Summary:

Most people would prefer being the protagonist of a world full of adventure, be it in a game or in another world. But, unfortunately, a certain girl is not so lucky. Regaining the memories of her past life, she realizes that she was reborn in the world of Fortune Lover—one of the games she used to play.

Unfortunately, the character she was reincarnated into—Catarina Claes—is the game's main antagonist, who faces utter doom in every ending. Using her extensive knowledge of the game, she takes it upon herself to escape from the chains of this accursed destiny.

However, this will not be an easy feat, especially since she needs to be cautious as to not set off death flags that may speed up the impending doom she is trying to avoid. Even so, to make a change that will affect the lives of everyone around her, she strives—not as the heroine—but as the villainess.

Propaganda:

This show is so much fun. The protagonist is a lovable girl himbo, who is completely oblivious to everyone around falling in love with her. It’s a bit of a harem anime, but with equal opportunities: the girls are just as enamored with the main character as the guys are. The increasingly dumber ways in which she thinks she’s going to meet her doom (she is supposed to be the villain of the story, after all) are a delight to behold.

Trigger Warnings: Incest, Rape/Non-Con. The main character gets assaulted like two or three times, but it’s not graphic. One of these instances, where a kiss is forced on her, is by her adoptive brother, who is also her cousin, who is one of her main love interests.

Summary:

While in search of his precious friend, a young boy named Nai falls captive to a beautiful woman, whose looks are matched only by her taste for human flesh. Meanwhile Gareki, a clever thief, is in the midst of robbing her luxurious home. After causing a distraction, Gareki agrees to help Nai escape, but they are discovered upon the woman's return. As she transforms into a ghoulish monster, the boys flee.

On the run, Nai and Gareki are found by “Circus,” a government defense agency that deals with criminal activity too difficult for the police to handle and protects civilians from “varuga”—terrible monsters that devour humans for sustenance. In the hope that it will lead Nai to his missing friend, he and Gareki decide to join Circus. On their perilous journey, they face dangerous varuga and begin to uncover the secrets behind a shadowy organization known as Kafka.

Propaganda:

Karneval has two of the best protagonists I’ve ever seen. Gareki is superior to every other teenage boy protagonist in anime. His character arc, even in this one season that covers just a fraction of the manga, is so well-developed. I like that his arc is an emotionally driven coming-of-age and not a power fantasy.

Along with the main characters, Karneval has fantastic characters across the board. There is not a single supporting character I don't love (even the ones who annoy me). None of the female characters are reduced to love interests and are all unique and interesting, which can be hard to find sometimes in anime.

It is made by a female writer, which is always great to see, and for people who aren't really interested in romance, the anime is extremely friendship and found family driven. The found family aspect is really at the forefront of the series as Circus is not a glorified group and they don't get to have families which makes the bond between members so important.

The tone balance is amazing. In one episode, you can go on an emotional journey from laughing to crying in seconds. The plot is engaging with wild reveals and compelling mysteries to follow. The fantastical world is unique with the contrast of the dark monsters in a bright and colorful world. If you watch it in Japanese, the voice cast is so good and the soundtrack is also really good.

TL;DR it’s an interesting story with amazing characters to whom you will get attached.

Karneval and Fairy Tails ?!

Of course! This one was tough but fun to work on and I hope you'll like the direction I went with it. My apologies on this taking so long to get to you!

Okay, so the basis for this AU is probably the most tropery and cliched out of all the ones I've done so far but it's really the direction my mind kept going and an idea that I really liked despite those drawbacks.

So, I see this less of a traditional AU and more of a switched between worlds style AU. Kafka was, of course, responsible for the switch, using some magical means to send the characters working for and involved with Circus through the universes. Each character gets sent to their own unique fairy tale, which they must live through, survive, and find a unique 'key' that will allow them to escape that fairy tale world so that they can travel to other fairy tales to find the others, as they all just instinctively know, through that same magic that sent them there, that the only way back to their original world and lives are if all the keys are found.

So, I will admit that initially I had looked up all these different fairy tales and really hunted down the ones that metaphorically and in terms of content I felt really suited each of the characters but, half-way through writing it, I really had felt that it was too easy for each of the characters to get out of them and really, in the end, it was a bit too on the nose for me as a writer. I felt heavy-handed and didn't really feel it was great story-wise and knew that that would also show through to you guys, the readers.

So I took an abrupt twist and turn and looked up what were considered the ten most popular fairy tales, since there are ten characters I'm working with really here and covering. After that, I let the internet's random pickers match the characters for me and that made things just a bit more interesting I hope.

So, we're going to start with Jiki first, who wakes up in this strange new world to what is, yes, an absolutely beautiful fairy. But she becomes much less beautiful when she tells him how she has no choice, she must do this for his own good and then turns him into a frog. That's right, Jiki got himself landed straight into the good old classic tale of The Frog Prince. Though he isn't really all that familiar with the fable himself, he just goes by what the fairy who cursed him told him, which was that he must get a beautiful princess to love him, to take him in and care for him, to let him drink from her cup, eat from her plate, and sleep on her pillow. Now, initially Jiki really does think the fairy is setting him a really impossible task and that he's going to have to risk his life just trying to invade a castle, steal onto tables and beds without being seen, and cheat to get those conditions fulfilled. Once he figures out, though, that as a cursed animal he can communicate with humans and have them understand him, he really does think the whole thing will be so much simpler. He lays on the charm, the good manners, smoozes each princess he can come across but every time he's met with either fright, disgust, fear, or them running away because 'eww, this frog is going to give my delicate little hands all kinds of warts'. By the fifth or sixth princess he's tried the routine on, Jiki is just getting sick of it all so when he meets the next princess, he does try the same routine, at first. But when that princess reacts exactly like the others had, Jiki loses a little bit of his composure. He looks at her and is just like 'holy fuck, you're kind of an idiot, aren't you? I mean, obviously I'm no normal frogs. Look at all these other frogs���any of them speaking to you? No, because frogs can't talk so there's proof towards what I'm telling you, that I'm a cursed person. Also, I'm not asking for your first born child or any shit or even for true love's kiss, just need to drink from your cup, eat from your plate and sleep on your pillow. The fairy didn't even say you had to drink from the cup after me, eat the food on the plate after feeding me, or even sleep beside me on that pillow. Just do those things, get a new cup and plate, change out your pillow, and I'll be out of your hair, you spoiled brat. Also, there's no amphibian that will give you warts, that's an old wives tale and I honestly thought the education system for princesses would be so much better than this, you might wanna fix that when you rule this kingdom.' Thank god for Jiki but this princess was actually a little into degradation so him being a jackass because he is just so fed up with this and wants to get out and back to his normal life really works on her and she does what he asks. And poof, Jiki turns back into a human on her bed, wearing a crown because the frog was always a prince and the second he reaches up and touches that crown, he knows it's his key. He actually says a really nice farewell to the princess before he takes the crown and skeedaddles on down the road, which he just sort of knows with certainty will now take him into the tale one of the others is trapped in.

And it's a good thing he did, because the tale he falls into is Kichi's. She has made zero progress in her tale, though it really wasn't her fault, something she makes clearly known because boy, does it kill her pride that she hasn't been able to find her key, especially when Jiki had found his. But how could she? She was at a disadvantage from the start because, though she knows she could do this alone, nobody seems willing to allow the tale to move forward, they just keep talking about how they need to wait for her 'brother' to get back from playing outdoors and they keep repeating the same day over and over. To say this annoys her greatly is an understatement. Everything about her life there is horrible - her 'parents' seem to hate her and are mean to her, their house is small, cramped and poverty stricken and she just wants to leave this place but cannot seem to manage it. She's honestly a little relieved to see Jiki when he shows up and is declared her brother, just because it means she can finally leave. Not that she'll ever let him know that. The two bicker and argue, but the story finally progresses, with them both being brought into the woods by their 'father', who abandons them in a deep, dark part of it. While searching the forest, the two of them come across a huge house made out of gingerbread, cake and candy. Kichi has, quite honestly, been starving in the house all this time, subsisting only on bread and water once a day because that's all the family could really afford. Needless to say, she doesn't care that it's destruction of someone else's property, that the candy and cake are all stale as fuck, she sneaks some candy off that. When the witch comes out and starts offering to feed them…Kichi and Jiki have both seen enough as Circus members, they know where this is likely heading. They both accept going inside the house but both are on their guard. While the witch had obviously been intending on fattening them both up first, the constant snide little remarks and bickering between Jiki and Kichi drove the poor witch up a wall and yeah, she figured they were healthy enough for her to just cook and eat as was. Once the duo knew that yeah, they were right, obviously this nice old lady had bad intentions, I like to imagine them really kicking her ass and going back to back badasses, just because I love the trope so much, all while still kind of picking at each other, teasing each other. The witch gets pushed into her own oven and Kichi learns that the oven handle is actually her key so that gets taken off the oven pretty quickly, once the two of them figure out how to do so. With Kichi's key found, they leave the now melting house of goodies and know that when they do, they'll find their way into someone else's tale.

We're going to take a short break from where Jiki and Kichi end up to switch to Iva, who finds herself waking up in her story already leading this poor, way too skinny cow down a country road and with the knowledge in her head that to get back home, she needs to find the golden goose. She's walking down the road when this dude just walks right up to her and offers to buy her cow from her. She isn't really all that attached to the cow and would rather have money that will let her find that golden goose, since money seems much more useful than a cow, so while the dude is kind of gross in her opinion, she's more than willing to do business with him. Well, she is until she learns that he's not even offering to give her money for the cow. No, all this cheap-ass dude, who's looking way too closely at her boobs, is offering to give her is a lousy handful of beans, which he tells her are magic beans. Yeah, she's had experience with con-men before and she loses her temper a little bit. To try to stop the beating Iva gives him early and to make her go away because yeah, she was beautiful but lord is this woman scary, this bean salesman has learned, he's begging her to just let him show her and hell, she can keep her cow too, just please stop hitting him and he'll plant the beans for her. Iva relents a little, the man plants the beans, adds some water, and what do you know? Turns out, Iva discovers, that the man was telling the truth because this humungous beanstalk starts growing and doesn't seem to stop growing, as it disappears up past the clouds. She might not like the man, but a fair trade has to be a fair trade, and she does send him off, now bloodied, with her cow in exchange for his beans and the advice to climb the beanstalk to find unimaginable riches. So that's precisely what Iva does. When she finds herself at the top of the beanstalk, she's in the castle of what she soon figures out in a very bad-tempered giant who tells her he can smell her and is going to grind her up and eat her. She really doesn't take too kindly to this but even for her, taking on a giant single-handly isn't going to be great. So she does everything she can to evade him, finding and stealing some of the riches of his castle as she goes along because honestly, it seems fair to her that she should be able to take some of these jewels and gold in exchange for the fact he's trying to kill her, right? She eventually, while evading the giant, comes across the golden goose, which she grabs right away because yes, this is the thing that will take her home right and she needs that because the giant is now right behind her. Except she grabs it and…nothing? Literally nothing happens, she's still stuck in the story. The giant is right there now and to distract him and because Iva's now really angry that she found this goose and it didn't work, she chucks the bird, full force, towards the giant. The bird is so flustered that out pops a golden egg. Iva sees this and dives just as the giant reaches out his great mitt to grab her. She catches the golden egg, just barely, just by the tips of her fingers, and knows that is her key and that all she needs to do is find her way back to the original beanstalk. Filled with new purpose, she uses a knife she found along her journey in stab the giant in the thumb before he can grab her and, still clutching that golden egg and with the other things she'd stolen strapped onto her, the chase is back on as she runs back to the beanstalk and literally tosses herself down it, knowing that when she lands, it will be in someone else's story.

And Iva finds herself so relieved to find that the first person she sees, the first tale she falls into is Tsukumo's tale. Tsukumo is very glad to see Iva, though she doesn't really need the woman's help. She has her tale very well handled, honestly. Tsukumo had found herself being sent from her 'mother's' house, wrapped in a bright red cape and hood, with orders to deliver a basket of wine and cake to her grandmother's house and not to leave the path. Tsukumo wasn't quite sure what was going on, but she has always been good about following orders. So she headed off along the path, where she found herself approached by a talking wolf, who, upon learning of her task, suggested picking a bouquet of flowers to add to the basket of goodies going to her grandmother. While it did seem like a good idea, Tsukumo pointed out that there weren't too many flowers along the path proper, to which the wolf had responded that there were all kinds of beautiful flowers just a bit off the path, just to her right, not even more than three minutes walk. Tsukumo hadn't even hesitated in her answer that, thanks for the suggestion, but she'd been told not to leave the path and she had no plans on breaking those rules and if the wolf would please excuse her, she had to be getting on her way. This was about the time the wolf gave up its pretenses and just attacked her, and it was while Tsukumo was fighting the almost magically strong and vicious wolf that Iva dropped into the fight. To say the wolf was toast goes without saying. The wolf slain, the tale should have been complete but Tsukumo still had no idea what her key could possibly be. Iva had suggested they make a picnic out of the goodies meant for the grandmother and figure it out together, but Tsukumo refuses. The goodies are meant for the grandmother after all, she couldn't take them from her. Instead Tsukumo insists on finishing the journey to the grandmother's house, which turns out to be the right call. Tsukumo knows, upon setting eyes on it, that her key is the grandmother's sleeping bonnet and she makes the elderly lady a trade. Tsukumo and Iva have a lovely meal of wine and cake with the grandmother and then Tsukumo gives the old lady her cape and hood, while she wears the bonnet out the door, knowing that by doing so, her and Iva will leave this woman and this tale forever and will find themselves in someone else's story.

Which is how Iva and Tsukumo join Kichi and Jiki into falling into Tsukitachi's story. What they find though? Honestly, it annoys all of them to varying degrees. See, Tsukitachi fell into the story of Puss in Boots, where he had to take the role of the cat and use all his cunning and wisdom to make his master a grand marquis and get the King's daughter to marry him. Which, honestly, Tsukitachi managed without too much trouble at all. When everyone falls into his story, he's completed it, found his key in the boots, and is just simply having too much fun, since the wedding had turned into a days long party, to want to leave quite yet. He greets everyone so happily (and slightly drunkenly) and lets them know what's going on, encourages them to stay and enjoy themselves a little, why not, he's not quite ready to leave yet…needless to say, Tsukitachi is left with no other choice but to leave his tale and might have been forcibly dragged away so that they can all move forward. He takes it all in good humour though.

Especially since the next tale all of them fall into is Doctor Akari's. Akari had gotten sent into the tale of Sleeping Beauty, where he had learned that he was taking the place of the princess, cursed to prick his finger on a spindle when he turned sixteen and sleep for a hundred years until a kiss awoke him. But, since he got sent back to when the fairy cursed him, he put the extra time to use and while he still ended up pricking his finger, the tale's progression too strong for him to resist, when the others find him sleeping beside this spinning wheel (because everyone else in the tale falls asleep with him so there's no one to carry him to a bed), they find there's a note he pinned to his chest so that no one could miss it. 'Do not kiss me. There is an antidote to this magic in my pocket, inject that into me instead.' And honestly, everyone is getting ready to follow Akari's orders until Tsukitachi stops them. Because like…it's fun to mess with Akari and can you just imagine his face if someone were to kiss him and wake him up instead? Tsukitachi actually becomes somewhat insistent on this because he sees a way to mess with Akari and that is too good to pass up and the others really see it as just easier and quicker to go along with Tsukitachi, as the man takes the antidote from Akari's pocket anyway, so they would have had to get it away from Tsukitachi to give it to Akari. I just find it a funny idea, but they all play rock paper scissors to decide who has to kiss Akari because while the idea amuses Tsukitachi, nobody really wants to kiss the man. Poor Tsukitachi loses anyway, when it got down to just him and Iva (because there was no force in nature that was going to make Iva kiss Akari and she made sure Tsukitachi knew that) and he plants one on Akari, who wakes up. And lord, Akari is pissed because like…he left solid instructions. Do they know how long he had to work to come up with that magic antidote? They wasted so much of his time and efforts and eww, he did not want to be kissed, especially by Tsukitachi. Tsukitachi handing Akari his antidote back and assuring the man that it could probably come in useful elsewhere along this whole journey, as they still had others to rescue, really calmed Akari down. Akari breaks off the spindle, which is his key, and they all progress into the next tale, since honestly, Akari is just so ready for this all to be done and over with and is in a bad temper.

Tsukitachi doesn't seem to be immediately right though. The next tale finds no use for Akari's antidote, but does jolly Akari up somewhat, considering it's Hirato's tale they fall into and boy, is it nice to see Hirato be 'in distress' for once. Though honestly, it turns out Hirato was less in distress than they thought. See, he had fallen into the tale of Rapunzel and found himself locked up in a tower, his hair growing at a super fast rate, with no way to escape that he could immediately see. A witch would visit him once a week and though Hirato had come up with a few escape plans before very long, he kept still in his tower, trying to see if he could garner any information from the witch. The others pop into his tale about the time that Hirato decides that he has learned all he possibly can from the witch and that he would make his escape that day. The others stumble across this tower, see Hirato at the top window and the witch climbing back down his hair to the ground below. Once the witch is truly gone, they all hurry to the tower, yelling at Hirato to get his attention. He pokes his head out the window, sees them and just politely smiles and tells them to give him a second. The next thing they see is Hirato, now with much shorter hair, wrapping this super long braid around a hook by the window. Turns out he had pickpocketed a knife the witch had brought to cut up his weekly food for him before she left and he used the braid he had been sporting to climb down and join the others. He digs a rock out of the surface of the tower with the others help, knowing that the tower itself is his key and he must take a piece of it with him to be able to leave. The group walk into the forest and poof, into the next tale.

Honestly, this tale makes Akari much happier, if only because it's in this one that Akari does find a use for his magical antidote. The tale they come into is Yogi's. Yogi had found himself in the tale of Snow White. While he had been quick to figure out the Huntsmen had been planning on killing him when he was sent to accompany Yogi, on his evil stepmother's order, and had fought and defeated the Huntsmen, Yogi was still completely unsure of how to get out of his tale. His key wasn't anywhere around that he could see and so he stumbled through the woods, trying to figure out what to do next. He came across the seven dwarves cottage and they took him in. Honestly, Yogi was having so much fun with the dwarves, and really began to care about them greatly, that he got kind of distracted in finding his key and getting to the others. Too bad his key was also his undoing. While he knew the apple his evil stepmother, disguised as a passing elderly woman, was his key, the magic on it was too great and he couldn't help himself from biting into it, the curse on the apple causing him to fall into an enchanted sleep. The dwarves grieved him greatly and put him in a glass coffin in the forest, which is where the others all find him. They remove the glass cover and there's some talk of trying kissing again, since that helped the last sleeping person but Akari is having none of that bullshit again and Yogi gets unceremoniously stabbed and injected with Akari's antidote. He awakens to find himself still holding the apple, thank god, as that is his key, and with all his friends around him. He says a tearful goodbye to the kind dwarves, and they all move along to the next tale, all of them feeling good because like…they're almost to the end. They can think, really, of only a couple more people they may have to rescue.

Gareki is having one hell of a time and it's putting it lightly to say he really hates the tale he fell into. He had awoken in his tale to find himself in the process of being cursed by a fairy to assume the form of a monster until he could truly love another and find that love returned to him in kind. Now, problems with that…one, Gareki himself has a really hard time allowing himself to grow attached to other people, it turns out it's not really love if you're simply trying to grow attached to break a curse, and his monstrous form really does tend to send almost everyone running and screaming away from him. He's beginning to think there's no freaking way he's ever going to find a way out of this bogus, stupid tale when the others make their way into his tale. And honestly, things didn't go so well at first because all the others saw, when they stumbled onto this castle, was a monster. It took a little bit for Gareki to really get them to accept, without any doubts, that he was the monster. After that, the curse became a lot easier to break…though still not easy because Gareki? Admit and accept his feelings? Boy oh boy, is that one of the toughest things in the world for him. But it's only through accepting and admitting out loud, even as a whisper, that he truly does love and care about his comrades, and their own assurances that hey, they need Gareki around and he's part of their family (along with a few cracks about how they accept his new form because hey, there's really not much change from his normal face and this monstrous one) and that they care about him for the spell to be broken, though it takes a lot longer than it would if it was anyone else than Gareki cursed. When the curse fades, Gareki realizes that his key is one of the roses in the castle garden and plucking it, all of them make their way into the final tale.

That last tale, of course, being the one Nai got dropped into. Nai found himself dropped into a world where he quickly lost the man who said he was Nai's father, and where his stepmother and stepsisters quickly put him to work. Of course, his tale is Cinderella and we all know how the story goes. Nai really is too nice for his own good though and too blindly following…he really works hard and does what's demanded of him because by doing so, he gets a bed and regular meals and he actually gets really used to his new life, though he cries every day because he terribly misses his friends and life with Circus and wishes to go back to it. But he really doesn't know how to find his way back by himself and he doesn't want to be turned out into the street with no home at all and no food, like he keeps being threatened with. And in his own way, he does grow to care about his newly found stepmother and stepsisters and really wants to make them happy. He seems to think that if he just does everything they ask and does it really well, they'll start being nicer to him so he tries really hard. And when the ball comes around and his stepmother forbids him to go unless all the work is done, knowing that breaking her rules will make his stepmother really mad, he keeps turning down the fairy godmother's offer, and the story just keeps repeating itself every so often, over and over, because, though he doesn't know it, the story can't progress without him saying yes to his own freedom. Which is why it's so lucky that the Circus members drop into his story and find him out running an errand for his stepmother. Flat out, after learning the kind of life he's living and seeing how dirty and run down he is, no one is letting Nai go back to that. And he's perfectly okay with that because all his friends are there now, they can help him get home and protect him. And lo and behold, the fairy finds all of them in their new location, a set of rooms Iva rents for them in this world with all her gold and still makes the same offer to Nai. With encouragement from his friends, and an assurance from the fairy godmother that they can go to the ball with Nai, Nai accepts the fairy's offer and finds his key in the glass shoes he's gifted, along with new fine clothing.

With all the keys finally gathered, the Circus members all return to their world, glad to be back there, intent on studying the magic that caused the switch in worlds and, in a couple cases because let's be honest, a few of these people are very much not opposed to the idea of revenge, very intent on dealing out some much needed punishment to those that put them through that.

Really doesn’t seem all that interested in you at first especially not in a romantic way, he can almost seem a little tsundere in way because he can come off as rather cold, distant and even kind of rude at times, but at other times he can seem curious about you and gentle and even rather loving with you from time to time. It can be a little confusing on whether he likes you or not but over time he can make it a little more obvious, but it will take him some time to actually fall for you and then to even realize and acknowledge that he actually has feelings for you. 

This will likely take months for him to fall for you, realize it, acknowledge it and decide to act on it and he can kind of bounce back and forth on whether he should tell you how he feels or not. When he does decide to go through with it, he’ll want to get you alone but the exact place can depend on where the two of you are when he feels like telling you, he just won’t want any attention or others to be around. 

He will be noticeably nervous and uncomfortable which can make you wonder if something is seriously wrong, but will manage to explain his feelings to some degree and ask you out though it may be more like hinting at it rather than being straight forward about it. But once the two of you do start dating he can still be kind of shy about the whole thing and doesn’t really want to make the relationship public and tell everyone, at least not away but he’s not going to get mad if people happen to find out or if you tell someone, he may seem a little annoyed depending on who you tell and if he feels like its too soon but otherwise doesn’t really care. 

He is very level headed and calm though he can have a quick temper at times but really only when he’s being pressured or pestered to do something or told what to do. You are really understanding, patient though extremely insecure but despite that you do come across as pretty confident, which he’s also rather insecure but won’t really like to admit it to anyone. 

He can seem very guarded because he does have walls up and won’t like letting people past them, this means it will take some time for him to start letting down his guard around you and really letting you in and opening up to you. But you are patient and he’s patient with you as well and won’t even ask for you to answer certain questions or pressure you to open up he lets you open up to him on your own because that’s how he’ll want you to treat him. 

He doesn’t mind crowds or busy areas but can dislike them if he’s trying to do something with you like going to an amusement park or a festival, but he won’t make you go anywhere busy or crowded because he knows you don’t like large crowds. If you would prefer to be at home or somewhere the two of you can be alone, he’s fine with that as well, he really doesn’t need to spend time with you in a fancy way or doing anything special. 

You can be rather scary when you get angry and so can he so if the two of you do happen to disagree or end up in an argument it can be pretty severe, but he also won’t dwell on arguments but he will need a cool down period where he’ll stay away from you for a few hours or so and calm down before kind of apologizing and making up with you. He can be affectionate but he does not care for PDA and can be really embarrassed by it but tries his best to hide it, he will highly prefer to be affectionate when the two of you are alone but can occasionally put up with holding hands in public. 

He doesn’t like to instigate affection too often or at least he doesn’t like to be the only one instigating things, you’ll need to instigate some hugs or cuddles with him too now and then otherwise he’ll feel like he’s forcing you to be affectionate with him. When he is affectionate with you he likes to cuddle with you facing each other when the two of you are in bed, but likes for you to sit in front of him with your back to his chest to cuddle you when the two of you are sitting or hanging out doing other things like watching movies. 

You do suffer from insomnia which he is very understanding about and will do what he can to help you, even staying up with you or cuddling with you. He shows a bit of curiosity with some of your hobbies and interests, he does enjoy reading too so he can be interested in what you are reading or what books have been your favorites, he’ll always be open to recommendations though he typically prefers to read books where he can learn things rather than just reading fantasy or fictional books. 

He’ll be curious about what you are drawing any time you have a sketch book out but really won’t press to see what you’re drawing. You like growing plants and flowers which he can take note of and may even gift you live plants and flowers for gifts, ones that you don’t have yet. He enjoys talking with you and spending time with you rather casually, sitting outside watching the stars and talking about your day, things you’re passionate about or plans for the future he’ll love everything about it. 

When it comes to Halloween he acts very uninterested and will never seem excited or enthusiastic about the holiday or any holiday really, he will practically refuse to dress up in a costume for Halloween but if you or others really push him to he can cave in and do it but can seem annoyed about it the entire time. He will not be interested in matching costumes and neither are you so it’s really not going to happen, after all he will really try not to wear any costume. 

You are willing to go to Halloween parties but aren’t crazy about them and neither is he, both of you are far more comfortable with hanging out with friends and watching horror movies and eating snacks. He’s not crazy about decorations for Halloween but doesn’t complain about them if you want to decorate things, he is rather disinterested in everything about Halloween or any holiday but at the same time likes to be included and is rather easy going about all of it. 

Over all he is very caring, supportive and does whatever he can to keep you safe, he does struggle to show you how he feels about you and even more to tell you how he feels about you. But he really does care about you and will put you first doing whatever he can to help you and be there for you through anything, he is very protective and treats you as an equal to be partners with him to overcome anything that comes at the two of you.

🎃 Likes listening to you play piano if you’ll play for him though he wants to he can have a hard time complimenting you for your talents or even when he thinks you look nice, which can lead to some awkward like compliments at times, other times he can praise you in a more genuine fashion.

🎃 Acts like he doesn’t really care about Halloween but can easily become wrapped up into it and that doesn’t mean he’s enthusiastic about it, but he likes to be involved in things especially when others are doing things it’ll pique his interest like if you are making Halloween snacks or carving pumpkins he’ll seem disinterested but wants to be invited.

🎃 Really caught off guard if you do anything for him or show him a lot of kindness, things like cooking for him, giving him any kind of gift, drawing him something anything. But he does really appreciate anything you do for him it’s just that he can be surprised by your kindness and isn’t use to people doing things for him.

Aoi, after some indecision, uses flags to come out on their blog page while announcing a hiatus because they want to work on their technical skills, personal growth, school work, maid occupation and develop a new blog image for the new stage he's at.

Anime i’ve Watched

Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.

Karneval

Synopsis:  While in search of his precious friend, a young boy named Nai falls captive to a beautiful woman, whose looks are matched only by her taste for human flesh. My Thoughts: Love the character design and I was interested in the story but the series is far too short. I’d suggest you go read the manga (which is farther along) but it’s rarely updated so I can’t confidently say it’s worth the read. Your choice is read/ watch this and suffer alongside me with the lack of updates or erase its existence from your mind. Your call! 

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (Run with the Wind)

Synopsis:  Former ace runner of Sendai Josei High School, Kakeru Kurahara is chased away from a convenience store for shoplifting. My Thoughts: This was a masterpiece in my opinion, an anime I won’t soon forget and one of the best of its season without a doubt! Good stuff right here and not in a high school setting which is a change of pace for a sports anime! A very satisfying anime that I highly recommend. 

Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises)

My Thoughts: Beautiful and dreamy but not one of my favourite anime films unfortunately. Still very good though!

My Thoughts: I recall this terribly sad episode that was an absolute masterpiece but to be honest the rest of the series didn’t leave much of an impression on me. I didn’t even bother watching the second season when it came out. Do what you will with that information.

Kenka Banchou Otome: Girl Beats Boys

Genres: action, martial arts, school, shoujo, TV short

Synopsis:  Kenka Banchou Otome - Girl Beats Boys, Hinako Nakayama has spent all of her life being raised in state-run orphanages, without ever knowing her family. My Thoughts: Reverse harem style, tv short with a tomboy female lead. Not really long enough to leave much of an impression but fun enough if you have some time to waste. Surprisingly great art/ animation.

Keppeki Danshi! Aoyama-kun

Genres: comedy, seinen, sports

Synopsis:  He is charming, cool, athletic, a good cook, but more importantly, he's a clean freak. Aoyama is idolized and respected by everyone, but they can only admire him from afar due to his mysophobia. Despite that, he plays soccer—a rather dirty sport! As the playmaker for Fujimi High School's soccer club, Aoyama avoids physical contact at all cost and cleanly dribbles toward victory. However, the path to Nationals will not be easy for Fujimi's underdog team. But alongside striker Kaoru Zaizen, Aoyama will show everyone that even as a clean freak, there are things he's willing to get dirty for. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Thoughts: comical with what I recall to be very little focus on the actual playing of sports which is a bummer if that’s what you’re looking for. It was alright but there are definitely better comedy (and for sure sports) anime's out there!

My Thoughts: One of my top three favourite anime's of all time despite my not giving it a perfect score and the sole reason i’m such a Trigger fangirl despite the way they continue to disappoint me with each and every new release... Highly recommend! Fair warning there’s plenty of skimpy outfits and fan service which may turn some off but if you can get past it this really is an anime worth checking out. Great story, characters, music and style! A chaotic feast for the eyes and ears! I really should rewatch it...

It didn't look like he was going to get tired anytime soon, unfortunately for you.

"Shit," you muttered under your breath as you felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, your instincts screaming danger.

"No where to run now, (y/n)~," Yogi's husky voice purred in your ear, making your skin crawl. So many times that voice had whispered sweet nothings in your ear, but now all the love and adoration that had made that voice so beautiful before was gone, replaced by malice and ill-intent. Strong arms wound around your waist, yanking you off your feet and back into a solid chest. "Caught you~! Let's do something fun together, (y/n)!"

Panic crawled up your spine, the beginnings of an idea of what was going to happen to you entering your mind and sending a shot of fear through your system.

As his body enveloped yours, red eyes staring into the depths of your own, you couldn't help but note how cold he felt, how his natural Yogi warmth was gone. Fighting crossed your mind for a second, but considering the position you were in now, you knew struggling would be useless. Closing your eyes, you allowed him to carry you away, his grip on your body bruising.

Was this really the same person you knew and loved?

"Time to wake up, my love~."

Your eyelids flew open, hands yanking at the bonds that held them above your head as you came face to face with crazy hovering over you. "Yogi!"

"Happy to see me?"

You swallowed, your eyes darting away from him for a moment to scan your surroundings. From what you could tell you were in some sort of storage room, crates and boxes piled up in the corners. The strangely soft bed beneath you seemed out of place. Where in the world had he taken you?

"(Y/n)~!" Yogi whined, body collapsing on top of yours. The pout on his lips made him look deceivingly innocent. "Pay attention to me!!!" Large hands squeezed the backs of your thighs, making you gasp and buck beneath him, your hips accidentally grinding against his. Burying his face into your chest, you felt him purr, his hands rubbing up and down your sides sensuously. "You're so cruel to me, (y/n)."

The change in his tone caught you off guard, making your eyes widen as his hands gripped your waist more possessively than before. It was still playful, but there was something...else there now too. Something sinister that made your heart quicken and your pupils shrink. You had half a mind to kick him away, escape at that very moment, but you knew it would only make him angry and that was last thing you wanted to do right now. Besides...

Silver hair brushed your cheek as Yogi climbed up your body, his lips pressing and sucking at your neck. As his body moved against yours, you could feel the rippling muscles just beneath his loose shirt, hinting at the sheer physical strength of this usually gentle man.

...there was no way you would get very far.

"You have no idea how Gareki and Jiki look at you when you aren't looking."

What? Gareki and Jiki? What was he talking about?

You didn't have much time to dwell on the thought as sharp teeth nipped at your neck, making you yelp and tilt your head to the side, unintentionally giving Yogi more access to the soft expanse. Lips ghosted over the bruised skin, a deep chuckle resounding in your ears. "You're such a tease and you don't even know it..."

His voice was quiet...too quiet, you realized, a second before a scream of pain escaped your mouth. You hadn't even seen the knife in his hand, hadn't even realized he had it before it dug into the skin of your abdomen, not stabbing, but carving at the flesh. It only lasted a few seconds, but the immense pain you felt by the time he was done had you panting, tears falling down your cheeks despite your best efforts to hold them back. Faintly, you felt a thin stream of blood dribble from the wound.

Breathing deeply, you looked down to your injured torso, assessing the damage. Carved into the side of your stomach was a jagged 'Y,' blood running freely from the deep cut.  Above you, Yogi laughed, the sound grating against your eardrums.

"Look, (y/n)! Look how beautiful my mark is! Look how beautifully you bleed!" His hand brushed over the wound, making you inhale as his lips graced the mark a moment later, the flesh throbbing and screaming in response. "Now everyone will know..." Bloody lips caressed your jaw and you winced, shutting your eyes a moment before the beast's piercing red ones could meet yours. "Now everyone will know you're mine, (y/n). Forever and ever."

"Yogi..." Your hoarse whisper was a cry for help, a plea for the man you loved falling on deaf ears.

"Keep your eyes on me, (y/n)..." The bloodied knife traveled up the length of your shirt, cutting away the fabric.

More tears escaped your eyes, horror and panic making you struggle against your unyielding bonds. The monster above you simply gripped harder, holding you down and ignoring your begging.

"Cry for him all you want, (y/n)! It really gets my blood pumping~." The rest of your clothing followed your shirt, cut to pieces and tossed aside. His hands and mouth were everywhere, traveling across your bare skin too gently, too lovingly for the situation.

"Please, Yogi..." You felt him stop for a moment, his hands stilling. "Please, don't do this." Your voice choked, you made a last attempt to struggle, to shake him off, but he didn't budge. Outside, the sun was going down, leaving you in the growing darkness with the animalistic half of the man you loved. His red eyes pierced through the gloom, pin-pricks of violence against the lengthening shadows.

"You're all mine, (y/n)."

And all you could do was close your eyes as the beast devoured you through the night, marking your heart and soul with a bloody 'Y.'

hello! and omg i'm sorry for the late reply, i was out most of this week and i hate typing on my phone orz

oh yeah i get that lmfao i used to prioritize books and novels too exactly bc of that, but recently i've not been too able to concentrate on words only lmfao i feel like a kid needing drawings to read, but damn my brain sucks lol BUT BTW, i know u just said you don't like waiting for things. but i read a webtoon and i thought of you, i think you're gonna like it! it's called "homesick" and it's creepy and the art is so pretty (it's very different with the colors, kinda on the same vibe of lore olympus). it's for free on the webtoon app, there's only 28 chapters so far and it updates weekly, but it's been really interesting so far!!

not really, but i do love art skajdkaj i love making art but i'm definitely not a picasso or anywhere near lmfao which is why i wanted to have a study experience for it. oh i haven't done much of the course lately, i think i watched one hour of it in the past 3 months or something lmfao but i've been really stressed this year rip i studied design first thing when i finished hs back in 2014, it was actually fashion design but i hated it so i changed to graphic design and a technical course instead of college (here in brazil they count as the same thing, but 2 years instead of 4+ lol). i've been working as a freelancer since i've finished it but i never really ~loved~ working as a graphic designer. i have serious issues liking things i do etc. i started ux now bc i desperately need a job, it's something that it's REALLY hiring a lot of people and i honestly think the research part of it could be better for me because i wouldn't pressure myself as much?? but then i also always wanted to BE an artist, but i don't really have much talent or do any effort to become better, so i decided to study it so can actually force myself to do it for my own good. because my brain needs this switch you know, the change in environment to function. i hate working from home and doing things at home because i spend the whole day thinking about my bed. or i'm on youtube all the time. i need to be in another place to change my mentality, idk why i'm like this lmfao i'm easily distracted and can't focus. so i'm going back to college to do better things to myself!!! also i've always wanted to have these kinds of college experiences too, but here in brazil we don't really have dorms and exchange programs are really hard too lmfao

oh my don't even talk to me about it lmfao adulting sucks and i also don't know most of it lol thankfully most of my friends don't do either, so i'm not too pressured. only a couple of them (they're a couple, that's why) have their own house, the rest of us still all live with our parents (it's very common here in brazil bc pays are low and rents are high) but man hopefully we can get through this soon! imposter's syndrome isn't good for anyone, really hope this bitch goes away

free is.... something LMFAO i love makoto, he's one of my all time fave characters. he has so much dept even for a fanservice anime lmfao but free is really... about fanservice lol though the story is cute, the whole plot is the same and there's a bit of tension for like 2 episodes between makoto and haru and then it's already over. the rest is just like a breeze. but it's good to watch when u wanna see 15 year olds with body of 30 year old bodybuilders, the sexualization hits hard, but no one talks about it bc they're men lol the voice actors are all great though!!! i couldn't watch the last season (or last 2, idk how many are out there now, i watched 2) bc makoto's shoulders were pissing me off (you know yaoi shoulders? those were it). but then you look at the seiyuu list and the cast is truly *chef's kiss*

#D4: Two kids join in hunting monsters and uncovering secrets

While in search of his precious friend, a young boy named Nai falls captive to a beautiful woman, whose looks are matched only by her taste for human flesh. Meanwhile Gareki, a clever thief, is in the midst of robbing her luxurious home. After causing a distraction, Gareki agrees to help Nai escape, but they are discovered upon the woman's return. As she transforms into a ghoulish monster, the boys flee.

On the run, Nai and Gareki are found by “Circus,” a government defense agency that deals with criminal activity too difficult for the police to handle and protects civilians from “varuga”—terrible monsters that devour humans for sustenance. In the hope that it will lead Nai to his missing friend, he and Gareki decide to join Circus. On their perilous journey, they face dangerous varuga and begin to uncover the secrets behind a shadowy organization known as Kafka.

The story follows the Kumo brother, three well-known samurai brothers who send criminals to the secluded prison Gokumonjo in the middle of Lake Biwa. Together with the former Fuma ninja Shirasu Kinjou, the Kumou brothers live a frugal and joyful life, mostly dedicated to studying and training. However, the Kumo brothers soon learn how they are tied to the Orochi’s vessel, a human host possessed by a demon serpent from ancient times, and how they are destined to destroy it once and for all.

#D4: Karneval

Propaganda:

Karneval has two of the best protagonists I’ve ever seen. Gareki is superior to every other teenage boy protagonist in anime. His character arc, even in this one season that covers just a fraction of the manga, is so well-developed. I like that his arc is an emotionally driven coming-of-age and not a power fantasy.

Along with the main characters, Karneval has fantastic characters across the board. There is not a single supporting character I don't love (even the ones who annoy me). None of the female characters are reduced to love interests and are all unique and interesting, which can be hard to find sometimes in anime.

It is made by a female writer, which is always great to see, and for people who aren't really interested in romance, the anime is extremely friendship and found family driven. The found family aspect is really at the forefront of the series as Circus is not a glorified group and they don't get to have families which makes the bond between members so important.

The tone balance is amazing. In one episode, you can go on an emotional journey from laughing to crying in seconds. The plot is engaging with wild reveals and compelling mysteries to follow. The fantastical world is unique with the contrast of the dark monsters in a bright and colorful world. If you watch it in Japanese, the voice cast is so good and the soundtrack is also really good.

TL;DR it’s an interesting story with amazing characters to whom you will get attached.

I found this series absolutely entrancing when I originally watched it, the portrayal of the characters and themes is really interesting to watch.

It tells a fantastic story about trying to defeat a legendary evil that can corrupt those around it to do its biding, all the while mixing in comedy and really heartfelt moments between family. For a 12 episode series they did a really good job of tying up any loose ends and finishing the plot, some things could have been expanded upon a bit more, but for what it is they producers did a wonderful job.

The series might not be the most groundbreaking anime ever, but it does have some lovely moments and explorations of its characters. I really like the themes of family, and wanting to do anything you can to help the people you love, it’s always nice to see and I think it’s done really well in this anime.

Okay you know what. More people voted for Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun than Natsume's Book of Friends. But I am getting conflicting info about Nozaki's demographic. The wiki page says shoujo. The magazine it was published in does have some male-targeted titles, but it's also in the same magazine as My Happy Marriage...But I've seen more than one person say it's shounen.

Yogi will show an interest in getting to know you immediately though it’s really not in a romantic way at first, because he is generally just very social and friendly especially when it comes to meeting new people. So, he will not hesitate to talk with you and try to learn a lot about you and includes you in everything and tries to spend a lot of time around you. 

Slowly over time he’ll begin to realize that he’s developing romantic feelings for you and he can become a bit shy and flustered around you, not knowing exactly how to handle it because he won’t want to risk ruining the friendship between the two of you if you do not return his feelings. 

Because of this he can even distance himself from you for a bit because it will get to the point that it’s hard for him to maintain eye contact with you and hold conversations. This will also lead up to him confessing his feelings for you in a very expressive and bold manner, which can also be at a random time and place and could be in front or others or when the two of you are alone. 

Which can simply make it an outburst for whenever he can’t hold back his feelings anymore and can’t stand the awkwardness of the situation. Which the time between his realization that he loves you and when he confesses his feelings to you is a relatively short amount of time, and at most will be over the course of a couple days. 

Once the two of you begin dating he is very affectionate and expressive about how he feels about you and he will have no problems with PDA or telling you how he feels, though he doesn’t need you to match his expressions because he can be a bit over the top at times. 

However, he can seem a bit hurt if you refuse to return or respond to an affectionate act, like if you refuse to hold hands with him or turn away from him if he gestures for a hug. But while he can seem hurt pretty easily, he also bounces back very quickly and is also understanding of what you are comfortable with and what you aren’t comfortable with. So, if he notices that you dislike PDA he won’t instigate PDA as often, he will be very understanding and patient and the last thing he’ll want to do in pressure or push you into something that you are not comfortable with. 

He pays very close attention to you and encourages you to talk to him when something’s on your mind or any time you are sad or upset, and if he can tell that you are upset he can slightly nudge or poke you to open up but if you show even the slightest bit of hesitance he can back off pretty quickly. You can be very terrifying when you are angry and he can be rather sensitive to anger, he can back off and apologize quickly and profusely if you’re angry with him, and if you’re angry at someone else he won’t get in your way. 

He will be willing to listen to you, talk things out or comfort you after you’ve calmed down from your rage, if you need to vent your frustrations or just complain about something he’ll happily and quietly listen to you. In general, though you are very gentle and kind to the people you love and he is nothing but kind, considerate and loving with you. 

Yogi is also very sympathetic to the fact that you suffer from insomnia and will want to do anything he can to help you or comfort you if he can, even though he may not know exactly what he can do to help you. He is affectionate towards you quite often when the two of you are alone and he has a habit of hugging or cuddling you when he’s trying to comfort you or sympathizes with you. 

This can make him a little clingy at times especially when he knows you are sad, upset or having a tough time, because he will not want to leave your side and can become very upset and distraught if kept away from you. Yogi is extremely interested in all of your hobbies and interests and will compliment you for your talents frequently, like the fact that you can play the piano and sing he adore this, and compliment you for your ability to garden and sketch things. 

He’s doesn’t just compliment you for your hobbies and talents either he frequently praises you for being smart, cute, funny, sweet, kind anything. When he falls in love with you be will be with you for the long run and won’t see a future without you, which makes him trust you completely and he is very honest and loyal to you. He can be motherly with you yet childish at times too, he is very concerned about your safety and can worry about you when he’s not with you. 

Though he can also make a bigger deal of things then they really are, if you accidentally cut yourself or skin your knee, he can act like it’s much worse than it really is but that’s only because he cares about you so much. He likes spending time with you doing absolutely anything and will do whatever makes you happy, if you want to go out for a date or stay in and watch movies, he’s content doing anything with you.

■ Loves the fact that you like cats which can lead him to get you a lot of cat related items and even really wanting to get a kitten. He can also spoil you with gifts quite often but doesn’t really expect anything from you in return, but he will be extremely touched by anything you give him even if it’s something simple or small.

■ Will be very touchy and affectionate with you and really enjoys holding hands with you whether in public or when the two of you are alone, he also touches your arm or thigh when sitting next to you, playing with your hair and hugs you often especially from behind if you’re in the middle of something.

■ Does tend to be quite emotional and can cry pretty easily and get his feelings hurt easily too, but can also cheer up quickly especially with praise, attention or affection. Manga the Week of 7/28/21

SEAN: The end of July should be quiet, right? Everyone’s on vacation, right? Right?

ASH: I actually will be on (a very much needed) vacation!

SEAN: Airship has the print edition of Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling 1, and an early digital for Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter 2.

Cross Infinite World has the 2nd volume of Mia and the Forbidden Medicine Report.

Denpa Books has a 2nd volume of Heavenly Delusion.

ASH: Nice to see this one finally coming out; it encountered some delays.

SEAN: Ghost Ship debuts Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight! (Hagure Idol Jigokuhen), which is coming out in 2-volume omnibuses and runs in Nihon Bungeisha’s Bessatsu Manga Goraku. A wannabe idol and karate expert is tricked into the adult entertainment industry, and forced to fight the sex equivalent of a death match game.

MICHELLE: …

ASH: Huh.

ANNA: Erm.

SEAN: J-Novel Club gives us The Faraway Paladin’s 5th manga volume, John Sinclair: Demon Hunter 3, Monster Tamer 5, Perry Rhodan NEO 2, and the 4th Sweet Reincarnation manga.

Kodansha’s print titles include the debut of Pretty Boy Detective Club (Bishounen Tanteidan). They’ve released the first three novels for this already, now we’re getting the manga, which has run in Aria, Palcy, AND Shonen Magazine Edge, so is sui generis. It’s about a middle schooler who gets caught up in a very strange club.

MICHELLE: The first novel didn’t thrill me, but that was largely because of the narrative style. Could be that I would enjoy it more as manga.

ASH: I’ve found that to be true of some of NISIOISIN’s other work as well; at times the stories seem better suited for manga (or anime) rather than prose.

SEAN: Also in print: Boys Run the Riot 2, CITY 12, I’m Standing on a Million Lives 10, Sweat and Soap 7, and Yuzu the Pet Vet 6.

ASH: Boys Run the Riot is high on my list. And this is a good reminder for me to give Sweat and Soap a try.

SEAN: Digitally we see two debuts. My Darling Next Door (Tonari no Otona-kun) is a Betsufure series about a high school girl who falls for an older salaryman who’s just moved next door. Hrm…

ONIMAI: I’m Now Your Sister! (Onii-chan wa Oshimai) runs in Ichijinsha’s Comic Rex, and is about a young man who is turned into a woman due to his mad scientist Little Sister. No comment.

We also see And Yet, You Are So Sweet 4, Back When You Called Us Devils 3, Harem Marriage 7, I’m Standing on a Million Lives 11 (print has nearly caught up), Quality Assurance in Another World 2, Saint Cecelia and Pastor Lawrence 2, Saint Young Men 12, She’s My Knight 2, The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 5, and the 10th volume of When We’re in Love, which is not a final volume but the series has gone on hiatus after this.

SEAN: Seven Seas has a few debuts. I’m in Love with the Villainess is based on the light novel, and the digital version has been out for some time, but the print edition of the manga is now released.

ASH: Excellent.

SEAN: Seaside Stranger (Umibe no Étranger) is a BL story from Shodensha’s On Blue, about two men who bond with each other at a seaside town… only one of them isn’t staying long. Can they reconnect?

MICHELLE: I’m definitely looking forward to this one!

ASH: Same! I’ve heard good things.

ANNA: Sounds good.

SEAN: The Strange Adventure of a Broke Mercenary (Kuitsume Youhei no Gensou Kitan) runs in Hobby Japan’s Comic Fire, and is based on the light novel that Airship is releasing. A cynical merc finds it hard to change careers and become an adventurer.

Also from Seven Seas, Berserk of Gluttony 3, Blue Giant 5-6, My Senpai Is Annoying 5, the 5th and final volume of the PENGUINDRUM manga, and The Demon Girl Next Door 3.

ASH: For the most part, I’ve been enjoying what I’ve read of Blue Giant.

ANNA: I have yet to read the first volume, but I have it!

SEAN: Square Enix debuts The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!), the story of a demon lord whose mana crystal is shattered and who ends up powerless in the human world. Can she regain her power despite being small, weak and somewhat pathetic? This has an anime coming out this summer, and is, sigh, from the same writer as Breasts Are My Favorite Things in the World! and The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious.

They’ve also got The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest 4.

Tentai Books gives us How to Melt the Ice Queen’s Heart (Koori no Reijou no Tokashi Kata), a light novel which seems to be a sweet high-school romance series.

Tokyopop has a 4th volume of Ossan Idol!.

Viz has a formerly print-only release now released to digital – all 19 omnibuses of it! If you haven’t heard of Ranma 1/2, I’m sorry, I don’t know what to tell you.

SEAN: They’ve also got a digital release of Jump title Ayakashi Triangle, a series so ecchi it can’t appear on the normal Jump app. It’s from the To-Love-Ru creator, natch.

Yen On gives us Combatants Will Be Dispatched! 6, The Executioner and Her Way of Life 2, Goblin Slayer 12, In the Land of Leadale 3, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? 16, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Home Alone (the 5th in the series), and Reign of the Seven Spellblades 3.

Yen Press debut? We’ve got it. Captivated, by You (Muchuu sa, Kimi ni) is a one-shot short story collection from Enterbrain’s Comic Beam about strange high school kids, and has won some awards. It’s also a hardcover release. Anyone seeing the words “Comic Beam” should have already added this to their buy list.

Fenris As Other Characters: A Comparison Post

First, to compare one character to others, one needs a list of the character’s personality traits. Fenris’ can be summed up thusly:

Resilient

Pushes People Away (shows some signs of PTSD, as well...)

...Including the ugly sides of the mental trauma (Specifically Anger)

Blunt and Sarcastic

Carefully Kind

There are more, of course, but these major attributes give us the chance to compare him to others with these main traits. Oddly enough - or perhaps not oddly, considering how beloved this trope is - there are several honorable mentions that must be made. These honorable mentions will be below the main five, and may be added in a secondary list (there are just too many to count!). But for now, here they are: the five characters who most fit Fenris' main attributes:

(Note: there are spoilers for Dragon Age 2, Beauty and the Beast, Wolf’s Rain, Loveless, and Karneval below.)

1. Beast (Beauty and the Beast)

As always, I try to find a Disney character so that people can easily link the character in question to someone well known to them. For Fenris, the best match is the Beast. With anger issues brought about by his depression, he, too, hides, both physically and emotionally, pushes away the one he loves, and, when push comes to shove, protects them without question, showing off both traits #3 and #5. As for blunt, well, Beast certainly speaks his mind, though usually in an exceedingly rude manner.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) The Beast has a bad habit of acting childish, immediately dropping him a point. Then comes the depression again, which is less in line with PTSD and cripples him into unresponsiveness, even when his life is on the line. One of Fenris’ most prominent characteristics is his willingness to fight for his freedom. He does not give in, no matter how often he doubts and questions.

2. Garrett (Quest for Camelot)

Garrett, the main male character in Quest for Camelot, carries a lot of baggage. Screwed by life and circumstance, losing the one who cared about and believed in him, he went on the run, disappearing into the Forbidden Forest, where he lived alone. Snarky, sarcastic, with issues a mile wide, he represents the side of Fenris that has lived through far too much in far too short a time. Satisfies #s 1, 4, and 5.

Rating: ★★★✮☆ (3.5/5) Garrett may have problems, but he only faces them when pushed into a corner. Fenris faces his far faster, and warms up to the idea of working with others much quicker, as well. Still, Garrett shows that love, given easily, can brighten up even hearts trapped in darkness. Just like Fenris.

 3. Tsume (Wolf’s Rain)

Tsume carries even more baggage than the average anime side character, as he lost nearly all of his pack to humans - and the rest to a desire to live. I dithered over whether to choose him or Shinn Asuka for this slot, but eventually felt that Tsume’s relationship with Toboe trumped Shin Asuka’s PTSD. Especially since Tsume carried a literal scar from his traumatic moment in his life. In response to that trauma, he pushes others away and isolates himself, picks fights with others constantly and belittles their beliefs, to boot. In short, he’s got all the hallmarks of PTSD, plus the side bonus of hating humans about as much as Fenris hates mages. He carries with him a belief in self-reliance and offensive snark that is pretty much endless. But none of that stops him from deeply caring for Toboe, the “runt” of their little pack.

Rating: ★★★★✮ (4.5/5) The only thing separating Tsume from Fenris is the fact that half of his self-loathing comes from trying to run for safety, abandoning his pack to their fate. Fenris carries the shame of having killed the fog warriors who had taken him in, but the circumstances are still dissimilar enough to be, not cowardice on Fenris’ part, but a deep well of enforced obeisance after years of slavery. These altered circumstances led to a breakthrough for Fenris, while Tsume needed to join Kiba’s pack to find his own.

4. Aoyagi Ritsuka (Loveless)

Ritsuka is a young boy with a traumatic life. He pushes others away, is baldly honest, and has little patience for lies or manipulations. Yet despite how prickly he is, underneath he wants only to be loved and appreciated for who he is. The similarities between him and Fenris are stunning.

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Even Ritsuka’s life, as he runs from and battles someone haunting him (in his case, his mother), mirrors Fenris’. He must even deal with the traumas of his past and learn to love and be loved. Incredible. (Though, to note, his romance partner is... well, it’s not the healthiest of relationships.)

5. Gareki (Karneval)

Perhaps the most painful knowledge for me is the fact that few will recognize this comparison. Yet despite how often I searched for someone else, Gareki remained the first and foremost person I thought of when comparing Fenris to other characters. Gareki fulfills every bullet point on the list and more. He’s resilient and resourceful, even as he’s forced to survive on his own. His hatred for and dislike of nobles leads to him stealing from them, one of the few things he believes he can do with his limited power (at the time). Yet despite how often he pushes people away and baldly states his mind, his every action, large and small, is to help those who took him in and gave him a family, and to protect someone he hardly knows, simply because he sees they need help. Underneath his prickly outer shell lies a very kind person, and in the end, the aimless anger he sometimes shows is mostly directed straight at himself.

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) There isn’t a more perfect character to symbolize everything that Fenris is, and though Fenris warms up to Hawke in more romantic ways if you choose to romance him, his relationship with Nai is so, so close to how Fenris is with Azzan Hawke. No. Seriously. That’s it. Full stop.
