Karwa Chauth, one of the most significant festivals in India, is a celebration that brings together the elements of love, devotion, and tradition. Celebrated by married women for the long life and well-being of their husbands, this festival has a rich cultural history and is observed with deep reverence, primarily in the northern parts of India. Apart from its religious significance, Karwa Chauth has also become synonymous with style and fashion, as women dress in their finest ethnic wear, embracing the beauty of traditional Indian attire.

ARC Review of Marriage and Masti by Nisha Sharma
Tumblr media
Rating: 4/5 Heat Level: 3.5/5 Pub Date: August 27th
Premise:
A Twelfth Night-inspired romcom; Veera Mathur drunkenly marries her friend and crush Deepak Datta, and they agree to stay married as platonic friends until they meet their respective career goals.
My review:
Nisha Sharma finished her If Shakespeare Were An Auntie series strong with a friends-to-lovers romance done RIGHT. It has the perfect amount of pining and angst without veering into pathetic territory, and the way Deepak and Veera's romance develops post-marriage feels so natural and QUITE swoony.
Veera's in a bad place after being forced out of her family business by her own dad before they merge with Deepak's company. She's aimless and trying to raise capital with her twin sister for their next venture when she's yacht-wrecked in Goa. Enter Deepak, who was juuuuust dumped by his influencer fiancée via "get-ready-with-me" video (I did laugh; THERE'S your "com" in the romcom) and he rescues Veera, except they have a few too many and wake up married the next morning.
Here's the thing: Veera and Deepak have a history. Their friend groups merged a couple years back and they really hit it off, something we see via flashback text message conversations (similar to Tastes Like Shakkar which I loved), and you really see how Veera developed feelings for Deepak, as well as her hurt when she found out Deepak was engaged to someone else without telling her. Somewhere along the way, probably after his engagement, Deepak realizes he has feelings for Veera too and he takes the opportunity to play the long game after their accidental marriage. I like how neither Deepak nor Veera are in a place where they're like, super tragic about their love being unrequited which is how a lot of friends-to-lovers romances don't end up working for me. They never take it out on the other person, and though Veera especially hesitates even after they have sex and Deepak has kind of made his feelings known, it doesn't feel contrived.
I think Indian weddings are seen both in India and abroad as this enormous to-do (if recent events are any indication) and sort of the be-all-end-all, but there is so much more to a marriage than the wedding. And because Veera and Deepak basically elope, we don't get the wedding and instead, we see all these lovely, meaningful post-marriage Indian (specifically Hindu-Punjabi) traditions like the Aunties blessing their home and the Grihapravesha pooja to welcome Veera to Deepak's family home. And some of these moments are so so romantic— I DIED when Deepak pleats Veera's dupatta and helps her with her baliyan earrings before their wedding reception, and the way they observe, but also subvert the patriarchal tradition of Karva Chauth (where married women fast for their husband's well-being) in such a sweet way.
A couple other things worth noting— there is a lot of boardroom drama; the plot is centered around Deepak getting enough votes to become CEO, and Veera finding closure and moving forward after being shunted out of her family's company by her own dad. And a part of that, interestingly, is going no-contact with a family member, something that is still looked down upon in =South Asian communities, but I appreciate the nuanced way it was handled in this book, and by the end, you can see Veera is 100% valid for doing what she does. I also liked how the story deals with Veera feeling like the odd one out after both her friends coupled off which is very relatable.
The sex:
Deepak has strong "don't worry baby I'll take care of you" energy and I have to say, I'm a fan. It starts off strong with a sleepy sex moment (HOT; I love when two characters are just too exhausted to not give into their impulses), but my favorite scene is definitely before their belated wedding reception, and Veera is feeling anxious so she asks for "stress relief"— Obviously Deepak is more than happy to oblige, and there are so many details I loved, like the chime of her anklets against his back, and the way her lehenga is half off and exposing her partially. Again, Nisha Sharma is doing the most to eroticize Indian clothes and jewelry and I'm HERE for it.
There's also this mild brat/bossy dynamic which kind of peaks when Veera and Deepak go all the way the first time. It was surprising in a good way, and I just wish Nisha had expanded on it some more.
Overall:
Look, it's hard to find South Asian romances with this level of heat (and believe me, I've looked) and Nisha Sharma did a great job of interweaving the romance and culture in a really lovely way that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a romcom-esque romance novel.
Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

desi imagine masterlist
[4:15 am]
My alarm went off, and I was about to go and check my phone but I felt Jeonghan pulling me closer by my waist. “Hannie” I spoke in a very low tone; I had to get up no matter what. “Umm, stay here” I slowly removed his hands from my waist. “I need to get up” I kissed his cheeks lightly and got up; I checked the time and it was already 4 am. I got up and went to take a shower and got ready. Once I was done, I heard a knock on the door. I fixed myself a bit then switched off the night lights and switched on the lights and then went to open the door of our bedroom.
“Noor” I looked at her and smiled, “maa”
“Come down” I nodded, I closed the door carefully because he was still sleeping and I don’t want to disturb his sleep, he already came late home yesterday night and looked so tired.
“Your sargi” I was actually amazed how she kept everything, she made for me, an overwhelming feeling hit me, this was going to be my first Karva Chauth, I had to keep fast until we see the moon. “You have to eat this before sunrise and you have to keep the fast” I nodded and smiled at her. I went took her blessings and took the full big plate of sargi back to my room. I was kind of excited and I had an unknowing loving overwhelming feeling inside.
I opened the door slowly and saw Jeonghan sanding near the window, I was surprised for a second and then slowly closed the door. “Hannie” I called out his name and kept the thali on the table near our bed. He turned to look at me, “Noor” he smiled at me.
“Maa gave you sargi?” I nodded and sat on the bed. I let out a sigh, he came near me, “why are you sighing? You don’t want to keep the fast?” I shook my head, “no, it’s not like that” I gave him a look. I was feeling excited and overwhelming because it’s my first time. He shrugged off and then said “you know these look tasty?” I nodded. “Maa made these” I smiled looking at everything she made. She made gobhi stuffed paratha, paneer ki sabji, kheer, she kept few almonds, fruits, sewai with almonds and dates, coconut water. I saw Jeonghan pick up the bowl which had kheer, I looked at him with a confused face.
“What? I want to taste as well” I gave him a confused look and he took bites after bites. “You know it’s very tasty” I was looking at him in disbelief, he was eating my sargi!!
“Jeonghan, she made this for me, it’s MINE” I was about to get up and snatch it from him, “Okay okay, Noor calm down.” He gave me a bite of kheer. It was tasty, ah, I miss my home where I used to make kheer for myself.
After I ate the kheer, Jeonghan took out the paratha and panner ki sabji, he gave the plate to me after serving. “Awww, hardworking Jeonghan, why aren’t you sleeping and sitting here for me?” I looked at him, he looked at me, and I could see the love his eyes held for me. “Because I don’t want my dear wife to feel lonely while eating her sargi alone” I smiled at him. “But you came home late, and you should get some rest.”
“You’re more important for me Noor” and he pinched my cheeks, I looked at him, almost flustered because what he did. “Jeong-Jeonghan stop” I tried looking away but he was just infront of me.
I started eating the paratha, “Let me taste this as well”
“You ate my kheer already and I had two to three bites hardly, and now you want to eat my paratha as well” I pouted, and I saw him eating it. “You’re insane”
“How can you say that to your husband Noor” and before I could say anything, he kissed me. I was taken aback.
Everything I ate, Jeonghan wanted to taste and we ended up eating half- half of everything. He claimed he wanted to taste everything. I wonder why would this guy even wake up.
Sometimes I wonder, what did I deserve to get him, he always tells me how much he loves me and gives me everything I need, the warmth, the comfort, he understands me and respects me and my decisions; he never questioned me in anything and always supported me in everything.
How everything slowly fit together, when we fell in love, I never thought I would end up with him the way I wanted, it’s not even a year since we get married but each day, he fills my life with more and more happiness as if last seven years were not enough for him to keep me happy.
I couldn’t believe he actually came to talk to my parents to talk about our married with his parents, the fact his parents always knew and supported him. And knowing me, I still had a hard time to accept that I was with him infront of my parents in the end, I decided to tell them before I actually got married and left my home.
I couldn’t thank god any more or less for giving me Jeonghan, as mine.
I had the last bite of apple and heard Jeonghan say, “look, it’s sunrise” I smiled at him.
“Good morning Jeonghan”
“Good morning wifey” and he kissed my forehead.
“I should go get ready and have breakfast” he gave me a teasing smile. I just shook my head, this guy is so annoying at times yet I love him so much. “Yes, go have breakfast. Eat whatever you want.”
“aur tum fast rakhogi aaj meri jaan” (and you will be keeping the fast my love) he and his teasing, I am so done.
“You don’t have work today right?” I shook my head, “No, I took a leave”
“Sadly, your husband couldn’t take a leave and have to go for work today.”
“Of course, you should go and work, and you ate my half sargi. NO WAIT you almost had full of my sargi” I gave him a side look, “You look so adorable” he pinched my nose lightly and I looked at him in disbelief. He got up from the sofa and left.
I looked at the time, it was 5:26 am. I went down to keep the plate and everything. It was almost time for breakfast. I went down and saw mom already in kitchen.
“Noor” she called my name as soon as I stepped inside the kitchen, “what are you doing here?”
“Help you in breakfast like the way I do” she turned to look at me and stopped me from helping her, “No need, you should rest today.” she paused for a second and spoke “it’s sunrise already and you’re fasting. You would be on rest today and since you aren’t going for work today so just rest.”
“But-”
“No, but Noor, go back to your room and leave this here” she told me in the softest way possible.
I kept the plates and went back to my room. I saw Jeonghan sitting on his bed, I walked towards him and sat on bed. “Did mom kick you out from the kitchen?” and he started laughing. I just looked at him, and then nodded and the moment he stopped laughing he said “My dear workaholic wife, it’s fine to take a day off at times. You manage work and home both and help my mom as well in her chores that’s why it’s not wrong to take a small break for a day atleast.” He held my hand.
“I wish I could postpone the meetings I have today, and spend my day with you”
“Jeonghan it’s fine” I smiled at him.
“You taking day off is not normal, and at times we don’t get enough time to spend with eachother, sometimes I feel I should quit being a ceo and you should work and earn for family”
“You’re speaking as if you’re not rich and would die if both of us stop working.” I told him teasingly.
He suddenly pulls me closer and our faces were inches apart, “You speak way too much at times, I can make you quit as well and we can go to vacation for months so, stop tempting me for doing that”
I slightly pushed him, “you are such a tease”
“but you look so pretty in this olive green kurti and patiyala”
“Jeonghan you- I am so done. Can you leave for work already? Please?”
“Really Noor, you look the prettiest in this, I personally love this set of yours”
“When are you leaving Jeonghan?” he again pinched my cheeks and then kissed me.
Tumblr media
 [1:30 pm]
“Your mehendi looks so pretty Noor” I smiled at Nishi, “All thanks to you” I smiled at her. I might start loving Jeonghan’s sister more than Jeonghan loves her. He always loved her so much and now I see why he loves and adores her so much. She’s lovely. “You can ask bhaiya to search for something here” “Huh?” I asked her and she just smiled.
“And you’re done Noor” she fixed my dupatta. “Finally, I’m done, I want to go and sit on balcony” she nodded and I got up.
“Noor” I stopped my feet, when I heard maa’s voice, “yes?”
“You’re done?” I nodded, “Jeonghan is also back early today” I smiled hearing his name, well, I did miss him. When do I not miss him, it’s normal for me to miss him like this. “Are you going back your room?” I shook my head, “I wanted to go to balcony and wait for the mehendi to dry up”
“Okay, he was searching for you” I looked puzzled and then looked at the time, “It’s lunch time, he came to have lunch at home?”
“He said he already ate, and came home after that” I nodded, he said he had important meetings, maybe he was done. I walked towards my room and spotted Jeonghan coming out of our room. “so, here you are” I was walking carefully because of my mehendi, I don’t want this to mess up.
He came closer to me, “looks like you’re finally done” I nodded and smiled at him
“You’re back early” he stepped closer to me, I took a step back. He was looking at my hands, and yes I was suspecting him into pulling something right now, you can never trust him with his pranks and I could see him planning something.
“Jeonghan” I called his name
“I am wondering about your mehendi” this husband of mine.
“Jeonghan, no. you ain’t touching this mehendi”
“I wanna mess this up so bad”
“Jeonghan-” he was stepping closer, I need to run away or this devil guy will annoy me again, I quickly turned back and started running, I wanted to go back to balcony and sit there peacefully but Jeonghan.
“Noor, stop, don’t run” did I look like a fool that I would stop because he wants me and my mehendi is not even dried up, it’s fresh. It takes minimum three to four hours to dry up, and he wanted to mess up with me; I ain’t letting him do that.
Back when we were campus couple, he wasn’t pulling out pranks and he wouldn’t even tease like he does now, in his defence he said since I am with him and officially his wife he can tease me all he wants.
My mind was still, how he looked so beautiful maroon sherwani during our wedding, that smile when my hand was given to him, he looked so precious, I just wanted to protect his smile always and wanted to continue being the reason of his smile.
That one smile changed everything, and now here we are, husband and wife.
I was suddenly pulled by my arm and I was in his embrace in another second. My hands were safe, nothing happened to my dear mehendi and here he was holding me in his embrace tightly, his hands were holding me securely. “I wouldn’t dare to mess up with your mehendi noor, how could I do that”
I lifted my face too see him, “Jeonghan…”
“Meri jaan, I was just teasing you because I love teasing you, but I wouldn’t dare to do this. You look so cute when you runaway from me.”
“Jeonghan… we are not in our room” I was hesitating because what if someone saw us, “and we are married, I can do anything I want and this is my house” this guy, he is impossible.
“I don’t want to let you go when you are finally in my embrace.” His hand was on my head, and my head was pressed on his chest, I could hear his heartbeat, it was just like me.
After few seconds, he let go of me carefully. “Where were you heading to?” “Balcony, I wanted to sit there, because I had nothing to do and since I am getting a bit sleepy, I rather go sit there and read something.” he fixed my dupatta and held my shoulder. “let’s go” I looked at him and he was careful with my mehendi, he is such a tease and I love this tease so much.
We got into our bedroom and he closed the door, I was standing behind him, without taking any more step. He turned to look at me, “You should know whenever you wear this type of kurti and patiyala and a dupatta with it, you look like you came down from heaven, look at yourself now.” He took me towards the mirror and he was standing beside me, “you look the best in green, no matter how many times I tell you, nothing changes the fact.” I looked at us, he was holding my shoulder delicately, he was in casuals now, grey sweatshirt and sweatpants. He was looking at me, I could see it through the mirror.
I turned to look at him, “Jeonghan” his hands were on my shoulders, “Yes?”
“I love you” he looked surprised, well it’s not me who always tells him how much I love him or adore him, it’s always him. I can’t say it on his face, it takes time for me to say. He quickly kissed me on my lips, I was still looking at him, “stop being so adorable or else your mehendi would be ruined because I am holding back my urge to kiss you and pull you in my arms right now.” I laughed at him and laughed as well. The sound of his laugh is the most comforting one.
He took me to the bed, “you can get some sleep, I will stay here and take care of your mehendi.” I looked at him with a confused face, how did he even know that I am getting sleepy, “it’s okay, Hannie”
“You must be sleepy because of fasting and I bet you were the one who did everyone’s mehendi first and then yours was done in the end.”
How did he know?
“I just know you Noor, I know you.” she smiled at me. Since I couldn’t use my hands, he took my dupatta and kept it on the bed, and helped me to adjust. Since I was still in sitting position, he pulled the comforter to cover half of me.
How can he be such a loving husband, when I started dating him, I never thought I would get such an loving husband and will discover this side of him as well, because back then he was just full of fun and brainy guy, I never saw this coming.
“You can get a nap, Noor. It’s fine trust me.” he got up from the bed and gave me a forehead kiss.
Tumblr media
[5:10 pm]
“Noor, noor. Wake up”
“Noor”
I slowly opened my eyes, I saw the lights on and Jeonghan’s face inches apart while he was holding my face softly. Did I really fall asleep? “What’s the time Jeonghan?”
“It’s 5:10 pm already, you need to take this off as well, right?” his another hand was holding mine.
“OH MY GOD YES” I was about to get up in a hurry but he held my hand, “slow down Noor, it’s fine. There’s no hurry and mom didn’t come yet. You’ve time to get ready and I think you already have everything you need today.” I nodded, remembering mom came few days ago and gave me the lehenga and saree, she told me to wear whatever I feel like. That saree was pretty one though, wearing a lehenga, umm.
I slowly got up and went to get over with my mehendi, because it’s fully dried up. After I came back to my room, I saw Jeonghan taking out my saree and jewellery. “Jeonghan” I saw him standing infront of our closet.
I walked towards him, and hugged him from back. “Noor” and he turned to look back at me, his loving eyes were the first thing I ever fell for. He removed the strands of my hair and tugged them behind my ears which were covering my face. “Are you feeling, okay?” I nodded, “Are you sure?” I nodded again, “meri jaan” and kissed my forehead.
He should know that I can never get used to these two words whenever he calls me ‘meri jaan’ I feel like I melt then and there, the way he calls me ‘meri jaan’ it feels like he makes me melt with his voice.
“You should get ready because I will get ready as well, and I took out the saree maa gave to you, because I felt like maybe you want to wear saree tonight.”
“How do you know everything I want to do Hannie~”
“Okay, now go get ready and I will check what will I wear.” I nodded and let go of his waist. I turned around and was about to go towards the bed because he kept my everything there, but he suddenly pulled me by my arm. I collided with his chest lightly, he held both my hands, “your mehendi looks so pretty and the colour looks so beautiful” he was tracing the mehendi design, “Jeonghan, I need to get ready” I slightly pushed him and left him there. I heard his chuckle from back.
After few minutes, I was almost ready and walked back to the room, I still had to fix my saree and check the pleats if they are done or not. The moment I looked up, my eyes met with Jeonghan, he was looking so beautiful in white kurta. The colour looked so nice on him; I was in awe. It’s very rare to see Jeonghan in traditions and this happens only in occasions which is still rare for me to see him like this.
I was awestruck.
I walked towards him slowly. he was wearing white kurta and it was looking beautiful because of the embroidery on the collar. I almost couldn’t take my eyes off him. “Noor” he called me name and I walked closer to him.
“Yes?” he suddenly knelt down and patted his thighs, I was confused for a second then I saw him holding my payal, “tumhari payal meri jaan”  I was so flustered, oh god, this man, yes my husband is making me go insane.
I gently gave my leg and he put the payal around very gently. Once he was done, he stood up “and it’s done” he smiled at me. I got ready, I wore my kajal and eyeliner, and applied lipstick. Once I was done then I did my hair, I did half braid quickly. I looked at the mirror and saw Jeonghan smiling at me through the mirror. I picked up my earrings and wore it. I was done and suddenly Jeonghan came closer, the close proximity, his breaths were hitting my bare neck, more over because I was wearing a blouse today rather than the kurti I wear usually. He leaned towards the dressing table and picked up a chain, I was about to turn to look at him but then he held my shoulders and stopped me from moving. “Don’t move”
He put the chain on my neck very carefully, then gave a quick peck on my neck. I was taken aback because of this sudden act, “this is for you. I wanted to give this to you today” I turned to look back at him and hugged him tight. I would literally tear up because of the love and affections he gives me.
We heard a knock on my door and I went to open the door, “maa”
“you look so pretty and Jeonghan you’re ready as well” she smiled at us, she held my cheeks and gave me a kiss on my cheeks. I smiled at her, “now let’s go down and let’s do the remaining rituals” I nodded and we went downstairs.
I saw everyone sitting there, I walked carefully along with Jeonghan. After going down I saw, the way everything was kept and decorated, we had to decorate the kalash and other things. Once everything was done, and kept in the thali (a big plate), we had to go the terrace, because we would see the moon there.
After few minutes, the moon came out. I heard maa “the moon is here” then I went to pick up my thali which was on the table and had my head covered with pallu. Then I had to lit up the diya, then kept the diya on the Chhanni then while looking at the moon through the chhannie I had to pour the water from the kalash. Then after keeping the empty kalash on the other side, then I turn to look at Jeonghan and the moment I looked at him, I saw him holding a chhanni and looking at me. I was surprised to see him holding a chhanni and looking at me, “Jeonghan yeh kya kar rahe ho?” (Jeonghan what are you doing?)
“Wahi jo tumhne aaj mere liye kiya hai”
I was still confused, what was he trying to say, “meri jaan” and once again he goes with ‘meri jaan’ “fast rakha hai tumhare liye meri jaan” (I kept the fast for you my love)
I was taken aback, he kept fast for me and I didn’t know.
“this is the first time Jeonghan ever kept fast for anyone, and you’re the one for whom he kept the fast, this shows how much he loves you” I heard maa say this while completing and almost breaking her fast, she was almost done.
“Ab mujhe yeh chaand ko dekhne ki zaroorat nehi kyunki mujhe apni chaand mil gai hai”
“Jeonghan…” how could he just say these words so casually, I was tearing up slowly.
“Ho gaya? Kyunki mujhe abhi bhook bhi lagi hai”  I nodded trying not to tear up.
I had to take out the diya from the chhanni and keep it on the thali and chhanni on the table. After that I had to do the arti, once done I smiled at him and he smiled at me. he take the kalash from the thali and helps me drink the water and I do the same. And now I had to hold the thali and bow down, but before I could bow down after fixing my pallu, Jeonghan was quick to touch my feet and I was in disbelief. How could he do, and he didn’t let me touch his feet. He took the kaju katli, from the thali and gives me a bite, I saw him checking out our sides and suddenly he comes closer and takes a bit of the kaju katli as well, our lips touch and he pressed his lips more.
I was too flustered to even react, once he takes a step back, he could see how flustered I was. What if maa saw us, what if- I turn to look at my sides, and no one was here, not maa, papa aur Nishi. They all left and it was just us. I let out a small relief sigh, Jeonghan is insane.
“you’re insane, tum kuch bhi karte ho kahin pe bhi”  I looked at him,
“Haan, I’m insane because of you” he took a pause before speaking, “pata nehi hai tumko?”  and then he kissed my forehead, and says, “lambi umar k liye sirf tum hi kyun dua maango chaand se, maine bhi maang li aaj chaand se tumhare liye lambi umar meri jaan” he took another pause, “jisse ki hamari dono ki lambi umar ho aur mai tumhe issi tarah pyaaar kar sakun hamesha hamesha k liye” I was feeling overwhelmed and couldn’t resist anymore, why was he like this. I quickly gave him a peck. I wanted to love him more than he loves me
He smiled at me and says “Let’s go down now, I’m hungry” we were about to leave and maa comes and says “tumdono ka romance khatam ho gaya ho toh khane chalen?” and all of us burst out laughing and I got so shy.
Jeonghan held my shoulders and we went down, before going down he says, “tujhme raab dikhta hai yaara mai kya karu”
“I love you so much Noor” and kissed my cheeks.

Note
This is a combination of 2 questions, di!
What's a memory that you associate with any desi festival that has shaped you to be who you are today or one you simply can never forget? (It can either be a positive or a negative one)
Oh I have so many answers for that and in true bisexual fashion, I can never decide on one so I'll overshare as usual lol
Not sure if you've ever heard of it but there is a festival (barely a festival, but it is for me) called Ahoi Ashtami which basically comes 4 days (if I remember correctly) after Karva Chauth! It's basically a vrat moms do for their kids' well being and happiness and it's been my favourite festival since childhood. Sometimes I used to do an informal vrat with my mom to reciprocate but it was always such a....good unexplainable feeling? She used to make this dessert which I can't for the life of me type in English but to this day I die to eat it. We used to do Pooja together and I was given the "responsibility" to look out for the rising stars (since that's how you break the vrat). It just made me feel very loved and made me appreciate my mom so so much. Idk how exactly it shaped me but it did make me a lot closer to my mom
Another festival is a Jain festival called Rot Teej! Even though I'm not Jain myself, most of my childhood friends were Jain and so I used to get invited to their festivals a lot. This one time my friend's mom gave me and my friend rot (basically a kind of thick roti, made with other stuff tho) and bura in one plate and it's just such an integral memory. Sharing the same plate was a peak of friendship at that time. It was probably my happiest time with this friend and since we are no longer friends, this is one memory left of him which I cherish. I make sure to share my stuff as much as I can with my friends now
Another is bhai dooj cause I love love love my brothers so much. But it's special cause there is this pooja where we make a swastik for each brother and I've started making one for my online friend (who's in my Top 3 brothers) and it always leaves me smiling when I do that! One person living so far away has so much impact on you <3
The sad one is Diwali tho. Although past 1-2yrs have been good since I've distanced myself from my family on that day and focus on my rangolis but diwali has always been very sad for me. So when my new house was being built my parents left me home alone to spend the night at the new house because it was auspicious or whatever and that sucked honestly. Diwali is one of those festivals that is very hyped for me but always turns out to be lonely. But I've learned to find my own joy in it now <3

 The Cultural Significance of Mehendi
Mehendi is an ancient practice in India, with a history that spans thousands of years. Traditionally applied during weddings, religious events, and festivals like Diwali and Karva Chauth, mehendi is believed to bring good luck and ward off evil. The dark stain left by the henna paste is said to symbolize the strength of love and the bond between partners. For brides, the application of mehendi is an essential pre-wedding ritual, marking the beginning of a new chapter in life.
Types of Mehendi Designs Popular in Pune
Pune, with its mix of traditional and contemporary culture, offers a wide variety of mehendi designs that cater to different tastes and occasions. Here are some of the most popular types:
1. Bridal Mehendi:
   - Bridal mehendi is the most intricate and detailed form of henna art, often covering the entire hands and feet. The designs include traditional motifs like peacocks, flowers, and paisleys, along with personalized elements such as the bride and groom’s initials or portraits. The goal is to create a design that is both beautiful and meaningful, reflecting the bride’s personality and the significance of the wedding.
2. Arabic Mehendi:
   - Arabic mehendi designs are known for their bold, flowing patterns that are less dense than traditional Indian designs. These designs typically feature floral patterns, vines, and leaves, creating an elegant look that is perfect for both casual and formal occasions. The simplicity and elegance of Arabic mehendi make it a popular choice in Pune.
3. Rajasthani Mehendi:
   - Rajasthani mehendi designs are renowned for their intricate detail and complexity. These designs often depict scenes from Indian folklore, featuring elements like royal palaces, elephants, and dancing figures. Rajasthani mehendi is a favorite among those who appreciate detailed and elaborate art, making it a popular choice for weddings and festivals.
4. Fusion Mehendi:
   - Fusion mehendi combines elements from various styles, creating a unique and modern take on traditional designs. 1. Research and Recommendations:
   - Start by researching mehendi artists online, looking at portfolios, and reading client reviews. Word-of-mouth recommendations from friends and family can also be invaluable. Those who have recently had mehendi applied will be able to provide firsthand insights into the quality of work and professionalism of the artist.
2. Check Portfolios:
   - A portfolio is a reflection of the artist’s style, skill level, and range of designs. When reviewing a portfolio, pay attention to the intricacy of the designs, the neatness of the application, and the overall aesthetic. Ensure that the artist’s style aligns with your personal preferences.
3. Consultation and Trial:
   - Before making a final decision, it’s advisable to have a consultation with the artist. Discuss your ideas, preferences, and any specific designs you have in mind. Some artists offer trial sessions, which can help you gauge their skill and see if their work meets your expectations.
4. Consider the Artist’s Experience:
   - Experience plays a significant role in the quality of mehendi application. An experienced artist will not only be faster but also more adept at creating complex designs. They will also have a better understanding of how to ensure the mehendi stains well, which is an important aspect of the final outcome.
5. Pricing and Packages:
   - Mehendi artists in Pune offer a range of pricing options depending on the complexity of the design and the area to be covered. It’s important to discuss pricing upfront and understand what is included in the package. Some artists offer group discounts for bridal parties or can accommodate special requests for large events.
 The Mehendi Experience in Pune
Getting mehendi applied is more than just a beauty ritual; it’s an experience that connects you with tradition and culture. In Pune, mehendi sessions are often social events, with family and friends gathering to celebrate the occasion. Music, laughter, and the fragrant scent of henna fill the air, creating an atmosphere of joy and anticipation.
The process of applying mehendi is both relaxing and enjoyable. As the artist carefully applies the henna paste, intricate patterns begin to emerge, turning your hands and feet into a canvas of art. The anticipation builds as the paste dries, and after it is removed, the rich, dark stain reveals the final design.

Temporary tattoos in India
Temporary tattoos in India have evolved from being a traditional art form to becoming a popular trend among people of all ages. Whether you’re attending a wedding, a festival, or just looking for a unique way to express yourself, temporary tattoos offer a versatile and safe way to experiment with body art without the permanence of traditional tattoos. The surge in popularity of temporary tattoos in India is closely linked with the country's rich cultural heritage and a growing influence of global fashion trends.
In this blog, we’ll delve into the fascinating world of temporary tattoos in India, exploring their origins, cultural significance, various types, and how they are gaining popularity. We’ll also discuss the increasing trend of spiritual tattoos, which has seen a resurgence in recent years due to the growing interest in India’s rich spiritual traditions.
1. The Origins of Temporary Tattoos in India
Temporary tattoos in India have roots that can be traced back centuries. India, being a culturally diverse country, has long practiced body art as a form of self-expression, cultural identity, and spiritual significance. Henna tattoos, also known as Mehndi, are the most famous traditional form of temporary tattoos in India. These intricate designs are drawn using henna paste derived from the Lawsonia inermis plant and have been used for centuries in Indian weddings, festivals, and rituals.
Henna tattoos are temporary and typically last for one to two weeks. They are often associated with auspicious occasions like weddings and festivals such as Diwali and Karva Chauth. The art of henna tattooing has been passed down through generations, with many artists developing unique and intricate designs that reflect India’s rich cultural diversity. Today, henna tattoos are still one of the most popular forms of temporary tattoos in India.
2. The Evolution of Temporary Tattoos in India
While henna remains a popular choice, the scope of temporary tattoos in India has expanded over the years. With globalization and exposure to international trends, new forms of temporary body art have entered the Indian market, including spiritual tattoos and designs inspired by modern aesthetics.
The demand for temporary tattoos in India has grown due to their flexibility and the fact that they allow individuals to try different designs without the long-term commitment of a permanent tattoo. Temporary tattoos are especially popular among younger generations, who often experiment with designs before deciding on a permanent tattoo. Additionally, temporary tattoos can be customized for specific events, festivals, or religious functions, making them a convenient and fashionable choice.
3. Types of Temporary Tattoos in India
There are several types of temporary tattoos in India, each offering a unique way to express individuality. Some of the most popular types include:
a) Henna Tattoos (Mehndi)
Henna tattoos remain the most traditional and widely recognized form of temporary tattoos in India. They are commonly applied on the hands and feet and are an integral part of Indian wedding customs. Henna designs can range from simple geometric patterns to highly intricate floral and paisley motifs, and they often symbolize good luck, fertility, and protection.
b) Sticker Tattoos
Sticker tattoos are another popular form of temporary tattoos in India. These are often sold as pre-designed sheets where the tattoo is applied by simply pressing the design onto the skin and peeling off the backing paper. Sticker tattoos are quick and easy to apply and are available in a wide range of designs, from cute and playful symbols to more elaborate artwork. These are especially popular among children and teenagers during festivals and fairs.
c) Airbrush Tattoos
Airbrush tattoos are a more recent addition to the array of temporary tattoos in India. Artists use a stencil and an airbrush machine to apply tattoo ink onto the skin. These tattoos are fast to apply and can last anywhere from a few days to a week, depending on how well they are cared for. The realistic appearance of airbrush tattoos makes them appealing to people who want to test out tattoo designs before getting a permanent one.
d) Glitter Tattoos
Glitter tattoos have become a hit at parties and festivals. These temporary tattoos in India involve applying glitter to the skin using a special adhesive and a stencil. The shimmering, sparkly designs are especially popular among kids and are a fun way to accessorize for festive occasions.
e) Jagua Tattoos
Jagua tattoos are another natural form of temporary tattoos in India. Derived from the Jagua fruit, this type of tattooing is similar to henna but produces a blue-black stain, offering a different aesthetic. Jagua tattoos are popular for those seeking a temporary yet bold tattoo look.
4. The Rising Trend of Spiritual Tattoos
In recent years, spiritual tattoos have gained immense popularity, both as permanent and temporary forms of body art. India, with its deep spiritual roots, provides a rich source of inspiration for spiritual tattoo designs. These tattoos often draw from sacred symbols, deities, mantras, and yantras that have spiritual significance in Hinduism, Buddhism, and other Indian religious traditions.
Spiritual tattoos are more than just aesthetic; they hold deep meaning and are often used as a way for individuals to express their connection to their faith, beliefs, or personal journey. Some popular spiritual tattoo designs include:
a) Om Symbol
The Om symbol is one of the most widely recognized and revered symbols in Indian spirituality. It represents the sound of the universe and is often associated with meditation and inner peace. Many individuals choose to have the Om symbol as a spiritual tattoo to signify their connection to the divine and their personal spiritual path.
b) Mandalas
Mandalas are intricate geometric designs that represent the universe in Hinduism and Buddhism. They are often used in meditation practices to symbolize the journey from the outer world to inner peace. As a spiritual tattoo, mandalas are popular for their detailed and symmetrical patterns, making them both beautiful and meaningful.
c) Deity Tattoos
Tattoos of Hindu gods and goddesses are another popular choice for those seeking a spiritual tattoo. Designs featuring deities such as Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Lord Ganesha are often chosen by individuals who want to honor their faith and invoke the divine qualities represented by these gods. These tattoos are often seen as a form of protection and a reminder of the wearer’s spiritual journey.
d) Yantra Tattoos
Yantras are mystical diagrams used in Hindu and Tantric practices for meditation and protection. They are composed of geometric shapes and patterns, often centered around a deity. As spiritual tattoos, yantras are believed to harness specific energies and bring good fortune, health, and protection to the wearer.
e) Sanskrit Mantras
Many people choose to get Sanskrit mantras tattooed on their bodies as a form of spiritual tattoo. These ancient texts carry deep spiritual significance and are believed to have the power to protect and uplift the wearer. Common mantras include the Gayatri mantra and the Mahamrityunjaya mantra, both of which are considered highly sacred in Hinduism.
5. Temporary Tattoos in India: A Cultural and Fashion Statement
The growing interest in temporary tattoos in India is not just limited to traditional designs like henna but has expanded to more contemporary and fashionable options. Temporary tattoos offer a way to embrace body art without the lifelong commitment of permanent tattoos. This flexibility allows people to experiment with different designs, styles, and placements, making temporary tattoos in India a popular choice for fashion-forward individuals.
Whether it’s a spiritual tattoo with deep meaning or a fun design for a festive occasion, temporary tattoos in India have become a dynamic way for people to express their individuality. The accessibility and affordability of temporary tattoos also contribute to their popularity, making them a great option for those who want to try out body art without the permanence.
6. Conclusion
Temporary tattoos in India offer a unique blend of tradition, spirituality, and modern fashion. From the centuries-old practice of henna tattooing to the rising trend of spiritual tattoos, body art in India continues to evolve while staying rooted in its rich cultural heritage. Whether you’re looking for a meaningful spiritual tattoo or just want to experiment with a temporary design, India’s diverse tattoo culture has something for everyone.
As the popularity of temporary tattoos in India continues to grow, it’s clear that this form of body art will remain a popular way for people to express themselves creatively, spiritually, and culturally. With endless possibilities for designs and styles, temporary tattoos in India provide a safe, non-permanent way to embrace body art, whether for a special occasion or simply as a fashion statement.

Temporary tattoo designs in India
India, a land steeped in rich cultural heritage and artistry, has seen a burgeoning trend in the art of tattooing. While permanent tattoos have always been a part of various tribal and regional traditions, Temporary tattoo designs in India have gained immense popularity in recent years. The concept of temporary tattoos is not new in India; in fact, henna (mehndi) has long been used to adorn the skin with intricate patterns for weddings, festivals, and other ceremonies. However, modern temporary tattoos, which offer the beauty of body art without the lifelong commitment, are now becoming a fashion statement for individuals of all ages.
The Rise of Temporary Tattoo Designs in India
The concept of temporary tattoo designs in India appeals to a wide audience for several reasons. First, not everyone is ready to commit to a permanent tattoo, which is often associated with pain, permanence, and sometimes, regret. Temporary tattoos offer the perfect solution for those who want to experiment with body art without the long-term consequences.
Temporary tattoo designs in India have evolved to cater to a diverse population. From young adults who want to express their personality through trendy designs, to children and families looking for fun and safe options, the demand for temporary tattoos is skyrocketing. These designs are not only easy to apply but also easy to remove, making them perfect for people who like to change their look frequently.
Moreover, with India's growing influence in global fashion and culture, temporary tattoo designs have started incorporating traditional Indian motifs alongside modern styles. The fusion of heritage and contemporary aesthetics is one of the main reasons why temporary tattoo designs in India are becoming so popular.
Types of Temporary Tattoos Available in India
Henna Tattoos (Mehndi)
Henna has been used in India for centuries, especially during weddings and festivals like Karva Chauth, Diwali, and Eid. Mehndi is applied in intricate patterns, usually on the hands and feet, and is often symbolic of love and good fortune. While traditionally associated with bridal designs, modern temporary tattoo designs in India have extended the use of henna for more casual purposes.
Sticker Tattoos
Sticker tattoos are one of the most popular forms of temporary tattoos. These are easy to apply, water-resistant, and can last for several days. Sticker temporary tattoo designs in India range from simple geometric shapes to detailed and colorful images, appealing to both kids and adults. The variety of designs ensures that there is something for everyone.
Airbrush Tattoos
Airbrush tattoos are another innovative form of temporary tattoo gaining traction in India. Using an airbrush machine, the tattoo is sprayed onto the skin, creating a smooth, realistic finish. Airbrush temporary tattoo designs in India are highly customizable, allowing people to choose their preferred design and colors. They are often used for events, parties, and festivals.
Jagua Tattoos
Jagua tattoos are relatively new to the Indian market but are growing in popularity. Derived from the juice of the jagua fruit, this type of temporary tattoo creates a dark blue or black design, similar to henna but with a different color finish. Jagua tattoos are a great option for those looking for a more permanent-looking temporary tattoo design that lasts longer than traditional henna.
Body Paint and Glitter Tattoos
For those who want to add a touch of glam to their look, glitter tattoos and body paint are a fun alternative. These temporary tattoo designs in India are often used at festivals, concerts, and themed parties. While they don’t last as long as other types of temporary tattoos, their vibrant and shiny appearance makes them a favorite among children and young adults.
Popular Themes in Temporary Tattoo Designs in India
The designs for temporary tattoos in India have become more diverse, reflecting both global trends and local influences. Some of the most popular themes include:
Traditional Indian Motifs
Inspired by the intricate patterns of henna, traditional temporary tattoo designs in India often incorporate paisleys, mandalas, lotus flowers, and peacock feathers. These designs are deeply rooted in Indian culture and are popular for festivals, weddings, and other ceremonial occasions.
Spiritual and Religious Symbols
Symbols like Om, the Trishul, and the lotus are frequently seen in temporary tattoo designs in India. Many people choose these designs to express their spirituality or connection to Indian religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Minimalist and Geometric Tattoos
Minimalist designs are becoming increasingly popular, especially among the younger generation. Geometric shapes, delicate line work, and small, simple symbols are some of the most sought-after temporary tattoo designs in India. These tattoos are understated yet stylish, making them suitable for both casual and formal occasions.
Floral Designs
Floral tattoos have universal appeal and are among the most common temporary tattoo designs. From roses and lilies to jasmine and lotus flowers, these designs are versatile and can be personalized to suit individual preferences. Floral patterns are often chosen for their beauty and symbolism, representing growth, beauty, and femininity.
Tribal and Ethnic Tattoos
India has a rich tradition of tribal tattooing, especially in states like Odisha, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh. Modern temporary tattoo designs in India often draw inspiration from these ancient tribal patterns, creating a blend of modern and ethnic artistry. Tribal tattoos are usually bold and intricate, making a strong visual statement.
Pop Culture and Western Influences
With the rise of global media and social platforms, temporary tattoo designs in India have also been influenced by Western pop culture. Designs featuring popular characters, symbols from movies, and even sports icons are quite popular among the youth. Western tattoo trends, such as dreamcatchers, infinity signs, and anchors, have also made their way into Indian temporary tattoo collections.
Why Choose Temporary Tattoos Over Permanent Tattoos?
There are several reasons why people prefer temporary tattoo designs in India over permanent tattoos:
No Long-Term Commitment
Unlike permanent tattoos, temporary tattoos allow individuals to experiment with different designs, styles, and placements without the fear of making a lifelong decision. This flexibility is particularly appealing to young adults who are still exploring their identities.
Pain-Free Application
Permanent tattoos can be painful and require a skilled artist to ensure precision. In contrast, temporary tattoos are painless, easy to apply, and can be done in the comfort of one’s home.
Safe for All Ages
Temporary tattoo designs in India are safe for all age groups, making them ideal for children and teenagers who want to try out body art. Parents can feel reassured knowing that these tattoos are non-toxic and do not cause any harm to the skin.
Perfect for Special Occasions
Temporary tattoos are an excellent choice for weddings, festivals, and parties. Whether you’re a bride who wants an intricate henna design or a partygoer looking for a fun, edgy design, temporary tattoo designs in India offer limitless possibilities.
Affordability
Temporary tattoos are far more affordable than permanent tattoos. You can switch between different designs and styles without breaking the bank. This affordability makes them a great option for those who like to change their look frequently.
Quick and Easy Removal
One of the biggest advantages of temporary tattoos is that they can be easily removed. A little soap, water, or rubbing alcohol can erase the design, allowing you to change your look as often as you like.
Where to Find Temporary Tattoo Designs in India
With the rise in demand, temporary tattoo designs in India are now widely available. They can be found at:
Local Tattoo Parlors
Many tattoo parlors in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata now offer temporary tattoo services. They cater to customers who want to experiment with different designs before committing to a permanent tattoo.
Online Marketplaces
E-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra offer a vast selection of temporary tattoo designs in India. You can browse through thousands of designs, ranging from traditional henna to modern sticker tattoos, and have them delivered to your doorstep.

Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin: Savi Bani Rajat's Voice | SBB
Tumblr media
In today's episode of Star Plus' Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, the Thakkar family wakes up at 4:00 AM and gathers at the breakfast table. It's the festival of Karva Chauth, and the women observing the fast are having their meal before sunrise. While Tara looks upset, Rajat leaves the table immediately due to his deteriorating health. Rajat has developed a throat infection, as the doctor informs everyone. This news shocks the family, especially since Rajat has an important auction to attend. Rajat and Aman are worried about how they will handle the auction bidding under these circumstances, sparking a new drama at home. "What do we do, man? This land is crucial for our factory's future." Aman exclaims, trying to figure out how they will communicate during the auction. Rajat, unable to speak, resorts to writing on a piece of paper, but his handwriting is hard to decipher. Suddenly, everyone arrives, and as they read Rajat's eyes, the family understands his plight. Despite Rajat's throat infection and inability to speak, he manages to convey his thoughts through gestures and writing, albeit with great difficulty. The family decides that Savi will accompany Rajat to the auction, where she will interpret his cues and place the bids. At the auction, Rajat faces tough competition from Arsh and Ashika. Every time Arsh places a bid, Rajat increases it, with Savi's support. However, when the bidding reaches ₹140 crores, Savi stops Rajat from going higher. Rajat loses the auction, and Arsh celebrates his victory, taunting Rajat. Ashika is pleased with Rajat's loss. It will be interesting to see whether Rajat blames Savi for the defeat or eventually sees her decision as the right one. Stay tuned to find out how this drama unfolds on Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin.
