I think I heard of that, but never actually watched it.
But I swear, everywhere I look it's like almost every VAs in BNHA has worked together on another project. Sub and dub, I watch anime in both. (Watching SerVamp was unreal when a year or so later I started BNHA...)
They're doing group projects, just on different subjects!

CH.12
« If anything comes to mind, don't hesitate to contact us. » « I know how this works, » Kyoko grumbled.
Hawks sighed. He suspected that the attack had been fatal to the young policewoman's morale, but it hadn't helped her character, which was not at all inclined to cooperation. The winged hero then glanced at his companion: his spitting image in younger form... His son, Haru. He resembled him in every way except that he looked a little more serious at the same age. The latter seemed to have lost nothing from the exchange and a thousand ideas were already brewing in his head, Hawks could see that. He smiled a somewhat proud smile, just enough to avoid being noticed and to break his professional image.
« It was clearly a warning. Your family has been placed under police protection. If this group ever tries to attack them, we will be the first to act, » Hawks assured. « They don't know my sister...» Kyoko muttered with a smile.
This time it was Haru's turn to smirk.
« And let's hope they don't know her. Anyway, give us a call if anything comes up. Get well soon, Miharu-san.»
Kyoko exchanged a glance with Haru for a moment. They seemed to understand each other but didn't go into details, at least not verbally. The meeting was over and the Takami were about to spread their wings, heading for the upstairs balcony when Heisuke and Shin walked up to Kyoko's room. Shin gritted his teeth. Hawks was already high in the sky, his red wings carrying him when Icarus stopped short of the boy.
« I- » Shin began. « Haven't we met somewhere before?! » exclaimed Haru, his avian eyes looking curiously yet harshly at Shin. « I-... it depends! If it's between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. .... Trade with my lawyer. Oh, here he comes now! Oh Kaji-san! »
And so, like a cat and a dog looking at each other, Kaji and Haru seemed to hate each other. No words were exchanged. It was as if the sun met the moon. Icarus looked at the young Shin one last time and spread his golden wings, one of them made of metal. He rose into the air and disappeared into the night. Heisuke and Shin, who had been holding their breaths until now, were finally able to release the pressure.
« Was it just me, or was there some kind of tension? » muttered Shin, livid. « What did you do to Icarus now, you moron? » asked Heisuke, white as a ghost. « Nothing, I swear! You don't forget something like that. » « Hey. You idiots, » Kaji's firm voice thundered.
The idiots in question straightened up at attention, as if in the army.
« Yes! » « Kyo asks to see you... If you tire her out I'll kick your ass, is that clear? »
The two boys seemed to hesitate for a moment, but after exchanging a glance, they decided to move towards Kyoko's room. Heisuke felt his stomach twist. Miharu-san was in a bad shape. Even without using her quirk much, he knew that she was a real force of nature, it was showing in her look, in her way of behaving with them. Something inside him broke, his heart perhaps, at the thought of seeing someone so strong having come so close to death.
Kyoto smirked as she watched the two young men freeze.
« Are you going to stand there like two idiots for long? Sit down, I'm not going to bite you, » Kyoko ordered firmly but gently.
They complied without further ado, but they remained as straight as spikes. Kaji stood at the entrance, arms crossed over his chest as if waiting for something.
« Boys, why the long face? I'm not dead. It takes a lot more to beat me."
The words did not reassure Heisuke and Shin. Both of them clenched their fists on their knees, as if to endure the situation. Kyoko and Kaji did not have time to look at each other for long. They knew that something was wrong.
"Miharu-san," began Heisuke. "If you had died that night, all our efforts to integrate U.A. would have been like a sacrifice. You took the time with Kaji-san to raise us up when no one wanted to hear about a bastard son of a villain. To die now… It's frustrating just to think about it. You haven't seen anything yet!"
This time, Heisuke's voice grew louder. He looked at Kyoko with eyes full of determination.
"Don't die before you see us at the top. Please!"
And in an almost synchronized gesture, Shin and Heisuke lowered their heads further into a formal, respectful request. Kyoko blinked in surprise, mouth agape. Kaji hid a smile and turned her head away slightly. Those kids had managed to nail Kyo's beak! he thought.

As you know, I have a dad series for both, Hawks and Dabi. Here I did some facts about Haru and Kaji! If you have questions, feel free to ask. I really love talking about it🥰
Likes:
Haru
— Dinosaurs, his bedroom is themed with dinasours. Plushies, figures, books, everything.
— Books. And most of them are about dinosaurs.
— Fruits. Kids's always eating fruits.
— He also loves lights, fireworks and shiny things. Bird traits who?
— Fried chicken. Son of his father.
— Opposite of Hawks, Haru is quietter. He likes reading and drawing more than be running around.
— But don't get me wrong, he still is a very active kid.
— He likes heroes too, but not too much. He admires his father like no one else, but he'd seen the mountains of paperwork and the behind the scenes. Their life is hard.
Kaji
— Heroes.
— Endeavor is his favorite. Just kidding, but he does like other heroes.
— He also loves stars, his favorite thing to do is to stay on the balcony with a blanket on his body as he watches the sky.
— Unlike Haru, this kid is active. He's always jumping around, running, playing,
— He likes ice cream, strawberry cheescake to be exact.
— Another favorite thing? Spending time with his dad. He think's he's funny.
— He also likes helping people, doesn't like when someone is in pain or going through a hard time.
— He adores cats.
Physical traits/personality
Haru
— Same hair as Keigo.
— His eyes are a bit lighter than his.
— Currently, he's missing a tooth.
— Tiny. Wings.
— Happy most of times
— Enjoys tranquil activities, but absolutely loves flying
— Bird marks on his eyes, just like his father's
— Loving, clingy
— Basically a ray of sun
Kaji
— Dabi's still not over the fact that it is like looking in a mirror
— The only difference? Kaji doesn't have scars.
—A strand of his hair is getting white. Genetics is a bitch
— Wears blue glasses
— Messy hair
— Energetic af. Wants to do everything all the time
— He is loving too, but only with those who he feels comfortable. He'd hug his dad more, but the bacon boy is a bit cold.
— His eyes are blue. Todorki's blue.

Takami You (CV. Kaji Yuki) [My Dear]
English Translation (by hoshi-yuki)
In this world only you offer me a meaning to live The small back that completely scattered a deep crimson love shivered Beyond the castle's walls, surely the princess is being held by loneliness I'll come to get her right this moment Even if painted in sin Our small connected hands when we were young Squeezing back That sign was a ceremony that swore eternity Even now Are you crying pitifully while laughing? Oh moon, shine as to gently caress the darkness of the princess' black hair Tonight as well, I'll fall asleep while thinking only of you The fragile heart that was completely left behind in the rubble Even now... The princess that continues to pile lies surely became unable to return If that's the case, I'll use magic to turn the lies into truths If only I have power I could attain even a soul I'll continue wishing for the day that I can tightly hold your that hand of yours once more I believe in The white dream before the flower fell Oh moon, shine as to gently caress the darkness of the princess' black hair Our small connected hands when we were young Squeezing back That sign was a ceremony that swore eternity Even now Are you crying pitifully while laughing? Oh moon, shine as to gently caress the darkness of the princess' black hair

The lost boy
Introducing my new boy ! Not enough credits for the side characters.
It must have been eleven o'clock at night when Kyoko had sent an urgent message to Kaji, asking him to report to the police station as soon as possible.
" I need you for this case. I don't know anyone who can help this kid like you. Please hurry, it won't be long before they send him to a specialized prison. "
She hung up and crossed her arms in front of the tinted glass. Behind it was a teenager with blond hair. He must have been fifteen or maybe sixteen years old, but not older. His wrists were handcuffed to the table and his evil gaze was downcast like a rabid dog waiting to pounce on the first unfortunate person who threatened him.
When the young Kaji entered the police station, he was initially blocked but Kyoko, who had started only a week ago, imposed herself:
" Let him come ! - The chief is not going to be happy when he finds out that you let anyone in here, Miharu," said one of the colleagues. - I'll do some paperwork if it'll help you sleep soundly," Kyoko, who was used to toxic masculinity, replied dryly. "
The group dispersed and Kyoko's face softened :
" Thank you for coming so quickly. No one is going to agree to defend him with conviction," she began, pulling him aside. - You talk about him as if he was a hopeless case? - For them, it is Kaji ! said the young officer, sorry for this situation. His father was a bad guy... Muscular. You remember him, don't you? "
The two young people then looked at the tinted glass. Blonde hair, square jaw and cut like a rock. It was very obvious now.
" His name is Heisuke Naoko. He is fifteen years old. Don't ask me where he came from, but his quirk is exactly like his father's except maybe a little weaker at the moment. His memory has left a lot of cops here nervous, hence their mood tonight. - You said they wanted to send him to jail? That's stupid, what about his mother? "
Kyoko sighed, obviously sad, and Kaji realized she was out of the picture. Unlucky boy...
" No mother... concluded Kaji. I'm going to talk to him. - I'm going with you. - Seeing an officer isn't going to make him feel so confident if you ask me. - Okay...sighed Kyoko. - And turn off the cameras. - Kaji! - Please! Just trust me. "
They glared at each other for a moment but Kyoko, after one last look at the teenager behind the glass, agreed. You could see on her face that she was not reassured, more for Kaji's safety than for her newly obtained job.
"Five minutes. No more. Be careful. "
Kaji smiled to reassure his friend and left the observation room.
A few moments later, Kyoko asked the agents to take a break and turned off the cameras. Kaji entered but the teenager didn't seem to pay any attention to the newcomer.
Kaji looked around the corner to make sure the red light was gone and then sat down in front of the boy and let the silence settle, a silence that seemed to last forever. Heisuke finally raised his eyes to the one who had accepted perhaps a little too quickly to defend him.
" Who are you ? A cop ? - You might think so, but no. I'm not a policeman. More like a lawyer. - Bullshit... Did you get it in a Christmas present, your degree? Get lost, I don't need a lawyer. "
Of course he wasn't going to let himself be taken. Kaji detailed a bit of the boy's appearance: a torn T-shirt, a worn jacket that had served its purpose and bruises on his face that told of the circumstances of his arrest.
" Let's just say you're not a cop. The bastards who arrested me were and they didn't hesitate to beat me up. You, you look smarter. You turned off the cameras to do it. - You want to play it smart ? Believe me, if I wanted to beat up a kid, I wouldn't have come to a police station. I came to defend you, but before I do, you're going to have to put some good will into it. "
Heisuke started to laugh, one of those nervous, ironic laughs. Defend him ? He pulled sharply on his handcuffs, making a beginning of muscles appear at the same time. Kyoko, behind the glass, was about to get down when she noticed Kaji's hidden hand, which was meant for her and which ordered her to stay still. He hadn't moved an inch, still as calm as ever.
" Nobody is going to defend a kid whose father is a criminal ! Yes, there are exceptions like the great Keigo Takami, Hawks, but me ? I'm doomed ! I have a criminal record, a name, a little reputation and everything that goes with it ! My life is over without starting so save it and get lost. "
Again, the silence fell. Kyoko watched the scene and tried to anticipate the young lawyer's next argument. Heisuke had once again walled himself up in his rage that was just waiting to explode again. Everything in his body was screaming at him to break his handcuffs and hit the person in front of him without stopping.
" You think that because your father was a villain you are doomed to the same path? But tell me, quite between us, my head does not tell you something? - Let's just say that I didn't look at it because I don't remember it. - I'm used to it. I'll let you think about it for a while... When you've figured it out then ask Kyoko to call me again. "
Kaji then stood up without saying anything more, leaving Heisuke puzzled. But just before crossing the threshold of the door, he turned around and said:
" Your life is yours to decide what you want to do with it. I understood that you had rage. Why use it to do what people want you to do when you can use it to shut them up by proving them wrong and that you're more than a forgotten bastard ? "
Once again, Heisuke was left speechless. He clenched his fists on the table and a few days later, Kaji received a call from Kyoko.
"Kaji... He agreed to let you defend him. "
© Kaji is @dabiboy's character - I really hope Kaji isn't too out of character on this one. If so, I deeply apologize !

Ryu Kirishima coughed, shaking his head to get the dust and rubble free from his black-spiked locks. He put a hand to his forehead, vision blurry. He couldn’t remember exactly what had happened, until he spotted Miu Bakugo staggering ahead of him. They had been in the middle of a training exercise at U.A.. Ryu was put in a group with Miu Bakugo and Ronin Yaoyorozu-Jiro. It was supposed to be a simple search and rescue mission, a mock trial. They were allotted the city area and were scaling the inside of a building. Then, villains attacked.
Ryu blinked. He traced a small crack in his forehead with his fingertip. It must have happened while he was hardened, leaving the indentation the way it was. Blood, there was a lot of blood. Suddenly, Ronin was in front of Ryu. His forehead creased in worry. His black eyes frantically scanned Ryu over.
“Ryu!” Ronin snapped his fingers in front of him. “Are you there? You took a pretty big hit. A lot of big hits actually.”
Ryu forced himself up on his feet, eyes finally focusing. “Did we get him?”
“Bro, he got you. That Nomu hit you full speed, jumped right through the window of the skyscraper, and he didn’t stop punching. Miu’s still pissed that you pushed her out of the way to protect her.” Ronin removed his bandana, letting out his lengthy purple hair and tying it tightly around Ryu’s head. “She’s been trying her best to hold it off, but she’s almost reached her limit. My sound-creation-mimic quirk has been distracting it, but that’s about all I’ve been good for. My kali sticks might as well be toothpicks against that thing.”
Miu’s front leg trembled, and she faltered. She threw whatever debris she could at the beast, timing her explosions perfectly to blast it right in the face. Once the band was around Ryu’s head, he ran past Ronin, not hesitating to charge into the fray. There was no telling how long he’d been unconscious, but he wasn’t going to leave Miu to fight alone anymore.
The creature in front of Miu looked big enough to swallow her small frame whole. It had bulging eyes and oversized forearms. Its knuckles looked like they were made of steel. Exposed brain oozed to the back of its head, kept in place by a metal cage over its skull.
Ryu leapt in from of Miu, taking the punch meant for her once again. His hardened arms took the brunt of the force. The building beneath them trembled under the strain.
“What the hell, Boulder Brains?! Stop taking punches meant for me! You’re going to get yourself killed,” she scolded.
Ryu pushed the Nomu back an inch, barely gaining any traction against its strength. Luckily, Miu sent a steel pylon gliding into the creature. The explosion sent Ryu reeling back, but the Nomu took the fresh attack to the face. The monster stumbled back, and its hulking form tumbled back over the building’s edge.
“You… idiot…” Miu struggled to speak, wiping sweat from her forehead. That last attack must have taken the energy right out of her. She wavered in her stance. “I could have… taken him out… myself…”
Ryu rushed for her, catching Miu in his arms just before Miu’s brown eyes rolled up in the back of her head. Ryu frantically brushed the blond hair out of her face, but she was unconscious, breathing but incapacitated. The building shuddered and groaned.
“Ronin, we’ve got to get down from here!” Ryu called out. “The building could collapse at any moment.” Ryu hoisted Miu up into his arms.
The two boys dashed for the stairs, clambering down them as bits of building collapsed around them.
“Have you been able to contact Mrs. Kutsuki? Do we have any idea how many Nomus are here?” Ryu asked.
“Dude, it’s not just Nomus! Don’t you remember what happened? That thing must have hit you really hard. A whole group of creatures and villains just suddenly appeared! We saw it all out the window, before we were attacked. The speaker system went on the fritz at the same time. We haven’t heard from Mrs. Kutsuki since.”
Ronin and Ryu stumbled out of the front of the building just in time for its collapse. If they were lucky, the Nomu that had attacked them would be gone.
“I’ll take her,” Ronin said, holding out his arms. “I’ll find somewhere to hide. I’m not going to be much use against another Nomu, so the least I can do is protect Miu. I’m sure our other classmates are trying their best to hold their own.”
Ryu carefully handed her over. “Please stay safe.”
Ronin cracked a smile. “I only offered because there’s no stopping you from going to help the rest of our classmates. You’re Ryu Kirishima after all.” Ronin nervously shifted back. “You’re injured, so you be careful too, but I’m not going to try and stop you.”
Ryu wiped some sweat and blood from his face. He smiled brightly. “Thanks to your bandana, my head’s as good as new. No worries! I’m going to check on everyone, and I’ll round back if I can. Don’t let Miu push herself if she gains consciousness again.”
“Can’t make any promises there. You know how Bakugo can get, but I’ll try my best.”
“That’s all I can ask for. Got to go!” Ryu waved goodbye to Ronin, bolting in the direction of the most commotion. He didn’t have to go far, before he was grabbed from behind and was transported to a completely new spot in a puff of purple smoke.
“Found a straggler, Sako!” the female voice called out.
“Don’t you think I’ve had enough students to deal with, Daguchi?! How about you take one out for once? I’m a little busy playing fifty-two pickup.” Sako appeared outwardly like a performance magician, complete with top hat and white gloves. His brown hair was combed back, and his brown eyes were focused on capturing Goro Sero who was swinging and twisting out of the way of flying playing cards.
“Not my problem,” Daguchi said. “Kaji said I’m on round-up duty, and I have to ensure we have an open escape route.”
Ryu craned his head back toward the voice, finally catching a glimpse of the girl. Dark purple hair and eyes disappeared into a puff of smoke, before she appeared again beside the villainous magician. She adjusted his bowtie, smiling. She pressed a kiss to his cheek, and her crystal nose piercing glinted in the light.
“Got to go, Sako. I’m sure you’ll have no problem pulling a victory out of your hat.” She disappeared in a purple mist.
“Ryu! Don’t let the cards touch you, bro, and watch out for the tentacles!” Goro zipped past Ryu, swinging on a taught line of elbow tape. His pink hair whipped in the wind. He was swinging between the areas so fast, he could barely be seen. “He caught Shinso and Fukishima in those cards of his! He can use their quirks from them too!”
“Stay still, you little brat!” Sako shouted. “I want to show you a magic trick!” He grinned.
“I didn’t volunteer and neither did my friends, villain! It’s time for your final act!” Goro skidded to a stop, lashing out with a piece of elbow tape and wrapping Sako in place.
Ryu saw his chance. He charged toward the villain, fist clenched for an attack.
Sako sighed, flourishing his free hands with two separate stacks of cards. “Do you really think someone like me can be held by such simple means? I’m not only talented with card tricks.” The tape fell from Sako’s body without him even having to shift. He evaded Ryu with ease.
“Ryu, watch out!” Goro warned.
Ryu jumped back before he was touched on the chest with a playing card. He lost his balance, barely catching himself from falling. He steadied his stance, but Sako had changed his attention to him.
“Not as quick on your feet as your friend, are you?” Sako asked. “Let’s see how you can handle your classmate’s quirk.”
Ryu dodged two cards that were flicked toward him, only to be taken clear off of his feet by a tentacle. He was using Fukushima’s quirk. How could that even be possible? Ryu groaned, seeing spots in his eyes. The more hits he took, the harder it was going to be for Ryu to actually fight.
Ryu rolled over, propping himself up on his elbows. While Sako’s eyes were on Ryu, he’d lost track of Goro. Sero whipped more tape around the villain, but this time he didn’t allow him time to escape. Goro flipped in the air, landing directly on Sako and knocking the air from his lungs.
“Forget about the simple magician’s trick of misdirection?” Goro asked him.
Sako struggled to move, his fingers gaining little traction. Ryu’s attention shifted to a card that had pierced the ground beside him. Hiroshi Shinso appeared frozen in time within the card, his blue eyes peering out it in determination. His hands pressed against the inside of the card. Ryu picked up the card between his fingers, waving it in the air.
“Careful, you physical brute, unless you want your friend there to be stuck forever!” Sako shouted out.
“Says the guy whipping the cards around at us,” Ryu snapped back. “Tell us how to release our classmates!”
“A magician never reveals his secrets,” Sako said.
Goro stepped harder into his back. “Tell us!”
“Daguchi, do you mind helping me out here?” Sako asked.
“I’ll take that,” the female from before purred in Ryu’s ear, before plucking the card from his hands.
Ryu swiped at her, only to be met with a cloud of purple smoke.
“I can only take one with me, Sako. If I take the two of you, it will be trouble. You’re a trained escape artist, aren’t you? Good luck.” The girl appeared again, dropping the card off distantly. She dissolved into mist once her feet planted. Within the next instant, she had grabbed onto Ryu like she had before, transporting him away.
Ryu was struggling to keep his head on straight. He was dropped off in a completely different part of the training area, the jungle grounds. Daguchi winked at Ryu, giggling before she dematerialized again. The smell of smoke wafted past Ryu’s nose, and distant screams could be heard tumbling through the trees. Remnants of shadowy plants littered the surrounding area, making Ryu aware that his classmate, Botan Kuroiro, wasn’t far away.
Ryu composed himself, heading straight toward the screams. He had to trust that Goro Sero could handle himself. Since Daguchi had targeted Ryu, Goro would only have a one-on-one battle to deal with. Ryu would need to help his other classmates, especially if they sounded so afraid.
“Kirishima,” a familiar voice let out Ryu’s name faintly.
Ryu stopped, looking around. His crimson gaze spotted his wounded classmate, Hina Enatsu. Part of her body had been hardened to glass. Her breathing was strained, and the part of her dark brown skin attached to the injury was suspended by her sand quirk. She gritted her teeth, pressing the back of her head into the tree behind her, as if trying to hide her pain. Her dirty-blond dreadlocks were singed. Her soft brown eyes looked up at Ryu pleadingly.
“I tried to stop him, but fire and sand don’t mix.” Enatsu chuckled bitterly. “He got me good. C-can you please make sure they make it out? I’ll be able to heal, but I’m scared for our classmates. If anyone can fight him, it’s you, Kirishima.”
“Him, who? Who did this to you?”
“A villain with red fire…” Enatsu winced. “There was another boy too. He could control blood… I think… It’s all kind of hazy now.” Tears filled Enatsu’s eyes. “Kuroiro, Monoma, and Ojiro were with me, but the villains drove them further into the forest. I failed.”
“No. You didn’t fail, Enatsu! Don’t cry,” Ryu said, kneeling beside her. “I know you did all that you could to help. You did so well.” Ryu scanned over her injury, but there was little he could do that she wasn’t already doing. The only way to help her now was get her to the nurse’s. Ryu moved to pick her up.
Enatsu shook her head frantically. “No, they need you more than me. I’ll be fine. Please, go after them. Your quirk can handle the fire. As long as the villains are still here, there’s nothing that can be done for me.”
“But, Enatsu…”
“Please, Kirishima.”
Ryu clenched his fists at his sides. He stood, scanning Enatsu over. “If you can, make it back to the city area. Ronin will be there with Bakugo. I’d feel better if you’re all together. You’ll be safer.”
Enatsu nodded. “I just need a second. I’ll head in that direction as soon as I can.”
Ryu, relieved that Enatsu had agreed to find Ronin, continued toward the screams. The closer he got to the villains in question, the louder the fire roared over the forest canopy. Suffocating smoke filled Ryu’s lungs. He ducked his head down, charging ahead until he made it to a large clearing. Ryu gasped in clean air. A wall of tall dark flora seemed to be keeping the fire from spreading into this part of the forest.
“A new play thing?” a male voice tinkled. “I wonder what color your blood is.”
Ryu hardened, sensing the wind change. The clang of a blade rang off of his rock-hard skin. Ryu’s eyes widened, meeting the yellow eyes of a new villain. The boy grinned with pointed fangs. He sprang away like a gymnast, the villain’s curly blond hair bouncing with his movements.
“Ooh, your skin is different from the others, a lot more resistant to sharp objects.” The boy tilted his head to the side, grinning wider. “I bet your blood is a glorious texture on the tongue.”
A shiver ran up Ryu’s spine. He’d heard of stories of similar villains that his parents had faced in the past. These kinds of villains were terrifying. They were faster than average and completely unpredictable.
“My name is Ohta Toga! What’s yours?” the villain asked. He narrowed his yellow eyes, puffing out his freckled cheeks. “One of the girls refused to give up her name. She was fun to cut, but her tongue was too sharp for my liking. Her blood tasted sour. I find that meaner people have nasty blood, tainted.”
He cut one of the girls? Could it have been one of Kirishima’s classmates that Enatsu had mentioned? Ryu’s internal questions were answered quicker than he expected because Toga pointed toward the outer edge of the clearing. Frozen in place was Mayumi Monoma, her blue eyes widened in fear. A stream of blood ran down her extended arm, prepared to fight.
“She’s a lot prettier when she’s quiet, don’t you think?”
Fear and frustration ran through Ryu’s bloodstream. This had to have been a nightmare. How could villains infiltrate U.A. so easily without the teachers coming to their rescue? How many students were already hurt from the attack? If only Ryu had kept conscious, maybe he would have made it there quicker, maybe he could have stopped some students from being injured so severely.
“What did you do to her?” Ryu asked.
Toga pouted, adjusting the bowtie on the unknown school uniform that he was wearing. “Answer one of my questions first, and I will answer yours.” He twirled a blade between his fingers.
Ryu clenched his fist at his side, gulping. “My name is Ryu Kirishima. Now, tell me what you did to my classmate.”
Ohta grinned again. He caught his blade by the handle, pointing the tip toward Ryu. “I like you.” Toga glanced toward Monoma’s unmoving body. “I’m controlling her blood. She’ll stay frozen as long as I will it, or the amount of blood I’ve taken from her has left my system. It all depends of quantity with my quirk. I could hurt her if I wanted too, but I didn’t really come along with Kaji to hurt people. I’m more interested in making friends, finding people like you!” Ohta giggled, skipping toward Ryu. “Of course, a cut or two is fine if I know it won’t cause irreparable damage.”
“Let her go,” Ryu demanded.
Ohta’s eyebrows furrowed. “No, she’ll just say nasty things to me again. I’d rather talk to you.”
“If you won’t let her go, I won’t keep speaking to you,” Ryu said.
Ohta stopped in his tracks. His expression immediately darkened. His slender fingers clenched around the handle of his blade. “Are you neglecting your new friend’s wishes, Ryu? Why would you want that girl to come between us? If you are ignoring my desires, I won’t have a choice but to cut you,” he said threateningly.
“I…” Ryu trailed off, realizing his words were going to hold more weight here. If he hadn’t already ruined his leverage, he may be able to convince Ohta to release her without angering him further. Ryu’s mother had taught him how to think before acting. She’d helped him grow. There was a limit to what Ryu had the capacity to learn. He was aware of his shortcomings. He knew that he had more brawn than brains, but it didn’t mean that he didn’t try to understand.
“Wouldn’t it be better to have my full attention? If I’m worried about my classmate, I can’t talk to you without distraction,” Ryu said.
Ohta narrowed his yellow eyes at Ryu. He’d gotten significantly closer. He’d pulled back his blade, no longer directing it at Ryu. Toga was considering Ryu’s words carefully, but he didn’t respond to the question.
Ryu took careful notice of Ohta’s posture, his state. He looked rather unscathed, except for a small scratch on his hand that had drawn blood. Was it possible that Monoma had managed to scratch him? If that were the case, she could have copied his powers with her quirk. It clearly didn’t keep her from being paralyzed, but she may be able to work his quirk against him, if Ryu could convince Ohta to set her free.
“You’re hurt,” Ryu said. “I may have small bandages for that. Would you like one?”
Ohta hid his hand from sight. His gaze moved up to Kirishima’s head, most likely noticing the blood seeping through the bandana Ronin had given Ryu. “Mine’s just a scratch, especially compared to yours.” Toga’s fingers had loosened around the handle of his weapon.
“Yeah, but I don’t have any gauze on me,” Ryu said, rubbing the back of his head bashfully. “I can’t do much about it until I can find someone who has better medical equipment on them, like Monoma.”
Ohta’s expression relaxed. “So, your classmate has the supplies you need for your head? The one that’s frozen?”
“Ah, well, I can tough it out just fine. This bandana’s doing the trick for now. You don’t have to sound so concerned about me, Ohta. I was asking about your cuts.”
Toga’s eyes widened at the mention of his name. His eyes glittered in excitement, and his jovial smile returned. “You said my name? My first name? That means we’re friends. I know that means we’re friends.” Ohta mulled over something in his mind, his eyes glancing back at Monoma. “I can release her if it means we can talk, Ryu. She won’t attack me if she finds out we’re friends.”
Ryu would have had a hard time lying if he had to, but once Ohta heard him say his name, it was like a switch had turned on in the villain’s brain. Toga released Monoma from his quirk. It took seconds for her to access the situation. Monoma didn’t hesitate to stick her fingers in her own mouth. Ohta looked at her in confusion, but realization flashed across his face all too late. Toga froze in place, held by his own copied quirk. The little blood still under Monoma’s fingernails had allowed her to incapacitate him.
Mayumi traversed the distance between the edge of the forest to Toga in seconds flat. She made quick work of tying him up with one of her support items.
“I’ll have to tell Bakugo that your head isn’t full of boulders after that little trick you played. I may have been frozen, but I heard the whole thing. Nice work, Kirishima,” Monoma said. She scowled at Toga. “This creep was going to keep me there for who knows how long. The guy is fast. Good thing you didn’t fight him head on.” Monoma removed gauze from her belt. “Let me redress your head wound. It’s the least I can do.”
Kirishima caught her wrist, keeping her from removing the bandana. “No, more of our classmates are in trouble. It can wait. I saw Kuroiro’s flowers, and I was told Ojiro went ahead too. There’s a villain with a fire quirk, right? I might be the only one that can get close enough to hurt him.”
Monoma narrowed her eyes at Ryu. “It’s true I’d gotten separated from them to take care of this guy, but—”
“Please, I won’t be able to rest until I know all of our classmates are okay. Just point me in the right direction. I can take it from there. You stay with Toga. Make sure he can’t hurt anyone else.”
Ryu wouldn’t stop until he knew that his classmates were okay, or at least until the Pro Heroes showed up. Someone had to have been able to alert them by now. As long as Ryu was still conscious, he had a duty as a hero-in-training to save the people he cared about.
Knowing that she wouldn’t be able to change his mind, Monoma pointed in the direction of the fire-quirk villain. “Be careful, Kirishima. I’d rather not be chewed out by Bakugo for letting you go when you’re injured like this, so you had better come out on top.”
Kirishima shot her a toothy-grin, before he sprinted in the direction of his next opponent. He hoped he wasn’t too late. Kuroiro and Ojiro were both strong peers, but it would be hard for them to overpower a fire quirk with their own.
The roar of fire was almost deafening the closer that Ryu got to the action. Red unnatural flames licked angrily at trees and shrubbery alike. Ryu dashed through the flames, his clothes more inclined to alight aflame than himself while he hardened. Kuroiro’s dark flora was denser in this area, making Ryu certain that he was almost there. Like a beacon of foreboding darkness, a cluster of oversized plants lay in the next clearing. Huddled within the plants’ withering folds were two of Ryu’s classmates.
Botan Kuroiro’s head was bowed, her white hair covering her face. She was bent over Kohana Ojiro, who, even from this distance, had clearly been severely burned up her right leg. Her blond hair had been singed at the tip of her ponytail, and the skin on her leg had become and angry blistering red. It was clear that this was their last stand. They’d been fighting this villain for quite some time, and Kuroiro had tried her best to cover them for protection until help arrived.
“Kuroiro! Ojiro! I’m coming!” Ryu called out to them, running as fast as his legs would take him.
Kuroiro looked up, her brown eyes filled with tears. She smiled at seeing her classmate. Suddenly, crimson fire engulfed the large structure of black plants. Kuroiro and Ojiro had completely disappeared from sight.
“No!” Ryu screamed out. Without hesitation, he was sprinting across the field, hardening to the point he could still move and break through the fire.
The heat came first. A fireball crashed through Ryu next, forcing him to slow to take on the rush of fire.
“It’s a lot easier when the brats come to me,” a voice hissed out. “I can’t wait to burn this whole damn school to the ground.” He chuckled darkly.
Ryu pulled himself together, coughing aggressively from his smoke-filled lungs. No matter what villain was attacking him, his classmates needed him now. He wouldn’t leave them to suffocate or burn to death. He continued to charge toward the plants that had gone ablaze, hoping he wasn’t already too late.
“Where the hell do you think you’re going, kid? Ignoring me isn’t an option.”
A hand, red-hot like a branding iron, hit Ryu’s chest. Ryu’s hardening couldn’t even fully withstand the inferno that was unleashed on him. Ryu let out a painful cry as the crimson fire blasted him across the blackened grass. He bounced, once, twice, three times. What little was left of Ryu’s hero costume was sizzling and smoldering. Heat swirled and pulsed around him.
Wisps of smoke broke free from the scorched grass. The young man advancing forward had to be the villain that Toga had referred to, Kaji. Piercing cerulean eyes peered out beneath medium-length blond hair that seemed to flow around the crown of his head as wild as a fire. He wore a sleeveless black turtleneck made of an oddly shining material, which was wholly intact despite the crimson fire rippling up his toned arms.
“This place sickens me, and I will relish the day I can burn it all to ash. You should be thanking me. I’m going to end your life before they can make you a slave to The Commission.”
Ryu gritted his teeth. Pain seared across his skin, making it difficult to move, let alone stand. Ryu’s quirk fluctuated over his skin. He clambered away from the approaching villain, sliding across the ground on his back, but his eyes were still on the tent of vegetation where he’d seen his classmates go up in flames. If they didn’t survive, he’d blame himself. He was too weak to get to them.
Kaji glanced in the direction of Ryu’s attention and let out a loud sadistic laugh. “Why are you so concerned about getting to them? I’m sure you already know that they’ve died to my flames.” Kaji had finally reached Ryu. He trapped Kirishima beneath his heavy black boot, putting his full weight onto Ryu’s ribcage. “Besides, your attention should be on the villain that murdered them. It’s rude not to allow me the pleasure of seeing your expression before I kill you.” Kaji scanned Ryu over with a menacing grin. Abruptly, Kaji’s eyes widened, and his gaze stopped on Ryu’s shoulder piece.
Ryu struggled to move under Kaji’s weight. The pressure on his chest made it hard for him to breathe.
“Why the hell are your gears covered in sparkles, and that symbol…?” Kaji asked, gritting his teeth and looking down on the cloud charm loosely hanging from Ryu’s shoulder piece. “You…” he narrowed his eyes at Ryu in realization. “Your mother is Think. She’s that damn mind hero that’s responsible for locking up my old man in Tartarus.” Kaji placed his burning hand to Ryu’s throat, blue eyes ablaze with newfound hatred. “I heard she had a couple of brats. How lucky am I to run into one of them here?” Kaji grinned. “Maybe after I kill you, I’ll pay your whole family a visit. Who am I to keep a family apart by killing just one of them?”
Ryu froze from struggling. His family? He was threatening his family? His mom? Did this villain have no decency? Ryu’s whole body tensed. He wouldn’t let this villain hurt them. Out of the corner of Ryu’s eyes sprung new movement. To Ryu’s relief, it was Kuroiro and Ojiro. He didn’t know how, but Kuroiro had somehow escaped with Ojiro from the burning shelter. Ryu hadn’t failed after all. He’d gotten there in time. They were alive.
“Pay attention!” Kaji roared, throttling Ryu until his glare had met his again. “I just told you I was going to kill you and your whole family, and you don’t have a response? Are you dim or pathetically afraid?”
“I had to ensure my classmates were safe,” Ryu snapped back. Kirishima grabbed Kaji by the wrist, hardening his hand. “And, now that I have, I can properly deal with you. Threatening my family, that’s low, even for a villain.”
Kaji’s eyes flared open. “Who do you think you’re talking to?” He smiled tensely. “You’ll be nothing more than a pile of ash when I’m done with you.” Flames ignited around Kaji’s hand.
Kirishima winced, but he held firm. He hardened up his arm and into his neck. With Kaji so close, he didn’t anticipate Kirishima’s next attack. Between training with his father, Red Riot, in melee combat, and his much smaller mother in taking out stronger opponents, Ryu was more than ready to take Kaji down. The villain’s first mistake would be closing the distance. With Kaji’s type of quirk, he could have easily kept his distance, forcing Ryu to defend rather than attack. Kirishima hooked his legs around Kaji, shifting his weight. In the next instance, Kaji had gone from being on top to being pressed into the ground himself.
A swift blow to Kaji’s head should incapacitate the villain. One heavy strike would allow Kirishima the time to restrain him. Unfortunately, Ryu didn’t have the time to swing because Kaji burst into flame, expanding the inferno from the center of his chest outward. Ryu was forced back, staggering.
“Neat trick, kid. Want to try it again?” Kaji asked.
Ryu wiped sweat from his brow, swaying on his unsteady feet. How long had he been fighting? How much longer could he keep fighting? His quirk would fail him before his body. His head injury had already disoriented him.
“You’re barely standing. Give up. It’ll only burn for a little while.”
“You’ve got this, Kirishima! Beat that villain’s ass!” Kuroiro cried, her voice coming out harsh and scratchy most likely from smoke inhalation. Her arms encircled Ojiro’s unconscious form tightly.
Kaji’s haunting blue eyes narrowed. He turned his attention back on Kuroiro. He lifted his ignited palm. “Such inpatient brats. If you wanted me to finish burning you first, you should have asked.” He took a step in their direction.
Ryu launched forward, cutting off the path between Kuroiro and Kaji. Red flames engulfed his hardened body. With renewed vigor, Ryu tightened into his unbreakable form. He wouldn’t let Kaji hurt his classmates further. They’ve gone through enough. Ryu would suffer the pain for them to ensure that they stayed safe.
“Everyone has their limits, kid. Protect them all that you want in your final moments. It won’t change the outcome. I’ll burn this shitty school to the ground. It’s what it deserves.” Kaji’s flames only seemed to burn brighter, but it was his words that caught Ryu’s attention. There was the slightest waver in his voice, suggesting maybe even his limits were being reached.
The fire died down, and red hot embers glittered like stars across the burnt grass. Ryu’s body was trembling, but he hadn’t let his quirk soften. The heat left Kirishima with little option to deactivate his quirk without being severely burned.
“Damn, kid. You’re willing to die for such a pitiful place?” Kaji asked. Smoke curled out of his lips. His stance wasn’t as confident. Kaji’s hands shook, small red blisters formed at his fingertips. “You really are…” Kaji steadied his breath. “…pathetic.”
“I’m willing to protect the people I care about until I can’t!” Ryu yelled in determination.
Kaji clenched his teeth shut, lowering his stance. “I’m going to burn you so bad no one will recognize your corpse.” Kaji raised both of his palms. The fire came on slower this time, focused in one area.
Ryu took the blast again, but it wasn’t nearly as hot. When the flames extinguished, Ryu rushed forward. Kaji evaded his attack, blasting fire into Ryu’s face and forcing him away. Kirishima shook his head free of the flame. Ryu rushed him again. This time he was able to avoid the licking flames. Kaji’s body was struggling to maintain the same kind of heat. Ryu’s hardening fluctuated over his body. Ryu maintained a safe distance to dodge, while still pressuring Kaji to use his quirk with quick attacks.
“Stay still!” Kaji roared, fire erupting from his core again.
Ryu gritted his teeth, feeling part of his skin burn. He held his attention on Kaji. An opening would present itself, the crimson fire would continue to diminish. Ryu just needed to hold out longer. The dance continued. The fire had become barely a crackle over Kaji’s skin. Kaji’s eyes widened when he focused on his quirk only for it to fail him. Ryu took his chance. He climbed up the tall frame of the man, hooking his arm around his neck. Ryu pulled back, putting all of his strength the hold around Kaji’s neck.
Kaji staggered. His hands went up to Ryu’s arms. Blistering heat radiated from Kaji’s palms on Kirishima’s forearm in an attempt to get Ryu to release him. Ryu held firm. He wouldn’t let anyone else be hurt by this man. He wouldn’t let him go after his family. Kaji fell back, clawing at Ryu’s hardened wrist. Ryu’s back took the brunt of the force, but there wasn’t enough weight in it to make the air leave him. In one last attempt to make him let go, Kaji set himself aflame, but it was doused almost as quickly as his quirk failed him again. Then, Kaji went limp. Ryu immediately released, lying back and letting his quirk relax. He breathed heavily, head spinning.
“Kirishima, are you okay?!” Kuroiro called out.
Ryu raised one of his arms weakly with a thumbs up. He stayed like that for a moment or two longer, before he pushed Kaji off of him. He was a lot tougher than he expected.
Ryu staggered in Kuroiro’s direction, trying his best to avoid touching his burns. He didn’t want to think of how bad they were. At least the threat was neutralized. “Kuroiro, do you have restraints on you? We need to tie this guy up before he wakes.”
“N-no,” Kuroiro stuttered out. “Are you sure that you’re okay? You should sit down. The teachers should be here soon.”
“Yeah? I hope they’re coming. I’m pretty tired,” Ryu said.
Kuroiro gently moved Ojiro to the side. She stood up and approached Ryu. “I’d imagine so. We need to get you medical attention. What happened to your head? Come on. Sit down.”
“I’m fine, Kuroiro. No need to look so worried.” Ryu gave her a weak smile. “It’s just a scratch. Man, I could really use a nap.” Ryu rubbed the back of his neck.
“Ryu don’t…” Kuroiro’s voice faded.
“What?” Ryu managed to ask before he collapsed.
“Why the hell would you let him run off?! You know that he’s the kind of idiot that puts everyone before himself!” Miu shouted. “Dammit, Ronin! You should have left me and gone and helped him!”
“What did you want me to do, Miu? I couldn’t fight that Nomu, and I would have been even less use against that fire guy. You know Ryu. He wouldn’t have stayed knowing our classmates were in trouble,” Ronin said. “He’s okay, so you don’t have to shout at me anymore.”
“Does he look okay?!” Miu growled out. “And, it was all for nothing because that damn misty villain transported them away before the teachers could do a damn thing!”
“The villains escaped?” Ryu croaked out, peeking one eye open.
Miu jumped back in surprise, her hands at the ready to fight. “Dammit, Boulder Brains! You’re such an idiot! Do you have any idea how worried we were?”
Ryu winced.
“And, now she’s yelling at our injured classmate. I’m sure that’s going to make things better. It’s not like he has a head injury or anything, right? Screaming always helps a splitting headache,” Ronin said sarcastically.
“Shut the hell up, Ronin!”
“The villains got away?” Ryu asked again.
“Not all of them,” Ronin said, glancing at Miu and hoping she wasn’t going to bark at him again. Ronin frowned, looking away. “The ones that you fought did though. That’s why Miu’s sort of angry with me.”
“The correct word is furious, not angry.” Miu crossed her arms over her chest, puffing out her rosy cheeks.
“Where are we?” Ryu asked, trying to get his bearings.
“The damn hospital,” Miu snapped, running a hand down her face. She rolled her big brown eyes. “Serves you right for pushing me out of the way of that Nomu, Boulder Brains,” she muttered under her breath.
Ronin cringed, but he was too scared to scold her for the comment. Ryu just knew that she had been really worried. She was only lashing out because she was really upset.
“I’m just glad you’re okay,” Ryu said.
Miu let out an annoyed growl.
“How is everyone else? Our other classmates?”
“Enatsu and Ojiro were brought to the hospital with you. Turns out Enatsu just needed time for her quirk to recharge to reform her arm. Ojiro had a couple of burns, but she should be released soon too. You had the most severe injuries.”
“Good.” Ryu sighed out in relief.
Miu’s eyes flared open in anger. “Why the hell is that good?!”
Ryu gave her a lopsided smile. “It means that I was able to protect them. That’s why it’s good. I can rest easy knowing everyone made it out okay. It totally sucks the villains got away, but I’m glad.”
Miu blushed, clicking her tongue. She stamped her foot, turning away. “Now that you’re awake, there’s no reason I need to stay here. I’m leaving before I catch your stupid, Boulder Brains.” She stormed out of the room.
Ryu chuckled, shaking his head. He winced when he felt pain in his temple.
“I think she meant to say, ‘Thank you,’” Ronin said.
“It’s fine. I know what she meant.” Ryu smiled, looking toward the door that Miu left from. “Actually, it was nice to hear her voice, even if she was yelling at me. I’m glad everyone’s okay.”
“I hope you keep that positive disposition up for when Mrs. Kirishima gets here.”
Ryu’s smile faded. “They called my mom?” he squeaked out.
Ronin rose from his chair, backing away toward the door. “Yep, and I could actually hear her through Mrs. Kutsuki’s phone. Looks like our teacher couldn’t even calm her down. No offense, bro, but I’ll be heading out before she gets here. I’ve already had my eardrums blown out by Miu, so I’m good. Plus, my moms already told me never to get on your mom’s bad side.”
“My mom rarely yells,” Ryu said distantly. “D-don’t leave, dude!” he called after Ronin.
“Yeah, I’m going to go. Good luck though! You’ve got this,” Ronin said, giving him two thumbs up and leaving Ryu to face his worried mother alone.
