i think when you come down to it Transformers One is just kind of a politically Confused film due to trying to reconcile various different bits of TF canon such as 'Megatron used to be part of an oppressed mining class' with 'the Primes are the good guys' so i think the fact that ppl have got a lot of different things out of it is inevitable

that said, I do think some people are like. glossing over the extent to which D-16 was a bootlicker?

important to remember that even if Sentinel had been telling the absolute truth, the system he was ruling over would still have been wrong and unfair.

Orion Pax doesn't fully understand this prior to the Reveal due to having lived his whole life in said system but he is the one who keeps pointing out that it's not fair that they have to spend their lives working in the mines. when Sentinel proposes using his stunt at the race to improve productivity in the mines he immediately expresses discomfort. meanwhile D-16 is all for it.

D-16's problem with Sentinel is that he lied. following the reveal his dialogue makes it pretty clear that he would have been fine with keeping his head down and working in the mines forever.

after killing Sentinel he declares 'no more false primes' - i think false is the operative word there! he is declaring himself the new leader, he just isn't claiming to be a prime. he's not like Sentinel bcos Sentinel was a liar.

all in all it's like. D-16 is fine with a system where some people have all the power and other people are under the boot and as a result, fine with being the guy wearing the boot.

ofc this is all a bit muddled by the fact that seemingly on Cybertron god is real and the divine right of kings is an actual thing. as i said. politically confused movie.
