Marvel's Sauron, but his pterosaur mutation evokes an azhdarchid instead of the more conventional pterodactyloid. I don't think Spider-Man is happy any which way.

THE BIG REVEAL IN A THREE-PART STORY ARC -- WELCOME TO THE SAVAGE LAND, KIDS.

PIC INFO: Resolution at 770x1215 -- Spotlight on the concluding page, and the big reveal as to who the big bad was in this issue, none other than #Sauron, of course, from "WOLVERINE" Vol. 2 #69. May, 1993. Marvel Comics.

Anyway, I guess the head honchos over at Marvel decided to give ol' "beak face" an update for the '90s, hence the armored claws, feet, and "crown" he's donning here, but, personally, he remains a character who truly needs none of these trappings to make a point, and the torn pants and/or "jungle loin cloth" both work just as well for. Still remains a killer reveal, though, all in all.

Actually, scratch what I said about students finding it weird that Ted is a plant, because friendly reminder, Sauron, a.k.a. Karl Lykos, is also a professor in the comics.

So a giant plant man who’s married to a werewolf being a professor is probably pretty normal in comparison.

SAURON (MARVEL) IS GLORIOUS Pt 1

Quick intro for those who aren't familiar - Sauron is the name chosen by the scientist Karl Lykos when he turned himself into a dinosaur. That's right, he's the guy who doesn't want to cure cancer because he's a Dino supremacist.

He chose Sauron as a Tolkien fan

He must be so much fun to write. In addition to the who and what, he also has very strong opinions and a deep commitment to drama and histrionics. No time for Spider-Man's bullshit either.

Dude has crazy beef with birds in general but especially seagulls.

Lol, cowards. Also he rented that sailor suit and I'm so here for it.

See! I'd be pissed off too but I probably wouldn't be courting disaster by beefing with seagulls needlessly. No judgement though. After all, what's the worst that could happen from joining up with an ecoterrorist that can talk to animals/the Earth, and a small pink child that has to cause others pain to stay alive? Namor, apparently.

See? Best lines ever.

Sauron DGAF tho. He's always ready to throw hands, or claws, or wings.

More bird hatred, this time chickens. Also pictured - a love of sedition.

A good question, Curse! (The answer is yes, I'm pretty sure.) Sauron is clearly a purist where evolution is concerned, and maybe being unfair to birds that don't have access to Saurianization technology. Oh well, we stan a consistent and passionate king.

Next time, the hidden depths of Sauron and his quest for love.

Ah the debut of Man-spider. So this is where the cartoon got the design.

So both Warren and Peter got hit with a devolving ray, and for some reason, Peter turned into a giant spider and Warren into a bird instead of like… you know, monkeys. Also, man look how insanely good Golden’s artwork is, I just can’t get over that guy.
