Sanjay Mishra’s next, ‘Guthlee’ deals with the sensitive subject of Casteism. We as a country have definitely moved forward in terms of science, technology and development and the changes are visible for all to see. But there is a reality seeped within the hinterlands of the country that isn’t visible to all, but is rampant in many parts, ‘Casteism’, a social evil that India continues to grapple with even today. Sanjay Mishra starrer ‘Guthlee’ attempts at dwelling deeper into the subject and assess the thought behind this evil still being prevalent in the Indian society. The film, presented by Pradeep Rangwani and UV Films, narrates the story of A small boy who’s wish to study and gain knowledge is hindered due to his caste and a family who leaves no stone unturned to ensure that the boy gets an equal chance at education. ‘Guthlee’ is directed by Ishrat R. Khan and also stars Subrat Dutta and Kalyanee Mulay in pivotal roles. Commenting on the same, Sanjay Mishra says “Guthlee is a film with a large heart, it highlights the very important message of casteism and its repercussions faced by the underprivileged. via Today Bharat nbsp; nbsp; Unlike Delhi, where power and pedigree are frequently asserted, Mumbairsquo;s wealthy have their high-rise homes overlooking slums where some of the cityrsquo;s poorest live. As the opening aerial shot of Yeh Ballet shows, prosperity and poverty are long standing neighbours in Mumbai. Itrsquo;s a daily humbling reminder of the immense privilege of having an attached bathroom. Yeh Ballet, now streaming on Netflix, is based on the true story of Manish Chauhan and Amiruddin Shah, who were discovered by their Israeli ballet teacher Yehuda Maor. Both youngsters ended up being selected by ballet schools in America and are now pursuing their dreams in the dance form. Director Sooni Taraporevala who made a documentary on the two of them in 2017, writes a feature film version of her documentary, fleshing out the backstories and applying religious, social and political filters to this dance drama. Nishu (Manish Chauhan playing a fictionalised version of himself) and Asif (Achintya Bose playing Amir) are residents of two separate chawls along Mumbairsquo;s coast. Their fathers are a taxi driver (Vijay Maurya) and welder (Danish Husain) respectively while Nishursquo;s mother (Kalyanee Mulay) stitches clothes to supplement the family income. Nishu is passionate about dance and is first seen participating in a dance reality show while Asif is happy just dancing with his buddies in an open area outside Worli koliwada. Interestingly, the film opens with a song that has the lyrics, Mumbai ka king kaun (who is the king of Mumbai), a definite hat tip to Bhikhu Mhatre and cult classic film Satya where a man from the slums rises to become a powerful man in Mumbai. The two meet when Asifrsquo;s older brother, who delivers pizzas to the dance academy, finds him a spot, while Nishu is spotted by a manager at the dance school and given a fee discount in lieu of his talent. Itrsquo;s not entirely impossible, especially in a city like Mumbai where opportunity is more democratic, but still itrsquo;s the first amongst the many situations where Sooni eases obstacles for her protagonists, never really allowing them to hit rock bottom before turning on the light at the end of the tunnel. Nishu is seen cleaning bathrooms, and Asif loses a friend before gaining perspective, but these moments of struggle flit by too quickly. So when Asif tells his friend that he has taken to ballet like a chewing gum that gets firmly stuck in hair, you find it hard to feel his passion. It also doesnrsquo;t help that ballet is still a fairly alien dance form to Indians. The film Gully Boy which told a similar story of a boy from Dharavi chose rap and hip hop, a music form that seemed organically connected to the protagonistrsquo;s emotional state. Yeh Ballet never really explains to us why these two boys are so drawn to ballet as a dance form. Especially considering Nishu canrsquo;t even pronounce ballet when he first joins. Is it the discipline it demands, is it the elegance of the movements? Is it the fact that not too many men choose it? You never feel the exhilaration of an lsquo;Apna time ayegarsquo; because Sooni never tries to find any threads to tie an Indian social setup to a dance form thatrsquo;s not only western but also perceived as elitist and feminine. Which is perhaps the elephant in the room that never gets addressed. The problem is not just that making a living through dance is difficult or that itrsquo;s lsquo;haraamrsquo;. Dance, especially ballet, is still not considered a respectable lsquo;masculinersquo; choice for a man to pursue. The fact that these boys have chosen a dance form that for years has been perceived as a feminine dance form, is never addressed at all. Instead, Sooni gives them both girlfriends (of sorts) as if to clarify that ballet does not equal to being gay. There are a couple of wonderful moments that stay with you. Asif dancing while standing in line for water, Nishu practising while washing his clothes, and the two boys ganging up against their teacher, but the moments are far and few in between. There is no denying that both the lead actors are very talented dancers, especially Manish who is trained in ballet. His poise and grace are commendable while Achintya who has trained in other dance styles and learnt ballet for the film is also a joy to watch. While there are multiple supporting characters, Sooni doesnrsquo;t not flesh out any of these roles beyond the basic requirements of the slum to success template. Disapproving parents, rich kind hearted girl, sassy talented poor girl and intolerant trouble makers are the types these characters are slotted into. Also that line about not throwing away a god-given talent was just too uncomfortably similar to Ranveer Singhrsquo;s dialogue from Gully Boy, whose dialogue writer Vijay Maurya has also written the Hindi dialogues of Yeh Ballet. To me the weakest link of the film was Julian Sands as the cantankerous but well-meaning teacher Saul. Sooni canrsquo;t resist going down the heavily-flogged white man clueless in the third world country path. Julian, who is an experienced actor, seems lost on where to pitch his character. Perhaps his discomfort at living in Mumbai is supposed to tie in the struggles of his proteges but these parallels are never fleshed out. I couldnrsquo;t help but wonder why we never see the teacher dance. Sands just watches his students dance, or berates them from time to time, but never stops to demonstrate a single ballet pose. Any performing artist draws heavily from his or her guru or teacher/ mentor and itrsquo;s a relationship thatrsquo;s especially revered in India. Apart from showing his students some videos and making them practice long hours, I just couldnrsquo;t understand why he forced the boys to live with him when he never gave them an insight into his vast experience through lecture or demonstration. Dance is perhaps the most instinctive art form and most personal too. Something within you forces you to move your body arms and legs to express the feeling you canrsquo;t quite contain within anymore. Sometimes any step will do and sometimes you are trained to express yourself better and better with technical precision. Either way, itrsquo;s you and your body telling a story about what moved you to dance. While this movie has a lot of wonderful dancing, it didnrsquo;t move me at all. nbsp; nbsp;

Netflix's Yeh Ballet: Release Date, Trailer & More
Netflix's Next Indian Movie "Yeh Ballet": release Date, Trailers & More
Sooni Taraporevala is building on her VR doc for 2017.
Netflix has divulged a discharge date — February 21 — and trailer for Yeh Ballet, its next unique film from India. Coordinated by Sooni Taraporevala (Little Zizou), Yeh Ballet is "enlivened by the mind blowing genuine story of two young men from humble foundations in Mumbai, who triumph over their conditions and advance toward renowned global artful dance schools." Newcomers Manish Chauhan and Achintya Bose play the two young men, move show champ Nishu, and hip-bounce dissident and contender turned-companion Asif, individually. Yeh Ballet additionally stars Julian Sands (A Room With A View), Jim Sarbh (Neerja), Danish Husain (Bard of Blood), Vijay Maurya (Gully Boy), Heeba Shah (Afsos), and Kalyanee Mulay (Nude). Yeh Ballet is a full length take on an eponymous 15-minute augmented simulation narrative Taraporevala made in 2017. Indeed, Chauhan is one of the two genuine young men who propelled the film. Taraporevala recognized that in a readied proclamation: "Yeh Ballet is propelled by the genuine story of two little fellows who were resolved and thought beyond practical boundaries. It's such a great and practically mind blowing story that it causes you to have confidence in working with energy towards your objectives. I found the young men a couple of years back, when my child was working with Aanand Gandhi and I was inquired as to whether I'd prefer to coordinate a VR narrative.
youtube
"Because I studied expressiveness in my youth, I have selected it from various potential subjects. I was linked to their story and had to tell in a snap to the universe. An foreign film by Yeh Ballet like Netflix is best designed to attract attention to the sky-like individual of artful dance, yet additionally exhibit how dreams, regardless of how over the top, can be figured it out." For the Netflix motion picture, Taraporevala tapped choreographers Shiamak Davar, Cindy Claes, and Vitthal Patil. Ankur Tewari (Gully Boy) has created the ambient sounds. Yeh Ballet is a creation of Roy Kapur Films. Taraporevala is most popular for composing or co-composing the Mira Nair films Salaam Bombay!, The Namesake, & Mississippi Masala. Yeh Ballet was first declared in April a year ago nearby nine different movies from any semblance of Shah Rukh Khan, Ronnie Screwvala (From Uri: The Surgical Strike), Anurag Kashyap, Sudhir Mishra (From Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi), Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee (Khosla Ka Ghosla!), Farah Khan (From Main Hoon Na). Of the ten, we've seen two: romantic comedy House Arrest, and frightfulness treasury Ghost Stories. Here's the official summary for Yeh Ballet, through Netflix:
"The story highlights two artists, Nishu, the champ of a move show, and Asif, his fiercest rival turned companion, a hip bounce rebel. Their lives totally change when Saul (Sands), a turning gray artful dance educator finds them randomly in a uninspiring move foundation in Mumbai. Saul pushes them to set out on an intense yet satisfying excursion, acing a move structure that is absolutely strange to them. They get through the shackles of society and family weights to become male ballet performers. With established enthusiastic minutes and jolting exhibitions across different move structures like free-form, desi hip-jump, and artful dance, this story catches the lovely and happy universe of move and the sheer coarseness of the expressive dance young men's triumph."
Yeh Ballet is out February 21 on Netflix in India and over the world.

Delhi court stayed the release of National award-winning director Ravi Jadhav‘s upcoming Marathi movie ‘Nude: Chitra’ over plagiarism charges. Jaipur-based author Manisha Kulshreshthahas accused the makers of the movie of copyright infringement. Manisha has alleged that the script of ‘Nude‘ is an adaptation of her short story ‘Kalindi’, written in 2008. The court has asked the production house not to make the movie public in any manner before next the hearing on April 19. The film is scheduled for release on April 27. Nude had hit headlines last year when it was dropped from IFFI‘s Indian Panorama section due to incomplete post-production. It was the jury’s choice for the opening film of the Panorama section. It is the story of a woman who takes up the job of a nude model at an art college to meet the expenses of her son’s education. The film stars Kalyanee Mulay, Chhaya Kadam and Madan Deodhar, while Naseeruddin Shah has played a cameo. Manisha Kulshreshtha told us, “Last year, one of my friends told me about ‘Nude’s’ plot, and till then, the trailer of the movie had not released. Then I got in touch with the director of the movie and asked him about the subject of the film. Without revealing any details, he asked me to send my story to him, which I did. But when I asked him to send me the script of the film, he didn’t and told me that the film’s script is different. But when I saw the trailer of the movie I realised that it’s an adaptation of my story. The storyline, plot, manner of expression and even the name of the protagonist is the same. That’s when I decided to file the case.” Manisha’s counsel showed the trailer of the film to the court to point out the similarities between the movie and her short story Kalindi. Manisha adds, “This is a common problem with authors of Hindi literature. Bollywood writers and directors pick the stories of Hindi writers and adapt them. The director or the production house have not agreed yet that it is my story.” Even after several attempts, director Ravi Jadhav and the production house remained unavailable for comment. The film is set in Mumbai in JJ School of Arts. Ravi Jadhav, who’s also an alumna of the college, had said in an earlier interview, “I graduated from JJ School of Arts with a degree in Applied Arts in 1995, while most of my friends studied Fine Arts. When I was a student, I was curious about what happened behind the closed doors of a completely sealed studio, outside which the words ‘Nude painting session on – Do Not Enter’ was inscribed. During lunchtime, the models would be seated just like anyone else and students would treat them with great respect, referring to them as ‘akka’ or ‘ma’am’. I attended a few painting sessions and there was no vulgarity in the eyes of any student. “ The film was cleared by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) in second viewing and jury member Vidya Balan who presided over the committee granted it an ‘A’ certificate with no cuts. Commenting on the plagiarism charges, Vani Tripathi Tikoo, CBFC member (she was not part of the certification process of ‘Nude’), says, “I have read the story and I have also seen the trailer of the film, there are too many similarities. It’s really shameful and not acceptable.” TNN ; 9th. Apr,18
