it's occurring to me that lan sizhui and xie lian are actually... really similar?

theyre both pragmatic but deeply kindhearted and pleasant people. they're both highly talented and quick-witted cultivators with an internal sarcastic streak that they only really let out when they're under extreme tension, emotional distress, or are helpless to the stupidity of others around them. even when they're angry or visibly frustrated neither of them use foul language. both get embarrassed with public discussions of sexual matters and people prying into their virginity (or in xie lian's case later, his loss of it).

also, albeit for very different reasons, both have plotlines related to amnesia/generally forgetting really important things that happened when they were younger.

CERTAIN people love applying these overly westernized (read: WHITE Americanized***) emo headcanons to teen!Nanami as if he wasn't a JAPANESE teenager that was born in JAPAN to JAPANESE parents (yes his mom is half Danish (which CERTAIN people also love clinging onto that One (1) factoid when whitewashing Nanami to hell and back) that goes to a school in JAPAN and has JAPANESE friends/comrades.

It's just nonstop MCR references when the shit has gotten SOOOOOO fucking old, like WE GET IT. You see one (1) JAPANESE teen with a side bang that's not only appropriate for the time period of early 2000s, but SPECIFICALLY with how a lot of JAPANESE teens wore their hair back then, and diagnose them specifically with WHITE AMERICAN emo traits. You know. The JAPANESE teen named KENTO NANAMI.
