Mets Thump Twins 15-2.
Twins 2 Mets 15 W-Quintana (6-6) L-Woods Richardson (3-2) SV-Butto (2)
The Minnesota Twins continued their road trip as they headed to Queens to play the Mets this week. The Twins were ready from the start as Manny Margot led-off with a double to center and Byron Buxton dumped a single to right to score the game's first run. This put the Twins up by a run before the Mets grabbed a bat. The Mets started to figure out Simeon Woods Richardson in the fourth when Pete Alonso crushed a fastball out to left for a solo homer. This tied the game at one and New York wasn't done yet. Jesse Winker walked and Mark Vientos doubled. Jeff McNeil and Luis Torrens each lined a run-scoring singles to right to put the Mets on top. Harrison Bader walked to load up the bases and Francisco Lindor plated a run with a single. Brandon Nimmo and JD Martinez each hit sac flies to put the Mets up 6-1. Jose Quintana ran with it through six solid innings. The Mets added on in the sixth when they battted around and put up five runs. Pete Alonso added an RBI doubled to right in the seventh and the rout was on in Queens. The Mets added three more runs to go up 15-1 after seven innings. Ryan Jeffers knocked a Jose Butto pitch out to left in the ninth as the Twins showed a little life. Jose Butto eventually got out of the ninth and the Mets picked up the series opener win over the Twins tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Simeon Woods Richardson was pitching well until he hit a wall in the fourth. He went 3 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Cole Sands threw 1 2/3 shutout innings, Josh Staumont gave up five runs over 1/3 of an inning, and Steven Okert got out of the seventh. Brock Stewart allowed four runs in 2/3 of an inning and Matt Wallner got the last four outs without giving up a run. Manny Margot, Byron Buxton, and Max Kepler led the way with two hits each. The Twins hit 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Tomorrow, David Festa faces Sean Manaea in Game 2.

Cyclones’ Pitching, Speed, Timely Hitting Tame Vermont in 4-1 Win
By Jerry Del Priore
Ross Adolph, New York Mets 2018 12th Round Pick and Current Brooklyn Cyclone.
Good pitching usually leads to victory, and speed kills, not to mention clutch hitting. The Brooklyn Cyclones, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, made good on that theory Wednesday night at MCU Park.
Hurler Jose Butto tossed six scoreless innings, they stole seven bases, and…

The Celts Club de Golf.
We celebrated our championship match last Saturday at La Serena. I will keep the accounts brief as we had 9 tournaments to present on the day. First of all, thanks are due to Philip Mountford and Terry Fitzgerald for organising the competition on the day. To La Serena, Jean, Paul, Karolina and Jose in the pro-shop many thanks for preparing the cards and collating the results. Gloria and all the kitchen staff well done as always. To Wayne and his team, the course was in ideal condition. To James Hayes our captain for 2019 who entertained with his witty jibes. Please be careful with his poor hand. To all who stayed back for the presentation many thanks. Keep up the good work. Down to the results, golf prize winners’ week 1, Cat. I, Alan Perry, Robert Smith and Pat Coyne. Cat. II, Kjell Mundheim, Jennifer McCadden and Karen Neal. Week 2, Cat. I, Alan Ewing, Chris Daw and Harry Lee. Cat. II Sally Hopkins, Kjell Mundheim and Holly Thomson. Week 3. Cat. The gross was won by Robert Smith with 32. Second overall Alan Ewing with 37 and the winner by three clear points Yvette McGeehan. Thank you one and all for your attendance and support. Could we be aware of a number of issues that we might address in order to improve the experience for all in a tournament, firstly the issue of slow play. Can players please keep up with the group in front of them. Do not wait until it is your turn to play to start your routine, putting on or taking off your glove, marking and cleaning your ball, selecting your club, measuring your distance for your shot etc. all of these can be done in advance and this will help the smooth flow of the game. We had four players disqualified on the day, three for not presenting their cards and one for no signature. It is your responsibility to have your card signed and return it to the tournament director. We have a waiting list in operation at the moment for membership at La Serena, however membership of The Celts is always available. If you would like information on joining our club or entering a team in any of the federation events why not send an e-mail to [email protected] or call 615 466 398?

THE CELTS CLUB DE GOLF.
In sweltering heat last Saturday we celebrated our Captains’ prize (Mr. Alisdair McLean) tournament at La Serena. I would like to thank Alisdair for his contribution to our club, he has been a model captain always lending his support to all our events.
It was our sixth annual event and how rapidly the years have gone. We had a field of 92 players all anxious to rise to the challenge and claim the prestigious title. The morning began bright and early with the drive in at 8.30 before the first players set off. Needless to say it was a fine drive and set the mark for one of the later prizes.
Scoring was particularly high, with no fewer than 15 players equal or better than par. I would like to thank the staff in the pro-shop for their usual professionalism to Jose, Jean and Paul. To Wayne and all his team for the excellent condition of the course, thank you. An event such as this takes many months of planning and it is very important to acknowledge the role played by the members of the junta directiva.
To Camillus Fitzpatrick ably assisted by Philip Mountford many thanks for all the hard work. To our treasurer Denis McCormack who does a sterling job managing the accounts and making it possible to purchase such an array of prizes. Through prudent management the competition is subsidised by The Celts club and the entry fee for the day was only 10 euro. This covered golf, prizes and dinner in The Sunrise restaurant.
Down to the presentation of prizes. We had four sections, one for the visitors and three members’ categories. The visitors’ section winner was Adrian Cunningham with 33 pts. The NTP’s were collected by Sue Owens, John Aitchison, Steve Baron, Steve Carter, John O’Brien and Andy Currie.
The special prizes, nearest the Captain’s drive went to Eileen Hudson who was absolutely thrilled as this was her first ever prize. The longest drive went to Alan Proudfoot. Category 3. 1st. Giovanni Butto 39, 2nd. Roy Sutherlan 39, 3rd. John Coholan 39. Category 2. 1st. Sue Benning 40, 2nd. Darren Holden 37, 3rd. Laurence Brennan 37. Category 1. 1st. Tony Head 37, 2nd. Pauvla Serakova 36, 3rd. John O’Brien 33. The gross was won by Camillus FItzpatrick with 32. The overall runner-up Nigel Brandish with 40 and the winner of the Captains’ prize, Roy Ramberg. 41pts.
A special mention must go to our senior golfers as similar to the current holder of the Presidents prize Roy has celebrated more than 75 years. There is hope for us all yet.
