Incomplete detail list of non-protag DA Characters in my brain atm
We already know abt Sulvun Joselan, but he goes on this list. Lonely traveling Keeper+Spirit Healer haunted by spirits that are his friends want to help :) but also some spirits that are not his friends and Want Him :)
Erol Kost, 2nd generation vashoth qunari & mage (?) who just wants to vibe and farm and Yet, the Problems
Cantara, the half-dwarf whose upbringing was essentially all dwarven until their mother's lie was revealed, and they got marked casteless
I've seen a concept floating around of a borderline ghoul Grey Warden, all stark black and white and gleaming eyes and I can't let the idea go. Don't have more abt it atm

To acknowledge my own PCs in this regard: Elias and both of my Hawkes are 47-48, Zarrin is 43, Elrevas is pushing 40 and Theia, as the youngest of the bunch, is 36.
(Sulvun, my non-protag traveling keeper OC is 49)
Veilguard is NINE YEARS after Inquisition. Trespasser was in 9:44 Dragon. so it's 9:53 Dragon. At that point it will have been OVER 20 YEARS since the Warden did their thing. Wow. Wow.

Clan Darish'an had been accommodating of him, but it was time to leave, for clan and lone Keeper both. The humans and their war were coming to a head of sorts to the West, and many clans were anxious for the outcome, whether it would turn on them and their remaining magic.
Sulvun needed to check in on Clan Alerion next anyways. He believed them to be somewhere in the East, but it was hard to be sure. Harder still to make it there safely.
Sulvun's lot in life was never lucky; discovering his magic and fleeing the alienage, joining Clan Joselan despite their wariness of his urban life prior, his training as a traveling Keeper between the clans and the Fifth Blight shortly thereafter, all of this was hard-earned and hard-survived by him alone. He was a bit proud of this, though he rarely considered it, nor could he tell anyone. No one outside the Dalish can know what he does, he is but a lost elf and his twisted branch of a walking stick to mere outsiders.
But the Blight has passed, and the mages and templars are now exhausted from their fighting and are coming to a negotiation at that temple.
The fighting had been awful thus far, leaving its marks of scorches and icicles and dark stains of blood left to soak in dirt. Sulvun looked up from his path and upon the forest below from his place halfway down a mountain pass and recognized all these signs. He sighed to himself, thinking about how much he must weave through.
"Well," He muttered to no one save perhaps any animals that remained in the area, "I can't imagine it can get worse."
A few moments of pleasant silence later, a thunderous crash, a light, and such terrible tearing sounds that Sulvun had never heard before rattled the world. He looked even higher up instead of down, and there in the very sky itself, a sickly green scar.
Fen'harel's ass.
~~~~
Weeks later, perhaps a month or so, and a newly formed Andrastian organization has been claiming its fame amidst the chaos, having the only key to closing rifts in the Veil in the form of their leader. And Sulvun lucky enough to be briefly conscripted by their merry little party for their current mission; an investigation into a mountain cavern Sulvun thought could be a Red Templar hideout. He had found it, reported it to an Inquisition scout for the sake of the safety of a Dalish campsite near the area, and hoped that would be the end of it.
But of course it wasn’t. Because no Creators, no other Gods nor Fate itself liked Sulvun Joselan. Which left him in the company of the Inquisitor, and the Inquisitor's party of a too-flashy Tevinter mage, a chatty dwarf, and a specialized templar of a woman.
They were interesting and capable company, Sulvun would not complain about that, but the last place he wanted to be was anywhere near this entire mess. After surviving the Blight so well in his young adulthood, he was not excited to tempt fate again by being anywhere near the Inquisitor.
Which made the circumstances that much more grating, as several cave ins and run ins with literally blighted templars compounded the group in enclosed spaces.
The woman, Cassandra, was midway through a sentence Sulvun didn't catch the beginning of, only then recognizing the point about to be made.
"--I can't imagine it will get w--"
"Do not finish that sentence."
"--Excuse me?" She sounded vaguely offended and quite dangerous in one tone, and she spun around to look at Sulvun, squinting judgmentally.
"Seeker, with due respect, the last time I spoke those words, a demon-filled tear in the sky happened. It can always get worse, in ways you’ve never imagined."
The Inquisitor snickered from somewhere ahead, which Sulvun took as his own small victory.
#listen I rly like Sulvun and need to establish him#the Inq is kept vague bc I didn't have either of mine in mind per se#though the party lineup is Elrevas's default#anyways Sulvun is just so tired. I'd say someone save him but you'd have to save him from me#Sulvun#Kris writes#DA#fic
#the only three who have names are Veron (reincarnated half-orc druid) Priss (storytelling dragonborn druid) and Juneau #(Juneau is the one on the fence of being a druid or not) #the unnamed two are the druid w/forest cat transformation & a homebrew one that draws from urban scenes instead
Worth saying: Veron is kind of an offshoot of Sulvun, my Dalish Keeper in DA, so he doesn’t quite feel the same as a usual kid of mine, Priss is based off of a Tender D&D twitter prompt, and Juneau is Illegal to talk abt because she might be somewhere in a campaign I do One Day. The urban druid is from MFoV.
Current concepts, which I'll place under a cut for folks Avoiding Spoilers:
Warden: qunari (bc please please please pl) or dwarf (throwback to Elias, my very first DA Protag). I'd love to have other thoughts but all I got is that I want to try and name any of my Rooks like corvid-adjacent names, and that I think the name "Corvus Thorne" slaps
Veil Jumper: tbh I thought abt my traveling Keeper Sulvun being in this Faction and now I can't get it out of my head. even tho I still don't think he's Protagonist Material per se
Shadow Dragons: actually a little sad it's more pinned down by being adopted by a family, but I can understand that choice from a writing standpoint. Still thinking either elf or dwarf
Lords of Fortune: Rivaini elf. I literally had a rough concept of a Rivaini years back and I could place them here. Debating qunari also given their prominence in Rivain tho. hhmmmm
Mourn Watch: considering the story on this one, PLEASE think about a dwarf baby having been left in the Necropolis bc it was the closest their family could get to the Stone/underground. goth dwarf raised by necromancerrrrs.
Antivan Crows: my mind can NOT let go of the concept of a Qunari Crow. just. lil qunari sold into slavery as a novelty and then bought by the Crows for the purposes of Murder.
Learning more abt Rook's faction backgrounds has me wanting to make a Rook for each. Faction. Which is such a dangerous thing.
I never gave Sulvun enough limelight, understated guy he is personality-wise, but after [glances] uh we'll say several years, I love him.
He was born in Orlais, and unfortunately the accent never quite left him. He left the city to join the Dalish when he got his magic. He's got many ear piercings and even some face ones (never decided between labaret or snake bites, hmm). He's so deadpan if a bit grumpy. He's a Traveling Keeper who delivers messages between and guides fellow elves to other clans. He's got vallaslin for Dirthamen, the god of knowledge & secrets, as an almost ironic blessing to his status as a Traveling Keeper. He looks so sleepy and will in fact sleep anywhere. He has actively lived through both the Blight (which happened a few years after he became a Keeper) and the Breach (was on the Orlais-Ferelden border at the time) and Deserves every nap he can get. He's even gay.
Dragon Age Brainrot.
