Just for fun but What's your favourite and least favourite Danganronpa entries?
What do you mean by entries? As in like which game do I like the most?
I'd probably say the second one, but the fact that its a sequel is Really important to me too. Like it works as a sequel Really Well, playing on tropes and expectations the player has developed from the first game that was Really Fun for me personally. As someone who doesnt play a ton of video games and is more used to pokemon type protags who are mostly blank slates, I really liked getting to see how different Hajime was from Makoto and that they werent just the same character in a different font like Id expected.
Not to mention the replay value!! I haven't replayed it yet obvi, but I know there was a lot there that flew over my head cuz I didnt know all the context yet. So once I decide to play it again its gonna be really fun.
I also really like ultra despair girls, I mean certain parts have made me really uncomfortable but like actually playing the game is really fun and a nice change of pace from the visual novel styles of the rest of the games. Even if the junk monokumas are absolutely terrifying and disgusting. Not a game you could enjoy without the other 2 existing tho.
I think my least favorite by default is V3 or the anime if im allowed to count that. V3 is really interesting and has a lot of compelling characters, but I don't like it as a follow up game. Its messaging and themes are messy and kinda vindictive in a way that made me disappointed more often then not. The idea of a copycat reliving the glory of previous killing games is really cool, but the commentary on fandom was bleh.
My problem with the anime is literally just that I didnt think Junko was characterized in a way that properly showed off how capable and conniving she is. Like a bit of brainwashing is fine but its relied on SO heavily that it loses her points imo. I wanted to see more of her manipulating and blackmailing people. Where was the gaslight gatekeep girlbossing!!! (UDG does this better and junko doesnt even make a real appearance in it outside of the Warriors' flashbacks)

🔥about the monokubs cause everyone i know has strong feelings, good or bad (and if you have something to commentate on any of the monokuma variants of udg too, i’d wanna hear that)
Hey, Silver! I guess that means the unpopular opinion is just not having a strong opinion either way? Which matches my opinion, so there you have it. They're not consistently funny, but not consistently unfunny either. They're annoying, but on purpose, so fine by me. The constant incest jokes devolving into a full incest subplot was a huge miss and waste of time to me.
But I earnestly appreciate Monotaro's subplot of considering Miu his mom, just because they both commit to it so wholeheartedly. It really enriches Miu’s character to me, knowing she would accept this irritating creature she's been dunking on from the jump as her son just because he calls her mommy. Peace and love on planet earth.
Let's rank Monokuma variants from UDG :)
11. Beast Monokuma - consistently my least favorite gameplay sections of UDG, how the hell am I supposed to tell which pod has the kid (I know what the game claims but it did not work for me)
10. Ball Monokuma - absolute unit in the worst ways. Beautiful design, but horrible to fight
9. Bomber Monokuma - body armor is not a good look for this guy
8. Destroyer Monokuma - cooler design than Bomber but not any more fun to fight
7. Guard Monokuma - makes me feel like I'm fighting the feds
6. Siren Monokuma - I like the way this one shuffles
5. Regular Monokuma - it's Monokuma!
4. Big Bang Monokuma - pretty cool, and a great final battle
3. Junk Monokuma - awesome concept executed well!
2. Shirokuma - cutie
1. Kurokuma - I LOVE THIS MOTHERFUCKER. All he does is talk shit in the most aggravating possible manner with this stupid Hollywood gangster voice and that ridiculous pimp outfit. He's even better when you know that plot twist from the end of the game. "If there's a Nobel Prize for Monokumas, I got it in the bag!" You're goddamn right, ya asshole

Not the reveal we wanted but the reveal we got...
https://archiveofourown.org/works/50685073/chapters/128038045
“The reason Monokuma hasn’t let us go is because Shirogane-chan wasn’t the only mastermind.” Swallowing, he pointed at the wolf that had been hiding among them this whole time. “Isn’t that right, Saihara Shuichi, The Ultimate Detective?”
Or
There were two masterminds and Ouma Kokichi has the tough task of unmasking the second one, the person he trusted more than most
Use the link to read on AO3 or read Chapter 1 below!
Featuring art by the fabulous @starlightstudio1987
"You know something, don’t you Ouma-kun?”
Kokichi’s hands trembled as he gripped his podium, hating the responsibility that had just been put on his shoulders.
Breathe. You can end this.
Clenching his jaw, he raised his head, wanting to wipe that stupid smile off that stupidly beautiful face. That smile that once made his heart race had now locked it in chains and dragged down.
Clearing his throat, his eyes narrowed as he stared at the enemy he had finally realised, a tired sigh escaping his mouth. He knew no one else would believe him. Why would they? He was the liar, the one who couldn’t be trusted to answer a question correctly, no matter how easy it was.
They were probably expecting some stupid joke from him. Some self damnation, for him to yet again, claim the kill for himself until he dragged the true culprit out.
Yet, that’s not what was about to happen. No. He was about to rock their world in the worst way he could.
“The reason Monokuma hasn’t let us go is because Shirogane-chan wasn’t the only mastermind.” Swallowing, he pointed at the wolf that had been hiding among them this whole time. “Isn’t that right, Saihara Shuichi, The Ultimate Detective?”
Instantly, protests hit his ears but he refused to look away from the detective, watching as his face swirled with false confusion before it melted away to reveal a smug grin as that once sweet giggle rang out through the room, sweeping away any and all protests.
Shuichi grinned, clapping his hands as he tilted his head slightly.
“Well done Ouma-kun! I knew I could trust you.”
“Shut the fuck up.”
Kokichi refused to look away as the humming detective made his way up to the throne Monokuma had been claiming all along. He didn’t give a shit when smoke embraced Shuichi as he made his way up the steps nor did he care as his jacket was thrown to the side, revealing the secret Monokuma face on his tie.
His eyes locked onto the new red shape under a gleaming gold eye. If Shuichi’s admittance didn’t get it through, the painted Monokuma eye just rubbed it in even more.
He watched as the smirking detective sank into the seat, a pleased sigh escaping him as he picked up a cackling Monokuma.
Kokichi wanted to rush up and punch him so fucking badly but he couldn’t and he hated it. He was powerless. Sure, he had felt this way through this stupid ass game but now it was even worse.
No. All he could do was stare, the angry protests of Kaito and the cries of Himiko fading into the background.
They had unmasked the second mastermind, something they should be celebrating so why did it make him feel so…So hollow?
Was it because Shuichi was the mastermind? Was it because he didn’t know what was going to happen? Was it because now it was officially over?
He didn’t know and it was driving him crazy.
“God you’re so pathetic so just shut up will you?”
Snapping back into focus and cursing himself for losing focus, Kokichi pursed his lips, looking over at the spluttering astronaut. Of course he didn’t blame Kaito. The guy had taken Shuichi under his wing once Kaede died.
Jesus…Kaede. It was bad enough she had gone through an unwarranted execution but to know that the person who had been sitting next to her was the one she had been trying to take down? It made Kokichi sick.
“Honestly. Sidekick this, sidekick that.” Shuichi huffed. “I seriously should have stopped that bitch from adding all that annoying junk. So repetitive.” Narrowing his eyes, he leaned forward with a smirk. “You’re so fucking pathetic and predicable it’s not funny.”
“The only pathetic one here is you Saihara.”
“Oh?”
“You heard me.” Kokichi clenched his jaw. “You’re nothing more than a pathetic excuse for a human being. A parasite. I know it doesn’t mean much coming from someone like me but seriously. You are fucking disgusting and I despise breathing the same air as you.”
Shuichi pouted, hugging Monokuma closer. “Awww.” He tilted his head slightly. “But I thought I was your beloved~ Hell, you even stole my innocent wittle detective heart!” He chuckled, staring down at the disgusted leader. “I must say…You were always my favoruite Kichi. Always coming up with fun ideas.” He sighed softly, ignoring the way the young leader flinched at the nicknames.
“What a shame your final plan won’t happen. It would have been wonderful to see.” Idly, he ran a hand over the mascot’s head, the other resting on his cheek as his eyes shone. “An identifiable culprit hasn’t been done in awhile! Especially in the way you were planning.”
A thin strand of drool began to escape his lips. “Sure it’d be a lot of cleanup but using a hydraulic press to disguise the true victim? It’s just…It’s just…So amazing and despair inducing!”
Kokichi ignored the looks of disbelief thrown his way, instead, digging his nails into the wood beneath them. Sure, it was a back-up plan if Maki were to invade the hanger if he managed to kidnap Kaito but Maki was dead thanks to Tsumugi. It was just going to be an awkward thing to explain to the others after they’re out.
He scoffed, rolling his eyes. “I don’t give a shit about your creepy despair fetish. You’ve been found out, now let us go.”
“Hmmmm. Nope! That’d be too boring now wouldn’t it?”
“Why…Why are you doing this Saihara-kun?” Himiko sniffed, pulling her hat down, still unable to wrap her head around the truth.
“Why?” The mastermind laughed, clasping his hands together in front of him. “Why not? Danganronpa is the best most despair inducing event, who wouldn’t want to be a part of it?” Rocking side to side, the drool reached his chin, threatening to drip off. “Following in Enoshima-sama’s footsteps…It’s the closest I’ll ever be to the Goddess! I even sacrificed my own twin like she did!”
“You’re sick.”
“I’m sick?” He sighed. “I suppose a robot like you wouldn’t understand any of this. Besides, you are on my side remember? Idabashi works for us.”
Seeing the poor robot flinch, Kokichi did one of the things he did best. Draw the attention back to himself.
“Kiiboy is his own person. Who gives a shit if he was made by some dude who works for a cult?” Checking his nails, he sighed. “We get it. You’re horny for bad feelings and forced him to be the stand in for your pathetic friends. Doesn’t mean he belongs to you.” He ignored the confused yet appreciative look on Kiibo’s face.
He had known the robot was suspicious from the very start and took some of his paranoia out on him but even he could tell Kiibo was more than the stand in for a sick audience who got off to their suffering.
“You claim this Enoshima chick is your goddess or whatever so why don’t you join her and just execute yourself?”
Clapping his hands, Shuichi jumped up, letting Monokuma crawl onto his shoulder. “Oh! Oh! I have a great idea! We hold another vote! You guys choose between Ouma-kun and I and we’ll also let the audience vote on who survives!” He smirked, stepping closer to Kokichi, taking delight in the brief flicker of fear in his eyes. “They voted for you to survive once, shall we see if they’ll do it again~?”
He reached out, placing a hand against Kokichi’s cheek letting out a small chuckle as the touch starved teen shuddered and slapped it away. “Either way, someone’s blood will be split.” Wiping his drool away, he sighed happily. “It’ll be beautiful. I can’t wait!” Spinning around, he threw his arms out as the voting screens flickered to life. “Go ahead my dearest friends! Vote! Who will it be? Kokichi or me?”
He grinned over his shoulder at the leader, madness dancing in his eyes.
“Don’t forget, all votes are final~”

What would have happened in Future Foundation Arc....
Welp, since we are restarting and kicking this canon to the boot. I feel it's only fair to let you all know what exactly would have happened here.
So first off, as for the attack on Jabberwock Island is concerned, our guys would have gone through quite the onslaught. From every Monokuma type, to fighting three more of those JUNK-0 bots that Komaru, Touko, and Kebi fought before, to even a giant Junk Monokuma. It would have been pretty hairy, and not everyone would have left unscathed, or even alive!
That's right, along with Klaus; Ginji, Heisuke, Rikiya, Vincent, and Nikolai would have perished in the battle. And another point of interest is that Hiyoko would have shielded Saki from an incoming attack.
-----------------------------
Tumblr media
Why...? Why did you do that?!
Tumblr media
Nnggh.... You may not...care about my life...r-rightfully so... B-But I... still care....about yours...
Tumblr media
B-Besides...I'm your meat shield....remember...?
Tumblr media
..........
-----------------------------------------
Saki potentially learning that maybe....just maybe there is a truth to this Remnants reformation thing they're all talking about. She would also return the favor for Hiyoko later on.
In any case, Yasufumi would still be working on Chiaki's body, while it wouldn't be ready yet, he would use some of the bots and drones Kazuichi left behind. Cyber Anon and dtgxg! Yeah it would have finally happened!
In the end, Chiaki with her new robot body would have finally stopped the giant Junk Monokuma with a blast from her arm cannon. Her Ultimate Attack, I hereby dub...."Love Love Cannon!"
Well with that side out of the way, we return to our Ultra Despair Group(working title), as they have their final battle with Monaca. Of course through this Monaca goes on her whole evil monolouge, as final bosses do. Yada yada yada. And then she goes for Kebi.
Monaca tries to get on his good side, claiming she was "looking for him everywhere", and she's "sooooo happy he found her!" Everyone else sees through this ploy, but Monaca simply tosses them to the side and awaits Kebi's answer....
----------------------------------
Tumblr media
No.
Tumblr media
....What did you just fucking say....?
Tumblr media
No. Komawu Naegi, master.
Tumblr media
You, are enemy.
Tumblr media
Kebi....my boy....
Tumblr media
How dare you.....! How DARE YOU!?
Tumblr media
I MADE YOU! I OWN YOU! LISTEN HERE, YOU TRASH FEEDING PILE OF SCRAP! I AM YOUR CREATOR! THIS WORLD'S NEW EMPRESS OF DESPAIR! AND YOU WILL DO WHAT I SAY-
Tumblr media
Toh!
Tumblr media
AAAACK! MY EYE! MY EYEEEEE! AUGH, MY FREAKING EYE!!!
------------------------------------
Cue boss fight! Monaca attacks with her new Mage Robot, during the fight Monaca destorys Komaru's hacking gun, which then Kebi would then eat the pieces of transforming his shape to look like Komaru now and can fire truth bullets just like the Hacking Gun could.
As the robot goes down, Monaca pulls one last surprise on everyone and attempts to squash them all with dozens of hundreds of Monokumas popping in from the floor.
And to be honest, this kind of goes akin to the Spongebob movie, where everyone claims Monaca cheated. Except here, Monaca takes it kind of personal. Throwing a temper tantrum so massive she ends up destroying all her robots, and the roof to her castle.
The heroes are fine, of course.
Monaca gets sick of this battle if everyone else is just going to be "sore losers" about it and claimed she cheated. So she leaves. Again. Off to space she goes!
Back with Hajime and Makoto's group stuck at FF HQ. Komaru and co. manage to contact them, but going to Kyoko's group for a second here, it did just pass another Time Limit, and our unlucky victim isssss......
-----------------------------------
Tumblr media
-------------------------------------
Yup! Yasuhiro would have died! Tragic!
Now I will admit, out of all the characters from THH, Hiro was not my favorite. Maybe even my least favorite. But I didn't kill him off because I don't like him, I swear! It was the best option out of what I had to pick.
You see, for the longest time, I was hung if I should kill Koichi or Ryota. And with those two, I felt like I would be missing out on potential interactions no matter who I selected, and then I remembered.
"Oh wait, Hiro's in this one too! I can just kill him!"
Problem solved. ........I'm still sorry.
Well anyway, Kyoko would have investigated his death, and back to Hajime and Makoto still finishing up their conversation with Komaru before getting interrupted and destroying Gekkogandroid, by our three favorite antagonists: Kyosuke, Juzo, and Sonosuke.
A fight would have taken place to escape from them and they would have ran into Seiko, slipping up that she did meet the Remnants before. Kyosuke would then tell her she can be forgiven if she were to join his side now in killing them, or else he would be "very dissapointed". Calling back to her flashback sometime ago.
Seiko, of course, would have turned around, told the main crew to run, eat her monster-form-turning pills and go to town on the three dickheads.
Later, after a good tussle, Seiko would have tried talk to Kyosuke, saying they don't have to fight, they can work together with everyone, even the Remnants. Kyosuke takes her hand, and the two embrace..........before Kyosuke stabs her in the chest with his sword takes her keycard, and essentially leaves her to die. He leaves, and Sonosuke follows him, Juzo also goes but is extremely wary looking at what his friend's become...
Back at Towa City, Komaru is trying to contact Makoto again but with the Gekkogandroid out, it's no use. And they've got bigger things to worry about such as Haiji and some his troops making an appearance! Haiji heard the big commotion going up on top and came with three of the resistance members from Rain Code; Iruka, Icardi, and Servan. If you know, you know.
The plan initially was for Kurumi to take Miaya and the Warriors and sneak out behind them, but that didn't work. The adults want to kill them children, and Komaru clearly ain't about to let that happen. So you know what happens, that's right, another fight!
Syo takes care of two of the Resistance crew easily, and by take care of them I mean, break their weapons and scare them into running away. Miaya tries to protect the children and then learns of Monaca's last "gift" to her. Her wheelchair moves, and changes shape so that she can stand up! Kind of like how the Gekkogandroid changed into a battle mode in DR3 when it fought Kyosuke. Then Miaya sends that last adult on their merry way.
How's Komaru faring in this all this? Poorly. Even with Kebi's help, Komaru is struggling against Haiji! She demands that everyone leave her, but Kotoko still wants to help. Kotoko goes back and fires her last few.....denture shots(?) before Haiji attempts to go for her now. Komaru rallies all her remaining strength to get up, and push Haiji away with all her might! .....Where to, you ask? Oh, nowhere special, just over the castle side.
.....
...........
...................!!!!!!
Finally realizing this, Komaru leans over and looks down with everyone to see....yup, Haiji died. And I'm sure this act of taking another life would have not send into a huge anxiety attack and would in no way be the spark that leads to a dark spiral sometime in the later down the line for Komaru.

Tumblr media
---------------------------------------------
See, she fine guys. Tooooootally fine. ..........ANYWHO!
Back at FF HQ, Hajime and his group stumble across Chisa's body and search that area for a bit. Kyoko contacts them informing them about Yasuhiro's death, which shakes up Hina and Makoto quite a bit. They all agree to meet up and discuss what they found, putting all the pieces together reveals that they are in an identical shaped building, underneath the actual FF HQ, and the mastermind that orchestrated this entire game issssss.....Chisa Yukizome.
Flashing-back for a brief moment, back when Tengan bailed Miaya out of Kyosuke's interrogation, it's revealed that he never had a appointment to see her and it was just to help Miaya escape. Unfortunately, as the two take the elevator down, Miaya slips up about her involvement with Makoto taking and hiding with the Remnants. Miaya is prepared for punishment, but Tengan just lets it go, says he doesn't mind. Tengan is more in favor of Makoto's outlook and Kyosuke's steel grip mentality on the FF isn't the way to do things. In his remaining time left on this earth and in the foundation, he'll still protect everyone.
As the two exit and go their separate ways, who should show her face but Chisa! Chisa wheels Miaya away, literally, chatting about the past and the trial, and stuff, and then knocks her out. Chisa would then take Miaya to Towa City and to Monaca's base to strike a deal. Chisa gives Monaca a way into the Foundation to personally take it down from the inside, and a chance to see Makoto Naegi up close. What does Chisa get out of this? Oh, nothing special; all she wants is to partake in creating a future that will permanently decide the battle between Hope and Despair. And so, they work together, and the killing game was set.
Back to present, everyone is in disbelief that the mastermind they were looking for was Chisa. But one man knew, Hajime. He's been struggling with accepting the truth all this time and what could come of it. But his friends are there to support him no matter what, and are willing to stand by his side no matter what. There's also a moment in which pieces the information of the despair videos to Ryota, and that boy is a shaking mess at the whole thing. He confesses and admits his involvement with helping Junko essentially create the Remnants of Despair, and how Chisa has been blackmailing him, threatening him, and on his case if he were to ever spill the beans about it. They forgive him, he's in the clear for now, as the last time limit takes place.
The victim this time isssssss.......
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
-----------------------------------------
Sonosuke. The two lovers couldn't escape their fate. So little warning for disturbing description on how he died and his body looked....
So when Sonosuke went elsewhere and was the closest to the monitor, and it played the despair video. Sonosuke saw Ruruka telling him to join her, she misses him and she's so lonely without her. Sonosuke proves how much he loves her....by literally stabbing himself in the chest over and over, and ribbing his own heart out to give it to her. His body is slumped against the wall, blood everywhere around him, and his heart, out of his body, holding in in his hand....
......Yeah.... Anyways.
Kyosuke calls Makoto and Hajime out to face him, and they do so. The rest of the survivors of DR2 go with them while everyone else goes with Kyoko to find the last keycard. Makoto and Hajime's group stumble across Sonosuke's body and run into. Initially i had the DR2 survivors fight Juzo....but I scrapped it. Here instead, he just lets Makoto and Hajime through, his conflicting feelings about Kyosuke getting the better of him and now he knows his friend needs to be stopped. He just hangs back with the DR survivors and have a nice little chat.
Makoto and Hajime head to see Kyosuke and tell him what they've learned, and Kyosuke.....already knows this. Yup. He knew thw whole time that Chisa was behind this, ever since she died he pieced it together. Our protags are confused, if he knows why are still fighting? Why is still hunting the Makoto and the Remnants like they're the ones to blame? And Kyosuke responds with how it's the Despairs' fault she was turned that way. His resolve was to destroy despair no matter the cost, and it turned out that a Despair was right by his side for a while now. Despair took Chisa away from him, so he won't give up in his resolve to honor and avenge Chisa's original state. Oh quick note, when Kyosuke's crew destroyed the Gekkogandroid, thety found a little tablet that listed everyone's NG Code and how it could change them. So Kyosuke changed his and Hajime's to, "Never give in" and "Using your talents" respectively. So Hajime can talk in this last portion here. And the final battle begins!
It is of course an uphill fight with Kyosuke, no longer limited in his movements, hunts the pair of protags down. Makoto still doesn't want to fight Kyosuke as even now he still views him as a friend and ally, but Hajime gets him out of it telling him that he needs him. Their friends are back there waiting for them to finish this, and so they do so together. It's more of them making traps and Kyosuke bypassing them all. It comes to a pitch when Kyosuke is about to kill Makoto, and Hjaime can't move on his own. Izuru then tells Hajime to, in short; get the hell up, stop doubting himself, and kick that white haired, one eyed bastard's ass! So Hajime zooms over to protect Makoto from the slash. A sound goes off as is bracelet let out poison....by Hajime is fine. When he moved his arm to block the attack, the sword hit Hajime's bangle and it broke off, freeing Hajime now from his own limts. Kyosuke tries to swing again in his rage, buuuuuuut.....Hajime catches it.
------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
I am so sick.....of hearing you talk....over and over again with your bullshit. And never listening to anyone.
Tumblr media
So listen now. My name....isn't Izuru Kamukura....
Tumblr media
My....name....!
Tumblr media
Is Hajime....HINATA!
----------------------------------------------
And then Hajime proceeded to kick Kyosuke's ass up and down the HQ. I'm serious, pure catharsis, if you can imagine it. Finally working together with Izuru, while not killing him, is making really damn sure it hurts. And hurt it does.
After Hajime is done beating Kyosuke up for a good minute, he still reaches out his hand, asking if he got all of it out of his system. He could see that Kyosuke was fighting internally too, fighting to justify his outlook and couldn't admit to the truth that he failed to see his lover change. Kyosuke still admits he can't quit, but Hajime tells him that he broke his bangle off in the fight, so it's truly over for both of them. Meanwhile, Kyoko's group manages to find the last keycard, and as such, a video plays on all the monitors revealing Chisa explain her entire plan.
After getting brainwashed by Junko, Chisa also helped in spreading despair from within Future Foundation, helping her students one last time as her teacher. But overtime, she felt she didn't need to as the Foundation change itself. Lots of distrust and infighting that she didn't cause, and more of a result of Kyosuke trying to keep a tight grip on everyone. His hope filled messages were more invoking fear into everyone than determination. It was like FF was spreading despair, that's not fair. That was her job! And then Makoto defeated Junko turning the tide into hope's favor. Yet still, it didn't feel like a true victory or corner moment. There had to be something she could do to truly this war end properly. So she took a page out of one her student's books, and caused this killing game. To truly eliminate the FF's own despair, they had to confront it at the source, rot it all away in this killing game, and then hope could shine through! And it seems to have worked.....she guesses. She couldn't tell who made it to the end, she was a prerecorded message after all.
She leaves everyone saying she truly did care for her co-workers, and that it was great to see her students again one last time, and hopes...from the bottom of her despair filled heart....that this future could truly be a great one for them all.....and the video ends.
Koichi does a little math and realize, they're one keycard short, but the video that played said they had them all, so who has the last one? ......Seiko!
Yup, she's alive! It was a fake out, I fooled you! In this and in canon, Kyosuke can't kill people for shit. Seiko's alive and well, perfectly fine, she's-
-----------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
-----------------------------------------------
.......not all there. But she's alive at least.
When Kyosuke left her initially, it was close to the time limit, and so Seiko crawled herself to get a knife, and chopped her own hand off. When she was on her own for a while, she found a scanner but couldn't get the keycard because her other hand had the bangle for it. So she held onto all this time. And is rightfully angry at Kyosuke for trying to kill her and leave her! She's done with him now. Absolutely done. Good on you, Seiko.
So everyone hops in that elevator and leaves for the surface. They meet everyone who arrived to try and get them out like Byakuya, Tenten, and many soldiers and staff. And even the ones that were on Jabberwock Island get rescued and brought over. There's some vute little reunions. Sonia hugging Gundam and the Generals, Akane running into Nekomaru's big arms, Mahiru glad Kazuichi's safe, Hajime surprised to see Chiaki as a robot, and Fuyuhiko seeing how injured Peko was in the fight and gets so upset asking who did this to her, before Peko shuts him up with a kiss. The Ultimate Elite Task Force, report to Kyosuke, and I imagine some of them get rightfully angry with him at this. And then of course, Kyoko has to deliever the news to Hiroko and Kanon....that Yasuhiro isnn't coming back. And Kanon takes this...............preeeeeeettty well...by y'know, punching Kyoko in the face.
-----------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Un......FUCKING.....believable.... I risk MY life....to save these assholes you all care about. And you couldn't even do the same....to the one person....I care about? Some Foundation YOU ARE....! It's a goddamn joke!
Tumblr media
Kanon-
Tumblr media
This! This is what I'm talking about! Why the fuck, is it always me taking the hits?! Huh?! Why are you still alive? Why is he still alive?! Why are they still alive, huh?! WHY NOT SOMEONE ELSE?!
Tumblr media
Kanon-
Tumblr media
YOU ALL DON'T CARE! YOU NEVER CARED! NOT ABOUT ME, NOT ABOUT HIM! YOU'RE ALL SELFISH ASSHOLES!
Tumblr media
KAN-KAN!
Tumblr media
WHAAAAAAT??!!!
Tumblr media
.....He's gone. ....And he's never coming back....
Tumblr media
.........it's not fair........ It's not fair....... It's not faaiiiirrrrr!
*Kanon holds Hiroko tightly, and cries loudly into her arms*
Kanon: It's not fair! It's not fair! It's not fair! It's not fair! It's noooooooot faaaaaaiiiiirrrrrrrr!!!!! WAAAAAAHHHHH!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
---------------------------------------------------
A week passes, and we have an actual trial for the Remnants, and what's next for FF as a whole. Tenten is running it because she was out of all that bullshit that went on in HQ. The Remnants are given an opportunity to work at Future Foundation to help undo the damage they've done to world. I say given, but it was either this or leave them on the Jabberwock Island forever away from the public eye, and no surprise Hajime takes the first option. Komaru and Touko are left to care for the Warriors of Hope after they too helped them in their own mission. Kyosuke, as in the Vice Chairman is made next in line by asscoiation....but quits before he gets the chance.
That killing game made him realize that he's not needed with them all, that he's not ready to lead the world into hope. The job is then past to Koichi, but he refuses as steps down as a Branch Head, but not before recommending Kyoko take it instead. It's highly irregular, but no one else takes the spot, and so, Kyoko Kirigiri is now the new Chairwoman of Future Foundation. Juzo also quits to go with Kyosuke, and Ryota steps down from his position as well.
The arc ends with Makoto and his remaining friends tearing down Hope's Peak and the Remnants making gravestone for all that died at Hope's Peak. The ones that died during the Killing Game, Natsumi, Sato, and the members of the Reserve Course. The future looks bright for Hajime and friends as he looks up into the skies and smiles.

Okay, so here's a little thing I noticed. Not sure if others have noticed this too but, hey! Why not spread the good word. Also, this thought contains spoiler talk as well so heads up if you wanna avoid those! Will warn when it happens. Ahem. Here is a sprite of Aoi I just snatched for demonstration.
Tumblr media
Here she is closer. Can you see it?
Tumblr media
It's the school emblem! Or like, that part of it that's in Monokuma's eye! Kinda forgot what it's meant to actually be on the emblem itself ngl. Like.. is it am abstract wing??? Not sure. I shrug like Aoi.
Tumblr media
Here is a closer pic of her shorts and the school emblem as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are other sprites of her too which shows that it's not just a one sprite deal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This doesn't seem like much bit it also got me thinking. This is where the spoilers come in so run while you can!!
First of all, during the tragedy and the brain wiping of the students and their memories of previously being in the school, this would mean that she had these on, right? Right before shit hit the fan? Like, when Junko did her junking around and all, Aoi would have had this get up on during that. Or, maybe not. Perhaps there is a chance that Junko put her in different clothes? Like, she intentionally picked out these shorts for Aoi as some elaborate trolling method and planted them their on her person. And, maybe she'd know that the chances of them questioning and noticing this is low but, she did it anyway for her own amusement. Also, if Junko DID redress them all before the killing game, she was really going all out with this. Very conniving of her. Maybe it was to make sure it convincing that they had never been at Hopes Peak and feed into that lie. Something along those lines. Also messed up too. Wonder if she did it herself or had Mukuro do it though... Not sure Also, now I'm curious what tools she used for memory wiping everyone though that's another question. Not sure if I'd wanna know anyway! Know for a fact that Kyoko took the longest though with her being the Ultimate Detective and her dad being the headmaster of the whole dang school! Poor Kyoko. Or... hmmm. What is the likely hood that these shorts are from the school and she got them while being IN the school itself pre-tragedy era or like... did she preorder them or something? Could a student preorder clothes from Hopes Peak High School??? Or did Aoi wear this outfit on her way to Hopes Peak or did she have MOST of the outfit on and the "Junko planted the Hopes Peak shorts on" theory happened at the same time? Or, ooh! Maybe Junko used some. She may be the Ultimate Despair and the Ultimate Analyst (think that was in Danganronpa Zero manga??) but maybe she was able apply those skills into designing shorts that perfectly matched the ones Aoi wore to school pre-tragedy but JUST with that added emblem on it to troll? So many questions! This really does makes me think. Like, imagine in an alternate timeline. Could this be evidence of some sort of how they all used to be in this school? Like, when discover that they all used to go to Hopes Peak and that they had their memories wiped, could someone be like "Hey! This is all mad and crazy and all but look at Aoi's shorts" or something? Does that make sense? Maybe? Makes me wonder too. If Kyoko was on her A-game and not struggling with the fact that she got hit the hardest with her memory loss, would she notice this detail on Aoi's shorts or like, how long would it take her to notice? I'm not a detective and I saw this after all! Again, so many questions of mine! I swear though. I dunno how much this makes sense. Though, this small detail on Aoi's sprites kept coming back to me and I have finally figured out how to word it all!

Thought about a theme or motif or something... I don't think there's enough here to fully develop it.
Something about the forces of despair using personas to enact the parts of themselves that they are unable to express in their day to day lives.
As Monokuma, Junko gets to be ugly, perverse, and annoying in a way she can't be as the beautiful and popular Junk Enoshima.
As Junko, Mukuro gets to be confident, vivacious and sort of normal in a way.
And perhaps the same holds true for Izuru...

Hey Divine, She’s here.

I heard...Junko Enoshima is back?

Just as the Doctor predicted. Looks like she used Project Lazarus after all.
Tumblr media
Hah...I figured...Did the evacuation go well on your end?
Tumblr media
Yeah. I managed to get my template and his friends to the safe zone. They should be outside the factory by now.
Tumblr media
In that case, we should gather everybody up. Discuss what to do next-

Another Ghost AU fic, and the second part of "Beginning of the End"
Warning: Jesus christ this fic ended up long.
When he finally arrived at the dinning room, he barely acknowledged Aoi's presence on the room, his mind still trying to wrap up what Utsuro had just told him seconds ago.
The mastermind had stolen two years worth of their memories, their lives, from them, all in the name of their twisted 'game' of despair.
When he heard Utsuro say that, he couldn't help but to think back to what Hifumi told them in his dying breaths, after Cele-Taeko broke his skull in her desperate attempt to make the perfect murder and get out of this building of death.
That he "Met them before he met them".
Now, with this new information that Utsuro gave him, he couldn't help but to think if Hifumi, thanks to his fatal injuries, was able to recover those memories the mastermind stole from them, and tried to use his last moments of life to give them this crucial revelation.
Only for them to dismiss them as the ramblings of a dying boy.
A shake on his shoulders brought him back to reality, the first thing he saw was the face of a very worried Aoi, who was asking him if he was ok, right in front of him.
He was able to assuage her worries by telling her an half-truth, only telling her about how he spent the whole previous day knocked-out cold by a illness that, at this point, was completely gone.
She then told him that she, with the rest of their classmates, tried to call him after they found something the night before.
And that the rest of their classmates were on the gym, with that mysterious thing they found out.
After grabbing half of the food that Aoi had grabbed for everyone, he started his walk towards the gym, but not before he turned around to look at Utsuro, and asking him if what Aoi told him was correct.
The ghost nodded, answering his question without a word.
Once he arrived to the gym, he immediately crossed the doors, only to find his classmates, besides Kyoko, in a circle, surrounding something that had been left behind on the room's floor.
And that something was a broken-down Monokuma.
At his shock at seeing the marionette used by their tormentor torn apart like that, Byakuya told him about how, the previous night, he found the inactive 'bot on the room, and, after making sure that it wasn't going to reactivate, he called everyone else and started to dismantle it, to know how it works.
It was clear that the only reason they were able to do that was because the mastermind was too distracted with trying to kill him last night, and then run away from Kyoko, to keep an eye on everyone else in the building, giving an opportunity to his classmates to break down their toys.
Once the last pieces of the 'bot were ripped apart, and it was left a useless piece of junk, Byakuya then suggested to go to the headmaster's room, to see of there was something there that could help them with finding out the mastermind's identity.
Only to find the door locked.
It was probable that, after Sakura broke the lock, and Kyoko stole that key she found in that room, the mastermind angrily put a new lock to discourage them from investigating that room.
But they had already come so far, and they weren't going to let a simple lock stop their investigation, so he suggested to break the lock again with the pickaxe he found on the garden's shed on the fifth floor.
At his suggestion, Byakuya sent Toko to retrieve the tool, but, when she came back, Syo was the one in control of the body.
And she told them that she had found a corpse in the room.
After hearing that, they all ran to the garden, where, just like Syo said, a body was lying just there.
A body that was wearing some familiar garments.
The person who tried to kill him yesterday, the mastermind, was dead right in front of his eyes.
But, like if he had read his thoughts, Utsuro put one of his hands over his shoulder, glaring the stabbed body in suspicion "That body isn't the mastermind's"
At hearing that, alongside Aoi's comment that the victim had to be a girl, he couldn't help but to think if the body was Kyoko's, killed by the mastermind at some point after she left his room, only for Utsuro to squeeze his shoulder, bringing him back to reality, before he talked again:
"And she isn't a dead Kyoko Kirigiri either"
He couldn't help but to be surprised with how Utsuro was able to deduce all that from just a glance, but he wasn't able to ask him, because Syo, against Byakuya's orders, launched herself to unmask the body, in the process setting off a bomb, that sent everyone flying, and burned the entire upper part of the body.
He was able to put out the fire burning the body with a bucket of water that Byakuya shoved on his arms, but, at this point, the body had been left utterly unrecognizable, her entire face left a charred mess.
It was clear that, whoever killed her, they didn't wanted them to recognize her.
While the rest of his classmates tried to deduce the identity of the body in front of them, he couldn't help but to look at it. The victim was clearly a girl, and the only girls that weren't now present with them were Kyoko and the mysterious 16th student, but at the same time Utsuro had told him that she wasn't either the mastermind nor Kyoko, so, who was she?
But, before he could think of any other possibility for the victim's identity, Utsuro's voice cut through his thoughts, making him turn to look at him in confusion.
"The victim is Mukuro Ikusaba"
He couldn't help but to be flabbergasted at the ghost's comment, that he felt it was contradicting what he had told him seconds before, driving him to whisper-scream a question back to him "Wait, Ikusaba? But, you just said that the body isn't the mastermind's..."
"I've never said the Mukuro Ikusaba was the mastermind, that's just a theory that Kyoko Kirigiri had, and you believed like a gospel"
Utsuro's blunt answer left him even more confused than before.
Mukuro... wasn't the mastermind?
But she was wearing the same clothes that the mastermind was wearing when they tried to kill him?
Did... did the mastermind killed her and then disguised her as themselves to trick them into believing that they were dead?
Does this means that the mastermind is still alive somewhere?
This was too much...
"Naegi, would you care to tell us what are you babbling about?"
Byakuya's voice immediately dragged him back to reality, reminding him that his classmates were now right at his side, also looking at Mukuro's corpse.
And they were looking at him like he was crazy.
"O-oh, sorry, it's just that... I just remembered something Kirigiri told me two days ago, about a 16th student hiding on the school, that it's known as the 'Ultimate Despair'"
At the surprised reaction of his classmates, he told them everything that Kyoko told him that day: About Mukuro Ikusaba, and how she spent the entire killing game until now hidden in the school, waiting for the moment to strike.
They immediately jumped to the conclusion, just like Kyoko did, that Mukuro had to be the mastermind behind the killing game, and he let them believe that for the moment.
After all, he not only didn't had any proof against that theory besides Utsuro's words, he still couldn't believe what the ghost had told him about Mukuro and the mastermind being two different people.
After Toko confirmed that she was still alive, he decided to take a closer look at the body, only to find a key thrown at the side of the burnt remains.
Clearly, it wasn't the key that Kyoko stole from the mastermind, but, just like Byakuya pointed to him, it could open any of the locked doors strewn on the building, so he was sent to find the door whose that key would open.
Eventually finding it on the data center.
---
Once Makoto opened the lock on the data center on the 4th floor, he ran back to the garden, to tell the rest of class 78 his findings, moving everyone to investigate the room.
And, once Makoto finally opened the door, it became clear to everyone that this room was the one that Junko was using to keep watch of everything that was going on inside the killing game.
The class 78's investigation of the room was mainly a bore for him, who spent the entire period of time just hovering close to Makoto, and watching him take a closer look at everything inside the room, the only thing that sparked his curiosity being the TV that was right on the middle of the room.
A TV that, once Yasuhiro turned it on, it showed a live feed of the room they were right now, an image that never changed no matter how many times they tried to change channels.
It looked like that Junko, somehow, had hacked all the airwaves with the purpose of broadcasting the killing game to the biggest amount of people she could, all in the name of spreading despair.
Something that she, through one of her Monokuma robots, confirmed to her remaining classmates, before she gave them a Monokuma File about Mukuro's corpse, and retired the Monokuma out of the room.
It was clear that this entire "murder" was all a sham made by Junko, with the purpose of keeping the killing game going, no matter how, after Sakura's death made everyone band together and ruined her fun.
Which meant that, with this "murder" being a complete forgery, the True Ultimate Despair was going to kill an innocent for the murder that she herself had committed.
And he had the feeling that either Makoto or Kyoko were going to become her scapegoats.
After all, he did that same thing once before.
When he sent Yamato and Mikako to their deaths.
Because they knew too much.
Just like Kyoko and Makoto.
Around a minute had went by since Junko made her survival known, and warned the remnants of her class about the class trial, before Makoto and his classmates started to process what Junko had told them, and went back to investigate that sham of a "murder case".
But now, completely sure that Kyoko was the victim.
Well, everyone except Makoto.
While the rest of his classmates left the data center, the luckster stood behind in the room, hugging the file tightly, before he talked to him:
"Well Utsuro, y-you were right about Ikusaba and the mastermind not being the same person..." He then turned around to look at him "But, how were you able to notice that the body wasn't Kirigiri's from so far away? She was completely covered head to toe, and the explosion has left her face unrecognizable"
"Her boots" He answered, a bit too fast to comfort "Her boots weren't covered, so I was able to notice that they looked different"
Letting out an appreciative "Ohh" at his explanation, Makoto then opened the file, moving his head to the side for him, to let him look at it too, an invitation he quickly accepted, letting his head rest on the nook of his neck, an act that made Makoto shake a little, before he composed himself and went back to the file "I really didn't noticed that, I should go and take a better look at it when we go back to the garden, but now, it would be better to take a look at the Monokuma File, to see how she was killed..."
From the first line on the file, where the victim was listed as 'unidentified' because of the explosion, it became clear to his eyes that Junko had filled it with fake data, in a attempt to hide the truth from Makoto and the others, something that became even more obvious once he read that Mukuro's cause of death had been listed as the knife that was stabbed on her body when they found it on the garden, derisively referring to her true fatal injuries as unimportant.
All these lies and truth-twisting made a growl escape his lips, a growl that Makoto ended up hearing "Hey, Utsuro, it's something wrong?"
"N-no, it's just..." He couldn't help but to a hand over his eyes, feeling an headache starting to form, before he took a breath and continued with what he was going to say "It's just that this entire file is a sham"
"Wh-what? Why are you saying that?" Makoto was now looking at him in confusion, having stepped away a bit from him, to look at him without straining his neck "The Monokuma Files have been pretty spot-on on the previous murders, except for, maybe, leaving some information vague, so, why do you think that the information on this one is a sham?"
"Because I'm sure that... the knife wasn't the cause of her death" Now that he had catched his attention, he continued his explanation "When you and your classmates were looking at the data center key, I noticed that, even if her body had been burned to a crisp by that explosion, her injuries had been pretty well conserved. And the ground under her body could be cleary seen through those so-called 'old wounds'..."
"Wait, you could see the ground under her body through her wounds?"
"Yeah, and I'm pretty sure that no one would be able to survive such kind of injury..."
"Wait..." Makoto closed, pretty forcefully, the file, before he readjusted his posture to look at him right to his eyes "Are you implying that Ikusaba died before even Kirigiri knew about her?"
"Yes" Was his only answer.
"But, if it's that true, then, from where the fresh blood that was covering the knife wound came from?"
He let out a sigh, trying to fight the urge to yell at him about how dense he sometimes could be, before answering him "Do you remember the trick that Hifumi Yamada used to fake his death as part of Takeo Yasuhiro's plan? The mastermind just did the same thing with Mukuro Ikusaba's body"
"Oh..." The luckster placed a hand under his chin, deep in thought, before he continued "Oh, yeah, now that I think about it more throughout, the knife had supposedly stabbed through her entire body, front to back, but, I clearly remember that, before the explosion happened, there wasn't any blood underneath her, so the blood having been put after-"
But, before he could finish, his eyes then widened, whipping his head to look right at him "Wait, do you also think that the mastermind killed her?"
"Well, yeah. After all, all of you have alibis for the crime: You were unconscious in your room, Kyoko Kirigiri stayed at your side 'till morning, and the rest of your classmates spent the night dismantling that Monokuma in the gym" He did a little shrug, before looking at him and continuing "So, the only person who could have done this is the mastermind"
Makoto did an affirmative noise, while nodding, before he started to walk towards the room's door, already ready to leave and go back to the garden.
After all, it didn't mattered that this case was a sham, an investigation was still needed for Makoto and his friends to know the truth behind it.
And for them to finally stop Junko once it for all.
---
When he went back from the data center to the garden, the first thing he did was to take a good look at the victim's boots, that were peeking out from the tattered coat, both of them having survived the explosion that destroyed Mukuro's body relatively intact thanks to the explosion only mangling the upper part of her body.
Boots that, just like Utsuro said, clearly weren't Kyoko's, but were still familiar to him all the same.
Shaking that weird sense of familiarity that he had at seeing her boots away, he then took a look at the two objects that were surrounding the body:
The knife that the mastermind used to stab Mukuro's body, that, it looks like, was sent flying out of her body by the force of the explosion.
And the remains of something that bore a striking resemblance to the bomb that Yasuhiro took out of the Monokuma that the others dismantled last night.
Maybe, because it was that same bomb.
He should check out the gym after he's done with investigating the garden, to see if he was right with this train of thought, he decided before taking a better look at Mukuro's body.
Once he was close enough to her body, he noticed that its top half was wet, which made sense, seeing how, after it exploded, that part of her body ended up bursting into flames, and he had to put it out with a bucket of water, leaving behind the mangled body right in front of him.
Putting the state of her body on the back of his mind, he tried to find more clues somewhere on her body, something he eventually found on her right hand, that had survived the explosion relatively unscathed:
Red fake nails, some of them having been blown away from her fingers by the explosion.
And a half-burned tattoo of some kind of canine.
He showed the tattoo to Utsuro, to see if he knew something about it.
"I think I've seen that symbol before. It's... not good..." Was his only answer.
Once he had finished with looking at the body, he then went to talk to his classmates, to see if they had found anything while he was talking to Utsuro on the data center.
Sadly, he chose to talk with Byakuya first.
The heir was completely sure that he had to be the murderer, thanks to the fact that his alibi couldn't be proven, but at least he told him that, when he was searching for the rest of their classmates after he found the inactive Monokuma in the gym last night, he didn't saw Mukuro's corpse when he went to the garden to get Yasuhiro.
Which meant that, the mastermind had to set up the fake crime scene at some point last night, after the two boys left to the gym.
Aoi, meanwhile, looked a bit nervous, nerves that she explained as her just trying to remember how the body looked like before the explosion, something that she was eventually able to do after a short chat with him.
And then there was Toko, who was trying not to look at the body, not wanting Syo to take control again.
He let himself lean against the chicken coop, feeling completely exhausted even though he had barely found anything, when he noticed something strange about it.
There was one chicken less than yesterday.
Yasuhiro had noticed it too, making him start to ramble about how this was going to have a negative impact on the structure of the universe, making him roll his eyes, but he still felt that this could be important with solving this case, so he decided to do, at least, a mental note about it.
But, at the feeling of being watched, he turned around to the source of that feeling, finding himself face to face with a incredulous Utsuro.
"What?" He couldn't help but to whisper.
"Are you seriously finding a missing bird suspicious?"
"Well, it could be important, so..."
Utsuro only shrugged in answer, before he looked back to Yasuhiro, who had stopped rambling and was now just sitting on the floor, in deep thought.
He couldn't help but to ask him what was wrong.
"It's 11 o'clock right now!" Was his answer.
At his confusion, the fortune-teller told him that he was just thinking about when they first found Mukuro's body, something that got him thinking too.
Like all the previous mornings since they ended up trapped inside this building, he woke up at 7:00, and arrived to the dinning hall around half an hour later.
Then he and Aoi went to the gym, where he met with the others and, a while later, they tried to break into the headmaster's office, for which Byakuya sent Toko to grab the pickaxe he found on the garden's shed, only for Syo to come back and told them about the body.
And he remembers that Byakuya said that it was about to be 9 o'clock when he sent her there, so this meant that Mukuro's body had to have been left at some point in between nighttime and 9:00 am.
Yasuhiro was pretty proud about how he had "helped" him with guessing the possible hour of her "death", but there was something about it that was still bothering him.
If he remembered correctly, the garden's sprinklers were programmed to turn on at 7:30, but the only water on Mukuro's body was the water on the bucket Byakuya gave him to put off the flames consuming it.
Maybe the body was left in the garden after the sprinklers were turned off.
Or, maybe, it was left before, and the mastermind covered the body with something to protect it from the water.
He still wasn't completely sure, but there was still one place on the garden that he still hadn't looked at, a place that could have the answers he was searching for.
The shed.
When he went inside the wooden structure, the first thing that caught his eye was an off-white tarp, that, he noticed, was dry on one side, and extremely wet and dirty on the other.
This, combined with what he knew about the sprinklers, made him think if, maybe, the mastermind used it to cover the body, to make sure the sprinklers didn't got it wet, and then they left it here in the shed before they arrived.
And Utsuro looked like he was thinking the same.
"Hey, Utsuro, you don't think that-?"
But, before he could finish, Utsuro started talking, already aware of what he was going to say "Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the mastermind used this to cover Mukuro Ikusaba's body, and protect it from the water, during the time the sprinklers stayed on, before she went to grab everything she needed to forge a new mystery for the killing game"
It took him a bit, but he noticed how Utsuro had just referred to the mastermind as a 'she', making him turn around to look at him.
Utsuro was looking back at him, face frozen in a panicked expression, and a hand over his mouth, before he slowly uncovered it and talked before he could say anything:
"You didn't heard anything from me"
There was a lot of questions running around his mind, all of them about what he had just said, but he decided to not say anything, and just leave the garden.
Because, from looking at him, Utsuro clearly wasn't comfortable with talking about it.
And because there was still mysteries behind this fake murder he hadn't solved.
---
After he left the garden, he immediately went to the gym, where he confirmed that the Monokuma's bomb had disappeared, probably having been stolen by the mastermind after they left to the headmaster's office, to use it to destroy Mukuro's body, before he went back to the garden.
To get his only way to get inside Kyoko's room.
2 hours had already went by since Mukuro's body was found, and she still hadn't returned from where she had went last night, not even to see what was happening after the body announcement was played, so he couldn't help but to get worried about her safety.
But, with him not knowing where she was besides that she spent the entire night alongside him, his only chance to find her was to investigate her room.
His original plan was to ask Byakuya if he could give him the keys of her room, knowing that she gave them to him when he started to get suspicious of her, and investigate by himself, but he rejected his request, still seeing him as suspicious, before telling him to talk to him latter.
So, after he confirmed that the bomb on the gym had disappeared, he went back to the garden.
To see if Byakuya would now want to open the room for him.
Thankfully, this time Byakuya was slightly more willing to do it, so he followed him to the dormitories, before entering Kyoko's room alongside the Ultimate Heir, once the room had been opened.
Only to find a mostly empty room, the only apparent thing of interest on it being a woodblock key, that he was sure it came from the dojo on the fifth floor.
He immediately took it with him, planning on figuring out what it opens later, only to realize that he didn't knew what else to look in the room, earning himself a reprimand from Byakuya.
But the heir's words made him remember about the envelope that Kyoko gave him before disappearing.
An envelope that she told him to not open unless something happened to her.
He wasn't completely sure what had happened to her, but, with everything surrounding the mystery of Mukuro's body, he felt he had to open it if he wanted to solve this.
When he finally opened it, he found a paper that only said "Under the sheets", so he immediately, and with Byakuya's prodding, he started to pull back the sheets on Kyoko's bed, not really knowing why she decided to leave him that message, when he found a crumbled piece of paper on the bed.
A paper that had all of Mukuro's information.
He couldn't help but to think back to when he was distracting the mastermind from looking at Kyoko those two days ago, and how she rambled about how the mysterious girl stole both that strange key she showed him, and some other thing that she didn't specify.
This paper had to be that second thing.
At Byakuya's urging, he started reading the paper, and, the more he read, the more unbelievable Mukuro's life was for him.
Having been chosen as Hope's Peak Ultimate Soldier, and planned to join them on their class, Mukuro's spent her whole life obsessed with war and battle, to the point that she, ostensibly, joined a group called 'Fenrir' on Europe for three years, before she returned to Japan without any warning.
But, unlike him, Byakuya knew about this 'Fenrir' group, identifying them as a group of mercenaries, but he wasn't able to say much more before Monokuma appeared.
But the mastermind wasn't there to punish them for the stolen page, in fact being more angered at Sakura breaking the lock of the headmaster's room than for that.
She was there to both tell them to tell them that she was hidden inside their group, as one of the 16 students they truly were, and that the truth behind Kyoko's gloves was that she was hiding some truly hideous scars on her hands.
Well, that confirmed that the body couldn't be Kyoko's, because her hands were completely scarless.
And Byakuya wasn't believing the mastermind's implications that Mukuro was the murderer on this "case" either, seeing it as some kind of trap.
Maybe, to make them vote the wrong culprit, and win her own game.
He was about to leave Kyoko's room, and follow Byakuya to the dojo, when Utsuro talked.
"Kyoko Kirigiri isn't the mastermind. None of your still living classmates is the mastermind"
"What?" He stopped right on his tracks, turning around to look at him, and trying to process what the ghost had just said "What do you mean by that?"
"Don't you remember what Ju-err, I mean, the mastermind just told you on Kyoko Kirigiri's room? About how 'she's one of the participants in this killing game'? Like she said, she's one of your classmates, but none of your still living classmates are her in disguise"
"What?" He was sure that his face now had to be scrunched up in a expression of confusion, because he couldn't understand what the hell Utsuro was telling him "T-that doesn't makes sense, Utsuro. She has shown herself to be clearly very much alive, so how could she be one of my dead classmates? Who, I remind you, I saw, we all saw, die right in front of us?"
Utsuro stood quiet for a short moment, before he answered him "Well, what if I told you that she never truly died? What if she tricked all of you into thinking she was killed?"
"She never...?" His eyes widened once he realized what exactly Utsuro was telling to him, before he turned around to where the ghost was floating "Wait, are you saying that you think that the mastermind faked her-?!"
But he wasn't able to finish what he was going to say, thanks to the feeling of a cold, soaked, finger against his lips, with Utsuro, at the same time, moving his other hand to his own mouth in a similar 'shushing' position, before he answered him "I don't just 'think' that she faked her death, I know that she did it, I know that she hid her survival behind a faked death and, in this way, hide behind the scenes to keep the killing game going, after all..."
The ghost stole a glance towards the camera in the hallway and gluped, before he whispered to him "I knew her once"
"Wait, what!?" This time, he whispered back his surprise to him, having noticed the fact that Utsuro was trying to trying to prevent the mastermind from hearing what he was saying through the cameras "B-but how? How did you found-?"
But his words were cut short by Utsuro interrupting him again "I... I can't tell you that now, but..." He was able to hear him take a 'breath', before continuing "Once you finish your search on the dojo, go back to the garden, and take one good look at Mukuro Ikusaba's injuries. You'll understand everything once you do that"
He wasn't sure how Mukuro's injuries could help him with discovering the mastermind's identity, but he nodded at his request anyways.
Because, after all, if they want to stop the mastermind once it for all, the first step would be finding the truth behind how she killed Mukuro.
And finally solve this case.
---
Once Makoto and Byakuya arrived to the dojo, the former immediately opened the locker which the key belonged to, finding a quiver of titanium arrows and a tangle of bloodied tape inside, two objects that the two boys immediately assumed that were connected to the case.
He wasn't that sure of that, however.
But he wasn't able to say anything before Byakuya told Makoto to follow him to the library's archive room, to find more information about the organization Fenrir, something that, he noticed, left the luckster upset.
It was clear that he wanted to go back to look at Mukuro's body, like he had suggested to him, something that, with the fastly shortening investigation time that Junko gave them for this 'case', he wouldn't be able to do if they do this 'detour'.
On the walk there, he stood close to Makoto, who spent a while looking to the floor, deep in thought, before he turned around to look at him "Hey Utsuro, do... do you know anything about this 'Fenrir' group?"
"I... I know some things about them, but not that much"
"Like what?" Makoto asked him.
"Well, if I remember correctly, they're a group from the Middle East, with nigh-superhuman soldiers, that are tasked with secret missions, and can be recognized by a specific tattoo that its members wear on their bodies"
"Wait, tattoo? Does that means that-?"
"Yeah, the tattoo on Mukuro Ikusaba's right hand is that group's symbol"
"Ohh..." Makoto stood quiet for a short while, his mind processing what he had told him, before he continued "So that's why you said that 'it wasn't good' when I showed that tattoo to you earlier..."
"Yeah..." Was his only answer, before silence became the only thing in between them, and the door of the library appeared in front of their eyes.
Makoto crossed them, entering the room and then, the archive inside it, where Byakuya was waiting for him.
Once the heir saw that Makoto had arrived, he took out a file, decorated with Fenrir's insignia, out of the shelves, before starting reading it to the luckster, after showing disappointment on Makoto's lack of knowledge on other languages, thanks to the file being written in french.
Almost everything that was written on the file was just a more extended version of what he had told Makoto, the only thing that surprised him was the mention that the group has been inactive for a while now.
Did they were eliminated by the governments they worked for, like the file said? Or did Mukuro killed them in the name of the Ultimate Despair?
But his questions weren't going to matter anyways, because, after Byakuya finished reading the file, and started to talk with Makoto about the signature tattoos of the group, Junko's announcement for the start of the trials played out through the building, cutting the investigation short, and making everyone stop what they were doing, and making them head towards the elevator to the trial grounds.
He couldn't help but to growl at that, knowing for sure that Junko did it on purpose, to make sure her plans would be successful.
Makoto, meanwhile, just looked upset at the announcement playing now of all moments.
He didn't needed to search for any clue to know why he was so upset, not even when he looked at him, a hand gripping his chest, and started apologizing.
"I'm... sorry, Utsuro. I really wanted to go back, and take another look at Ikusaba's body, but Togami-"
"Look, you don't need to apologize for it. Things just... didn't went how we wanted them to go, but I'm sure you'll be able to solve this case anyways, because..." He sighed, before giving him a small smile "I... trust you"
With his resolve reinvigorated, Makoto accompanied Byakuya to the elevator room, where the rest of his classmates were waiting for them, before they all waited together for Monokuma's arrival.
Only for the bear to not arrive.
The remaining members of class 78 decided to stay on the room, waiting for Monokuma to arrive, only to start getting nervous about it the longer they spent there without him making his presence known, wondering why he hadn't yet arrived to tell them about the trial that was about to start.
It was clear that Junko was waiting for Kyoko to arrive.
And Makoto looked like he was thinking about it too.
Ignoring the feeling of being watched by someone else, he floated close to the luckster, only for the latter to be the one who started their conversation.
"Hey Utsuro, don't you find this strange? About Monokuma still haven't arrived, I mean"
"Yeah, I was thinking about it too. Probably, the mastermind is just distracted with finding out where Kyoko Kirigiri has spent the whole day hiding from her"
"Yeah, it makes sense, but..." With his voice dropping off before he could finish, Makoto's expression became one of worried questioning, an expression he knew exactly what was causing it.
And that was his worry for her.
He wanted to tell him something, that she was probably fine, but that feeling of being watched was still creeping through his spine, a feeling that he couldn't handle anyone, and turned his head towards the source of it.
Only to see Yasuhiro shaking his head, an expression of confused fear on his face.
Since the beginning of killing game, he didn't knew what the hell was wrong with the clairvoyant, every interaction he had with Makoto having sent him mixed signals about if he could see him or not, but, right now, he couldn't get worried about it.
After all, whatever Junko was planning to do with this fake crime was of more importance than that.
Some more time went by after that, until everyone realized that Junko hadn't appeared for ten minutes, the moment which Junko chose to finally make her presence known through a Monokuma, before she started rambling about "not everyone being in the room" to her former classmates.
It was clear that she was irritated about Kyoko's disappearance.
Something that it became more obvious when the detective made her presence finally known again, sending her into another, shorter, ramble about how she was "going to regret" arriving late.
Clearly referring to the fact that, if the trial went like she wanted it to go, either her or Makoto would end up dead.
Meanwhile, the rest of class 78 mainly ignored Junko's words, being only interested on Kyoko's 'miraculous survival', before they started to get on the elevator, now with the knowledge that Kyoko was still alive.
But Makoto didn't went inside the elevator immediately, instead wanting to talk with Kyoko beforehand.
Because he wanted know where she spent the day.
And if she was ok.
She answered him that she spent the day on the second floor of the dormitories, after she was able to, somehow, open the gate separating the two floors, before she assured him that, once she realized that a body had been discovered, she was able to investigate the 'case' for a bit before the 'trial start' announcement played out.
But, before she got on the elevator, she gave him a crumpled piece of burned paper, but not before she told him something that he wasn't able to hear clearly.
After a short while, Makoto followed his classmates to the elevator, whose doors closed down once he got inside, before it activated, dragging the remnants of class 78 towards the now too familiar trial grounds.
The trip to that room went by mainly the same as the previous ones, the only change to the monotony being that Makoto had decided to go to the end of the elevator, laying his back against the wall, before he started to unfold the paper Kyoko had gave him.
Only for Makoto's voice, down to a whisper, made him jump in surprise:
"Kirigiri told me that she found this paper hidden under the coat Ikusaba's body was covered with, and that there was something written on it that she found suspicious, so..."
He had apparently realized that he had been looking rather intensely at the paper, so he told him what Kyoko told him just before, before they both went to read what was written on the now unfolded paper.
Only to find a message that sent a violent shiver through his spine.
"Makoto Naegi is working with the Ultimate Despair"
The luckster immediately closed up the note, looking frazzledly at his classmates, trying to see if they saw him reading the note, before he turned around to him, his expression one of confused horror.
"What does this means!? Why is this saying that I'm working with 'the Ultimate Despair'? And why it was left hidden on Ikusaba's body? Did the mastermind also did this? Utsuro, please answer me!?"
But he just couldn't answer him.
Junko knew he was here, and she knew that he was with Makoto.
Which meant that the entire point of this 'case' was to kill Makoto.
And, if Makoto ends up dying, it would be all his fault.
With the noise of the elevator's doors opening, and Junko's laughter through Monokuma, muddled by the buzzing on his ears, there was only one thing in his mind.
That he has to help Makoto with solving this case.
Because he won't let the alternative happen ever again.
