Counterfetts on Twitter (icon is Isobel from bg3) has a thread about it that also places the Charles business in the timeline in case that’s relevant (personally I only think it is as a comparison of how the royal family usually handles things). It doesn’t cover the more recent stuff though, so I’ll do an overview:
4th March a blurry paparazzi photo of Kate in the car with her mum is released. People use AI to remove the distortion and then make wild claims about it being a double because the AI made it not look like her, but that’s just how those enhancement features work. The photos too grainy to glean anything from except that she’s alive and conscious.
5th March the ministry of defence posts that she’s going to attend trooping of the colour in June. This is bizarre because the MoD don’t make those announcements, and it’s a long way off to be announcing that. The announcement is removed the same day.
10th March for Mother’s Day Kensington palace post a photo of Kate with her children, saying it was taken by William. She is not wearing a wedding ring. The photo is pretty obviously photoshopped and several media outlets put a kill notice on it.
11th March Kate tweets from the Kensington palace account that she likes to mess around with photo editing and apologises for the confusion. This is bizarre for several reasons, first that William took the photo but Kate’s taking the blame, and second that it is not in the format of an official announcement which ALL communications from royals or their representatives usually are. A photo of her in the car with William, supposedly on the way to two seperate appointments is released later. She is looking away from the camera and only her profile is visible. It is a BIZARRE photo to pick during this particular moment.
Over the next few days many different news outlets post articles about the marchioness of cholmondeley (pronounced chumly. Somehow) just introducing her out of nowhere. Apparently she is rumoured to be Williams mistress.
Tbh I don’t think there’s anything particularly malicious going on, I think she’s just either gained weight from surgery or had a temporary colostomy bag put in and the royal family is too misogynistic/ableist to let her be photographed like that. I do also think William is cheating on her but that’s just seperate to this whole thing. I think the lack of the wedding ring in the Mother’s Day photo has more to do with generative ai being used than a secret message hinting at divorce.
omg thank you anon.... i expected a link and instead u delivered this info directly into my inbox. #blessed

The Princess of Wales’ Stats - Third Quarter
Due to Catherine’s health issues, we have rarely seen her this year, so this won’t be my usual format. I will, however, cover when we have seen or heard from her:
On July 6th, Catherine posted a rare personal tweet after the retirement of my secret crush British tennis legend Andy Murray at Wimbleon
On July 14th, the Princess of Wales, along with her daughter (Princess Charlotte) and sister (Pippa), attended the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Final. She then presented the trophies to the runner up (Novak Djokovic) and the winner (Carlos Alcaraz)
The following day (July 15th), William and Catherine released a photograph of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis watching the Euro Finals the night before
On August 11th, William and Catherine appeared in a video with British celebrities, sporting legends and also Snoop Dogg to celebrate the success of Team GB at the Olympics
William, Catherine and their children were spotted at the Gone Wild Festival, which ran from August 10th-11th
On August 24th, William and Catherine posted a personal good luck message to Paralympics GB on Twitter
The next day, the Wales family were seen driving to church in Balmoral
On September 9th, Kensington Palace released a video, made by Will Warr, and an accompanying statement from Catherine. The video showed Catherine and her family, while the statement confirmed the end of her chemotherapy and explained she will now continue to recover
A press story appeared on September 12th which suggested William and Catherine had watched George take his first flying lesson at the end of the summer
On September 18th, the Princess of Wales held an Early Years Meeting at Windsor Castle
On September 22nd, William and Catherine were once again spotted driving to church in Balmoral - they were enjoying a weekend in Balmoral without their children
On September 24th, the Princess of Wales held a Meeting at Windsor Castle to discuss her annual christmas concert
On September 26th, Catherine attended a matinee performance of Akram Khan’s Giselle and sent a personal tweet
This equates to three official engagements, one official video statement and four personal social media posts, as well as one photograph of the children. She was also spotted once in August and twice in September.

29 FEBRUARY 2024: Page Six: Kate Middleton’s team is speaking out in light of the conspiracy theories swirling about the Princess of Wales’ whereabouts following her abdominal surgery in January.
“Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates,” her rep tells Page Six exclusively. “That guidance stands.”
The flak reiterates that Middleton, 42, is “doing well.”
ET Online: Earlier this week when it was revealed William would be missing his godfather’s memorial service, the Palace told ET that Kate, who underwent abdominal surgery in January, continues to be “doing well.” But with the speculation only intensifying, the Palace released another statement to ET on Thursday.
“We gave guidance two days ago that the Princess of Wales continues to be doing well,” the statement reads. “As we have been clear since our initial statement in January, we shall not be providing a running commentary or providing daily updates.”
Tom Sykes of The Daily Beast: A former royal staffer who still has friends and contacts inside the palace said, “Anyone who expects the palace to suddenly start giving lengthy updates on Kate will be disappointed. The principal aim of her being sequestered is to guard her privacy. I’m sure the press hate it because it is working. There is a really, really small bubble of people who know exactly what is going on.”
Prince William visited a central London synagogue, where Kate had been scheduled to visit on Holocaust Remembrance Day (27 Jan 2024).
Jan Moir on Prince William: One day soon he will be the head of the nation, a focus for national identity, unity and pride. So maybe he should stop behaving like a celebrity flake and reign in that impervious attitude along with his indulgent fondness for obsessive secrecy. If this is a sign of what is to come when he ascends the throne, it is very worrying one.
Tom Bower says Kate’s condition is more serious than has been reported previously.

What opinion confirmed and yes protect the wales fusion at all costs❤️❤️
my opinion that harry and meghan are telling their own narrative. like the post @willandkate shared a while back shows how kensington palace actively altered software so racist messages couldn't reach their twitter anymore and actively started blocking people. how william publicly spoke out in favor of meghan. how harry was allowed to put a statement to leave meghan alone when they weren't married yet.. etc etc. it just shows they are bitter for one reason or another and they try to twist it to their advantage.
it's okay that they wanted to leave the brf if they wanted another life, that is totally up to them. but don't drag your family through the mud in such an explicitly public way. that's not okay, in any family.

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge say words about de-stigmatizing mental health
March 26, 2021
By Kaiser
Remember how the Duchess of Sussex was in a deep hole of suicidal depression in early 2019, largely because the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are petty, small-minded, jealous dumbasses and they waged a smear campaign against her? Remember how they also refused to help her, claiming it would look bad and, when they knew she was in a bad place, they continued to heap abuse on her? Remember how Meghan was inundated with racism, sexism and lies from Day 1 and how that affected her mental health? Yeah, well William and Kate would like to thank everyone for helping to end mental health stigma.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have recorded a personal ‘thank you message to everyone who has ‘taken action’ through Time to Change’s campaign to end mental health stigma. In the video, which was shared to the Time To Change Twitter and played at a virtual celebratory event today, Prince William, 38, said: ‘We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences and taken action through Time to Change, helping to challenge the stigma which surrounds mental health.’
Speaking from Anmer Hall, Kate Middleton, 39, who donned a black roll-neck and wore her brown hair down, continued: ‘Movements like Time to Change have helped to transform attitudes and encouraged more openness about mental health in schools, communities and the workplace.’
The Duke of Cambridge went on to say how over the past 15 years, Time to Change Champions have ‘inspired and supported thousands of people across the country’ – adding that mental health has ‘at last moved into the mainstream as part of our daily lives.’
While the royal couple expressed a personal thank you to the many people who have inspired a more open culture around mental health, Kate warned that the ‘work isn’t done yet.’
‘We cannot afford to stop here,’ the duchess continued, to which William added: ‘We need to keep talking, keep taking action and continue to stand up to the stigma.’
[From The Daily Mail]
“…Encouraged more openness about mental health in schools, communities and the workplace…” Unless your workplace is Kensington Palace, in which case f–k your mental health, even when you’re pregnant. As I watched the video, it occurred to me that Kate does not even believe a word she’s saying. She knows it’s all a lie. I think she even knows that they sound like massive hypocrites for talking about mental health at this moment, right after they were publicly ethered by Harry and Meghan. OH WELL! And yes, Kate is cosplaying Meghan. Kate copied a look from Meghan from the winter of 2017, in Nottingham.

Emma Raducanu to be personally congratulated by Duchess of Cambridge
Exclusive: Telegraph Sport understands that the Duchess is keen to meet Raducanu in person and commend her for her US Open triumph

The Queen of New York is set to meet the future Queen. Emma Raducanu will be personally congratulated by the Duchess of Cambridge, a keen amateur tennis player who has been closely following the teenager’s astonishing success since her first appearance at Wimbledon.Telegraph Sport understands that the Duchess is keen to meet Raducanu in person and commend her for her hard work and US Open triumph. It is expected that Kensington Palace will arrange a convenient date with Team Raducanu, given the heavy schedules both women now have. The 18-year-old, whose extraordinary victory on Saturday night has made her a global superstar, praised the Duchess during a round of interviews in the US for the flagship morning television programmes.“I'm very very honoured to have received a note from Her Majesty and the Duchess [of Cambridge],” she said in reference to a statement released by the Queen praising her “remarkable achievement” and another posted on Twitter by, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge that said: “Huge congratulations Emma Raducanu… we are all so proud of you.” Underlining her stratospheric rise from A-level student three months ago to Grand Slam winner, Raducanu posed in front of a newly erected Nike billboard of herself on a New York street, posting on Instagram: “Sightseeing in NY. Never thought I would see this… coolest thing.”On Monday night she was expected to attend the Met Gala, the most prestigious high society event in New York, a fundraising event held at the Met Museum that coincides with the city’s fashion week. The event is typically the preserve of Hollywood A-listers and the biggest stars in pop music.Raducanu, if her success continues, threatens to be tennis’s most bankable star for years to come - and the invitation to the Met Gala reinforces that. She told ABC’s Good Morning America that she was enjoying “the best time of my life” and admitted she had still to check her phone for messages, having given it up so as not to distract from her tennis over the course of the tournament. 📷 Emma Raducanu had a busy day in New York She praised her parents - Ian and Renee Raducanu - for giving her the ‘mental strength’ to win through, adding: “My parents played a huge part of my upbringing and they were pretty tough on me when I was young, but it kind of shaped the way I think and now it's helping on the biggest stages in the world and Arthur Ashe stadium when you really need it.”Mr and Mrs Raducanu have not been seen in public since the weekend but have spoken to their daughter by phone. “It was really nice to talk to them after I won. They're just so happy and proud of me. They’re my toughest critics and very, very hard to please, but I got them with this one,” Raducanu added. She told US television audiences she was excited to be taking a replica trophy back home to Bromley in Kent when she finally leaves the US in the coming days. “That's coming with me right by my side,” she said.Raducanu, whose mother was born in China, had been due to fly to Shenyang, a city in north east China, to visit her grandmother but her unexpected run to the final had forced her to cancel.Instead she is expected to return to the UK for a hero’s welcome. It emerged on Monday that Andy Murray, winner of three majors, has been swapping messages with Raducanu during her meteoric rise this summer. The pair had played and trained together in the months prior to her breakthrough at Wimbledon and have become friends. "He is very fond of her and thrilled by her progress," one source close to Britain's two tennis superstars told Telegraph Sport.British fans will have the chance to see Raducanu in action at the Royal Albert Hall in November, an event for retired champions of the game to which the rising star of the women’s game was given an invitation to play.
Here it is!

Inside Duchess Meghan’s Emotional Farewell to Royal Life at a Private Engagement
It was supposed to be a quiet day off in the countryside until my phone went berserk—the staccato buzz I set for palace correspondence almost sending it off the table. “His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle,” the November 27, 2017, email read, followed by a note inviting royal correspondents to join the couple for a special photo call to mark the occasion. A few road rules may have been bent to make the 80-ish mile drive from Oxfordshire to Kensington Palace—in traffic—but it was worth it. Standing by the lily-covered Sunken Pond as Harry shared his joy at finally finding his teammate, it was the perfect start to a chapter that would finally bring the royal family into the 21st century. Over the months and years that followed, I closely shadowed the work of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, getting to know the couple better through their humanitarian endeavors, engagements, and overseas visits. Their high-energy work ethic and passion for social justice attracted a new, more diverse demographic of royal watcher to the scene. As a young(ish), biracial royal correspondent, the change was exciting. And as their popularity grew around the world, so did a new golden era for the House of Windsor. Never did I expect that less than two and half years later I would be standing in one of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace as the Duchess of Sussex emotionally bids much-loved aides farewell, with her flight “home” to Canada leaving in a matter of hours. But then, neither did the couple. After starting the year with a formal proposal to move into part-time working royal roles, and bring some much-needed privacy and safety to their family life, Harry and Meghan’s hopes were quickly dashed by an institution seemingly unable to accept change as a viable option (even though some royals across Europe—and even other members of the British royal family—have succeeded in balancing duties to the crown and individual careers). To say they were crushed is an understatement. It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received as they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily mistruths and hateful commentary. While recent tabloid coverage has made it seem like the Sussexes’ half-in-half-out bid was about wanting it all, the reality was a couple who were left with no other choice but to create their own change after being left to fend for themselves against impossible circumstances—even during her pregnancy. They knew something had to change, but they also didn’t want to stop supporting the queen. One can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if a family member or two had stood up for them during the darkest times. Despite the pain and difficulties behind the scenes, work has continued to be a priority for the duchess, who is excited to be carrying over her four royal patronages into the Sussexes’ new chapter. It’s also the reason why I was at Buckingham Palace's 1844 Room on Monday, having been invited alongside two other journalists to cover Meghan’s final engagement as a senior working royal: meeting 22 students who have received scholarships from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). As their royal patron—a role she took over from the queen in 2019—Meghan will continue to prioritize the organization even after officially stepping back on March 31, especially given her position as the vice president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and a former scholarship student herself. In fact, Meghan’s time at Illinois’s prestigious Northwestern University, where she majored in international relations and theater, is what drew her to the ACU in the first place. “The value and importance of higher education is why it should be accessible to everyone, no matter your background,” she says. For Commonwealth Day, March 9, the ACU brought together some of their brightest minds for a private meeting with the duchess, ahead of their attendance at Westminster Abbey’s Commonwealth Service, where some would bear the flags of their countries. The students are all studying masters or PhDs in the U.K. after receiving scholarships from the ACU’s three programs—Commonwealth Scholars, Chevening Scholars, and the ACU Blue Charter Fellow. “That’s what so powerful,” says Meghan, a long-time champion of the importance of universal access to higher education. “This incredible union and the ability to gain so much knowledge and to be able to take that back home.” Chatting with the scholars, the duchess is eager to hear more about how their studies will contribute to tackling the many challenges our world faces today. As she talks with the students, it becomes clear that she’s already done her research on why each guest was invited. It’s inspiring to seeing someone so prepared for these types of engagements, as opposed to just showing up for the photographs. But Meghan doesn’t know any other way of doing it. “I think it’s so important to actually engage with people,”she explains.“I care about these things!” The ACU has seen over 90,000 scholars come through their administered programs, and those invited to Monday’s meeting represent 11 Commonwealth countries in total. Halima Ali, a lawyer from Kenya who is currently studying for her masters in energy and natural resources law at London’s Queen Mary University, says Meghan’s role as patron is hugely important. “For Commonwealth and also Africa countries,” she says,“to see her, her interest, her participation, means a lot to us.” Meghan seems particularly impressed as she chats with Archana Kaliyaraj Selva Kumar, a chemistry student at Oxford University, who has devoted much of her time to using her research to create a new sustainable energy-storing battery that can help communities back in India without wired power. She is also an advocate for helping more women get into science. “What an incredible role model you are,” Meghan tells her. “And seeing is believing. Others see you and ... seeing someone in that space is so inspiring.” During a conversation with a female PhD student from Kenya, Meghan’s eyes light up when the subject of sustainable travel comes up. “That’s something my husband is incredibly passionate about,” she tells the Sheffield Hallam University student. “During our travels to Botswana and different parts of Africa, we’ve seen the link between tourism and how much money is going outside of the country instead of back to communities. There has to be a symbiotic relationship.” For her own travels with Harry, Meghan prefers to move around in a way that allows them to integrate with the locals. “When we go to Botswana, we grab a backpack and pitch a tent!” Meghan laughs. “It’s not much, but that’s how we like it!” Standing at the side of the room, I spot Secretary General of the ACU Joanna Newman looking on proudly. She came to know the duchess well from their numerous ACU engagements and meetings together, and is excited about their relationship continuing long into the future. “She has been a fantastic amplifier of ACU messages to much broader audiences for us,” she tells me, adding that her patronage has given the ACU coverage in places they could have never reached before, including Harper's BAZAAR. She calls Meghan a powerful spokesperson, recalling how she started public conversations about the lack of Black professors and even period poverty.>“The headlines haven’t been about what our patron is wearing or the official engagement started at this time and ended at that time and there was a cup of tea in the middle, it’s about why we are doing what we do and why ACU exists. She’s been a real champion of the work that universities do.” The ACU meeting came at the end of what Sussex aides have nicknamed a “farewell tour” for Harry and Meghan—a chance to tie up loose ends at the palace while taking on a slew of final royal engagements. The itinerary has been packed, starting when I joined the Duke of Sussex in Edinburgh, Scotland, on February 26 as his sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst, entered its next development phase. The ambitious project will be a key component of the Sussexes’ philanthropic portfolio, and it’s become extremely clear just how important the cause is to Harry, who regularly takes part in meetings behind the scenes. Chatting with him one-on-one recently, I was struck by how knowledgeable he has become in this field; his many trips to Botswana inspired the beginnings of the initiative more than a year ago. As one of the attendees at the Edinburgh work summit whispered to me after his speech, “He’s about to change the game for good.” Reuniting after five days apart, Harry and Meghan’s showstopping arrival at the Endeavour Fund Awards served as a reminder of their ability to command the world’s attention. “Nothing to see here, just Meghan Markle showing the fuck out during her final round of royal duties,” wrote a Twitter user, as the pictures of the couple beaming under their umbrella went viral around the world. Inside the ceremony, the focus was firmly on the veterans being honored, all speaking highly of the duke, or Captain Wales, as he’s better known in the veteran community. It’s that mission to support servicemen and servicewomen that has seen Harry pledge to continue to support the community in his new non-working royal life, not just in the United Kingdom but also in North America too. The first task? Bringing the work of the Endeavour Fund and Invictus Games, both of which he helped establish, closer together. Harry’s lifelong commitment is why Saturday’s Mountbatten Festival of Music was a particularly difficult moment, wearing his Captain General of the Royal Marines uniform for the last time. Giving up his royal duties has resulted in his military honors coming to an end—a particularly tough pill to swallow and something that has been just as difficult for his wife to witness. It is, a source close to the couple tells me, a wound that will take time to heal for Harry. Meghan’s surprise appearance at an East London school for International Women’s Day and more traditional royal engagements such as Harry opening an immersive British motorsport museum alongside Lewis Hamilton (“There's nothing better than officially opening a building that is very much open,” the duke joked about the Silverstone Experience, which first opened its doors in October 2019) that rounded out what has been a roller coaster of a farewell visit for the Sussexes. Getting on with the work has always been what it’s been about for Harry and Meghan, but behind the smiles of the photos has been a vulnerable couple who are still very much hurting. Back at Buckingham Palace, the ACU students now en route to Westminster Abbey and Harry quietly slipping through the door to say hello, the reality—and the emotions—finally set in as I give Meghan a goodbye hug. She’s flying back to Canada on the last commercial flight of the day, eager to be back in Vancouver Island to be there when Archie wakes up. For a couple who only ever wanted to focus on their work and bring good to the world, it seems like an unnecessarily cruel ending to their royal lives. Forced to give up roles they’re incredibly proud of after sacrificing so much to get there. At this point, the grand Drawing Room is almost empty and tears that the duchess had been bravely holding back are free to flow among familiar faces. As she embraces some of the loyal staff she will most likely not see again, I can’t help but feel sad for the dedicated team members whose tireless efforts—to promote the couple’s work, launch landmark projects, and deal with the near-daily crises brought on by tabloid lies—have come to an abrupt end. Compared to other royal households, it was a smaller operation, with less resources than the more sophisticated offices at Clarence House and Kensington Palace, but in the short space of a year since setting up, Team Sussex had become like a family, looking out for the couple as much as they could. While the weeks and months ahead will no doubt present new challenges for the Sussexes, the couple genuinely feel a sense of excitement about what’s to come, which includes the freedom to work at a pace that suits them, no longer weighed down by protocol or threatened by toxic agendas. And while much has been (incorrectly) speculated about specific commercial endeavors they might be taking on, both Harry and Meghan are eager to get stuck into their work, which will still revolve around their humanitarian efforts and helping amplify the voices of young people around the world on a wide gamut of issues. “The terrain may be a little different but their priorities are exactly the same as before,” a well-placed source tells me. “Keeping the family, most importantly Archie, safe is what will make all of this worth it.” (x)

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have abandoned social media and will no longer use platforms such as Twitter or Facebook.
Harry and Meghan, who amassed more than 10 million Instagram followers as working royals, are rejecting social media as part of their new “progressive role” in America. A source close to the couple said they had “no plans” to use social media for their new Archewell Foundation and were “very unlikely” to return to platforms in a personal capacity.
The couple are understood to have become disillusioned by the “hate” they encountered on social media. Meghan has spoken about the “almost unsurvivable” experience of online trolling.

News of their decision emerged after Donald Trump was “permanently suspended” from Twitter on Friday “due to the risk of further incitement of violence”. Michelle Obama tweeted on Thursday that Silicon Valley companies should stop enabling the president’s “monstrous behaviour”.
The decision by the Sussexes, who announced a year ago that they were stepping back from official duties, signals another marked departure from royal life. The Queen, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and other senior royals often use Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to promote their official and charitable work.
Before her marriage to Harry in 2018, Meghan had a prolific social media presence, with 1.9 million followers on Instagram, 350,000 Twitter followers and 800,000 likes on her Facebook page. She also had a lifestyle website and blog, The Tig. The former actress used the sites for her commercial fashion and beauty partnerships, to promote her friends’ businesses, offer food and travel tips and post holiday selfies and pictures from her Toronto home.
Shortly after reports appeared in 2016 that Meghan and Harry were dating, she appeared to tease royal watchers, posting a cryptic image on Instagram of two bananas “spooning” in an embrace, with the caption “Sleep tight xx”.

In April 2019, Harry and Meghan reinvigorated the royal family’s online presence and broke world records when their @sussexroyal Instagram account amassed more than a million followers in under six hours.
Meghan is understood to have had frequent input into the content, which often featured inspirational quotes from the likes of the Dalai Lama and the late American writer and activist Maya Angelou, alongside videos and photographs of the couple’s official engagements.
They stopped posting on the account after the Queen banned them from using “royal” in any of their branding after stepping down from official duties.
Since their move to America, the Sussexes have been increasingly outspoken about the potential pitfalls of social media. Meghan, 39, has spoken about being “the most trolled person in the world”.

On the Teenager Therapy podcast, the duchess said the online abuse she experienced while pregnant with their son, Archie, had left her feeling “isolated” and “othered”.
“I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female,” she said. “Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible — I was on maternity leave or with a baby … If people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging … That’s so big, you can’t even think of what that feels like.”
In early 2019, while the Sussexes still shared Kensington Palace’s social media accounts with the Cambridges, it emerged that Meghan was bombarded with more than 5,000 abusive and racist tweets in two months. The duchess was subjected to threats of violence and even accused of faking her pregnancy.
The abuse directed at Meghan and Kate prompted Buckingham Palace to issue a statement with guidelines for people engaging in their social media feeds, and a warning that inappropriate content could be reported to police.

During a virtual summit for American publication Fortune last year, Meghan said social media users were like “people addicted to drugs”. In an opinion piece for American magazine Fast Company, Harry, 36, who is known to read much of what is written about him online, said: “The digital landscape is unwell.”
Social media, he wrote, had “stoked and created … a crisis of hate, a crisis of health and a crisis of truth”. The couple have backed the Stop Hate for Profit campaign, which called last year for a boycott of Facebook advertising.
Critics have said the decision last week by Twitter and Facebook to suspend Trump’s accounts was hugely significant because it was an acknowledgement that they are media companies rather than techology companies.
Sir Martin Sorrell, founder of FTSE 100 advertising giant WPP, said: “They’re taking responsibility now for their content so it’s opening up that Pandora’s box really.”
Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, called for “robust regulations” to ensure social media companies face “the same scrutiny and obligations as other parts of the media industry”.
He added: “This is not a debate about freedom of speech, it’s about accountability, fairness, and the health of our democracy.”
Lionel Barber, a former Financial Times editor, tweeted: “The Trump Twitter ban and Facebook’s belated clampdown finally settles it: platforms are publishers, with all the responsibilities that come along with that privilege.”

Instead of using social media, Harry and Meghan are poised to continue promoting their work in online video and television appearances, through selected publications and via their Archewell website, which they launched fully on New Year’s Eve. They are also expected to resume more frequent public appearances when the coronavirus pandemic eases.
The website features images of their mothers — the late Diana, Princess of Wales and Doria Ragland — with the catchphrase “Compassion in Action”, alongside details of their multimillion-pound production and podcast deals with the streaming giants Netflix and Spotify.
Their foundation has also formed a partnership with the Centre for Humane Technology, to back research into developing “safer, more compassionate online communities”. A source close to the Sussexes said this will be long-term “area of focus for their work”.

While the Sussexes may no longer use social media to promote themselves or their work, other high-profile figures are likely to continue doing so. The American talk show host Oprah Winfrey, a friend and neighbour of the couple in California who is making a mental health documentary with Harry, took to Instagram last month to promote Clevr Blends, an organic, vegan brand of “wellness lattes”.
The post to her 19.2 million followers, accompanied with a crown emoji, gushed about the “basket of deliciousness” she received from Meghan with the products. Soon after Oprah’s post, Meghan announced that she had invested in the company.

The Princess of Wales’ Stats - First Quarter
Sadly, Catherine hasn't completed any official engagements so far this year as she has been beset by health problems. We have, however, seen or heard from her several times:
On her birthday, Buckingham Palace released an unseen photograph of Catherine from last year's Coronation
From January 17th to 29th, Catherine was in The London Clinic, recovering from serious abdominal surgery
On February 24th, it was confirmed Catherine had a new private secretary - Lieutenant Colonel Tom White
In March, there have been a number of paparazzi photographs of Catherine. The first one was of her in a car on the Windsor estate, accompanied by her mother, Carole (March 4th)
On Mother's Day, Kensington Palace released a photograph of Catherine and her children. The photo was accompanied by a message from Catherine, where she thanked people for their kind thoughts
The following day, Catherine released another statement via social media where she admitted to editing the photograph (taken by William) before publishing it. She was spotted in a car with William the same day - she was heading to a private medical appointment
On March 16th, William and Catherine were seen visiting a farm shop in Windsor. Video from the private visit was published in The Sun on the 18th
On March 22nd, Catherine released a video statement where she confirmed she is retrieving treatment for cancer
The following day, Kesington Palace released a statement thanking people for their well-wishes
This equates to two official photographs and one official video statement, as well as five official written statements (two for the abdominal surgery, two on Twitter, and the final one from KP). In addition, we have seen Catherine in three unofficial photos or videos.

Power Prince
Every-so-often we are reminded of the powerful influence our Royal Family has. From charity work, global events, patronages, to the influential fashion choices. But they also, in times of deep pain and suffering, highlight how an ancient institution can heal wounds.
And once again we saw this process in action after the devastating terror attack in New Zealand. Attending on behalf of the Queen, Prince William highlighted how the Royals can be a force of good, unity and poignant respect. Something the Duke of Cambridge exemplified as he visited the Christchurch community.
It is worth noting that this isn’t the first time William has been entrusted with such a public and important visit as this one. Last year the Prince took on the historic trip to Israel, becoming the first Royal to do so within an official capacity. It was a monumental success, for both the Royals and Prince William.
So, it wasn’t surprising to royal watchers when Kensington Palace announced that William would be representing the Queen in commemorating, both Anzac Day and the horrific terror attacks in Christchurch.
With these trips now a common occurrence in the Duke’s role as ambassador for the Royal Family, what does it tell us about the future of the British Monarchy and their vision for the indelible institution on both the national and international stage?
In recent years many have noted a change in the Duke of Cambridge. Behind-the-scenes courtiers have observed that he has finally accepted the reality of his future. That future, which leads to the “top job”, is looking more and more like a perfect fit for William, as visits like New Zealand become more commonplace.
But whilst the royal side of the Duke of Cambridge is pivotal in visits like this, as we saw in his solemnity at the service to commemorate Anzac Day, it is the other side of the Duke which sets him apart.
Images and video footage quickly emerged across media outlets, as well as Kensington Palace’s Instagram and Twitter accounts. Each one showed a Prince perfectly balancing the art of compassion and stoicism with the utmost ease. Whether it be meeting the First Responders to the attack, the Prime Minister of New Zealand – Jacinda Ardern, or Alen Alsati, a 5-year-old girl injured in the attack, who had only woken from a coma a week before, William’s reaction was befitting of each circumstance.
The video footage of the Duke meeting the aforementioned Alen melted hearts across the globe. Reminiscent of his late-mother, Princess Diana, William sat at the end of her bed. There he chatted animatedly when questioned about his daughter Princess Charlotte. It is these moments which highlight the unique quality the Royal Family possess, yet with William there always seems to be an added magic.
In recent months we have seen criticism of other members of the Royals and how they conduct themselves when partaking in their own engagements. Sometimes the balance between personality and professionalism can become blurred, resulting in a tainting of the royal mystique. This unfortunate behaviour most frequently results in the numerous articles and public attention focusing on the royal individual and not on the subject of their visit.
This is never the case with the Duke of Cambridge. Each and every time he steps out, his attention is consistently focused on the job-in-hand, not himself. Christchurch’s visit has been the embodiment of this. Yes, the Prince hugged numerous worshippers who had been affected by the attack. Yes, he jokingly stated to royal fans that jetlag no longer affects him after having three children. But when the moment arrived for William to step back, and the Duke of Cambridge and future king to take centre stage, it was done with remarkable ease.
What is a credit to William, is that out of all the media coverage that emitted to news outlets across the globe, one moment took the spotlight. It wasn’t that sweet moment with Alen Alsati, or his reference to the long-awaited arrival of his younger brother’s first child. As the Duke stood at the podium, in the same room where fifty innocent Muslim worshippers were brutally murdered, he delivered a speech which many now regard as his best.
Opening with the traditional Maori dialect and the custom Islamic greeting, the Prince went on to passionately deliver an emotional, stoic and stunning speech.
“A terrorist attempted to sow division and hatred in a place that stands for togetherness and selflessness. He thought he could redefine what this space was. I am here to help you show the world that he failed,” William began.
Thanking the emergency services, the Prime Minister and the Al Noor Mosque’s Muslim community, what William did next in this wonderful speech, was to demonstrate that here was a Duke doing it differently. This difference wasn’t for headlines, popularity or praise from social media users. It was for something much more important, unity.
As he continued, there was a genuine tone to his words.: “I have had reasons myself to reflect on grief and sudden pain and loss in my own life. And in my role, I have often seen up close the sorrow of others in moments of tragedy, as I have today.”
“What I have realised is that of course grief can change your outlook. You don’t ever forget the shock, the sadness, and the pain. But I do not believe that grief changes who you are. Grief – if you let it – will reveal who you are.” He added.
Many have speculated whether the Prince was referring to the death of his mother Diana with these words, and it would certainly seem so. But, in credit to William, he doesn’t mention her name. Not out of coldness, but instead to keep the focus on his encouraging and uplifting message. This isn’t about him, Diana, or even the Royal Family. It is about all of us, and how each and every single person at some point faces pain.
This speech reminds you that whilst the Duke of Cambridge is destined for the Throne, his heart is very much with the people. There is an authenticity with William that lacks with many public figures both inside and outside the royal institution. And perhaps, he may not make as many headlines as his brother and sister-in-law. The Press may not pick apart his appearance like they do with his wife Catherine. But William’s global influence runs much deeper. Its impact is a growing flame, not a dowsing inferno.
What we all must remember is that the Duke of Cambridge is reserved a place in history. Hundreds of years from now, every word spoken, every appearance on Buckingham Palace’s balcony, the birth of his children, and every visit to places touched by unimaginable horror, will be recorded for all time. This is a man whose star-power will never fade. It may not be constantly on view, but when it is, it shines brighter than them all.
When William departed New Zealand, no-one was left discussing salacious stories or fictional rumours. No-one cared about speculative feuds or how many followers Kensington Palace’s social media pages had that day.
No. What the people of Christchurch was left with, was the relief that within the most famous family in the land, was a man who would one day become their King, but more importantly, a champion of the people. A Duke who focused on substance and not solely style. A Prince who understood the enduring power of the pubic, and not publicise his power. A future King who accepts the media’s interest and not sycophantically pursue it.
As the future of the Monarchy edges closer, and we see the dynamics of the institution shift focus, the Duke of Cambridge will see his position continue to change. And unlike others within the Royal Family, William’s future has been cemented since birth. His path is already paved, from Kensington Palace to the steps of Buckingham Palace. The media may be focused elsewhere, and perhaps not for the most flattering of reasons.
But with William and his successful visit to New Zealand, he demonstrated why the headlines aren’t always needed to create impactful change. In doing this, our future King is constantly proving that an institution dating back a thousand years, still emits that powerful act of unity. And whilst the prominence of media headlines may inject short-term attention, the love and respect of the people, William will one day reign over, endures for much longer. It is here where William’s royal and public power far outrivals any other.
