A STATEMENT FROM NO ONE, INCORPORATED
“what is it when a death is ruled a homicide but no one is responsible for it”—Hanif Abdurraqib We are not responsible. We have not the capacity to respond, cannot take your call, are not obliged. We promise nothing in return except that we will return, asking that the potential profit this lost life’s labor could have produced be accounted for, and blaming our Black dead president for the deficit. We are deficient and without your damage the world is difficult work to live on. We live on the unanswerable, assert that acknowledgment is inartistic, history is regressive, and aggression looks like no one we know. No one is responsible while we have the luxury to see ourselves as infinite ones, ocean of individual possibility. We are so many blades in the yard the wind runs screaming invisibly through. We need to have a deeper dialogue about the need for deeper dialogue, but oh oh, we are always these spondees of speechlessness and cannot process your request, are too busy about our dreams. The celestial bodies appear from here, ripe for colonies and more questions. We are over earthly inquiry and unfortunately, though your sigh traveled light-years from the dark matter of gravity we’re intrigued to find you now are, we will not see you today (we are recessed on narrowing beaches, toasting our gods with a wellsprung red we cannot source but are confident the year was relatively good), but here, for your trouble, for coming so far:

I took the high ground higher until the air thinned. Until it didn’t matterI was a creature that required breath. I choked to death politely. I tried, anyway.

LEAVES OF GRASS
I was banished or else                               I was trapped. I couldn’t move                               without a passport and several                               fingers on my scalp, four                               contouring my hips, two                               of a stiff drink. When I was fired                               and required by law to have                               my health insured, I fell                               ill. I assured my children                               they would live if they                               quit growing, kept moving, stayed                               out of the sun, stopped                               only in well-lit areas, rearranged                               their skeletal scaffolding.                               My mother was forced to have                               the child of her would-be killer,                               was thus archetypal, was                               historical then sterilized and made                               symbolic of progress.                               In the fouryear before                               it again came down to                               sycophant or psychopath                               I overused the word haunt.                               I had choices. Craft beer.                               French-pressed Sumatra each morning.                               A Prime membership                               to discount my Whole Foods.                               I had a deconstructed soul                               food renaissance to look                               forward to. New neighbors                               sweating through candlelit                               hip-hop yoga. In order to cope                               with mourning the money                               I earned but never touched                               I worked until I dreamt                               of work. I lived nowhere near                               nontoxic water. I walked                               and was accosted. I drove                               and was accosted. I gave                               up driving, but the poles                               had already begun to collapse.                               The infrastructure collapsed.                               The trains collided. The winds                               collided and nothing remained                               anymore of our time to exhaust                               a reversal effort. Only those                               in the business of killing efficiently                               could travel. Everyone else                               was told to go back to a continent                               where the business of killing efficiently                               was booming. I was bombed                               and denied refuge. I was sent                               missionaries instead. I was given                               an immature god and told to be                               grateful. The faithful believed                               in bombs and not refugees.                               I slept in a bed and the children in cages.

East Coast Love Poems
was just named runner-up for Tusculum Review's annual chapbook contest, picked by Justin Phillip Reed. This dude won the 2018 NBA of poetry... and said my shit "so strange and so trippy, balloon-full of an intimate diction" / "a conversation that's delicious to listen to" / "a particle party of my favorite sounds." Therefore I am now a cloud, and pray that the lord sends his toughest Ls right now, so I may eat them like grapes in the shade
I think I've come to feel this body of work has some selfish lonely underbelly, but always masquerades as otherwise. But that's not what it was made to be, which is bridging the gap between poetry prose and musicality. And a mixtape of my upbringing where each piece vignettes love. And little loops that are shaped like nostalgia. And the softlike flows of dude who doesn't want to grow. See those negatory leanings happen more now, totally unintended and there's no natural way to stop it at the moment so I'm shipping lots of garb. Stripping logs of bark, tripping on the rings. Super unlike my hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. Or Knuckles the Echidna. Or Knxwledge who'd never drop the bag. Either of the Macs, who taught me it's fine to be bad, so long as always good. All I hold dear is old, and I have a hard time knowing what's gold and what's gum lately. That's the catch of writing for a daily, so lost in the sauce. What are words, really, in this day and age. Aren't we all just saying shit. I miss when things would stick to my brain and play before I sleep like neon angels. I've known what's missing but never want to give. I feel so much irony with this collection. I'm trying to reconcile how to talk about it, in case a day does come, because I don't like how any of it ends up
The end of Justin's note read, "The experience leaves me convinced not only of love language as more of a literal phenomenon than just a self-help phrase or meme trope, but also of the act of love as a force that transforms and expands how we can speak and, subsequently, how we can think and imagine and conspire.” What more could I want. It took me almost 27 years to earn, so Ima burn it in the brain

Having as its rawest material basic, fleshly vulnerability is horror’s distinction. People keep inventing and iterating ways a person can be hurt and afraid and enraged and relieved like we keep morticians in business. At the end of the day, we show up for the body. What is poetry’s body?
