You can't solve a problem with the same thinking that got you there in the first place. It occured to me this morning, what an opportunity this is for all of us to shift our perspective, get out of the rut humanity has been in, and think differently than we have been for so long. Sometimes shake-ups are blessings in disguise. I'm not discounting the very real grief and sadness and loss of lives and jobs, but rather recognizing what-is, accepting, and realizing that any change can be used as a catalyst for new thinking. I've let the grief and sadness and fear wash over me. It flows in and out like a river. Rivers are healing. _ Could it be that amidst all this upheaval, we have a gift in disguise? Are we being shaken out of our stupor so that we can see more clearly? Can we use this new perspective to innovate and change our ways? It feels like a freight train being thrown off course and I think that in the end it may be the redirection humanity needed. Perhaps we weren't going to shift tracks on our own and now it is being done for us. We were heading down the tracks into a barren wasteland, and now...now? What's ahead? Cleaner oceans, bigger forests, more togetherness, more respect, more resilient communities, more care? What new path will humanity choose? Rest is just as important as herbs. Herbs don't necessarily heal you. They support your body to enhance it's natural healing process. Your body needs rest in order to allow itself to heal and to help the herbs work their magic. Oh no! I'm almost out of my Elderberry Oxymel! This has by far been one of my favorite remedies and personally my favorite way to take my elderberries. _ An oxymel is a vinegar and honey extraction of herbs. If you enjoy apple cider vinegar and honey, then you'll probably love this! And it's easy to make at home. I have a recipe for this oxymel on my blog via the link in my IG profile. ☝️ _ They are also even easier to make with my Elderberry syrup DIY kits. Yes, the DIY kits work for the oxymel as well! You'll just follow the instructions on my blog instead of the included instructions. _ How do I love thee oxymel? Let me count the ways! _ A big love is the convenience. Unlike the syrup, the oxymel is shelf stable for months, which means I can carry it around in my purse and always have it on hand when I need it. It's also convenient when you add it to a dropper bottle - just two squirts in some water and you are good to go! _ When I have goop in my chest, I love the way the vinegar warms my throat with the herbs and helps to loosen the mucus even more. _ Elderberries are an herb I am almost never without. They are incredibly high in antioxidants and outrank grapes, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries in nutritional content gram for gram. They contain nearly ten times the amount of Vitamin A as grapes! _ There's so much more to these berries, too. Is it possible to hold rage and love simultaneously? What does holy rage feel like? Can I hate a person's actions and the way they treat the world and still hold love for them? Can I live with one foot in and one foot out of the Miasma? Can I transmute my sacred rage into fuel for action and changemaking? Can I feel my emotions yet stay in the light? _ I love the San Pedro River and it is being threatened by the border wall. I love the way it flows between two countries, bringing sacred water down the sandy banks of the last free-flowing river in the Southwest- a heart-string offering us a glimpse of peaceful sisterhood. I love the towering wise cottonwoods who are wisdom keepers of so many stories they have witnessed over the years. I love the jaguar who roams freely, not respecting f-ing man-made boundaries that are so arbitrary in the grand scheme of time and life. I love the birds who sing their constant melodies. I love the blessed quiet. It's a sanctuary in a world where quiet is so hard to come by. _ And I wonder if this grand show of ego, our chests puffed up declaring, "this is ours," will be laughed at by mother nature. Surely. _ I weep for the towering cottonwoods tagged for removal. They are sentient beings, with roots sinking so deep they could write a library of stories witnessed, if they had words. They communicate with everything around them. They know what it means to be interconnected. Us humans could learn a thing or two. I weep for the jaguars who will be forced to one side or another of that idiotic wall. Ancient paths will now be severed, cut off, separating more families (of our animal kin) in the process. I weep for the water, flowing for eons now to be walled up without a whole lot of regard for the flow of life. _ I weep. I feel. I let the anger move through me. And then I let it fuel my warrior spirit. It is fuel for creation, for expression, for compassion, for love. It is fuel to act. I pray, may my rage be used for the good of all beings and the planet. Thou shall not feel guilty for placing myself on house arrest. - I didn't obey my commandments and now here I am on Christmas Eve with cold sweats and a sore throat. - Let this be a lesson to me (and maybe you) no amount of elderberry will save ya if you wear yourself down (well, maybe, herbs can be pretty amazing, but in most cases rest and stress trump all else). - So if you've been going, going, going like those dang talking Christmas toys that repeat everything you say, then please take the next few days to rest! I'm being forced to anyway, because I didn't listen. - And it also can't hurt to keep a stash of your favorite elderberry remedy on hand either because elderberries are a big help, but not the end all be all. The energy of today seems very intense for many of us. Is it just me because I seem to see so many patterns of pain coming up to be released today? I had a good cry earlier, after feeling pain around what friends and family are experiencing as well as so much destruction of our prescious Earth. I'm sad. I'm angry. And I'm also filled with peace and joy in just being, all at the same time. _ I drove by the river on my way home and I stopped to sing. I took in the incredible sight of it all. The hawk flying overhead...the sunlit cottonwoods. Then I cried. I cried, and I cried, and I cried. The river was witness to my pain, and I was witness to hers. And we witnessed beauty together. _ I want you to know that no matter what, you are loved. Regardless of what others do to you, the thoughts going through your head, the things you are witnessing, the pain you are feeling...YOU are loved. _ So witness. Feel. Express. Sing. Dance. Cry. Scream. Move. Drum. Pound. Stomp. Let it out. Release. Let the Earth hold you. _ Take care of yourself today. Spend some time planting your feet on solid ground.
