Kahlil Robert Irving
Love is explored through layers in Kahlil Robert Irving's work. His work is also displayed in the High Museum called “My Grandmother’s Cupboard (2020), a tribute to honour the legacy of people of colour and their family food traditions. His work is inspired by and linked to Ernestine Irving who is his grandmother. It explores generational traditions and family lineage to connect ideas.
Irving also identifies through his series the black ceramic dinnerware is a collection of objects that is a metaphor for the meals made by his grandmother. Irving has explored that having love as a theme is a reflection of one’s life and how people are influential to what we say and do. His connection with love in his personal life has followed through into his creative space as a reflection of his relationship with his grandmother.
