Bonus Airheaded S/O Headcannons: Kite (Hunter x Hunter)

The amount of heart attacks you give this poor man.

Honestly, he worries about you more than anything 

Please stop trying to pet every apex predator you come across. 

No, he doesn't want a closer look, so put that thing down.

Wait, why the hell is it following you around now!?!? No you cannot keep it!!!

He's not a fan of the effort it takes to keep you out of trouble. If he hadn't known you as long as he did, he would have left you to fend for yourself like a certain ruins hunter.

But the fact of the matter is he has a soft spot for you. Which is constantly exploited thanks to your naivety.

You're constantly eating poisoned berries on surveys.

And he's distressed.

Having to pry open your mouth like a dog who refuses to let go of what it has.

“Spit it out! Spit it out! It's bad for you! Hey! Don't run away!!!”

Squishing your cheeks together once he caught up to you and having to give your jaw a shake to get them out.

He makes sure to count them top, just to make sure you spit all of them out.

He babies you only when you're not out on an important job.

Otherwise, he expects you to take care of yourself. You should be plenty capable if you made it this far, and he can't afford to get sidetracked by your antics.

But when the job is more lax and less dangerous, he's putting 110% to keep you out of trouble.

“Kite I think I got bit by something,” you informed, gesturing towards your back 

And he's sure it can't be that bad, right?

Wrong.

Dead wrong.

There's a gigantic pustule and he's biting back the response of, “You're gonna die.” Instead, making you drink what he hopes is the right antidote.

You somehow got separated from him?

He's using his en to search for you. Ripping you a new one once he finds you.

“I told you not to wander off. Now look at you. All scuffed up. You should be lucky I have antiseptic to clean you up.”

He's panicking inside though. He makes it a point to put a tracker on your phone from then on. 

You broke your arm climbing to get something?

He's making you a splint and taking you back to camp. You're done for the day. Scratch that, he's sending you home.

Kite’s soft spot for you stems from knowing you since you were kids. Going back to his days in the sewer.

You'd stumbled your way in there one day and the rest was history.

He had barely come back from a food run to see you playing around with the dogs. 

Lifting them up and letting them lick your face before flipping another one over to rub its belly.

He immediately asked you to leave.

This was his home after all, he was not about to share it.

But instead of getting defensive, you pouted at him.

“No fair. You're hogging all the dogs in town. Share some with the rest of us, will ya?”

And before he could respond, his stomach growled. You looked at him with a thoughtful expression. (One of the few times he's ever seen you think.)

“I can bring food if you let me stay. Other supplies too,” you offered before gesturing behind you.

“I think that one's about to have puppies.”

So against his better judgment, Kite let you stay.

You kept your promise the next day. Coming back bruised up beyond belief. A shiner around your eye that he couldn't help but feel bad about.

Yet despite that, the small bag of food you brought was unharmed.

“I tried to get enough for everybody. Well, everybody except me. I can go another day without eating.”

He thinks you're an idiot for not wanting to feed yourself. Preparing to eat what you brought, and catching sight of your black eye once more.

He knows he shouldn't care. He's only known you for a day. You were practically a stranger.

Yet he's splitting up his portion and offering one half to you.

He’s sure to follow you the next day. Wanting to know just what the hell was your deal.

He saw you swindle a medicine bottle. Then some fruits. Then a loaf of bread. And before you could take anything else, you were caught.

Sprinting as fast as you could away with three men hot on your trail.

He knew how this ended. They'd catch you and you'd lose most of what you had.

But something unexpected happened. You turned around to pursue your attackers. Setting off your haul to the side as they caught up to you.

He was shocked to see you give them hell. Fending them off despite your hunger-panged form.

Biting, kicking, and scratching until you won.

He'd already made up his mind about you when you came back.

“I'll go with you from now on.” He explained.

“But the deal was I'd get the food?”

“Not anymore. We'll go together, okay?”

And when you two started learning nen, he realized just how strong you really were.

You knocked him flat out with your aura output the first time you tried ren.

He awoke to your concerned face and Ging's amused expression.

“This one's a little monster. They'll pass the hunter's exam with ease. Well, the physical aspect of it anyways.”

Your bond was something he wouldn't trade for the world, despite the trouble you put him through.

Where one went, the other wasn't too far behind.

You did everything together.

Lived together.

Hell, you even showered together from time to time.

There was nothing that needed to be said. He was yours the same way you were his.

Something everyone could see.

Kite has the tendency to be blunt. Often calling you out on your stupidity without restraint.

“You're so stupid, I'm not even sure there's a brain up there.”

“You’re an absolute fool. It's a surprise you've made it this far.”

But don't get it twisted. He's putty in your hands. Cooing sweet nicknames when you've been on your best behavior.

He'll call you: love/lovely, sweetheart, hun, and darling.

Jealousy? He's been with you so long that the thought doesn't even cross his mind.

You're so entwined in each other's lives, he can't see you returning someone else's advancements.

Not like they would be able to get through your head anyways.

But he does worry he'll be too blunt with you one day.

Say something he absolutely does not mean and have you leave because of it.

He's protective of you to a fault. Even though he knows you're more than capable of handling your own battles.

He just worries your naivety will get you in trouble one day.

It's a subtle form of protection though. Standing in front of you or pulling you back from danger.

Kite's patience allows him to put up with you perfectly, although he can't deny a part of him finds your ignorance endearing.

Ngl I will say I do understand why people focus on Stans emotions more than Kyles when they're separated (because he acts a lot angstier about it and also probably has attachment issues stemming from his parents relationship issues with one another, affecting his relationships with others like his friends) but I also don't like how some people downplay kyles feelings or act like he doesn't care AT ALL - or that he's completely fine and dandy without stan, or heck, even doing better without him (I've actually seen people say that!) primarily because In You're Getting Old he was seen happily playing video games with Cartman while Stan was sitting alone depressed in the playground.

But that is not the case!!

(and it's not as if Kyle didn't care about Stan in ass You're Getting Old, he just didn't want to let go off positivity and Stan's depression was making him depressed, and so when they broke it off he probably wanted to distract himself or upkeep a positive attitude.)

Kyle cares about him too! !! He may express it differently, but !!

Like this is Kyle when they're apart

(In TFBW when Stan / Toolshed implied they can't be together as a team (because they're separated into coon and friends & freedom pals))

In "guitar queer-o" when Stan and Kyle sort of break up (he's playing a sad song as well)(and when somewhat confronted about it he leaves instantly to go get a fresca to drink)

He's moping around, drinking, even though he acts real angry n upset at Stan he obviously misses him a whole lot, though when comforted with it he sort of avoids it?/denies it

And when Stan walks in on him playing he angrily turns away. That's just how he is. And when Stan tries talking to him kyles obviously upset and angry at him . Because he cared but Stan messed it up.

This part of Stan's apology is what gets Kyle to start thinking

Again might not be as bad as stan who gets drunk as well or depressed when kyle does so much as make tiktoks with someone else, but he cares, he loves his super best friend and doesn't like being apart from him. He may not need him as much as stan needs him but he still needs him, and loves him and misses him a whole lot, even when he acts like he's fine without him, or pushing him away, they love each other , I can't believe some people don't understand this

So if any of y'all want to write style break up fics and have it be canon-compliant/in character please keep this in mind!!!

(sorry I just saw one post implying Kyle doesn't give a shit about Stan so I got angry)

Hmm I’ve had ocs in the past and I’ve wondered why I picked and chose favorites among the cast I made and I thjnk for the ones I didn’t gaf about it was because I was forcing myself to make characters filling space because I thought it would make my story look more complete but it just ended up I neglected those ocs because I found nothing about them fun or compelling to spend time on.

With casey I’ve definitely gone full self indulgence which was probably helped by the fact her concept was literally based on a joke self insert character so the fuel for me spending time with her was my intense fixation on booster gold and how much I wanted to destroy hurt kill bite kill punch to death kick kill him 😀

Make things fun for yourself! Don’t shy away from making things that you know you’re already crazy for … I’m not shy about saying casey as a concept is a culmination of a LOT of favorite characters I’ve had in the past like peridot (su), the invader zim and tak storyline, Daffy Duck .. to name a few!

And I spent a long time perfecting her design so that it was fun to draw for me …. I made her a secretary/office lady type character cuz um. I THINK THEYRE HOT? LOL … and I really like that fashion style I draw her in. So she’s almost like a mannequin for me to draw clothes I really like aesthetically. so I really have a lot of fun drawing her ^_^ you can tell by how much I do it LOL

So my number 1 advice in conceptualizing ocs is to make things fun for yourself. Are your favorite charaxters always mad scientists.. you can make one. Do you think rubber aprons are hot. You can give them one. Have you been struggling with your gender identity. You can make your oc a girl with he him probouns. Do you wish columbo was a lesbian.. you can make it happen.

As for development, as soon as I got the basic deets for casey and her role in the story I had for her to paper I found one of those tumbrl oc ask games and just filled out every single question for her. A lot of stuff was made up on the spot but just felt right and most often stuck that way but there’s no shame in making little changes as your oc grows on you and you get better aquatinted with eachother. For example I had the idea initially casey would have rich/well off and well meaning parents who were extremely normal and loved her a lot and it would be kind of a meet the robinsons “THEY ALL HATED ME” dynamic. But I quickly changed it as I thought more about casey because what I have with her and spider feels more.. fitting.

It also helps a ton if you have a friend willing to lend an ear :) and I don’t mean just 50+ messages discord chats (because those are extremely enlightening too) but I mean just posting and posting and posting about your little guy and getting those precious 4 likes on your lore document. I always take this sort of approach with original stuff LOL IF I POST ABOUT CASEY LIKE A LUNATIC FOREVER EVENTUALLY ILL TRICK EVERYONE INTO THINKING THEYRE CASEY FANS…!!!
