hooooo boy okay, some of this is about the franchise and some of this is about the fandom (which I love with all my heart okay please no one throw rocks at me lol)

continuing on the shipping train of thought, I don't actually find the Encom trio (Alan/Lora/Flynn) all that compelling as an ot3. and a lot of it is a personal pet peeve I've come across in a number of fandoms, but honestly most m/m/f ot3s feel like they're just a way for people to focus on the m/m dynamic while patting themselves on the back for "including" the female character instead of sidelining her completely........ even though said female character is rarely if ever a major contributor to the dynamic or a focus of whatever fanwork. but on a less meta side eye note I just find the perceived sexual component of Alan and Flynn's relationship to be the least compelling thing they could've had going on

and I know she's barely brought up in canon outside of Betrayal but uhm Jordan exists??? and perhaps it is an unpopular opinion but I would like to see more of her in things instead of relying on Lora to be the only human woman in the Tron universe

once again I might not be so harsh on Uprising if there was more to it, but taking it for what it is and how much of it exists -- a lot of the episodes were boring filler to me. also I don't like how they drew Tron

actually I don't like how Tron has been drawn in any rendered/animated media with the exception of maybe Kingdom Hearts

I don't think of Rinzler as a standalone character, and he's not at all interesting to me when removed from the fact that he is Tron with the serial numbers filed off. I feel like I've increasingly seen people portraying Rinzler as his own thing and it simply does not work for me. I think the whole point of his character / existence is that he doesn't have thoughts or feelings or any real personality of his own. he's a backflipping blank slate whose only real character moments are when Tron's overwritten personality peeks through

to that end I can't conceive of an ending where Tron or anyone around him would allow him to remain as Rinzler, and I can't imagine that Rinzler's capable of forming an autonomous opinion to not want to be Tron again

the fandom collective spends too much time talking about how hot the live action and animated men are and not enough time talking about how hot the Sirens are. or how hot Yori is especially in the deleted love scene. or how hot Paige is. or

Daft Punk (rightfully) gets a lot of hype for the Legacy soundtrack, but Wendy Carlos's soundtrack for 82 is unfairly slept on. love that those funky robots got to cameo, but we should be giving Carlos just as much credit for her work

for as much as it pains me to say it, I don't think Tron ever would've been a tentpole franchise for Disney even if they had treated it better. and it's mostly because of the sad fact that the general public has never been that into Tron. I see it tossed around a lot that Disney ditched Tron in favor of focusing on Star Wars and Marvel. A New Hope -- an original sci fi movie that had absolutely no brand recognition, so to speak -- made over $400 million in 1977. the original Tron made $50 million in 82. the first Iron Man movie -- which sure had comic fan recognition but was still a very early comic blockbuster -- in 2008 made over $500 million. Legacy made just over $400 million in 2010. and Disney advertised the shit out of Legacy, they didn't set it up to fail. yes it sucks that things like Uprising were dealt a bad hand (a garbage release schedule that lead to poor viewership that definitely killed the show), yes it sucks that capitalism impacts what art gets made, but the fact of the matter is that Tron has always had niche appeal, and niche appeal does not a successful franchise make. and while it'd be nice to live in the universe where Tron blew up, I look at what's become of Star Wars and Marvel and maybe I don't lament it all that much

Third-- Cate you poor bitch!! I felt so betrayed but i dont doubt she its being brainwashed/groomed by Dean Shety so maybe she can be redeemed and her powers are too strong.... i dont doubt that there its a chance she its involved in who appears in ep 6 if thats not a halucination.

Fourth-- Dr. Cardosa mentioning a virus to deal with them... so i guess thats how we r gonna deal with the supe population and why i think the vought hq leak might be real as it mentions the virus as well... i think its super interesting that Vought its developing a virus to kill supes, i guess stan edgar did had a way to make V24 viable despite having supes and maybe a way to get rid of Homelander... by giving him the common cold i guess.

Fifth-- am glad that Maverick is another bisexual king but its the bestiality jokes necessary?? altho I assume his alpaca gf Sloane its just a shapeshifter. So far we got Marie, Jordan, Emma, Cate and Andre as our bisexual monarchs and thats basically the whole cast sans Sam... absolutely iconic Kripke, best apology after fucking up Dean Winchester but i wont forgive you for what u did... still thank you.

Sixth-- the pv for the next ep has fucking Soldier Boy!!! Deep down i feel he its most likely a halucination... saw some ppl theorizing that Cate its mindstorm daughter and she witnessed Mindstorm getting killed by SB so she will use her powers to send them to a mind prison to fight SB which is absurd but i doubt SB its there unless Cate's powers were use to brainwash soldier boy and use him as a weapon in the future, as his powers r too good plus is Vought wants to kill all supes then it makes sense for them to team up with the american govt and have SB as back up while they work with the Superona.

Seventh-- i only now noticed there its a wall poster for homie and loneliness on those school mental health ads which is sad and funny.

Eight-- overall great episode loved how much its happening and its only been days inside the canon, and fuck Rufus! How its the next 3 eps gonna kill me!! Like its too freaking much!!

I would not be surprised if this virus is the one being developed in The Woods by Vought, second if this is real then Butcher its a complete pos and a hypocrite i expect the following scenarios of: a) during the time Becca was raped or the wk she went missing thats when Butcher cheated on Becca so its not hatred that motivated his revenge against Homelander but guilt for cheating on his wife... probably with his married fbi plug if i had to take a guess. Or B) Becca learned of his affair decided to have her own affair with Homelander tried to end it which resulted in her S.A. which its why Homelander doesnt see what he did as rape bcuz i guess its not assault if its ur GF/Wife in his mind.

Another cameo that's only notable because I have no clue why Vic would be here. He has literally never met Hal Jordan, how did he get an invite. He's even standing off to the back instead of sitting with everyone else.

The Question Returns

The river emissary is conceptually a lot better than any of the other supernatural takes on the Question. The idea that Vic's death in the river would make his conscience literally haunt him is interesting, and it being questionably supernatural is more to my taste. Making the river a magical harmonica-playing old black man was not a great choice though.

Vic describing Tot as "an ex-father figure" makes me want to implode.

Vic is a mess. He can't go home, he can't stay away, he's shifted from Vic Sage the hard-hitting journalist to Vic Sage the laid-back poker player but he hasn't been able to change the Question. This is why he takes up so much space in my brain.

Even after he left he still held on to his love for Myra and Hub City, and this is where he can't do it anymore. He will never see her again. Godddddddd.

Steel #38

I hadn't read this one before, and I'm glad I'm reading it now, because it's great. I gotta get into Steel eventually.

Vic declares himself teammates with John and then immediately splits up and gets his shit wrecked. Maybe let the guy with power armor protect you next time.

This wandering gambler era is fun, I wish it had lasted a little longer. There are so many interesting places Vic could pop up with poker incidents as an excuse, it's the perfect way to keep him around without him having anything specific going on.

Calling her a supporting character is maybe a stretch but she gets to talk to Martian Manhunter so I'm counting it.

Cataclysm

Vic interlude is over, time for events.

I like Cataclysm quite a bit. It's heavy on the cop shit and some of the issues are just not good, but I think the earthquake makes for a better citywide event than any of the "oh no it's the Joker" ones, and everyone involved really gets to shine.

Once again I am forced to admit I like when Cluemaster shows up. Steph saving her dad from Helena despite everything is a strong moment.

Random Encounters (Batman Chronicles #14)

OH NO. Ohhhh no. Strap in folks it's time for her to become a main character.

Renee talks to her brother about his guilt over killing when he was in the Navy, and she uses Two-Face's coin to make her point about randomness and how right and wrong aren't simple, which. Hhhhh.

Apparently she shot a guy who was trying to kill Two-Face, and got the coin in return.

Sorry but Renee flipping the coin and making decisions based on the outcome fucking annihilates me and I cannot BELIEVE I hadn't read this before now.

This isn't even a comic it's a short story. Eight pages of Rucka setting up the dominoes.

This is in continuity, but it ignores all of Vic's canon post-Charlton - he's a newscaster working with Nora from the Ditko run, Hub City is Ted's home city but not his, he's characterized pretty much how he was in Charlton and those few Blue Beetle crossovers post-Crisis... the other heroes seem a little more up-to-date but they're all still kind of janky.

Wow this does not do a good job making me care about any of these characters.

The plot is mostly racist and/or nonsense and most of it bounced right off my brain despite repeated readings.

Honestly I'm here for Ted more than Vic. He's going through it.

I do like the framing device of Vic writing his report in the final issue. The real treasure was the friends we made along the way.

My Movie Review: "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever"

I saw “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” this past weekend!  I just wanted to share my own personal Movie Review, and maybe we can discuss it (Spoiler-Free). 

**NOTE:  I will first start off by giving a very general overview/review of the movie overall, and then further down below in the “keep reading” section, I will discuss the pros and cons from the movie, and will go more in-depth and be more candid with how I felt about the movie, but IT WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS, so I just want to make sure everyone is aware of that.  So, if you DON’T want any spoilers, DO NOT click the section to “read more”. 

With that said….

OVERALL:

Overall, this movie is definitely one to check out and see on the big screen.  It is visually spectacular, the music is great, and the story definitely held my attention.  I LOVED how this movie dealt with grief and the up and down rollercoaster of emotions that someone can experience when they’ve lost someone that they love dearly to death.  ☹  The film was VERY moving, and I found myself shedding a tear in a couple of parts during the movie, and not too many films did that for me this year. 

This was a visually spectacular film.  The costumes were AMAZIINNNG!!!!!!😍 OMG they definitely deserve an Oscar nod just for the costume designs ALONE lol. 👏🏾 Oh and the ACTING!  Chiiiiilllle….the acting in this film was SUPERB!  Miss Angela Basset did her thing y’all!  Letitia had some pretty decent scenes as well.   I see some ladies are already LOVING the villain in the film, Namor lol.  He wasn’t bad-looking imo.  He’s already got some fans I see hahaha. 🤣

I felt like the film did a very nice tribute to Chadwick, and I found myself getting sad during certain parts remembering his passing.  You can definitely tell that they have to rewrite the script almost completely and change the plot direction of the film due to their lead actor’s unexpected passing away, and so I will try not to be TOO overly judgmental in my more in-depth review of the “pros” and “cons” down below.  I liked how they also kept some humor in the film though, so it wasn’t all just crying and pain. 

I’m definitely going to have to watch this movie again soon in order to get some more of the subtle messages in the film as well as to appreciate it more.

MY OVERALL SCORE:  7.5/10   (I know I’ll probably get pelted with tomatoes for saying this buttttt….. Honestly? I felt the first “Black Panther” movie was MUCH better. Sequels are tough sometimes because there’s that huge pressure and expectation to be better than the first movie.🥴)

**HINT: Make sure to stay to the mid-credt scenes after the movie has ended!   You definitely don’t want to miss that lol.  There isn’t a second after credit scene, so you don’t have to sit there until all the credits are over lol.

PROS:

I LOVED seeing “Black Excellence” onscreen.  Omg the women were so beautiful!  It’s so rare that we see DARKER-skinned black women featured in mainstream films with POSITIVE representation, so it’s just always refreshing to see that in this franchise. 😊

I LOVED how they introduced Iron Heart into the franchise.  Riri!

I LOVED the wonderful little tributes to Chadwick in the film, especially the beginning part with the Marvel “Intro”.  I was so touched that they did that for him.  *sob*😭😭

I loved the humor in the film… Some parts made me laugh literally out loud lol. 

I liked how they kept the subtle political messages throughout in the film just like they had in the first film.  Some of the elements were pretty deep.

I LOVEEEDD seeing my boo Michael B. Jordan back onscreen again!😍😍 I had a feeling they were going to add him in the movie as a cameo in SOME way, so it was nice seeing him onscreen again. I STILL think they killed him off too soon in the first movie imo.   

CONS:

I think my MAIN “con” with this film was that I almost felt like it didn’t really focus on the Wakandans as much as I would have liked.  While I’m glad that they gave the villain Namor a back-story, and explained his reason for why he felt the way he did, I almost felt like they spent just a TAD bit too much time on the blue underwater creatures too soon/early in the film, and all throughout.  Idk… maybe it’s just me.

I felt like the film was missing the same “Magic” that the first film had, but I think that had more to do with the fact that the film didn’t really seem to focus on “US” (black people) as much as the first film did.  I don’t think it had much to do with Chadwick’s passing as it had more to do with where the focus was in the film.  At one point I was like, “Are we watching Black Panther? Or Aquaman??”  ROTFL

I didn’t like how the film made the Wakandans look weak and helpless in so many scenes.  Granted, you don’t want a perfect character or country because that’s just as equally annoying at times.  But I felt that there were so many instances that the Wakandans were made to look weak, and I think that part of the reason why the first movie worked so well was that it FINALLY showed black people (Africans) in a state of POWER, and not weakness.  Idk…just a minor gripe.

My other MAIN gripe was that they KILLED Queen Ramonda!!! I was like, NOOOO!!!! ☹  They did NOT have to kill our Queen like that!  Smh! I was really mad at that decision tbh.  I know they wanted Shuri to have a really HUGE reason to harvest her rage, but they did NOT have to do it like that!

Lawwwddd….why did I get the feeling that M’Baku was gonna propose marriage to Shuri in the forest?? ROTFL!  I was like: “Whaaaaaaa???” 

Omg was I the ONLY one who literally GASPED in the theater when Nakia brought out T’Challa Jr.?? LOL!  I literally sat up in my seat and yelled out: “NO WAAAAY!!!!” 

Did anyone else get the feeling that Namor was kinda feeling Shuri? But then again, I kinda got the feeling that Riri had a crush on Shuri too lol 🤣

What was up with all of the bald-headed/ashy jokes towards Okoye?? I don’t know if I liked that too much.

Omg the little actor boy they chose to be Nakia and T'Challa's son was sooo cuuute!! 😊 He looked like he could have really been their child! Lol

Nearly every scene in this movie was artistic as fuuuuuuck. Fuggin gorgeously crafted horror film. Loved ALMOST all of it. But there is an exception. The final "racist white cop" scene was so forced it was almost funny. Lol OK, it actually WAS funny, now that I think back on it. I mean, really? Lmao... Oh, man... that was some ridiculous bullshit, right there. So painfully "trending". I was a little annoyed with the "white people are racist" narrative at the start but was willing to let that slide because it took place in the 70s. But the scene near the end... lofl Fucking asinine. Other than that? Super dope. Loved it, recommend it, and hope he (jordan peele) does more. And Loved the little cameo at the end. Really cool shit. 7/10 on #primevideo. Check it out.

What do you think it was that got Vanessa and Zac to agree to cameo/guest on s4?! Something in the script? Something in this season?? Cuz that's crazy; they're pretty huge stars! The cameos from s1 were cute, but neither of those actors' cameos were significant to the overall plot. No one cameo'ed in s2, right? Except for Jordan Fisher (also amazing that they got him). S3 had Corbin and Jesse Tyler Fergusen (!!!). And now s4 Zac and Vanessa plus others possibly?! That's wild to me that a little mickey mouse show was able to do that! No other Disney shows have had cameos like this. What black magic is Tim using bts. (Lol my personal headcanon is that Rina script parallels to Troyellq made them come back for that story. I mean hell. Didnt Corbin agree partly bc he wanted to work with Sof?)

I would assume that they would have been pitched the idea and liked it :)

Maybe Corbin Bleu being in a large part of s3 helped as well as it sort of laid the ground work for them to come play themselves.

Yea I wonder how that feels tho; making the journey, warming up and nervously waiting to be called upon and then getting sent on to touch a few blades of grass... must be v different from a player like Lydia who pretty much knows she isn't playing unless an accident happens to Manu. I've played football for a long time but strangely haven't gotten to experience this yet 🤔

Anyway the annoying thing was that not only did he send Jordan on so late but he could've used one more sub (since the max limit is 5 per game) and still done that pointless "cameo" sub at the end 🤦‍♀️

Out of the school of secrets books which was your favorite? Or what was the best part of each one?

What an excellent question, Anon! ♥ The undefeated champion of my HEART is Carlos’s Scavenger Hunt. This little side book made me cry not once but twice, which I consider a literary accomplishment. If you love Carlos, this book is a MUST. If you love the Carvie dynamic (whether platonic or romantic), even more so! Jane is present for most of their interactions and the book definitely pushes Janelos, but actually it’s pretty cute and Jane has some great moments.

Oh, there’s even a really sweet scene between Carlos and Fairy Godmother, which I found to be surprisingly touching since I don’t like F.G. at all in the other books or movies. Anyway, I give this book 100/10. The plot is fun and interesting and all the focus on Carlos is like water in the desert for this franchise lol.

One thing I DIDN’T like (mild spoilers): there’s some bullshit at the beginning where a bunch of AKs, plus Mal, Jay, and Evie, are teasing Carlos about being a “sidekick,” never the hero and I just... *takes up a sword* :)))) I don’t feel like that’s good canon characterization of anyone considering what the Core Four went through in the Dragon’s Eye Quest, but either way. Really annoyed me. >>

My second favourite is Freddie’s Shadow Cards! I absolutely adore Freddie and I really enjoyed the dynamics between her, Jordan, and Ally. The plot is entertaining, has a lot of humorous moments, and as an added bonus, there’s some peak scenes with Carlos. I literally didn’t know how much I needed Freddie & Carlos to be a thing until I read this book. They’re so cute? I know they’ll never get any real attention as friends in this fandom, but by god, let it be known their dynamic is adorable and valid af.

Warnings for this one: if you like Audrey, you’re going to find her character in this book very similar in tone to D1, so be warned. She’s not Freddie’s biggest fan, suffice to say. Also, not to give any spoilers, but I didn’t like how they dealt with the whole “shadow cards” thing (for multiple reasons, but I don’t have 5 hours to rant so I’ll leave it at that lol), andddd I would caution you to brace for the whole “wise mystical black woman” trope when they get to the bayou.

If those warnings put you off, totally understandable! If you still want to read it but you don’t want to put money down due to the issues, I... may know a place where you can acquire the Sacred Texts without supporting the Mouse Empire (and without DLing anything, so it’s safe). Let me know if you want directions. ;)

Third favourite (not far from tying with the second) is Lonnie’s Warrior Sword! Want more Lonnie? You got it. More Jay? Hell yeah. Platonic Jonnie? We got that, too. Throw in some Jordan to make it a trio! The plot centres on one of those obstacle course TV shows, so it’s very focused on sports and competition. It’s pretty entertaining and reveals a slimy underbelly where some of Auradon’s citizens crawl (we all knew they weren’t perfect, but here’s proof).

There’s a little Mulan cameo at the start, which is nice! Jay’s characterization kind of annoys me at times, but no more so than it does at points in D1 where he’s reduced to being the “arrogant and aggressive straight boy.” There’s several points where Lonnie emphasizes how arrogant Jay is and I’m just kinda side-eyeing her like, “Girl, have you met yourself?” Pot, meet kettle lmao.

Jordan has this... kinda weird arc where the dialogue is a bit misleading about her feelings toward the VKs. I was squinting at that through most of the book until the ending cleared some things up for me. It’s not a huge thing, but I still feel kinda judgy about that element of the plot. *shrug emoji*

I think that just leaves C.J. and Ally’s books which I haven’t read yet. I expect I’ll enjoy them, but very much doubt they’ll surpass these three. I’m very biased toward stories that prioritize my faves, though, obviously. ;)

Anyway, TL;DR: Best part of Carlos’ book is EVERYTHING (okay, I lied, the best part is this scene when he helps a little lost boy at the train station which ABSOLUTELY MELTED MY HEART like a goddamn marshmallow). Best part of Freddie’s book is FREDDIE AND CARLOS BEING FRIENDS. Carlos dislocates his shoulder in a tourney game (indirectly Freddie’s fault) and she goes to visit him in the infirmary and it’s SO cute. Best part of Lonnie’s book is Jay coaching Lonnie for her competition and them having several adorable canon BFF moments. Jay gets so mad on her behalf when people underestimate her or try to sabotage her and it’s really sweet. I love their friendship. ♥

Galaxy Con Experience Pt 1

It’s pretty brave of me to try to do online cons when my internet is such shit, but it makes for some amazing experiences.  Part 1 here will be my private chats with Tasya and Chelsey!  Part 2 is going to be information from the livestream panel with Chelsey, Tasya, Zach, Jordan, and Sara!

Live Chat with Tasya Teles:

So with my shit internet, I kept disconnecting but Tasya was such an angel and just added more time at the end so instead of the four minutes I paid for, I got more like five minutes or so.  She remembered me as the teacher from Nunavut once again and when she realized she (and the rest of the world) had been saying Nunavut wrong, she promised to tell everyone she knew how to properly say it.  We also discussed the weather in Nunavut, because lol important conversation.  She was wearing a gorgeous yellow dress and her hair my god looked amazing and I got very bold and told her she looked amazing and then she complimented me and I melted.

Then I asked her about the fistbumps between Octavia and Echo/Diyoza in 708 - she confirmed they were 100% improvised in the moment and she likes them.  I told her I was loving this season so far, and Echo’s story, and she was so glad.  Finally in between being disconnected I asked her how it felt to be leading the charge this season with an expanded role, and she said it was great, to have such amazing material to work with.  She really hopes we like what’s to come.

We ended it off with a virtual hug and plenty of love shared between the two of us.  I’m getting a personalized autographed photo from her too and I’m excited to see what she writes on it.

So when I originally paid for this, I paid for a two minute session, but then it turned out Chelsey apparently decided that the minimum time would be five minutes instead.  And then, with all of the disconnects thanks to my shit internet, my time with her turned out to be more like 10 minutes because she just kept adding more and more time, and even at the end she was like “I NEED TO SAY ONE MORE THING SO I”M GONNA ADD MOAR TIME”

I’m not going to share what we discussed because it was more of a private chat, but all I will say is that Chelsey is literally an angel sent to earth.  She is SO engaging and so friendly and like... when the session started she was like “WHERE DO I KNOW YOU FROM?!?!” and I was like errrrr and she was like “NO I KNOW YOUR NAME WE MUST CHAT ONLINE OR SOMETHING” and I was like “well you recorded a cameo for my sister once that i ordered, my sister the--” and then she cut me off with “YOUR SISTER THE NURSE I REMEMBER NOW”.

Like.

Wow.

So yeah.  Chelsey was amazing.
