 3D with more fluid character animation. And if I’m comparing something to the continuous mindblower that’s Tangled the Series, you’ve most certainly got on my best side.
Sergio Pablos and his team really pulled no punches in making this a great movie. A great Christmas movie, one worth seeing if not at least once but every Holiday season for tradition’s sake. Klaus gave me a good time, made me cry, and above all showed me to never stop having a good heart because doing good can indeed go far, thankless as it can be. Heck, my heart felt more rejuvenated than before in making this critique, that’s a testament to how much good this film means to me personally. What else is there to say?
It's The Best

It was early. Golden hues of the freshly risen sun illuminated the bleak and sinister depths of the woods. No birds sang, no children laughed… who would want to be in the middle of nowhere at this time of day?
By the sounds of footsteps slowly trudging through the blanket of snow, there was one soul who did.
The man was enormous; tall and strong. He wore a pitch-black cloak and hid his face with a hood. Hidden beneath the hood were the man’s bright blue eyes. They were bright enough to pierce through the darkness. His white beard was the only other color that stood out from his dark appearance.
Within the man’s hands were bundles of tied up logs. Once he arrived at a tree stump, he set the logs down onto the snow. One at a time, the man unraveled a log and placed it onto the stump. He reached into his dark cloak and pulled out a sharp silver axe. Once within his grasp, he transferred his force forwards, and began slicing the logs, bit by bit.
CLUNK. CLUNK. CLUNK.
Each strike echoed throughout the woods. Within the trees above the woodsman, dangling birdhouses became active. The birds entered and exited the homes, beginning their morning routines.
Just as life began within the woods, a gentle breeze began to blow. Fallen leaves traveled through the breeze, gliding through the sudden Winter gales. The winds traveled through the woods, and finally began to surge around the woodsman’s feet.
His blue eyes widened instantly. He dropped his axe and redirected his gaze upwards. He knew what this was. The mysterious gusts of wind changed its direction as the man looked up. The breeze was urging him towards the Northern area of the woods; right where the sunlight was the brightest.
A solemn smile crept on the woodsman’s face. It was time to be reunited. He slowly followed the gentle winds towards the sunlight. As he got closer, the woodsman closed his eyes. He could almost feel her embrace once again. He stepped closer… and closer… until…
“ WHAT THE FRUITCAKE?! “
The woodsman abruptly opened his eyes upon the sudden outburst. Utterly in shock, he looked around to see he was no longer in the woods, rather he was in the middle of a workshop, surrounded by bearded men dressed in red.
“ WHO THE HEY IS THIS GUY? “ a man wearing a leather jacket shouted.
Murmurs erupted around the room. As the men all spoke amongst themselves, they slowly approached the woodsman. The cloaked man was still in shock. His eyes moved frantically as he searched for any sign of his love.
“ No… No… No, NO!! “
This didn’t make any sense to the woodsman, and frankly felt unfair in his eyes. He placed his hands on the sides of his head and slowly slumped to the ground. As his head was lowered, tears could be seen falling from the hood of the cloak.
Each of the other Santas backed away from the woodsman.
“ Uhh… this ‘s awkward. “ Gruzzlebeard whispered to Secret Santa, who elbowed him for his remark.
From the crowd, a large Santa came forward. He placed a hand on the woodsman, revealing his tattooed arm. The woodsman looked up and was met with a concerned look from North.
The Guardian knelt down to the woodsman and said, “ Come with me. “ in a low tone.
With no better options available, the woodsman followed.
Inside North’s Office, the woodsman sat silently. He stared at his own hands, lost in thought. North silently closed the door behind him and watched the woodman’s mind wander.
“ Tell me, “ North began, as he placed a tray of cookies down in front of the woodsman (who ignored the offer). “ Who are you? “
North’s voice was enough to break his own concentration. The woodman stared back at the Guardian before answering.
“ ...Klaus. “
“ I am North; Guardian of Wonder, and the Santa Claus of this world. “
Klaus raised an eyebrow at the term, Santa Claus. North continued by sighing and grabbing a cookie.
“ Forgive them, Klaus. You gave them quite the scare! Walking from thin air! No one has done this before- “
“ This isn’t where I’m supposed to be. “ Klaus interrupted.
North’s eyes widened. “ Oh? But you are Santa Claus, no? Big man, white beard, gifted toymaker… When the green and red portal took you- “
“ Wh- What are you talking about?! There wasn’t a green and red portal! Lydia- “ He winced once he said her name. North’s eyebrows lowered as Klaus began to cry again.
There was a lot to process about Klaus’ story, but right now, that wasn’t important. North placed a hand on Klaus yet again. This time as Klaus looked up, he noticed the ring on North’s hand.
“ ...Not many understand the feeling of loss. As a Guardian, we grow accustomed to our new lives; some forget their past. Others... “ He looked down. “ Never forget what they experienced... or who they loved. “
Klaus met North with teary eyes. He remained silent, but he understood that North knew his pain.
“ Klaus… I do not know who you are, but you are here for a reason. If your love brought you here, honor her wish any way you can. “
“ … “ He looked down, but nodded.
“ If you need anyone to talk to, I am here. There are a lot of Santas outside, each veeery different. If that is too much, you come here. “ He pointed downwards.
“ ...Alright. I will. “ Klaus got up and placed his trembling hand on the doorknob. Before twisting it, he turned towards North and smiled. “ Thank you. “
North grinned back, and motioned for Klaus to meet the others. With an inhale, Klaus opened the door and the other Santas roared with applause. As the woodsman closed the door, North stayed behind. He got up from his desk and walked to his window. Within his hands, he held a small framed picture of him and his wife. North kissed his fingers, then placed it on his wife’s face.
“ Пока мы не встретимся снова, любовь моя. “

VioletGanache42's Holiday Watchlist
The holiday season is coming up once again and I am here to bring another watchlist just for the occasion! When I made my Halloween watchlist, I ended up liking the idea a lot to where I decided to do something similar for the holidays. Here, you'll find a festive collection of movies and TV episodes and specials; although a majority of it is Christmas, I also made sure to include any Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year stuff I enjoyed. I even threw in a few winter-themed episodes for a couple of shows, mostly for shits and giggles.
Much like my Halloween watchlist, this will also be under a "Read More" because of its length and I want to surprise you with any more additions in the following years.

Christmas movies I (try) watch every year
This list is much longer than it should be
The Year Without A Santa Claus - old stop motion. Santa one year decides he’s tired and that no one really cares about Christmas and is gonna take a break. Mrs. Claus and a couple elves try to find proof people care about Santa. Has Heat Miser and Snow Miser aka the best characters ever. ‘Take my Thocks off?????’
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - old stop motion. Santa origin story where he was once young and also hot and overthrew a dictator. Put one foot in front of the other. Building toys was a family profession.
‘Twas The Night Before Christmas - old animation, barely counts as a movie, it’s like half an hour long. A mouse writes a mean letter to Santa so Santa decides not to visit that town. The towns folk try to appeal to Santa before Christmas so he’ll come. Short with some of favorite christmas songs in it.
It Happened on Fifth Avenue - old timey black and white. a homeless man every winter breaks into a rich mans house to live in while the rich man goes south to his winter home. The homeless man ends up taking in some other homeless folks to secretly live in the house with him. Deals with poverty, men back from war who can’t get jobs or houses, and the daughter of the rich man who is trying to make a living on her own.
Miracle on 34th street - specifically the original black and white version. a man claiming to be Santa Clause helps out to fill a mall Santa gig at Macy’s. A young girl was brought up by her single mother to not believe in fairy tales but starts to believe Santa might be real. After some complications this movie turns into a court drama where they have to prove that Santa Clause is a real person basically. It is fantastic and funny and touching.
It’s a Wonderful Life - old timey black and white. Takes you through the life of a simple man as he learns and grows. After an awful day he wishes he had never been born, and an angel comes to show him what the world would look like without him. Much better than any tv knock off every shows. A touching story about the interconnected and interwoven nature of people.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - the Jim Carey version. It’s the only Christmas movie my dad genuinely seems to tolerate. The story of a man who hates Christmas but learns the true meaning of Christmas. Jim Carey plays character roles wonderfully and this is no exception.
Christmas With The Kranks - this movie sucks and I like it anyway. After their daughter leaves for the peace corps a husband and wife decide to skip Christmas. The bull headed husband decides this means they won’t even do a tree or put up lights or accept gifts. This results in a battle with their neighborhood. It’s silly but I enjoy it.
Klaus - a new addition. 2D animation. Jesper is sent to a remote village up north to try and start a mailing service there. The city is full of mean spirited people at war with one another. He has to find a way to get them to start sending letters if he ever can hope to go home. A heartwarming story that made me cry the first time I watched with simply jaw dropping visuals.
M*A*S*H* - I don’t know the specific number, but there is this one episode where the doctors try to keep a dying man alive until after midnight, so that they won’t have to tell his family that he died on Christmas and ruin the day for his family forever. It is sobering and touching every year along with the other plots that on along side it.
The Santa Claus - a classic if there ever was one. A man finds Santa dead and, through a specific clause in a contract, becomes Santa Claus. You follow him through the year after he found Santa. He starts as a very pessimistic character and slowly transforms into someone who could truly be Santa. The relationship between Scott and his son is the crux of the movie and is very sweet.
The Bishops Wife - old timey black and white. And angel is sent down to a Bishop after he prays for guidance. The angel becomes the bishops assistant and tries to help him along with helping his wife who the bishop has largely ignored and discarded to the side. The angel slowly grows to love the wife which complicates his duty to help the bishop. Very complex interpersonal relationships and an idea between an angels duty and an angels heart.
Fred Claus - Santa’s older brother who became immortal when his brother was granted immortality, he harbors synacism towards his seemingly perfect brother. After getting into some money troubles he ends up working for his brother and hopfully moving to reconcile their differences. The ‘superman’ scene is one of my personal favorite scenes of all time, and I love the way it completely sheds new light on the villain. Cheesy, but what Christmas movie isn’t
Christmas Vacation - a bizarre movie about family and the pointless pursuit for perfection. Is more like several small, funny vignettes that are knitted to make a story. Another movie my dad will watch with the family.
