I decided to start rewatching Vanguard G NEXT because I was feeling a bit nostalgic. And… y’all. I was not prepared for Chrono being this gay about Kazuma. Like, almost immediately.
As in, he had a cardfight with Kazuma one (1) time and Kazuma forfeited at the end. He then proceeds to start doing literally whatever he can just for a rematch. Why do you care this much about fighting him again (to the point of lowkey stalking mind you). Crush behavior.

" Show me the future that you are seeking! "
Does anyone else still like Cardfight Vanguard?? Especially the G series? I drew these a year and a half ago (AmuLuna even has my old user). I still want to draw more as well. My heart will always be with the G cast. Lmk if you also love the G series~

What about Vanguard and Vanguard G for the 'give me a show' meme?
ah yes. the card game anime that got me through high school and college.
Cardfight!! Vanguard (2011-2014)
my favorite female character: MISAKI!!!! MY QUEEN!!!!
my favorite male character: Kaikunsan, even tho he’s a huge emotional liability smh
my favorite book/season/etc: it was the trainwreck of trainwrecks, but Legion Mate hen. KAI TOSHIKI THE ANIME IS A CLASSIC, OK
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): ok aside from any episode that has any kaichi moment ever or any episode where Daigo shows up ever, that episode in Legion Mate hen where Kai helps Naoki remember Aichi and they start Team Mate. UGH. SO GOOD. MY BOYS!!!!
my favorite cast member: basically all of the Team Q4 VA squad. Top-notch group.
my favorite ship: KAICHI KAICHI KAICHI KAICHI
a character I’d die defending: SENDOU AICHI FOR SURE. I would be teleported to the moon for the blueberry. (also catch me takin’ bullets for my French fry son, Olivier Gaillard)
a character I just can’t sympathize with: RAUL SERA CAN BURN IN THE FIRES OF HELL!!!!!
a character I grew to love: Morikawa lmao.
my anti otp: not that I’m like super against it or anything, but MisakixAichi just ain’t my cup of tea
Cardfight!! Vanguard G
my favorite female character: ANJOU TOKOHA!!!!
my favorite male character: my swirly son Shindou Chrono, but my sons Kazuma and Taiyou are extremely close seconds lmao
my favorite book/season/etc: honestly.....all of it after Bukbuk-chan stopped being shady and before CFVG NEXT is my fave lmao.
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): ok but especially that one moment after Shion, Tokoha and friends rescue Chrono from Ryuzu and everyone got so emotional b/c “CHRONO U IDIOT.” like that got me. Team TRY3 is so good.
my favorite cast member: MIYANO MAMORU AND MARK ISHII THO. YES.
my favorite ship: *chanting* KazuChro. KazuChro. KazuChro.
a character I’d die defending: Basically everyone on Team Striders. Confirmed.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: HASHIMA RIN HOLY SHIT. Like, I think there were two episodes total where she didn’t drive me up the wall lmao.
a character I grew to love: Ibuki Kouji. Trying to like him in S1 was rough lmao. after that was ok tho
my anti otp: I DEFINITELY get the appeal and CFVG certainly didn’t try to curb said appeal, but IbuChro. That gap, bruh. It scares me.
#THANKS FAM!!!!#always love talkin' about cardfight~#man i really wanna rewatch cfvg now#but i gotta finish rewatching the first cfv series first tho lmao#natsumi talks cfv#natsumi talks cfvg#authoratmidnight

Through my rewatch of Vanguard G NEXT, I’ve realized that this show is arguably more unhinged and insane when there isn’t outright supernatural stuff influencing the plot. Because in our world things like units from a card game possessing players would be unhinged, but Vanguard is a world where the units come from a real planet that is directly linked by destiny to planet Earth, so fine. Those units affecting the characters is kinda weird, but understandable in context. The same cannot be said for the insane stuff that happens outside of the influence of planet Cray. And no episode makes this more obvious than episode 11 of G NEXT, because this was an unhinged direction for the plot to take this episode (also I will briefly mention Kazuchro because I’m a shipper with zero self control and I saw crumbs so I jumped at them like a shark tasting blood). ok, so the setup for the episode is this; we’re still in the part of the show where characters need to win preliminaries in order to get into the actual U20 tournament. In episode 10, we were at one of those preliminaries, but Kazuma left halfway through a fight with Mamoru because he felt like he was losing (for anyone who doesn’t remember, Kazuma had a bit of a complex about feeling like he was going to lose early in the series. Episode 11 is when he resolves it). So, Chrono goes to confront Kazuma after the event and then calls him out on being scared of losing. They then proceed to punch each other in the face over a fucking card game (while Taiyou is just there watching while telling them to please stop. Child of divorce frfr). Which is honestly so funny to me. Then, come next episode, and we see that Kazuma has refused to show up to a different preliminary event, causing Team Striders to be disqualified. Chrono calls Kazuma to ask where he is, and Kazuma responds, says he’s quitting the team, and hangs up. Chrono runs to find him so they can actually speak face to face. Ok, normal so far. Chrono seems weirdly insistent on having Kazuma remain in the team, but it would admittedly be hard to find a replacement last minute, so fair enough.
this is when things get really weird. So, Chrono goes to a place where he’s pretty sure Kazuma likes hanging out, but as soon as he gets there, he gets hit over the head with a metal bat and knocked out. Why was the main character just the victim of an aggravated assault you may ask? Well, that’s because he was mistaken for Kazuma by the goons of a gangster who was beat the two nobodies from Kazuma’s gang in a card fight and wanted to kidnap Kazuma for… a turf war I guess? TBH I still don’t get why there was a kidnapping, but it happened. You read that right. This show had the main character kidnapped by a legit criminal for reasons unrelated to the actual overarching plot.
Anyways, so Kazuma then finds out Chrono was taken in his place, goes to the abandoned warehouse the criminal gang is using as a base, and then Chrono says his actual name to the criminals (which Kazuma calls out for being stupid) and justifies it by saying that it’s fine as long as Kazuma wins (oh yea, the criminal boss leader man said he’d let them go if Kazuma beat him in a card fight. It is insane how much these people are willing to do through a card game.) That’s right, Chrono, in all his genius, pretty much just made a situation where his life was in greater risk than it was before just to enforce Kazuma’s character arc which like… sir 😭😭😭 that is objectively so dumb. There was no reason for you to tell your name to people who hit you with a metal bat and kidnapped you. Trying to make your crush’s character arc happen is not an excuse you dumb gay bitch (afffectionate)
I know this was basically just a recap of an episode that came out nearly a year ago but I’m just not over the gang war being fought through card games

Souyo, 13 & 14 from the pairing questions, please.
13. How hard is it write/draw your pairing? Scale of 1-10.
Write? 11/10
Draw uhh appearance wise somewhere 4-5(? I don’t think they’re particularly difficult to draw except for:
- yosuke’s hair
- yaso uniform
But that’s just me lacking practice haha
Content wise I think they’re pretty flexible in almost anything so I’m free to explore various concepts. Also I’m familiar w the series so I’ll say 2-3
14. Pairing that can rival to Souyo
what other pairing that I liked so much to the point where I created a blog to post their content hmm
HMM
I mean the problem here isn’t that I don’t have ships but it’s more like my ships are usually not approved by fandom so honestly I can’t create content w/o constantly worrying that I’ll receive backlash :^)
An acceptable ship that I can think of (tho I’ve never really created content for them before):
Kazuma x Chrono (Vanguard G)
A not so accurate tldr of Kazuchro is basically a story of Souji seeing Shadow Yosuke and does whatever he can to make Yosuke be a better person and overcome his shadow
Also helps yosuke try to get his ‘Saki’ (Kazuma’s bro) back
And yosuke is just so damn thankful for him when he’s initially the ungrateful, stubborn and angry person (character!!development!!)
they also have faith in each other when they battle and are there to console/celebrate on their battle results but overall never giving up on each other!!!
now that i ranted about them i should totally remind myself to draw this ship sometime

The Things He’s Given Me
I’m adding to the KazuChro angst party on AO3.
Trigger: Depression
Summary: Just before Gyze takes over, Kazuma reflects on the things that Chrono has given to him.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
All he wanted to do was pay Shindou back.
How did it end up like this?
He remembers it clearly, that dark feeling in the core of his being. He remembers it sucking the colour out of his life, leaving everything gray and uninteresting. He remembers the days where it ruled over him, the way it made everything seem like a waste of time unless there was some benefit.
How boring his life was then.
But what did he have to look forward to? His “friends” didn’t go to his school, his mother was at work, and his brother…
His brother was far better than anything he would ever be and everyone knew it.
Everyone knew it and no one cared if he did too.
After all, what use was the second place when you had the first?
So he was fine with how boring his life was. Really, he was.
Really.
It was a miracle that he had decided to get over everything, really. A one in a million chance. He just wanted to remember what it had felt like to care and not feel so empty inside. Just one last look. So he opened that drawer, the one that he had closed away all those years ago. The one that had made him truly realize how utterly worthless he was in comparison to his brother.
He walked faster to that cardshop than he had to anything in a long time.
He remembers Shindou. Bright and happy Shindou. God he’d never met somebody so bright.
He remembers fighting Shindou. He remembers smiling. He pauses.
When was the last time he did that?
He remembers having fun.
But god, he’s looking at his cards and Shindou’s and knows immediately that he can’t measure up, god why did he ever think he could do this, and he tilts his head up and quits.
Shindou’s face was certainly something.
It’s true, he knows he can’t win and that’s terrifying, but mostly, he’s just scared of what he’s feeling.
They chase him down and ask him to join their team.
It’s annoying, but he’s mostly just confused.
Why are they trying so hard to befriend him?
Him, who’s never good enough.
He tries to cut them off and he can tell that Shindou is upset but it’s easier for him to part on his own terms than for them to kick him out when he inevitably disappoints them.
Of course, Shindou gets kidnapped looking for him, and all he can think is it’s my fault, oh my god, it’s all my fault.
UselessworthlesswasteofspacenotgoodenoughnotgoodenoughNOTGOODENOUGH
He fights and wins and feels something warm blooming in his chest.
Shindou believes in him.
Shindou believes in him.
He wants to cry with relief. Maybe he’s not as useless as he thought.
HOPE.
He fights on Team Striders and wins and loses.
He wins and loses and isn’t immediately swept up into memories of worthlessness.
He feels warm standing next to Shindou and Taiyou.
God, he wants to bask in this warmth forever.
FRIENDS.
He fights his brother.
And loses spectacularly.
Why did he think he could do this?
The sick feeling in his chest is back.
He hears Shindou talking about winning the U20, but there’s a thick fog in his head and he can’t bring himself to focus on what Shindou’s saying.
So he leaves.
He fights his brot—Shiranui again.
He loses, again.
But it’s ok.
Somehow, this time it’s ok.
Maybe it’s because he knows that he fought as best as he could. Maybe it’s because he has Shindou and Taiyou at his back this time. Maybe it’s a million other things, but the only thing he can focus on is that he’s not alone and that’s something he takes comfort in.
Shindou wins, because of course he does. Shindou is strong and brought his brother back and he feels happier than he ever remembers.
FAMILY.
Kazumi instantly knows that he’s doing better than he ever has. He hasn’t had that sick feeling in his chest in a long time.
He smiles and it feels real and genuine.
He has so much to live for.
PEACE.
The enemies are after Shindou. He thinks that maybe he can finally do something back for the boy who gave him everything. He’s just been taking and taking and taking and sometimes, in the darkest corners of his mind, he wonders when Shindou will get sick of him taking advantage like that.
So he tries to be better.
He tries to look for them when they disappear and he tries to protect him from the Apostles when they come looking for him.
He fights Chaos Breaker to keep him away from Shindou and does pretty well. He feels good about this fight.
And then the mark burns itself onto his hand.
Suddenly this fight isn’t just about Shindou. It’s about him too.
He wonders if his life is just a huge joke.
PURPOSE.
The Star Gate Zeroth Dragon comes.
He uses his cards sparingly, guarding for the bare minimum, but it’s all he can do because he has to win this fight.
He can’t afford to lose here.
But Chaos Breaker pulls the trigger it needs and he loses the game and oh god, it’s not enough, why is he never enough?!
He doesn’t want to let Shindou down like this.
He feels Gyze in his body. Black is seeping through his vision and into his soul. Everything is cracking and splintering at the edges and he desperately hangs on to the brittle hope that he’s learned to keep close to him.
Even if you steal my body, there’s no way you’ll never beat him, he vows to the deity taking his body. Right? That’s right, isn’t it, Chrono?
Help me, he screams silently, in the depths of his own mind, just as everything goes blessedly silent.
He feels tired all of a sudden, so he closes his eyes and sleeps.
SALVATION.

chrono for the first character headcanon ask
MY CINNAMON SWIRL SON!!!!!!
Sexuality headcanon: bi!!
Gender headcanon: cis male
a ship I have with said character: KAZUCHRO!!!!!!!!
a BROTP I have with said character: Chrono & Taiyou. I love their dynamic so much. It gives me so much life.
a NOTP I have with said character: not that I’m vehemently against it but IbukixChrono.
a random headcanon: so Chrono has what he thinks are dreams every night, but it turns out he’s actually talking with Chrono Dran.
a general opinion about said character: where do I even begin with this squirt lmao. Honestly, I saw his character design even before G aired and I thought “HE’S ALREADY MY SON!!!!” and I haven’t really looked back since. His growth from the start of G to the end of CFVG Z (when Bushi remembered he HAD character development, anyway) was so touching to watch - from thinking it was better to be alone and not decorating his room to having all these friends and having all kinds of stuff in his room. Just. MY HEART. ;A;;;;
But, I will acknowledge tho that Chrono got more screentime than he really needed tho. Even as I was watching NEXT, I found myself caring more about Taiyou and Kazuma than Chrono lmao.
BUT ALSO, as much as I love the CFV reboot and am glad to see them, I really do miss Chrono and pals. A lot. lmao.

Anyway in case you couldn’t tell, I thoroughly enjoyed a CFVG NEXT episode for once and I feel so alive.
(also I may or may not have become a KazuKumi and even more of a KazuChro shipper after this episode ehe)
Please keep this up, Bushi. Until the end of the season, that is.
