My heart races as I reminisce about Wisconsin Dells’ Kalahari Resort, where I conquered serpentine slides and nearly drowned in wave pools.

Namibia, Botswana, Simbabwe 2024/25 - Vorbericht

Herrschaften und Oukies!!!

Bald geht es wieder los. Dieses Mal ganz in den Norden Namibias, durch den Caprivi Streifen an die Flüsse Okavango und Zambesi, bis zu den weltberühmten Victoria Fällen.

Wie immer, machen wir auch dieses Mal eine selbstgebastelte Rundreise mit einem 4x4 als Leihwagen - ohne Dachzelt, denn wir sind "Warmduscher" und wollen im weichen Bettchen schlafen.

Außerdem fährt auch in diesem Jahr noch einmal meine Mutter mit, die einmal im Leben die Victoria Fälle sehen wollte. Diesen Wunsch erfüllen wir ihr gerne.    

Wenn alles klappt, wie geplant, die Airline Eurowings Discover (die Airline heißt seit neuestem nur noch Discover) auch schön mitspielt und sonst nichts dazwischen kommt, sollte dem Abflug nach Windhoek nichts im Wege stehen.

Der Abflug findet in diesem Jahr ausnahmsweise einmal ab Düsseldorf via Frankfurt statt. Der Zubringerflug in der Business Class nach Frankfurt kostete gerade einmal 50 Euro pP mehr und für uns entfällt so die aktuell elendige Anfahrt über die Sauerländer Dörfer, bedingt durch die Sperrung der A 45.

Ab dem 15.12. heißt es dann wieder für unsere kleine Reisegruppe:

Die geplante Tour führt uns auch dieses Mal zu verschiedenen Zielen, die wir schon immer einmal besuchen oder noch einmal besuchen wollten, da sie uns so gut gefielen.

Hier unsere Stationen der diesjährigen Reise:

1. Eagle Rock Lodge (2. Besuch): gelegen nur rund eine gute 1 Stunde westlich des Flughafens, im Khomas Hochland, und damit ideal zu Beginn oder zum Ende der Reise. Arianes Rouladen von der Oryx Antilope sind legendär.

2. Swakopmund, Chala Kigi (10ter Besuch): gelegen an der kalten Atlantikküste. Swakop wird wegen seiner Jugendstilarchitektur auch scherzhaft als das südlichste Seebad Deutschlands bezeichnet.

3. Sophienhof Lodge bei Outjo (2ter Besuch): Hier haben wir uns dieses Mal für das VIP -Haus mit eigenem Pool und Carport entschieden.

4. Kayova River Lodge (1ster Besuch), gelegen am mächtigen und ebenso berühmten Okavango River mit Blick auf Angola. Die Lodge bietet Unterkunft in nur 8 Bungalows. Es gibt es exzellente Möglichkeiten zur Vogelbeobachtung und natürlich Bootsfahrten auf dem Okavango.

5. Namushasha River Lodge (1ster Besuch): Die Lodge liegt am Ufer des Kwando River im Ost-Caprivi, rund 24 km südlich von Kongola in der Nähe des Mamili und Mudumu-Nationalparks.

6. Chobe River Camp (1ster Besuch), nordöstlich des Grenzübergangs Ngoma am Ufer des tierreichen Chobe River mit Blick auf den Chobe National Park und Botswana situiert.

6. Sandpiper Villas Chobe (1ster Besuch), in der botswanischen Grenzstadt Kasane (2ter Besuch) und wie der Name bereits verrät direkt am tierreichen Chobe River gelegen.

7. Divava Okavango Resort & Spa (1ster Besuch), gelegen an den Popa Fällen (2ter Besuch) des berühmten Okavango Rivers und nur wenig Kilometer vom Mahango Nationalpark entfernt, bietet die Lodge den idealen Ausgangspunkt für Vogel- und Wildbeobachtung.

8. Wildacker Gästefarm (2ter Besuch): kleine mit viel Herzblut geführte Gästefarm. Mit nur 6 reedgedeckten Bungalows garantiert die Wildacker Gästefarm einen sehr persönlichen Service, unterhalb des Mangetti Nationalparks gelegen.

9. Otjikaru Gästefarm (1ster Besuch) am Waterberg (2ter Besuch). Die Gästefarm ist eine kleine persönliche Gästefarm und bietet Unterkunft für eine begrenzte Anzahl an Gästen in 4 Bungalows mit sehr guter namibischer Farmküche. Besucher können auf Pirschfahrten auf der Wildfarm gehen oder den Farmbetrieb kennenlernen.

10. Letzte Station wird dieses Mal Farm Heimat (2ter Besuch): gelegen nur rund 1 Stunde südöstlich des Flughafens, in der Kalahari, und damit ideal zu Beginn oder zum Ende der Reise. Heimat ist eine echte working Guestfarm vorwiegend mit Rindern, Ziegen und Schafen. Hier isst man gemeinsam mit der Farmersfamilie, die seit vielen Generationen hier lebt und wirtschaftet. Authentisch und echt!

Je nach Internet-Verbindung wird unser Blog dann möglichst täglich wieder über unsere Reise berichten. Traditionell ist das Internet in Namibia ja eher lahm, es wird gelegentlich sogar behauptet, dass hier noch mit Dampfmaschinen gearbeitet wird.

Unser Reisebericht ist für alle gedacht, die einen ähnlichen Urlaub planen oder die gern wissen möchten, was man auf so einer Reise erleben kann - und natürlich für unsere Lieben daheim & in der Ferne.

2024: A Year in Review

Another big year for the Branches. Olive and Jaxson are growing into little people, and Piper is just growing into her already teenage-like personality. Some ups, and some downs.

Olive and Jax turned 2!

The celebration of Kwanzaa brought another book published by Michael for the kids, Big Sisters, Big Help.

Our first family trip to Disney! It was a magical experience; an especially great age for Piper. So beautiful to see it through her eyes.

Another wonderful neighborhood and family Easter celebration with friends and family (and candy in eggs).

Piper turned 5. Boy how time flies.

Spring trip. Including to the Kalahari indoor waterpark resort where we met up with Uncle Errol, Dayton where we met up with Uncle David, and finished with some Aquarium time.

Another relaxing trip to Hilton Head with friends.

Whew, a huge milestone for the littles. Pipers first day of Kindergarten and the twins first day of Pre-School. They looked excited in this pic but rest assured the tears came...and subsided. They all love their schools now.

We busted a move right into our 6 year anniversary!

This fall brought pumpkin patch trips, Boo at the Zoo, and of course Halloween (and a load of candy we still haven't gone through).

What seemed like a month of gratitude with 2 Friendsgivings and Thanksgiving (for which Michael was quarantining with his 4th known bout of Covid).

A surprise mommy-daughter trip to Disney for Josie and Piper. When woken up that morning to get ready for the flight Piper asked, "are you for real?"
