Jr. Walker & The All All Stars: Ultimate Collection (1997). All I remembered of this band was their big hit Shotgun, so most of these tracks were new to me. Sax driven r’n’b dance music recorded between 1965-79 with covers of songs like Money (That’s What I Want.) Sexy sax that is perfect stripper music lol. Somewhat similar is Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers: Bustin’ Loose (1979) a go-go band,…

Jagger and Amy Millar HX Jump to Stardom at the CSI 4 World Equestrian Center
The$ 31,500 Speed Challenge CSI4* stole the show this afternoon for the first Fédération Equestre International ( FEI )  , CSI4*/CSI2* week of the 2024 Winter Spectacular Show Series. Amy Millar ( CAN ) rode Team Eye Candy’s Jagger HX ( Ustinov x Bustique ), and top athletes from nine different countries competed against Gregory Bodo ( FRA ) and Pieter Vitse ( BEL ) on the speed track.  ,
Millar was particularly interested in jumping his tracks this week because Gregory Bodo ( FRA ) has been appointed as the co-curriculum designer for the 2024 Paris Olympics.” Part of the reason I came here is to jump]Gregory Bodo‘s ] courses. He has a lot of talent and skill. You walk the program and it appears good, but as the training progresses you learn that there are minor issues all over. That’s what happened to a lot of folks today, according to Millar.  ,
Amy Millar ( CAN ) and Jagger HX
Millar had a positive start to her first week at the World Equestrian Center – Ocala. The pair piloted the 10-year-old Royal Dutch Sport Horse – Dutch Warmblood ( KWPN) gelding through a lightning-fast record and clocked in at an amazing 71.25 hours, nearly four hours ahead of second place to take home the winning name.
For Jagger HX, this was his first appearance in a four-star contest. I’ve owned him for two years with Eye Candy Jumpers ‘ Erica Hatfield. He has been trained and placed where he needs to be by us. He merely turned 10 this month, and he is truly unique. He’s so much fun to journey, it’s really simple for him. After now, I am even more enthusiastic about his upcoming because this is his first ever four-star competition.
A fresh place for Millar, the World Equestrian Center– Ocala, left a lasting effect. It’s amazing, they say. This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I am amazed at how good everyone is. The attention to detail is outstanding, the hotel has stunning hauling, there is a lot of room, and the rubber flooring is ideal for horses. It’s like a special area.
Brin d’Or de Haute Melen Z is a collaboration between Sharn Wordley ( NZL ) and Brin d’Or de Haute Melen Z.
In 74.94 seconds, Sharn Wordley ( NZL ) completed the second-fastest time aboard Della Wordley’s 10-year-old Zangersheide gelding Brin d’Or de Haute Melen Z ( Bamako De Muze x Baloubet De Rouet ).  ,
Big Boy Z, Conor O’Regan ( IRL), and
In a time of 76.73 seconds, Conor O’Regan ( IRL ) rode Delshore Horses LLC’s 11-year-old Zangersheide gelding, Big Boy Z ( Big Star Jr J J Z x Caridor Z ), in third place.

Busy AGBO Sets India Kidnap Drama ‘Dhaka’ At Netflix: Chris Hemsworth Stars & Sam Hargrave Helms Joe Russo Script Mike Fleming Jr DeadlineAugust 30, 2018, 2:44 PM GMT EXCLUSIVE: For a couple of guys whose summer entry Avengers: Infinity War became only the fourth ever to top $2 billion in worldwide ticket sales, and — at least until their sequel next summer — wiped out a good portion of the signature characters of the Marvel universe, Joe and Anthony Russohave been extreme multi-taskers, moving in overdrive to get their AGBO studio up and running. They’ve just firmed with Netflixplans for an India and Thailand shoot forDhaka, a kidnap extraction drama that will star Chris Hemsworth — whose Thor character is central to the two Avengers films — and marks the feature directorial debut ofSam Hargrave. He has graduated from being Chris Evans’ stunt double in Captain America: The Winter Soldier to fight and stunt coordinator in Captain America: Civil War, to holding those jobs plus some second unit directing in Avengers: Infinity War. Dhaka is a script written by Joe Russo and he’s producing with his brother, AGBO’s Mike Larocca, Thematic Entertainment’s Hemsworth and Ben Grayson. Dhaka is an action film in which Hemsworth has to liberate a kidnapped Indian boy who is being hidden in Dhaka. Physically brave but an emotional coward, the man has to come to terms with his identity and sense of self. This comes right after AGBO — up against several major studios — won a bidding battle for the buzzy Nico Walker novel Cherry with a $1 million outright buy landing a first novel based on the author’s story of returning from his Iraq stint as Army medic with raging PTSD that sent him into a raging opioid addiction that manifested itself in a short career as a bank robber, for which he is still serving time. The Russos intend to make it the first film they direct post-Avengers, and they’ve hired Jessica Goldberg to write it, based on the job she did adapting the Mohsin Hamid novel Exit West for The Imitation Game’s Morten Tyldum to direct. As Assassination Nation takes its place at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival before Neon releases it September 21– AGBO teamed with Neon on the $10M-plus worldwide deal after the film’s splashy Sundance premiere — AGBO is exploding in both movie and television projects. Their very first major deal was to buy the next film by the directing team known as The Daniels — Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert — after seeing their offbeat directing debutSwiss Army Man. That project, an inter-dimension action film, now has a title,Everything Everywhere All At Once, with talks underway with Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh, both coming off the hit Crazy Rich Asians, for a spring start. They also this summer bought the John Brancato pitch Neanderthal for Terry Notary to direct, and teamed with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman and STX on the thriller17 Bridges that got a strong rewrite of the Adam Mervis script by Matthew Carnahan and starts production in three weeks. This to go with an arsenal of projects that includes Andy & Barbara Muscietti — the team behind the monster Stephen King hit It and its evil clown-encrusted sequel — to turn the Simon Stålenhag scifi novel The Electric Slate into a potential tent pole feature. They’ve got a major deal with Amazon Studios on what at TCA was called agroundbreaking international event series, on which Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol’s Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec are negotiating to become show runners, sources said. They are producing through their Midnight Radio banner. No details are being provided about the concept beyond what Amazon offered at TCA, that the origin mother ship series will function as a fire-starter to ignite the creation of multiple original local-language and local production series. All of the local series are meant to enhance the entire entertainment experience and will be available for the viewer to deep dive into an imagined layered world. Mind you, the Russos created all this forward motion while directing back to back two of the biggest budget films this side of the Avatar sequels, with additional production shooting is getting underway on their final Avengers effort to open May 3, 2019 — and while they are building expansive production headquarters in the downtown artists district of Los Angeles. And Joe Russo is opening his first ever restaurant, Simone, an eatery spearheaded by James Beard-winning chef Jessica Largey and specializing in fresh Northern California cuisine in a space that is the ground floor of Bullitt, the commercial production company they partner in with Justin Lin. How is all this productivity possible? “I don’t know if it is high functioning ADD or what, but having spent the last 10 years as television producers and then making four Marvel movies in six and one-half years, I think we’ve really honed our efficiency skills and yeah, we’ve been able to work at a high volume.” They benefit from having ample private money that frees them from having to get permission from a studio sponsor, and the Russos have a brain trust that gets a lot done in a short time. Alongside COO Todd Makurath and production president Mike Larocca, the Russos last March set their Captain America and Avengers scribes Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely to become co-presidents of Story for AGBO. While they are all busy fine tuning that final Avengers installment, the duo is creatively shepherding these projects with the Russos, and they will write their own tent pole vehicles for AGBO. The Russos initially toyed with the notion of setting up shop at Fox, but decided instead to pact piecemeal on projects with distributors, to give themselves room to place projects where they fit best. The Russos were particularly sparked by prevailing in the Cherry auction, one that had rival bids from Sony Pictures, as well as Warner Bros, which bid for James Franco to direct. They tragic story of the book touched them and took them full circle to their own Cleveland roots. Where they stayed off the streets by watching arthouse films before they maxed out credit cards on their debutPieces, an avant garde film that premiered at Slamdance but never got released because they cut the film to popular songs they had no rights to use, tunes that were hopelessly too expensive to secure. The only person of note who saw it was Steven Soderbergh, who recognized a kindred spirit and became their godfather. His maverick spirit in many ways informs what the Russos are doing now. Cherry was a bold play and a way for them to reconnect with Cleveland and tell a meaningful story about the ravages of the opioid epidemic that is ravaging Cleveland and other working class cities across the country. “It is a really special book for both Joe and I, a piece of material that felt epic but personal, and it hit a sweet spot for us,” Anthony Russo told Deadline. “In part, it’s setting. We grew up in the exact area where the story begins and saw many elements that hit home. It’s rare that we are so moved that way by a piece of material. It’s funny, some people reference our Marvel work and some reference our television comedies. But the thing Joe and I have have about film making is that we can go in any direction at any time, and we love the eclectic output.” It was Joe Russo who got on the phone with the author — once Walker earned a new allotment of phone minutes that go to each inmate, something that slowed the pace of the fevered auction. This after they plugged in with the book’s brokers, UTA and Matthew Johnson, the owner of Fat Possum Records and Tyrant Books, who read about Walker and encouraged the inmate to write a book based on his story. Making movie deals with felons are always complicated, even though Walker reportedly will not be subjected to Son of Sam statute limitations because he was a non-violent felon in pulling off his robberies. Walker will use some of the money to fund the restitution that came as part of his sentence so he will likely have a clean slate when he walks out of prison in 2020. “It’s an important part of the narrative, the idea of moving forward with redemption and finding ways to make restitution,” Joe Russo said. “He understood what happened to him, but where does the blame lie here? It certainly lies with the individual who walked in the bank and robbed it, but it also lies with the drug makers, with the heroin dealers and the government and its broken system that isn’t doing a very good job of curtailing this epidemic because at the heart of that is greed. As much as he created victims, he also has been victimized by the system. “It was hard to engage in a story that has such tragedy at the heart of it, as the guy who is in prison and who spent years of his life as an addict robbing banks,” Joe Russo said. “There is a message behind this movie that is so powerful and so important to us, and there is a love story in there at the heart of it. I cried a few times while I was reading that book and for a number of reasons, it’s a very personal issue to us.” Russo acknowledged that some of the people he grew up close to have been caught in the opioid epidemic, though he would not be specific. “Soderbergh told us very early on when we got into the business and when we learned a lot of important lessons from him, he said, ‘You have to have a very zen attitude about the things you want to do, the ones you’re meant to do, which you will do, and the ones you’re not meant to do, which you won’t do. It sounds like a simplistic way to frame it, but it’s proven very true for us.” Cherry, he said, fell strongly into the first category. AGBO’s Larocca will be producer on that with Johnson serving as exec producer. Before they direct Cherry, the Russos will first have to conclude their Avengers saga, the first installment of which ended with a high number of superhero regulars simply vanishing as Josh Brolin’s Thanos character oversaw a genocide that shocked the Marvel faithful. Basically, a majority of the MCU that has provided Hollywood’s steadiest stream of billion dollar blockbusters, is hanging in the balance. “We’ve worked on the edit all summer and we’re excited to finally get these missing pieces in the film and then we expect to be in post through the fall and winter,” Anthony Russo said. “We hope to be done by March. It was so gratifying that in a movie with this scope and scale and that wide of an audience, that we were able to end with a gut punch and yet the audience stayed with us and found value and kept coming back. It’s a rare thing to find in commercial filmmaking and we know it had a lot to do with the the capital that’s been built up around these characters for the last ten years of Marvel filmmaking. The audience is so invested in these characters that they’re willing to stick with them even through the hard stuff. It has been out great pleasure as storytellers to take them through that hard stuff and have it be a cathartic and even entertaining experience at times.” Asked what the most surprising reaction they received, Joe Russo quickly answered. “It was probably when a 10-year old boy at a Q&A was crying as he asked us why we killed Spider-Man.” What was the best reaction to the daring storytelling? “The best reaction was probably that 10-year old kid crying and asking us why we killedSpider-Man. From the time we came to Marvel, our goal was to surprise the audience and not give them the same thing but rather to challenge them,” Joe Russo said. “That was our view on Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Civil War was also very controversial internally with the powers that be in turning Iron Man into the antagonist and severing the relationship between Cap and Tony Stark. Every Marvel film we’ve created had this controversy, like are we pushing this rabid audience too far? Are we making movies that could perhaps be too emotionally complex for the genre? That the audience has shown up wanting more is a testament to the hard work everybody has put in over those last ten years of films.” Hemsworth is repped by CAA, Fourward and Morrissey Management; Hargrave is WME; Awkwafina is UTA and Artists First, and Yeoh is Artists International Group. James Jamerson
James Lee Jamerson (January 29, 1936 – August 2, 1983) was an American bass player. He was the uncredited bassist on most of the Motown Records hits in the 1960s and early 1970s (Motown did not list session musician credits on their releases until 1971), and is now regarded as one of the most influential bass players in modern music history. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. As a session musician he played on 30 Billboard #1 hits, as well as over 70 R&B #1 hits, more than any other bass player in both categories.
In 2011, Jamerson ranked third in The "20 Most Underrated Bass Guitarists" in Pastemagazine.
Biography
A native of Edisto Island (near Charleston), South Carolina, Jamerson moved with his mother to Detroit, Michigan in 1954 and began playing in Detroit area blues and jazz clubs. His son, James Jamerson, Jr. (1958-2016), was also a professional bassist.
Motown years
Jamerson continued performing in Detroit clubs after graduating high school, and his increasingly solid reputation started providing him opportunities for sessions at various local recording studios. Starting in 1959, he found steady work at Berry Gordy's Hitsville U.S.A. studio, home of the Motown record label. There he became a member of a core of studio musicians who informally called themselves The Funk Brothers. This small, close-knit group of musicians performed on the vast majority of Motown recordings during most of the 1960s. Jamerson's earliest Motown sessions were performed on double bass, but in the early 1960s he switched to playing an electric Fender Precision Bass for the most part.
Like Jamerson, most of the other Funk Brothers were jazz musicians who had been recruited by Gordy. For many years, they maintained a typical schedule of recording during the day at Motown's small garage "Studio A" (which they nicknamed "the Snakepit"), then playing gigs in the jazz clubs at night. They also occasionally toured the U.S. with Motown artists. For most of their career, however, the Funk Brothers went uncredited on Motown singles and albums, and their pay was considerably less than the main artists or the label received. Eventually, Jamerson was put on retainer with Motown for one thousand dollars a week, which afforded him and his ever-expanding family a comfortable lifestyle.
Jamerson's discography at Motown reads as a catalog of soul hits of the 1960s and 1970s. His work includes Motown hits such as, among hundreds of others, "Shotgun" by Jr. Walker & the All Stars, "For Once in My Life," "I Was Made To Love Her" by Stevie Wonder, "Going to a Go-Go" by The Miracles, "My Girl" by The Temptations, "Dancing in the Street" by Martha and the Vandellas, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Gladys Knight and the Pips, and later by Marvin Gaye, and most of the album What's Going Onby Marvin Gaye, "Reach Out I'll Be There" and "Bernadette" by the Four Tops, and "You Can't Hurry Love" by The Supremes. According to fellow Funk Brothers in the 2002 documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown, Gaye was desperate to have Jamerson play on "What's Going On," and went to several bars to find the bassist. When he did, he brought Jamerson to the studio, who then played the classic line while lying flat on his back. He is reported to have played on some 95% of Motown recordings between 1962 and 1968. He eventually performed on nearly 30 No. 1 pop hits—surpassing the record commonly attributed to The Beatles. On the R&B charts, nearly 70 of his performances went to the top.
Style and influence
Jamerson is noted for expanding the musical style and role of bass-playing in the popular music of the time, which (in 1950s and '60s R&B, rock and roll, and country) largely consisted of root notes, fifths and simple repetitive patterns. By contrast, many of Jamerson's bass lines relied heavily on chromatic runs, syncopation, ghost notes and inversions, with frequent use of open strings. His nimble bass playing was considered an integral part of the "Motown Sound". He transcended the standard "bass line" and created a duet with the singer, melodic, but still very tightly locked with the drumgroove. Prominent bassists who have claimed Jamerson as a primary influence include James Brown's Bernard Odum, Bootsy Collins, Abraham Laboriel, Pino Palladino, Alan Gorrie, Rick Danko, Anthony Jackson, Jack Bruce, John Entwistle, Bernard Edwards, Jason Newsted, Jaco Pastorius, John Patitucci, John Paul Jones, Robert DeLeo, Rick Skatore, Mike Watt, Billy Sheehan, Joel Shipp, Geddy Lee, Victor Wooten, Paul McCartney, Mike Mills, Suzi Quatro, Matt Noveskey, Tommy Shannon, Matt Rubano, Phillip Chen and Michael "Flea" Balzary.
Post-Motown career
Shortly after Motown moved their headquarters to Los Angeles, California in 1972, Jamerson moved there himself and found occasional studio work, but his relationship with Motown officially ended in 1973. He went on to perform on such 1970s hits as "Rock the Boat" (The Hues Corporation), "Boogie Fever" (The Sylvers), and "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)" (Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr.) and also played on Robert Palmer's 1975 solo album Pressure Drop. But as other musicians went on to use high-tech amps, round-wound strings, and simpler, more repetitive bass lines incorporating new techniques like thumb slapping, Jamerson's style fell out of favor with local producers and he found himself reluctant to try new things. By the 1980s he was unable to get any serious gigs working as a session musician.
Death
Long troubled by alcoholism, Jamerson died of complications stemming from cirrhosis of the liver, heart failure and pneumonia on August 2, 1983, in Los Angeles at the age of 47. He left a wife, Anne, three sons, James Jamerson Jr., Ivey (Joey), and Derek, and a daughter Doreen. He is interred at Detroit's historic Woodlawn Cemetery on Woodward Avenue.
Recognition
James Jamerson (as is the case with the other Funk Brothers) received little formal recognition for his lifetime contributions. It was not until 1971, when he was acknowledged as "the incomparable James Jamerson" on the sleeve of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, that his name even showed up on a major Motown release.
Jamerson was the subject of a 1989 book by Allan Slutsky (aka "Dr. Licks") titled Standing in the Shadows of Motown. The book includes a biography of Jamerson, a few dozen transcriptions of his bass lines, and two CDs in which 26 internationally known professional bassists (such as Pino Palladino, John Entwistle, Will Lee, Chuck Rainey, and Geddy Lee) speak about Jamerson and play those transcriptions. Jamerson's story was also featured in the subsequent 2002 documentary film of the same title.
In 1999, Jamerson was awarded a bust at the Hollywood Guitar Center's Rock Walk.
In 2000, Jamerson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, part of the first-ever group of "sidemen" to be so honored.
In 2003, there was a two-day celebration entitled "Returned To The Source" which was hosted by The Charleston Jazz Initiative and Avery Research Center of The College of Charleston.
In 2004, the Funk Brothers were honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2007, Jamerson along with the other Funk Brothers was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in Memphis, Tennessee.
In 2008, James Jamerson was awarded the Gullah/GeeChee Anointed Spirit Award.
In 2009, Jamerson was inducted into the Fender Hall of Fame. Among the speakers was fellow legendary Motown session bassist and friend, Bob Babbitt.
In 2009, Jamerson received a Resolution from the SC House of Representatives.
In 2012, Jamerson received the Hartke, Zune, Samson 2012 International Bassist Award.
In 2013, he along with the Funk Brothers received their Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2014, Jamerson received a State Resolution from the South Carolina Senate.
Jamerson's equipment
James Jamerson's double bass was a German upright acoustic bass that he bought as a teenager and later used on such Motown hits as "My Guy" by Mary Wells and "(Love Is Like a) Heat Wave" by Martha and the Vandellas.
Jamerson played mainly the Fender Precision Bass, but is known to have briefly used a Fender Bass V and a Hagström 8-string later in his career.
His first electric bass was a 1957 Precision Bass, refinished in black, with a gold anodized pickguard and maple fretboard, nicknamed "Black Beauty". That bass was a gift from his fellow bass player Horace "Chili" Ruth. In the sixties, that bass was stolen.
After his 1957 Precision Bass was stolen, he acquired a stock 1962 Fender Precision Bass which was dubbed "The Funk Machine." It had a three-tone sunburst finish, a tortoise-shell pickguard, rosewood fretboard and chrome pickup and bridge covers (the latter containing a piece of foam used to dampen sustain and some overtones). On the heel of the instrument he carved with ballpoint pen the word "FUNK". He typically set its volume and tone knobs on full. This instrument was also stolen, just days before Jamerson's death in 1983. To date, it has not been found.
James Jamerson used La Bella heavy-gauge (.052–.110) flatwound strings which were never replaced, unless a string broke. He didn't particularly take care of the instrument, as he stated: "The gunk keeps the funk", and it is possible that the neck eventually warped, as many claimed it impossible to play. While this made it more difficult to fret, Jamerson believed it improved the quality of the tone. Early in the '70s, a producer attempted to modernize James Jamerson's sound by asking the bassist to switch to brighter-sounding roundwound bass strings, but Jamerson politely declined.
One aspect of James Jamerson's upright playing that carried over to the electric bass guitar was the fact that he generally used only his right index finger to pluck the strings while resting his 3rd and 4th fingers on the chrome pickup cover. Jamerson's index finger even earned its own nickname: "The Hook". Another aspect of Jamerson's upright playing which carried over was his use of open strings, a technique long used by jazz bass players, to pivot around the fretboard which served to give his lines a fluid feeling.
Jamerson's amplifier of choice at club performances was an Ampeg B-15; in larger venues, he used a blue Naugahyde Kustom with twin 15" speakers. On both, the bass was typically turned up full and the treble turned halfway up. On most of his studio recordings, his bass was plugged directly into the custom-made mixing console together with the guitars from Eddie Willis, Robert White and Joe Messina. He adjusted the console so that his sound was slightly overdriven and had a mild tube compression.

Federal holidays that affect taxes
Today technically is George Washington's Birthday, but we've come to call it Presidents Day in honor of all our commanders in chief, like these four greats on Mount Rushmore National Memorial. (Image courtesy Mount Rushmore Facebook page)
Happy Washington's Birthday.
I know, most of us, including all the retailers offering us sales savings, tend to call today President's (or Presidents'; the apostrophe is mobile) Day.
But officially on the federal level, the third Monday in February is Uncle Sam's day to honor the birth of the Father of Our Country.
George's actual birthday is Feb. 22, 1731. We've celebrated it as a regular weekday holiday since 1968, when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act mandating most federal holidays occur on Mondays took effect.
youtube
Christopher Jackson, who portrayed George Washington in the Broadway smash "Hamilton," and the show's composer and title character star Lin-Manuel Miranda perform "One Last Time" during a visit to the Obama White House.
We've also informally expanded and renamed it, primarily to include commemoration of Abraham Lincoln's time in the White House.
Honest Abe definitely deserves special attention because of his leadership during the Civil War and, of course, for issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.
Our 16th president also can be called the father of our tax system.
No, Lincoln didn't actually write the tax code. He did, however, see the need for taxes to help finance the Civil War. And in August 1851 he signed into law the legislation that created the United States' first federal income tax.
As for the other guys (yep, still just men) who've worked out of the Oval Office, AL.com has selected an inspirational quote from each to highlight today.
And several presidents' words are featured in my tax quotes piece (OK, it's a slideshow; sorry) from a few years ago.
Regardless of what you call today or how you celebrate, this federal holiday is a good time to look at how these commemorative days can affect our current-day taxes.
Presidents' Day tax time: Although Internal Revenue Service employees, like federal workers across the nation, get today off, it's still a busy tax time.
The IRS says that the long Washington et al weekend is one of the busiest, as taxpayers who also have some free time take advantage of the day to work on their returns. That usually produces a surge of tax filings in the two weeks following this holiday.
As the filing ramps up, the IRS toll-free telephone help lines will become more jammed. So the agency is encouraging folks (individual taxpayers and tax preparers alike) to use the online resources at IRS.gov.
The agency has put together Publication 5136, IRS Services Guide, which details ways to access IRS tax help.
Usual federal holidays' tax effects: As for other federal holidays, for employee paid days off, the IRS recognizes 10 federal holidays.
In January, there are New Year's Day and Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday.
February has today, President's Day.
The Memorial Day long weekend is in May, followed about a month later by the July 4th Independence Day celebration.
Labor Day in September and Columbus Day (yes, it's still official, despite protests) in October.
Then the year winds down with Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day in November and Christmas Day in December.
These federal commemorations also can affect those of us who don't work for the IRS, but do file taxes. When a tax deadline is on a weekend or federal legal holiday, that due date is pushed to the next business day.
The MLK Day holiday, for example, sometimes gives estimated tax filers extra time to make that Jan. 15 fourth quarter payment.
Other special federal holidays: The IRS also notes that when a sitting president declares other holidays in recognition of specific events, its workers will get those days off, too.
That happened most recently when President George Herbert Walker Bush died. That day of mourning for Bush 41 in December 2018 also postponed some state and local tax deadlines.
One day that doesn't require commander-in-chief designation (and which ties into to today's inclusion of Lincoln in Washington's birthday holiday) is Emancipation Day.
This is a holiday in the District of Columbia that celebrates Lincoln's signing on April 16, 1862, of the Compensated Emancipation Act, officially ending slavery in the national capital.
Federal law says that holidays observed in Washington, D.C., also must be observed by federal agencies. So when April 16 rolls around, it's an IRS holiday.
And when a weekend means the usual April 15 filing deadline goes into the next work week, when that next day is April 16, then Tax Day gets pushed one more day out thanks to Emancipation Day.
So keep an eye on your calendars, both for general federal holidays and also on how they might affect any tax deadlines you must meet.

Alabama soccer recruiting: Flips contribute to Tide’s lowest-ranked class since 2007
Even Alabama is not proof against being on the flawed finish of Nationwide Signing Day flips. On Wednesday, three gamers beforehand dedicated to the Crimson Tide — five-star linebacker Quay Walker, defensive sort out Bobby Brown and linebacker/athlete Vernon Jackson — ended up elsewhere.
Walker dedicated Georgia because of a hat toss that will not quickly be forgotten, Brown switched from the Tide to Texas A&M in one of many early bulletins of the day, and Jackson joined the Aggies as nicely after decommitting from the Tide on Tuesday (his Nationwide Letter of Intent just isn’t in TAMU’s hand right now).
Because it so occurs, 247Sports activities’ Barton Simmons predicted this week that Alabama may lose all three. On prime of these, Clemson swiped the highest participant from the state of Alabama, four-star broad receiver Justyn Ross.
Whereas it was anticipated that Alabama wouldn’t end No. 1 this yr, snapping their seven-cycle streak of hauling within the nation’s top-ranked class, it was a shock to see the Tide as little as No. 9 noon. By the point Nationwide Signing Day concluded, Alabama checked in at No. 6 nationally, a spot most applications within the nation would kill to be in however one which has the Tide finish 2018 with its lowest-ranked class since 2007 (No. 12).
How precisely did this occur?
Simmons explains a confluence of occasions — a “good storm,” if you’ll — led to Alabama’s end.
Not solely did the Tide undergo a major employees turnover in shedding each of their coordinators, all of it went down whereas one among Nick Saban’s disciples in Kirby Sensible was placing collectively a historic recruiting class in Georgia and billing the Bulldogs because the “subsequent Alabama.” Ohio State coach City Meyer additionally formally discovered his footing with some huge wins for the Buckeyes, and Texas A&M’s addition of Jimbo Fisher took a chunk out of a few of Saban’s deliberate signings. There was additionally Florida coach Dan Mullen who earned two recruiting wins over Saban on signing day, together with four-star broad receiver Jacob Copeland out of Pensacola, Florida.
This stuff occur yearly to a number of groups throughout the nation, simply not often Alabama.
Even with the Early Signing Interval, there have been quite a lot of shifting elements main as much as February’s signing day. And after we say one thing is a “shock,” that is often floor degree; hardly ever does it catch the shedding teaching employees fully off guard. There are at all times different choices being pursued.
And that is additionally to not say the Tide didn’t have their share of wins Wednesday, notably touchdown five-star nook Patrick Surtain Jr. in a shocker over LSU, which led for his companies for a lot of the 2018 cycle.
Nonetheless, given Alabama’s recruiting success — seven straight No. 1 lessons, per 247Sports activities Composite rankings — the flips and the Tide’s end have been notable.
It could be inaccurate to say Alabama had a “dangerous” signing day as a result of there’s nothing dangerous about ending with a top-10 class. That also correlates with recruiting nicely sufficient to win a nationwide championship, which is the usual in Tuscaloosa. However so far as signing lessons go, this was not the Crimson Tide’s finest day.

Their recruiting analysts are on the bottom proper now for Nationwide Signing Day. Plus, use the code SIGN2018 to get 30 days fully free on any plan they provide!
