In what specific moments from Banana Fish & BNHA, that made you sure that Ash and Bakugou are special, that made them your favorite characters?

Agh, my boysssss! You had to dig deep in the asks for that specific lore. But, you must already know a little something to have honed in on these two characters specifically.

Generally, I love both of these characters for the same reason:

Enigmatic.They are introduced as brazen, arrogant and crude only to be exposed for their softness and complexity with time. They're onions (thank you Donkey from Shrek).

Intelligent nerds. Ash is literally prodigal and spends his time in the New York Library, nerd. Bakugo is quick-witted with an incredible battle sense and a grandpa bedtime, nerd.

Sarcasm. The above goes hand-in-hand with their intelligence but they're funny and flippant which makes them both abrasive but also entertaining. I love that they're both little shits.

Trauma. Both characters undergo trauma that is overlooked, to a degree, or minimized because of the nature of their character without allowing consideration for the fact that they may be rough around the edges as a response. The more you learn about their character, origin, motivations, it just endears you to them. Or at least that's what it did for me.

Bravado. In line with all the above, I think their overconfidence or the appearance of such also pushes them into corners where, even when scared or at a loss, they have no choice but push forward because its what people look to them for.

Redemption. Both of them carry burdens without a clear path forward but, ultimately, come around to doing what they think is the right thing for the people they care about. Even while battling their inner demons.

Arthur vs Ash, Final Showdown - At this point in the story, we've seen the things that Ash can and will do to protect his gang and we've come to understand that a 17 year old comes to be a fearsome gang leader by being as strong as he is ruthless, sometimes. But Eiji's introduction into his life creates a feeling of something he needs to protect and keep soft. I think what was compelling about the showdown with Arthur is how he was totally fine until he realized Eiji was there. It made him angry but, more likely, it made him fearful that Eiji would see in him the wretched person he believes himself to be. That fear is human and it shows he's not as stoic as he pushes himself to be.

Shooting at Cape Cod - Taking the story to Cape Cod was a choice. It was a temporary beat from the chaos of what would always follow them, as long as they still kept scratching at the mystery of what banana fish was. But Cape Cod also provided additional texture to Ash's character while beautifully illustrating how soft and carefree he could be before reality brings him back to himself. Showing Eiji to shoot and relaxing into the fun of it before being coldly reminded that he is who he is (not so much by Max but in realizing he was being perceived). Cape Cod is his origin and it is hideous and sad but, in the space of these moments, the trauma of it doesn't tarnish who he is. But it shows how and why he hides so much of himself.

Fear of Halloween - AGAIN, I love how you have this military trained (under Golzine's direction and Blanca's tutelage) who has undergone heinous trauma at the hands of pretty much every adult in his life. He grits his teeth and bares it, he pushes forward tempered by these horrible experiences but remains incredibly soft and vulnerable. His fear of Jack-o-Lanterns is just so unexpected and fodder for Eiji but I think it highlights something wholesome and sad in Ash.

Ash in Glasses. That's it, that's the justification.

Simply, Ash is a survivor and he deserved better than thinking he should crawl back to the library and die, discarded. I think the moments that endear him to me most are those unexpected bouts of vulnerability mixed into the facade he has to hold to simply survive in the life that a perfect storm of circumstances forged. Additionally, I think these moments are not just specific to Ash but typical of the chemical reaction between he and Eiji because it's Eiji who unlocks his vulnerability as the person who never wanted anything from him but for him to come home safe.

Katsuki Bakugo

Sludge Monster Villain - That desperate and pleading look that he shoots Midoriya is really the first glimpse of what's beneath all his bluster and it's the very moment that sets off Midoriya's hero origin story. It's also the first bit of trauma that just gets... glossed over in the story. See below for Useless Victory.

Sports Festival - The way he faces Uraraka earnestly (which is so grotesquely misconstrued by viewers) because of his general attitude and perception. I really need to wrap up all my Manga With Me chapters because most of the guys in Class 1A continue to overlook and underestimate the girls of Class 1A and 1B but Bakugo, quite earnestly, gives Uraraka the respect and consideration she deserves.

Useless Victory at the Sports Fest - Bakugo is so incredibly principled. He could take the easy win but, in his heart of hearts, if he couldn't beat Todoroki at his full strength, then he can never truly think that he bested Midoriya. He acts out in ways that are not understood by the readers or even the spectators in universe. Ultimately, they muzzle and shackle him echoing in the same way that the Sludge villain. The act shows the League of Villains and anyone else watching the best way to incapacitate him and also further likens him to a villain in the eyes of spectators who continue to vilify him.

The Little Ways He Cares - For the sake of not expounding too much, I thought to consolidate this into one bullet but really, Bakugo is like... so awkward. Like, he might want to connect with others but he has no idea how but I just know he thinks he's really doing something by being an enigmatic wall of fortitude.

1. Having Denki use his quirk to break the tension after the rescue crew got in trouble after saving him from the LOV and making it a point to pay Kirishima back. 2. The way he tries to be civil to Todoroki (because he's an eavesdropping little shit) 3. The way he subtly galvanizes Class 1A's effort for the school festival. 4. "When you guys are in danger, I will save you. When I'm in danger, you guys save me." 5. All of My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising 6. Being in Todoroki's room ahead of the war to face off against Dabi, even if he had no words to offer in consolation. 7. Telling Best Jeanist to look after everyone knowing he was about to sacrifice his life in the face off with Shigaraki

Character Growth Unencumbered by an Unreliable Narrator - As Midoriya begins to shelter his heart in later chapters, we start seeing more insight into Bakugo's true nature. His features soften, we see more of his Midoriya-centered thoughts, we comprehend the depth of his insecurities and how his past behavior was eating him up inside. There's a beautiful conclusion to his story as a hero, Kacchan Bakugo, with his fist held high. Paying homage to the man he looked up to (All Might and Midoriya), victorious in saving his idol and setting his childhood friend up to achieve certain victory. I can't wait to see how his story ends.

A/N: first my hero academia fic??? neeed!!!! angry boy need tickled sometimes. god help whoever does it tho.

Summary: Bakugo is all three things: loud, angry, and ticklish. One of them is less obvious than the others, and he wants to keep it that way.

Loud, angry, and ticklish — these were among the many words that could describe Bakugo Katsuki. Like his quirk, he was often explosive with his voice and his temper. Ticklish, though? That was a pretty well-hidden feature, and one that not many would be willing to try with him! Not that anyone had in a long time. 

Until today. 

The sound of tittering laughter and chatter, much too loud and too cheery to be school-related, drew an already grumpy Bakugo toward the common room of the dorms. It seemed to be the place to be, he realized, when he walked in and saw most of his classmates relaxing around the couch, laughing and talking.

“What the hell are you all laughing about in here?” Bakugo barged in, asking loudly.

“Bakugo! Come on, Sero was just telling us the funniest story about—” Ochaco waved him over.

Bakugo cut her off. “Why don’t you losers stop sitting around laughing and wasting all day and get some goddamn work done! Ugh, Icy Hot and I have been working twice as hard as the rest of you because of our extra classes, and now you’re all slacking off?! It’s gonna be way too easy for me to surpass you! Where’s the challenge in that!? Now get off your asses and stop slacking!!!” 

Everyone stared back at him, their giggling long gone.

“It’s Sunday afternoon Bakugo…” Momo sighed.

“Yeah, come on, even heroes need to rest.” Tsu added.

“It’s good for you to relax a little. We’re all still training super hard!” Mina assured her classmate.

“Shut up! You’re all just a bunch of slackers and losers!” Bakugo grumbled loudly.

“Would it kill you to relax? Maybe smile a little?” Kaminari asked.

Bakugo turned to look at him, glaring with fuming rage. 

“We’re not even doing anything to bother you, Bakubro, come on!” Kaminari bargained. “If you want to keep studying then go back to your room, you don’t have to sit here watching us relax if you don’t want to join us.” 

“I WANT YOU TO TAKE YOUR STUDIES SERIOUSLY SO THAT IT MEANS SOMETHING WHEN I KICK YOUR ASS!!!” Katsuki yelled back.

“Seriously, come on…” Kirishima sighed. “You know we’ve all been working hard, we deserve some chill time!” If he squinted, it almost looked like Bakugo was steaming with anger.

In the dorms, with his guard down, focused on arguing with his friends and surrounded by his classmates, Bakugo didn’t sense the approach of his childhood friend from behind until it was too late. 

With a wide grin on his face, Midoriya had managed to creep up behind the grumpy, yapping dog that was Bakugo. He remembered something about his friend from a long time ago, and though he hadn’t tried it in many, many years, he was sure it would help here.

It was a matter of moments between when Bakugo was yelling back at Kirishima and Kaminari and when he finally felt the presence of someone approaching from behind. He ignored it for a second too long. Midoriya’s voice was friendly as it chided. “Kacchan, why are you being so mean?” And suddenly there were accompanying fingers pinching along Bakugo’s sides. 

“—GET BACK TO WO-AHHIIHHH!” His rant cut off into a very un-hero-like squeal at the unexpected tickle. Bakugo’s face, which was already red with anger, ripened further as he slowly spun his head to look behind him at Midoriya. “What. The FUCK!!!” 

“What just happened!?” Kaminari asked, smirking.

“Was that you Bakubro?” Kirishima said in disbelief.

“Deku, what did you just do?” Ochaco laughed.

“Oh my gosh! Bakugo are you ticklish?” Mina grinned, wiggling in her seat.

“That’s so cute!” Tsu agreed.

“Wait what? I missed it!” Sero turned to face him better.

Bakugo growled. “Deku…” 

Midoriya’s eyes widened as he saw Kacchan shift his weight to launch an offensive his direction. “Wait! Kacchan, I’m sorry don’t kill meEE—” He quickly sped off with a squeal out of the common room and into the hall as Bakugo bolted after him as fast as he could without shooting out explosions.

“I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU, DEKU!”

“I’m sorry! I didn’t know you would react so much!” Izuku laughed as he raced ahead of his rival and old friend. 

“SHUT UP AND PREPARE TO DIE!”

The rest of the class left them to it, not wanting to incur the wrath of a furious Bakugo as Midoriya just had. They were grateful to their classmate for allowing them to continue relaxing for a few more hours without having criticisms screamed at them. Bakugo had a point, but so did they. They would have to work hard but still relax hard, play hard. 

Down the hall, Shoji picked up the sound of a scuffle before everyone heard crash and tumble followed by the familiar sound of Midoriya’s laughter… though this time it sounded much more frantic than it usually did after a good story or funny joke. 

… 

Izuku didn’t know what he had been thinking when he’d tried to tickle Kacchan for a brief second in the common room of their dorm… He had been yelling at everyone and looked so angry, Izuku just wanted to distract him for a moment and maybe get him to relax or smile a little. He remembered having tickle fights with Kacchan when they were kids. It had been a long, long time. This time, he got the jump on him, just for a moment. It was in front of their classmates, so other people now knew Kacchan was ticklish. It made sense that he was so angry, he was angry a lot. But, it had been nice to catch a hint of his smile. Even if he had embarrassed him a little. 

Now that he’d done it, though, he realized too late the wrath he had provoked. 

Izuku sped down the hall as fast as he could, trying to race back to his dorm room in time to try to lock himself inside—though… Katsuki seemed mad enough that he might just activate his quirk and blow the door down. He didn’t make it far enough to find out, though. Bakugo crashed into him, shouting obscenities as he knocked them both to the ground. 

“Wait! Kacchan don’t! Not out here!” Midoriya yelped as Bakugo landed on him. He knew he was caught.

“Stupid Deku, see how you fucking like it!!” Bakugo growled, pushing Midoriya into the floor and kneeling over his thighs. He reached down, jabbing harsh, tickling fingers ruthlessly into Izuku’s sides. They squeezed up along his ribs and down to his hips. Izuku screeched out a laugh before flailing helplessly where he was already pinned. He tried to reach back behind him to grab or block a hand. 

“KACCHAHAHAN— I’M SORRYHEHEHE!” Izuku shrieked through his laughter. “IHIHIHI- I CAHAHAN’T BREHEHEATHE!” He cried, kicking into the floor. 

“Good! Die!!!” Bakugo answered, loud and angry, as he made a grab for Izuku’s wrist and hauled it up over his head. 

“NOHOHOHO— STAHAHAHAHOP!” Izuku cackled. 

Bakugo drilled fingers into his exposed armpit, and Midoriya felt tears welling in his eyes. Bakugo was ticklish, certainly, but Midoriya was… well neither of them had ever met anyone else so sensitive. How strange a trait for one determined to be the number one hero — to crumple and fall apart in the face of some simple tickling. Though, he wouldn’t call what Bakugo was putting him through ‘simple’. 

The way Bakugo saw it, the others may have seen that he was ticklish, but if he could make enough of an example out of Midoriya, no one else would dare try it again. He hoped. 

Midoriya’s other arm flailed and tapped out helplessly on the ground as Bakugo took advantage of every ticklish spot he could remember. The tickling hand even snuck down beneath him to claw against his stomach. “PL-PLHEEHEHEHEASE KACCHAN IHIHIHIHIHI CAN’T! CAHAHAN’T TAKE IT! AHAHA-STAHAHAHAHAHA—” 

Katsuki leaned in closer, still tickling viciously. “Never. Ever. Fucking. Do that again.” He paused for a second, his hand freezing against Izuku’s sides. “Understand me?” 

Izuku breathed in a few times, panting for air and giggling each breath out. After a few seconds, he spoke up. “Y-You mean like in front of people or just in general?” 

Bakugo’s face went red as he shouted, “IDIOT!” and started tickling anew.

y'know what i think? shounen manga will always have straight relationships for their protagonists even if they never provide an explanation or scenes for it to make sense. that panel where it said that since everyone is important to deku then no one is really special? it's giving me the same kind of disappointment when sasuke married sakura when everyone knew that naruto had his respect and was the one who really understood him the most. ochako's married life will be no different from sakura because she will be left alone for the sake of her husband savin gother people. i don't know itf mangaka are aware of this but women deserve better than that. but i'm just assuming about it right now and i'm not assured that izuku would even be a good partner for ochako. they're cute together and i can see it happening but i don't think they can make it work. relationships are hard work.

I 100% agree with your point i think poor canon relationships are such shounen manga phenomenons that i’m not even surprised lol. That said i think it’s sadder because i up until now Horikoshi had handled Uraraka’s character with such care and love that i didn’t ever think she would wound up as a man’s love interest, even if i did not ship bkdk, i wouldn’t see izuocha together because ochako had to reject Izuku’s very idea of heroism to reach out to Toga. She was not the a sacrificing lamb so what was the point in pretending to be? Her conversation with Toga is handled with such nuance and care that it doesn’t only reflect on societal prejudice and oppression against Toga’s expression of herself and her love but also depicts such tenderness and innocence in these feelings that are shunned. I’m not saying Uraraka should mourn for the rest of her life, but to make her be the love interest of the very person she had to grow out of for development is simply sad. As for Bakugo and deku, they did literally get the Sasuke and Naruto treatment. To carefully curate their relationship for over 400 chapters only to dwindle it down to nothing and making them part ways is simply sad. They are so deeply intertwined together as people that their very ideas of heroism and victory are reflective of one another’s, and its funny because at some point both had to adapt to another’s ideology, switching from save to win to win to save, and proving that one cannot exist without the other. Bakugo being symbolically tied to Kudo when fighting AFO, Bakugo renaming himself to be “Kacchan Bakugo,” in his face, Izuku awakening black whip because he heard bakugo being insulted, Izuku saying “give MY kacchan back to ME,” to Mr compress who was so weirded out that he had to explain Bakugo wasn’t anyone’s possession. Only for them to wordlessly part ways? For their interaction, supposedly final, to be so lacking of substance? Even if people don’t ship them it’s still so obvious that this conclusion watered down all three characters and that they ended up being only a shell of who they used to be.

Bakugo x fem Reader|| Casual Misunderstanding

How did this happen? The big bad bully Katsuki Bakugo, and this frail looking girl, sitting at the same table. She was right next to him too! Class 2A stared at the pair with frightened eyes, each of them turning to talk to each other about this horrendous sight. Sure, Bakugo has gotten better at communicating and he’s not much of a bully per say, but he definitely hasn’t lost his loud angry energy, so everyone was weary of him!

“We have to go save her…” Izuku muttered to Iida and Ochako who were the closest to him. They didn’t know who this girl was but they knew in their hearts she didn’t deserve to be held in this captive situation. “I really thought that Bakugo has changed! Now he’s going around bullying girls and making them sit with him!” Iida said next, slamming his fist into the palm of his hand, “we’ll set him straight,” Iida continued, “This is the last time he bullies a soul!” “Not very hero like.” Kirishima said right after with his hand behind his head. He looked like he was tired of having to talk to his best friend.

Bakugo moved to wrap his arm around the girl’s shoulder and Mineta screamed as he did it. Her beautiful precious shoulders have to take the weight of that hog!!” Everyone shuddered. The mall that they were in was not very crowded, which made their hiding actually worse. They looked so stupid packing up on one another just to have a look at this scene. The girl next to Bakugo reached down to her drink and raised it to Bakugo’s lips. Her hands were shaking.

“Oh the horror! Okay! I can’t take this anymore!” Mina says with tears forming in her eyes, “we have to go stop this madness right now!!” Suddenly, Bakugo turned around very very slowly. His entire body, turning red with every turn he took. His red eyes, made contact with Izuku, then Iida, then everybody else. “What in the actual FUCK are you idiots DOING?!” He bellowed from the bottom of his heart! Everyone screamed again, falling backwards on top of one another! “Are you jackasses STALKING ME?!” Bakugo yelled again, stomping over to his class with the girl behind him.

Izuku sat up first, waving his hands around. “No Kacchan never! We were walking around and then we saw you sitting with that poor girl! How could you force her to eat with you?! I never thought you’d be the type to take hostages!” “Take a hostage?!” Bakugo screamed in his face. He grabbed Izuku by his shirt and almost punched him! Almost.

“You idiots this is my GIRLFRIEND!!” Silence. More silence. “I’m sorry, your what?” Denki asked with a silly smile. Katsuki grabbed his hair, “girl. Friend.” He grumbled again, shoving the blonde into Jiro. Everyone looked at each other blankly, then collectively they let out an, “ohhhhh!” Face palming each other with light laughs. “Girlfriend!” Katsuki moved aside and very gently pushed the girl forward; the girl, was you.

Then you guys ruined it. Whose idea was this?” Everyone pointed a finger at Izuku, who looked to his feet with a beet red face.

Bakugo deeply sighed. “Deku. Course it is.” He said with a scowl. Izuku raised his hands again. “I-I’m sorry Kaachan I didn’t know! If I had known I wouldn’t have thought that—” “That what?! My GIRLFRIEND was in danger?! Fuck off.” The blonde laced his fingers with your s/c ones and he walked away from them, gently pulling you along. “I’m so sorry about my classmates. Let’s get you your favorite snacks, hm?” He spoke to you with the kindest voice ever. You laugh at his change in tone and you hold his hand. “I like your friends! They’re so funny and kind.” Bakugo gave you a kind smile his cheeks dusting pink, his eyes wandering. He never behaved that way around you. He was always soft spoken and kind. “You should’ve never seen me like that.” “It’s okay! I love every part of you!” You tell him right away with a nervous smile. Bakugo bent to kiss your forehead. “Yeah yeah let’s go get that snack.” “Hehe…okay, thank you honey!” You chirp, holding his arm and leaning on him. “Don’t mention it.” All the while, the class kept staring. They then talked to each other about how gentle he was with you and how he smiled and stroked your head. They’ve never seen him so..so calm!

It was sad (and kinda infuriating) to see some fellow bkdks losing their sh*t and hating on izuku in these last few chapters. Saying that he didn't care about katsuki and that katsuki was killed because of him, he should be talking to him instead of ochako, katsuki deserves better than izuku etc.

Like 80 percent of this show is literally izuku going "kacchan sugoi" but the minute he went to comfort a friend, he suddenly doesn't care about katsuki?? I understand that it's frustrating because even I wanted to see izuku's thoughts more but some of these people were acting like izuku owes something to bakugo for saving him.

I can't even... even the BKDKs?! You know what, I'm not even surprised because it seems everyone has it out for him. Some of this fandom just have disappointed me! I'm not even joking.

I will never understand the ones who will have a ship but not like one half of the ship, let alone understand that character.

Like, damn the next episode will show just how Izuku can react when it comes to Katsuki. How would he not care about him?

If your thought process when seeing Izuku comfort Ochako is "He doesn't care about Katsuki", I guess you must have thought that whenever he saves and comfort everyone else.

I guess when he wants to save other people he doesn't care about Katsuki. I guess when he smiles at one of his other friends, he doesn't care about Katsuki. I guess when he isn't giving Katsuki attention because he's busy with someone or something else he doesn't care about Katsuki.

That's ridiculous.

Question: let's say it was... Shoto that Izuku went to comfort, would any of you still think Izuku doesn't care about Katsuki? Or is it because Ochako is a girl, some of you felt "threatened" and disgusted by her presence?

Because ain't no way, some of you are really thinking Izuku doesn't care about Katsuki.

Some of you are no better than other shippers who want Izuku to be with a girl because "his story isn't complete unless he gets the girl" and "he's straight".

Look, just because Katsuki be getting #1 on popularity polls doesn't mean he's oh so special that he deserves Izuku like he's a prize. He isn't.

Izuku is expressive with his emotions, he also tends to hide them, too. (I relate to that so much.) He's the type of person who will put his feelings aside just to cater to something and someone else.

Him narrating reflects that! We don't know how he feels because he's telling the story and from his side, it's like he wants us to know the story and everyone else involved more than who he is.

Like, damn, Izuku Midoriya must mean nothing to some of you at all!

IT SNOWING KACCHAN!!!

Snowflakes danced lazily down from the sky, covering the streets and buildings of Musutafu in a soft white blanket. It was a rare snow day, a day when even heroes-in-training deserved a break from their rigorous schedules. Bakugo, Izuku, and Y/n found themselves outside, embracing the winter wonderland that had enveloped their city.

Bakugo, with his explosive personality, couldn't resist the urge to start a snowball fight. He scooped up a handful of snow and packed it tightly, his competitive spirit burning bright. Izuku chuckled, watching his friend with amusement. Y/n grinned, ready for the challenge.

"Alright, you two! Let's see what you've got!" Bakugo called out, his voice echoing through the quiet streets.

Izuku formed a snowball with practiced precision, his green eyes sparkling with excitement. Y/n followed suit, crafting their own ammunition for the impending battle. The three of them took cover behind snow-covered benches and trees, laughter filling the crisp air.

You and Izuku build a small wall and begin to whisper a plan. “I CAN HEAR Y’ALL! I WILL DESTROY YOU!!!” Bakugo yelled, stomping through the snow, away from his base. Once he was far enough from his base you lifted Izuku while he used his quirk to get higher and throw a bigger than average snowball at his face. Bakugo falls back as you laugh out loud. Izuku let out a small giggle. “You extras!!! I’ll-” He was interrupted from shivering. 

“Yeah. We should head inside.” Izuku says attempting to help Bakugo up but was pushed away. Bakugo was visually cold. “HOT COCOA!!!!” You yell running inside. 

Bakugo was wrapped in a blanket next to the fire. “Someone’s cozy. Don’t mind me.” Izuku says sitting beside him. He grunts. Izuku smiles and kisses his cheek. Bakugo shows a little bit of pink on his face. When he points it out, Bakugo scoots away. “Aw, don’t be that way, Kacchan.” He whines. “Hot cocoa is ready!” You exclaim with the cups of cocoa (Don’t ask how) in hand. You hand two of them to them and the last one for yourself. You sit in Izuku’s lap and enjoy your cocoa. 

“Thanks for the cocoa, Y/n.” Izuku thanks as Bakugo lets out unintelligible noises that you know as him thanking you. “You're welcome.” You say happily with a rim of chocolate on your mouth. Bakugo pulls out a hand and wipes it, licks it off his finger. You turn red.

“Why so red.” He laughs. “I guess someone’s mind is in the gutter.” You stick your tongue out at him looking away. “Come on, angel.” He teases. “That’s why they like me better.” Izuku remarks. “Don’t you, doll?” “Don’t let that idiot deku tell you wrong! You like  me better!” You giggle at the childish behavior  Bakugo looks at Izuku with a mischievous smirk. “Oh, is that so?” He winks at you. You both burst out laughing.

“I love you both equally.” You answer, sipping your cocoa. Bakugo looks at Izuku with a mischievous smirk. “Oh, is that so?” He winks at you. You both burst out laughing.
