Summaries:
Sonny Boy: It’s an ordinary summer vacation...except for the fact that Nagara’s high school has mysteriously drifted into another dimension. As the students begin to develop strange new powers, will they work together to survive the alien environment and find a way home, or will their newly formed factions and rivalries turn on each other?
Usotoki; Sixteen-year-old Kanoko Urabe knows that someone is lying if she can hear the strange, echoing sound of clanging metal in their voice. As a young and overly honest child, she would point out the lies of other villagers, and was ostracized as a result. She is eventually forced to leave her hometown and tries to find a place for herself in the city of Tsukumoya in 1920s Japan.
In a chance encounter, Kanoko meets Souma Iwai, a gifted but penniless detective. After she is forced to demonstrate her ability, he expresses appreciation for what she can do and agrees to take her in, asking the girl to be his assistant. The Iwai investigation firm soon makes a name for itself helping clients by solving cases with Souma's sharp wits and Kanoko's power. In the process, Kanoko's life is enriched by the various people she encounters in her investigations.

Usotoki Rhetoric by Ritsu Miyako
Tumblr media
5/5
This post is for fan entertainment, I’m not being paid.
Hi everyone,
I finally got a copy of Usotoki Rhetoric, I love the premise of this manga.
Our main character Kanoko Urabe, in the being of the manga she is living her hometown which at the time was clear why she was leaving, the only thing that was said that her power is the cause of this.
So right off the bat, we got our mysterious main character which already got me hooked. I like stories that just ooze mysteries.
As Kanoko gets to the new town, we get to see her power when people talk. Kanoko can hear when someone lies. Being new in town would definitely help, with being new in town she won’t get tricked by kind-looking faces.
Now I like this part of this series because the power is a double edge sword, however I do find it odd that the main character who has a power like this is compelled to tell people that person A is lying.
As we see throughout the manga, having a power like this made growing up with this power hard for not only her but her family as well.
Now our next character and our male lead Sowa Iwai, who is a down on his luck detective. From when I first read this manga, I thought he was shady but once I did read the manga and looked back at him, he is a great guy.
Once Sowa met Kanoko and he understands her abilities, he understands or at least gleams the idea that Kanoko doesn’t really like her powers and that it’s a bit of a sore subject. Respectfully he offers her a job at his detective agency to help him solve cases, which she accepts (new in town and a person is offering her a room and a job).
Now the cases they tackle in the first volume are some good ones, missing person cases, theft and blackmailing and fake kidnapping (when you are reading the chapter you’ll understand).
I have read a little more online and I love this series, the time setting 1926 was an amazing choice to set this story in, the clothes the beautiful kimonos and suits and dress they all looked so gorgeous, the feeling: reading some of the chapters I did get some somber feelings for some of the characters.
Now looking at this I am unsure if it’s going to be a romance where both Sowa and Kanoko will end up getting together, but I wouldn’t to upset about that the two of them are a wonderful together.
If you are looking for a manga series that is set in 1926 Japan detective series this manga is the manga for you.

I stumbled upon this manga by searching the tag "Strong Female Lead". I like the story and the concept of it. All the characters are entertaining and the art is very good.
This is not your typical shoujo and romance manga. It does not entirely focus on the main characters love story. Not sure if you can call it slow romance, but they've confess that they both have romantic interest in each other. However, it doesn't really happen until towards the end.
I also like the girl's development and that she is learning a lot. She learns that there are different type of lies, and that the truth and the lie is not always so clear. The team work of Souma, the intelligent detective and Kanoko, the detective's assistant as a lie detector are amazing.

Three characters similar to mine // Peppermint
Tumblr media
Kanoko Urabe // Usotoki Rhetoric
Peppermint’s development as a character (especially in transitioning from her old backstory/personality to her current) is incredibly inspired by Kanoko’s character growth. Kanoko is introduced as a character who is avoided/bullied due to her ability to hear when people lie, choosing to move to another town so that her former neighbors wouldn’t feel awkward around her and her parents. She plans on keeping to herself and ignoring the lies she hears, considering it a curse until she meets a detective who helps her realize that her ability is only a curse if seen from one perspective; after helping him solve cases, Kanoko realizes that her curse can also be a blessing. Though she starts off quite formal/quiet, the detective’s personality as well as a few supporting characters help her “blossom” into someone who isn’t afraid to use her voice, and let her be herself - a cheerful, kind girl who only wants to see the best in others.

Aya Marumaya // BanG Dream! Girls Band Party
Mint shares a lot of traits with Aya, particularly in how she presents herself and how determined she is to achieve her own goals. Aya is very cheery and high-spirited, unselfish in her pursuits, and helps others solely for the sake of being kind. Deep down, however, she is a sensitive girl who suffers from a complex stemming from her desire to be noticed. While Mint doesn’t particularly desire to be noticed, she does have a severe complex/fear of being forgotten, which is why she tends to keep up her cheerful demeanor - to leave a lasting mark in everyone’s memories.

Minako Satake // The Idolm@ster Million Live!: Theater Days
With Minako, Mint shares two specific traits. Minako is considered one of the theater’s big sister figures; she’s dedicated to taking care of others, aiming to be of help whenever it’s possible. This primarily shows in their shared love of cooking - Minako loves to cook and is known for her ability to produce food in mass quantities. She loves seeing people happy thanks to her food; something that Mint adores as well. Due to her constant concerns over the health of her loved ones, she likes to make sure they’re all eating well; in Mint’s case, she’ll more than likely force her way in to begin cooking for someone if they aren’t.  However, in both Minako and Mint’s natural tendency to look after others and to prioritise their needs over their own, it leads to both of them becoming fidgety when they’re the one being tended to instead.
