welcome to ghost mod's thought experiment, the m/f ship bracket bonus round where every single m/f ship from the original round is pit against reylo of the 97/3 #shreksweep infamy.
why, you ask? mostly cuz of this.
they're going from lowest to highest per the original rankings, starting off with our newcomers adam/eve. 9 polls per day will roll out on queue throughout the est evening from may 12th-18th! after polls are closed one week later, i will post the final rankings of who swept the hardest (or failed to sweep...)
all polls can be found under the #bonus round tag, and this masterpost also contains links to each specific poll. there is also a spreadsheet with current bonus round standings and stats from the original bracket if you like numbers. :)

Brat Tamer (2)
Read Chapter 1
Kagome taps her fingers on the table as she waits for Satoru. He's late. Other sorcerers have made comments before about how Satoru is always late. Something about how he slacks off during missions or he has too many missions or maybe it's that he doesn't care, and this is his way of asserting dominance.
Frankly, she thinks it's bullshit.
Missions or no missions. When she tells him a time to meet her, she expects him to come promptly. Kagome glances at her hand and pauses. What is she doing? Waiting? She stands and pushes the chair in. The cafe is a small shop, nestled between a bookstore and an express sushi spot. It's not far from Jujutsu High, which is why she chose it, but perhaps taking Satoru's feelings into consideration was giving him too much thought.
She walks out of the cafe without a glance back. Sure, she could have stayed put and ordered what she wanted, but then that would be giving Satoru the impression she is willing to wait on him. Sesshomaru has been rubbing off on her these days. She should go see him. It has been a while.
"Kagome!"
She stops and turns to the side. "You're late." She keeps her voice cool and even.
"I know that, but look. I got you something." Satoru flashes her a smile as he holds out the bag. "Took a little longer than expected, but I think you'll like it." He must have had a mission first thing since he's dressed in his work uniform, but he's also wearing shades instead of his white bandages.
Kagome eyes the bag suspiciously. She likes gifts. Who doesn't? But Satoru's attitude is throwing her off. He is being agreeable. Too agreeable, which means this gift of his reeks with mischief. She takes the bag because even if he is up to no good, then punishing him is half the fun. She brushes the wrapping paper to the side and stares at the box.
"You like it?"
"There seems to be some sort of miscommunication here," Kagome says, snapping her attention back to him. "Unless you got this for yourself." She cocks her head to the side while Satoru opens his mouth and closes it repeatedly. Was he expecting her to be flustered by a ball gag? "And frankly, this is no excuse for you being late. It doesn't take that long to pick one out." She holds the bag out and pushes it into his hand.
"Wait! Where are you going?"
"Away from you."
He hurries over to her side and leans his body to the side, blocking her line of sight. "I thought we had plans today."
While she is annoyed by his behavior, they need to discuss the nature of their relationship. "I'm headed to the shrine. You can help me while we talk."
"Awww, but what about breakfast?" He straightens himself up. "I can't even get something to eat?"
"You smell sweet. How many pancakes did you have before you came to meet me?" She leads them to the shrine, which is not close to the cafe, but she enjoys the walk, nonetheless. Huh. He has no answer to that? Satoru is usually chatting nonstop. "My grandfather is out of town for the month, so I'm taking care of the shrine while he is out."
"How did you know?"
"Know what?"
"That it was pancakes. Is your nose that good?" He says it jokingly, but there is a hint of seriousness in his tone. He stuffs his hands in his pockets and looks around the shrine. "There's something different about this one. Been to a couple of shrines, but this one feels more alive."
"I make a lot of pancakes, so I'm sensitive to the smell of syrup." Kagome sidesteps his other comments. No need getting into that right now when she isn't sure how far Satoru is willing to go. She leads them to the shed with the tools and not the one where Gramps likes to keep his collectibles. "The grounds need sweeping."
Satoru stares at the broom. It's hard to see what he is thinking with those shades on, but she can wager a guess it is nothing pleasant. She wrinkles her nose. This shed smells of cleaning products, but at least it doesn't smell of dust and whatever else the other shed does.
"Do you need help?"
He grips the handle and smiles. "Never swept before, but I got it. Can't be that difficult." He says that and yet he makes no effort to get a move on it. "You asked if I wanted to be yours. Does that make you mine?"
She swallows down the no and taps a finger on her lips. "I got ahead of myself," she admits. Seeing Satoru on his knees gave her so much pleasure she nearly fucked him right then and there. "To be in a relationship with me means to partake in the BDSM lifestyle. I do not share and I expect my toys to behave. It's not for everyone and you are free to walk away anytime."
The broom handle splitters. "Toys?"
Did she read him wrong? Kagome frowns. "We can forget this conversation happened."
The broom completely breaks. Satoru snatches his shades off. "That's fucking bullshit," he hisses. "You tell me I can't jerk off and I can't be with anyone else and here you are with other men."
Oh, he's just jealous.
"I'm not attached to anyone. I was speaking in general." She'll need to get another broom now. What a pain. "And I wouldn't entertain another if we're together. That exclusivity goes both ways." Truthfully, she's never been with a brat before. Hojo was a complete sub and loved to be praised and InuYasha was far too reluctant to give up control that the experience was lackluster.
"Oh..." He bites his lip and glances at the broken broom on the floor of the shed. "So, when you say you expect me to behave, are you wanting a sub?"
Kagome nods. "I actually have a checklist for you to fill out, so I know what your boundaries are." She pats her purse. It could be the light, but she swears Satoru's cheeks redden. "But I need help around the shrine first. We can go over that once you're done." She grabs another broom, the only one left, and hands it to him. "Try not to break this one. I'll be in the house working on some souvenirs for the shop."
She's running away. It's easier to talk a big game through text and it would hurt her pride just a little if Satoru turns her down, so she busies herself with creating more protection talismans. It's not much, but this is one way for her to help others without having to physically be there.
This isn't working. She groans and looks at the stack of talismans on the table. Her body is strung as tight as a bow. Sweeping the grounds takes some time, but it doesn't take that long. Maybe he is having second thoughts? She stands and pulls out the paper from her purse, placing it on the table.
The front door opens. Kagome runs her fingers through her hair and mentally shakes off the bundles of anxiety, trying to take root on her shoulders. "All done?"
"Yeah, I'm done," he scoffs as he rubs the back of his head. There's something about that snarky tone that sets her off.
"Yes, Kagome-sama," she snaps. "When we are alone, you will refer to me as Kagome-sama. Do you understand?"
Satoru drops his hand. "Yes, Kagome-sama." He wets his lips and then looks over at the table. "Do you want me to fill that out now?"
"In a moment." She stalks forward and runs a finger down his chest. He's a lot bigger than he looks. The uniform slims him, a shame. "Have you been good?" She slides her hand down and over his groin. "When you are with me, I will use you however I see fit. You are not Satoru, and you are not the strongest when you are with me. We are not coworkers or even acquaintances. I will use you however I want, and should you deserve it, I will punish you. It will hurt, but if you earn it, I will reward you and make sure you enjoy it." Kagome watches him and waits.
"Yes, Kagome-sama." His eyes slide shut for a moment as his chest rises. "I've been good," he breathes.
She strokes him through his pants, watching as he tries to restrain himself. They haven't gone over boundaries yet, so she won't push him too far. Kagome unbuckles his belt and pushes his pants down just enough to free his cock.
Oh. She expected him to be big, but he is far larger than she thought. Kagome keeps her eyes on him as she sinks down to her knees. "This is your reward," she tells him. "Hands to yourself."
"Sorry." He clenches his fists at his sides and stares down at her. Something about the awe reflecting at her makes her want to drag this out longer. Kagome leans forward and wraps her lips around him. She gets why he walks around like he does. Big dick energy, as Ayumi would say. "Fuck, Kagome... Kagome-sama," he corrects himself.
Kagome sucks as she strokes him, twisting her hand as she strokes upward. It's not enough. She wants him to lose control. Lose some of that haughtiness. Kagome licks the underside of his cock, allowing him to rest pressed against her face as her hand circles the head. She smirks as her energy flickers across him like a sparkler.
"Shit!" Satoru thrusts his hips. Kagome gags and then glares at him. Did she tell him he could move? "Shit, Kagome-sama," Satoru coos. "I'm gonna come. You're too good—" his voice breaks off into a strangled cry as she pulls away and tugs harshly on his balls.
"I didn't give you permission to come." Kagome flashes him a smile and then licks the slit. He's salty, but the taste isn't too bitter. She makes a mental note to have him eat more fruit. She licks up the length of his cock, not enough to bring him to completion, but more than enough to tease him. He still thinks he's the one in charge here.
Believes himself to be humoring her. She can see it in the way he bites his bottom lip. The way his eyes are blown. The harshness of his puffs of breath.
"S-sorry," he stammers out. His hands tug on his strands of hair while his legs shake. Kagome hums as she opens her mouth and takes him once more. Her eyes flutter. The heaviness of him on her tongue is exquisite. "Is this my reward every time?"
She hums and stares up at him. She palms his balls, rolling them in her hand.
"Fuck yeah," Satoru groans, throwing his head back.
Kagome rolls her eyes. He still thinks she's going to let him come that easily. She grips his balls and tugs right as his cock slides out of her mouth.
"Oh, come on," he cries out, dropping his hands as he stares down at her. Kagome smiles. It's evil, and it fills her with so much glee. "Kagome. I mean, Kagome-sama, please don't stop," Satoru begs. His hips shake as he thrusts forward.
She should punish him for that, but she sucks harder instead. His cock is wet from her saliva and her hand is slick. When his thrusts become more erratic, Kagome waits until the last second and pulls away.
Satoru stares at her with horror. "Kagome-sama, please. No, I was just about to..." he trails off and then groans as Kagome tucks him back into his boxers and fixes his pants. "I didn't come."
Kagome darts her tongue across her lips and places a hand on his chest. "I never said coming was your reward. You have to earn it." Her eyes dart to his groin and then back to his eyes. "You come when I say you can. If I find that you have disobeyed me, then I will place a cage on you, got it?"
"I... yes, Kagome-sama." Satoru lowers his eyes. His face is flushed.
"Some disciple is good for you." Kagome turns and walks over to the table. She holds up the paper. "You can fill this out now."

A/N: Happy Sunday! I hope you had a great weekend and wishing you a great week ahead. Hopefully, this chapter wasn't too bad. Definitely coming down with something so my sense of judgment is not so good right now lol.
"Can Gojo survive cock warming?" - Right now? No lol. He's could barely handle this.
"Bang Bus in Japan." - I didn't know about this. Now I want to look it up lol.
"They need props." - That ball gag will be used on him, but first Kagome needs to know what his boundaries are. All of this is built on trust.
Take care of yourselves! Get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. I'm going to take it easy this week, though I hope to update again on Sunday.

The Forbidden Outfit
Fandom: Inuyasha
Pairing: Inukag
Inukag week 2024: Day 3 Bickering
Rating: T
Belated Inukag week submission. I haven’t written anything in forever but I was reading some of the entry’s and seeing the prompt was inspired. @inukag-week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thud
The dull sound of the impact from Sango’s leg connecting with her forearms that were locked in a defensive block position may have been quiet, but the force behind it wasn’t. The strength behind the kick forced Kagome’s right foot to fall back slightly in order to brace herself and keep her balance. This may only be a sparring match, but it certainly didn’t mean the demon slayer was going easy on her. Kagome brought her foot forward to regain her stance, remembering to keep more of her weight on the balls of her feet to allow for quick movements. The priestess barely had a chance to recover before Sango came at her again, this time aiming calculated punches towards her midsection.
Kagome had seen her friend’s eyes shift lower to her intended target and was able to side step away from the attack. Now slightly beside her, the black haired woman was able to counter attack with jab of her own. Sango grunted at the blow to her ribs and darted back, opening space between them. Her confidence rising at getting a hit in on the highly trained slayer, Kagome took a risk and dashed forward. She planted one foot on the ground to anchor herself in preparation to aim a high kick when suddenly the air rushed out of her lungs and she found herself staring up at the clouds lazily floating across the light blue sky.
Kagome coughed before sucking in a breath after having the wind knocked out of her. It took her a moment to process what had happened since it was so fast. Sango had taken the opportunity to sweep out her legs from underneath her when she had shifted her balance. The brunette’s reflexes were cat like and lightening quick, a deadly combination. Soon enough, an outstretched hand obscured her vision of the sky. Kagome lifted her arm and took a hold of Sango’s hand, allowing her friend to help her to her feet. Her friend wore an apologetic look on her face as she watched the priestess dust herself off.
“That was much better, Kagome! You were able to anticipate my next attacks better by watching my body language,” the demon slayer praised genuinely, a smile lighting up her face. Her cheeks were flushed a beautiful shade of rosy pink and her chocolate colored bangs were sticking to her forehead from sweat. It was midsummer and the heat had been rough for everyone this season. That was why Sango had suggested that they train earlier in the morning before the heat became unbearable.
“You’re just saying that,” Kagome laughed breathlessly and walked over to where her small jug of water was. She took a few long sips of the wonderfully delicious cold water before speaking again. “I hardly lasted more than a minute before landing flat on my back.”
Sango merely chuckled and brushed off her friends words. “The time is irrelevant. I told you that today the focus was recognizing your opponents body language and cues they give off that can help you figure out what their next move is and you did that.” The look she gave her was one that told her to give herself some credit.
Deciding to take the compliment, Kagome aimed a small smile at the young mother and sat on one of the old moss covered logs nearby. She really appreciated Sango taking the time to help her train when she already had three children to care for. Although, she likely appreciated the time away from the young ones and leaving them in Miroku’s care so she could have a break. While adorable, they were a handful especially the twins who were always looking for trouble.
Her thoughts flitted from Sango’s kids to her own daughter. Kagome wondered how she was behaving for Inuyasha, but frankly she behaved better for him than she did for her. That little girl had herself wrapped around Inuyasha’s finger, but the toddler was just as enamored by her father in return. Inuyasha and Hikari were more alike than she could have ever anticipated from inheriting his deep, golden eye color to copying his mannerisms. She may have the same black hair as her mother, but the rest was Inuyasha. Hikari was only two, but it was already showing more and more as her personality developed the older she got. The baby would let out the most adorable squeals of excitement whenever she watched Inuyasha train with Tensaiga, as if adding in her own battle cries.
Hikari was truly a blessing and she couldn’t be more thankful, however she was the reason behind these sparring matches. After giving birth nearly two years ago, Kagome didn’t feel the same in her body. She didn’t have the same stamina or speed she used to before she had the baby. Not to mention, spending her days raising Hikari and there being less demon attacks since Naraku’s defeat led the priestess to have taken a backseat in fighting. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when Inuyasha was going on a job to slay some demons wrecking havoc on a village a few towns south of them did she realize it. Miroku wasn’t able to come with because the twins had come down with a cold and he didn’t want to leave Sango alone to care for them by herself. Kagome had offered to go with him instead and her husband had hesitated and looked less than thrilled with the idea.
“You ready to go again?” Sango called from the center of their makeshift training ground, one of her arms behind her head as she stretched her muscles. “You might want to put your hair up it’s getting hotter out here.”
“Yeah, good idea,” Kagome agreed and dug through her small pouch of belongings to find a ribbon to hold her hair up in a high pony tail similar to Sango’s. That wasn’t the only thing making them look more alike today. Her long robed Miko garments made doing this kind of training difficult and impeded her movement. Kagome had gotten frustrated by the amount of times she almost tripped on the hem of her pants or smacked herself in the face with her sleeves. Sango wasn’t just teaching her how to fight, she also was doing strength training and other demon slayer training exercises to help Kagome get stronger.
That was why today she had abandoned her normal robes and sported one of Sango’s old demon slayer outfits. The black tight fitting material wasn’t anything she was used to wearing, and she was surprised to find it light and breathable and not constricting like she assumed it would be. With this on, it made going through the exercises much easier. Also, the shielding on parts of her body like her elbows, shoulders and knees made any impact with the ground less painful. Sango told her that it would make learning the steps easier and that way when she had a better handle on it they could transition back to her normal red and white priestess robes she wore everyday since realistically, that is what she would be wearing during a fight. Once her hair was up, Kagome joined her friend to continue on with the rest of their lesson.
After another half hour of grueling sparring, the two women were sweaty and breathless with proud smiles on their faces. Kagome was elated to have managed to get in a few hits on Sango, a few even managing to surprise the expert fighter.
It had been an hour and just like every other time before this, the black haired woman spotted Inuyasha down the road heading her way, their daughter balanced in his one arm while the other rested loosely on the handle of his sword. He always arrived right on the dot to walk her back home without fail. She had told him countless times that he didn’t have to go out of his way to do so, but he insisted.
“Thanks again for today, Sango. I’ll wash this tonight and give it back to you tomorrow,” Kagome promised as she picked up her small bag she carried with her. Unlike the modern era, she didn’t need to carry around a lot here in the feudal era. There were no cell phones, school IDs, wallets or anything of the sort. Now, her small pouch just held some extra coins in case she needed some money, a few common herbs, and any memorabilia she liked to travel with.
Sango sent a smile her way. “Don’t bother giving it back to me. You can use it for next time. That’s an old one anyways I couldn’t tell you the last time I wore it,” she waved her hand in dismissal.
“Oi, Kagome! You just about finished?” The hanyou’s loud voice interrupted them as he and Hikari approached. “If you guys need more time I-“ Inuyasha suddenly stopped speaking, causing Kagome to turn towards him as she picked up her water to see what made him stop talking. A dark brow rose as she looked at him questioningly. The look on his face was not one she recognized, and she’d memorized pretty much all of them by now.
“We finished,” Kagome said when he didn’t start speaking again and simply stared at her, lips pressed into a thin line. “Were you going to say something?” She prodded.
Inuyasha continued staring her down, his thick, dark brows narrowing at her and he almost looked…annoyed? She hadn’t the faintest idea why he would be. He had been in a fine mood when she left. Hikari on the other hand was clinging to her father’s haori contently and trying to shove his subjugation beads into her mouth. She was going to ask him what was wrong when he beat her to speaking.
“What the hell are you wearing?” He asked flatly. Definitely annoyance.
“One of Sango’s old demon slayer outfits. She let me borrow it so it was easier to train since my robes were making it harder,” Kagome explained, watching him stare her down like a hawk. Crossing her arms over her chest she met his stare back evenly.
His eye flickered towards her chest where she had crossed her arms, his nostrils flaring slightly. “Your normal robes are just fine,” he grunted, shifting Hikari to his other arm more comfortably.
“Sure, my robes are fine but these are easier to spar in,” Kagome reiterated, not liking his tone.
“I’m going to go check on the kids now. Bye you two,” Sango quickly cut in with her departing words as she sensed the tension grow by tenfold from the couple. Now that they were married, Inuyasha and Kagome didn’t bicker nearly as much as they did when they were traveling on their journey to defeat Naraku, but they still had their moments and it was best for any bystanders to leave them to it to avoid being hit in the crossfire.
The moment Sango had slipped away and was out of earshot, Inuyasha looked at Kagome seriously and said, “I don’t like you wearing that,” in a flat voice.
Her temper may be more subdued than it was as a teenager, but Inuyasha still had the wonderful ability to be able to push all the right buttons to make her mad. What did he mean he didn’t like her wearing that? Did he think she didn’t look cute enough in this compared to her more reserved priestess garments? Well, Kagome was no modern miko and she would wear whatever the hell she wanted to! “You don’t get to tell me what I can or can’t wear,” she growled. The only thing saving him from her sending his face flying into the ground with a command was their daughter in his arms.
“I never said that,” Inuyasha grunted in retort, unable to help himself but to argue back.
“You just did.”
His jaw clenched. “I said I don’t want you wearing that specifically. I never said anything about any other clothing.”
“You’re unbelievable,” Kagome snapped back and marched up to him, promptly collecting Hikari from him. She took a deep breath to calm herself as she reminded herself to keep her cool since Hikari was there and didn’t need to be upset by them arguing.
“Kagome,” the white haired half demon started, but his wife would have none of it. She promptly spun on her heel and stormed off in the direction of their home. His golden eyes followed her retreating form for only a few seconds before running after her. “Kagome, you know that’s not what I meant,” he growled, trying to get her attention as she obviously tried to ignore him. “You can wear whatever you want. If you don’t want to wear the priestess robes you don’t have to. No one is forcing you to,” he tried.
His wife simply remained silent as she weaved through the dirt road through the village, passing by a small group of men who seemed were trying to negotiate a trade of some sort. “Oh, so I have your permission? Wow, thanks,” she drawled sarcastically, her eyes focused on the road ahead. Hikari oblivious to her parents argument simply babbled happily, her little black dog ears swiveling at all the different sounds from the town.
Inuyasha let out a strangled groan. “Kagome, just listen to me.”
“I think I’ve heard enough,” the young mother quipped without glancing back at him, picking up her pace slightly to put distance between them.
“If you would just let me explain-“
“Explain what? That you don’t find me attractive in these clothes? That they look too masculine? Well, too bad! I’m wearing them when I train and that’s that,” Kagome snapped, whipping her head over her shoulder to cast him a stormy glare. Inuyasha shrank away from her daggered glare slightly, but recovered quickly. He opened his mouth to defend himself but she didn’t want to hear any of it. “I’ll wear whatever I like, regardless if you think it makes me less desirable to you,” she faced forward once again, her fingers rubbing up and down Hikari’s back to help keep the baby calm despite their argument. “You may be my husband, but that doesn’t give you the right to-“ she stopped speaking abruptly as she felt fabric over shoulders.
Craning her neck around, Kagome stopped walking as she realized he had draped his fire rat over her shoulders to cover her shoulders and back, leaving him standing in his cream colored kosode. Furrowing her brows in confusion, she opened her mouth to berate him for this, but the look on his face brought her to pause.
“You never let me finish,” Inuyasha grumbled, and it was then that she noticed a light pink dusting his cheeks. “I meant I don’t like you wearing it cuz I don’t want other men to see you in it,” he explained himself finally, avoiding her gaze.
Kagome blinked, her anger dissolving into confusion. “Why don’t you want other people to see me in this?”
The hanyou groaned, rubbing his hand down his face. “Because I don’t like it when other men stare at you,” he managed to get out. Words never came easily to him, or eloquently.
“What are you talking about? No one is staring at me.”
“Not anymore,” he jutted his chin towards his robe that covered her. “That whole group of men we just passed couldn’t keep their filthy eyes off of you.” His fingers flexed at his side, as if the mere memory made his body itch for a fight.
The dark haired woman stared at him, trying to follow his jumbled thought process. It was then that she realized his gaze kept dropping to the curves of her hips and chest that were more pronounced in the tight fitting clothes. Her mouth shaped a small “oh” as the puzzle pieces clicked together. “You’re jealous,” she stated, realizing that it wasn’t that he didn’t like how she looked in the clothes, but rather that it was more revealing than her normal outfit and he didn’t appreciate other men greedily eyeing his wife.
“I ain’t jealous!” The hanyou retorted, his blush deepening as he struggled to find the words. At least she didn’t seem ready to ‘sit’ him anymore. “I just don’t want other men looking at you like that. It pisses me off,” he huffed, moving to shove his hands into his sleeves but remembering he wasn’t wearing his fire rat and settled for crossing his arms haughtily instead.
“So it’s not that you don’t like how I look in this?” Kagome affirmed, shifting her weight to her other leg as her daughter wiggled slightly in her arms.
“I like it too much, that’s the problem!” Inuyasha realized what he said out loud and blushed further in embarrassment, turning his nose away from her to stubbornly glare at the trees to his right where the forest began.
Kagome felt her own cheeks heat up from his statement. He didn’t like that others could see her figure in this uniform and were likely staring at her hips and thighs that were now on display. “Oh…” was all she managed to say, trying to process everything. Shoving aside the feelings of her heart racing, the miko began to walk again, knowing he would follow. They continued in silence down the path to their home that was just outside the village. By it being more secluded it allowed for a bit more privacy. The only sound for the next few minutes was the soft taps of their footsteps on the ground and the occasional baby noise from their daughter.
Once they were out of the village completely, Kagome spoke up. “So you’re okay if I wear this just around you then?” She asked. He cast a wary glance at her, wondering if this was a trick question.
“Well yeah,” he answered as if it were obvious. “It looks good on you, that’s the problem. It’s hard for me to keep my hands off of you when you’re wearing that.”
He said it so matter of factually she almost choked. She felt her face heat up and wondered if the color matched his robes she wore. Her teeth caught on her lower lip, glancing over at him. Despite being married and having a child together he still managed to fluster her.
Kagome cleared her throat. “Well, Sango said I don’t have to return this to her anytime soon,” she told him, feigning casualty and ignoring her racing heart.
Inuyasha followed her thought process with this, and his expression morphed into a cocky grin. “Oh?”
“I don’t see why I can’t wear it for you at home every once in a while,” the black haired woman feigned innocence, blinking her doe brown eyes at him.
“Keh, it won’t last long on you when you’re with me,” the half demon grinned slyly and snaked his arm around her waist underneath his robe. His hand rested on her hip as he pulled her closer to his side as they continued walking home, their small hut just around the bend.
The priestess matched his grin. If it wasn’t for Hikari she would have said screw it and have him race her home the rest of the way to get started. However, the duty of being parents would force them to wait until later tonight whenever their daughter went to bed. “I’ll hold you to that,” she purred, pressing closer against him. As much as she didn’t want to ruin the moment that they had mended, Kagome still had to address something. “It really is easier for me to learn what Sango’s teaching me with this on. Once I get the moves down she’s teaching me I’ll switch back to my priestess robes. That was the plan all along,” she explained once again to him.
Inuyasha slid his eyes over to her, seeming to think over his next words. At least he got better at that over the years instead of blurting out the first thing that came to his mind. “Fine, but I wanna be around when you’re training with Sango then,” he said in compromise. “That way I can pummel anyone who tries to creep on you.”
Kagome let out a light laugh as they entered their home. “I suppose that’s fair.” Hikari had been lulled to sleep by the swaying of her walk so she laid the toddler down in her bedding. Straightening, she waltzed over to her husband, letting her hips sway more than normal with the movement and watched as his eyes trained on her. “You know, I could wear this when we spar too,” she smiled. Sango wasn’t the only one who had been helping her get back into fighting shape. Inuyasha had also been working with her at her request and they both enjoyed sparring with one another when Hikari was napping.
Inuyasha’s eyes twinkled in mischief. “I guess it will be a training session for me too.”
“Training in what?”
Inuyasha fully grinned, his fangs on full display. “Restraint,” he said and leaned down to kiss her firmly on the lips. She immediately melded into him, her hands moving to grip his robes.
They kissed like that for a while, Inuyasha switching from kissing her lips to moving down towards her neck. Before things could get more heated, soft cries could be heard from the bedding as Hikari woke up from her all too short nap. Inuyasha pulled away from her slightly with a sigh, giving her neck one last playful nip before releasing his wife and allowing her to tend to their little girl. As Kagome scooped up Hikari to soothe her she caught Inuyasha watching her with a smile and all she could think was that she couldn’t wait for their next sparing match.
OOOH THE WAY THESE TWO HAVE CONSUMED ME ONCE MOREEEE.
She stops suddenly, transfixed by the look upon his face.
It isn’t one he’s worn before- not that she can recall at least- so soft and strange yet comforting all the same. Golden eyes sweep across her features, as if he’s drinking her in, as if he’s only ever seeing her for the first time. “You’re bleeding,” he utters, softer, slower, taking a tentative step towards where she stands just out of his reach.
Oh… That.
“It’s not so bad,” she assures him, remembering the feeling of Naraku’s tentacles slicing through her upper arm, the pain sharp and steady. Even now it aches, faintly, but it aches all the same. Her white blouse is stained crimson with the flow of it, almost done now she thinks, though when she puts a hand to the wound, her palm comes away bloody. “I’m fine, really,” she continues, looking back to him, surprised to see his golden eyes staring at her as they do.
I didn’t protect her, he’s thinking, over and over again, replaying the scene in his head, thinking how if he’d been even just a second later…. They might not be having this conversation. Just when did he care so much about her, anyway? He thinks it must have been that day so long ago now, that night she shed those very first tears for him. Or perhaps that day she first bled for him, when he had nearly died fighting Sesshomaru. Or it could have been any of the other countless moments they’ve shared during their time together- fights, with others, with each other… Her smile lighting up her face as she peeks out over the well, seeing him standing there, already waiting on her return… The soft touch of her hand to his arm, forcing him to look her way when he doesn’t want to… Or when she cries out his name, voice threaded with fear, concern always etched into her beautiful blue eyes.
When had he begun to care… When hadn’t he cared, really?
“Inuyasha…” Her soft vocals draw him back, reminding him of the moment they stand within, not those left behind. He reaches for her then, pushing back her torn sleeve, revealing to him the wound she suffered at the hands of Naraku and his own carelessness. It is as she says, not life threatening, but he tears a strip away from his robe all the same.
She lets out a surprised little gasp, opening her mouth to protest his actions, but he’s shaking his head, speaking before she has the chance. “Keh, you weak humans get infections even in a scrape,” he intends to speak sharply, but there’s a gentleness to his voice she’s never experienced before. “The others would have my head if something happened to you.” He adds, thinking of the friends they’ve been separated from, unable to think about the horrified looks they would wear if he came back to them with a badly injured Kagome, or worse, without her at all.
When he’s finished wrapping the red fabric around her wound, he ties it off, shooting her an apologetic sort of glance when she flinches, though a smile appears to replace it within mere seconds. “Thanks…” She murmurs softly, eyes shining, her heart hammering so hard in her chest surely he must hear it (he does and his matches hers pace for pace).
He shrugs it off as if he’s done nothing at all, making her smile again as she reaches up a hand to tuck her hair behind an ear. “We should get back,” he says next, uncomfortable now, back to his old self again. “Come on then,” he says, gesturing for her to climb into her usual place on his back, her weight warm against his skin.
As he begins to run, he can’t help but to think how perfectly she fits against him, how wonderfully warm she is, how her sweet scent envelops him when she’s pressed so close against him. In a position such as this one, Inuyasha knows how she trusts him, for she sinks into him, head sometimes finding its place in the crook of his shoulder, sometimes her arms winding around his torso. Just as she was doing now.
He finds he likes that best.
Inu-Mothership Spotlight Saturday Update: July 27, 2024: KogKag!
Hi everyone! We here at @inu-mothership are back with a new round of fic recs! Our server has just celebrated its third anniversary this week, and to honor that, we'll be revisiting some of the ships that we featured very early on in our Spotlight Saturday days. This week, we're going back to our very first fic rec list, which was KogKag!
This week, we're back with 15 new fics, all published after our last KogKag list, which was a summary of the 2022 KogKag Secret Admirer event! Stories are listed below the cut in alphabetical order, according to title, with rating and status (ongoing or complete) also noted. We hope you find some new KogKag gems in this list!
The Beauty of Storms (G; complete) by abovetheruins (Ao3)
Outside, thunder rumbled. A flash of lightning illuminated the sky, throwing the tree trunks beyond the cave into sharp relief. Kagome’s breath caught at the brilliant display, though she was distracted from the storm by the faintest whisper of footsteps beyond the cave. Within her next heartbeat, the wall of water bearing down upon the entrance parted as a shadowed figure pushed their way through.
Caught in the middle of a rainstorm, the Inu gang take refuge with the wolf clan. Kouga and Kagome share a moment.
Chasing Fate (M; complete) by @fawn-eyed-girl
Yōkai exterminators Kagome and Miroku are called to investigate the mysterious possessions and murders that have been happening on the late night Musashi train line. When confronted with the culprit, Kagome is surprised to see not one, but two faces from her past…
The one who broke her heart. And the one whose heart she broke.
Can she put the past aside to solve this case? And perhaps also reunite with the ookami who still owns her heart, even after she let him go?
Cultural Variances (T; complete) by @arisukingdom
Kouga has been courting Kagome for years now, but she is clueless. One day, he had the perfect excuse to complete all the courting traditions he knows of but they aren't enough. What does she need?
Duty Bound (E; ongoing) by Nora_Wall (Ao3)
It's been several years since the defeat of Naraku and supposed destruction of the Sacred Jewel. Stuck in the past, Kagome has been trying to adjust to the tedious life of a village miko while harboring a dangerous secret. With the emergence of a deadly illness sweeping through Edo, Kagome is tasked with helping Kouga save his pack. The only problem is that Kouga is determined to use this opportunity to not only save his tribe, but to convince Kagome to be his. Drawn to the powerful wolf demon, Kagome must learn to walk the fine line between following her heart and staying duty bound to protect those she loves.
Happenstance (T; complete) by @megara09
A chance encounter in a dark park with a stranger who saves her.
When Kagome injures herself, Kouga takes her home. After learning that her injury will prevent her from helping at her family’s shrine, he volunteers to help out.
Add in a creepy stalker and a big secret for some extra flavor!
Howling Heart (E; ongoing) by @mynightshining
Unexpectedly stuck in a storm together after time apart forces Kagome and Koga to address the elephant in the room.
Hungry Like a Wolf (T; complete) by @mynightshining
Koga lived centuries as the Pack's bachelor alpha. It's fine, really. It doesn't bother him anymore. He embraced the lifestyle. Little does he know the Tanabata festival has a surprise in store.
Joys of Music (G; complete) by @classysassy9791
Kouga hated waking up early, until he didn't.
Little Red (NR; complete) by Langus (Ao3)
The autumn air was crisp and the full moon high in the night sky. Its light bathed the forest floor in a cool cerulean glow that cast long shadows into the underbrush. She pulled in a cleansing breath and let it out in a rush.
"Chase me," she breathed and immediately began to run.
An Olympic Rendezvous (E; complete) by NeutrInu (Ao3)/ @neutronstarchild
There is a reason that the Olympic Village supplies so many condoms. Athletes need to find ways to relax and celebrate, right? When Kagome meets an absolutely gorgeous wolf demon from the French team, she decides it’s time to ‘relieve some of that post-competition tension.’ And with this much chemistry, who needs a common language?
Open Invitation (G; complete) by monophobian (Ao3)/ @nikkxb
Kouga didn't know what she was studying or why she was studying or why she was so stressed about it, but he did know he could help. Somehow.
He didn't realize how quickly he adapted to Kagome at his den.
Skip (G; complete) by @commandercrouton
Kouga surprised his wife with a romantic dinner for a special anniversary. Except Kagome doesn’t know.
Slipping Traces (M; ongoing) by @pointyobjects
Kagome arrives back home with an education and a new title in her small town: the governor's daughter. It's her job to make every citizen of Serenity Creek feel entirely at home, including the handsome, aloof new Horsehand.
Summer-time Blues (G; complete) by GoblinOnAHouse (Ao3)/ @brain-rot-hour
Kagome has a lot of thoughts about life with Kouga and the Pack.
And summer.
Zephyr (T; complete) by AshMish111 (Ao3)/ @mrfeenysmustache
For Kagome Higurashi, the winds of change blew fast and hard, leaving her tossed about and her world upside down.
They were best avoided.
But sometimes change comes on the gentle currents of a warm breeze, and before you know it you’ve gone too far down stream to turn back.
She should have known;
She’d always associated Koga with wind.
Chapter 3 is POSTED on Ao3 & FFN
Rating: M
Pairings: Sesshomaru/Kagome, Sango/Miroku
Warnings: Graphic violence
Summary: Mt. Hakurei's barrier was used by many to seal away items of power and demons that were so powerful they couldn't be killed outright. With the barrier down, these demons escape their weakening bonds and set out to continue their rampages through the Feudal Era. Most scatter to the winds, but one seeks out those who inadvertently freed her. After a millennia of being sealed under the mountain she is free, she is starving, and they are full of delicious memories. So vibrant, so filling. She can't wait to suck them out of their heads.
An attack on Kaede's village causes irreparable changes to sweep amongst Inuyasha's pack. When faced with a suddenly deaged Inuyasha, who's last memories are of his mother's death and the villagers chasing him away, Kagome has no choice but to ask Sesshomaru for help. Inuyasha may be roughly a five or six year old child but his enemies are vast and his new age won't stop old enemies.
Hi, do you have some recommendations for the "inukag as cat/dog parents" or maybe one of them as adoptive parents of a stray animal? Thank you so much! 😊😊
Hey @chit-a-to ! We love seeing our dog-boy as a cat-mom (or dog, or horse) so thank you for this ask! We hope you enjoy this list of predominantly -- but not exclusively-- modern AU's from across the ratings spectrum, so please do check individual fics for additional tags.
Dumplin' by MooMiscief (E)
She was officially settled working from home, she owned her own house and the time had come for her to get a puppy. Until a gruff volunteer gave her sass, until said volunteer gave her his number, and until she realized maybe was interested in him for more than dog tips.
Cat Person by @arisukingdom (G)
Inuyasha is a cat person, and every cat person needs to meet his first cat at some point in life. So here it goes a little Inu finding out what a cat is and trying to bring a cat to a dog house.
She also didn't expect to develop a crush on him either.
--
How To Train Your Dog Demon by @anxietyaardvark (M)
Izayoi is tired of Inuyasha's excuses. All he does is work; despite his protests, she knows he's lonely. She decides to get him a companion to get him out of the house, and when she finds a no-nonsense dog trainer with great reviews, ulterior motives take over.
--
The Cat Came Back by @fawn-eyed-girl (T)
When Kagome and Shippō adopt a stray cat from a village, Inuyasha is incensed. Cats (who aren’t Kirara, of course) just cause trouble; don’t they know that?
And then, Kagome goes home to study for an exam, and Inuyasha is left with a cat he doesn’t want, but who has suddenly decided he is the most interesting person in all of Musashi.
--
Must Love Dogs by WakingPriestess (NR)
Taking her dog to the park was a sure fire way to get a dose of serotonin. But the sight of a scary looking dog being lonely and unable to make new friends broke Kagome's heart. Thankfully she had the sweetest pup in the world who was also a little intimidating and also looking for new friends. The owner being drop dead gorgeous was just a bonus.
--
Ramen by @writemydaydreams (T)
A quiet, burning kind of chaos sweeps through Feudal Japan, and it's going to take a lot more than a fairy tale ending to put things back together. They defeated a man who would become the Devil. Can they survive a man who would become a God?
--
You Rescued Me by @keizfanfiction (E)
Maybe it was fate that he decided to take the back way home that night, but whatever the reason, Inuyasha was grateful for arriving just in the nick of time to rescue a waif of a woman who had clearly been through hell. He never would have imagined that she would end up rescuing him, too.
--
Max by KittyKatz (T)
It was business as usual until Kagome's family adopts her father's canine partner. A short 3-chapter blurb about a military working dog joining ranks with the inu-gang. [T - Inuyasha's potty mouth]
“Fallen” Chapter 4 Sneak Peek
During the next couple of days, Kagome observed Inuyasha whenever she was at the store. The half-demon seemed shy and quiet unless he had questions about his tasks, and the Slayer kept her distance if only to avoid being nosy. After getting Mushin’s approval, Inuyasha had removed the pallets from his ‘room’ and moved them to the adjoining one. Her Watcher had kept those to whittle stakes or if they needed to build a pyre.
In this line of work, you never knew when you’d need one.
On the third day, Inuyasha had asked if he could borrow some tools to fashion a nightstand of sorts using one of the pallets. Kagome hadn’t let Mushin reply, opting to answer herself and promising to bring the toolbox from the house the following day.
She elected to ignore her mentor’s curious cocked eyebrow.
After finishing sweeping the shop, Inuyasha sat in the warehouse and proceeded to make his nightstand. Kagome watched the entire process from the corner of her eye while pretending to read the obituaries; whether he noticed her or not, she couldn’t tell.
After finishing, the half-demon picked up the shavings and mopped the floor before heading upstairs.
Kagome waited for Mushin to finish his current sale before approaching him.
“Wasn’t there some spare lamp in the basement? The one Mrs. Penshaw gave us when we moved in?” she casually asked while leafing through the newspaper.
Her Watcher hummed pensively. “You mean that hideous thing that clashed with the decor?” he asked, scrunching up his face in evident distaste.
“It wasn’t that ugly!” she retorted, giving him a look, “You’re too boring. Not everything has to be white or beige or gray!”
Mushin gasped, clearly offended by her words. “I’m sensible, not boring.”
She rolled her eyes, biting her tongue to avoid continuing the argument. “Well? Is that lamp still there or did you throw it away?”
“It’s still there,” he replied, turning back to scribble in his sales book. “Why do you ask?”
Kagome bit her lip, trying to come up with an excuse that wouldn’t give away her intentions, and she decided to deflect a bit. “So you wouldn’t miss it if I got rid of it?”
“No, no, by all means, that thing can go away,” he quipped, barely looking at her while going through each line in his accounting book.
“Awesome!” she chirped before exiting the shop and heading home to retrieve the lamp in question.
𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐕𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐄 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐈𝐍
@heartsacrosstime : “Ja’far.” Kagome comes into his office, eyes watery and puffy. Her usual smile all but gone as a look of sorrow graces her face. “Is it so bad … I want to be a mother?”
There are few things that can pull Ja'far away from his desk; declarations of war, world ending catastrophes, his coffee pot running empty. Kagome, standing tearful in his doorway, wilted, is one such thing.
He sets down his pen and sweeps around his desk. With a gentle hand, he takes Kagome with a hand at her back and guides her to the settee against the wall. Ja'far makes sure to close the door behind her so they won't be disturbed. He pulls a handkerchief from his desk and hands it to her so she may dry her eyes before he takes a seat beside her.
"What's gotten you so worked up? Of course, I think you'd be a wonderful mother. So far as I know, it is a natural desire," or at least, he's heard that before. When it comes to parenting he may be teased for his 'mother hen' behaviors but he knows little else. He sets his hand atop Kagome's, knowing she's often comforted by the closeness. "Tell me what's troubling you."
One Night (14)
"Why are you always late?"
Satoru flashes a smile at Utahime and takes his seat against the wall. Why is it there are never any cushions in these meeting rooms? Yaga must pick these rooms out to be as uncomfortable as possible, so the meetings go fast. "I'm here, aren't I? Real question is why are you two here?" He gets the sorcerers employed for Jujutsu High, but why is the Tokyo school here? Didn't they just leave? Frankly, he's sick of seeing Gakuganji's face.
"I called them here because the blackouts last night also reached Kyoto." Yaga picks up his cup and takes a drink of what Satoru assumes to be tea. Or maybe sake. Who knows.
"No shit?" Satoru chuckles. "That's wild. It got that far?" He can't wait to tell Kagome.
"This is not funny," Utahime says between clenched teeth. "Whatever curse or curse user that caused that last night is strong. Too strong. It was not the power grid failing."
"At least," Yaga interjects, "That's what the civilians have been told so they don't freak out. That Tokyo and the other cities were testing out the power grid and made a mistake. It simply took them a while to fix the oversight." Yaga blows out a breath. "Did you check it out?"
"... Check what out?"
"The influx of cursed energy," Gakuganji says. "Something that strong must be a special grade. It had to be a curse, then."
Satoru clucks his tongue. Utahime fidgets with her fingers. He frowns. Is she seriously freaked out by this? "So, what's the plan? You want me to find the cause of the blackouts and then what? What if it is a sorcerer?"
"Then we need to apprehend them and bring them in for questioning. Make sure they aren't up to no good," Yaga says. "And stop grinning so damn much. What the hell are you so happy about?" Yaga makes a grand sweeping motion with his arm. "Because of the idea of another stronger sorcerer?"
"Nah." Satoru interlocks his fingers and stretches his arms out. "No need to go looking for the source. I know who did it."
"Was it that woman of yours?" Gakuganji asks sharply.
Satoru grins, flashing his teeth. "Kagome may have been a catalyst." He pokes the inside of his cheek with his tongue. "But the cursed energy was all me."
"... How was she a catalyst if the cause was you?" Utahime scratches her cheek and gives him a befuddled expression. Shoko snorts next to him and shakes her head.
"You really made it everyone's business?" Shoko says, pulling out a pack of cigarettes.
"I mean...it's not like I meant to do it. Shit just happened." He swipes his tongue over his teeth, trying his best to keep the grin off his face, but he can't. That energy massage was something else. At least they know now that the blackouts only happen when she gives him a massage. Satoru covers his mouth with his hand and turns his head to the side. Damn. Now he's thinking about earlier in the alley. She wanted to suck him off, but he didn't want her squatting so close to the ground, so they improvised with him, holding her upside down instead.
He should buy her a truckload of skirts and dresses to wear.
Utahime looks to Shoko and then at Yaga. "I don't... I don't understand?" She looks at Mei Mei, who giggles.
"Satoru was having sex," Yaga deadpans. "Explains that shit-eating grin of yours." He stands and grabs his drink. "And stop smiling so damn much," he gripes. "Unbelievable."
"You're disgusting," Utahime exclaims. "There's no way sex is that good, that it causes two blackouts."
"I mean, I caused more than two. If it reached Kyoto, then it reached the other cities too." Satoru bites his tongue, but his face hurts from grinning so much. Just thinking about Kagome makes him all giddy and shit. Is it lunchtime yet? Man, it hasn't been an hour, and he already misses Kagome.
"Disgusting."
Satoru shrugs. "Not like your opinion matters. So, we good here?"
Utahime splutters and clenches her fists. Gakuganji holds out a hand, cutting off her retort. "What kind of person makes you, of all sorcerers, lose control?"
"Ummm... I'm not sharing sex tips. Aren't you a little old?"
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M ASKING!"
"Pfft. Whatever. Either way, I ain't got anything else to add." Satoru stands and stretches his arms above his head. "Go back to Kyoto." He heads out of the room with Shoko hot on his heels. Satoru waits until they are a good distance away and then stops to address her. "What is it?"
"Are you kidding me?" She fishes out a lighter and lights the cigarette. "You bring her—"
"Kagome."
"Kagome," Shoko says, tightly. "You bring Kagome around everyone else, but I don't get to meet her?"
Satoru sighs. "Well, we can't do it tonight. We have plans. Family plans. It's not my fault your ass is slow."
Shoko growls in the back of her throat. "If I could, I would choke you."
"Pfft." Satoru laughs. "Even if I turned off infinity, you're too short to reach."
"Oh, fuck you."
Satoru pulls out his phone and huffs. Why isn't it lunchtime yet? "Maybe tomorrow you could come over for dinner or something. How's Tsumiki doing, by the way? I've reached out, but she says she's fine, but I don't know if I believe that." Satoru slides his phone back into his pocket. He's on his own today as far as getting around to his missions. The first years get Ijichi today.
"Actually, she is fine. More than fine. Gave her the green light to go back home, but I don't want her going back to school just yet. Physically she is fine, but she could be overwhelmed if she starts school back up right away." Shoko blows out the smoke. "You know, Kagome would make a great healer. I couldn't even heal Tsumiki, and she did it in an afternoon. Why are you making that face?"
"I'm not making any kind of face," he retorts, resuming his strides down the steps. "You seriously following me?" Doesn't she have work to do? He has work to do. The more missions he gets done now, the more time he can spend at lunch with Kagome and Koushi. His fingers twitch, so he stuffs them in his pockets. Kagome said she was going to show him something later.
Demons.
Those don't exist, but he is curious to see what she comes up with. Maybe a powerful curse?
"Why can't she be a healer here? You know how lacking we are."
"Yeah, you should get good," he replies absently.
"I'm going to strangle you."
"You can try," he sings songs. "It's the higher-ups I don't trust." He slows down so Shoko can catch up. "When Kagome came here the other day, she showed off some shikigami skills." He pauses at Shoko's nod. Right, someone probably filled her in. "And right after that, someone tried to pull a hit on her. Maybe the dude was telling the truth about not looking for trouble, but he also went after her, anyway."
"Back up... what?"
"Kami, Shoko, keep up. Kagome went with me on a mission the other night and a curse user was there. Not sure if the bounty is to take her alive or not, but it's out there. I don't want her under the higher-up's noses any more than she already is. Couldn't get him to talk, so I killed him to send a message."
"I want to say she'd be too valuable as a healer... but with her being attached to you and birthing another six eyes and limitless user..." Shoko blows out a breath and then takes another drag of the cigarette. "Yeah, guess it's best not to." She cuts her eyes at him. "Though you can admit it. You just like her being at home, which is odd to me. Thought you wanted strong allies."
Satoru wrinkles his nose. "I do want strong allies and I also like knowing my wife is at home, safe."
"You aren't married, right?"
"Not yet. I'm getting the ring custom-made, but it's a given. Just a matter of when." He presses his lips together. "You think she would want it before she starts showing?"
"... She's pregnant?"
"I mean, I hope so." The amount of times he came in her last night, she should be.
"Dear Kami." Shoko puts her cigarette out on the back of her hand. "If you two have any more like Koushi, the higher-ups may actually fall over dead."
Satoru looks up at the sky and smiles. "That would be wonderful."
"Why am I here?" Megumi asks. Satoru rolls his eyes behind the blindfold and claps Megumi on the back.
"Because it's a family lunch, and I asked Kagome if she could show you some shikigami techniques. She's the strongest user I know."
Megumi blinks. "Kagome-san? I heard from the others that she made one that looked like you... but I have ten shadows. It's a little different."
"Not that much. I'm sure you can learn something." Satoru opens the door and slides his shoes off. Ryu's loud voice booms throughout the house, followed by Himari's laughter. They round the corner to the kitchen where Ryu is boasting about some great feats and juggling the kitchen knives, while the old man stares on in boredom. "Uh? What are you doing?"
"SATORU MY FAVORITE NEPHEW!" Ryu collects the knives and sets them down on the counter. He beams at Satoru and plants his hands on his hips. He's wearing... jeans. Since when does Ryu dress down and wear actual jeans and a casual shirt?
"I'm your only nephew."
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID!"
"Stop yelling," Father complains. "No one even invited you." He rolls his eyes. Himari laughs and places a hand on his arm. Satoru zeros in on the movement. The hell? Kagome makes a face and jerks her head towards Himari and his father. Himari moves her hand, only for the old man to grab it and place it on his chest.
Satoru clucks his tongue. He just lost his appetite.
Kagome shakes her head and bounces Koushi. She walks over to him, and he immediately wraps his arms around her, drawing her and Koushi in for a hug. "Those two are really hitting it off," she whispers.
"It's a little revolting." Damn, she looks really good in her priestess getup.
Kagome exhales. "Be nice." She turns to look at Megumi. "Hi, Megumi. I'm glad you could join us. Lunch isn't quite ready yet, but Satoru told me you're a shikigami user?"
Megumi nods, though he takes a slight step back. Satoru stifles a laugh. Megumi is still wary of a baby?
"Okay, great. Satoru, you and I need to head out real quick, but I figured while Satoru and I are gone, Megumi, you could practice with one of mine." She purses her lips together. "Scratch that. I'll just give you one."
"Give him what?" Satoru asks.
"A shikigami, of course. You're family and I haven't given you a welcoming gift yet," Kagome continues, gently pushing Koushi into Satou's arms.
"... You can do that?" Megumi blinks. "Do you mean like you have a talisman?"
Kagome shakes her head. "No, nothing like that. Here, hold out your hands."
Megumi shoots him a look but holds out his hands. Kagome holds her out in front of her. There's an influx of energy. Ryu quiets down for once and Koushi turns his head to stare at Kagome and Megumi. Satoru chews on his tongue. Is that an egg?
"Uh, Kagome-san? I don't—"
Crack.
"It's a gift. Though I don't know what will come out of it."
Megumi stares at the brown and white egg in his hands. A head pops out of the top. Koushi lets out a stream of giggles. Satoru leans over to the side and stares at the cat shikigami. It's small and doesn't look like much... but he moves his face closer.
"It's a baby," Kagome explains. "But it should grow in power relative to you, since it imprinted."
Megumi's eyes widen. The cat shakes off the rest of the shell and then jumps into Megumi's shadow. Satoru turns his head at Kagome. When he asked her to help Megumi, his mind didn't even entertain the notion of her gifting a shikigami. This is... for once, he is at a loss for words.
"THAT'S MY FAVORITE NIECE!"
Kagome chortles. "I'm glad your opinion of me has improved." She looks over her shoulder. "Satoru and I will be right back. Don't eat without us." She smiles at him and motions for him to follow. "Megumi, make yourself comfortable."
Satoru snorts. Megumi sits down at the table with the old man and Himari, and summons the cat shikigami from his shadows. It prances around on the table and holds out a paw at Himari. Satoru shakes his head and then follows Kagome out of the house. "Where's Gramps?"
"Oh, he's still talking to some people. I helped with the blessings earlier." Kagome leads them to a... well house. The hairs on his neck raise. Something isn't right about this well. It doesn't feel cursed, though. Kagome grabs a big ass yellow bag and slides it on. It's bigger than her.
"What's in the bag?"
"Oh, I got some gifts for Sango and the others."
"... Sango?" Satoru hums and rocks Koushi. "Baby, we're in a well house."
Kagome rolls her eyes. "I know that. You wanted to see demons, so I'm going to show you some. However, Sango isn't a demon. She's human." Kagome frowns. "Hopefully she's still alive." She perks up and holds out her hand. "Come on. You need to be holding on to me when we go down the well, so the magic works. I already undid the seal earlier."
Satoru shifts Koushi to one arm and takes Kagome's hand with his free hand. "I just want you to know that this is super sketchy and I must be in love with you to be jumping down a dark well to potentially see actual demons."
"It hasn't even been a month." Kagome pauses. "I'm sure it's just infatuation."
"Ehh, I don't think infatuation feels like this." He peers down at the well. "Would it be better for you to drop the bag and then I just carry you and Koushi instead?"
Kagome hums, pulling her hand away to do just that. "I would usually travel alone." She drops the bag down the well and then holds out her hands for Koushi. Satoru waits until Koushi is settled and then picks Kagome up bridal style.
"So, I just jump, huh?"
"Scared?"
He snorts. "Not at all. Just never had the urge to jump down a well." He rolls his tongue over his teeth as he hops down. Blue lights up the area and the energy feels ancient. Satoru clucks his tongue. An open sky?
"Set us down and take the bag up. I'll hand Koushi out to you."
Satoru nods, though his mind is on high alert. He picks up the bag and hops out of the well. It's quiet. Too quiet. And far too open. He pulls his blindfold down and then turns back to the well to get Koushi. Kagome climbs up the ladder and then stretches her arms out in front of her.
"Ready?" She slides the bookbag over her shoulder. Satoru frowns. Where are they?
"I can carry that," he insists, but Kagome shakes her head and sidesteps him. "Kagome," he says, leveling her with a look. "Let me carry some of the burden."
She blinks. "Okay." She slides the bag off and sets it down on the grass. Satoru holds Koushi out to her and then slides the bag on.
"So, where are we going?"
"To the village." Kagome smiles down at Koushi, who looks around at his surroundings.
"Is this another world?" He walks next to her. His fingers flex at his sides.
"No, this is the feudal period," Kagome says casually. "You're sensing some low-level demons. They won't bother us."
Satoru glances at her from the corner of his eye. "Did you just say we time-traveled?" The energy coming from the forest sure doesn't feel like cursed energy either. Maybe she's telling the truth about demons.
Kagome hums.
Satoru opens his mouth and then frowns. That does not feel like a low-level demon. He steps in front of Kagome and Koushi. A man in a bright red outfit and white hair comes running towards them.
Dog ears?
"BITCH WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!"
Bitch?
"You want to repeat that?" Satoru growls out. Kagome touches his arms, but he's too pissed off right now. He doesn't know who this man—demon—is, but fuck him.
"That's InuYasha," Kagome says.
"... What?" Him? She married a demon?
"Who the fuck are you?" InuYasha snarls. "And why the fuck would you bring this fucker here?" InuYasha's eyes darken and his lips curl back at the sight of Koushi. "You fucking bitch," he spits out. "All this time you led me to believe you were infertile and yet you show up with a kid?" He barks out a laugh. "You were taking those damn herbs, huh? What, I wasn't good enough for you?"
"That's not..." Kagome falters, moving closer to Satoru's side.
"That's enough," Satoru says. "Apologize before I break your neck." He drops the bag behind him.
InuYasha scoffs and pulls out his sword. Satoru narrows his eyes. Not a cursed tool, but its energy is similar to InuYasha's, so maybe a demonic one then. "I'on know why you came here with his fucker, but after I kick his ass, you're going right back where you belong." InuYasha cracks his neck. "He can keep the kid."
Satoru narrows his eyes and flashes in front of InuYasha, punching him in the face. InuYasha swings, but the sword doesn't connect. He continues to swing at him while Satoru continues to throw punches. He should rip his head off. The sword glows red and with one hit; the sword nicks Satoru's arm. He grits his teeth and kicks InuYasha in the gut. InuYasha huffs as he jumps back. His fingers tighten on the hilt and when he swings the sword, the wind picks up... and Satoru's heart drops.
That fucking idiot!
He turns and rushes over to Kagome and Koushi, gathering them in his arms. The attack leaves three long cracks in the ground, where Kagome and Koushi were just at. Thank Kami, that attack was slow or else... Satoru squeezes his eyes shut for a moment. He doesn't want to dwell on it.
"Shit! Kagome, are you okay?"
"Don't you fucking address her," Satoru bites out.
Koushi sniffs and then cries. Satoru blinks. Crap. All this time, and he's never heard Koushi cry before.
"InuYasha, sit," Kagome says.
There's a thud followed by a yell. Koushi stops crying. Satoru turns his head and stares at the spot where InuYasha was at.
"You can put me down now," Kagome says, but Satoru shakes his head. He could have lost them. "Okay, but we still need the bag." Satoru glances back.
"Do you have a binding vow on that bag?"
"A what?"
"Never mind." He shifts Kagome in his arms and uses blue to attract the bag to him.
"Oi!" InuYasha climbs out of the crater. "I'm not done talking to you."
"Sit." Kagome sighs. "Just go straight and we should reach the village. There's someone there I want you to meet."
Satoru nods, not trusting himself. His body screams at him to finish the job. He pauses and turns to look at the crater. "Koushi, red."
Koushi blinks and then holds out his hands in front of him. The red is huge and far from precise, but it hits InuYasha right as he climbs out to the crater and sends him flying a few feet back. Koushi laughs and claps his hands.
Satoru smiles. "That's my boy."
***
A/N: Happy Fri-yay. I listened to the new Megan thee Stallion song and I'm so happy she was able to get Yuji's VA to do the intro lol.
This meeting actually happened way earlier than I planned, but as usual, I plan and the characters throw my notes out the window. There will probably be another fight before they leave because Satoru is itching to do some permanent damage and InuYasha is pissed that Kagome showed up with someone else.
Kagome didn't react to 'bitch' because InuYasha said it a lot over the years and he's a dog demon, so it's harsh to human ears but not so harsh to demon ears.
We'll probably also get another How To Tame Side Story. Main story hasn't been updating as frequently because I've been trying to see where the manga is going and how much of the 'canon' I want to throw out or keep lol.
Take care of yourselves! Get some rest and I hope you have an awesome weekend.
fairlybeloved asked: "I don't want to hurt you. But if you force my hand, I won't hold back, and you'll regret it." However threatening the words, he didn't mean any of it. If the situation came to blows he would think of something else. He just knew that he couldn't be caught there. He didn't know the woman in front of him, only that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. 'Please, just walk away.'
. 『 @fairlybeloved 』
「巫女」:: Mahogany irises just kind of stared at the man in front of her. He was--handsome in a way...Though speaking a bit oddly. If he didn't want anyone to be here--he shouldn't have come to a temple shrine in the middle of a city. Canting her head, she set the broom she had been sweeping the temple flagstones with before she'd come across this guy, aside.::
. "I would--if my family didn't - live here. You are in a temple shrine, you know. So, if you didn't want anyone to find you--wrong place. Clearly, you don't want me to know what it is you're doing, so I won't ask that, yet. But I will ask: Who are you? And do you need any help?"
. ::She wasn't positive, but she felt like this guy wouldn't hurt her. Despite the threats he gave off. Something about him though, made him seem like a rather stand-up kind of guy. So, she brazenly offered to help him. Never mind the fact that that was who she was anyway, and a miko as well, so she was bound to do it.::
. "If it helps to calm your fears, I'll introduce myself. I'm Kagome, a miko, and as I said before, my family lives and runs this temple shrine."
Kagome’s time between worlds. Drabble collection for @inukag-week 2023 ☆ Chapter 6/7 – Courting: Kagome tries her best. Tags: Hojo the Aloof / Bad Date Blues Word Count: 600 (Hexadrabble) 《 Previous〡Next 》
No matter how she framed it, Kagome Higurashi would go down as the worst date in Tokyo.
Japan. The World. Possibly, the entirety of Earth’s history.
The relief of reaching the top of the shrine steps was short-lived as she trudged onward, and recants tagged along to torment her like the sandals pinching her toes. The house was dimmed to match her mood, and she entered, tucking her shoes and bag away. She followed the light leaking from the living room and peeked in to find her mother asleep in front of the TV.
She’d know instantly it hadn’t gone well. Even worse, she’d know that fell to Kagome, and the tiny restaurant that rubbed their shoulders highlighted every glaring reason why they – this – would never work.
Why no one would likely ever work.
Responsibility for the date that was desultory at best was hers, though the chances of her keeping a straight face when she imagined a man bursting through the wall to save the day and cart her away were as slim as the chances of it happening.
Nothing went wrong. It just wasn’t right.
Guilt lingered as she climbed the stairs. She’d be happy, taken care of. She wouldn’t have a single thing to complain about.
But that was the problem; she didn’t want it easy.
Hojo, on paper, was a catch. He’d be the type of man to appreciate her cooking, who wouldn’t spoil a meal with instant ramen, the type who wouldn’t steal fish from someone's pond. The kiss of death rang its bell over shared teppanyaki when she grasped, horrifyingly, that she’d rather the taste of haphazardly hunted pigeon to any organic, hand-fed anything, or the sour taste of questionable broth over expensive, remedial tea leaves.
Her room was lit, waiting for her like the pyjamas on her bed, and she sat on its edge to remove her makeup. Someone that wasn’t Hojo could appear tomorrow and sweep her off her feet, but she’d already been swept, and the people she held fast to knew too.
It was in the way her mother tried to hide sad smiles when she thought Kagome wasn’t looking. In the tired, wistful sighs her grandfather made when rifling through artefacts he could never hope to lift. In the way her brother stopped mentioning his hero, all because he’d grown up, and understood her tight-lipped smiles weren’t as cheery as she’d hoped.
With more time between them than they’d had together, Kagome had never been able to shake it. She was in love with Inuyasha, had been since she was fifteen, and always would be.
She threw the blackened cotton ball in the trash. Sometimes, she wondered if that was really her. If she could strike anything with a single arrow by believing herself capable of it so fiercely. If she was the girl the jewel feared most in this world – in any world.
Inuyasha refused to believe she’d been born for any cycle, and he’d been right; she was here, living and breathing in a world devoid of never-ending battle.
She smiled at the cards she’d made for her friends for graduation, stacked on the nightstand so she wouldn’t forget them, and laughed quietly to herself when she thought yes, that had been her, and she could do anything she put her mind to, even if that was fighting tooth and nail to graduate and make her family proud.
She glanced towards the window; she could trust the moonlight to keep her safe.
Kagome reached out, and for the first time in years, she turned the light off.
