WORLD-BUILDING : GENSHIN IMPACT YAKUZA AU
Tumblr media
FATUI-GUMI
The most powerful organized crime syndicate across Teyvat.
Ruled by the one called “Tsaritsa”.
TERMS AND TERMINOLOGIES :
Kumi - “family”. Extension used to syndicate divisions to indicate togetherness.
Gumi - same as “kumi” but exclusively for darker themes.
Kumicho -  term used to address the highest ranking boss of the Yakuza. Oversees the whole syndicate.
Hime - Not a general term in the Yakuza. Kumicho’s daughter. In this GI universe, the mysterious princess of the Fatui.
Oyabun -  title used for the little bosses of the kumi (divisions) within the Yakuza.
Saiko-komon -  the right hand of the Oyabun when it comes to administration of the group. They oversee everything from business and finance, legal matters, public relations and such.
Komon -  helps the Saiko-komon with decision-making.
Shingiin -  law advisor who takes care of legal matters—from members being incarcerated to operations done on quasi-legal areas.
Kaikei -  the accountant or the bookkeeper who keeps the records of all transactions and administrative documents of the group.
Hisho -  oversees arranging of appointments, meetings and deals of the family.
The “Wakagashira” is the first lieutenant of the oyabun, acting directly upon his orders. Together with the “Shateigashira” or the second lieutenant, they see to it that the orders from the higher-ups are disseminated up to the lowest of the hierarchy and into the streets. To ensure that this happens, the Wakagashira appoints a “Fuku-honbucho” or a leader among the “Kyodai” or big brothers—who then act as enforcers who order and take to the streets as footmen along with their little brothers or “Shatei”.
TRADITION
Yubitsume
As a form of punishment for when a member does something that brought shame and dishonor to the family (eg. failing missions and deals, letting kin die without doing anything, acting out without permission), the Yakuza has been known to do Yubitsume or “finger-cutting”. This ritual is overseen by the Oyabun—or even the Kumicho if an Oyabun (in this case, referring to the head of kai or kumi) committed shameful acts.
Succession of Powers
Once the Kumicho steps down, the eldest among the Oyabun will take over unless stated otherwise. In cases wherein a member of the actual family is within the candidates, they are given priority in consideration above others.
Sakazuki
A sake-exchanging ceremony done to welcome new recruits into the Yakuza. Typically, it is done between an oyabun, or the kumicho, and the new recruit, in which the oyabun drinks sake from a cup which they will offer to the recruit afterwards. The recruit will then finish the drink and keep the cup as a sign of loyalty. It may be done to signify succession of powers (atomesouzuku), welcoming from a higher up (oyakosakazuki) and welcoming from one of the lower members (kyodaisakazuki). The welcoming ceremony ends with a trip to the bathhouse, where the tattooed body of the yakuza members are shown as sign of welcoming.
PREMISE OF THE STORY
THE CHARACTERS
Aether is the First Harbinger among the Oyabun. He is the next in line once the Tsaritsa steps down. Also known as the "Jester", or "Pedrelino" in the main house. He manages the Mondstadt Branch Family of the Fatui-gumi.
Lumine, on the other hand, is not an official member of the Fatui-gumi-- rather, she is a member of the main house by nature of her relation to the head of the family. Called by the Harbingers as "Hime" or "Princess". Nobody outside them knows what she looks like but most are aware of her existence. Regardless, she has been trained in physical combat and the nature of their world from the very young age of 7, together with her twin brother.
Ajax, also known as "Tartaglia" among his colleagues, is the boss of Liyue-kumi. He stands to be the youngest among the Oyabun, sans Aether-- but his height would beg to differ. Three years the senior of the Tsaritsa's twins. Weapons' master at age 15 and considered to be one of the most dangerous among the Fatui. Most Harbingers do not like him.
Tsaritsa, commonly addressed as Kumicho, is the main leader of all of Fatui-gumi. Has odd connections to the ruling leaders of Teyvat including the Qixing, Knights of Favonius, Bakufu etc. Seen as cold but is actually a doting mother to her heirs-- but only within the confines of the main house.
The "admin" of the main house-- consisting of La Signora and two others, takes care of compiling all administrative works regarding the syndicate.
PLOT
Tartaglia X Lumine route.
Tartaglia, upon being assigned as the youngest Harbinger at 14 years old, met the "princess" of the Fatui-gumi as his first trial-- her being his sparring partner. Lumine wipes the floor with him and he became smitten since then.
Lumine would often do undercover missions for her mother or would offer to resolve a few issues she notices via her keen observation. Usually, Tartaglia is the receiving end of this "help" as he could be rash and carefree at times.

Yakuza Hierarchy Terms
The Oyabun is the chief executive of the clan. Becoming the Oyabun requires ambition, intelligence, and ruthlessness.[
The Wakagashira is the second of command, the first lieutenant. It varies by organization but they can be a warboss, an underboss, or an administrator.
The Shategashira is the 2nd lieutenant. He is a regional boss who has a certain degree of independence due to the distance from the rest of the kumi, especially if it's an international operation.
The Wakagashira-hose are the second-in-command to the kumi, who serve as his assistants and underlings. He serves as the buffer between the upper-tier officers and the street-level grunts. They are the highest-ranking to regularly get their hands dirty and are known by sight to the street-level kumi-in.
The Hisho are the secretaries to the high-ranking Yakuza, starting from the wakagashira-hosa and up. Not only do they manage the appointments and provide the Oyabun with sex, but they are also in charge of arranging his meetings and transportation, prioritizing things, and stalling the police. A significant number are completely qualified bodyguards and have implants protecting the secrets they know.
The Kaikei are the legal advisers within the clan. Who look for the loopholes necessary for the clan to operate in the grey quasi-legal areas, and finding new markets and opportunities for the clan. It is their duty to visit members who are incarcerated to arrange conjugal visits, contraband, and so on. They also instruct new recruits in the what is expected from them when they get arrested.
The Komon are the specialists, as in the BTL programmers, doctors to treat the wounded and perform illegal augmentations, porno film directors, drug chemists, hackers, Awakened troubleshooters, and so on.
The Shingin are the accountants of the Yakuza. It's their job to keep the books. They also manage the investments and perform financial projections, quarter-by-quarter market analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and so on.
The Kumi-in are the foot soldiers of the Yakuza, who deliver the Oyabun's message on the streets with their guns and knives. They are also the ones who go to jail for the assault or murder. They are the loan shark collectors, hustlers, bodyguards, lieutenants, enforcers, captains, brothel owners, and gambling joint owners. The higher-ranked ones are called kyodai (big brothers) by their subordinates and the lower-ranked ones are called by their elders shatei (little brothers). Depending on how their clan is structured determines who the kumi-in answers directly to.

To say that I was shocked would be an understatement. Oyabun had a son; a secret we learned just because his mother passed away; leaving the poor kid alone with a bunch of strangers.
Of course we took him in, he deserves a normal childhood after everything he went through - it’s not that Ryu and Kaikei aren’t good parents ; it’s just, we had this tiny bit of hope he would grow out of the Mafia business.

The ceremony was small, with only Hayato’s former gang members as our witnesses. My parents couldn’t arrive due to sudden earthquakes and a sudden snowstorm (in the beginning of fall; could only happen to me).
Even though, It was special to us and we felt loved nonetheless.
