soon enough she will get her designated ref but for right now here's a transparent, Katrina Craig, Leo's little cousin, silly billy, and origin of Katz ‼️‼️

this does mean I'm gonna have to update Katz's design too to match her skintone but thats alr cuz I gotta redraw her anyway

A few character lore and worldbuilding tidbits because I've had these in my head for so long but kept holding on putting them out there because I have no finished refs, I need to stop doing that and just let loose already!!

Under the cut because this is a WALL of text, bitches got a lot to say alr 😭

While Crystal's doing her usual heartbreaker work, Madre offers her a one time position as a maestro of a concert hall, to basically give her a possible job opportunity if she ever decides to get back into heartbreaker work past her graduation, this one time job offer being The Star Gauntlet

The Star Gauntlet is a series of labyrinths and bosses all crafted by the leading maestro of the gauntlet (in this case, Vanity) and I'm still thinking of the reason behind it but so far its for already heartbroken individuals to basically,, strengthen their heart, but without exactly healing it? Still thinking it out alr

Vanity's client for this one time gauntlet, is none other than Katrina! The human version of Katz! (timeline for Katrina is as follows: Katrina goes through the gauntlet -> nearing the end she gets the power to transform into her nightmaren form, which she lovingly named Katz because her blunt horns remind her of cat ears -> after the gauntlet is over, she's stored enough magic in her art to transform into Katz whenever she pleases

Katrina, now fully named Katrina Craig, is Leo's little cousin! By the time The Star Gauntlet happens (still thinking of a title for this event, another working title is The Shining Moment Program) Katrina is 12 and Leo is 17, the events of the Madre AU take place 2 years after the events of the main BWW story! (thus why postincident!Crystal is 14)

Leo sadly doesn't know about Katrina's situation, he hasn't seen his baby cousin since she was 9 💔 (Katrina's situation being that she lives basically alone, save for her father coming back to pay the bills every so often, REEKING of vodka- he has a gambling addiction and could care less about his daughter, Katrina gets food and most things she needs through dumpster diving and sometimes theft.) Last time Leo saw Katrina she was in a decent position so like if he ever finds this out (he will 👁️ 👁️) he's gonna be pretty taken aback

Originally I had planned to have Balan and his homies (the bww cast) intervene with the gauntlet in a separate au simply titled "Balan Interference AU" just as a fun little thing to be like "what would happen if Balan was more present and had a way of helping if he knew of the gauntlet's existence? 🤔" but overtime I started to like this AU so much it became part of the main Madre AU story, the possibilities for ♡Soft Feelings♡ are all around!!!!

Leo and Kat together are The Sillies, they are really just so funny <3 goofballs <33

craig manning 🎸36 years old // libra // smoker, musician, instructor, family provider, foodie, and father

craig manning, was recently diagnosed (pre-story) with bipolar I, but managing through therapy, to undo damage caused by generational trauma, a big trigger. only child of well-known community surgeon at one time, albert manning (deceased) and julia manning (jeremiah), (step)-son to joey jeremiah, half brother to angela jeremiah, a daughter julia had with joey after she divorced albert.

in this story, craig is overworked, subbing at night and worked many jobs to help their daughter katrina with his domestic partner, manny. he's basically a trying father to a teenage daughter, who frequently argues with him, but he easily gives in total daddy's girl he's trying to be tougher but it isn't working for anyone. the kicker is: that she isn't much older than he was when she was born. he doesn't want her to end up struggling like them. he shields her from his past too, manny too so she knows little of their lives before her birth as a result.

in his early years, albert had been continuously abusive toward craig, but his mother bore the brunt of it. she knew he'd get full custody if she were to leave, but left him behind because she couldn't take her where she was going. she didn't work while craig was younger, before she left, and couldn't afford much so when she ran off, she met joey got a brand new car, and sold some expensive jewelry to get a new sensible reliable car for herself to get away from albert in the prior weeks, ahead of time so there were zero, no, room for error. if he woke up she feared what he'd say and do. julia sadly passed from cancer around, she was in her mid-30s and angela barely remembers her but knows she was her mother. craig tries to keep her memory alive. joey sacrificed a lot as well as craig and manny, they're very close and talk often about things and joey gives him and manny sage wisdom, love in laughter in their modest abode. craig works multiple jobs, like manny his girlfriend, they currently work in theatre, craig does subbing working to get a position as a music instructor. he teaches guitar and piano, song writing at the community college. manny and him had been together since they were teenagers and together created a home that they feel safe and happy. craig is fearsome of commitment but knows manny deserves to be proposed to properly, woo'ed even, so that's where his head is at. he's trying to make it official. he wants her to see how much he means to her, and that all their sacrifices and times of strife were in the long run worth it. ✨

is there anything more beautiful than two boy besties who would go to the ends of the earth for each other and maybe also share lil goodnight smoochies? in tucker & dale vs. evil (2010), the two titular BFFs are pretty much the pinnacle of non-toxic masculinity — even when one of them does a little mild gaslighting to the other. for the most part, though, they’re for real ride or die, and they gas each other up and root each other on when a series of miscommunications has them facing off against a group of college kids. on a new spooky tuesday, we’re talking about how a little beer can fix everything as we cover all the CLEAR references to movies like final destination 3 and bodies bodies bodies.

Lately I've felt a certain primal urge to escape somewhere damp, cold, and perfectly secluded from the sweet man-made horror that is society. Unfortunately, I am broke and don't happen to have a victorian countryside manor at my disposal. More importantly, I cannot afford to miss any of my university classes. Fortunately, I can read! Underneath this cut you'll find some of my favourite reads that transport me, mentally, to better places.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Premise: Young protagonist falls in love with and shortly after marries a wealthy English widower. When he brings her home, she can't help but feel like his dead wife's shadow looms just above her.

Personally, I think this novel is the literary equivalent of Honeymoon by Lana del Rey slowly transitioning to Caroline by Taylor Swift (and similar tracks with equally eerie vibes)

Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

Premise: Aspiring scientist becomes so obsessed with finding out how to create life that he doesn't stop to ask whether he should create it. Proceeds to anger his 8-feet-tall creature and chase it across Europe so it doesn't kill everyone dear to him.

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

Premise: Orphaned and broke Sue agrees to help a conman seduce a wealthy heiress (in a "gloomy mansion", according to the back of my edition) and cheat her out of all her money. Problem: Sue and the wealthy heiress develop feelings for each other and must get rid of the men who stand in their way

This story is also well-known in its Korean film adaptation "The Handmaiden" directed by Park Chan-wook (which I have a totally normal obsession with).

Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu

Premise: Near a secluded castle in the Austrian woods a carriage crashes and crawling out comes the beautiful and mysterious Carmilla. To Laura, who has so far lived alone with her father, Carmilla is a much needed companion. However, something about Carmilla seems off.

I went to see an opera adaptation of this novel and at least once a week I wish I was in that theatre building again.
