Dias 11 a 23

Eu sei, já não escrevo aqui há séculos, mas a vontade tem sido pouca e este já é o segundo rascunho que faço - o primeiro já estava longo e perdi-o totalmente por problemas de wifi. Portanto, um disclaimer - este não vai sair tão bem como a sua primeira versão, mais que não seja pela irritação inerente a ter perdido tudo.

Dizia qualquer coisa como aqui vai um esforço à memória a médio prazo para vos descrever as aventuras da 2ª parte da viagem continental no Oeste dos EUA mas agora será um esforço também à memória a curto prazo do que tinha para lá escrito - um esforço inteiramente dedicado aos 4 fiéis leitores que pediram insistentemente mais um post, este é para vocês (vocês sabem quem são).

O Hawaii ficará para um último post, escrito pelo Kiko, que está a dormir e não pode dizer que não concorda.

LAS VEGAS

Vegas, o que dizer deste parque de diversões para adultos no meio do deserto?

É que é mesmo isso, nada faz adivinhar depois de andar quilómetros e quilómetros desde o Zion até Vegas, em que o cenário é uma auto-estrada com uma faixa única em cada sentido e deserto árido à volta, que exista, de repente, uma cidade daquele nível ali.

Assim do nada, começam fileiras de resorts interligados (e por resorts entenda-se hotel-casino-centro comercial-sala de espectáculos tudo do mesmo espaço), néons, luzes, réplicas miniaturas da Estátua da Liberdade, da Torre Eiffel e dos canais de Veneza com a suas gôndolas, fontes dançantes, rodas-gigantes, cartazes a anunciar concertos, espectáculos, promoções, the world's best mind reader (come find out and be amazed), clubes de strip, palmeiras, multidões, enfim, uma verdadeira loucura.

Vegas é verdadeiramente uma cidade de extravagância e opulência que não deixa ninguém indiferente - you either love it or you hate it.

E é incrível como os filmes nos deixam ideias tão exactas do que se passa lá dentro: o gingão com uma babe de cada lado a pedir que lhe soprem os dados para dar sorte, a amizade transitória entre apostadores e com o dealer se o jogo tiver a correr bem, a intensidade do ambiente em mesas de blackjack e poker com high bids, a população maioritariamente feminina, obesa, de meia-idade que habita a zona das slot machines que enquanto seguram o cigarro numa mão, a outra toca insistentemente no botão de forma passiva sem acreditar muito num destino de fortuna, a free-booze enquanto jogas, as massajadoras ambulantes que prolongam o bem-estar de quem está a jogar, winner winner chicken dinner. Enfim um ambiente contagiante que te impulsiona a jogar e a ficar com um saldo negativo de 60 paus (o Kiko muito surpreendido com o azar, eu preocupada cada vez que ele punha outra nota de 20, a conclusão que com tanta sorte ao amor, era impossível termos no jogo também).

Embarrassed to say it mas ficamos no Trump International, onde conseguimos um upgrade grátis para um quarto num piso mais alto com vista para toda a strip porque o ciganinho conseguiu rejeitar dois quartos prévios alegando um cheiro esquisito.

Jantámos no Hells Kitchen - parte II do meu presente de 32 anos para o Kiko, arranjada à pressão depois da reacção à viagem de helicópetro- e tenho a dizer que belíssimo bife Wellington tava uma verdadeira delícia. No entanto, é capaz de ter sido o restaurante com pior acústica de sempre que já fomos, às tantas desistimos de falar um com o outro tal era o barulho dos outros, para poupar as nossas gargantas - ai ai Gordon isto não passava no Kitchen Nightmares.

Fomos ver o 69º espectáculo da residência da Katy Perry em Las Vegas, não porque somos particularmente fãs mas porque os bilhetes para a Adele eram 500 dólares. E foi um espectáculo muito divertido, ela é super engraçada, meio quirky e interage imenso com o público e sempre que fazia cenas estranhas dizia "think, you could be at Adele's right now"

Na cidade do pecado e do vale-tudo, na qual existe um restaurante que à entrada tem uma balança porque as pessoas com mais de 156 kg comem sem pagar e tem um cartaz que orgulhosamente diz que já morreram pessoas ali de enfarte durante a refeição, não há como não admirar os contrastes de me ter sido pedido o BI quando pedi um sugar free redbull num bar (para combater a falta de cafeína do café americano deslavado, volta Nespressoo).

DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Acho que o nome diz tudo, mas assim como pedaços de trívia para essas mentes curiosas tenho a oferecer que foi o sítio do mundo onde se registou a temperatura mais alta de sempre  (56.7º) e que é o sítio mais seco da América do Norte.

Uma pesquisa rápida do google sobre o Death Valley sugere: can you survive in Death Valley? for how long can you survive in DV? how many deaths does DV have? and so on.

Nós até tivemos sorte que no dia em que visitámos estavam uns míseros 42º, completamente suportável, ainda que parecia que levávamos como que um estalo de bafo cada vez que saíamos do nosso carro confortavelmente condicionado para visitar. 

São quilómetros e quilómetros em que não se vê vivalma e em que não existe qualquer sinal de rede. Ainda assim é duma incontornável beleza natural e ficámos contentes de adicioná-lo ao repertório de parques naturais que vimos em western USA, todos tão diferentes e todos tão incrivelmente bonitos.

Dias 6 a 10 - Parques naturais do Arizona e Utah

Eu sei, eu sei, passou muito tempo desde a última vez que aqui escrevi e está tudo em pulgas desse lado para uma actualização... Mas nos últimos 5 dias de roadtrip foi difícil parar um bocado para escrever.

Porque assim tem sido, miles and miles a bordo do nosso Honda Accord, estadia de 1 dia num hotel/motel ao longo do caminho e visita a um parque natural por dia, até agora que chegámos a Las Vegas e vamos ter 3 diazinhos para "descansar" na Sin City.

A experiência de andar de carro por estes dois estados é qualquer coisa especial. Não existe um cenário aborrecido, cada um mais surpreendente que o outro, não deixando espaço para o sentimento habitual em viagens de carro (falo por mim) de "are we there yet?".

Sejam os cenários montanhosos, as vistas rochosas de diferentes cores, o deserto à volta de nós com apenas a estrada que fazemos a destoar, com muito mais verde do que seria expectável, a ocasional cidade no caminho tão típica que faz parecer que estamos num filme passado nestas terras com os seus RV parks, as Inns com os néons semi-avariados a anunciar vacancy, casas de madeira com os seus porch swings, a bandeira americana hasteada orgulhosamente em muitos estabelecimentos, as múltiplas lojas de antiques, e até mesmo cidades que parecem que ficaram paradas nos tempos dos westerns com os seus saloons e ranchos com animais. Não há como não admirar tudo o que o está à nossa volta nestes quilómetros e quilómetros percorridos (cerca de 1280 para sermos mais precisos).

E nestas centenas de quilómetros somos como que obrigados a ficar a gostar de country, isto porque em grande parte do trajecto não existe rede (e acesso à net) e as rádios apenas sintonizam uma estação. Tanto que já tinha o marido ao meu lado screaming from the top of his lungs "I only talk to god when I need a favoooor" e eu inicialmente admirada que ele conhecesse a música, dei por mim a concordar com a sua verdade irrefutável que as letras das músicas são muito fáceis de apanhar e às tantas já dava por mim a cantar "A helluva place to lose a cow" e "Yeah, caught in a southern summer, barefoot, blue jean night" como se de hits da minha adolescência se tratassem.

Dia 6 da viagem começou com uma viagem de helicóptero a sobrevoar o Grand Canyon. Para aqueles que não sabem, isto foi um dos meus presentes dos 32 anos do Kiko, sempre naquela tentativa de superação um do outro dos presentes anteriores. Apenas para ser recebido com um franzir da testa, um "epá isto é ganda borra" e uma pesquisa no google segundos depois da oferta - "acidentes de helicóptero no Grand Canyon". Confiante que não tinha falhado redondamente e tranquilizando-o da segurança destas coisas, o receio rapidamente foi-se assim que aquilo levantou voo e se deslumbrou pelo cenário à nossa volta. Eu não sei se foi por ter uma das 7 maravilhas do mundo natural mesmo debaixo de mim ou se pela música emotiva que eles põem a dar nos nossos headphones durante a viagem, a verdade é que não consegui conter umas lagrimazinhas naquele momento. Definitivamente top 3 dos momentos das nossas vidas testemunhar aquela beleza daquela forma.

De seguida, foi tempo para uma scenic drive chamada Desert View Road, para apreciar o parque, desta vez com os pés bem assentes na terra.

Não há palavras para descrever e as fotografias não lhes fazem jus (e inserir todos os outros clichés que se dizem). Mas a verdade, é que ainda não consigo ultrapassar as linhas direitas, do horizonte e da estratificação nas rochas. É tudo muito direitinho, parece feito à régua, mother nature i see you 👀

Os outros canyons que visitamos foram todos incrivelmente bonitos - não consigo fazer um ranking de qual gostei mais, apesar das inúmeras tentativas do Kiko, que também é grande fã do jogo do "preferias".

Se dúvidas houvesse que já não estávamos em Los Angeles, a comida e a população seriam boas pistas. Sendo uma zona amplamente povoada por Americanos Nativos, existe uma grande cultura e história destes povos que mantêm vivas as suas tradições e costumes e que preservam estes parques naturais com grande cuidado, sobretudo os Navajos pelos sítios onde passámos. A destacar de curiosidades: comemos carne de bisonte, bebemos um batido de sumo de cacto e aprendemos que os Navajo dão muita importância ao seu cabelo - não usam chapéus como a maioria das tribos e só o cortam quando algum ente-querido morre.

E não só de belas paisagens se tem feito a viagem.

Como mulher de um gamer já tive de fazer o frete de ir com ele a um shooting range.

Em Bryce Canyon City assistimos no Ebenezer's Barn&Grill a um espectáculo de Country ao vivo, no qual ficámos sentados numa mesa redonda com residentes do Utah (sinónimo de overweight and blowout hairs) muito simpáticos com quem partilhamos uma refeição e tunes como o clássico Country Roads.

Em St. George tivemos a experiência deliciosa de assistir no Tuacahn Amphitheater (local de espectáculos ao ar livre construído à sombra de falésias de rocha vermelha de 450 metros) ao musical do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, numa produção ao nível de Broadway, verdadeiramente divertida, não queria que terminasse.

E é isto, meus queridos, assim nos despedimos no fim destes dias maravilhosos em Western USA e assim nos sentimos

um cowboy e uma country girl.

Um dos principais trios elétricos da história da música brasileira, o Alucinante 1, pegou estrada, mas dessa vez, o destino não é nenhuma micareta ou Carnaval. O trio deixou o Espírito Santo rumo à cidade de Serrinha, no interior baiano, onde ficará sediado a partir de agora. Isso porque os empresários da banda Chicabana compraram o equipamento e já estão cheios de planos para o “novo filho”. “O Alucinante 1 marca a história de muitos carnavais. Vamos modernizá-lo e ele estará mais próximo dos grandes polos realizadores de micaretas. Nossa intenção é que ele esteja à disposição desses grandes artistas para as próximas festas, ainda este ano”, conta o empresário Lucas Chicabana, um dos sócios da banda, que foi ao Espírito Santo para finalizar o negócio. Nem a Chicabana nem o antigo proprietário, César Castilho, falaram de cifras, mas estima-se que o investimento foi milionário. O primeiro projeto com o novo trio, que passará a se chamar “Bravo”, será o “Bloquinho da Chica”, um bloco puxado por Kiko Chicabana, que percorrerá diversas cidades do Brasil a bordo do trio elétrico. “Estamos muito animados com esse investimento. Estrearemos em breve, com o Bloquinho da Chica, mas temos certeza de que nossos amigos da música também irão utilizar muito nosso trio Bravo por todo o país”, finaliza Lucas. O trio já recebeu os maiores artistas do Brasil. Baianos como Ivete Sangalo, Bell Marques, Léo Santana, Durval Lelys, Tuca Fernandes, entre outros, já tiveram o Alucinante em seus blocos e micaretas. Além dos principais artistas da Bahia, também já recebeu nomes como Henrique e Juliano, Marília Mendonça, Simone e Simaria, Mateus e Kauan, Zé Neto e Cristiano e Maiara e Maraisa. O trio tem 25 metros de comprimento, mais de 55 toneladas de equipamentos de som de última geração e capacidade para receber até 70 convidados na área superior com conforto; além de contar com dois elevadores laterais, que se abrem como palcos, para que os artistas estejam bem próximos ao público.
