And It Turned Out Fayaris Was Neurodivergent This Entire Time... (This also nerfs something I wrote the other day on this character)

Ok, on Twitter I recently answered a WritingQ if we had any neurodivergent characters.

One character I knew of which is Kailu. He has ADHD. This is something I've always known since the beginning.

Now, with Fayaris, he's a "villain/antagonist" character. He hasn't really had much screen time as other characters. And when he does get his moments, they are mostly to be a pain in the ass to the MCs.

But after answering this WritingQ, it has gotten me to think about the times this character when he's been alone with his thoughts (and this is making me want to revisit a chapter that was just with him and him only.)

The thing that I've noticed after writing out my answer to this question:

He's extremely skilled in weapons, poisons, planning, and tactics

He struggles with his emotions. Now, that I'm thinking about it, he's the real him when around certain people (e.g. Alosrin.) But will mask a majority of time (just like Kailu, but there are different factors involved with this character and will be discussed another day.)

Fayaris is known to be impulsive (especially if his emotions has been bottled for too long.)

He's known to struggle with orders, especially if they are to harm people he cares about.

This guy was manipulated at a young age*. *I know this doesn't mean anything because any child can be manipulated regardless of being neurodivergent or neurotypical. But with this character because of this, it made the real villains, Droinyon and Ilythyrra job easier mold him to do their bidding. Or so they think (hey, he does wise up after a point, but it takes a while and this still doesn't excuse his behavior. Even he admits that.)

Which makes me hate Droinyon and Ilythyrra even more. They are known across the Kaeyama for their abusive and manipulative behaviors. These characters have no regard for anyone or anything that isn't wrapped in their plans or each other. After realizing all of this - I am going to enjoy their deaths even more when I jump that hurdle.

And as for the mental health bit I've mentioned. I'm sure he suffers from something along those lines too. But needs to be explored more. Which will be soon!

1. Keres is quick to anger but not quick to show it. She believes in justice and karma, and will dole it out quite freely to those who piss her off

2. No. People get a good feeling, and they can put in the work to make a good relationship, but there is no romantic destiny.

3. When people who open a closed door don't close it again when they leave, when people don't just say what they mean when there's no reason not to be honest

4. Idk if it's a happy place or relaxing, but they consistently try envision and empty field, with mountains in the distance to one side, and the open sea on the other

5. On the pirate ship, 'la tombe aquatique' or 'the watery grave' these people were her family for the longest time, about 11 years

6. Her childhood, from about 6 onwards when memories started forming to 15 when they ran away

7. Just as likely to buy someone a drink and be bought a drink

8. They've probably broken their elbow before and had to wear a sling for a while

9. There's a lot of neglect in their childhood they could do without

10. They were only 15 when they left home, still a child, and only just 16 when they became a pirate. So I would say their best childhood memories are the early days on the open sea, finally being shown love and attention.

11. Keres believes variety is the spice of life. Ultimately I think they are attracted to competence and confidence. If you're good at what you do, whatever that is, she's interested

12. A party member, Kailu, is fond of making trinkets, and has made them one before. I can't remember what it was at this moment so [edit later with that answer]

13. Nope! They have a mark on their forehead of the moon, that changes depending on what phase they are attuned to, but it's a birthmark not a tattoo

14. Their ears are pierced and they have a septum ring

15. It's a large manor type house. It has a wine cellar, space for an observatory. They desire a dark academia aesthetic when it comes to interior design

16. Just by looking at them, people would not expect her to be human. She looks more like an elf or a tiefling, but nope!

18. They're very good at singing,they could've made a career of it had they chosen that path

19. A stranger would describe them as eye candy, a pleasure to meet and even more to watch walk away

20. Those who know them would describe them as loyal and thoughtful. They are a very adept spellcaster, and intwined in a mystery of divine proportions

21. After years of neglect, yeah they're riddled with insecurities. They're scared their magic is the wrong kind, and to many it is. As they learn more about the source of their magic, Lusacan, they fear they cannot live up to his expectations. Failing to meet expectations is a big one, especially as romance is blossoming with Ferne, the sword to the seer. That's an impressive woman, compared to a sorcerer who never trained properly.

22. Their highest physical stat is constitution, and their highest non physical stat is charisma, which is maxed out at 20!

23. Everyone lies, so it is to be expected. Their reaction really depend on who told it, what they lied about, and their motivation about it.

24. They prefer cold weather, but it's easier to dress hot in warm weather, so this has its merits too.

25. Very hard. They might think it feel it but they've only said it outloud a few times platonically. Beyond that would be a nightmare

26. Their party members will hear their concerns, because they're very upfront about their belief that no one should suffer alone. If they want these people to open up to her, she has to open up to them first.

27. Yes. They've killed people, Brian. But also uh, Levi, a party member, died, and it was devastating.

28. You can try and tickle them, but their psychic lance is deadly and they're not afraid to use it.

29. It's quite low. Sorcerer hit dice are d6, so their HP is abysmal.

30. They're scared to say I love you. They're scared to learn to speak draconic. They're scared to go to Orlais, go to the university, and meet the human identity that Lusacan has assumed to exist in society. They will do all these things in time

31. They are a very neat eater.

32. When they were a young child, their mother told them the story of their birth, who they were a monster. Her mother told her they named her Keres because it means evil spirits, and this woman looked at her newborn baby and saw evil.

33. When they arrived in Aren to answer the call to adventure only to find a few familiar faces, and new people who welcomed them with such open arms. When Kailu and Keres together found out Aelin's real identity, and spoke with Lusacan- she felt very close to them. When Ferne kissed her, and deeply understand that Keres' loyalties will always lie with the party first, and that wasn't a problem for them. Whenever Ro druidcrafts them a gift.

34. I think they would hate to lose their hearing as music is such a gift in their life.

35. Yes, with a 20 charisma they're very good at all kinds of talking

36. They would ask their mother if the man who raised her is really her father, or did she have an affair with a man that Keres now knows to be Lusacan. This is a question she will one day ask. I think another option would be to ask Gage if there is a way to stop a blight from occurring, can the rest of these beings be saved. Furthermore, is there a way to reverse the process.

37. If they could go to the past and stop the first blight from ever occurring, they would. Otherwise they would go to the future.

38. The biggest positive impact is Shay. That is the person who raised them, who showed them love. Keres knows happiness because this person picked them up off the streets. The person who has had the most negative impact is their mother, Marie

39. They would rather live surrounded by people they care for

40. They fear that there will never be an answer to all the questions they have.

Thoughts on J-Novel Translation of The Slayers, Delusion in Crimson Ch 3

Not much thoughts here. It was a rather action packed chapter. There is a big spoiler below the cut for those who have not read it. There are some nice moments with Lina and Gourry, including Lina thinking of him as “my guy” and them doing some good teamwork to take down Zonagein. Gourry is also the one who looks after the group, suggesting that they all get some rest after escaping Kailus’s place.

Aria also starts to come in on her own and we can see the impact of Lina’s tutelage. Lina would definitely make a good teacher and mentor. This is also a rather dark novel, starting with the death of Dilarr. I guess with the next update we’ll see whether or not I have any ideas on why this one is so dark and how it fits in the larger arc of the second half.

Ramon was probably my least favorite character from The Get Down. But this scene was incredibly well crafted. The man genuinely believes his life has come to it’s end. Everything he knew and cherished has been taken from him and in his heart of hearts he believes that the Devil is to blame for this. Ever the strong pastor he heads to his sanctuary, his Church and delivers his most powerful sermon. To a crowd of no one but God.

Matteo’s backstory

He lived in relative peace with his parents and his brother until raiders came and attacked them. His clan is pretty reclusive and because of their fey ties it makes them interesting to scholars and slavers makes a lot of money off them.

Once the raiders found them, many of their clan members were taken and/or killed. His parents, along with all his immediate blood relatives, were guardians and died defending the village, leaving Matteo and his brother alone.

After that, he was sad but he was still okay because he had his brother and never searched to avenge his parents and the rest of his family because of his brother too.

Then Kailu fell sick after some outsiders passed through their village - their clan usually never lets anyone in, however it was life or death situation for the adventurers and they passed quickly - he was 20 years old when it happened.

Matteo and Kailu stayed with the Ji Iya (Their clan’s name) for 3 years trying to find a cure with the healer of their clan, Mihangyl who was also their caretaker after their parents died. Seeing that nothing worked, Matteo decided they needed to leave to find a cure - Kailu was happy to comply because he always wanted to go on adventures. They wandered around for 2 years and then Kailu’s symptoms got worse. That’s when they stumbled upon the ‘‘merchants’‘ with their special elixir that could supposedly cure everything.

Matteo tried to find/make as much money as he could - it was never enough for the ‘‘merchants’‘. After that, they said he couldn’t see Kailu anymore. They blamed it on the fact that he was too sick and it was contagious, Matteo was permitted to ‘‘see’‘ him on his birthday (Kailu was 30!), but he had already been dead for a year, which sent Matteo in a unbridled rage. He used whatever he could to tear the ‘‘merchants’‘ apart, making them suffer as much as he could. He hasn’t killed anyone since then. He gave a proper burial to his brother and never went back to that place even when traveling a lot.

It’s been 10 years since then and still haven’t forgiven himself. He was consumed by sorrow and grief and started to self-harm in any ways he could. Always wanting to die to atone for his ‘‘crime’‘ but he’s in love with life. He’s in love with the life that he and his brother had shared. If he died who else would remember his brother last moments? And after all, what’s the greatest punishment could there be but continuing living in agony?

He hasn’t gone back to his village, it would hurt too much, so now he wanders around with no real purpose - he tries to help everyone he can though.

As for me, I keep on getting hit with roadblocks, and it's been irking the hell out of me.

What I was working on before this nonsense was my Sparktember file (I really do need to get a better name for this). I was adding stories that weren't seen in the original drafts and with one story I'm trying *not* to retcon a tie-in short story. So, there's a lot of moving parts. But enough of this. Let's introduce these characters, shall we?

Character introductions, these characters are in my main project - The Legend of Bolyra - but as kids. So, these side stories are them as adults. Because I want to develop them more and write some cozy stuff:

Mirtil - He's a Snow Elf and Head Royal Captain of the Snow Elves' Army. He's also Prince Kede's love interest (which is one sided at the moment. Kede is... how you say... Dense in the romance department) and childhood friend of Niraneris and Kede.

Prince Kede - In the Sparktember story he's mainly mentioned and used as a talking point between Mirtil, Niraneris, Sariandi, and Loreleia. He along with Niraneris are the twin son and daughter of Aerilaya and Alosrin.

Princess Niraneris - She, along with her twin brother are a unique Elven race known as Twilight Elves. Despite her title of Princess, she works at the Healers' Guild with her girlfriends, Sariandi and Loreleia as a Trauma Healer. She's also known for creating Rune powered machines from Ancient Dwarven texts Kailu recovered during his travels with Aerilaya, Alosrin, and Kimiko.

Sariandi - She's a Snow Elf Trauma Healer and one of Niraneris girlfriends. She along with Niraneris are referred to as the 'Soothers' as ease pain with a combination of Frost and Shadow Magic.

Loreleia - She's a Shadow Forest Elf Trauma Healer and is known in Healers' Guild for her unique healing abilities with her Shadow and Nature Magic Abilities. She's also Niraneris and Sariandi's girlfriend. The three of them are childhood friends.

Writing Tag Game

I was tagged in a Writing Tag Game by @kiraofthewind and I was given silver, terror, smile, and bottle for my word searches.

These snippets will be from The Legend of Bolyra.

Silver:

When Kailu entered the room, he went over to his bag, and pulled out a beautifully crafted white silver ring adorned with rare gems from the Shimmermore Mines before he flopped onto the bed. Old memories filled his mind as he stared at the ring. 

“I hope you’re safe, Lilac, and I’m sorry.” He whispered as he set the ring on the nightstand next to him along with the gold burnished earring, a small round gold hair clip, and his blue scarf before he kicked off his boots and slowly drifted asleep. 

Terror:

A scream of terror and pleading filled the corridor of the temple as Aerilaya ran with the weapons she’d borrowed. “Please stop this…” Merialeth pleaded. “All they’ll do is betray you, regardless if you are a god, a Vernmer, Snow Elf, or Moon Elf. The twin Goddesses don’t care!” Another shrill of pain came as strange chanting started. 

A thick, scarlet light could be seen as she grew closer. “No… not that. Not the Illasi Consius spell.” Aerilaya felt her heart race when she recognized the glow of the spell and the chant.

Smile:

“What was your home like?” Nura asked as Aerilaya let out a thoughtful sigh as she removed her pendants. The chains clinked together which alerted Nura to their removal. “Necklaces?” The blind child questioned as Aerilaya smiled and nodded. “Yes. They are important items to me. They were both made by my father, King Biryor, for my mother, Queen Merialeth, and I. One was for my 8th birthday and the other for my parents 100th wedding anniversary.” She felt a wave of emotions wash over her. 

Bottle:

Aerilaya flipped open the bag and pulled out the drug the Forest Elf Healer gave her. Grabbing two silver-looking pills and the water. Aerilaya hesitated for a moment before taking them. Feeling a chill running down her spine, she shook as her body felt back to normal. Once things had adjusted she threw on her clothes, grabbed her Sword, and Throwing Knives before heading out the door leaving behind a confused Kailu as thunder crashed. He started to run after he noticed she was back to full health, but stopped when the glass pill bottle shimmer in the dim light as lightning flashed. When he grabbed the bottle he looked it over to find a label in caps saying MITHRIL. 

“Mithril? How did she get a hold of this? I thought this addictive junk was banned?” Kailu shook his head while putting the bottle back before leaving to catch up with Aerilaya.
