Currently in a long ass line for early voting (PLEASE VOTE IF YOU LIVE IN THE USA BTW, so many of our rights are at stake!!!) and I got a kudos email from ao3 for The Avatar and the Fire Prince… so I went to check and I now have 3,002 kudos??? 🤯😭

I just wanna say thank you so so SO much to everyone who has taken the time to read this fic - I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined that it would ever get this much attention when I first started posting it way back in January 2022. I even gave up posting for several months after the first couple chapters because I wasn’t confident in my ability to write, and was overcritical of myself. But since December 2022, I’ve done my best to keep up with updating TAatFP at least once a month, and I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to keep up with that fairly well for the most part.

TAatFP is a labor of love and truly one of the only things I’ve ever managed to maintain a vested interest in almost 3 years after starting it. I still literally think about this fic every day (even if I don’t always write for it every day, and I’m so glad I do lol.

It’s really funny to me that despite being a superfan of AtLA since 2007, I was not even a Zukaang shipper until late 2021 when I had my epiphany about the ship, and now it has become my top ship above anything else in any other fandom despite not even being canon! I’m SO happy that TAatFP has opened so many people’s eyes to the potential of the ship!

Anywayyyyy I hope you all have a great Halloween! I’m going to be spending the next week playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard (I took off work for it lmao), so I apologize if the next TAatFP chapter is posted later than usual - though I’ve already managed to get a large chunk of it written thankfully, so hopefully it won’t be too much later than usual.

(Also, I’m sorry that I haven’t gotten to responding to comments for the last two chapters for those who have taken the time to leave them - it’s been a busy couple of months, and I really need to just sit down and answer them all in a chunk 😅)

Constantly repeating something doesn’t make it true. 

Ratings took a long never ending spiral when Barchie cheated followed by Barchie “sealing” it with shower sex. 

Jabitha happened end of season 5 when finally got together.

They literally have nothing to do with RD’s rating disaster. They didn’t cause it. Lili and KJ’s characters together caused it and LILI wanted that pairing after breaking up with Cole. 

Current ratings are just a result of constantly moving the show, long breaks and and uneven story telling. But ratings are so low I hardly think it matters if up .04 or down .05. Show is ending too.

Once again certain people find it hard to accept two things. 

Lili does not and never has carried the show. Placing her with KJ tanked it because they have no chemistry and she is not a good enough actor to carry him. After 2 years without Cole I actually think he was the one that motivated her to be better because without him her scenes are stiff and awkward. During this period the show sidelined Cole as a loser drunk which HIS fans hated. The only redeeming grace was Erinn/Tabitha but even there once started to move forward RAS separated by having Jughead leave town again. Because he is an uneven story telling hack. Even when he finds something that works he manages to find a way to stall it.

Second..your being a racist doesn’t mean Jabitha doesn’t have fans. They were practically the only thing people liked about the finale (and I mean even formerly non shippers) which otherwise was abysmal. Sure, some people liked the notion Choni might not be done but the actual scenes were insulting. 

You all continue trying to link Jabitha reception to Barchie reception but it’s just not the same. The couples didn’t form at the same time and fanbases are different. A lot of Jabitha fans are Jughead fans and NOT Barchie/Archie or Betty fans. Yes there is crossover because Barchie’s believe Jabitha secures barchie. Also at this point Barchie’s probably are the largest shipper base because so many Bughead or Jughead fans left the show after the cheat arc. But they aren’t coming back. The remaining viewers are fine with Jabitha. Infact I think that is the only couple almost everyone agrees on with exception of L-stans. Every other relationship is more fluid.

Me in my naïveté: surely, the Nancy Drew writers, the best writers the CW has on staff, have run out of ways to bring back past moments and episodes that seemed unimportant at the time.

When I say tonight’s episode made me absolutely lose my actual goddamn mind that is not in any way an exaggeration. My brain physically pried itself out of my skull and ran away down the street.

Jesus Jedediah Christ the way they brought back those five people/ghosts who at the time seemed absolutely unimportant and sent me so entirely off my rocker if I even attempt to think about it for more than two seconds I’ll spontaneously combust so we’re going to have to work around it.

First off, no surprise: HANNAH GRUEN. My bae. My wife. Love of my life. You were only there for two minutes but they were exquisite.

Second I fucking KNEW that dude from the Marvin funeral episode was important. If you’ll recall from my review my theory at the time was that maybe HE killed Owen, but you know what this was so much better.

Okay, to business. At the beginning when Nancy is seeing all of the scratches on Douglas Marvin’s grave and then we zoom out to kind of see the Aglaeca in the side of the frame, and then zoom out more and it turns around and LOOKS at us doing that creepy little swaying thing? POETIC CINEMA. Riverdale wants what Nancy Drew has.

That “unfortunate first meeting” George had with Nick’s mom and her subsequent attempts to prove herself, culminating in Millie giving her the dumpling recipe? Adorable. Speaking of the mom, I do indeed hope we see more of her. Her and Nick’s moment at the end of the episode where he talked about seeing her cry in the courtroom absolutely broke my heart. I can’t handle the thought of him not at the very least having the occasional phone call with her from this point onwards.

To be entirely honest almost every scene with the mom broke my heart. When she was talking about how she and her husband raised Nick to always do everything right and lost him anyway? Hhhhhhhhhhhhh it hurts. The writers said they would be keeping BLM in mind while writing this season, like how they kept Me Too in mind for the first one, and I was a little worried it would be hamfisted. But if they continue as they did tonight it will be nothing but beautiful.

Guys. Guys. I know I said I had no idea how to talk about it but I have to talk about it. That scene in the orphanage. When they find the photo. And Nancy realizes she has seen all of those ghosts before.

EPISODE 3.

SINCE EPISODE THREE THE WRITERS HAVE BEEN PLANNING THIS.

GODDAMN DO WE LOVE CONTINUITY AND FOLLOWING THROUGH ON PLOT LINES AND WRITERS WHO KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THEY’RE DOING. I WANT TO FIND THE SHOWRUNNER AND KISS THEM ON THE MOUTH.

Anyway.

I thought Carson and Ace had some really nice moments this episode. i.e. “The guy at the store said it was a one man job.” “I think the guy at the store lied to you.” I am, however, curious if Nancy is going to ever bring her father in on the fact that supernatural beings exist and that she deals with them on the reg. Like I know he helped them out with the coma ritual with McGinnis (McGinnis come back 😭😭😭) but they never really brought it up with him again, and he’s been like kept out of the loop on it all ever since. I’m just wondering if he in fact actually knows and is just remarkably calm all the time, or if he’s in denial, or what. But tbh I do have a very strong amount of sympathy for Carson, and I really want him and Nancy to get back on good terms. At the end of the episode when she brought him the coffee and stuff I teared up a little. I’m an adult, I can admit it. Maybe it’s just because I’m such a massive fan of the books, where she and her dad were so close, but having them at odds especially after they started out that way, is painful.

Speaking of the books.

Fernwood orphanage. Hhhhhh writers I see what you did there. But for those of you who don’t know, in Nancy Drew #9 The Sign of the Twisted Candle, Nancy Bess and George stop at a roadside inn/bed and breakfast type place. At the inn is a 100 year old man named Ada Sydney who Nancy befriends, along with a young orphan waitress named Carol Wipple whom Ada has a soft spot for. The next day he dies, and turns out Carson is his lawyer and Nancy goes with him for the will reading. Long story short, Carol is apparently his granddaughter and he leaves her like EVERYTHING, but when she was young she grew up at, drumroll please!

FERNWOOD ORPHANAGE. I AM DECEASED.

And the Stratemeyer woods? For the same people, Stratemeyer Syndicate was the place that published all the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Bobbsey Twins, Tom Swift books, etc. You will not be able to find them today however, as they were bought by Simon and Schuster in like 1987.

Back to the show.

When Detective Tamura (aka The Inferior McGinnis Who Can Rot In Hell) said the skeleton was Buddy and NOT KJ (AJ? I’m deaf) I got suspicious. And then as soon as they played the record and only five ghosts showed up, I was all ‘HOLY SHIT HE IS ALIVE’ and then he WAS. At the end of the episode, when they saw the flowers on the graves? You guys I was LOSING. MY MIND. And then the note saying “forgive me -kitsune” aaaaaaah. I am in fact afraid that he wants forgiveness because he sacrificed the others to save himself, but I am praying the writers do not do that to me.

I’m interested in finding out, assuming we meet KJ/AJ next episode, WHY the 1975 group reached out to the Aglaeca in the first place. Nancy and Crew did it because they needed Lucy Sable’s bones from 20 years ago to get Carson off the hook for murder, I am assuming these guys had at least as good a reason. And the Aglaeca herself. Dear god you guys. Odette Marvin. I’ve been saying and we��ve all known for a while, that she was wronged by the Marvin family. But Lordy that’s extreme. Listening to the overlaying recording? They low key abducted her, stole her fortune, her chaperone and the captain betrayed her, she was presumably bound hand and foot had her head shaved and got thrown into the ocean. I think I might be a little murderous too ngl. Although it begs the question, why exactly did Douglas Marvin have her painted into the hall of tragedies? I don’t think it was to gloat. Maybe Odette haunted him after the fact and added herself into the painting? But my favorite theory is that Odette as the Aglaeca started killing all the people who were in on it, her chaperone, the captain, etc., (I assume there were six) and Douglas saw the others dying and painted her into the portrait as a way to warn future generations of Marvins, rather than fess up to what he had done. I also want to know the deal with the first women to summon her, and the mirror? There is potential there I KNOW IT.

If you’re not a Drewson shipper feel free to skim this paragraph but guys Nick and Nancy are soulmates it’s confirmed. I’m not even kidding guys I was in no way shape or form prepared for the amount of Nick x Nancy content I got tonight. When Nick is at her house and they mention how they skipped friendship the first time around? “We skipped a lot of things the first time around.” DEAD. And then later at the Claw, when Nancy and not George came to comfort him post fight with the mother? And then he saw that look Nancy gets where her eyes flit around cause her mind is working overtime? *chef’s kiss* My prediction is they will spend this season building up a strong, solid, foundational Nancy x Nick friendship and then when they give the romance a second go they will be so. much. stronger. I’m guessing season 3 will be spent in a bit of a complicated love triangle with Nick and Nancy (re)developing feelings for each other while still having them for George and Ace, making the eventual payoff all the more delightful.

I close this review - which was admittedly less of a review and more of me shrieking incoherently - off with a plea to the writers.

I wish I was someone who had more time to dedicate to this, but if someone out there could time how many scenes B/A has had since the shower™️ where they’re NOT hooking up (pre and post hookup too) or discussing hooking up, I bet we’d have less than 5 minutes of content.—honestly, yeah. i think that’s why they’re being so aggressive lately. and it’s why bughead working together and actually being around each other without it being sexual has them gritting their collective teeth because bughead always gets what they want for b/a they just don’t want to own up to that fact (the whole archie and betty as a new detective duo was particularly transparent tho). because then it’s like, well, why not just ship bughead (you know, how they say to us about b/a all the time). 

my best guess is that they just like archie. or kj. or hate jughead, ha. 

That’s not a love story being told.—it really doesn’t seem like it, does it? i’ve already seen lots of goalpost moving. it went from they’re already in love and they’re going to date right away and be engaged by the end of the season to they’re fwb who are going to fall in love to archie is going to make betty jealous with chad and veronica to betty is the one who called it friends so archie is pining for her and she’ll realize what she has when it’s gone and they’ll have that slow burn for 5b or s6. 

what have bugheads said consistently? betty and jughead are going to reunite after the time jump once they start spending time together because they’re still in love with each other after all this time, despite all of their obstacles in the past and present. 

i believe varchies have said the same thing. but two totally different groups of shippers are totally off base and the ones who made grand declarations every season much to their own disappointment are the ones who are on the money, yeah? 

but we’re the ones who can’t read media, right? 

i feel like one of us has a more consistency with reading narratives vs the other. but that might just be me. 

That’s trying to get softcore p*rn on the CW to enjoy KJ and Lili’s hotness! That’s why I side-eye the people who say they are “really enjoying B*rchie this season” like bitch where? You’re enjoying two hot actors being semi naked and sexy around each other? Ok then just say that and leave.—if people want to enjoy the actors hotness, that’s fine with me. all the time jumps in teen shows (or when it starts as adults) have more explicit sex scenes. they’re really not special in that regard. lots of people who are just watching pretty people do sexy things aren’t nearly as invested as the other shippers so i’m sure a fair few of them won’t actually mind when it ends, tbh. they’ll probably awww at the reunions along with the rest of us.

It's funny how the BAs don't understand what the writers are doing. They are not exploring BA on any emotional level, so the only thing they can do to keep BAs hooked is sex scenes.—mood. there seems to be no actual plot moving around their hookups other than it being used to introduce something else and hanging over their heads as a dramatic chekhov’s gun. 

The only thing that I really don't like about that scene is that one of my headcanons was that Betty didn't want to have sex at the Cooper house because she didn't want to do it on what used to be Jug's room. BUT, I still have *some* hope that she won't go through with it, but I'm probably just kidding myself—i’m sorry the show is ruining that headcanon for you. they’re really not as sentimental about some things the way we are. it’s really just betty’s childhood room in the frankest sense of the words, you know? they’re probably just there for plot; the way the car was or the shower was. they’re not thinking past that. 

i’ve discovered that there are things in my own writing that people take to a deeper meaning that i randomly do or say with no intention of it being taking as anything other than at face value. you really can’t predict who’s going to find something deeper in something when you put it out into the world, you know? 

maybe the whole thing is a fire hazard for a reason, ha. i have no idea what the show’s obsession with candles is, but i’m starting to think they’re all boxed up and labeled “sex candles—pairing optional” when they’re not being used on set.

Barchie maybe doesn't have so much screentime, but every scene they have is meaningful (there's hints although the show, even kj admit it) + the writers and the production put more effort in they their scenes are more cinematic pleasing (bughead have cute ones) and even cast kids for the flashbacks

Look, idk why you’re so hellbent on convincing me of B/A as Riverdale’s One True Pairing that’s been so developed and foreshadowed, but like...it’s not going to work.  They’ve had four seasons to do literally anything, and the most they���ve done is crumbs for ratings and controversy that are immediately dropped once they’ve passed.  I really wouldn’t call scenes that have no lasting impact “meaningful”, honestly.  And I don’t know how you can stack up what is probably fewer than ten scenes over four seasons against the standard of bughead getting at least one scene per episode, even when they’re broken up, and varchie getting a steady chunk of content as well.  I’m not sure what you’re going for with “their scenes are more cinematic pleasing (bughead have cute ones)” other than a subjective opinion, and the casting kids argument really works against you because the entire point there was to show that any and all of Betty’s “feelings” for Archie were based in nostalgia and not actual, y’know, feelings. 

But you’re not going to buy my arguments any more than I’m going to buy yours, so I suggest you save us both time in the future and stop trying to convince me of B/A as a quality, believable pairing.  Like you’re free to like it as a ship, go live your best life, but B/A just isn’t the ship Riverdale is going for.  And look, I’ve been there, shipping the non-canon ship sucks, but there comes a point where you have to put aside shipping goggles, acknowledge the direction the show is going, say “Man, the writers are idiots for not going with this, and I’m not going to acknowledge their canon past this point.  Fuck them and their shit taste”, and just go live in a world of fanfiction and fanon and leave your rival shippers and canon in general alone.  It’s pretty freeing, I highly recommend it.

Reasons Why I Don’t Like Barchie

Let me start off by saying that I don't really have a ship for any of the teens really. There are some that I like more than others and there are a couple that are 100% my NOTPs (Barchie being one of them), but I'm not a Bughead stan, a Varchie stan, a Beronica stan, a Choni stan, etc. I mainly focus on the plot and the parents. Ships aren't my main focus most of the time. But I haven't been able to watch this season since Barchie got so much bigger and I'll tell you why.

When I started to watch Riverdale, I was 100% in Betty's shoes. I had a big crush on my best friend and I thought that eventually we'd end up together and when I thought he liked me back, I got rejected just like Betty and was expected to continue to move on as best friends as if nothing happened. But just like Betty, it was too hard and too painful. That happened to me irl only about a few weeks before I watched it happen on Riverdale and I went through that heartbreak all over again. I've seen shippers praising the exact scene where Archie broke Betty's heart after the dance. I don't understand why you could praise a scene where he HURT her. It would be the same vice versa....if she had broken his heart. Either way, it's not romantic at all. She went into her room and probably cried that night. Something I know well about feeling unwanted.

I know several people blame Grundy for that, but that doesn't make any sense. Here's why. Archie never looked at Betty the way he looked at Veronica THE SECOND, she showed up in Pop's her first night in Riverdale. Right there is a clear sign that he wasn't interested in Betty. He proposed to her when they were younger, yes. But they grew up, still really close to each other, and he never asked her out. Meaning he either didn't see her the way he saw Veronica that first day, or he really did just want to stay friends with Betty. Back to Grundy. People say that Archie felt drawn to Grundy so he rejected Betty. But if it were because of Grundy, why, only two episodes after Grundy leaves, did Archie go straight for VALERIE and NOT Betty? Grundy left in Season 1, Episode 4. Which means Archie could have gotten with Betty (if she really was his first choice) in Season 1, Episode 5. I know, I know. It was too soon, right? Hm? Then why did Archie get with Valerie in Season 1, Episode 6? That's not even that much longer after Grundy left. So when people say that Archie has loved Betty this whole time, it doesn't feel true to me, because if she really was his first choice, he would've gone right to her once Grundy was gone, but nope. He chose Valerie first. Also...he kissed Veronica in Episode 1, which shows that Grundy was definitely not stopping him from kissing other girls. They both KNEW Betty liked him yet they kissed anyway even though they WERE just gonna stand in the closet and not do anything till time was up, but they kissed anyway because they were attracted to each other. If Archie was attracted to Betty from the get-go, he wouldn't have held back from kissing her the moment he knew she liked him. He liked Veronica that way, not Betty. So I'm debunking the Grundy theory.

Another thing that bothers me is when people call Jughead "Betty's rebound" off of Archie. Hm...if that was true, I doubt she would've stayed with her "rebound" as long as 4 years. Especially since Betty and Archie have both been single at the same time yet she still chose Jughead over him. She fell for Jug after he finally gave her back the stuff she's been waiting for from Archie. So Jughead was and is not a rebound. If anything, Veronica was ARCHIE's rebound. But not from Betty. FROM VALERIE. He got drunk af at Jughead's birthday party because it was right after Val left him for being a terrible boyfriend (which he clearly is) and after Val threw her drink in his face, he got more drunk and then Veronica kissed him and he was like "Oh, sure. I'll sleep with you since you kissed me and I'm upset and Val left me."

Back to Archie being a terrible boyfriend (aside from when he was with Josie). With Val...he ignored her and only gave her attention when he was gaining something with his music. Then Cheryl's family gave him an opportunity to go to a good music school, so boom, he ignored Val's wish not to be Cheryl's date to her family Maple Gathering. Dumb move. No wonder Val told him she was done. Then...with Veronica, he kissed Betty. But then Betty was not interested (Hmmm, because she loves her “”rebound”” Jughead so much). And then Veronica told Archie to stay away from Hiram and what did Archie do? Completely ignored her and got stuck in some big mob mess and illegal shit. Then he broke up with her over the phone when she was trying to support him. So she got with Reggie who treated her so well (yes, they had problems too) but he was so whipped for her, let's be real. He did everything she wanted and he would've done anything for her. Then they had their issues and broke up but they were about to get back together, LITERALLY, just as Archie showed up and was all "I love you. Come back to me" and Veronica was obviously still not over him, so poor Reggie had no chance and then Veronica got back with Archie who she should not have gotten back with. She was amazing to him (all of his friends were) when his father passed away. But VERONICA talked him out of saying that his father would be ashamed of him and she made him see otherwise and told him that Fred would be proud of him. That's a GOOD girlfriend. Meanwhile, Archie still has eyes for other girls (Betty now apparently). But anyway. I'm just saying that Betty AND Veronica both deserve a better guy than Archie Andrews.

I just don't see why any girl on this show would be shipped with him. Remember when Veronica decided to kiss Jughead to even the playing field after they told Jug about Barchie kissing? Archie looked pissed. Like wtf? You kissed Betty when you were STILL WITH VERONICA. At least Betty and Jughead were over at the time. I don't believe Archie had a right to look so mad about Jeronica's little fun/platonic kiss when what he did was behind Veronica's back and while they were still together. Her and Jug "getting even" was right there in front of the other two and playful. Nothing to be angry or possessive about Archie. Jeez.

The only time he was an outstanding boyfriend was with Josie and that was the only time I was actually EXCITED to watch Archie scenes. They were great together and they both EQUALLY supported each other and helped each other through things. Not to say that Archie doesn't have good qualities, because he does. He's been trying to clean up Riverdale and he helped Veronica figure out how to get Hiram to fight through his sickness. But I just really can't see him with Betty after everything they've been through without each other. They barely talk anyway till now when they're FAKING being together.

Bonus: There are people who talk about how Archie and Betty doing investigations together are better than Betty and Jughead. But the only time Betty and Archie did an investigation together was to figure out who the Black Hood was and they ended up unmasking the wrong person. Their janitor, who was actually innocent. So clearly, Betty and Jughead are a better team. Not to mention, Archie can really be one of the biggest dumbasses in Riverdale.

THE COMICS: Yes. I know they are canon in the comics. But we well know that the comics and the show are VERY different (Did you know that Penny Peabody and Fangs Fogarty are supposed to be endgame like they are in the comics??? But Riverdale made Penny a 30 year old and Fangs a 16 year old, so that became a "NO" right away. Hence...the difference between the show and the comics). Also....there are comics where Betty kisses Archie behind Veronica's back when Varchie were together and she kissed him without his consent in the dark when he thought he was kissing Veronica (A BIG "NO"). So the comics aren't really a good template to follow. Especially since nowadays, I really don't see chemistry between Lili and KJ. Their fake kiss in the music room (I've seen it on Twitter, because I still haven't seen 4x16) was so awkward and weird to watch. It was so bad. Idk. I can't get behind it.

THE FORBIDDEN LOVE: I don’t understand why people call them forbidden, when they’re both Northsiders who grew up next door to each other and they were never forbidden from being friends. They’re not a forbidden love. Bughead was at first because he was from the Southside and Alice didn’t want Betty to be around Jug or Serpents. But Barchie is definitely not forbidden love. If it is now, then it’s because they would both be cheating and that is disgusting.

Anyway, I haven't been able to watch the season since 4x15, because all of this fake Barchie nonsense legit makes me ACTUALLY sick to my stomach. Cheating really is not okay at all and them pretending that Archie cheated on Veronica and that Betty would get another boyfriend SO FAST after she was framed for MURDERING HER OWN really does not sit well with me or my stomach. The writers are NOT doing this right. If they wanted Barchie to be together....the best way to have done that would have been through them ACTUALLY breaking up with their s/o and then becoming close friends again AND THEN moving around to that romance. But this fake dating and fake cheating stuff is disgusting and I don't think I'm gonna continue season 4 if they become canon that way. Just no.

so you falice shippers still ship that mess who fucked once, even after alice willingly took him back after what he said to her and won't even talk to his new son? and are happy about it? lol sucks to be tasteless

This message has been sitting in my inbox for roughly 2 days and I’ve been going back and forth on whether to dignify it with a response or not. While I tend to ignore and delete hateful messages such as this and not give the coward behind them any form of the attention they crave, after careful consideration, I decided to abandon that belief because answering this question gives me a great opportunity to tell you about yourself and how wrong you are, sit back and get comfortable.

First of all, I’ll never understand how people who have 99% of a fandom blocked and filtered tags pertaining to what that fandom makes posts about and produces content for, still manage to make posts about what said fandom is doing, saying etc. Why do y’all make so much assumptions about a group of people you’ve sworn off all contact and interaction with for well over a year? How would you know what goes on in the Falice section of the fandom? So my main question here is, what’s the point of even using the block button against us if you’re still going to come to our blogs and goes through the tags to seek out what we’re up to? If these blocks weren’t in effect we could all have mature discussions instead of resorting to this, so I have to wonder, is it because the block button on your end prevents us from shutting down your bullshit so you can happily enjoy your idealistic totally pulled out of your ass version of Riverdale and it’s ships/characters? Hmm

Second of all, I can assure you no Falice fan is happy or even satisfied about their sudden reunion with no reconciliation or acknowledgement over what happened in 3x15, which we knew was bound to happen, hence why a lot of fics were produced back in the SUMMER containing the content we knew we were not going to get. Would we have loved to actually see FP apologise? Alice to punch him in the face? His reaction to Charles? A touching moment between all three after being reunited for the first time in 25 years? FP to practically grovel to Alice till he was on the brink of tears? Alice acting cold towards him? Heck yeah, we all at least wanted her to spit at him, I don’t know anyone who didn’t want her to act physically towards him, he deserved it, which is why we took our dreams to Wattpad and AO3. Personally I wanted a resentful anadonned child plot to play out where Charles initially hates Alice and we see that play out while they try to build a relationship. We have ranted, we have rambled, we have argued and we have moved on. We don’t watch this show with rose colored glasses and an idealistic perspective. We know it’s a joke and the writers are incapable of decent and realistic execution of development for friendships, relationships, break ups and reconciliations and use time jumps to avoid doing so, we’ve accepted that. We’ve made our peace with that, which is why we can still watch and find some enjoyment while you and others literally complain every single day over the most minor instances.

Thirdly, I admire your attempt to use the writers incompetence when it comes to writing relationships to push your “Falice is a mess who fucked once” arguement and even throwing in the 4x04 time jump matched with FP and Alice suddenly being together and little mention of Charles to put emphasis onto it. You’re trying to twist it into a Falice problem when it’s actually a Riverdale problem sweetheart, their problem with accurate story development and execution and just being lazy with any character and ship outside of Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. If we want to go by that logic then I suppose by default Tom is a bad parent for being conveniently absent during his sons participation in a farm cult and not noticing his missing kidney despite being a cop thus immediately being able to pick up on that. I guess Sweet pea is a shit friend for “not saving” his bff from said cult and I guess Polly’s a bad mother for putting the same twins she was willing to run away from her family from to keep safe, up for adoption, and not even acknowledging their presence now or even having a say in who has custody of them. Of course none of these things are actually true, they’ve just unfortunately happened because of either plot convenience for the core four characters or just complete lack of care from the writers. Just the fact that they still seem to be in their newborn phase despite being nearly three years old according to the shows timeline says it all. They don’t care. As for “mess of a ship who only fucked once”, as much as you people love to clutch onto season one canon or what was established back then for dear life and disclaim 3x04, you sure do love to ignore certain parts of that season and keep 3x04 in your mouths when it comes to Falice. Seasons one and two always implied much more happened between Falice as teens than what 3x04 presented. You don’t go from telling someone you’d still sleep with them if they weren’t so stuck up, impulsively telling them to leave their spouse, doing a parole violating act to protect them, writing an apology letter despite being unable to strong two sentences together, talking about your kids making said mistakes you and your ex did and then snapping back with they weren’t all mistakes and having your heart broken upon seeing the woman you love return to her husband to “Yeah we just fucked once”. Falice were more than a one time thump, and that’s the canon I’m choosing to stick with, the same way you choose to believe Hal fathered Charles despite there NEVER being any implication through dialogue, backstory or characters that he was and there being a higher chance of the father being Tom or Fred before FP being a viable candidate. I’m not going to suspend belief of that just because the writers were more concerned with the sensationalism and “fun” aspect of the teen actors playing their parents, and essentially just doing dress up because none of their portrayals of their parents were accurate or even done to a high standard, Lili’s acting was decent but her acting is decent in general, Cole’s mannerisms were superb and KJ looked like Luke’s twin but outside of that, I didn’t see any of them as young versions of the parents and I promise nobody else did, and doing a storyline revolving around a bootleg Dungeons and Dragons game and making it borderline supernatural rather than just giving us a simple episode about the parents as teens based on the stories that have told on the show already.

You’re most likely a Halice or crackship that will never happen stan, you’ve got bigger priorities than FP and Alice and their relationship love which I’m sure has no impact on you or your faves whatsoever , maybe if you spent the time you did crying over Falice actually minding your business and shipping your ship you wouldn’t be so bitter.

Listen… I don’t know a lot about KJ. We each have our faves and he isn’t one of mine (sorry). From what I understand though, he doesn’t give a damn about the ships. He is not invested in that part of the show. He said before he likes B*rchie because of the comics —a reason often given by B*rchie shippers, that I personally don’t understand. Archie chose Veronica again and again in the comics, leaving Betty behind without remorse, but I digress—, it doesn’t mean he really wants them together.

Riverdale isn’t going in that direction anyway. If I’m wrong and every B*rchie shippers dream comes true? It won’t change a thing between Cole and Lili. Promise. The show isn’t real.

And for your question… No. I don’t think KJ is interested in Lili. Even if he was, he doesn’t stand a chance against the love of her live and her greatest ally.

Shipping Real People is Wrong

(and why you should care)

Yes. This post is exactly what it seems like. I don’t see a reason to beat around the bush on this topic. It shouldn’t be a controversial one to discuss. And yet? It is- for some ungodly reason that I can’t even begin to fathom.

Let’s start with what shipping is, and why it’s okay, when applied to fictional people. Shipping is, in short, thinking two fictional characters (i.e. Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries) would make a nice couple. Sometimes this involves making edits to support this “pairing” or fanfiction. Other times, the person just consumes entertainment made by other fans who ship the same pairing.

I think we can all agree that this is pretty okay. It used to be considered a little odd, but nowadays it’s pretty widely accepted.

Where we begin to run into trouble is when we involve real people. When fans begin to pressure the actors/actresses to date in real life. Now, Ian (Damon) and Nina (Elena) did date in real life, to the thrill of many fans. People loved them together. Until they broke up.

You’d think people would stop rooting for them as a couple, considering they’d broken up and Ian married another woman and has a daughter. Unfortunately, no. Many people still ship Ian and Nina IRL and this is where things get...well, tricky.

A good example of things becoming an absolute mess due to fans shipping co-workers together, is none other than One Direction. You’ve probably heard of “Larry Stylinson” at some point.

Do you realize that was the destroyer of a close friendship? One of the people being shipped in the relationship, Louis Tomlinson, spoke out about how uncomfortable he and Harry felt, and how it ultimately ruined their friendship.

"It kind of happened naturally for me and Harry because a certain amount of the fans drew up this conspiracy," Louis said about the Larry Stylinson conspiracy theories. "When it first came around I was with Eleanor, and it actually felt a little bit disrespectful to Eleanor, who is my girlfriend now. I’m so protective over things like that, about the people I love." Louis said the fear that fans would overanalyze every minor interaction between the two stars caused them to stay away from one another. "It created this atmosphere between the two of us where everyone was looking into everything we did," Louis said candidly. "It took away the vibe you get off anyone. It made everything, I think on both fences, a little bit more unapproachable."

Many fans, self-proclaimed larries, took it a step farther and declared that Eleanor was/is a “beard” (when a person is hired to play the part of a significant other in order to hide a celebrity’s sexuality), that Briana (Louis’ son’s mother) was never really pregnant, that Freddie was a doll or not Louis’. Larries continue to harass Briana and her family on social media, even hurling death threats and wishes.

Larries’ behavior has gotten so out of control that there are entire blogs (ran by so-called “Anti’s”) dedicated to calling out this kind of behavior and helping ex-Larries escape the fanbase (because if you attempt leave the Larry-side of the fanbase, you’ll receive death threats and more spine-chilling comments than one could ever imagine).

From this, we can conclude that shipping can do some serious damage in real life, despite the fact that it’s often seen as “harmless” and acceptable.

There are some other cases of celebrity’s having trouble with fans shipping them. The most recent: Lili Reinhart and her costar on Riverdale, KJ Apa. Lili took to her tumblr to respond to the shippers:

"It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on “my.” It is mine. It is private. If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety… please reevaluate your priorities. I also want to point out that there is a difference between shipping Betty and other characters, and shipping me with literally everyone I make eye contact with.There are so many other things to focus your attention and energy on."

There is the argument that shipping real people is okay as long as it’s in fandom-dominated spaces on the internet (i.e. Tumblr, AO3, Wattpad) and doesn’t make it’s way onto the person’s social media accounts. This is very wrong, for a multitude of reasons.

One of those reasons is the fact that you’re still practicing toxic fan behavior and enticing others to do the same. Doesn’t matter where you’re posting those pornographic drawings of two co-stars who are happily married IRL; you’re still doing it, publicly, and it’s still absolutely appalling. 

Another reason is there is NO such thing as a good place to post that kind of content. Fans thought they were safe running to Wattpad...until Zayn Malik himself created an account to promote his book. People were creating memes and cracking jokes that held a whole lot of truth underneath: “delete your fics before he sees!”

This was said for the same reason that people panic and  threaten to delete their Twitter when their favorite band follows them: they’re ashamed of themselves. Even if they won’t admit it, even if they pretend it’s funny, even if they refuse to stop. They feel some guilt, deep down, for what their fave might see on their account.

I imagine there are some people out there who don’t feel any guilt for what they do and the pain they cause. They’re so far down the rabbit hole of slowed down GIFS and flourishing fantasies that they don’t know the difference between reality and fiction and they don’t care.

Call them out and suddenly you’re being branded a multitude of things by not only them, but their online circle, too. One of these things, if the ship in question is same-sex, is homophobic or hetero-normative.

Tumblr seems to have this odd obsession with gay couples, namely male gay couples. It’s fetishistic, and has become an accepted part of fandom life when it should be anything but.

If the two people involved in the ship are straight (or worse, has a partner already), why is it okay to say they’re lying and “definitely gay”? Would any of these people be comfortable with labeling a gay person as straight for their ship? 

Here’s something else to chew on: Making two best friends who are male into a ship, normalizes “bro culture”. How? Because it illustrates that showing any care or concern for your friend makes you gay or bi. Not everyone is capable of letting that kind of thing roll off their back or it goes beyond what they could handle while remaining unaffected (i.e. Harry and Louis’ friendship).

I don’t think there’s a person who’d argue that Harry is against the LGBT+ community or that he’s homophobic, as he has pride flags at his concerts and encourages fans to be themselves. If this doesn’t showcase that most people would be uncomfortable with real life shipping, I don’t know what else will. Put yourself in his shoes. In Louis’ shoes.

It’s not a great place to be.

Popularity scale for RIverdale. 

KJ/Archie isn’t particularly popular but he does a small dedicated fanbase who inexplicably finds him attractive. These people don’t care if he is a good person, if his character is a good person. They just want him naked with everyone in town sexually servicing him. I’m pretty sure the only reason they would stop supporting him is if got fat or lost his hair. They are that shallow.

Veronica/Camilla also has a small(er) fanbase that like to identify with her wealth and ethnicity and pretty much see her as the victim no matter what she does. While the current sl didn’t thrill them it did place the character as the victim and the actress as the victim of the need to prop up the white blond by show creators so this plays in nicely to her fanbase. No lost fans here.

Jughead/Cole have been frequently screwed by TPTB throughout the show run and this is no different. His character isn’t the one cheated and Cole didn’t open his mouth and beg for a new onscreen partner. To be fair I don’t think Cole is a huge shipper of any couple, outside of liking the idea of making out with his then girlfriend I think he’s more interested in story ideas beyond which mattress he is riding that day. His fanbase is significantly larger encompassing more than RIverdale fans and no sl was going to hurt Cole’s popularity. Jughead’s popularity could have taken a small dent but again HE didn’t cheat and his portrayer as I said didn’t come out months ago gushing about not having to kiss Lili. 

That leaves Betty/Lili. Betty’s entire character has been completely remade into something not at all resembling what people liked about her all to prop KJ/Archie up which has massively failed them both. KJ/Archie’s popularity is stagnant and hers nosedived. Add to that the actress foolishly decided to briefly campaign for Barchie and now all the fans looking for a target to blame for Bughead’s destruction light on her. I think the creators would have done it whether she supported it or not but this is why I said she was making a huge mistake with what she did. Does she have more fans on social media following her to see what she wears? sure. Does she have more fans than KJ willing to support her character or any professional activity she pursues moving forward? I have doubts. Mainly because as I said HIS fans only care he not be fat or bald. Her fans, a significant portion of them, were all into the perfect goddess. Both onscreen and off and that has been damaged.

In order of current Riverdale popularity I think it’s Cole massively over everyone. Then KJ maybe barely double digit with Betty and Veronica somewhere behind that. Depending on storyline Cheryl can be in front of the last three, in middle or behind. Polls consistently seem to back this up as well. TBH I think the only person who’s popularity increased as a result of this SL was the one the creators didn’t intend. Jughead.

Varchie had such growth in ONE 40 MINUTE EPISODE!! Like, it’s incredible. It had so much up and downs. First Archie and Veronica being a bit playful and asking Veronica if she’s ever walked a dog before. Very Archie 2015, I think. And then Archie telling her about his childhood (he does that often). And then their FIGHT! OMG, THE FIGHT WAS MY FAVORITE PART. 

The acting was SO GOOD. CAMI was phenomenal and KJ was great. When he said, “yeah, I do.” when veronica asked whether he wants her to leave. It was so good. It was convincing too, which is so surprising for Archie since he can’t lie™ but also you can still feel his pain. It was all so good. 

And then Archie being like, “I don’t deserve you.” Omg, my wig FLEW!! IT was just so good. 

I think it was the PERFECT start of their relationship. I mea, definitely not ideal (fred getting shot and all) but it’s so solidified now. We have a  bright future in this ship, that’s soaring!

It wasn’t until November when Betty cornered him at school, asking him to pretend to be her date to the Cooper Family Thanksgiving. That her mom kept hinting she had boys she wanted Betty to meet, a good strategy for college connections, Kevin whispered to him as she’d looked up at him with big green eyes.

Had she turned those eyes on Jughead over the years, he’d wondered, knowing if she had that’s probably why Jughead had never been able to say no to her. It took less than a minute for him to cave, agreeing to be her dinner date, as long as his dad was also welcome.

Her bright smile, the little bounce she did on her toes distracted him, causing him to notice something about Betty that he’d never paid much attention to before.

Betty Cooper was all grown up.

Kevin smirked at him as he blushed, Betty hugging him before wandering off down the hall, already glued to her phone, the way she had been since Jughead left Riverdale High.

It wasn’t until he’d been what Kevin called her “beard” all through the holidays that he figured out what had been going on and why she insisted they continue pretending to date for her parents.

He’d been bored one Friday night, picking at the strings of his guitar as he saw the shadow of someone sneaking up the tree to his old treehouse. Grabbing the bat he’d had since he was in Little League, he snuck out of back door and tried to stay quiet as he made his way up old wooden steps still haphazardly nailed to the trunk of the old oak tree.

Too big for the doorway, he’d been kneeling, trying to be quiet and catch them by surprise as he heard a feminine laugh and the rustle of clothing. Confused, he’d peeked through the window and almost fell of the tiny porch that had always seemed so much bigger in his youth.

The sight of a Serpent jacket and gray woolen beanie in a growing pile of clothes elicited a barely audible gasp out of him. Leaning against the side of the treehouse he could hear the murmurs of the pair inside, shock still racing through his veins.

Words floated through the quiet night air, still cold even as the snow melted in the daylight. Things like I miss you and you’re driving me crazy , touch me there, do you like that? The soft whimpered murmurs of please and yes and just like that. The stifled gasps of Betty and fuck and that’s it, baby, come for me.

Horrified by his inability to leave, he watched his childhood best friends in fascination as they lost themselves in each other’s bodies. He hated himself in that moment, the desire he felt for Betty and the intense rush of jealousy over Jughead being the one who got to fuck their best friend until her legs shook, until her back arched, until she came with a moan and her fingers bit into Jughead’s shoulder blades.

Were they together ?

Was fucking all it was?

He’d made the choice to climb back down the tree when he heard the sharp slap of skin on skin as Jughead’s movements sped up, the harsh panting as Betty encouraged him to come in her, to let her have all of him. He could see Jughead bite down on Betty’s shoulder as he came, hips jerking as Betty’s thighs cradled him between her legs.

Archie took a deep breath in an effort to calm himself, the need to get away from what he just saw taking prevalence over the idea that they might hear or see him as tried to leave. He slipped away as silently as he could, almost jogging back to his house and up the stairs as he threw himself on his bed and stared up at the ceiling.

17.British Puns and Greasy Hair : Final Chapter

Here’s my predictions for 1x13 for Bughead. I have two plots (and two within one, it’s complicated okay but I’m going to try to be as simple as possible!)

Situation 1: Bughead breaks up.

I know I know, no one here wants that, but it’s a possibility. I mean, they love each other, Betty said it, Jughead showed it. Plus, Cole and Lili said that, like any real and believable relationships (Cole insisted on the “real” a few times during interviews), there’s gonna some bumps on the road. 

So, if they were to break up, I think they would talk about it a long time during 1x13 (you’ll probably need tissues), and we’ll have some good and deep Bughead moments even if it’s sad. Lili also said that teenagers relationships comes with breaks up and makes up, soooo if they break up, we can surely and probably have them back together for season 2. 

But please I need at least another Bughead kiss before their break up. Maybe a goodbye kiss? With a lot of tears and very emotional so my heart can break a little more because of these cuties.

Situation 2: They’re back together!   (well, did they ever broke up? I mean, it never said...)

1) They talk about their relationship, Jughead thanks Betty for everything she’s been doing for him lately. AND MAYBE, MAYBE, we’ll get the famous “I love you” from both their part, looking right into each others eyes and we’ll be so emotional for the next year because of these cuties. It’s the most optimistic situation, and maybe we’ll get this one. I mean, after they’ve been through, I think they can have peace for once. 

Also, the actors talk a lot about Bughead’s future, in a way that is very mysterious and shady and all and they might be trolling us. I know that KJ said that Archie end up with the girl he should be with, but I tend not to trust KJ’s word. Plus we all know KJ is a biggest Barchie shipper, and Betty right now will never be with Archie at the end of the season (unless a big plot twist that makes no sense). Also, one of the creators said that at the end of the season, Jughead will finally be happy. And who makes Jughead happy? BETTY. And we should not forget the FB live with Lili and Madelaine, where they said that something happens between them, and Mads had a big knowing smile on her face. 

2) The synopsis of 1x13 said: “Jughead (Cole Sprouse) finds himself in an unexpected situation, leaving Archie and the gang scrambling.“ WHAT DOES THAT MEANS? Maybe he and Betty gets back together, but he has to leave town because of his dad or his mother or his sister??? (I mean, FP said that he had Hospital bills to pay so what if one of them is sick?) So we’ll have agonizing goodbye, and maybe an “I love you” during this moment because why not they love to make us suffer. 

In the end, if they said that Jughead will be happy, it probably means that he’s friend with everyone again, and even if he breaks up with Betty, they’re still good friend who could get back together in season 2.
