Kappa
A kappa is a reptiloid kami with similarities to yōkai found in traditional Japanese folklore. Kappa can become harmful when they are not respected as gods. They are typically depicted as green, human-like beings with webbed hands and feet and turtle-like carapaces on their backs. A depression on its head, called its "dish" (sara), retains water, and if this is damaged or its liquid is lost (either through spilling or drying up), the kappa is severely weakened.
Pic by Duncan Hopkins
The kappa are known to favor cucumbers and love to engage in sumo wrestling. They are often accused of assaulting humans in water and removing a mythical organ called the shirikodama from their victim's anus.
The name kappa is a contraction of the words kawa (river) and wappa, a variant form of 童 warawa (also warabe) "child". Another translation of kappa is "water sprites". The kappa are also known regionally by at least eighty other names such as kawappa, kawako, kawatarō, gawappa, kōgo, suitengu.
It is also called kawauso 'otter', dangame 'soft-shelled turtle', and enkō 'monkey', suggesting it outwardly resembles these animals. The name komahiki or "steed-puller" alludes to its reputed penchant to drag away horses.
The kappa has been known as kawako in Izumo (Shimane Prefecture) where Lafcadio Hearn was based, and gatarō was the familiar name of it to folklorist Kunio Yanagita from Hyōgo Prefecture.
Kappa are said to be roughly humanoid in form and about the size of a child, inhabiting the ponds and rivers of Japan. Clumsy on land, they are at home in the water, and thrive during the warm months. They are typically greenish in color (or yellow-blue), and either scaly or slimy skinned, with webbed hands and feet, and a turtle-like carapace on their back. Inhuman traits include three anuses that allow them to pass three times as much gas as humans. Despite their small stature they are physically stronger than a grown man.
The kappa are sometimes said to smell like fish, and they can swim like them.
According to some accounts, a kappa's arms are connected to each other through the torso and can slide from one side to the other. While they are primarily water creatures, they do on occasion venture onto land. When they do, the "dish" on their head can be covered with a metal cap for protection.
A hairy kappa is called a hyōsube.
Kappa are usually seen as kami of the water. Their actions are from comparatively minor misdemeanors, such as looking up women's kimono if they venture too near to water, to outright malevolence, such as drowning people and animals, kidnapping children, raping women and at times eating human flesh. Though sometimes menacing, they may also behave amicably towards humans. While younger kappa are frequently found in family groups, adult kappa live solitary lives. However, it is common for kappa to befriend other yōkai and sometimes even people.
Folk beliefs claim the cucumber as their traditional favorite meal. At festivals, offerings of cucumber are frequently made to the kappa. Sometimes the kappa is said to have other favorite foods, such as the Japanese eggplant, soba (buckwheat noodles), nattō (fermented soybeans), or kabocha (Japanese pumpkin).
In Edo (old Tokyo), there used to be a tradition where people would write the names of their family members on cucumbers and send them afloat into the streams to mollify the kappa and prevent the family from coming to harm in the streams. In some regions, it was customary to eat cucumbers before swimming as protection, but in others it was believed that this act would guarantee an attack.
A cucumber-filled sushi roll is known as a kappamaki.
As water monsters, kappa have been blamed for drownings, and are often said to try to lure people into water and pull them in with their great skill at wrestling. They are sometimes said to take their victims for the purpose of drinking their blood, eating their livers, or gaining power by taking their shirikodama, a mythical ball said to contain the soul, which is located inside the anus.
Kappa have been used to warn children of the dangers lurking in rivers and lakes, as kappa have been often said to try to lure people to water and pull them in. Even today, signs warning about kappa appear by bodies of water in some Japanese towns and villages.
Kappa are also said to victimize animals, especially horses and cows. The motif of the kappa trying to drown a horse is found all over Japan.
Lafcadio Hearn wrote of a story in Kawachimura near Matsue where a horse-stealing kappa was captured and made to write a sworn statement vowing never to harm people again.
In many versions the kappa is dragged by the horse to the stable where it is most vulnerable, and it is there it is forced to submit a writ of promise not to misbehave.
It was believed that there were a few means of escape if one was confronted with a kappa. Kappa are obsessed with politeness, so if a person makes a deep bow, it will return the gesture. This results in the kappa spilling the water held in the "dish" (sara) on its head, rendering it unable to leave the bowing position until the plate is refilled with water from the river in which it lives. If a person refills it, the kappa will serve that person for all eternity. A similar weakness of the kappa involves its arms, which can easily be pulled from its body. If an arm is detached, the kappa will perform favours or share knowledge in exchange for its return.
Another method of defeat involves shogi or sumo wrestling: a kappa sometimes challenges a human being to wrestle or engage in other tests of skill. This tendency is easily used to encourage the kappa to spill the water from its sara. One notable example of this method is the folktale of a farmer who promises his daughter's hand in marriage to a kappa in return for the creature irrigating his land. The farmer's daughter challenges the kappa to submerge several gourds in water. When the kappa fails in its task, it retreats, saving the farmer's daughter from the marriage. Kappa have also been driven away by their aversion to iron, sesame, or ginger.
Kappa are not entirely antagonistic to human beings.
Once befriended, kappa may perform any number of tasks for human beings, such as helping farmers irrigate their land. Sometimes, they bring fresh fish, which is regarded as a mark of good fortune for the family receiving it. They are also highly knowledgeable about medicine, and legend states that they taught the art of bone setting to human beings. There are also legends that Kappa will save a friendly human from drowning.
Along with the oni and the tengu, the kappa is among the best-known yōkai in Japan.
The kappa is known by various names of the creature vary by region and local folklore. In Shintō, they are often considered to be an avatar (keshin) of the Water Deity or suijin.
Shrines are dedicated to the worship of kappa as water deity in such places as Aomori Prefecture or Miyagi Prefecture. There were also festivals meant to placate the kappa in order to obtain a good harvest, some of which still take place today. These festivals generally took place during the two equinoxes of the year, when the kappa are said to travel from the rivers to the mountains and vice versa.
The best known place where it has been claimed Kappa reside is in the Kappabuchi waters of Tōno in the Iwate Prefecture. The nearby Jōkenji In Tōno, there is a Buddhist temple that has komainu dog statues with depressions on their heads reminiscent of the water-retaining dish on the kappa's heads, said to be dedicated to the kappa which according to legend helped extinguish a fire at the temple. The Kappa is also venerated at the Sogenji Buddhist temple in the Asakusa district of Tokyo where according to tradition, a mummified arm of a Kappa is enshrined within the chapel hall since 1818.
In his Tōno Monogatari, Kunio Yanagita records a number of beliefs from the Tōno area about women being accosted and even impregnated by kappa. Their offspring were said to be repulsive to behold, and were generally buried.
Similar folklore can be found in Asia and Europe. Like the Japanese description of the beast, in Chinese and in Scandinavian lore this beast is infamous for kidnapping and drowning people as well as horses.
The siyokoy of the Philippine islands is also known for kidnapping children by the water's edge.
A frog-face vodyanoy is known in Slavic mythology. A green human-like being named a vodník is widely known in western Slavic folklore and tales, especially in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.
In German mythology, a similar creature is known as Wassermann, Nix, or Nickel. They have been mentioned in connection with the larger rivers Elbe and Saale in the eastern part of Germany, but they are most widely connected to Lusatia in South-East Germany. This is not entirely surprising, as the area is not only close to Poland and Czech Republic, but also home to the Slavic minority of the Sorbs.

It's WIP Werewolves' Werewolf Wednesday!
So since I play Clan Wolf Kappa Galaxy (Which is nicknamed the Werewolves) I thought it would be funny to get them a Werewolf Battlemech. Is this technically a totem mech? Yes, to me at least. The ears were an addition by me cause I thought the head was lacking something. It's still work in progress, I also need to think up some silly lore as to how a Solaris Gladiator Mech ended up in Clan Wolf hands. I do however plan when I'm weathering it to have some bits of the old paint job peaking through. I also wanna make a custom IIC variant using Megamek labs or something. Maybe give it some enhanced sensors or comms cause of the ears.

Welcome, Overview & Navigation
Under consistent development~
Hello, my friends and welcome ! My name is Nor and my pronouns are she/it/he interchangeably !
p.s. while i base quite a lot of my headcannons off of the common variations of the omegaverse - most of the following headcannons are of my own creation !
Ok, so starting from the beginning:
In the Omegaverse / A/B/O universe there is, in addition to “regular” sex and gender, a secondary sex/secondary gender(s). These are what I call Classification’s.
These Classifications are as followed:
All of these traits depend on the individual but they are the most common.
Alpha-Centric: about 28% of the population. Often in positions of power, always stronger and occasionally taller than Betas and Omegas, higher energy (comparatively), brash, protective of their own & their possessions. Alphas also go through Ruts.
Alpha • True Alphas are the epitome of the strong, dominant, pack leader attitude.
Iota • In comparison to True Alphas, Iotas are more motherly but still quite brash.
Sigma • Sigmas have much weaker urges and instincts.
Beta-centric: about 30% of the population, larger than Omegas but smaller than Alphas (relatively), amazing at purring, good pack mates.
Beta • True Betas are not just neutral. Betas have specific scents/behaviors/traditions, they’re the best classification at purring, very adaptable.
Delta • Deltas are Betas with some Alpha urges.
Gamma • Gammas are Betas with some Omega urges.
Omega-centric: about 23% of the population. On average they’re smaller than both Alphas and Betas. Often they end up as parents or homemakers. They go through Heats.
Omega • True Omegas are what you think of when you think A/B/O. Parental, submissive, defferant to their mate.
Zeta • In comparison to True Omegas, Zetas are more dominant - still not as much as Alpha variants but they’re on the level of a Sigma or powerful Beta variant.
Theta • Thetas have much weaker urges and instincts.
Kappa • about 8% of the population. Kappa’s are individuals with dual secondary gender’s - essentially they’re switches. For instance an Alpha-Beta or a Gamma-Delta could simply call themselves the all encompassing Kappa.
and
Epsilon • about 11% of the population. Epsilon’s are the only man-made secondary gender. Epsilons occur when someone takes enough suppressors that they loose their original instincts, urges, and scent.

Introduction Post

I’M A BAD BITCH YOU CAN’T KILL ME!
hiya! name's Blake. you might recognize me, you might not. rotomblr is confusing with all the multiverse stuff. basically, I'm an ex-champion who's kinda just doing my own thing now. saved the world a few times. met a few gods. y'know, the usual. I even died once! technically. oh, and I’m a university student at Blueberry Academy! mostly here to post about my Pokémon- but my friends Hop and Auberi have access to this blog too, so you might see them on here occasionally.
also!! I have a wonderful partner here’s his blog: @thunderblessedhero I love him sm
that's pretty much all you need to know, I think! signing out!
-Blake

Auberi Bellerose- 21, they/them, demisexual/greyromantic
Hop Laventon- 20, he/him, asexual/biromantic
Blake- 21, they/them, pansexual/demiromantic

Current Arc: Frozen Over (ON PAUSE)
Mini Arc:
Summary:
———
OOC:
Pelipper Mail/Variants: ON (ex. Pelipper Malice, Musharna Mail, etc.)
Union Circle: ON (for short visits, it’s fine, but if it’ll be a lengthier visit to Blake’s universe I would like to discuss beforehand)
Magic Anons: ON (within reason, nothing permanent)
other rp blogs: @thunderblessedhero @partnersintime @scarlet-rider @pokehorsegirl @bisharpenjoyer @coolguyhilbert @keldeochamp1on @weirdcelebi @sapphireseafarer @justanothercastelian @winged-golden-wanderer @sword-reborn
Warnings: mentions of past trauma will be brought up occasionally on this blog, and will be tagged accordingly. mod is also an adult, so there could potentially be suggestive content from time to time- but I’ll try to avoid anything explicit.
Boundaries: not super strict rules on who can interact! eebies, legendaries, sapient ‘mons, etc. I might be a little more iffy towards crossover blogs, I’m sorry ;w; nothing wrong with them, it’s just a personal boundary of mine. I’ll try to make a post as some point elaborating further
flirty and/or suggestive interactions from adult muses WITH adult muns are fine towards Blake and Auberi. I do not feel comfortable with anyone attempting those kinds of interactions with Hop. and while flirting is fine, I would prefer if you got in touch with me and asked for my thoughts before having your character pursue any kind of romantic relationship with them.
also, in character hate is allowed! just yknow, don’t go too overboard with it.
Info about my OC:
basically Blake is my protag in several pkmn games, specifically SW/SH, X/Y, and B/W! the timeline of those games’ stories are in that specific order in my OCverse. (Pretty much any semblance of a canon timeline in the games is destroyed in my OCverse, except for any games w/ sequels like Gen1/Gen2 or BW/BW2. I’ll probably put together a proper timeline eventually, but essentially it’s just in the order I played all the games. Rn that order is FRLG -> HGSS -> SM -> ORAS -> SWSH -> XY -> DPPT/BDSP -> BW -> PLA -> SV -> BW2)
Bio: Blake was born in Nuvema Town, where they lived until they were around seven before moving to Aspertia City. They lived there until they were about thirteen, before moving to Postwick in the Galar region with their mother. There, they met one of their best friends, Hop. At the time, Blake was super closed off and shy, as their social anxiety made making friends difficult. The only one they’ve ever really let their guard down with was Hop. Watching Leon’s matches on TV with Hop was what inspired them to become a trainer, though for many years they didn’t actually think it’d be possible for them- considering they came from a family who didn’t really like Pokemon, therefore they had nowhere near as much experience with them like Hop did. They feared their social anxiety would get in the way, too.
Once they were 16, they unexpectedly got their first Pokemon from Leon- a Sobble named Kappa. After getting endorsed by Leon and some encouragement from Hop, they agreed to sign up for the Gym Challenge. They had a rocky start- losing battles pretty frequently was putting a huge dent in their already low self-esteem, and it was impacting Kappa as well. But over time they learned the ropes of being a trainer and was quickly becoming a rising star amongst the Gym Challengers. They went on to stop the Darkest Day along with Hop, catch Eternatus, become champion, and earn the trust of Zacian.
During their reign as champion, they trained at the Isle of Armor and explored the Crown Tundra. These small adventures slowly helped them realize just how much pressure their title was putting on them- and finally caused them to slip up during the final match of the next year’s Gym Challenge.
After losing their title, they decided to look for a new path- which lead them to Kalos, where they helped in putting a stop to Team Flare’s plan and caught Yveltal, and eventually back to Unova, where they fought against Team Plasma alongside Reshiram. Following the defeat of Plasma, they’ve enrolled as a college student at Blueberry Academy- and have done quite a lot in the past two years, such as visiting the Paldea region and catching more Pokémon. Now, they’ve returned to Unova, and are resting after having helped in the fight against Kyurem.
Blake is also the main character in my comics, Adventures in Kalos (on my instagram @/xgolden_latiasx) and Unova Fates (on Tumblr, insta, and webtoon). this blog will probably contain spoilers for those comics!
their ref:
More rules/info/explanations/etc.:
all three of these characters are friends with multiple legendaries, so if they seem overpowered to you… sorry? I’m just having fun over here. they don’t really use any of them for battle that often, though they might threaten to sic their legendary on someone as a joke (but they won’t actually). but as of right now the only legendary that’s actively with the group is Reshiram, he’s the only one who’ll get involved in whatever shenanigans/event the gang finds themselves in. (Unless I’m participating in an event from another person and they say they don’t want Reshiram involved.)
I’m relatively willing to join in on high stakes stuff as long as I feel up to it, but please ask me first if you want one of my characters to actively participate somehow.
also, this blog runs with the idea that Rotomblr is a weird site that links other universes together. So for example say if… Kalos is blowing up or something on another person’s blog and someone tries to get Auberi involved, I’m just going to say it’s happening in a different universe. Or if a different SWSH/XY/BW/PLA protag character tries to interact.
please please please also understand that I have realllllly bad social anxiety and awkwardness. I apologize if it takes me a while to respond to something, or if my replies seem short and uninterested (I promise I’m interested in the conversation I’m just bad at words). or long and ramble-y. please tell me to shut the fuck up if you need me to

Super Kappa Bros AU
Major Bullet Points
Woahhh everything’s mario now!
The Hidden City is actually the mario world
The Yokai are actually just mario creatures, as are mutants
Will go into the brothers’ species in quick summary
Baron Draxum made the four brothers to enslave humanity
Same gist, but he used mario world (species) dna
I’m gonna keep most info the same, for the simplicity of it
But there’s definitely changes and alterations
Quick summary:
Firstly, let’s get this out of the way. Speed round!
Splinter is a variant of either mouser or little mouser
Raph is the same species as Bowser, maybe a koopaling?
Leo is a koopa (hear me out)
Donnie is a dry bones (BAM)
Mikey is a yoshi
April’s just a human, and all the other humans are normal-ish
MORE TO BE ADDED AS REFS ARE MADE
The four turtles were born as regular turtles, but got changed when they were given human dna, and the dna of specific ‘yokai’ species we mean mario species, and when this happened, they became members of the Hamato kingdom, and also were given myyyyystic powwwwerssss ooooh how maaaaagicallll!
OH MY GOD I'M GONNA MAKE THE SANDO BROTHERS FIRE & ICE FLOWERS CAUSE THAT IS SUCH A FUN IDEA OMG
April will always have a dangerous amount of hammer power ups on hand, and will literally just pull one out during a fight.
Making up a power up for Baron. A green and yellow daisy-esc flower called Flower Power! Which gives Barry the ability to make flowers rise from the floor as his platforms.
OKAY, I DECIDED that mutants are the only ones with inherited powers, because the Piders, now called Goopiders (which are our oozesquitoes), are what gives the powers.
This means that any non mutants that I specify a power for just happens to have A LOT of that specific power up item.
Hypno will have the Pal Pill ability
Groundhog will have the drill berry ability ofc
I think Honey Badger should actually have the rock mushroom
And then I think Prairie Dog should get a spring mushroom ability
Maybe Repo Mantis gets the pickaxe power up?
(For the simplicity of it, I may be more lenient about making up my own power up ideas for background or lesser known yokai or mutant characters. For instance, I don’t know a good plant power up for Baron Draxum that has to do with flowers :’])
These powers are in the form of mario power ups. The four turtles can’t use other power ups, unless it’s the consumable or touchable object that associates with them. Their body will reject it, and they may even feel dizzy (if they touched it) or sick (if they ate it). If the turtles eat or touch the item associated with their core power up though, it grows much much stronger for a temporary time.
So back on the unfamiliar-power-up thing real quick. The unfamiliar power ups can actually work, but they are INCREDIBLY unreliable for the turtles specifically. Often the power up will glitch, randomly turn off and on, and of course, the dizzy or sick feeling lasts till the power up is over. This is why the turtles try to avoid foreign power ups if possible.
Also, for another balancing thing, like how mystic magic works, the turtles do channel their powers better with weapons. Though the more magically skilled of the brothers can use powers without weapons. Also, also, while I imply that the turtles can use their powers whenever, it does take significant energy. This won’t be a problem usually, but if the turtles haven’t had lunch yet, or haven’t eaten in a while, they’ll feel more tired each time they use their powers.
Raph’s power up is normally granted by the Mega mushroom, which allows him to turn even bigger than he was before. He turns about half his mystic’s size, and with a Mega Shroom on top of that, he can grow as big as his mystic size too. Thankfully, Mega Shrooms are very common, and Raph runs a little garden to grow these shrooms. Raph was the first to awaken his power.
Leo’s power up is normally granted by the P-Wing (super specific, I know lol), and specifically the one from the game “Super Mario 3D Land”. This allows Leo to teleport anywhere that’s in his eyesight range. This may seem overpowered, but he has to be able to focus on the place he wants to teleport heavily, and can’t get distracted mid teleport, or he may go somewhere else, or teleport into an object. Leo got his power up second to last.
Donnie’s power up is normally granted by the Drill Mushroom, which would turn Donnie into a drill (haha drill out of beta lolol). Donnie took the longest to unlock his powers, partly because of an envious jealousy about not being able to understand the logic behind the innate core-ness of the power ups within them, and also because he was scared of using his power up. We’ll get into that in a bit…
Mikey’s power up is usually granted by Bulb Berries, which usually turn specifically Yoshis very bright, like a light bulb. While it can provide a light source, the bulb power up can also be great for blinding foes, since Mikey can decide how bright he wants to be. That being said, the brighter he makes himself, the more energy it takes. Mikey was the second turtle of the brothers to unlock his power up.
So, as we stated before, Donnie was scared of using his power up. I don’t know exactly how I’m gonna make this work, but Dry Bones can rebuild themselves, and I head-canon that they need to do it themselves, and can only rebuild themselves if they have all their pieces (kind of like the dark armor kettle if you remember). I’m gonna somehow have it that Donnie was missing a few pieces of his shell after an incident.
I think he’d still be okay, as stated, Dry Bones can build up again, but it’s much easier to break his shell, which doesn’t really hurt since it’s not as attached to him as it used to be, but it also makes his unprotected body hidden within the shell a lot more fragile. So yeah, one day he and Mikey (teens) are hanging out, and Donnie accidentally does his drill power when he starts to get a bit too frustrated.
This actually does hurt him quite a bit, and his shell shatters again, likely from the messy bone tornado that Donnie became when his power activated. He and Mikey both panicked, even after he stopped spinning around, and he was rather badly injured, since he probably ran into a wall or two during the mess. I think he would assure Mikey he would be able to take care of himself, and probably plead to his little brother not to mention the power up thing (out of embarrassment).
Mikey would hesitantly agree, and you know how he hates lying and keeping secrets, so you’d see the stress until Donnie finally comes to terms and tells his brothers about it. I think he would eventually make something like the battle shell, like a stronger, more durable covering that keeps the shell in one piece when he does the drill spin, and eventually he’d learn to stay in one piece and navigate better during the power usage.
Wow, this is getting really long… Uh… I’ll put more info later I guess. We’ll see, lol. I might put more in a fic if people would want to read a fic on this thing. I think it’d be super fun :]
So yeah, I’m still calling them yokai btw for the simplicity of it. I also don’t think it’d be too farfetched either, since the Mario company is Nintendo, and that originated in Japan anyways :’)
Dang, I'm gonna have to reorganize this later, but whatever...

So I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure what's up with the series spanning boss monster, Bad News. (That is in fact its Japanese name, and not a translation: BA-DDO-NYUU-SU[バッドニュース])
It started in the original Wild Arms Ancient Arena as a big caveman with a club? His weird spooky eyes lit up beneath the darkness of an animal pelt cowl --it even appears to have little ears that sit on top its head and fans that frame its face. (It shares this model with the monsters Gigaflame and Gigafrost.)
But then starting with Wild Arms 2 he appears to be some kind of monster prowrestler, even having a tag-team partner, "Murdoch." And the returning Gigaflame and Gigafrost monsters are distinctly unrelated looking now as monstrous, almost kappa-like looking, giants/cavemen.(WA2 also introduced a Gigacloud and Gigapoison who would never be seen again.)
Then Wild Arms 3 got clever and the Bad News boss is actually just Ortega, the guy running the Gunners Heaven arena signup desk, who, after watching you kill his boss who'd just turned into a monster, decides you've impressed him... so this completely normal man takes on your party of 4 armed adventurers with his bare hands. He does also noticeably fight like a prowrestler and, at least in English, references Bad News as his "old ring name," so that's got adjacency with the WA2 design.
From there the other games all use the same model, it's a mostly normal looking guy with little oni horns, tiger stripe pro wrestling pants and boots, and a bamboo practice sword like some old fashioned Japanese gym teacher(is that even still a cliche people recognize? I had a surprisingly hard time finding examples... I feel like maybe it was already pretty outdated even when these games were coming out)...
The horns, general build and bodyhair, posture with the shinai(instead of a club or tetsubo), and the tiger print pants(rather than loin cloth) all point toward a spin on classic japanese Oni, which are sort of adjacent to the original caveman look. (Although if anything the original Gigaflame and Gigafrost would've passed as a red oni+Blue Oni duo, yet none of their designs seem to embrace that.)
Although the Tiger stripes on wrestling gear can't help but be at least a tiny bit evocative of Tiger Mask, which kinda goes back to the original having the wildcat pelt?
F in particular has two of them in a red pants and green pants variant, possibly as a throwback to WA2's Bad News and Murdoch?
Oh wait duh... Bad News Brown/Bad News Allen, real name Allen Coage, was an actual pro wrestler in Japan during the 70s-80s who broke into the American scene in the late 80s. So I doubt this isn't referencing him at least a little bit.
Also weirdly enough the final designs for Gigaflame and Gigafrost later in the series do seem to loop back around to looking like prowrestlers also, at least as far as the shorts and the belts go.

The Melody of a Story AU (CrossoverMelody-story)
TheMelodyOfAStory AU (CrossoverMelody-Story) belong to @imoonblaze
thanks for @some-multifandom-stories for helping me to find a name for this AU
What is this AU?
It is a universe where there is a crossover between different fandoms and different universes, the curious detail here is that… each character is a magical or mystical creature! They even live exposed to the magic of this world.
In this AU there are different creatures and kingdoms in all the confines of this alternate universe. There are different types of magic that make up the variety of powers and spells that its inhabitants can possess, although in its uses it can be used for attacks, defense, healing, invocation and among others.
But although it sounds like a magical fantasy world and with a lot of wonder to show, don't trust it, there are also dangers and dark forces and creatures that can be a threat if you have no idea how to guide yourself or be very careful where you walk.
What magical or mythical creatures exist?
In this world there is a great variety of creatures or races that fill this Au with life, among them there are:
-Harpies -Sirens -Faeries -Ajins (or geniuses) -Nymphs -Goblins
-Elves -Fauns -Ghost -Demons -Angels -Dragons
-Beastmen (insects, marine, flying, reptiles, transmutable creatures etc)
-wizards (sorcerers, alchemists, witches) -clerics (exorcists, nuns)
-creatures of dreams and nightmares -vampires -trolls -puppetry
-living inanimate objects -zombies -toys or dolls
.yokais (onis, kappas, Kitsunes, tanukis, nekomatas, etc)
AND MANY MORE!...
What magic, spells or powers are there?
There are a variety of powers and types of magic that each creature possesses, such powers usually have categories or classifications or are already specific to each race. These would be:
-Elementals (fire, water, air, earth, etc)
-Psychics
-supernatural
-summoning magic
-healing
-alchemy
-creation magic
-taming or taming of beasts
-delusions
-music or harmony
-white magic (light, energy, purification)
-black magic (darkness, corruption)
-gray magic (an intermediate point between white and black but its dangerousness or safety will depend on its use and the morality of the person who uses it)
-red magic (just as dangerous as black magic but it is a mystery, its counterpart is blue magic)
-blue magic (just as safe as white magic but it is a mystery, its counterpart is red magic)
-purple/violet/purple magic (just like gray magic is intermediate between blue and red...its dangerousness or safety will depend on its use and the morality of the user).
What places exist within this Au?
So far there is only this information that speaks a little about this world except not the locations, towns, kingdoms and others, since it is barely in development so a map for it will still be thinking as the concept ends.
How do they get their powers?
The way to obtain this magic depends on the genetic inheritance of both parents to the son/daughter, either inherited from one of them or a fusion/variant of both powers
However, there is also the one that they can learn other types of magic and spells in addition to the one they are born with, giving them the possibility of acquiring more abilities and greater possibilities.
But also, it is common for some races or depending on the individual to be born without any power.
What categories or classes of occupations exist in this world?
In this world there are different occupations or categories that the character can decide to be if it refers to combat and adventure, among them there are:
-Warrior -goalkeeper -magician -medicine man -cleric
-alchemist -explorer -Puppeteer -fighter
How do you get to this world?
The way to get there is complicated, since many other AUs do not know how to travel to this universe so far. The way it would be achieved would be to find hidden portals or that appear randomly anywhere in some universe (in all or some), mostly some opened by someone else or by a being of greater power.
In case it is discovered, there would be the possibility of creating an artifact or portal that needs some energy source to keep it active or thanks to the use of an object that you can find but rarely.
Creator deity?
Unknown so far.

"This is how it is pronounced in greek". Bitch in what world you have native greek words with C in them, you buffoon.
Modern greek isn't my strength, I'll give you that, but even to my knowledge there is no letter or sound corresponding to the one C makes. Especially since English C has at least 2 variants I can think on top of my head (isn't there like a joke how every 'C' is pronounced differently in Pacific Ocean?)
All words coming from greek usually did so through Latin, hence we have things like Cerberus, even though it is spelled with kappa instead. But contrary to english, both Latin and Greek are almost entirely consistent with pronunciation. The very few exceptions are either diphtongs, which can sway both ways, or gamma for anatomical reasons (you cannot pronounce gamma correctly in positions to other pharyngeal consonants, you'd suffocate yourself, so the G sound goes to N sound. That's why we have words like sfinx, sphigks (σφίνγξ)).
So if you want to pronounce things "the correct way", here assuming greek, then Scylla requires you to make K sound. Ypsilon is not pronounced as I in any way shape or form, otherwise iota would be kind of redundant, so if I hear you say it like "silla" or godsforbid "sila", I'm stealing something from your house.
But alas, since game is english and inspiration can be drawn however you fancy, you can also just say you're not sure how to pronounce that and make that shit up. Have you read Sarah J Maas abominations of names? But please don't postulate as somebody who is smarter than everyone in the room, when your smartassness can be proven wrong with Google in 1 second.

My paninaro dictionary, a useful guide to some of the most common terms:
Like other subcultures Paninari had their own terminologies, most sadly lost to time.
While reading through this it’s easy to note some similarities in the origin for many of the words:
1. Terms derived from TV advertising (for example Calfor being a descaling detergent)
2. Terms derived from technology, thanks to the diffusion of the first computers (“ram” and “floppy”)
3. The excessive use of english or anglicised terms, probably because of the music they listened to. “Everyday” meaning all the time but also blending italian and english together in “arrapation”
4. American cinema’s influence (“Ramboso”)
This is a list of some of the most useful words to know to be able to understand magazines and such from the time.
Paninaro = derived from Panino (sandwich) + aro (-er), so literally means sandwicher. Comes from the fact that they used to hang out at fast food places (like the iconic but now defunct Burghy), that were at the time very new to Italy.
Al brucio = as fast as possible
Amburghese = a “galletto” that always gets rejected by girls
Appiovrare = to pick up a girl like an octopus
Arterio = someone old
Broccolare = trying to pick up someone
Burghino = synonym of paninaro
Calfort = synonym of damn (“what the calfort are you doing?”)
Cifra = literally number, in this case means a lot (ex. I like him a cifra)
Cinese = literally means Chinese, in this case someone left leaning (would never use this one, but included it because it was pretty commonly used)
Cinghio = “tamarro”, someone or something crude
Ciumba = Woh! Good heavens!
Company = like today’s “squad”, a group of friends
Compilation = a group of something cohesive
Cucador = the macho
Cuccare = to win a girl over
Everyday = all the time
Falchettare = “spotting” a girl
Floppy = analogy of flop
Forte = a lot
Fuori di melone = out of your mind
Gallo = literally means rooster, in this case means boy
Gargarozzo/a = throat
Gino = loser
Giusto = literally means right, here used as excellent
Grano = money (literally means grain)
Grippare = to grip
Kiss = well, kiss haha (variants are kissetti, kissettoni, kissettini)
Libidine = pleasure, enjoyment
Mitragliare = to enjoy something (for example sandwiches) with greed or pleasure
Okappa = literally is how you’d reas O.K. in italian (Oh Kappa)
Panozzo = sandwich (derived from panino)
Ram = something to forget (taken from the computer’s RAM)
Ramboso = tough, derived from Rambo (the character)
Randa = derived from randagio meaning stray (in a positive way)
Ruotare = meaning to rotate, used as “to take a motorcycle ride”
Sapiens = parents
Sballo = something fun
Schiaffazzi = slaps
Sfitinzia = a girl
Smerigliare il/la gargarozzo/a = to eat
Squallor = something bad
Tamarro = someone crude, not a paninaro
Tarocco = a fake
Very appreciation = very sexy
Very original = very original haha
It was also common to shorten words, for example “Timbe” meaning Timberland, “Curma” for Courmayeur.

Some other notes on ikuhara's titles
Shoujo Kakumei Utena, aka Revolutionary Girl Utena that we all love. Pretty straight forward translation, right? Well, yes and no. Despite it being almost universally accepted, ikuhara himself advocates for translation Girls' Revolution Utena, which encompasses the series very well.
Mawaru Penguindrum. I talk more about its title here, but I can imagine the translator scratching their head when seeing it. What the hell is a penguindrum? Is it spinning? Why is it written like that? My personal favorite variant is Russian Крутится-вращается пингвиний барабан. It's got rhythm, but it's so ridiculously long.
Yurikuma Arashi is probably the wildest sounding one when translated. The storm of bears and lilies? What's that supposed to mean? Well, it's a reference to Yoshimura Akira's "Bear Storm" (kuma arashi), a novel based on the Sankebetsu Bear Incident, in which brown bears terrorized Japanese villagers. Which makes me think yuri here doesn't literally mean flower, but rather it's a mod to the yuri genre. So, in the end, we have something like "lesbian bear storm"
Sarazanmai. Ah. The one people gave up translating. And for a good reason! 😁 First of all, sarazanmai itself, similar to penguindrum, is some kind of spell that the boys use during their kappa shenanigans. The title is originally written in hiragana, but Sara 皿 means a plate, and zanmai 三昧 means a state of concentration on or being absorbed in something. So, imagine the boys screaming Concentrating on the plates! When the reach the climax of the song lol. Or, it can also be written 皿三枚 aka three plates. Simple and cute :)
#utena#mawaru penguindrum#sarazanmai#yka#I was supposed to make this post later but why not now? Gonna be busy in the next week or so

All the Youkaimatsus so far
JExcept sets that have all of them as the same youkais (Nekomata, Tanuki and the various Kitsune sets from Tabimatsu)
Pinup Poster from the Osomatsu Character Book #6 (July 2016)
A classic. The very first iteration of Youkaimatsu. Kind of hard to find since it was a bonus poster from the character book, so unless you were actively looking for the book, you wouldn’t find this.
Osomatsu - Kitsune (unknown how many tails he has but is often depicted in fan artworks as 6 or 9, 9 meaning strongest/wisest a kitsune has been, Spirit Fox)
Karamatsu - Karasu-Tengu (pun on Kara, Bird Man)
Choromatsu - Dodomeki (usually a woman cursed with long arms littered with many bird eyes because of greed. Most popular one imo)
Ichimatsu + ESP Nyanko - Nekomata (Two-tailed cat, legend says that cats who live longer than a 100 years gain a second tail)
Jyushimatsu - Rokurobi (available in two flavors. Long Neck and Floating Head. He is the former. Theorized to not actually be a youkai but created for entertainment. Also used as a literary device for a wandering soul.)
Todomatsu - Yukki Onna (Also a joke on Todo being scared stiff. Yuki Onna pull tricks on humans that usually end on the person’s death via cold. Has a harsh and soft side)
Youkai Units from The Great Youkai War event from Hesokuri Wars (November 2016)
Most popular Youkaimatsu set, this baby could get milked for miles, but for some reason isn’t. Has a lot of variants (Awakened, Darkness, Snow, Sakura and Hyakki Yagyou) and connected to a lot of other sets: Denki Mystery, Colorless Overalls, Mononoke and a bunch of others. She is the top DOGG set.
Osomatsu - Shuten-Douji (Oni Leader with a penchance for Sake, literally carrying a big ass bottle of it on his back, since he is the leader of the sextuplets and the one seen drinking beer the most)
Karamatsu - Aoandon (Summoned after 100 supernatural stories are told. Originated from the blue (ao) paper lanterns (andon) that were sometimes used to give a chilling atmosphere)
Choromatsu - Daitengu (Great Tengu, Tengus were theorized to be ascended souls, but also has its origins in a Dog Beast that looked like a comet. For some reason Dog Beast turned into Bird Man. The bird man’s beak is often anthropomorphized into long noses. Tells humanity to behave by throwing invisible stones at them)
Ichimatsu - Nine-tailed Kitsune (So wise. So powerful)
Jyushimatsu - Inugami (Dog God that possesses people)
Todomatsu - Bake-Danuki (also known as tanuki, mischievous spirits, mostly known in pop culture for their BIG FAT NUTS)
Dayon is a miko, a shrine maiden. Hatabou is an Onmyoji, an exorcist, Dekapan is a kannushi, a shrine priest. Totoko and Iyami are regular civillians
Youkai Hyakki Yagyou merchandise from Animate Girls Festival (September 2017)
One of the lesser known sets, considering that it’s just designs for a line of merch but their designs are so good? Why don’t people use these designs more often.
Osomatsu - Karasu-Tengu
Karamatsu - Nine-tailed fox
Choromatsu - Shuten-Douji (A possible reference to Season 1 Episode 2 where he gets the most drunk?)
Ichimatsu - Mizuchi (Legendary Water Serpent/Dragon)
Jyushimatsu - Kamaitachi (Beast that rides on dust devils. Cuts people using it’s scythe-like nails. The wounds are sharp but painless)
Todomatsu - Ungaikyou (A haunted mirror that can be used to trap spirits. The spirits in the ungaikyou can manipulate the reflection shown on it’s reflection.)
Kitsune Servant Set from Tabimatsu (September 2017)
Ok I know I said I wouldn’t cover the Kitsune sets from Tabimatsu since there are like 5 different Kitsune sets, but this one is noteworthy cause they have secondary Youkai traits other than the regular kitsune traits.
Osomatsu - Oni’s horns
Karamatsu - Tengu’s wings
Choromatsu - Orochi around his neck
Ichimatsu - True Kitsune (Or Nekomata’s paw?)
Jyushimatsu - Wanyudo (Flaming Wheel)
Todomatsu - I don’t know, but there’s something around his neck?
Japanese Youkai set from Shimamatsu (January 2018)
Shimamatsu was such a good game, what a shame it ended so soon. The 3D models were so cute. Edit: The two designs are from before and after evolution!
Osomatsu - Enma-san (A wrathful god in charge of judging souls in the afterlife. Resides over hell)
Karamatsu - Yamato no Orochi (Eight headed and Eight-tailed serpent/dragon)
Choromatsu - Kamaitachi (wields an actual scythe)
Ichimatsu - Youkai Catman or a Bakaneko (Catboy, furry)
Jyushimatsu - Yobuko (lives in the mountains, repeats whatevers shouted into the mountain, explains the phenomemon of Echos)
Todomatsu - Yuki Otoko (Snowman, a Yuki Onna basically)
“Inn” Osoma and Choroe from Osomatsu Season 2 Episode 17
A BUNCH OF PEOPLE REMINDED ME AND HOW COULD I FORGET THE BEST YOUKAI EVER. Osoma baby,,,, I’m so sorry..... Srsly, this skit was so good, I hope they make more skits like this where they make entirely new characters out of the framework of the sextuplets.
Osoma - A Zashiki-warashi, child spirits who live in store rooms or extra rooms, they died buried in their homes. Pranksters but meeting one is said to bring good fortunes to families. Osoma gets crossovered a lot with the other Youkai sets in JP fanart. A popular pairing is Dodomeki Chorosuke (from Denki Mystery) and Osoma also Kitsune Osomatsu (from the poster) and Osoma.
Choroe - Not necessarily a youkai, in fact in the episode she’s presented as just a regular human. But is theorized often to be a Yama-uba. An old woman banished to the mountains. She provides shelter to weary travelers (in the myth it’s just a humble shelter but you know. an inn is also considered a shelter) before eating them. In one story she eats the recently birthed baby of a woman who had to give birth in the mountains.
Mononoke from Hesokuri Wars (May 2019)
Technically they are all the same type of being, Mononoke, but they look different from each other. Mononoke can posses individuals and cause suffereing and even death. And technically they aren’t Youkais but Onryos, vengeful spirits. But Onryos can also be used to refer to youkais and truthfully I just wanna include this set cause their designs are so cool looking. This set’s attacks contain glimpses of units of other sets.
Osomatsu - Bear themed
Karamatsu - Wolf themed
Choromatsu - Rooster/Chicken themed
Ichimatsu - Spider
Jyushimatsu - Boar
Todomatsu - Bull or Ox
Edo Rock The Great Youkai Harvest Festival from Tabimatsu (October 2019)
This set is interesting cause rather than youkai alone, they are also musicians. This set also has another set like Hesokuri called The Great Youkai NEET which is basically the awakened versions, properly showcasing more of the youkai traits.
Osomatsu - Shuten-Douji (Again, we need to stage an intervention for you damn)
Karamatsu - Karasu-Tengu (Again)
Choromatsu - Mizuchi (actually riding said serpent)
Ichimatsu - Black Kitsune (Hot Topic, Goth version)
Jyushimatsu - Frog. Just. Frog. (could be a reference to the legend of Jiraiya, the ninja who could shapeshift into a frog/ride big frogs. His mouth is cover just like a ninja is too.)
Todomatsu - Kamaitachi (could be a reference to season 1 where Todomatsu wields a scythe)
Iyami - Oni (not sure if he’s any particular oni but he does have the horns and metal club)
Atsushi - Ibaraki-Douji? (White hair and singular horn, most imporant servant of Shuten-Douji)
Promo Merch from Sega Cafe collab (September 2020)
Edit: Thank you @zenryokubatankyu for notifying me! Another set of promo youkais! You can get them by random by ordering a drink or meal at the now-defunct Sega x Osomatsu collab cafe. And the return of F6? Damn I haven’t seen you since Season 2!
Osomatsu - Oni
Karamatsu - I’m not exactly sure but he seems like a Mizuchi, a water serpent/dragon. He also could be another legendary serpent/dragon though.
Choromatsu - Kappa
Ichimatsu + ESP Nyanko - Karasu-Tengu
Jyushimatsu - I’m not sure, at first i thought it might be a crab youkai judging from the legs, but upon closer inspection he has spider webs on his robes, so they may be spider legs instead. Could be a Jorogumo, a youkai that wields fire breathing spiders with it’s spider legs
Todomatsu - Bakaneko (I think? The veil could be the napkin a bakaneko puts on it’s head)
Ayakashi Sextuplet’s Retro Halloween Cafe merch from Web Kuji (October 2020)
Thank you @gradelstuff for telling me about this! Ayakashi are Youkai that appear above nearby bodies of water. Although the youkais they’re dressed up as (or are?) aren’t really what you would call ayakashi? Although it’s cafe themed, it isn’t actually from a cafe collaboration. These designs are merchandise meant to be won through lottery. So if say you really love Kara and Choro’s designs (I do), then tough luck buddy!
Osomatsu - Oni
Karamatsu - Now you may think he’s Dodomeki since he’s covered with eyes, but turns out there are two other eye-relateed youkai! Mokumokuren is a youkai phenomenon where eyes appear from torn paper walls and tatami floors, initially i thought this was it given the checkered pattern he was wearing. But he might actually be a Hyakume, a youkai covered head to toe in yellow eyes specifically. Underneath those eyes is a body of flesh roughly in the shape of a man. This Youkai isn’t particularly malicious, only detaching one of it’s many eyes to follow you and survey you for criminal activiy. He might also be a BackBeard, a youkai allegedly from the US, err that would make him a cryptid I guess? A Backbeard is often characterized as a shadow with a Yellow eye with a red iris in the center. Note: Backbeard’s true origins are not known as there doesn’t seem to be any cryprid called a Backbeard, it first entered the Japanese public eye as an antogonist in the show Gegege no Kitaro. Although ever since then this “yokai” has appeared in other media and games in Japan.
Choromatsu - He isn’t exactly dressed as it (only themed as it) but the youkai he represents is the one he’s holding, a Kasa-obake, One of my favorite youkais and it’s literally iconic. Thought to be a Tsukomogami, an object that gains a spirit after it turns 100 years old.
Ichimatsu - Edit: I’m not sure but he might be a Kuchisake-Onna. In the description attached to his teaser, it makes mention of specifically his wide smile, his dos dagger and his beautiful shirt. A kuchisake onna is a yokai that wanders in the street covering her face with a mask (skull mask for ichi) and a sharp object (his dos dagger). TW GORE DESCRIPTION: She asks you if you think she’s attractive and depending on your answer she muders you with her scissors, plunging it into you OR she takes off her mask showing her wide smile, her mouth slit at the corners to her ears and asks “how about now?” and depending on your reaction she cuts you in half with her sharp object OR she slits the corners of your mouth to look like hers. END DESCRIPTION. Ichi has the mask, sharp object, wide smile and “attractiveness”. Obviously it would be inappropriate to portray ichi in the same fashion as the kuchisake onna so he was probably given the internal organ tattoos to represent the gory yokai. (internal organs usually = gore in japan). This is speculah and he might be another youkai but this is all i can think of rn.
Jyushimatsu - sailor themed Jiangshi. Jiangshi are basically Zombies originally from Chinese culture. They hop around, and crave for life force. this little jyushimatsu has taken to tomato juice instead. (Bonus: the zombie that osomatsu is in the zombie set in hesokuri wars is also a Jiangshi)
Todomatsu - Kitsune (sly fox)
“The Night Path” Youkai from Osomatsu-san Season 3 Episode 6 (November 2020)
The latest and what sparked me to make this post tbh. This set reuses the Rokurobi design from the very first Youkaimatsu iteration! Full circle yo! I like to think of this set as an addition to the original youkaimatsu, since they’re both from the primary sources.
Jyushimatsu - Rokurobi (Again)
Totoko - Amabie (mermaid with three legs? prophesized about either good harvest or an epidemic, trivia: “Amabie” trended when Covid 19 hit the world)
Hatabou - Azukiarai (a youkai that originated from the sound of something like beans being washed near a river, anyone who comes near will fall into the river)
Dayon - Nopperabou (Faceless spirits that take the form of humans. They are harmless usually, they just scare humans)
Dekapan - Kappa (Mischievous River spirits)
That should be all of them!
Recap:
Osomatsu has been a Kitsune, Shuten-Douji (twice), Karasu-Tengu, Enma-san and an Oni
Karamatsu has been a Karasu-Tengu (twice), Aoandon, Kitsune, Yamato no Orochi and a Mizuchi (?)
Choromatsu has been a Dodomeki, Daitengu, Shuten-Douji, Kamaitachi, Mizuki and a Kappa (No repeats!)
Ichimatsu has been a Nekomata, Kitsune (twice), Mizuchi, Bakaneko and a Karasu-Tengu
Jyushimatsu has been a Rokurobi (twice-ish), Inugami, Kamaitachi, Yobuko, a Frog from Jiraiya and a Jorogumo (?)
Todomatsu has been a Yuki Onna (twice), Bake-danuki, Ungaikyou, Kamaitachi and a Bakaneko
You can definitely see a trend (lmao), I’m looking forward to more Youkaimatsus from Osomatsu-san!
bonus:
Osomatsu-san cameo from Yokai Watch!!!
