Erlik - mythology and information
Erlik, Erlig, Erlik Khan, Erleg or Yerleg (Hungarian mythology comparable to Ördög) is the deity of death and the underworld, also known as Tamag (hell) in Turkic mythology. Er (or yer) refers to Earth, the depths in which Erlik resides. Erlik summons death, plague, and bad spirits from the underworld to torture humanity and transport their souls to his domain. Tengrism is not founded on a written corpus, but rather on the spiritual experiences of Turkic people, hence there are no universally accepted doctrines among Turkic people. Erlik has previously been referenced in the Orkhon texts and has a persistent role as the lord of the underworld in Turkic belief systems.
Mythology-
In Turkic mythology, Erlik had a role in the genesis of humanity. He slew the messenger-god, Maidere/Maydere, and is a sin-teacher. He is sometimes symbolised by a totemic bear. Erlik was the deity of evil and darkness in Turkic mythology, as well as the king of the underworld and the judge of the dead. Erlik is Ülgen's sibling; both were formed from Kayra (Tengere Kayra Khan). He wants to be equal to Ulgen, so he creates his own land. He was imprisoned in the 9th stratum of the earth and grew antagonistic to the top world, the realm of light. According to the Khakas, Erlik lives in the lowest underworld, in a copper mansion with gold furnishings.
According to Altai folklore, Erlik created the spirits (İye) while still in heaven. When Erlik claimed divinity for himself, he was driven out and descended to earth along with his spirits. Another Altai tale holds that God (Tengri) gave Erlik a hammer and an anvil, but took away his power when Erlik used them to create evil.
According to another mythology, reported by Vasily Radlov, God commanded the first person to plunge into the primordial seas and retrieve a handful of dirt from the sea's bottom. However, the first person wanted to hide some dirt so that he might eventually establish his own planet. But the earth in his mouth increased, so he spit it out. Kayra, who created the universe in this tradition, banished the first human from the celestial realm as a kind of punishment and called him Erlik.
In another story, mankind were immortal before the arrival of Erlik. People and animals overpopulated the earth until a crow proposed bringing Death into it. So people summoned Erlik, and death entered. First, everyone knew when they'd die, so they lived in terror until Tengri concealed their date of death.
Erlik's malevolent spirits inflict misfortune, disease, and death among humans. These ghosts are envisioned as Erlik's helpers. Aside from this, his nine sons and daughters support their father's nefarious intentions. Erlik's daughters, in particular, strive to persuade a shaman to alter his mind as he tries to approach Ulgen with their beauty. Erlik causes all forms of disease and demands sacrifices from the people. If they do not sacrifice to him, he collects the dead remains of those he has slain and transports them to this lower realm, where he makes them his slaves. As a result, when illness strikes, people become afraid of Erlik and make numerous animal sacrifices to him, particularly in the Altai Mountains.
In shaman prayers, Erlik is characterised as a creature with a pig's face and teeth and a human body. Aside from his face, he is an elderly man with a well-built physique, dark eyes, brows, and moustache. According to the Dolgans, Erlik led Mammoths to the underworld. When they attempt to return to the surface, they freeze to death as punishment.
The dinosaur Erlikosaurus is named after him.

Sun, 02nd December - Day 61
Parks, bars and Greek birthdays
Sunday I packed my day with several events. I met with Kayra and Ali in Park Guell for the Bunkers. It was strange at first. Kayra came by himself and it was the first time we met after the awkward situation from Schoko. However, it was nice to hang out again and also nice that this time Ali joined. We strolled around a little bit after sitting on top of one of the stone hills in the park to watch the city. Later that day I met my favorite Greeks. We met in the city center and tried to enter a place where some kind of small event was going on. Confused as I am sometimes, I had suggested an address based on a wrong Google Maps entry and so Andreas found me trying to break through a fence to enter a building which apparently wasn’t to be entered. We decided to search somewhere else and eventually found it. Lucky as we were, we didn’t have to pay entrance for some reason due to missing change. It was a nice small market with stands offering good drinks. We decided to take the glasses with us - as I have this weird urge to steal glasses I like when I am abroad. George and another George (friend of Andreas who was in town to visit him) met up with us afterwards and we went to the bar slash restaurant Khan, which had a very nice atmosphere and celebrated into Andreas’ birthday. Later Andreas and I would forget the glasses we had stolen and even after calling several times in the restaurants and going there to pick them up, they were lost because the waiter on the phone though I was talking about sunglasses rather than drinking glasses which probably had been thrown away shortly after we had left that Sunday.

Turkish Mythological Shamanism.Turkish shamanism initially included gods such as Kayra Khan in a deist manner, then Ulgen, the God of Goodness, and Erlik, the Lord of Evil, as well as many gods and goddesses and spirits serving them. These thoughts appear as a result of compilations made from Turkish societies that have been subjected to external influences for centuries, and have followed the order of Naturism, Animism and Shamanism, taking into account the comparative mythology and anthropology data.

Number 9 and Tarot Cards Symbolism in Shingeki no Kyojin.
In Shingeki no Kyojin myth, it all begins with Ymir Fritz’s contract with the Devil of Earth. After her contract, Ymir Fritz became the first Titan on the face of Earth and with the help of her Titan power, Ymir Fritz and her people defeats the ancient empire of Marley and founds a new empire called Eldia.
After Ymir’s death, her power splits between nine successors.
5th and 9th arebeing naughty and hiding behind speech bubbles, Chapter 86.
In this post, I want to focus why Isayama has choice number 9 and the symbolism behind it.
Warning! Long post!
Let’s take a little look at number 9 symbolism around the world, first. Don’t worry, I’ll keep it short and drop my bomb as soon as possible. If you want, you can skip these parts and straightly jump to the most important part for me, Tarot part, too.
In Norse Myth: I am directly leaving you to trustworthy hands of my friend @egrigore ‘s meta: Nine Worlds: Here! Please check it after you finished mine.
In Ancient Greece: Troy has been sieged for 9 years. In Odessa, Odysseus travelled for 9 years. Herakles, a.k.a Hercules, one of his 12 mission was killing 9 headed beast, Hydra. Persephone stays 3 months with her husband Hades in Underground World and stays 9 months in our world with her mother. There are 9 Muses, also.
In Japanese Myth: Number 9 is pronounced as ku, with the same pronounce with agony or torture. It is an unlucky number. x . Since Isamama likes to mock stereotypes, that might be the actual reason why he has choose 9, but let’s keep going.
In Chinese Myth: Nine ( 九 pinyin jiǔ) is accepted to a lucky number because it sounds same with the word luck (久 pinyin jiǔ) and it is associated with the dragon, which symbolizes power and magic. Dragon has 9 forms which describes 9 attributes and has 9 children.
In Indian Myth: In Yoga, there are 9 doors of human body; two eyes, two ears, the mouth, two nostrils, and the openings for defecation and procreation. Also there are nine Rasa, which if I am understanding it correctly Rasa is some kind of art.
In Christianity: 9 is associated with pain, because Jesus has died at the 9th hour after sunrise. Angels has nine orders, which is a reflection of perfect three, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. 9 comes from 8+1, yeah I am serious, and that represents endless happiness.
In Turkish Myth:
Ancient Turks used to believe in Shamanism, and for them nine was a very important number and it still is. Since I know more about this, I am gonna be garrulous and talk a little more.
For Turks, it all begin with Kayra Khan, son of The First Great God Gök Tengri. I want to point out that like Maria giving birth to Jesus without a father, Gök Tengri created Kayra Khan without a mother. Let’s continue.
So our great and almighty god Kayra Khan was lonely and bored, so he created the Earth, you know just for fun. Then he creates a lot of other stuff but that is one long story for some other day, in the end, a tree grows without any branches or boughs. Kayla thinks, “Hey, that tree is so, so boring!” , I am serious that is exactly what Kayra says in The Creation Myth, so he adds nine branches to that tree. And from that nine branches, nine clans born and they became the ancestors of humanity. Sound familiar?
Turkish of nine is dokuz, which is originated from the verb doğ- which means, being born. Word doğa (nature) also comes from same origin. We people are being born to reach the nine, the greatest wisdom a human can ever reach, if you want to say it in a fancy way.
What happens to our bored god Kayra? He eventually gets bored from people and their sins as well, so he starts to live in seclusion in a place no human can ever reach. He starts to live in 10, the perfect number of gods.
If you want to be a Shaman, a holy man, you have to travel 9 worlds above the ground and 9 worlds under and sacrifice 9 cattle, with a ceremony that lasts in 9 days and with 9 boys and 9 girls by your side. Because 9 is the greatest position a human can reach as a human, and 10 symbolizes the God himself. If you want to be an Ermiş, a.k.a Eren, a.k.a wise man, you have to take a journey to wisdom of 9 and reach your inner wisdom.
If you are having trouble with what I am trying to say, just imagine Dothrakis with the religion of Na’vi or I don’t know... Imagine American Indians!
In Tarot Cards:
Ok, that is the most important part for me. I was searching for which Tarot card reprints number 9, and found out that in Major Arcana, it is The Hermit. But I, a native Turkish speaker, was making my research in Turkish of course and do you want to know what is the Turkish name of The Hermit?
Ermiş, a.k.a,
Eren.
I want to make it clear that they, Eren and Ermiş, came from the same origin, er- verb which means reaching. The name version of er- means great, almighty, and also being used as male leader. The word Eren means: “The one that has reached to wisdom, to inner peace, to wisdom within himself.” . It doesn’t have a religious meaning, it stands for the inner enlightenment. It comes from the time of Shamans, and since they don’t believe in Christianity and Islam, it doesn’t mean “Saint.” either. I don’t know who came up with that, probably Google Translate, but the meaning of the Eren name is closer to Buddhism, not Christianity nor Islam. The meaning of Saint in Turkish is Aziz, if you are wondering.
In The Hermit card, there is an old man with a lantern in his hand, he is looking down and his eyes are close. The Hermit is the ninth stage of Journey of The Hero, a.k.a Joker.
Key words of this card:
Wisdom
Search
Solitude
Observation
Humility
What does this card represents? It represents the search of your own self, a spiritual search to reach wisdom, a search to reach Nine, a search to become an Eren.
"This search is mainly a solitary quest because the answers do not lie in the external world but within us."
With the line of their memories, we know Grisha is talking about the lives of Eren’s predecessors that lies within him, Chapter 10.
“The Hermit card in your reading sometimes shows that there is need for healing and understanding in your life. It is a very personal and spiritual card that shows you that you are not alone right now even if you feel that way.”
Last line reminds me nothing but the paths that connects all Eldians, they are like the branches of same tree and they connect with spiritual bonds. They are not alone, even if they feel so. They are all connectted to same wireless web, to same WIFI. All people of Ymir connects each other and they cross at The Coordinate.
Chapter 88.
“The Hermit walks a fine line. By purposefully choosing to remove himself from society he also runs the risk of being misunderstood and labeled inappropriate. These labels do not concern him as his path of spiritual knowing and higher wisdom are his prime concerns. He walks a lonely road, but he has choose that.”
Doesn’t this reminds you in Answers Guidebook, Isayama revealed that Shiganshina Trio will split their ways eventually? Maybe Eren will choose to go with Zeke, maybe he will hit the roads on his own or maybe The East Sea Clan will finally show their faces and this will play a role? I don’t know, seriously.
But I am certainly sure that there will come a day that our Eren will have to make a choice with no regrets.
Thanks @ningen-suki for translation!
Let’s take a look at this old man’s stuff!
Staff: Appearing as an attribute amongst pilgrims, saints and even priests, the staff is an emblem of power and authority. The staff is in the Hermit's left hand, representing the hand of higher awareness (subconscious mind). In this case the staff represents the Hermit's ability to use his isolation and the knowledge he has gained as a tool upon his path to even higher levels of awareness.
Do I have to remind everyone how ignorant, immature and selfish Eren was? Yeah, he still has some flaws, but he is now aware of what kind of person he is. He has accepted himself, and he is learning from his mistakes. He is taking his way to reach the wisdom within himself.
Chapter 65.
Chapter 66.
Chapter 71.
Chapter 72.
But he has not reach it, yet.
After all the things he has been through, Eren is finally reaching close to his wisdom, he is finally learning and starts to carry the true meaning of his name. He suffered, he has lost, he has been lost but these are his prices to reach that wisdom. That is a part of his journey as The Hermit.
Our old fellow The Hermit carries stands in a snowy ground.
Stance: The Hermit stands upon the precipice of an icy mountain. This symbolizes the heights of his journey, and further intensifies the feeling of his isolation. Mountains typically symbolize achievement, growth, and accomplishment. The symbolism in this case is the Hermit has achieved his goal and he is continuing the path he has chosen, committed to his endeavor of ultimate awareness.
The Hermit has lost, has been lost and suffered during his journey but he also has achieved his goal, taking back Wall Maria and going to basement. By doing so, he has gained a great knowledge.
The truth of this world, the actual origin of Titans, all this war between Marley and Eldia and many more... He and his fellows have made a lot of sacrifice, but in return they gained priceless information.
In the lantern of Hermit’s right hand, there is a David Star.
Star: The star of David shines brightly within his lantern. Biblically, David is means "beloved of God" and so the light from the star symbolizes the light of God. Further inspection of the star reveals that it is comprised of two triangles, one inverted, the other erect. This is a common symbol for male & female, or opposing/balancing energies. In the context of the Hermit, this symbol represents balance, and using the energies together for the purpose of spiritual advancement.
The light of God? Wait a second, this star seems familiar?
Chapter 86.
Chapter 86.
Chapter 88.
That directly connects to The Goddess of Eldians, Ymir Fritz and The Founding Titan. Let’s remember who inherits it right now? Ah, right, Eren. And not just that! He also inherits Shingeki no Kyojin, I hate The Attack Titan name, that means extra knowledge about this world!
Eren not just have thousands of lives and knowledge within himself, but he also has the Founding Titan that was chosen by Goddess Ymir before her death, which can be interpret as the enlightenment of her power and wisdom.
About the second part of The David Star, it representing balance and inner peace, Eren has not reach that, yet. He has not feel balance, yet. He hasn’t reach inner peace, yet. He doesn’t know nor experience his sexuality, yet. But Eren’s journey is also far from over, we still got a long way to go before Eren reaches The Nine, the wisdom.
Also, that can be a foreshadowing to Eren eating all other shifters, I know that is a bad head canon and I also don’t want this to happen, to give rebirth to The God himself, to reach the wisdom of nine and delete the contract that Ymir has made with The Devil, so that he may be able to eradicate all Titans from the face of Earth. But will Eren be able to handle to defeat all other shifters? Will he be able to handle that much power and for what cost is he gonna pay to devour all other shifters? Yeah, for what cost?
Thank you all if you were able to come this long, I am aware that this was a very long post, so sorry for that. Hope you liked it and it has been helpful! I don’t think Isayama has digged this much when he named his main character Eren, though, adsfghg.
Have a nice day!

Ak ana
The Turkic people, as well as the Khanty and Mansi peoples of Siberia, worship the "Holy Mother" as their primordial creator-goddess. She is also known as the Goddess of Water. She was Kayra Han's consort and daughter.
Water existed long before Earth. Thus, she was regarded as Earth's elder sister. Water was the source of the Earth's creation.[1] Tengri (God) Kaira Khan, according to old Turkic beliefs, is a clean, white goose that ceaselessly hovers over an unending stretch of water (time). However, before Ak-Ana comes to encourage Kaira Khan to create,[2] he feels a disruption in his serenity. A "sacred duck" named Lura pulled the sand, clay, and silt from the bottom of the water, resulting in the formation of Earth. Everything in existence started out as water. Water produced an equal number of alien and hostile components. It was the owner of spirits and the portal to the other realm. The Ak Ana determined the life, fertility, and production of the land.
Ak Ana means "White Mother," with "white" meaning white and "mother" meaning mother, reflecting her role as the Mother deity who willed and encouraged Ülgen to create everything. She began the life cycle by instilling spirit in everything. In Turkic mythology, water existed before everything else was formed. Ak Ana came from the sea and instructed Ülgen three times: "Create." Her body is formed of light, and her antlers symbolise her strength. Her tail is comparable to that of a mermaid, and she is accompanied by starfish.
She is claimed to reside in Akdeniz (the Mediterranean Sea), and in some traditions, she rises from the sea as a deer. The Ak/white in her name symbolises purity and water.
Element: Water
Animal: Deer and starfish
Colour: White
Crystals: Those associated with the sea like aquamarine, beach stones, pearls and probably sea shells could work.
Incense: Sea and ocean scents
+ Candles are great too since she is a being of pure light.

Mergen info & mythology
sorry this one is short! - trying to find as much information as I can
if anyone can add to it, feel free to reblogg with more info! - lets help expand each others knowledge
A Turkic god of wealth and intelligence. Mergen is commonly shown with a bow and arrow in one hand. Other significant emblems include a white horse and the colour white. He is related with profundity and shown as a mighty god. Mergen is Kayra's[1][2] son and Ulgan's sibling. He dwells on the seventh floor of the sky. He was represented as a young guy on a white horse, with a helmet and a bow. Mergen represents intelligence and thinking.
He is quick-witted and smart, as well as a skilled archer. Because of his knowledge, he is regarded the deity who purged evil from the earth.
The bow and arrow are emblems of Mergen Khan's justice and dominion, demonstrating his courage and valour. The appearance of the wolf's head emphasises his Turkish heritage. Hızır developed the unique pied horse, thought to be Mergen Khan's steed, which was nurtured by the Altai Turks.

Kayra - mythology and information
Kayra or Kaira (Old Turkic: 𐰴𐰖𐰺𐰀) is the creation god of Turkic mythology. Ulukayın, the tree of life, was placed by the deity. Kayra is characterised as both father and mother, and she lives in the 17th stratum of heaven. He is the pantheon's highest god and the son of Tengri, a sky deity. This son, Kara Han (the black king or lord of the land - Kara may indicate land, earth, black, or strong, powerful), abandoned his father's house in heaven and went to dwell in the underworld. He was sometimes referred to as Kara-Khan (the black king), and his father was the ancordial god Tengri.
History-
Tangri (God) Kara Han, according to traditional Turkic mythology, is neither male, female, or even human, but rather a pure-white geese that hovers ceaselessly over an unending stretch of water (time), the beneficent creator of everything that is, including the other, lesser gods. Among all Altaic Tartars, the dualistic divide is most obvious (Ulgen and Erlik), and the supreme god, Tengre Kaira Khan, is a good force. However, before Ak Ana emerges to push it to create, Kara-han grows uneasy, with creation taking place in a situation of loneliness, tumult, and dread: the water becomes turbulent, yet it reassures itself that it "need not fear" (the implication being that it is actually terrified).
Kara-han, the supreme deity in the cosmos it created, is the king of the three realms of air, water, and land. He sits on the seventeenth level of the universe and chooses the fate of its creation. After establishing the universe, it established the nine-branched tree of life, from which human ancestors descended. As a result, there were nine races (or clans). It has three sons, Ulgan, Mergen, and Kyzaghan.
Mythology-
Kayra Han is the creator God of Turkish and Altai mythology. He is also known as Kayýr Han. He is the Head God. He is the greatest and most recognisable of the gods. He made everything. He has ultimate supremacy. Sit on the 17th floor of the witness. He created other gods. In this respect, when compared to other gods, the attitude of one angel who obeys his commands or performs his duty will not be incorrect. However, no angel or equivalent notion exists in pre-Islamic Turkish culture. This result can only be obtained through comparison. Kayra Han decides the fate of the cosmos. The path of kindness is excellent. After creating the world, he planted a nine-branched tree (pine or beech). The live tree "Uluğ Kayın" links the spot with the chest. Nine individuals, the ancestors of mankind, descended from the branches of this tree, and nine tribes (nine races) evolved from their lineage.
Tengere (god) Kayra Khan is revered as a high-ranking god in the mythology of certain Siberian civilizations, including the Altais, Ostyaks, and Rubies. The tale of the construction of altars depicts it as the world's creator. In this mythology, Kayra Khan is also assigned the responsibility of becoming the god of the underworld as punishment for Erlik Khan, who is recognised as the god of all buried wealth. Sometimes it is equivalent to Göktanrı. He has three sons named Ülgen, Mergen, and Kızagan. Ulgen represents goodness and mercy, also known as Cemalini; Kagan represents fury and punishment; and Mergen represents wisdom and sovereignty. He exudes a beautiful presence. Concrete aspects are not well developed, but the abstract direction is more defined. There are sources that identify Mother and Ancestor (both male and feminine, neutral). He isn't shown much in human form. He spends winter on earth and summer in the sky. His lightning hits in many colours. Those who are struck by his thunderbolt become shamans.
He emits a stunning presence. The concrete features are not well explored, but the abstract orientation is more defined. There are references identifying Mother and Ancestor (both male and female, neutral). He is rarely portrayed in human form. He spends the winter on the ground and the summer in the air.
