You sat on the edge of a rock, listening to the ocean waves crash in and drawback.

It was very calming. You breathed in slowly.

The sun is blazing high in the sky. Ordinarily, the heat would bother you however, the waves would occasionally splash up against the rocks and you would get hit with the mist.

It wasn't much, and you weren't soaked, thankfully.

You weren't at all bothered by the mist; you preferred the solitude of the rocks. No one dared to try to cross them to reach you. It was amazing how you had managed to get there without breaking or twisting an ankle.

It was the same place you always visited, to avoid the people on the beach.

Despite wanting to be alone, people always flocked to you. The rocks were your only safety and your only protection from the crowd.

Being on the rocks kept people away and people would grow bored with your lack of attention to them and leave.

You watched the seagulls diving into the water, snatching the fish that dared to leave the safety of the water.

You watched as the sea began to part and a blue-gray man walked out.

The sea crashed and yet he floated above the water.

It was as if he were standing on something in the water. As far as you knew, humans couldn't float waist high above deep water.

Yet, he was.

Completely shirtless, the water at his waist.

Moving around as he moved closer to you.

"Are you a merperson?" He asked as you looked at him.

He had gills on his shoulders, markings under his eyes resembling gills, and dark blue hair laying flat against his wet head.

His eyes were white and his teeth were sharp, almost as if the man were a shark.

He was very muscular, and he put a hand on the rock, his nails a polished purple. He hoisted himself up over the rocks and sat down near you.

You watched as his muscles tensed and relaxed from the weight and relaxed from the lifting.

"No, I'm not." You finally answered.

"Oh, well, you're quite beautiful."

"Thank you. I'm Y/N."

"Kisame. Nice to meet you."

"Same to you."

"What are you doing here?"

"I come here often, just to relax, to be away from people. If I may ask, what are you?"

"I've never seen you here before. I'm a human. However, my clan carries shark-like features."

"Oh, that's cool."

He smiled as he watched the waves splashing back and forth.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. Where are you from?"

"The Hidden Mist Village." He sighed as he looked at you. "I'm sorry, but I have to go. Would you like to meet somewhere tomorrow?"

"Sure, where at?"

"Here, or maybe a restaurant? You pick."

You turned your gaze away from him to watch the waves, taking a moment to think about what you wanted. A date or a friend.

"A restaurant is fine." You said, as you looked at him.

"I'll see you tomorrow at the noodle shop?"

"Yes."

"Have a good day." He said, as he smiled and gave a small wave.

"You too." You responded, waving and smiling back.

Title: Born Under Punches

Summary:

Team Gai have been sent on a mission to track down the mysterious Akatsuki member who's been whisking away jinchūriki with terrifying efficiency. When a clue left behind at the site of the Ichibi’s capture leads them to Amegakure, Lee must put aside any distractions to do one thing: complete the mission - even if those distractions include rescuing his missing team and the mysterious boy he keeps running into around the city.

After months and months, the first chap of BUP is finally here! This was written for GaaLee WIPYHO 2023 and will be updated fortnightly!

Day one - prompt: blue lips, blue veins.

WC: 517 / Warnings: none / Pairing: Kisame x Itachi.

Kisame watches as water drips down Itachi's back. His fingers itch, almost ache to follow the lines all the way down to the slim waist and  even lower, the parts of him that the water in the natural pool are hiding.

He knows he shouldn't look. Not like this, with a hunger that he's sure Itachi could feel even if he wasn't a shinobi. He was supposed to be standing guard while Itachi bathed in the small lake, paying attention to their surroundings, ready to defend him against potential enemies. It was unnecessary because Itachi could very well defend himself against pretty much anyone, but Kisame still worries. Itachi is sick and he won't do anything about it and won't let Kisame do anything either.

He offered to search for a medic, to research available medicine. He would have offered to quit Akatsuki completely and make a deal with the Leaf Kage, Tsunade Senju, rumored to be the best medic-nin in the world if he knew for sure she would be able to heal Itachi (and as a second thought, kidnapping the Hokage did cross his mind, but he didn't have enough manpower to contain and force a sannin to do his bidding, so he tossed the idea as quickly as it came).

But he held his tongue because he knew Itachi would dismiss his efforts. He was on a track to die by his brother's hand and probably thought being sick was a divine punishment. It also worked to Sasuke's advantage. Kisame didn't know what level of power Sasuke had, but Itachi was labeled a genius and it wasn't for nothing. He was extremely powerful and skilled. Maybe Sasuke was on his level or close to it, but Kisame doubted. He didn't like to think about him anyway. Sasuke meant Itachi's death. It was enough to make Kisame actively block the younger Uchiha from mind.

No, he prefers to think of Itachi bathing, enjoying the cool water running down his body. He prefers to think of the hint of smile that decorates his face when he has some dango and the relaxation in his posture when he drinks his favorite tea.

He looks at him again and is shocked to see Itachi looking back. More than that, he's facing Kisame, his pale skin wet and glistening in the soft light. Kisame couldn't avert his eyes even under torture. Itachi looks almost ethereal, unreal, almost like a siren designed specifically to tempt him. 

He watches as Itachi raises his hand and beckons him closer. Kisame is powerless to resist. He watches, incredulous, his own hand touch Itachi's skin, sees his fingers against his palm, admires as goosebumps run up Itachi's arm as the tip of his fingers touch the soft skin on his wrist. 

Kisame can see his veins, blue-green under the pale skin. The sight is irresistible, for some reason. He pulls Itachi closer, pulls his arm up and kisses the soft skin lightly. He hears the smaller man gasp and kisses Itachi's wrist again. In the soft light of dawn, blue lips meet blue veins.

It is possible Mods missed some ships. We are not perfect. If we did, we’ll hopefully catch it for next year, but as of now we’re not checking any further.

Starting next year, our criteria for rarepairs will change. For the 2024 event, a rarepair will be any ship that has less than 500 fics in the Naruto AO3. This change is not in effect for this year.

Fandom Year in Review (2022)

It’s the very last day of 2022, and that means it’s time for a little look back at my fandom year in writing (and podficcing, events, etc.) once again! Then I’ll get back to writing before midnight, along with setting some goals and plans for 2023, of course. ;)

I posted 163 new stories to AO3 this year!

(Startlingly, as I had entirely forgotten, I also posted exactly 163 new stories to AO3 in 2021! o.o)

Those 163 stories were for 17 fandoms, 3 of them new for me to be posting for, and 50 ships! (18 of those ships were new.)

I posted a total of 377,979 words to AO3 this year!

I participated in 8 fandom events, with a total of 73 stories! Those events include:

Iruka Winter Bingo 2021-2022 (server event, @the-umino-hours) the Three Sentence Ficathon, over on Dreamwidth (moving to its own community for next year!) @harunosakuraweek @domaystic @badthingshappenbingo, which I will continue working on my board for @kakashiweek @whumptober, for which I wrote only minifics this year NejiHina Week (run by @nejihinata)

. . .and that’s my look back at my year in fandom (on AO3, at least)! I tried out some new things, fell into some very unexpected new things, rediscovered fondness for some old ones, and had a lot of fun!

!Kisame Week 2023 PSA! Rule Addendum

We usually re-use the same rules for Kisame Week every year, but this year, with the recent release of AI art/fic, we feel the need for an addendum to the rules.

I apologize getting this out so late, with only a week left until Kisame Week, but I kind of forgot that this should be explicitly stated.

We here at Kisame's Corner do not tolerate AI art/fic of any kind.

What do we mean by AI art/fic? Basically, if you use an AI bot to create your art and/or your fic. Using AI for ideas is okay, however your creations must be your own. This references our rule that says reposts are okay so long as you have the explicit permission of the original poster. Since it is nearly impossible to get explicit permission from the original artists whose art is fed into AI bots, and original fic writers who've had their stories scraped, we have decided that all AI work is prohibited. We repeat, all creations must be your own or you must have explicit permission to post them.

The rules will be updated throughout the day on their original posts, but we wanted to post this as a rule explicitly so folks are aware.

Help us celebrate everyone's favorite sharkman during his birthday weekend! For the weekend of March 18th (March 17-March 19th) we will be throwing him a birthday bash and would like to invite everyone to join in! Participation is optional with no sign-ups required

Event Info/Rules

All works must be Kisame focused (and by this we mean Kisame must be a main character, but he does not need to be the POV holder)

All pairings are welcome

All types of works are accepted

Works do not need to include a pairing

There is no limit to how much/how little you can do! Whatever you want to do to participate is great! :)

You can merge works with other events so long as it is within the other event's rules as well

All NSFW/Dark content is allowed but must be tagged clearly and have warnings. Anything with sensitive content must be behind a cut. If things are not tagged correctly and clearly, we will not reblog your submission

When posting, please be sure to tag us in the body of the post so we can easily find it! We will also be following the tag #Kisame Birthday Bash 2023

We will not be accepting early submissions, however late submissions will be accepted until the 31st of March

If you have read the above info/rules and find we haven't answered a question of yours, then please send us a message or an ask and we will let you know!

We do not tolerate the bashing of ships or characters. Not every ship is everyone's cup of tea, but this event is for ALL Kisame pairings so we ask that everyone is respectful of others and their preferences.

It's that time of year, and by that time of year we mean it's time to start getting ready for Kisame Week again!

Unfortunately, the mods have been incredibly busy this year, so we aren't able to get Kisame Week at the ready in time for shark week. So how about we all just pretend that shark week is the same week it was in 2021? That sounds good to us 😎🦈

And as always, everyone is allowed to submit prompt ideas to be voted on, regardless of whether or not you're in the Kisame's Corner discord server. So without much more dawdling, here is your prompt submission form.
