Team Lakay, for those not in the know, is a team based out of the Philippines. When ONE Championship (then ONE FC) first popped up and was focused on raising the profile of SE Asian MMA talent, Team Lakay’s fighters were some of the first to make a big splash. Guys like Eduard Folayang, Honario Bonario, Geje Eustaquio, and Kevin Belingon (and later Joshua Pacio) were synonymous with early ONE cards. They won titles and were a huge part of the early success of the company. They went to the Philippines for their 5th ever event and apparently drew in over 12,000 people.
All that said many of the original members have left the gym relatively recently and it seems like MMA in the country has stilted. Now we have a reason as to why that might be.

ONE Championship Signs Second Team Lakay Athlete In Two-Week Span
Tumblr media
Just a few weeks ago, ONE Championship announced the signing of Jhanlo Sangiao, the prodigal son of Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao.
This week, the martial arts organization picked up another rising star from the fabled stable – Jeremy “The Juggernaut” Pacatiw.
“I know this is God’s plan. This is the perfect time for me to join ONE,” Pacatiw said.
“When coach Mark told me that I will be signed, I was very excited and happy. But I was also nervous because I know that in ONE Championship, I’ll be fighting against high-caliber athletes. There’s also pressure because I’m a part of a well-known team like Team Lakay.
“But I handle it through maintaining my focus on the path I want to go to so that I can achieve my goals. My seniors have also reminded me to [work] double-time and focus on my training because this is already a big organization and I’ll be facing a lot of high-caliber opponents. So, I really have to train hard.”
Pacatiw’s background, like many of his teammates, lies in wushu. But he also possesses ground skills after competing in mixed martial arts since 2015.
He joins ONE Championship with a 10-4 professional record, having won four of his last five bouts. And while he's yet to compete on the global stage, he’s tested himself in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.
"The Juggernaut" will compete in ONE Championship’s bantamweight mixed martial arts division alongside his teammates Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, Sangiao, and former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon.
“My short-term goal is to gain the hearts of the fans and give them a good fight,” Pacatiw added.
“I want my debut to be an impressive win and I need to work to be able to reach my goals.”

Joshua Pacio vs Yosuke Saruta - ONE: Roots of Honor
Since its earliest days, ONE Championship has been a major home for Filipino MMA fighters. The country’s biggest MMA gym Team Lakay has had major success inside the promotion for most of its run. Fighters from the gym like Eduard Folayang, Honorio Banario, Kevin Belingon, Geje Eustaquio, and Joshua Pacio (20-3) have all held gold for the promotion.
Joshua Pacio, however is the last man standing for the Philippines. He is Lakay’s last remaining champ and arguably its most successful having 5 title fight wins on his resume.
The ONE Strawweight champion is set to defend his belt at home, in the Philippines this Saturday (Dec 3) as he is set to face off with American wrestler and UFC veteran Jarred Brooks (19-2). That fight is the main event of ONE 164.

What’s At Stake For Kevin Belingon, John Lineker At ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III?
Tumblr media
The first two events of ONE Championship’s INSIDE THE MATRIX series delivered fireworks.
Now, the promotion is set to ignite the martial arts world with the third installment, ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, which was previously recorded at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and airs this Friday, 13 November.
All the athletes competing on this card have a lot on the line, but two men will throw down with the hopes of cementing their spot as the top-ranked bantamweight contender.
Former ONE Bantamweight World Champion and #1-ranked contender Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon will take on #5-ranked contender John “Hands Of Stone” Lineker in the main event of the evening.
No matter the result, Belingon will extend his record for the most fights in ONE's bantamweight division (19).
Belingon has also recorded the most knockout wins in ONE bantamweight history, and he would extend that all-time mark if he causes "Hands Of Stone" to crumble.
More importantly, “The Silencer” will be aiming to hold down his spot as the division’s #1-ranked contender. Doing so might give him the chance to rematch ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes once again.
Lineker, however, will look to relieve Belingon of his #1-spot and stake his claim to challenge Fernandes for the belt.
But if Lineker wants to enter his name into the record books at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, he’ll need a quick win over the Filipino. To date, the fastest knockout in ONE bantamweight history is six seconds, and the fastest submission is 27 seconds.
Regardless, this main event clash between two hard-hitting bantamweights will surely be entertaining. But who will end the night with their hand raised?
Tune in to the previously recorded ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III to find out.
Catch the action on meWATCH or the ONE Super App at 8:30 p.m. Singapore Standard Time (SGT). Also, Channel 5 will air the event on a next-day delay at 12:30 a.m. SGT on Saturday, 14 November.
