A voice and a hand pulls you from the panic growing in your chest. You only get the chance to see golden hair before you’re wrapped in a warm hold. Tears falling freely with your fear. Normally you’d feel embarrassed but your heart raced and you craved the comfort. You latched onto Shu burying your face in the soft tan collar of his cardigan. You couldn’t quite register what he was saying, but the rumble of his chest calmed you a bit.

Your eyes felt heavy and so did your head. He carried you away from the mess and the kitchen. The dim lights of the hall made keeping your eyes open easier, but the twists of the hall made you dizzy. Eventually you closed your eyes a final time and drifted to sleep.

Your eyes burned with the lights. Eyes opened slowly as the world formed back into one image. You go to sit up only to be grabbed by long arms. You see Subaru’s face as he holds you firmly in your arms. Your confusion only grows more as you look around to see a colorful room. A room certainly made for a child, right?

“Oh! She's awake, how fun!” you hear Laito exclaim.

Subarus' grip tightened slightly as he glared at the red head. “Tch. Why don’t you give her time to wake up before screaming like that?”

Leaning back before a fight starts you question them. “What’s going on?” Your voice quiet and shaky. 

“Shh. Pretty baby, there’s no need to worry anymore.” Laito says cooing at you.

Subaru sighs angrily and adjusts his hold on you.

“What do you mean?” You ask with fear. “Why are you acting like this?” Your head spun with concern.

“See now she's confused.” Subaru states angrily at Laito.

Narrowing his eyes, Laito responds quickly. “She was going to be confused anyways.”

“Please put me down…” You whisper.

“No.” Subaru says firmly.

Before any more words could be thrown, the rest of the brothers piled into the room. Turns out Shu had been in the room the whole time and they were just waiting on the last three. They gave each other looks that you couldn’t understand.

Reiji stood in front of Subaru and you as he started to talk. “To start off, I’m sure you’re confused. Over your stay here we noticed certain things that none of us were able to ignore. We came to the executive decision that you would be much better off if you were our little sibling rather than hers. Therefore from here on out you’ll follow a strict set of rules and a steady schedule. We’ll take care of your needs and you’ll be the perfect little one for us. Understood”

“No,” You say. “No, I don’t understand. I thought you hated me? And what do you mean take care of me? Why would I want to be your little sibling? I mean Yui isn’t preferable by any means but I’m not your sibling? I- What do you mean by little one? Can I just- just what’s going on righ-” Your cut of again by Reiji as he ‘explains’ things more and lays out the ‘rules’

By the end of his speech you were crying from anxiety. Surprisingly to you Subaru handed you off calmly to Kanato. Despite his size he held you steady. It made you feel so much smaller than you knew you were. Kanato’s hand came up and forced your head onto his shoulder. Even when you tried to move your head off his hand kept it down. You were however allowed to move your head to face into his chest rather than away. He started singing to you as you cried. He sat in a rocking chair and held you close.

You hear coos and praises as you drift into a dark peaceful sleep.

Since I see way too many people making fun of him, do you think Kanato passes as the “ugly” brother of the Sakamaki household because he doesn’t look alike to Ayato and Laito? To me he’s really beautiful and I know he is a jerk too but I get bored of seeing people slandering his looks when I bet he’s more unique looking than them.

// I'm not a Kanato stan, but he's definitely not ugly, especially considering his design is one of the few that actually gives off vampire vibes. Yes, he's small, but he looks very aesthetically pleasing. Everyone has different opinions, yet Kanato is canonically good-looking, so I would never slander the appearance of a character who is supposed to be pretty.

As for him not looking like Ayato and Laito… let’s be honest, if they weren’t confirmed brothers, I doubt anyone would have even thought they looked alike, haha. Their features are just so different, and people should realize that each triplet represents a different type of beauty: Kanato is a cute boy, Ayato is a beautiful boy and Laito is a handsome boy.

Additionally, I wouldn’t say Ayato and Laito look similar but rather that Ayato is a combination between Kanato’s and Laito’s features. xD

ok now that i stopped screaming let me try to form a coherent opinion 😫

ig it goes without saying that i really liked ryuuto's route♥ ik i've been screaming throughout it all BUT there's one particular thing that made me appreciate it so much more, simpery aside-

reaching the end specially, i liked the fact that ryuuto started to realize by himself that cordelia isn't what he's after, with little intervention from yui and the power of love (?) i mean, yes, there is some of that, but i feel like ryuuto's realization wasn't only due to yui's intervention when it comes to accept that as a fact, especially when she's literally not there 😭. but yui's kindness naturally got to him, he was just so focused on what he planned; if i were to dig deeper, it's like ryuuto realized that his wants were driven by his childhood/younger mentality only, which is why i'm so glad that he realized that it wasn't going to be any different now that he's grown up, after seeing the patterns and the pain he went through. i love that he realized by himself and undid things himself and killed and !!! yes !!! go off king!!!!! 🛐🛐🛐

i was wondering almost from the start if it was going to be that way or like kanato's vamp end levels of toxic instead (?? i would've enjoyed it regardless probably, i like how it was written so i would've believed it (?) dfhgdj but in all seriousness, i think you did a great job ava!! ♥♥ doing rejet's work better than them as usual 😤💕

also i LOVE the cgs so much 😭 !! my favs may be the kiss at the gazebo (love the lighting), the one of the train and the vampire end one is lovely too ♥♥ and the one w ryuuto going 🤺 @ richter DFGD i just love cordelia!yui being like >:) so much kfgjdfh and yui in general being so sassy tbh i love her 😭

the only thing i'm still curious about is one thing about ryuuto's heartbeat? maybe i'm missing something from hdb bc it's been a while, but does he/sakamakis have a heartbeat or was cordie just messing around as usual? 😭

all in all, i loved it and i'm so ready to read the bad endings too now because i feed off angst and im hungry 👀🍽 Dkgjd AND ofc i'm patiently waiting for the heavens and after story and everything else 🛐🛐

Im really glad you noticed that! I didn't want it to too heavily focused on Yui "falling in love and fixing Ryuuto", especially not over one single route >< Instead, it works so much nicer for him imo if his character development comes from within moreso. The shift between being solely focused on Cordelia in his Dark, then his transition into getting to know Yui on a deeper level that really challenges all he knows with Cordelia in Maniac, and his internal decisions between whether he wants a repeat of his past where he feels comfortable, or a fresh albeit scary start with Yui in Ecstasy is HUGE 😩😭

Did you know out of the mukami in dark fate. Yuma doesn't get a wedding CG like the rest. Yuma isn't even my favorite but that's so saddening and his dark fate really disappointed me. Ruki's as well with him becoming human and losing his luck to live along side Yui.

yuma doesn't get a wedding cg because he's too much of a virgin. lmao no i have no idea why. yuma also isn't my favourite but i did rank all the DF routes on my priv twitter back in January 2022 when i finished reading all the Sakamaki and Mukami DF routes.

i wrote reasonings for all my rankings with those, but here was my rankings:

in short, i did prefer the Mukami DF routes because of the karlheinz conflict where they held a very strong guilt over keeping yui. whereas in LE, because of the fact the Sakamaki's get the powers and they're the ones who have that crisis, the Sakamaki LE routes ranked higher for them.

i did like yuma's DF esp with the memory recall but it wasn't as good as kou, azusa and ruki. kou went 110% unhinged, tried to off him etc, i LOVED azusa's w/ him losing his arm and learning his strengths. and ruki's DF... don't talk to me i'll start crying.

no, in all seriousness, ruki's LE is my fav route of all time and his DF is my second fav route of all time. a lot of people don't seem to like ruki or his routes and i think that's Sad because imo they're some of the best written.

ruki's DF endings are really interesting i think. the concept of him becoming human again and growing old w/ yui is really sweet. i think he'd learn a lot about himself as a human again. conversely, his brute ending is... so, so agonising. fuck shin, fuck him so hard.

you will never hear me slander ruki's routes. ever. the apology he gives her in dark epilogue, when he ugly cries over her for 5 minutes... agh, i'm gonna sob

Why else would they stare like that? You thought you knew. They hated you, right? It’d been months and all they ever do is stare. Unlike Yui, they never touched you. Not a single finger, but they glared, stared right into your soul. 

You tried your best to protect your foster sister. It never worked well. The two of you had never been close, and the recent situation only strained your relationship more. Yui partially blamed you for her injuries caused by the brothers. She would get angry they only attacked her. You were tired. Despite being a few months younger than her you were always left being responsible. You were always made to be the “bigger person”. This didn’t change when the two of you arrived at the mansion. With Yui being the one drained, you often did any and all the chores that she needed to take care of in order to lessen her burden.

Today the eight of you sat in the limo on the way back to school. Your notebook laid on your lap as you wrote down the list of chores you had to complete today. As usual there were several sets of eyes on you. Despite Laito’s and Ayato’s harassment of Yui they too stole looks at you as you worked. Noticing that you had several tasks in the kitchen you added making today's dessert to your list. Knowing it’s supposed to be Yui’s job today and that she would most likely be unable to do it. You were certain that the household knew you were the one performing her chores; you felt no shame in inquiring out loud.

“Kasutera, mitarashi dangos, strawberry shortcake, or all three? I have extra time so I can make it all but what do you all think? Or is there something else you’d prefer?” You look up and around the limo innocently.

You look over as Subaru scoffs. Reiji however is the one who answers you with a simple statement. “It isn’t your turn to cook today.”

You furrow your brows in confusion and laugh. “I know,” You say, smiling kindly. “I normally cook on Yui’s days… I thought you knew that, heh.” Embarrassment causing you to look down.

You were met with more stares.

“Are you kidding?” Ayato asks, looking angrily over to Yui.

“I really don’t mind like I said I have plenty of extra time. Heh heh…” You say, once again trying to save her from any wrath. Your anxiety leaking through your tone.

Once again scoffing, Subaru curses under his breath. Shu shakes his head with an annoyed look. Kanato holds his bear tighter and stares at you. Laito’s smile looks strained and his eyes hold a darker look. Reiji fixes his glasses with a sigh. The car stops soon after a while with the awkward unloading of the car. 

You got started on all your chores. Spending your evening working. Letting your mind wander as you cleaned and cooked.

Everyday wore you down a bit more. You were by no means built for this. When you weren’t having to care for Yui, your friends would describe you as a childish character with a much too kind heart. You were always so stressed and the few times you weren’t the real you shined like a star. All of this responsibility of a girl older than you had you missing your childhood. A childhood you never really got when you had to act like an adult for so long.

You were surprised seeing all the drinks and sides set neatly on the table. Reiji unsurprisingly sitting waiting at the table as well, clearly the one who set the table. Putting food on the table you thanked Reiji for his help, but focused on bringing in the food. He watched you closely yet quietly while you finished your task.

Dinner and dessert passed without incident. Despite this you noticed the men looking over at you more often. You also noticed as you stood at the sink that the world around you seemed to move without you. Your stomach churned from the unpredictable motion. You leaned on the counter, stopping your final chore, to catch your breath. Your hold being too weak you end up on the floor along with a few plates.
