*happy stimming about all the DMC talk* Many thoughts, head full, thank you so much! 💜
-Not sure how plausible this would be in canon, but I love the idea of reboot Dante being able to read, speak, and understand different languages innately because of his angel heritage. Slowly, at first, and he probably needs to hear a language spoken a lot before it "clicks" for him, but he gets there. It gets easier the more into his angel powers he delves/uses. I headcanon the first time he spoke in a language he didn't previously know, the only reason he noticed the difference is because Kat asked him when he learned to speak that language afterwards. It just sounded/felt like English to him. Not sure how this magical translation would effect slang, since even in its native language, that varies so much, but its still fun to think about.
-Dante unlocking healing abilities (from either side, tbh, since we've seen demons heal people in the preboot continuity, and angels being able to heal people just seems like a given) in order to help heal Kat. Also love the idea of him sprouting wings/angel feathers (like Vash from Trigun) as a way to shield Kat or someone else from harm. And maybe learning how to do that shield thing the Witches do, that'd be cool. Just! Let him be protective! Let him have powers that focus more on building and maintaining connections rather than just destruction. I love that trope!
-Idk if you've read Brandon Sanderson's "The Stormlight Archives" series, but I keep chewing over the idea of angelic and demonic energy being less like opposites and more like Stormlight and Voidlight from Sanderson's series. If you haven't read the series and have no idea wtf I'm talking about, just skip this, sorry.
-Something I noticed when playing the reboot after playing all of the original DMC games:
The demons in Limbo City all look... less organic, I guess? Than the demons do in the original DMC timeline. Like, OG DMC demons all look like things that coupd exist in nature, if a bit twisted into something more dangerous, like goats or monkeys or lizards. Even the bigger demons, like Berial or Echidna or Bael and Dagon all look more organic/natural than the demons in the reboot.
This isn't a complaint, btw, I really do like this detail! Because the only demons that I think can really compare to how mechanical/constructed the reboot demons look are the Angelos- i.e. something Mundus literally made. And Mundus has made other, more "natural" looking demons, too, like the Blades and Frosts and such- but the designs of the demons in the reboot make me think that THIS is what the demons that Mundus "designs" (shapes to his purposes) look like after 2,000 years of having the Human Realm as a testing ground for his minions and no Sparda to stop him.
This could also just be what the demons under Mundus look like after they've had 2,000 years to adapt/evolve in or to the Human Realm, since according to the OG DMC canon, demons change based on what they want or a driving desire, like moving really fast or having extra mouths to make it easier to cast spells. But also I kinda like the theory that the demons we see in the reboot are like this because this is the way Mundus made them to be. It vibes well with Mundus' boss form being a big construct of asphalt and fire and darkness, and that weird darkness that the collaborators bleed from their eyes after Lilith/the demons brainwash them.
of course!! i am always very happy to talk about dmc 💖
I have a huge soft spot for bilingual characters so I think this is a very fun concept! I personally headcanon reboot Vergil as fluent in Italian (further elaboration is his adopted family is Italian American with close roots to Italy and family still there and he has to talk to his Nonna somehow). And I've always liked the idea of Dante kind of picking up something in osmosis. He's a clever boy I would love for him to speak more languages and this is a fun idea!
Expanding upon the healing abilities is very fun to, I think. It would be very cool to for him to adopt a sort of power focused on defense particularly since in the reboot he kind of explicitly picks up a protector role and everything, it'd be cool to see!
(Also I have not read the thing you mentioned but I do like connecting the angels and demons in the reboot more then just having them be sort of opposites)
However I think the idea that a lot of the enemies we see in game are created by Mundus (or someone in general) is really interesting and makes a lot of sense with their doll like motifs. The bulk of the demons in game that we fight feel very...controlled. I've mentioned before on other posts but I've always kind of thought of Limbo as a body and the things in it acting like an immune system so the idea of the demons being a fabrication of Limbo to protect itself like antibodies is something I find interesting. But given the preboot and the Angelos it makes a lot of sense that Mundus could have made them also. Something I like a lot about the reboot to is how there's such a contrast between the more sentient demons (the Hunter, the Succubus, Mundus, Phineas, Lilith, those guys) and the bulk of the ones we fight in game and it just makes me really curious about what the demon world is like in the reboot (very fun to fill in with headcanons and fanon!)
#ask#dmc reboot#fab talks#fabtalks#limbo as a body is like my favorite way to view limbo i need to write more about it outside of my very big wip asdfgh

The end of the year book ask thing
1. 2. 4. 5. 10. 12. 13. 16. 24.
1. How many books did you read this year?
As of right now? 62. I'm expecting to do at minimum three more by the end of the year in order to keep up with my book clubs, and maybe a few more beyond that for my own enjoyment.
2. Did you reread anything? What?
I did! I reread a few favorites, including the most recent Murderbot book (Network Effect) in preparation for the System Collapse release, and the first Monk and Robot book by Becky Chambers so I could introduce it to one of my book clubs. Then a couple of Cosmere rereads too, including the first Stormlight Archive book and a LONG overdue reread of the original Mistborn trilogy. I'll probably reread the rest of Stormlight soon in preparation for book 5 coming out next year.
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
Hooboy did I ever! Top of that list is going to be T Kingfisher. I read one of her YA books a few years back (A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking) and enjoyed it, but this year I checked out her horror books for the first time and they SWEPT ME OFF MY FEET. I'll be picking up everything else she releases from here on out, I think. Another big one was Kat Eason, author of How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse, who I had the pleasure of meeting in person! (We live in the same area, and she's not-famous enough to respond to excited fans lol.) And a final shout out Emily Tesh with her marvelous new release Some Desperate Glory.
5. What genre did you read the most of?
Fantasy, by far. That's what happens when you go on a Brandon Sanderson binge and read 13 cosmere books in one go.
10. What was your favorite new release of the year?
THIS ONE IS REALLY HARD. Okay it's System Collapse because how can I not chose Murderbot. But Some Desperate Glory was also incredible.
12. Any books that disappointed you?
Not too badly? I was a bit disappointed by our lates book club pick Elatsoe, which was urban fantasy YA murder mystery where the main character was a Lipan Apache girl, since the central mystery just never really grabbed me. Probably also The Power by Naomi Alderman. It was just.... very 2016 style rah-rah feminism, in a way that feels tired and overly reactive to me now. Oh and the Whitesand graphic novels were a whole lot of nothing, and ended before they got to the interesting part of the world building. (Release the sequels, Brandon!)
13. What were your least favorite books of the year?
Bleh. Definitely The Starless Crown by James Rollin, and maybe also Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. The former absolutely WASTES a really cool sci fi setting/premise with badly done, overwrought fantasy action thriller. And the latter is just. very much not for me.
16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
Definitely Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. Don't get me wrong, it was very enjoyable and I got exactly what I came to it for (low stakes cozy found family fantasy), but it's not breaking any new ground that other books haven't done better before it, and it definitely doesn't belong on the Hugos "best novel" list.
24. Did you DNF anything? Why?
The aforementioned The Starless Crown by James Rollin. God, that book was terrible. None of the characters felt even remotely like actual real humans and the stakes and pacing management was abysmal. It was for a book club and I STILL couldn't force myself to the end.

These are the books I bought recently.
I got the first three book in the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. I already read the first book, and I'm so exited to get to the rest. I've heard good things about the second book, so I'm really looking forward to reading it.
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I got this one because I've been wanting to read more books by Gaiman, seeing I've only read three. I'm not sure what to expect with this one, guess I'll just have to read and find out.
Mind the Gap Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. This is the third book in the Dash and Lily series, which is a real cute fluffy story about a boy and a girl who get to know each other through a red moleskin notebook. I read the first two books multiple times and I watched the mini Netflix series. It's a great story when you just want to turn off your brain for a second and enjoy a lighthearted book.
Mort by Terry Pratchett. I already read this one a couple of days ago. It was truly a fantastic read. I laughed out loud multiple times reading it.
Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. Hopefully, I’ll enjoy this one as much as enjoyed Mort.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Usually I prefer modern fantasy, but I want to read some more classics. (if anyone has any classic recommendations, please feel free)
And last but not least, Wicked Fox by Kat Cho. This story is set in Seoul, and has Korean mythological creatures, which I really love.

tagged by @itstheelvenjedi , thanks so much!
Last Song: It was either “A Kat named Mittens” or “A Mat named Kittens”, the Main menu theme of Age of Mythology
Last Movie: as in, theater or including on tv? last theater movie was “Radiogram”, a Bulgarian movie shown in a film festival two years ago. Most recent movie at home was... I think it was Dunkirk, three weeks ago
Currently Watching: The Boys (discontinuing though coz I’ve long since lost interest in Superheroes), thinking of Mandalorian (I’m not into the ‘old west gunslinger’ type of stories, I need lots of Jedi and Sith action). If we count YouTube videos, I’m currently watching Natashas Kitchen, TIKHistory for World War 2 videos (and the occasional commentaries on what Nazi/Fascist/Bolshevik philosophy is or isn’t. If anyone is willing to look at some of his (admittedly long) vids, I’d appreciate thoughts on his accuracy and arguments. If anyone is wondering, he hates Nazis, holocaust deniers, Stalin, and Bolshevism with a passion. History rewriters only a little less so), and some others.
Currently Reading: Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson, which I reread in anticipation of the upcoming new entry to the series, Rhythm of War. Sanderson is a god-tier fantasy author and world builder, I do recommend reading his works if you can. The first eighteen chapters of the Rhythm of war audiobook were released on his official Youtube account. I next intend to reread my own Eternal War series on AO3 to refine it, to make it look like a professional work.
Currently Craving: I’m always craving for good food. Mostly lasagna, pasta, and pizzas. Tastes I want in particular: chicken, fish, cheeeeeeeeeeese. Side note, I think I might be overeating to cope with my poor mental health. Or maybe part of me is punishing myself this way. *Shrug*. I presently want to make (and eat) the Chicken Lasagna, pot pie, and fritters as shown on Natashas Kitchen, or as close as I can manage

i just finished my oathbringer reread the other night, and i can't stop thinking about how many people i'm sure were disappointed by the way dalinar's story went in that book. because they want the cynical, dark, "bad guy tries to be good but can't" book. more than they want a book about the radical power of change and evolution.
what (some) people want: this book is a gritty story about how people don't really change and even the heroes are just steps away from being villains
what oathbringer is actually about: every moment of your life is a chance to make a choice to be different and any argument to the contrary is a lie trying to pull you into despair
#kat reads#kat reads the cosmere#kat reads stormlight#i like really truly cannot overstate how much dalinar means to me#to love the journey is to accept no such end#and fuck anyone who says otherwise
