After the suspicious death of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi not only became the President of the Congress Party but also the first woman to rule the country. Indira Gandhi holds the record of being the first and only woman Prime Minister of the country. Along with this, many controversies were also in her name. Indira Gandhi, who became PM for the first time in 1966, was also the most controversial prime minister until her assassination in 1984.

The daughter of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had been in the spotlight in the country's politics since 1955. He was included in the working unit of the Congress party and then in the year 1959, Indira Gandhi was made the Congress President. After Nehru's death, when Shastri became PM in 1964, Indira was given an important role in his government.

The government was in crisis when PM Shastri, who had gone to Russia for the Tashkent agreement, died suspiciously. Indira Gandhi took charge of the country but the people from the right wing of the Congress did not like Indira Gandhi to be PM. If there was opposition to Indira Gandhi becoming PM, elections had to be held in 1967. However Indira Gandhi won by a very narrow margin and she started as the elected Prime Minister. Many controversies arose between 1966 and 1967 and the country would have seen such a big political drama for the first time.

With Kamaraj's help, Indira defeated Morarji Desai and Desai was also the Deputy Prime Minister but this was the time when separate groups were being formed in the Congress. This was the time when the media was calling Indira a dumb doll as PM. But within a few years, the country realized that Indira was one of the most powerful leaders in the country. Despite internal squabbles in the Congress, Indira gave a resounding answer to the opposition in 1971 with a landslide victory and Indira became known as the country's undisputed greatest leader.

Deprived of democratic rights, all power fell into the hands of Indira alone. If freedom and rights were in crisis, a number of programs like sterilization were also run during this time. The Emergency ended in 1977 and elections were held. Indiraji lost this election. A year later, the Congress split into two and the Congress I was formed in support of Indira Gandhi, which meant Indira. In 1978, he was sent to jail for almost a week on corruption charges. But the tide turned and the Janata Party split. Once again in the year 1980, Indira Gandhi's government was formed.

From the beginning of the new decade, the demand for autonomy arose in some states and the separatist movement in Punjab had reached the point of violence and terror. In 1984, at the Golden Temple, the Indian Army crushed the heads of Sikh leaders who were demanding a separate state under the historic Operation Blue Star. Many Sikhs lost their lives due to the government exercise. The Sikhs wanted revenge. Indira Gandhi was assassinated by Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984, ending the era of the country's only female PM.

Applicants who are willing to apply for more than one programme may apply in a single application through online mode. However, they have to apply separately for each programme in the offline mode.

Fees

Registration Fee (This amount should be paid for each PG programme) Rs.200/- Entrance Exam Fee For Entrance based P.G Programme only Rs.400/-

The applicant has to pay the Registration Fee of Rs.200/- for every PG Programme he/she apply. If the applicant apply for PG Programme (Entrance) then the applicant has to pay the Entrance Exam Fee of Rs.400/- along with the Registration fee. SC/ST students are exempted from paying the registration and entrance examination fees for one program. If they want to apply for more programs, then they have to pay the regular fees.

Selection Procedure

For the PG Programmes (Entrance based) the selection of the candidate is based on the marks in the Entrance Examination conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University and UG marks.

Scholarships

The eligible candidates belonging to backward class and Most Backward class can apply for scholarship to the Government of Tamilnadu.

The eligible candidates belonging to SC/ST communities can apply for scholarships to the Government of Tamilnadu and the Government of India.

Heads of colleges and universities felt that with all public transport resuming and JEE Mains and NEET being conducted, it should not be much of an issue to hold the exams for final year students. “Offline is the best way to hold the exams as it would ensure no student misses out. Logistics too should not be an issue after September 15,” said N Rajendran, VC of Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Madurai Kamaraj University VC Dr M Krishnan too said that discussions have been held with college principals and all are ready to conduct the exams following UGC guidelines. “Though we are yet to receive any communication from the state government, as an autonomous college, we have decided to hold the semester exams for final years from September 17 to 30. The same has been communicated to students. The exams will happen in two shifts following all precautions.
