My Summary:

This was one of the very first fics I ever read in this fandom and also made me practically fall in love with Voltron fan fic. The writing is just superior. It’s heartfelt, angsty, and just straight up beautiful! It has everything from lance angst (I love lance but reading his angst is simply the best), worried Keith, Klance, hidden feelings bursting to the surface, it has everything. Lance angst is so gut churning- and no matter what the writing is flawless! This fic definitely makes my top five!

-(no ships) this one isn't a klance fic, but is def a heavy hurt!lance fic. tw for manipulation, hallucinations, non-con, eating issues, and some other things. i like this one a bunch because it not only shows the bad shit lance goes through, but the aftermath as well. less than 35k words but a really great story overall.

-(no ships) okay so this one isn't a klance fic either but it is honestly an amazing one and doesn't get the recognition it deserves. it doesn't have any ships or anything, but is about lance having to save the entire team during a sick game a random villain lures them into. i love fics about torturing my favorite characters (like lance) and this one does that so so so well. pls give it a read 🙏🙏 also its only 16k words so you can read it super fast!!

Echoes in the Dark - Klance / Angst

The world felt wrong.

Lance McClain could sense it before anyone told him, like the wind had stopped breathing, the stars had dimmed, and gravity had shifted. The hangar of the Castle of Lions buzzed with activity as Blades of Marmora operatives disembarked their ships, moving with grim efficiency. But there was no sign of him. No sign of Keith.

"Where’s Keith?" he asked, forcing a laugh as he jogged toward Kolivan, who was speaking in hushed tones to Shiro. "Where is he? He promised he’d be back before the mission debrief."

Kolivan’s head turned slowly, his eyes heavy with a truth that Lance didn’t want.

"Lance," Shiro whispered, his voice low and broken.

Lance’s breath hitched. "No," he said, his smile faltering as he stepped back, his chest tightening with dread. "No. Don’t. Don’t say it."

Shiro took a step forward. "The mission was compromised—"

"Don’t." Lance’s voice cracked, louder this time. "He’s coming back." His heart raced. "Keith always comes back." He always manages to..

Silence.

Kolivan bowed his head. "Keith gave his life to complete the mission. He… saved us all."

"No." The word left Lance’s mouth as a whisper, then again as a growl. "No! He’s not dead. He wouldn’t just—he’s Keith! He doesn’t die!" His hands balled into fists as he glared at Kolivan, chest heaving. "You’re lying! Where is he?"

The Blade of Marmora leader remained silent, his sorrow a quiet weight that said everything.

Lance felt his knees weaken. His mind spun in a blur of memories—Keith’s smirks, his sharp comebacks, the rare smiles when Lance finally got him to laugh. His eyes squeezed shut, as if willing himself to wake from this nightmare.

"I didn’t… I didn’t even say goodbye," he whispered. His voice trembled, breaking into pieces as tears slipped free. "I didn’t get to tell him… how much he mattered. How much I—"

The words hung in the air, unfinished and broken.

Shiro placed a hand on Lance’s shoulder. "He knew. Lance, I promise you—he knew.”

Lance pulled away, shaking his head violently. "It’s not enough!" he shouted. His fists slammed against the nearest wall, his knuckles splitting on impact. The pain barely registered. "I should’ve been there. I should’ve—"

"You couldn’t have stopped him," Shiro said softly. "Keith made his choice. He did what he always does—he makes rash decisions on his own.. He protects people.. He always puts others before himself.."

"I didn’t ask him to protect me!" Lance choked out, tears streaming freely now. "I didn’t want him to be a hero! I just wanted him to stay! I wanted—" His voice collapsed into a broken sob as he slid down the wall, burying his face in his hands.

The room felt too quiet. Even the sounds of the others on the ship, the other members of the Blade of Marmora, all their noises were drowned out. It was too cold. The kind of silence where Keith’s warmth used to live, where his fierce presence had always kept them steady. And now, there was only the hollow space where he used to be.

Lance gripped his chest, the ache unbearable. "He can’t be gone," he whispered. "I didn’t tell him I loved him. I never told him.”

Kolivan stepped forward, placing something in Lance’s trembling hand. A familiar black and purple knife. Keith’s Marmora blade.

Lance clenched it so tightly it cut into his skin, as if holding onto it would somehow pull Keith back.

The stars outside the Castle burned bright, but all Lance could feel was darkness.

Yeah the Klace fans cant be happy and I’m here to contribute to that.

The tug grew stronger, but it was subtle, almost unnoticeable at first. Lance could feel his heart beat faster, his palms growing a little damp. He took another step back from the bar, trying to focus on something else—anything else. He tried to breathe, tried to talk to Hunk, but every time he looked up, his eyes were drawn back to Keith. It wasn’t anything obvious. It wasn’t like Keith had done anything to stand out. It was just… a presence. Something that Lance couldn’t quite place.

He blinked a few times, shaking his head as if to clear it. “Alright, alright,” he muttered to himself. “Just the alcohol.”

But the weird sensation didn’t go away. It only seemed to intensify the more he tried to ignore it. His stomach started to churn, and his head spun, faster than before. He needed to get out of there. The walls of the club felt like they were closing in, and the crowd’s energy became a dull hum in his ears.

“Hey, Lance, you good?” Hunk’s voice cut through the fog of his thoughts, and Lance realized he had been staring at the bar without saying anything for a few seconds too long.

Lance blinked rapidly, focusing on Hunk’s concerned face. “Yeah. Yeah, just need some air. I’m fine. It’s just the drinks. Probably just a little too much.”

Hunk nodded, but his expression was skeptical. “Alright, man. If you say so.”

Lance didn’t wait for another second. His legs felt unsteady beneath him as he stumbled toward the door, his chest tight, the sensation growing stronger with each step. The club, the noise, the flashing lights—they were all becoming too much. He needed fresh air, needed to clear his head. He pushed open the door and made a beeline for the sidewalk, stumbling out into the cool night.

Once outside, he leaned heavily against the building, his breath coming in shallow gasps. The pull was still there, still twisting in his chest, but now it felt more intense, more real. He could hear his pulse pounding in his ears, but it wasn’t just the alcohol anymore. There was something else. Something that didn’t feel right.

His stomach turned, and before he knew it, he was bent over the side of the building, the contents of his stomach spilling out onto the ground.

“What the hell is wrong with me?” he whispered, still trembling slightly as he wiped his mouth. The weird tug didn’t stop, didn’t let up, but now it felt more like a question—like something he was meant to follow. The question echoed in his mind, but he couldn’t make sense of it.

It was then that he realized. The tug, the dizziness, the tightness in his chest—it had all started when Keith had entered the club. The realization hit him like a wave, but he couldn’t bring himself to focus on it. Not yet.

Lance straightened up slowly, still feeling the pull, but now, he was beginning to wonder if it wasn’t just the alcohol after all.

Keith Kogane angsty prompts and scenarios

Keith witnesses another one of Lance's failed attempts at flirting with Allura and afterward Lance notices him and takes his frustration out on Keith. (most likely verbally or just by teasing him bc of the rivalry, but it goes too far)

a song fic to literally any MARINA and the Diamonds song

A fic with a simple premise, but deep writing would be good. an example of this would be Keith's mental health not being the best and him hiding away in his room and training more as well as eating and sleeping less. from there, it can be a problem that gets better or worse, and he can get comfort from any one or all paladins.

TWWW, super dark!!! Ik this is a rough one, but having similar experiences leads me to find comfort in a character going through rough shit like this, so... When Shiro leaves for Kerberos Keith is a ward of the state (bc he has no parents) and that means the Garissons has basically all of the control over him. Iverson uses this to manipulate (maybe even groom or SA) Keith and always has total access to Keith, which is scary and takes a toll on anyone's mental well-being. - to build on this, Shiro could figure this out, or it could be brought up as to why he left the Garrisons, could involve Iverson punching - hurting Keith, or smth darker bc of behavior or test scores, or another paladin could tease him for being Iverson's fav (lance could be jealous or pidge could be talking abt how much Keith could get away with bc Iverson favored him).

I like the idea of James and Keith being fwb or together or smth and James being super proud that Keith won an award or is going to Kerboreos with Shiro or smth

Keith was previously captured and tortured, but Voltron rescues him. After the incident though, they visit a planet to make relations and gain allies and they show the tapes of Keith's interrogation and torture to prove that he didn't release any info, despite his heritage, which triggers him and shows the other paladins how much he suffered (maybe they showed tapes of Keith fighting in the ring).

I love the idea of Keith being Shiro's prodigy and Shiro being his mentor, so what if Keith also went on the Kerberos mission bc of this, but he and Shiro were separated when captured by Galra, so when Shiro returns, Keith is still captured. I think that Shiro and Pidge would bond tons looking for their family and a bonus is that until they find another paladin, they can't form Voltron, but they don't know that Keith is Red's paladin.

also, Keith's trauma after the previously mentioned prompt would be so sad and perfect, what if he is permanently injured or disabled or just that Keith witnessed and did so much to survive that he is just destroyed mentally ------ pls pls plsssss make this one, bc it think it could be so good and complex and show what the paladins and Keith are going through at the same time in different places.

At this point, Keith can’t take it anymore and starts cackling like crazy, his voice slightly raspy. Lance declares it the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard. He’s never seen Keith laugh so hard, and it always feels so good knowing he’s the cause, in a good or bad way.

“Can you ever shut up?” Keith manages to utter between snickers.

“I can, I just don’t want to! What are you going to-”

Keith huffs and grabs his face, squeezing his cheeks to stop him from talking.

“Lance, close your fucking mouth and kiss me!”

 Keith is a pianist haunted by dark thoughts and an even darker past. He attends Altea's Music Academy, but has never performed in public before; that is until his brother Shiro, who's a piano teacher, decides to promote the school with concerts at the Paladin's, the trendiest pub in town. His colleagues and friends, Pidge and Hunk, are excited: he can finally meet their best friend, Lance!

Their first encounter is... not good.

No one expects Keith and Lance to fall in love at first sight. Not even them.

The other boy glances up, caught between a laugh from watching Pidge and Hunk write a lewd message in the sand. He flips him off and Lance’s hand-painted skull grins back at him. Keith’s cheeks are pink from the chill, his eyes bright and mischievous as the wind catches on the edges of his hair.

Lance mechanically waves back as he pulls away from the binoculars, Keith becoming a tiny figure against the sand as a blush begins to stain Lance’s cheeks. He hikes the collar of his jacket up, glancing furtively back at Shiro and then down at the shore below.

The first time it happened, Lotor had just joined them, and Keith had left.

Lance wanted to do his best to replace the red paladin, and among his duties was to act as Shiro's right-hand man.

And the right-hand man's duties were to advise the leader, and Lance was convinced that having Lotor on board was a bad idea.

Too bad for him that Shiro didn't want a right-hand man. He wanted a punching bag.
