German metallers POWERWOLF kicked off their 12-date North American tour on August 29 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California.

POWERWOLF's latest studio album, "Wake Up The Wicked", came out on July 26 via Napalm Records. The highly anticipated follow-up to the extremely successful "Call Of The Wild" (2021) was once again producedby Joost Van Den Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities and marks a new benchmark and undisputed career highlight for the band. The new album is hard, surprising and full of variety. While staying true to their established, loved sound, POWERWOLF go one step further and showcase a different facet of their deft musical and technical skills. This is evident, for example, on the outstanding single "1589", which is based on a true story from the 16th century.
20 years after their formation in 2004, POWERWOLF are expanding their repertoire with the highest quality and adding many future live hits to their extraordinary discography. "Wake Up The Wicked" is yet another statement cementing the status of the band as a leading force in the world of heavy metal.
The first single from "Wake Up The Wicked", "1589" tells the story of Peter Stump, who lived near Cologne, Germany in the 16th century and is known today as the Werewolf Of Bedburg. After being defamed as a werewolf, the farmer confessed to several murders under torture and was cruelly executed on October 31, 1589. This morbid story has fascinated people all over the world ever since and has been picked up by National Geographic, among others.
For the video for "1589", POWERWOLF traveled to England to stage Stump's fate in the dark woods in a cinematic way. With carefully selected locations, countless actors and crew members, and impressive special effects, it marks the most elaborate music video production in the band's history to date.
POWERWOLF are undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and successful heavy metal bands of the last decade. Multiple No. 1 album chart entries, gold and platinum records, huge sold-out arena shows, as well as headline slots at the biggest festivals have paved their way. Interview with TikTok Star, Caoimhe Morris

TikTok is a rapidly growing social media app, created when ByteDance, a Beijing-based company, spent $1 billion to purchase Musical.ly and merged their own app Douyin (Chinese: 抖音) with it. The new app was launched in 2017. Rising in popularity each year since. In 2019, CNET announced TikTok was the 7th most downloaded mobile app of the decade, from 2010 to 2019.
It is a micro-video app, one where users create and share videos from 15 to 60 seconds. The editing features are leagues above the standard social media apps, more comparable to that of professional editing software. 1,000 of features, from instant eye recoloring to flaming backgrounds, all with a single click. The app has videos for anyone and everyone ranging from cooking, vlogging, comedy, music, politics, and cosplay.
I asked a TikToker I’ve been following if I could interview her, she said yes. She is Caoimhe Morris, @caoimhemorris on TikTok, who has 910.7 K followers and 23.9 million likes. She is a cosplayer, famous for creating and acting as her own characters.

McPherson: What would you like our readers to know about you?
Morris: I am a geeky girl that likes to dress up and act like other people.
McPherson: How has your life changed because of this app?
Morris: I didn’t really notice how much this app had changed my life until I realized I only hang out with TikTokers now and not even on purpose. I literally have made so many amazing friends on this app and have had so many unforgettable experiences like traveling or getting to work with brands I never thought I would, overall I’m just so grateful for getting this far.
McPherson: Is there anything you’d change if you were given a second chance?
Morris: I try not to live with regrets because they make you into the person you are.
McPherson: How do you edit so well?
Morris: I loved the creative field even when I was younger, I wanted to act, make films, draw basically do anything under the sun but I didn’t have the people to really put it together so I taught myself how to edit, film etc so I could just do it myself.
McPherson: What has been the best moment you’ve had so far on the app?
Morris: The best moment I’ve had on this app is probably anytime in Aruba. Morris: Probably when I put a lot of hard work into a video and no one sees it, that’s a little disheartening but it’s ok next video will be better. McPherson: Do you think the friendships you’ve made with other creators will last?
Morris: I hope so! I know some of us will drift apart but there are some that I am pretty sure will last a long time. McPherson: Are there any new original characters secrets you could share? Backstories, new characters?
Morris: I have a new character I’m working on where her band and her are cursed and anytime they play their music they turn into these “creatures” but apart from that new characters are still in the works. Secrets wise the only secret I can think of is a lot of people don’t know that Frenchie kisses her victims on the cheek after she kills them. [Frenchie is Caoimhe’s mafia character.]
McPherson: Do you see yourself moving into more social media apps anytime soon?
Morris: Probably I would love to do more YouTube stuff but I think right now TikTok is good enough for me!

ACB registers case against then I/C MDM Mawer for embezzlement of funds
Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said to have registered a case against the then Incharge Mid-Day meal, Zone Mawar, Langate for misappropriation and embezzlement of MDM funds.
A statement issued to the news agency, ACB said that a preliminary enquiry was conducted by J&K ACB to look into the allegation that accused public servant namely Abdul Rashid Dar, the then Mid-day-Meal incharge at ZEO office Mawar, son of Abdul Gani of Shanoo Langate, District Kupwara in league with officers and officials of the Zone illegally & fraudulently credited Lakhs of rupees meant for MDM to his own account in J&K Bank Qalamabad and misappropriated same etc.
“The probe conducted has revealed that National Programme of Nutritional Support to Education (popularly known as Mid Day Meal Scheme) was launched across country and in the J&K State in September 2004 with an objective to give a boost to Universalization of Primary Education by increasing enrollment, retention and attendance,” the statement said.
The programme has been universalized in J&K & at gross root level, the scheme is being implemented under the supervision of PRIs, School Management Committees & Village Education Committees, it reads.
“The food grains are lifted from the FCI by the Directors of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department on behalf of the Education Department .Necessary expenses on account of implementation of the Mid-day Meal Scheme were being met out of the funds in the ratio of 90:10 as Central Share and State Share. The probe conducted also reveal that during the year 2017, to 2019, an amount of Rs 73,66,335 was allotted by the Govt. through Chief Education Officer Kupwara vide different orders to then ZEO’s of Education Zone Mawar Langate under Mid-day meal scheme. On receipt of funds the then MDM incharge Zone Mawar Abdul Rashid Dar S/o Abdul Gani R/o Shanoo Langate District Kupwara dishonestly and fraudulently managed to transfer an excess amount of Rs 7,07,495/- into official accounts of 14 schools covered under MDM Scheme in Education Zone Mawar District Kupwara,” the statement reads.
The accused managed the release of excess payment in favour of schools by resorting to escalation of amount in different advices and later on received the amount back from MDM incharges of schools in cash on pretext of depositing it back into the official account but instead misappropriated & embezzled same, it added.
Accordingly on the culmination of preliminary enquiry a case under FIR number 14-2024 U/S 5(1) (c), 5(1) (d) r/w section 5(2) of JK PC Act Svt. 2006 was registered at P/S ACB Baramulla against the accused public servant Abdul Rashid Dar S/o Abdul Gani R/o Shanoo Langate District Kupwara the then incharge Midday Meal Education Zone Mawar District Kupwara and investigations were set into motion, it reads.
Immediately after registration of case search warrants were obtained from the court & in pursuance to which searches are being conducted simultaneously at three different locations in Handwara in presence of executive magistrates & independent witnesses. Further investigations are going on.

random facts/info — 01. actually i'm learning english beig self-taught! since kid i play video games and needed to use the google translator to talk to people or understand the games, it turns out i naturally keep memorising every word. so then being a teenager and interacting with fandoms, fanfics and music... it just got better. so now i am just risking it typing (sometimes i use the google translator ngl. but have times that i type an entire paragraph without any mistakes!!! 🥰) aaand rightnow i can watch movies and videos without dubbing, but sometimes i still need english subtitles to compreheend some words.
02. i went with my mother to the BTS concert on may 25 in 2019, when they returned to brazil after 3 years, it seems silly but it was very difficult for a big k-pop group to step foot in a stadium here in brazil at that time. i consider that one of the best days of my life. ♡
03. my mom took my dad and i to ccxp 2022 in december 2nd, and only later did i find out that the day after we went (december 3rd), pedro pascal was there, in my country and state, in the comic con... this was shortly before i started being a fan of his. 🥲 it's not a super cool fact maybe, but i like to remember and laugh about it a little because i see how only destiny (and money, obviously) didn't let this happen😭 (i'm delusional, you don't say)

Red And Blue 1.
Week 1 - Concept Phase
Colours can be associated with many aspects of life, such as emotions, religion, objects, gender ...etc. Red and blue are opposite colours with strong emotional meanings. Red usually represents the anger, passion in the other hand Blue represents sadness and coldness. In certain cultures, the red was the colour of devil and blue symbolized the sky, heaven. The painting “Fallen Angel” by Alexander Cabanel shows the emotional transition from sadness to anger with religious theme. The emotion of Lucifer an exceptional representation of anger and sorrow which I would like to use as an inspiration in my character creation.
The duality of the topic led me to create an assassin priest. He is possessing otherworldly ancient dragon sorcery to punish people. He has huge faith in divine punishment, and in his job. Losing faith in humanity leading him to turn against them.
Similar characters are usually represented in stylization with triangulated shapes, such as Zed or Aphelios from League of Legends. The artwork of Ilya Gagarin is an interesting representation of a rogue. I like the cold colours and the details, folds on the clothes.
For the assignment I decided to create a bust due to the limitations of the time. Through this practice my aim is to learn how clothing folds and how it can be realistically represented inside Z-Brush. Further goals to expand my knowledge in a new 3D program and to understand how projection works in Z-Brush.

3.Intertextuality and Transmedia - League of Legends by Riot analysis

Nowadays, we live in a society where “mass consumption” is a key element. In the last few decades the amount that we consume on any level: food, films, games, entertainment, even work, has increased dramatically, which has led to a higher level of dopamine required for the brain to “feel good”. This led to a constant need of stimulation, which we are not even aware of most of the time. For example: watching streaming platforms while eating and working, playing mobile games while going to work or during breaks.
This constant social consumption motivated companies to extend and create more and more material in order to satisfy the viewers and at least keep them engaged if not bringing other viewers. Gaming studios extended into films, TV series, books, and film studios extended into games, books, comics etc. Another factor of the extension of gaming and streaming companies is the competition between them for “territory” who owns monopoly over the studios and by default, the market. Because studios need to produce so much in such a short time, as the quantity delivered has increased, the quality of it has drastically decreased.

In the video gaming market many studios tried to extend their franchises, making sequels and prequels of their games, making smaller versions for mobile or even realising small books with the story. However, I believe that the gaming studio that perfectly managed to create a complex transmedia universe is Riot Games through League of Legends (fig.1). Starting from the League of Legends game in 2009 the gaming studio constantly developed adding new playable champions to the game, skins, game modes and events with every update. In 2011 Riot Games started organising League of Legends World Championship (fig.2), with a prize of 100,000$, eight competing teams from Europe, North America and South Asia and 1.6 million viewers. Since then, the championship kept growing with amazing intro shows, live singers, holograms and many more. In 2018 the World Championship final was watched by 99.6million people on streaming platforms breaking the record of its previous year. Through their hard work, in 2019 the game peaked at eight million competitive players and kept growing since then. In present there are 165 unique playable characters for the player to choose from, each having multiple skins, abilities and playstyles. It is impossible for someone not to find at least a few champions to enjoy playing with.

The champions that are released are not just simple characters. Each of them has a lore and background story that adds a little piece of the puzzle which is the whole Runetera universe, perfectly illustrating Jenkins' multimodality (Jenkins, 2011). Even though the game itself is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, with no actual story play, Riot games put a lot of attention in building the story and complex characters. The world map contains ten distinctive regions: Freljord, Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover & Zaun, Targon, Shurima, Ixtal, Bilgewater and Shadow Islands. The story is kept alive through the release of cinematics and lore pages during seasons or events. The story expanded so much that Riot released multiple books with background stories of certain champions, art books, world exploration books, and even whole events like “Ruination: A League of Legends Novel” by Anthony Rynolds. This expansion of the game studio into literature enabled the players to have a better grasp of the reason why certain champions are released and how they connect to each other. It also gives more depth to the game, creating a more immersive experience for the player. It’s not just a 30min game in which you keep fighting random people, it’s a whole world you can explore.

Besides the books and World Championships, League of Legends dived into the music industry as well, adding a new layer of transmedia. Starting with the music released with champion themes and cinematics, in 2014 Riot Games presented the virtual heavy metal band Pentakill in order to promote the release of the skins with the same name. Four years later in 2018 League of Legends got a new virtual band named K/DA (fig.4), a K-pop girl group formed of the in game champions Ahri, Akali, Evelynn and Kai’Sa and interpreted by Cho Mi-yeon, Jeon So-yeon, Madison Beer, Jaira Burns, Bea Miller. The band had a huge success with their singles “Pop Stars” and “The Baddest” which made K/DA the first K-pop girl group in history to achieve this milestone. In the more recent years, Riot has released two more bands True Damage in 2019 and Heartsteel in 2023, formed as well of in-game champions, with huge success. Each champion from the bands got their special skin with the same name as the band. I believe that by creating these fun virtual bands, League of Legends received a new, innovative way of engaging with the players and many more people who are not video-game passionate. The cinematic and music videos have thousands of reviews and reactions from music and film producers from all around the world, granting League of Legends even more publicity.

Having roots in the gaming, book, comics and music industry wasn’t enough for Riot games and they took a huge step further and released in 2021 the first season of the animated TV series Arcane (fig.5), which had a huge impact among cinephiles. The first season has nine episodes and presents the story between the League of Legends champions Vi and Jinx, and features others like Caitlyn, Jace, Viktor, Ekko, etc. The story reveals a new, more complex side of their lore and adds so much more depth to the universe. Once again, Riot Games used transmedia to bring multiple areas together such as the characters from the game, incorporated in a new cinematic plot and with original music which features legendary artists such as Imagine Dragons and Sting.
In conclusion, I believe that the complex fictional world of League of Legends perfectly illustrates the concept of transmedia: "complex fictional worlds which can sustain multiple interrelated characters and their stories " (Jenkins, 2007). It combines the radical intertextuality, having similar elements across platforms like characters and regions, with Jenkins’ multimodality, having so much variation across many platforms such as virtual bands in music, TV series with extra plots, characters, books, comics with background and side stories. Having such a complex hyperdiegesis hooks the player and attracts even more viewers from other areas, creating a huge fandom. It offers a wide range for the player to interact with and explore, an immersive interactive experience on multiple levels.

Colours can be associated with many aspects of life, such as emotions, religion, objects, gender ...etc. Red and blue are opposite colours with strong emotional meanings. Red usually represents the anger, passion in the other hand Blue represents sadness and coldness. In certain cultures, the red was the colour of devil and blue symbolized the sky, heaven. The painting “Fallen Angel” by Alexander Cabanel shows the emotional transition from sadness to anger with religious theme. The emotion of Lucifer an exceptional representation of anger and sorrow which I would like to use as an inspiration in my character creation.
The duality of the topic led me to create a furious, beautiful assassin. He is possessing otherworldly abilities to punish people. He has huge faith in divine punishment, and in his job. Losing faith in the decision making of the gods he serves force him to realise his actions. He decides to protect humanity against the will of Heaven.
Similar characters are usually represented in stylization with triangulated shapes, such as Zed or Aphelios from League of Legends. The artwork of Ilya Gagarin is an interesting representation of a rogue. I like the cold colours and the details, folds on the clothes.
For the assignment I decided to create a bust due to the limitations of the time. Through this practice my aim is to learn how clothing folds and how it can be realistically represented inside Z-Brush. Further goals to expand my knowledge in a new 3D program and to understand how projection works in Z-Brush.

Ramble of the month September 2023: Phase 3 of the Batman Begins-Led DCEU
As I said last month, my aim for my September ramble is to continue looking into my hypothetical alternate superhero film universes by moving on to phase 3 of a DCEU in which Batman Begins led the way. Having outlined phase 1 in March of this year and phase 2 in June, I am glad to be retaining a consistent pacing with my rambles on this subject. However, I’m also concerned about my lack of anything more varied to discuss, and hopefully by October that will have changed.
So, first things first, as with last month’s exploration of phase 3 of my 90’s based MCU, let’s start with a quick re-cap on the previous phases;
Phase 1:

There are several key difference between the two phases. The first phase was very much about establishing the lead heroes that would then form the Justice League and doing that with those heroes. It also featured a slow build-up to the production of superhero films on a very regular basis. Phase 2 then expanded on this by adding in more heroes, while at the same time straining the relationships of lead characters with the public in their universe and with each other. By the tail-end of phase 2, Batman has seemingly betrayed the Justice League in an adaptation of the Tower of Babel story arc, been slightly vindicated by a few leaguers being mind-controlled and having to be stopped by Green Arrow in that hero’s second film, and we’ve the Suicide Squad rolling around as well.
All that being said, we’ve also had Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow and Batman gain their first proteges in phase 2, setting up for another form of team-up ensemble film, which is part of the phase 3 overview outlined below;

Shazam is one of those films from the real DCEU I would avoid changing too much just because Shazam isn’t my strongest area of DC lore to conceive any alternate ideas around. That’s not to say I haven’t done so later in my ideas for this hypothetical film run, but rather that I wouldn’t have much luck changing the original film substantially. As such, the director would remain the same and so would most of the cast. The few I’ve changed have been down to either casting the actors from the real film elsewhere in this hypothetical film universe, or the fact that this would now be a 2015 film instead of a 2019 one. The story of the film would also be about the same, but some of the references to other DC heroes might different based on the events of earlier films.

Discounting the Batman-Superman joint film from phase 2, this is our third solo instalment for Superman, and while film 1 was very much like the 2013 Man of Steel made a bit brighter compared to what Snyder did, the second film was a more classic Superman versus Lex Luthor and Metallo with an assist from the Martian Manhunter. Film 3, however, looks at Superman after his bout of mind-controlled criminality in Green Arrow 2. His relationship with the public and the governments of the world is strained, and when his cousin Supergirl crash-lands on Earth and accidentally does damage due to her newly manifested powers, things become even rockier.
To this end, a small super-group is formed by the US armed forces under the orders of General Hardcastle, which brings in military superhero Captain Atom at the head of a small team of otherwise villains sent after Superman. However, little does anyone know that Supergirl has been tracked to Earth by Brainiac, and when he arrives, the true heroes and villains are dictated by who is willing to refocus on this new threat and who isn’t. Most of the cast is retained from past films, with the Supergirl-to Volcana portion of the cast being all new. As for picking Mr del Toro to direct, those who have read my previous rambles will know I’ve gone through Roland Emerich, Ron Howard and Rob Marshall on the films where Superman is somehow in the title. This is because I think Superman is someone who benefits from a regular change in director to add some variety to the character. Also, the man did great work on Blade II and also has prior comic-film experience from the original Hellboy films, so it’d be interesting to see him deal with a less anti-heroic protagonist.

Because of the power-set and civilian occupation of the Atom, I figured the director should be someone with some experience of dealing with the microscopic and forensic. In short, it needed to be someone who had dealt with an episode of CSI at least once. As a result, I landed on the idea of Michael Nankin, who helmed the Star Trek-homage episode of CSI in its ninth season, making a cinematic directorial debut on this one. The film is basically about Dr Ray Palmer becoming estranged from his wife as he cracks the means to shrink a human being, and then works to stop the time-travelling Chronos with the aid of Firestorm, a superhero composed of two beings in one.
As the film goes on, Palmer learns his wife is outright cheating on him, and when faced with Chronos has to ask the question; should he co-opt the villain’s time-travel tech to fix his marriage, or is that too close to Chronos’ abuses of the tech? In that sense, I would really want to see this film look just at the disintegration of a romantic connection without trying to set up an alternate one. Not all superhero romances have happy endings, and it would be good to showcase how life in super-tights can mess up a personal life well into the supposedly “happily ever after” stage.
Casting-wise, I kept the role of Stein the same as what Arrow-verse series the Flash gave us, but then picked a number of different actors for other roles based on who I thought might look right for the parts, be the right age, etc. Several of the actors people will know from other superhero-related productions (Elden Henson was in the Netflix Daredevil series, Morena Baccarin is known for her roles in Gotham and the Deadpool films, and of course Dominic Cooper played the 1940’s/50’s version of Howard Stark in the MCU).

After having done two period-set Wonder Woman films under Trek alumni Gates McFadden, this third instalment of the Amazon’s solo adventures is handed over to Patty Jenkins and comes into the modern era. In this film, Wonder Woman hasn’t made the same efforts as Superman and the Flash to rebuild her bridges following the mind-control incident in Green Arrow 2. As a result, she is operating almost Batman-style within Washington DC, posing as an archaeological expert while secretly foiling crime. However, this is interrupted when she discovers that one of her colleagues, Dr Alannah Troy, has sired a young girl with the Greek god Hades, and now Diana’s half-cousin is being sought by a cult bent on freeing Hades from Tartarus.
Except for Wonder Woman and her mother Hippolyta, this film is all-fresh casting, and the character of Alannah Troy and the new Wonder Girl origin are my own ideas, albeit slightly based on events from the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated shows. This is because Donna Troy’s origins get very confused in the comics, and I think having Diana and Donna be cousins via their godly fathers provides a decent simplification for cinematic audiences.

Keeping with the idea of female-led franchises on and off-screen, we come to a solo film for Batgirl. This one is helmed by Gates McFadden and Reese Witherspoon, the latter being someone who I am aware started her own production company to try and put female-centric stories on the big screen. As such, I’m thinking she might well jump at the chance to co-direct a Batgirl solo film with another female director. The plot would differ a little from the comics; instead of trying to clear her father of a crime he didn’t commit, Barbara initially becomes the Batgirl in homage to Batman. Only when her father is kidnapped by Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn does Batgirl take her role more seriously, stepping up to become a true superheroine and in the process shifting from hero worship of Batman to seeing him as a friend and ally.
Now while the Joker is included in the cast, this is just for a flashback montage that explains why Harley is coming in as Ivy’s partner-in-crime on her first DCEU film. Rather than taking her through a relationship with the Joker over a film or two, we just treat it as something that’s happened between The Dark Knight film and this one. Casting-wise, everyone from Jim Gordon on-down is from past films, leaving just Barbara, her friends and the female antagonists as new selections. Bella Thorne takes the lead role due to her youth, resemblance to the comics character and good acting ability, while Margot Robbie is one of those bits of real-DCEU casting I agree with enough to retain. As for taking on April Bowlby as Poison Ivy, I know she’s landed more serious roles since her time on Two-and-a-Half-Men, and I’d be curious to see her take on Poison Ivy as a role.

It’s a sad truth in cinema as we know it that the Teen Titans have never had a serious film of them released cinematically. The only cinema versions to date have been “kiddy-fied” cartoon disasters, and the two serious animated features that have been done have been for direct-to-home-release only. As such, there was no way I’d conceive a hypothetical live-action DC universe without seeking to address this foolish oversight on the part of DC and WB. To show just how seriously I take this, I’ve even put the great Steven Spielberg at the helm, because frankly I think it would be good to have someone of that calibre lend their directorial weight to the project.
Plot-wise, you start out with the apprentices of the major heroes meeting each other and trying to team up, but something goes awry, and earns them some condemnation from Batman. A few months later, the demon Trigon begins trying to invade Earth, and his daughter Raven comes to Earth ahead of him to recruit heroes against the threat. With Batman taken out early on and the rest of the Justice League engaged, it falls to the Titans from the 1980’s comics run to assemble and meet the threat. The Fearsome Five are incorporated as pawns of Trigon, while Ravager tries and fails to collect a bounty on the Titans. His accidental death while pursuing this then leads to a credits scene in which his father Deathstroke takes up the contract, setting up for a somewhat inevitable sequel.
Batman and Alfred are brought in from past films, as are the apprentice heroes and Cyborg’s father. The rest of the cast is all new to this film. I won’t go on at length about their respective resumes; suffice it to say that past experience combined with looking like, or having the potential to look like, the relevant roles has led me to each name on this list.

One of the major watershed moments in comics history that has yet to see a film adaptation is the arc in the Green Lantern-Green Arrow combined comic of the 1970’s where Green Arrow’s sidekick Speedy turned out to have developed an addiction to drugs. When considering films for this alternate DCEU, even though I’ve never read the story, I thought some version of it should be done in film. To that end, we have this concept, which I would have directed by Matt Reeves (haven’t seen his Batman film, but I enjoyed his Planet of the Apes work). In this film, Roy Harper is recovering from injuries sustained in the early scenes of the Teen Titans film. When his doctor cuts off his pain killers prematurely, Roy turns to illegal drugs to compensate, then develops an addiction. The film then showcases Green Arrow mishandling things, Green Lantern not doing a good job himself by taking Ollie off to fight the drug pushers, and Black Canary being the one to do right by Roy, leading to both of them becoming estranged from Green Arrow.
Our heroes and the drug-dealing China White are all brought back from past films, while the rest of the cast list is new. Mannheim is incorporated to provide links to the world of Superman, while Whisper and Kyle are nods to Ra’s Al Ghul and the League of Shadows. Tobias Whale, on the other hand, is borrowed from the rogues gallery of Black Lightning, largely in homage to a similar character appearing in a Justice League Unlimited episode that featured Green Arrow and Black Canary.

For Shazam’s second solo outing, I felt like that needed to be something different, and after seeing the less-than-brilliant use of the JSA and the Tomaz family in the Black Adam film, I knew what the different thing had to be. So, step one, keep Sandberg directing. Step 2, have Black Adam appear in his fictional nation and free it in brief, then he lets himself be caught invading another country so he could be taken over to the United States, who he learns has been complicit in Kandaq’s problems prior to his liberation of his people. When Black Adam breaks free, he clashes with the Shazam family and later recruits Kandaqi-American mother-and-son Adrianna and Amon Tomaz. In this sense, the film is a kind of Shazam-centric variant on the Superman story “what’s so funny about truth, justice and the American way?”
In terms of cast, most of it remains the same as the real DCEU, with a few changes here and there. Yes, my picks for the Tomaz family are of Latin extraction instead of middle Eastern, but considering Dwayne Johnson is of Black Canadian and Samoan descent, I think it’s hardly vital we get like-for-like in actor nationalities/heritage. That said, I would be insisting on some dialect coaches so you can be convinced Black Adam is from an ancient middle east nation instead of the USA.

This is our second DCEU film of the phase, and overall, with Guillermo del Toro at the helm. This time, though, the focus is on villain-team the Suicide Squad. For the squad’s second outing, they’re caught up in a manhunt, or rather woman-hunt, for Wonder Woman after the events of that hero’s third solo film. General Hardcastle, having been disgraced in MoS 3 for his attempt to go after Superman, tries to dupe Amanda Waller into having the squad bring in Wonder Woman. However, little does he or the squad know that immortal Vandal Savage is planning a major coup, and pursuing Wonder Woman could be the very thing that allows him to succeed.
For all intents and purposes, this film is meant to be a kind of warped superhero universe variant on ‘The Fugitive’ with a little James Bond/Raiders of the Lost Ark thrown in on the third act. There are a few new names in the cast, but most are brought back from prior films. Among the new names is Katie McGrath, the actress who played Lena Luthor in the Arrow-verse series of Supergirl. As the actress is apparently Irish, I’ve shifted her into playing Silver Banshee in this film.

This is our third Justice League film, and having thoroughly shaken up the League and the DC universe over a few years, this instalment creates a bit more chaos. In this film, Steppenwolf launches an assault on Earth, and in the process the latest iteration of the Justice League ends up scattering. One group seeks out Batman, and together with additional heroes of his choosing mount a counter-strike. The other group ends up meeting heroes from New Genesis and learning that Steppenwolf is only the tip of the sword. This sets up a major multi-film story arc that runs for most of the remaining phases of this DCEU.
In terms of direction, I’ve already used Ron Howard in this hypothetical film run on Man of Steel 2, and I think this would be an interesting project for him to helm. Everyone from Steppenwolf on-down in the film casting is new to this film; Ciarán Hinds is retained from the real DCEU as I think he was let down by that Justice League film and not the film by him. As for the selection of Lindsay Kay Hayward, that was based on a search for a truly tall actress to play Big Barda without necessarily having to revert to effects or trick camera shots. As for Bernard Hill, who better than Theoden of Rohan from LOTR to be playing an alien monarch like Darkseid?

For our third Aquaman solo outing, the directorial reigns shift from Vulko actor and Trek alumni Jonathan Frakes to James Wan, director of the real DCEU’s Aquaman film. The plot is a loose translation of the Obsidian Age arc from the Justice League comics, with the ancient Atlantean sorceress Gamemnae appearing as a present-day foe and opposed by the full aqua-family, including a second Aqualad and introducing Aquagirl. Casting-wise, it’s mostly people I already chose for the past Aquaman instalments mixed with real DCEU casting and a few new ones. Also, while I chose each cast member for good reasons that trump all else, I can’t deny the slight misfortune in selecting someone with the surname Haddock for a film whose characters are all somehow aquatic in nature.

When it comes to films about misfit adventurers in a world of super-beings, James Gunn pulls them off better than most at times, so I thought it’d be interesting to see him tackle the Doom Patrol in film format. This film is very much a one-off and does a run-through on their origins while pitting them against their arch-nemeses the Brotherhood of Evil. With the antagonists being mostly French with a single German member in the comics, this was an interesting one to cast outside of the hero team. Mind you, casting for a brain in a robot body and a man wrapped in bandages is also fun because appearance is less crucial. However, I think the end result is pretty good.
So, that’s the full run-through on phase 3 of my Batman Begins-led DCEU. Hopefully, I won’t come back to this or my 90’s MCU until the new year, and I’ll have some more varied topics to discuss in the last few months of 2023. As to whether those hopes are justified, we’ll have to wait until October to see. Until then, ta-ta for now.

Sports fan activation innovation at a sport event: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to two professional sports teams: the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL) and Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) (Tucker, 2017).
Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA was the first NFL and MLS stadium to go cashless stadium wide, encouraging more transactions and boosting their sales numbers. The NFL team has established themselves as a great environment for fans, earning the leagues "voice of the fan" number one satisfaction rate (Buzalka, 2019).
The stadium was the recipient of the LEED platinum certification, this is considered to be one of the most highly regarded sustainability certifications that can be granted by the United States of America’s green building council (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2016).
The article assesses the impact of the 2019 Super Bowl on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and evaluates how the Mercedes-Benz Stadium contributed to achieving these goals. The study focuses on the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the event, and provides insights into how future major sport events can be designed and implemented to align with the SDGs (Erikson et al, 2019).
There are several sustainable design elements of the stadium, which includes the use of solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system, and recycled materials. These features contribute to the overall sustainability of the stadium by reducing energy consumption and water waste (Reed et al, 2019).
The media covered all the positive and sustainable elements of the stadium being built however, there were claims that the enormous amount of money spent on the stadium could have been used better to benefit the historically black neighborhoods it was built in. A neighbourhood in Atlanta's southeast called "Lightning" was flattened to make way for the Georgia Dome in the 90s, now the land the Georgia Dome was on is where you can find the Mercedes Benz stadium.
The venue is unlike anything built before it and will undoubtedly benefit the community and has already helped south-east Atlanta grow to a better economic standpoint in the last 5 years (Fausset, 2019).
