How would the smaller, weaker ghosts that attached themselves to the stronger, formed outside the Ghost Zone, work?

((I think there would come a point where a ghost who formed outside of the Ghost Zone - if they survived long enough to do so - could stabilize themselves and begin to generate enough energy (ectoplasm?) that they don't need all of it to survive. They could then form some sort of symbiotic relationship with other spirits, in which the little ones get a free meal, and the bigger one gets a few willing minions, maybe?

Some ghosts might like having a bunch of smaller spirits to care for (re: Dulce's massive Kittybeat clowder and Callahan's growing pack of Polterpups), while others might not (Brushfire is only ever seen alongside his horse, Adam). It'd probably come down to preference, and how much excess energy (ectoplasm??) the larger ghost in question was able to generate vs. what they themselves needed to function.))

((Here’s a quick little work sketch of all the little wisps on this blog! I shouldn’t be drawing at work in all honesty but when the day’s training is done and I’m just told to ‘shadow people when customers come in’ except then you don’t see a customer for four hours you need to keep yourself occupied somehow!

“Oh, I would love to!” The little ghost happily picked up the nearest cat, and cradled them in her arms. “I love you, Adipose~” She told it cheerfully. The cat meowed as it was placed back down on the chair, and Dulce picked up the next nearest cat. “I love you, Pickles!” She put this cat down, and ran to pick up the next cat. “I love you, Leon!”

Vivi's Research Notes: Known Wisps

Griflet, Bran, and Chopper

Collectively known as 'Reptilitones', these are the lesser spirits commanded by the Revenant Gawain Kingsmen.

They are reptilian in nature, though only Griflet's original form (an iguana) is known for sure.

Gawain strongly suspects that Chopper was once some type of alligator or crocodile, and that Bran was some sort of ancient pterosaur (more evidence is needed to confirm).

Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La

Collectively known as 'Deadbeats', these are the lesser spirits commanded by the Revenant Lewis Pepper.

Their true forms are unknown, but there is at least a 50% probability that their formless shapes were once human.

They are capable of speech, but the only words they've been known to say outside of musical hums and trills are "Fuck", "Feed me" (a-la Furby), and "Oh no/Uh oh".

Amara, Oro, and Gris

Collectively known as 'Kittybeats', these are the lesser spirits commanded by the Revenant(?) Dulce.

They were all once stray cats that Dulce adopted and cared for, and who stayed with their master after their deaths.’

Considering that Dulce has 57 more living cats in her care, it is entirely possible that the Kittybeat population will grow skyrocket in the coming years.

The Pack

These are the lesser spirits commanded by the Revenant(?) Ivan Callahan.

They are all canine in nature, and are all named after famous hockey players (both living and dead).

Despite glowing blue teeth that can (I tested) bite through steel, every documented member of The Pack is exceptionally friendly, and can be easily pleased with treats (even though they can’t always eat them).

Lewis’ hair flared up for a moment in surprise,  but he quickly combed it down, and smiled.

Vivi giggled, and gave the smooch-giver a quick little peck of her own.

Arthur covered his face with his hands, but wasn’t completely able to hide the smile on his face.

Mystery wagged his tail, though he didn’t lift his head from his paws. The heating vent was too warm to move from.

Gawain froze up like a deer in headlights, and slowly faded out of sight.

Callahan made a show of rolling his eyes, but the air around him began to feel a little warmer.

Dulce made a few unintelligible sounds of happiness, and covered her skull. All thirty-eight of her cats promptly began meowing for their own individual turn for affection.

Vivi’s Research Notes: The Parasitic Nature of the Undead [Part 1]

A human and their soul work much like a battery with a solar charger: The body (the charger) allows the soul (the battery) to replenish itself when its energy has run low, and without the charger, the battery will run out and die….without a body, the soul has no way to naturally regenerate its power.

This is why most spirits only survive a short time in the mortal plane, if they do not immediately cross over - their spirit energy runs out, and they fade away.

Some ghosts may learn to pull energy from other sources to prolong their existence, though not all spirits can.

The easiest form of energy for spirits to siphon is heat energy, which explains why one of the most common signs of a ghost visitation is ‘cold spots’.

The second easiest is electricity, which, again, explains why electronics and batteries often ‘die’ on hot spot investigations.

Presumably, a ghost can absorb any type of energy to use as ‘fuel’, but other types (light, nuclear, ect.) have not been tested.

Only the strongest spirits can naturally replenish their own energy without needing to siphon from another source.

Revenants are spirits that have regained the ability to generate their own spirit power, possibly due to their anchor items acting as a stand-in ‘body’ to house their soul.

Lesser spirits often attach themselves to Revenants and siphon off excess spirit energy - this is why nearly every known Revenant has a small collection of ‘minion spirits’ in their care (i.e.: Lewis and the Deadbeats, Gawain and the Reptilitones, Callahan and The Pack, Dulce and her Kittybeats, etc.).

Father Thomas is the only known Revenant we’ve met who does not seem to have a gaggle of spirits under his command…when asked, he assured me that he had ‘assistance’, but would not elaborate.
