Little did she know that she was about to find out the prince's true feelings.

Jude and Cardan: netflix and chill

I’m not sure how we ended up here, but I can’t say that I regret it.

Cardan’s head is tucked under my chin, his fingers absentmindedly tracing patterns over the tiny patch of exposed skin at my midriff. His hair smells like morning dew and leaves. I’ve tangled my fingers into his curls, and our legs have become a mess of limbs. 

And where are we? On a couch in Vivi’s apartment with a laptop perched on the coffee table playing The Breakfast Club. Somehow Vivi insisting we needed to have a normal date turned into her giving us the apartment for the night so we could “Netflix and Chill” like normal couples.

Like usual I have no idea what that means, but I let it happen anyway.

The closeness of Cardan makes my skin feel warm, but in a good way. Back home there’s always someone there or something to do and now all I feel is... relaxed.

“This school looks dreadful,” Cardan says, interrupting my thoughts about how cute he looks in a sweatshirt. So mortal.

My eyes flick to the screen instead of him. I have to agree. It does look dreadful. All cement building and fluorescent lighting. It’s hard to believe that’s what my life should’ve been. 

“Can’t say humans don’t know anything about cruel and unusual punishment,” I mumble, but then remember a normal fae punishment is whipping. At least it’d be over faster than detention.

My finger nails have gently started rubbing at Cardan’s scalp, and I hear a noise of content escape his lips. In the reflection on the screen I can see that his eyes have closed. Have we ever held each other like this? I can’t remember. Nothing about our relationship has been anything but intense emotion. Passion. Hatred. Lust. The change is weirdly nice. No harsh words or desperate fingers pulling clothes off. Not that I mind that part.

“Don’t stop, wife,” he whines when my fingers have stopped scratching. His head nudges at my chin a little. I can’t identify the emotion that fills my chest. I’m not sure if I want to.

So I continue, my brain barely registering the movie flicking across the screen. All I hear is Cardan’s soft breathing and feel the softness of his finger tips. Eventually his fingers stop, and I realize it’s because he’s fallen asleep. I do my best to peak at his face without disturbing him.

His lips are barely open, quiet breath escaping. His lashes are as dark as the night sky against his ivory skin. The fake light from the computer makes it sparkle. There’s no makeup or paint or jewelry decorating him. He’s just Cardan, a boy prince. My boy, I realize with a shock. A feeling of warmth spreads through my body as I stare at him. Even in sleep he is stunning. I hope he doesn’t watch me sleep. I’m sure I’m not as pretty.

I settle my cheek atop his head, letting myself be pulled towards tranquil sleep. Just as I’m about to succumb, I hear Cardan’s voice. 

“Jude,” he whispers, still in the trance of unconsciousness. 

It isn’t until I wake up hours later--from probably the best sleep of my life, no matter how uncomfortable the couch was--that I realize he was dreaming of me.
