Shamanic Cannabis

That is not the name of my newest side hustle. However, it could be. Many of you may be aware that among my various weird hobbies, avocations or studies is shamanism. Not your dumbass New Age “shamanism” with its custom $189 sage cleansing smudges but a real study of the practices and in particular the ethnobotany behind those practices.

I got my start in the seventies with the Carlos Castañeda “Don Juan” books. Don Juan was fake but the ethnobotany was real and it sparked my interest which later extended to European, African and Asian shamanic traditions and in particular medicines. Shamans and their female counterparts the herb woman and midwife were the only real doctors until science tried its hand at medicine in the last few thousand years.

One medicine found in every shaman’s kit was cannabis, marijuana weed, or whatever word you kids just came up with yesterday. Why? Well, for one reason it grows EVERYWHERE. That’s why they call it WEED. It does make you euphoric but it also reduces some kinds of pain. Back in the day they had no Ibuprofen. They had weed.

One kind of pain that it is good for is nerve pain like that that comes from diabetic neuropathy. Usually it is tissue that is damaged and the nerve just sends the signal like from a pulled muscle. In neuropathy the nerve itself is damaged and misfiring. It reports agonizing damage but it is all false information.

Cannabis works on this pain, for some not all, on this pain when other painkillers EVEN OPIOIDS don’t. So, having tried edibles and smoking I have concluded the following:

It is an effective (rapid when smoked) “as needed pain reliever”

the “being high” is a side effect which is more annoying than pleasant. I just entertain myself until it wears off. The pain relief and the “high” seem to be unrelated

Smoking is far more economical than consumables though messier.

Primeras imágenes de ‘Perdida’

Descubre las primeras imágenes de Perdida, la nueva serie original de Atresmedia Televisión para el prime time de Antena 3. Se trata de un thriller emocional que narra el viaje de unos padres que harán lo indecible para descubrir lo que ha pasado con su hija. Una trama que se desarrollará entre España y Colombia.

El rodaje de la serie se lleva a cabo íntegramente en exteriores e interiores naturales, contando con más de 120 localizaciones diferentes. Las grabaciones arrancaron el pasado mes de abril en Valencia. Actualmente, el rodaje se ha trasladado hasta el continente americano, donde permanecerá rodando en Colombia hasta final de verano.

Daniel Grao es el protagonista principal de la historia junto con Ana María Orozco, Carolina Lapausa, Fernando Solorzano, Melani Olivares y Verónica Velásques, que encabezan un reparto que superará el centenar de actores, procedentes de España, Colombia, México o Cuba como Jon Arias, Adriana Paz, Luis Miguel Hurtado, Juan Carlos Messier, Pedro Suárez, María Barreto, David Trejos o Mario Bolaños, entre otros.

Una ficción española de ámbito internacional cuyos capítulos tendrán una duración de 50 minutos, tal y como ocurre en todas las nuevas producciones del sello Series Atresmedia.

Perdida está producida por Atresmedia Televisión en colaboración con Big Bang Media (THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO) y ha sido creada por Natxo López, a partir de la idea original de Ruth García y David Oliva.

Sonia Martínez y Alberto Carullo son los productores ejecutivos de ‘Perdida’, mientras que Juanma Manzanares y Natxo López ejercen como coproductores ejecutivos.

La serie está dirigida por Iñaki Peñafiel, David Ulloa y Rafa Montesinos, y ha contado en el desarrollo de guiones con el propio Natxo López, Almudena Ocaña, Aurora Graciá, Carlos de Pando y Mikel Barón.
