WRITEBLR REINTRO – ANN LILLY JOSE
hello there!
following through with my tradition of posting a new writeblr intro every single year, here we go – a brand new reintro where i talk a little bit about myself and my current writing projects. so, here we go, onto all that good stuff!
about me
i'm ann, a twenty-year-old writer from kerala, currently based in kochi
i live with my husband, who is a musician, and lead a very creative life of sorts
i'm an infp, enneagram type 2
i write literary fiction and poetry
i'm a discovery writer and have a thing for sad stories with traumatised characters
i work as a content writer and social media manager for a wedding company
you can find all my published work on my linktree
my aesthetics: wilted flowers, fallen leaves, silhouettes, shadows, gentle friendships, indie music, unplanned trips, birds, fireflies, annotated books, old libraries and buildings, post-colonial literature, voids, romance
my wips
i recently finished a litfic novel called dairy whiskey and am editing it right now, hoping to get it ready for agent submissions in a month or two. i put my heart and soul and blood and bones into it, so if you’d like to dive into the story and read a few excerpts, you can check out the intro here and every other excerpt here!
rock salt is my main wip since finishing dairy whiskey. it is the story of identical twins rain and norah as they move out for college and navigate their lives on their own, which ends up in them growing apart. if you like complicated sibling relationships and the struggles of growing up, you’ll love this book!
i so badly want to start writing it, but i don’t think i’ll be able to until dairy whiskey is in a more secure position. so, there probably won’t be any updates for a few months, but you can read the wip intro here.
this is a gay vignette novel that i started writing back in 2021 as a source of personal joy. this is the story of how a singer-songwriter desperate for normalcy meets a boy with a heart heavy with guilt. this is the story of how they fall in love and it’s honestly quite wholesome <3
i haven’t worked on this book in so long and i’ve been trying to sneak some words in, but it feels like the book needs a fresh start. i don’t know, i just might start it all over again. but until then, here’s an outdated wip intro.
green room is a literary/experimental memoir documenting my teenage years as a writer. it is a deep dive into craft and how it affects life, particularly how it moulds you as a person. i haven’t started drafting this yet, but here’s a wip intro for now.
so, that’s about it!
if you’d like to be pinged when i drop a new publication or a wip update, just send me an ask to be added to my general taglist and i’ll tag you in those posts.
thank you so much for reading. i hope writing has been going well for you. if not, here’s some strength, some kindness, and some caffeine to keep going!
– love, ann.

Floods Wreak Havoc Across Four Continents. (New York Times)
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
Chad. Vietnam. Austria. The American South.
In very disparate regions of the world, extreme rainfall in recent weeks has killed thousands of people, submerged entire towns, set off landslides and left millions without power. It’s a harbinger of the wild weather events that are a hallmark of climate change, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, and it is highlighting the need to urgently adapt, in rich and poor countries alike.
Bursts of extreme rainfall are making both coastal and riverine flooding more dangerous and unpredictable.
“Extreme events are getting stronger everywhere, so we should expect floods to be bigger regardless of where we are,” said Michael Wehner, a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. “There is no question that these kinds of floods all over the world are getting worse.”
Some of the recent deadly floods, like the landslides in Kerala, in southern India, earlier this summer, can be directly attributable to human-induced climate change.
A scientific study, released in August, found that the downpour that caused the landslide was 10 percent heavier because of human-caused climate change.
There are no similar attribution studies yet for the floods of recent weeks. Though some studies are underway, there simply aren’t enough resources to carry out an attribution study for every single event.
Nonetheless, the science is clear: A warmer atmosphere holds more moisture. That can cause bursts of extreme rainfall, on top of other meteorological factors. For instance, Storm Boris, a sluggish, low-pressure system, has dumped five times September’s average rainfall across Europe since the storm began last week. A blast of cold polar air collided with a sweep of warm Mediterranean air dense with water vapor, producing an unusually powerful storm that brought heavy rains and strong winds. As of Wednesday, at least 23 people have died in Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania, according to Reuters.
In the United States, North and South Carolina are being battered this week by equally rare storms. Some areas recorded 18 inches of rain over 12 hours, an amount so statistically rare it’s considered a one-in-a-thousand-year event.
Typhoon Yagi, one of the region’s most powerful storms, brought rain and winds up to 127 miles per hour across northern Vietnam. At least 143 people have died in the aftermath, including 22 who died following a landslide in Lao Cai, a mountainous province bordering China. The storm marched on to Myanmar, killing at least 110 more people in flash floods and landslides.

2009 The year the world Changed
The year 2009 was marked by several remarkable and unexplained phenomena that captured the attention and imagination of people around the world. From the sky to the ground, from the past to the present, these events challenged our perception of reality and raised questions about the nature of the universe we live in. Here are some of the most notable examples of these strange events:
Image : universetoday.com
The Norway Spiral
On the night of December 9, 2009, a spectacular spiral of light appeared in the sky over Norway and Sweden (see above), lasting for about 10 minutes. The spiral consisted of a blue beam of light with a greyish spiral emanating from one end of it. It was visible from hundreds of kilometers away and was witnessed by thousands of people. Some thought it was a UFO, a wormhole, or a sign of the end times. 1
Russian claimed it was a Bulava missile, which malfunctioned and spun out of control, creating the spiral effect. However, some experts and observers rejected this explanation, pointing out the lack of evidence and the unusual features of the phenomenon. 2

The Blood Red Rain of Kerala
Between July and September 2009, several episodes of red-colored rain fell sporadically on the southern Indian state of Kerala, staining clothes and surfaces with a pinkish hue. The rain also had a yellow, green, or black tint at times. 3
As you can image people called it the end of days we clothing especially stained. The inital explanation was that the rain was colored by airborne spores from green algae. However, some researchers pointed out that the spores had unusual properties and could not be identified as any known terrestrial organism. To this day the real reason is unknown. 4

The Mandela Effect
Also In 2009, Fiona Broome, a paranormal consultant, launched a website to document her observation of a phenomenon she called the "Mandela Effect". She noticed that she and many others shared a false memory of former South African president Nelson Mandela dying in prison in the 1980s, when he actually died in 2013. She also found other examples of collective false memories, such as the spelling of the brand name Oscar Mayer, the line “Luke, I am your father” from Star Wars, and the painting of Henry VIII holding a turkey leg. 5
Broome proposed that these false memories were not mistakes, but evidence of parallel realities and alternate timelines. She suggested that some people had somehow shifted from one reality to another, or that the realities had merged or overlapped. She also speculated that the phenomenon was related to quantum physics and the Many-Worlds Interpretation. 6
The Asperatus Cloud
We all take clouds for granted; we see them every day and are used to the patterns of the sky. They are like old friends that, over the years, we come to recognize. But in 2009, a new cloud occurred for the first time. The Cloud Appreciation Society, a group of enthusiasts who admire and study clouds, proposed a new classification of cloud to the official system. The cloud formation, named asperatus (meaning roughened or agitated), was characterized by a dark and turbulent appearance, with undulating waves and ripples.
These days they have become common and have been seen around the world. 8
A Coincidence or a Connection?
What is remarkable about these events is that they all occurred in the same year, 2009, which was also the first year that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, began operating after a failure in 2008. The LHC, located near Geneva, Switzerland, was designed to recreate the conditions of the Big Bang and to test various theories of particle physics. On December 8, 2009, the LHC achieved a world record by colliding particles at an energy of 2.36 trillion electron volts, surpassing the previous records. 9
Could there be a connection between the LHC and the strange events of 2009? Some people have speculated that the LHC could have opened a portal to another dimension, altered the fabric of space-time, or created a mini black hole that swallowed our reality and replaced it with another one. These ideas are mostly based on wild imagination and conspiracy theories, and have no scientific basis or evidence. However, they do reflect the curiosity and wonder that these events have inspired in us, and the possibility that there is more to the universe than we know.
However don't take my word for it, I have included links so that you can conduct your own research. 10

[ad_1] Yere Goud, head coach of Karnataka (PC: KSCA) Bharath Ramaraj in Bengaluru There are those old old Dinah Maria Craik lines that go: “Autumn to winter, winter into spring, spring into summer, summer into fall – so rolls the changing years, and so we change.” Somewhere this quote applies to the present Karnataka Ranji Trophy side. Due to a variety of reasons, the think tank have had to usher in young players this season. So, what does Yere Goud, in his second stint as head coach, say about the state’s rebuilding phase? “See, S Sharath was the wicketkeeper last season, he has moved out,” he told RevSportz. “S Sujay has taken his place. Samarth has also left, Devdutt (Padikkal) has gone for the India A tour, so there is an opportunity for some of the batters. Since we needed quick runs in a rain-curtailed game, we brought in Abhinav Manohar. Yes, it is a transition phase. But everybody is mature enough, and we are not complaining about it.” To add to Karnataka’s woes, Prasidh Krishna is also with the India squad Down Under. Meanwhile, the experienced pacer Vidwath Kaverappa has been laid low by an injury, while Vijaykumar Vyshak is with the Indian set-up for the T20I series against South Africa. Even in the ongoing Ranji Trophy game versus Bengal, Nikin Jose suffered a cut on his forehead while fielding and was replaced by a concussion substitute. There is one more external factor that has acted as a hurdle, the weather, resulting in truncated games versus Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. Karnataka bounced back with a convincing victory over Bihar and currently sit third in their group. “There have been many challenges this season,” said Goud. “One is in terms of the weather, the second is injuries. “Vidwath (Kaverappa) is injured. But whatever we have played this season, there is a sense of positivity in terms of how the team is progressing. Probably from here on, every game is a knockout game for us. We have to do well in the remaining four games if we have to qualify for the semi-finals.” Goud also explained in brief about Kaverappa’s injury. “He has had a shin injury,” he said. “He is with the National Cricket Academy, they are looking after him. Once we get the clearance, we will see.” Over the last decade, history has also not been kind to Karnataka as far as India’s premier first-class competition is concerned. The state has qualified for either the quarterfinals or semi-finals seven times since winning the Ranji Trophy in 2014-15, but they haven’t been able to climb a few more steps of the ladder in order to taste success. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Karnataka vs Bengal, Ranji Trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium (PC: Bharat Ramaraj) Goud, who was previously at the helm of affairs from 2018 to 2022, observed, “See, qualifying is also not easy, every team is looking to win the Ranji Trophy. We have come to the knockouts almost every season. When I was the coach (earlier), we probably lost in the semifinals twice. “Qualifying from the group is always tough. A lot of changes have happened in the last 10 years in terms of the batting unit, a new set of bowlers. The first priority is to qualify. Moving forward, we will see what best we can do this season.” On the brighter side, Karnataka’s age-group teams have been doing well. One of those junior sides – Karnataka Under-23s – emerged triumphant in the CK Nayudu Trophy under the tutelage of Goud. Even in the Maharaja T20 Trophy this year, we witnessed Karnataka’s strength in depth in the junior ranks. “A lot of credit has to go to the boys, the way they performed,” said Goud. “A lot of players from Under-23 have moved in – Aneesh has come into the side as has Smaran. “The Under-19s have won the Cooch Behar trophy, which is also a very good achievement. Karnataka had never won the Under-19 trophy before. That shows the strength of junior cricket. We have a lot of junior cricketers who in 1 or 2 years would (make the) transition to the senior team. That is a good sign for Karnataka.”
Goud, who played for Railways and Karnataka, had an illustrious first-class career. During his time, he played a major role in powering Railways to a couple of Ranji Trophy titles (2001-02 and 2004-05), alongside other domestic tournaments. He was renowned for his ability to lift his game under pressure. Who can forget his 190 out of a total of 356 against Uttar Pradesh in the 2001-02 Ranji Trophy or his 138 in the 2004-05 Ranji final, where he shepherded the tail? When Goud hung up his boots in 2012, Javagal Srinath called him the “Rahul Dravid of the Railways team,” while Anil Kumble remembered an anecdote from the time he was Karnataka’s skipper. “Even as captain, he would stand at silly point and short leg, though many people have a temptation to put a junior cricketer in that position,” said Kumble. In Goud, Karnataka certainly have a mentor who has the quality to chisel out the right path for youngsters, and lay the foundation for the state to hoist the coveted Ranji Trophy again in the near future. In this engaging guide, we’ll explore various types of plywood, their unique uses, and how HJ Trading in Kochi, Kerala, can be your go-to source for quality plywood. Let’s get started!
Structural Plywood: The Backbone of Construction
First up, we have structural plywood. This type is engineered for strength and durability, making it the go-to choice for load-bearing applications. If you’re framing a house or building a deck, structural plywood is what you need. It’s perfect for flooring, roofing, and wall sheathing, ensuring your construction is solid and reliable.
Exterior Plywood: Weather-Resistant Wonder
Next, let’s talk about exterior plywood. This plywood is specifically designed to withstand the elements, which makes it ideal for outdoor applications. Whether you’re working on roofing, siding, or even outdoor furniture, exterior plywood has you covered. Its resistance to moisture and decay ensures it will last through rain and shine.
Marine Plywood: For Water Adventures
Now, if your projects involve water, marine plywood is the star of the show. Crafted to handle high-moisture environments, it’s perfect for boat building and other water-related applications. The waterproof adhesives and quality veneers prevent warping and delamination, so you can trust it to stand up to the challenges of marine environments.
Interior Plywood: Style Meets Functionality
Let’s not forget about interior plywood. This type is all about enhancing your indoor spaces. Whether you’re making cabinetry, furniture, or decorative paneling, interior plywood comes in various grades and finishes to match your style and functional needs. Hardwood Plywood: The Premium Choice

Use it for fine furniture and cabinetry—it’s ideal for projects that require a touch of sophistication and superior structural integrity.
Softwood Plywood: The Cost-Effective Solution
For a more budget-friendly option, softwood plywood is your best bet. Constructed from softwood veneers, it works well for both structural and non-structural applications. This type provides cost-effective solutions for subflooring, sheathing, and concrete formwork, making it a practical choice for various construction needs.
