A hand rests on the nearest tree , steadying himself after days worth of travel. The groaning and grumbling from the undead army is starting to make his head ache - even more so than the complaints he had to deal with from Richard before. Galavant straightens himself , a hand pinching the bridge of his nose as a few of the undead walk straight into a river that he swears wasn't there two seconds ago.

❛ Alright , ❜ Though he hasn't really gotten a hang of the whole " commanding them " thing , at least they stop when he does. ❛ I think we've gone far enough. Let's . . . stop here for now. ❜ While his yearning for Isabella is strong enough to keep him moving for another week , he knows full well that he can't go it alone. . . No matter how much he's insisted that he does. He would've really preferred that , actually.

But still , there's a part of him that enjoys the company. He makes his way to close the distance between them. ❛ How are you faring ? ❜ He asks , maybe trying a little too hard to seem detached and yet still caring. Warnings: None at all. This series encompass mainly romance, fluff, angst.

Summary: A Princess embroiled in an arranged betrothal to the most feared General Aleksander Kirigan, the leader of the Second Army in Ravka. Would this be a mere political alliance or something more than it meets the eye?

Bonus: I couldn’t stop listening to the soundtrack while writing this chapter.

General Kirigan stood skimming the map of Ravka which was laid down on an enormous table that ran almost half of the space in the room, immersed in his thoughts. The sound of firewood crackling is the only thing that could be heard in his dark-lit war room. The room was cramped with cabinets loaded with maps, artifacts, paintings, books and whatnot. Beside him was his untouched Kvas, in front of him, on the wall was a black banner showcasing his coat of arms, embellished with glittering intricate silver details, which depicted the Sun in Eclipse but not a single star was there to adorn it.

He had found his Sun Summoner whom he had been looking for centuries after making many endeavors. He had made sure to keep an eye on her every step of the way because he wanted to make sure nothing goes awry so that everything could be executed according to his whims and fancies.

His eyes rested upon the banner of his symbol for a while. “It feels empty and lonely, just as my soul”, He thought to himself. He was too adamant to admit that he was lonely in this world after spending centuries on his own.

General Kirigan’s train of thoughts was interrupted by subdued knock on the door.

“What is it, Ivan?”, the General asked in his husky voice.

“The King’s brother, Prince Richard is here for an audience with you, General”, Ivan replied. He was one of the General’s Oprichniki and most trusted soldiers.

General Kirigan knew why the Prince requested an audience with him that evening. Few weeks ago, the King himself communicated to him about his betrothal to the Princess Y/N, which was indeed considered as an emblematic union that benefited both parties by the King and his advisers with the intention of bolstering the alliance between the Grisha and the people of Ravka. Even though, the General didn’t have a speck of an hope to get married, it was not his position to defy the King. Whether he wanted or not, he was deprived of any choice but to concede.

“Ah yes. I was informed about this meeting. Don’t keep him waiting, Ivan.” said the General while fixing up his kefta.

Ivan opened the door for the Prince to enter.

“Moi tsarevich, it’s an honor to have you in my chambers.” The General bowed to the Prince.

“It’s pleasure meeting you, General. I wanted to meet you myself here because of the gravity of the matter I intend to discuss with you.” The Prince said glancing at Ivan.

“Ivan, you may wait outside” Ivan bowed to the General and the Prince and took his leave, closing the doors behind him.

“A glass of Kvas for you, moi tsarevich. Let me send a word to the kitchen to bring some refreshments for you” The General offered a glass of Kvas to the Prince.

“Thank you, General. No need for other refreshments. Let me cut to the chase.” The Prince uttered with a grave expression on his face. “ I hope you’re aware that my daughter will return to the Grand Palace on the day of the Winter Fete.”

“Yes. The King informed me about her arrival few days before” The General nodded in agreement.

“There’s something about her that others are not aware of, specially the Royal Family which puts her safety at peril” The Prince muttered, turning towards the General.

The General furrowed his brows. “ What is it, moi tsarevich? If it concerns her safety, it must be a grave matter.” Anything that would put his prospective bride’s life in harm’s way, would affect him as well, at least remotely.

The Prince stared at the fireside for a while, swirling the glass of Kvas. “This is a secret that should be kept between us, General. Otherwise, the Princess’s life will be at an immense stake”

“I give you my word, moi tsarevich. You have always been an ally and a pillar of support of Grisha.” General bobbed his head respectfully.

Your father had been supportive of Grisha in many respects for many years. He always believed that they should live in harmony without being downtrodden or marginalized. As a matter fact, he had played a integral role in holding discussions with the Fjeardan government on behalf of the royal family of Ravka regarding the Grisha held in custody at the Ice Court of Fjearda and even gone out of his way to help them escape from the Fjeardans. Therefore, your father was a well-respected royal by Grisha. You, his only child, well, there’s a saying that an Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

“ I trust you, General and you’re her fiancé. It is the reason for me to have this conversation with you” The Prince stepped closer to the General. “My daughter, Y/N is capable of wielding the powers of Small Science”

The General was astounded by what the Prince just said. He found himself dumbstruck for a moment as a pin-drop silence loomed over the room for a minute or two. He couldn’t believe his own ears for moment. A Grisha in the Royal family was such a rare occurrence. It had never been known for Grisha to have a Royal descent; A Grisha Princess.

“You mean, she is a Grisha, moi tsarevich?” General Kirigan broke the silence. There was a scintilla of uncertainty in his voice. “Was she tested when she was little?” The members of the royal family were hardly tested by Grisha examiners as the chances of a Royal being a Grisha was minimal. Until this moment, it was reckoned null.

“No. We got to know it few years ago, before she was sent to Ketterdam” The Prince added. “Now that she will be here, I want to ensure that her life is not at stake. I have heard many rumors about attempts to kidnap the Sun Summoner.” He paused for a while before uttering what he really wanted to say. “You will not, by any means, use her as one of your Grisha soldiers, General.” It sounded more as if the Prince was commanding the General, rather than engaging in a typical conversation between soon-to-be father in law and his son in law. “It will only transpire more chaos than what our family already has”

“You have my word, moi tsarevich. I’ll personally see to her safety concerns. She’ll be safer here than being at her home. Don’t worry” The General’s assuring words appeased the Prince’s doubts about your safety to some extent. “As far as this alliance goes, I don’t intend to make her one of the soldiers.” Besides, his focus was mainly centered on Alina Starkov in that period of time.

“It’s a relief to hear those words from you” The Prince placed his hand on the General’s shoulder. “Thank you, General Kirigan. From the day of Winter Fete onwards, she will be one of your prioritized responsibilities, in addition to, leading the Second Army of course” The Prince chuckled, looking at the war table which denoted the current positions of the army encampments.

“It’s my honor and duty to you” The General said reassuringly.

“Then I must take my leave, General Kirigan” The Prince walked toward the door with the General to his left side.

“ Looking forward to meeting the Princess, moi tsarevich” General Kirigan paused for a while. “Before you leave, do you know what order she belongs to ?”

The Prince turned back to face the General.

“An etherealki, technically.”

General Kirigan’s eyes gleamed as a smile settled on his lips.

The General sat on the edge of his war table after the Prince left. A prickle of excitement went through his skin, engulfed with impatience to meet the Princess. He was never fond of this alliance, until he heard the word that you were a Grisha, just like him which piqued his enthusiasm to see you and get to know you. The crowning glory was he was the first to know and nobody else in the Royal family knew about it. At least, he knew he didn’t despise the idea of being introduced to you.

There’s not any dull moment nor rest where youth and pleasure meet.

The timing of Richard Eden's massive attack on the dumb prince just now, and almost at the same moment the announcement of the Harkles shock interview with Jane Pauley, the first big TV interview since their Oprah Lie-Fest.I'm really interested in these two things happening at almost exactly the same time; a really severe attack on the idiot prince by Richard Eden for Harry using Her Majesty QEII to get what he wants, and the announcement of Jane Pauley interview.I think its fair to say all we sinners are much more sophisticated and educated now about how the media works, and the timing of annoucements, and general attempts to manage, manipulate and spin stores.This latest piece by Richard Eden is the most out-there he has been in critisizing the idiot prince. He obviously feels he has licence to do so now, because while normally critical of the wicked duo, he is usually quite restrained and understated, gently suggesting possible opinions people might have about them.Sounds to me like someone in the RF has given Richard Eden the go-ahead to take off the gloves. The idiot prince trying to use Her Majesty QEII for his own ends, exploting her good name and legacy to get what he wants, when she is not in a position to defend herself, may just have been the final straw for The King. Claiming that HMQEII is supporting the idiot prince, looking down on him from heaven and approving his conduct which has been publicly and relentlessly critical of The King, and telling Harry to "see it through to the end" is tastless, vile and exploitative behaviour by the idiot prince.And Eden has taken his criticism to a new intensity, acknowledging the grief Harry caused the dying Monarch, by just coming right out and saying "Shame on Harry for now trying to use the memory of a grandmother he did so much to hurt in her final years.".The unexpected announcement that the Harkles are talking to Jane Pauley smells to me of the wicked duo trying to get ahead of negative news. Forget all the nonsense about their so-called anti-bullying campaign. They are doing the interview because they want to get a message out.Could it be that they have been told by the RF of changes to their status, of the loss of some of their prestige or titles, or some other final action by The King, and they are trying to get ahead of the story, by making the announcement themselves as though it has been their decision? As in, we have decided to relinquish our titles, or we have decided to break all contact with the royal family, or Harry and the two doll-children are relinquishing their place in the line of succession?Harry made those comments about HMQEII one week ago (last Thursday), and there may have been immediate consequences behnd the scenes for the wicked-duo, which saw them making a quick decision to arrange the Jane Pauley interview to try to spin any forthcoming negative annoucement about them by the PalaceJust seems to me that Richard Edens story is laying some useful PR groundwork, finally calling out in no uncertain terms Harry's shocking behaviour, and helping to justify action by the RF to punish or finally cut-off the Harkles.The idiot Prince has exploited, used and abused William's good name, that of Catherine, Camilla, and The King. Maybe going after The King's late mother HMQEII was too much for Charles, and he has finally had enough.Am I wrong? The flak reiterates that Middleton, 42, is “doing well.”

ET Online: Earlier this week when it was revealed William would be missing his godfather’s memorial service, the Palace told ET that Kate, who underwent abdominal surgery in January, continues to be “doing well.” But with the speculation only intensifying, the Palace released another statement to ET on Thursday.  

“We gave guidance two days ago that the Princess of Wales continues to be doing well,” the statement reads. “As we have been clear since our initial statement in January, we shall not be providing a running commentary or providing daily updates.”

Tom Sykes of The Daily Beast: A former royal staffer who still has friends and contacts inside the palace said, “Anyone who expects the palace to suddenly start giving lengthy updates on Kate will be disappointed. The principal aim of her being sequestered is to guard her privacy. I’m sure the press hate it because it is working. There is a really, really small bubble of people who know exactly what is going on.”

Prince William visited a central London synagogue, where Kate had been scheduled to visit on Holocaust Remembrance Day (27 Jan 2024).

Jan Moir on Prince William: One day soon he will be the head of the nation, a focus for national identity, unity and pride. So maybe he should stop behaving like a celebrity flake and reign in that impervious attitude along with his indulgent fondness for obsessive secrecy. If this is a sign of what is to come when he ascends the throne, it is very worrying one.

Tom Bower says Kate’s condition is more serious than has been reported previously.

The Rules

1: unless tagged #spoilers, any novel I post will not contain plot spoilers but may contain vibe spoilers or allusion to events; I may talk about what the story is About that the dust jacket or my own synopsis may not make obvious but I won't tell you who killed somebody or a cool twist

2: I'd I post a book here it is because I finished it and liked it, OR I finished it and need to untangle why I didn't. Novels I simply don't enjoy I don't finish anymore, as a rule, but I may break it if something about it compels me to finish it. I've only had to do it twice in the last year, but both novels were so antithetical to my enjoyment that it made me actually feel mad about trying to read them.

3: I'm not gonna rate them. I don't like ratings systems, I'm not gonna try to hammer something into a number, and forcing it is just going to be dumb. I did think about making a 7 point criteria list that if a novel met it I would declare perfect, but that's too much work. Maybe in a lull of books or something I'll hammer one out. If I do, one point will be "did it contain a character wielding a sword flicking the blood from their blade before sheathing it?"

4: no rereads. I have a bad habit of returning to old books series when I have so many books that interest me that I'd like to break, so for 2024 unless I need to for something wild like a series entry I'm not expecting, no rereads.

5: There's gonna be some nonfiction in here. I've got a couple of things at the top of my to-read list that are political or social in nature, but if you're following me or reading these you probably can attune yourself to my political stances to know what's up pretty quickly. That said, I'm gonna talk about social shit occasionally even outside of those, so idk if that's a big deal but, yknow.

Best of 2024 - Films

Strange year behind us, I watched move TV than ever, but visited the cinema at least once a month too (3x in January). The only thing I regret, that I haven't cried more and louder when All of us Strangers ended. Still couldn't re-watch it and since then I just can't listen Frankie's The Power of Love. I just can't.

Stand By Me (1986)

(SHORT ESSAY)

The movie I watched this week would be Stand By Me. Starring the likes of Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, Kiefer Sutherland, and Richard Dreyfuss. The film was released August 22, 1986 and directed by Rob Reiner who also directed such films as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, as well as an adaptation of another Stephen King Novel known as Misery. The reason I chose this movie is because it happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time and every time I watch it I'm always reminded of the good times I used to have with my friends throughout my childhood.

Regarding the numbers at the box office, Stand By Me had a decent budget of 8 billion dollars for 1986 standards. It also made $52,287,414 domestically and only $1,236 internationally. Making a total worldwide budget of $52,288,650. While the opening weekend for this film was 0.5% of total gross, it also did rather poorly with their DVD sales with only $1,431,608 in total DVD sales (link for more details). The film was critically successful with positive ratings such as an 8.1/10 on IMDb, a 92% for rotten tomatoes, and a Metacritic rating of 75%. Regardless of the poor DVD sales as well as the poor international sales, this film has been deemed successful by fans and critics alike. Not to mention it made more money than the film's budget. One review that I found would be from The New York Times which says "Some 15-year-olds may well enjoy this tale about some 12-year-olds, so parents will have to decide how much they are willing to endure for their kids." I think this quote from the review means that certain age groups will have a deeper understanding of the movie once they watch it (link for the full review).

The movie begins with the narrator named Gordie Lachance who happens to be grown up in this scene and is reflecting on the summer of 1959 when he was only 12 years old, living in a small town in Oregon known as Castle Rock. Soon after we meet his friends named Teddy Duchamp and Chris Chambers playing poker in their clubhouse until another friend named Vern Tessio shows up and asks their friends if they can camp out for a sleepover when it turns out that they’re going to look for a dead body and they go on a 3 day hike to search for him, Vern found out about the body when he overheard a conversation about a missing kid named Ray Brower. The reason the kids are looking for the body is so that they become famous, however there’s a gang of bullies that also want to search for the missing kid and become famous as well (link for synopsis).

While the plot of the movie is a bit dark and depressing, I do personally think that it is good for establishing an emotional coming of age story, after all this movie is based on the novel by Stephen King entitled The Body. Despite the movie being R rated, I do think that the director wanted to target the movie to a certain age group who will deeply understand the movie (as I mentioned above). I also have to mention, the movie also has some really impactful scenes that people can somewhat relate to. Especially the ending where they mention how we have to say goodbye to our childhood (see clip below), you can tell that this has left an emotional impact on a lot of people who watched this movie, me included.

One of the limiting factors that I can think of for this film would be the R rating and how it limited most viewers under the age of 17 from seeing this movie when it first came out. By today's standards, this is still regarded as an all time classic and is also still being favored by fans and critics alike.

Although this film falls into the category of being conventional, there is one scene of the film that would be considered unconventional by some viewers. What happens in the scene is that Gordie tells a story about an obese kid looking to get revenge on the people that made fun of him because of his weight, and the kid gets revenge by entering a pie eating contest and creating what is known as a "Barf-o-rama" which involves him making the other contestants vomit as well as the attendees at the contest by vomiting on another contestant after drinking castor oil and eating a raw egg, as well as 5 blueberry pies. The reason why this would be considered unconventional is because the talk about vomit being used in a silly story that was thought up by a twelve year old, as well as being humor targeted towards middle school aged kids.

Overall, I have noticed a few personal things when rewatching this movie. Even though I have rewatched it a few times from when I last saw it at the age of 12, it would emotionally impact me more each time I would watch it, cause a lot of people can relate to not seeing their friends again after their childhood ends. For me personally, I can somewhat relate because I also have had many friends come in and out of my life.
