The moment when Blade of the Immortal REALLY got my attention: this.

When Rin goes to seek out Araya on her own and steps in when she sees Renzo being threatened by a pissy samurai.

So far, she knows about Renzo that 1) he is kind of a brat and 2) he's her mother's rapist's son.

We know by now that Rin is really a compassionate person, and the first seeds of conflict with her own desire for revenge have already been sown in the last volume, in her conversation with Makie.

But here is the point where she starts getting much more focus, and being much more proactive about things. With no Manji around to do some threatening or murders, Rin nonetheless takes it upon herself to intervene when she sees an injustice happening.

This also comes on the heels of her first little meet-cute run-in with Anotsu Kagehisa in the woods, so that is forefront on her mind.

She, too, is upset with Samurai Today, but ironically for reasons that seem, in this moment, to resemble Magatsu's more than Anotsu's. It's the same situation -- a samurai threatening a child from a lower social class for the pettiest of reasons.

Except Rin decides to actually use her own samurai upbringing to come to Renzo's aid.

Like. I'm pretty sure that in the Japanese she breaks out the full keigo, just going full Little Miss Sword School.

What happens, of course, is that the samurai ends up laughing in Rin's face when she tells him whose house she hails from, since her father was killed by a rival. The samurai then calls her "worse than a towngirl", a "tramp". Which is interesting, since this also suggests that Rin has, in fact, lost her status in society. As a lone girl with no living male relatives, she has no power, no matter her origins.

And so, she ends up letting herself be humiliated -- and creeped on -- in order to defuse the situation. It works, both of the kids get away without a scratch on them.

This will quickly go sour, of course, but still -- this just does so much to really cement Rin's character as someone who, up until this point, has been fairly passive. (Also probably the beginning of Samura going "okay, we gotta separate her from Manji and let her do her own thing sometimes" lmao)

It also cements her as someone who is able to work with what's in her toolbox to achieve a goal, in situations when most other characters in the series would probably simply draw their swords lolol.

So, I always thought that Joker should have got a FeMC equivilant with Royal. And when Violet was revealed, I thought it was her. Now, I am not a big fan of her in Royal so I am using her as the 'face' for Female Joker. Partially because there is more fanart of her so more options

Joker is the leader of the Phantom Thieves. Arrested for a crime she didn't commit, she and her fellow thieves use the Metaverse to combat the manipulations of those who distort the world and change peoples hearts. Joker is a bit self conscious, but hides it behind her confident smirk and what could only be described unironically as 'swag'

Panther/Ann Takamaki

Panther is a model. Having been abused by her gym coach, Ann slowly grew into herself again after an incident with her best friend. Planning on becoming an actress the sex confident blonde is ready to face the world

Haru Okumara, Noir, is the same age as Makoto. Big into gardening, she is the heir (slash is the CEO) of Okumara Foods after her father died. While having a sadistic side in combat, she is the 'team mother' and the sweetest thing around

Akari works as a negotiator. Arriving for business deals, hostage negotiations, anything. Wearing a.... Modified version of her old outfit to add intimidation/to throw off the opposition, she has a near 100% rate of success in scoring her client the best result. The reason it's not 100% is because she will never screw over those being victimised. If she's hired to make a negotiation against a weaker party, she will do all in her power to make it better for them.
